Mounts mean the game is borrowing from WoW? I played an MMO prior to WoW that had mounts: Ultima Online. Maybe Blizzard has a time machine. :P

Of course they have .. i mean .. even Tolkien has covert the Orcs from Blizzard and yes
Blizzard first created humans .. after that GOD has stolen them ^^

I used to see this response alot when requests came up for things like raids, tanks, healers, mounts etc. All of those things are in the game now despite the strong protest of these apparent WoW haters.

So I guess we can go back to asking for anything now, and just ignore the naysayers. What’s next? Capes? Built in open world voice channels?

Edit: Before you start your rant, allow me to clarify that I in no way think any of these changes make GW2 a WoW clone. I was simply stating that it was the response I always saw from people that were against these changes. I was simply interested in what other changes, that were previously deemed impossible/unlikely, people would like to see put in the game now.

I’m personally rooting for in-game voice coms.

My bet goes for duelz and open-pvp .. that were things that were often requested and
like mounts everybody thought it will never come

What makes something an Outfit vs a Skin?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Skins wer what we had the first 1.5 years .. but people complained that new skins
only were available in the gem-store and not ingame .. then ANet took the chance
and started to produce those boring outfits for the gem-store .. and the new skins
we got ingame since then .. there were Carapace .. and i guess that was the only
nice skin they released since then.

If everything is true what they tell us .. i guess they already started to develop the
game 1960 .. because of the time it took to create all the skins that were in the
original game .. lol.

Quarterly reports Q4 2016

Beldin.5498

Afther the thread looking at GW2 results over a longer period ( https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/gw2/Having-a-look-at-GW2-long-term-results/first that is now closed so save to link), I did want to have a look at the results for Q4 2016 and Q1 of 2017.

In that thread some people though it was too much of an ‘I told you so’ statement, well sadly this time I have to say ‘I was wrong’.

The results of Q4 did just get released, you can find them here: http://global.ncsoft.com/global/ir/prfile.aspx?ID=9DE70054-C1F4-43C2-842B-8A228757B8D6
I expected Q4 to go up with it being Q4, shorter days, more vacation, Halloween, Wintersday and a lot of the season 3 release. Sadly I was wrong, Q4 2016 had even lower results the the two before.

At least the ‘It’s because the lack of content’ argument as reason for lower results can now be completely shredded.

It’s really sad because the core of the game is really good.

Other than the ‘problem’ that the game has, there is an addition problem now, its how do you get the people back.

For example, the upcoming patch is really something we should have had much sooner, simply because of the location of the map, that is something that interests people. But those that left will not be likely to come back to see it at this point.

I always did think that HoT and the first half year after it was basically when Anet had to solve the problem because even if they fixed it now, people are just not here / coming back to see it. The only way I could see many people coming back if is the next expansion would be marketed as GW3 but that would be really bad if the next expansion is nothing like a GW3.

Edit: Clarification about the ‘lack of content, shredder’ comment in my first post\/.

I guess the main reason why i will mostly never come back is that it seems in all
new content i have to use those gliding stuff and that means i first am forced to
grind in HoT .. and i simply don’t want to go there.

Oh .. and still no new armor sets .. just boring outfits.

New Sets of Cultural armor All Races

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Beldin.5498

Beldin.5498

Practically everyone would like to see new armor sets. Currently, ANet says it takes them 8-9 months to release a full set of armor that’s similar across races, so we’d have to assume 12+ months for armor that’s distinct for each race. The community is already impatient at the pace of new armors; I can imagine we’d put up with additional delays.

Yeah .. thats why they started to develop the game 1960 already because else they
could have never provided us all the armor sets that were in the game at release
and those we got in the first year after relase.

Why does Lege armor have to be tied to Raids?

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

Posted by: Beldin.5498

Beldin.5498

It’s also an incentive for players to do the raid. It makes it something special and people know you did the raid, separating them from those who don’t do it. And that’s just a fracture. Expect a lot less legendary armor wearers than weapon or backpack wearers.

Or an incentive to simply leave the game when the main reason to play GW2 was that
you hated raids and GW2 was a game without raids and nothing was gated by them.

But glad to see that they managed to bring out a preview from 1 of 3 armor sets
only 1 year after release of HoT ..

Really sad to see that a once skin based game now hasn’t released any good armor sets
since over 2 years.

GW2 Sales 2Q16: a new All Time Low

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Beldin.5498

The biggest thing is normal traffic patterns. You can see it in WoW for years. The ycome out with an expansion, get a huge boost in population for 6 months or so, and then subscriptions plummet. It happens all the time.

In WoW it’s people not subscribing. Here, it’s people not playing and not buying stuff in the cash shop.

Heart of Thorns came out 9 months ago. During those 9 months we mostly have PvP and Raids as updates. Who would have not expected sales to drop?

There’s just no evidence HoT is the reason for the drop.

There is empirical data showing that the game is in the worst financial shape in it’s existence less than a year after HoT. This is fact, we like facts.

HoT and FREE TO PLAY! Did not in any way increase revenue for Anet or their parent company NCSoft. The game made less Q2 2016 than at any point since launch.

Had the game continued to run LS S1 style instead of a box would it have done better financially? There is no way to know for sure, but what is known, what can be proven is that the expansion has left the game less profitable than it was before.

Opinions are great and some of you have made it a life’s mission to attempt to counter me and people similar to my thoughts on the state of the game over the years. These numbers show quite clearly that the game is in trouble.

At least i would mostly still play it if it had continued in the LS1 style.
Oh and beside all the hate i also liked when we had actually new ARMOR-SETS in
the gemstore instead of costumes.

So in the end the game started to go downhill after 1.5 years for me, more and
more big breaks between new content updates and the wardrobe was great, but
at the same time they (more or less) canceled new armor sets.

I really thought they maybe spare off all those armorsets to release them with
HoT, so we maybe get 30+ new sets … but no .. beside all the other bad things
there were only what .. 3-4 (imho ugly) new sets that all were buried behind a big grind.

Participating in the CDI or the recent polls is like voting. If you choose not to let your voice be heard, then you really can’t complain about the changes they made because of it.

Believe me .. i have complained enough against raids and “challenging content”,
i even had a stalker long time from Brazils old hardcore guild.

And even ANet knew that forum posters were a small minority, the german CM
once posted that only 8% read the forums and only 2% (i think) post.

And i also think that the same rules that a CM from Turbine posted, are viable
for more or less all MMOs, that the hardcore players are very well overrepresented
in that small minority that post in forums.

GW2 Sales 2Q16: a new All Time Low

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Let me guess, you are one of the people who expected GW2 to be just like GW but bigger. Same degree of complexity around traits and professions. Same new expansion every year that was as big as the original game. No cash shop except of things like character slots. And because it’s not you have been rallying against GW2 since launch.

Am I close?

I thought that vanilla GW2 was great and did not play GW1.
What I want is some sort of response from the community in regards to what Anet did.

While I no longer play this game, it would be soul crushing to know that completely changing your direction mid an MMO, not delivering on the promises and abandoning parts of the game would be met with a revenue increase.

For the sake of all of you guys playing, I do not want the game to die, even though it no longer will have me as a customer, however I want Anet to realize that going back on their promises is wrong and that they should choose a stable direction for a game that is now all over the place (no matter it is casual or hardcore).

I think that that is what a lot of ex players are seeking here with venting their frustrations out. They want the company to learn and be better at maintaining the game and delivering more content. They do not like the fact that Anet’s response to a fall in revenue is to release the next expansion faster, because that might mean that they will put even less work into it.
This isn’t Wildstar. I don’t think that we’re here to go “oh yes, the game is dying, die faster Guild Wars 2!”, but rather to show that we’re angry and upset with the current mismanagement.

+1 to that … and i’m more or less at the point where i think that i will never play
this game again .. its just to messed up from what it was when i loved it and they
can hardly revert all the damage that was done by HoT

I think the worst part of raids was just that they gated legendary armor behind them.

The whole discussion about raids was like always that first the raiders said : Noooo we
don’t want exclusive stuff .. just the challenge .. blabla .. and then in the raid-thread
each second or third post was about exclusive rewards.

In Marvel Heroes they stated a while ago that only a very small part (2%) of the players
have ever used the raids and then decided to make every raid only item craftable for
other players. So people can earn some stuff maybe faster in raids, but players who
don’t like raids can over time also get all the goodies.

The game is a mess. The game is a pure mess. Promises thrown out of the door, balance kittened, complete difference in direction… It can not go anywhere good. You know what?

Yeah .. i meanwhile also don’t see any chance to return tp the game in any form.
Even if they make a Jormag Expansion with mostly plain maps like the old Shiverpeaks
maps and bring back real costume sets .. i guess i still have to level all those HoT
Masteries, and i will never ever fo that, also will i never ever get all those Mastery Points
i still miss for Tyria Masteries ..

And yes .. i’m also bitter cause i loved the game how it was, especially the first 1.5 years
where we had new stuff every 2 weeks, and new armor sets every month .. and then
they removed the armorsets and pauses between updates got longer and longer
and HoT finally killed it.

ANet didn’t need to make an expansion, and actually started losing revenue when they did, and never started making more after they released one.

It’s not that. Making an expansion was definitely a good move. It’s just the execution part where they failed. They designed this expac based on the suggestions of vocal minorities, and ended up forgetting about their core player group.

I still wonder if ANet devs don’t live in this world, since i just can’t understand why
they seem to believe that the vocal minority in the forums are the same persons
that pay for the game. Did they really believe that 1 hardcore raider spends 10 times
more in the shop than a casual game ? I don’t get it.

On the other hand .. maybe they don’t even exist at all, since in the game i play
now the devs are actually posting in the forum .. telling us what is planed, saying
that they know about bugs and fixing them, or are even just joking.

Meanwhile here .. does John Smith even still live ?

Revenue dipped significantly below what it was pre-HoT… that’s not good. Looks like HoT actually did drive away a large portion of players.

I doubt HoT drove people away, more likely the content drought post HoT caused that.

HoT at least drove me away, and nothing since then brought me back. And another
half finished expansion also will not bring me back.

But hey .. in the end i guess ANet knows that all those number don’t count because
each raider counts for 10 players.

For me the first 1.5 years were the best time in the game, when we had updates

just to get some stupid mastery points.

The same with having no new armor sets at all than having them in the gem-shop.

Good job community .. destroying the game with your complaints.

In the end the dying of the game started after LS1 when we got the wardrobe, after

My wishlist for the next expansion is.. oh, let’s see.. no, nothing.
I fully expect the next expansion to contain 1 completely new fractal, a promise to reinstate the legendary team (don’t worry, they’ll never keep it), a complete remake of the trait system and scrapping of the mastery system (after all they did state that they intended to add to it, ie a clear death sentence). Oh right, and more glider skins!

Here’s a suggestion to management, flood NCSoft with requests to support this game before it tumbles into obscurity! Get PvE content out now!!!!! before the largest percentile of your player base leaves. Another one, stop throwing development time into things like Raids, and pointless forms of content that have no bloody reason to be in GW2 in the first place.

Raids are great .. all the game needs are even more raids aka “challenging group
content” and when finally all those casuals like me left the game they can prove me
and all those naysayers wrong that not only a minority raids.
Heck and if only 6 people of DnT are left and raid, then they have 100 % raiders.
Now wouldn’t that be a great success ??

Good think is, in the game i play now the developers really talk to us in the forums.
Its unbelieveable .. after a patch when people post a bug, they answer and say they

In Marvel Heroes a Dev just posted that only 2% of the playerbase ever touches
their raids, and that they will not create any more raids, and instead think about
to bring out solo versions of the old raid instances so that all players will be able
to have a look on that content.

But hey .. ANet always did quite the opposite then everybody else, and when other
games cancel raids they suddenly think its a good idea to go all for raids, while NOT
having them in the beginning was something that attracted quite alot of players.

Or maybe NCSoft just told them : hey .. Wildstar is such a big success .. do what they

From my pov it started sying short after the end of LS1 when we got the wardrobe.
After that they stopped giving us new armorsets, which are imho very important
for this game, and they started with longer and longer breaks between new content.

But there was still a lot to farm to get all the old shines from the classic game and
i hoped they spared up all the new armorsets for HoT and then we would get at
least 20-30 new sets.

But all we got was grind to unlock even more grind. I finally left when i saw at
wintersday how they buried these new shoulders not even behind an abnormus
grind but also behind jumping puzzles.

In the game i changed to we got all kinds of nice stuff on wintersday for free, and
at the moment we have 1 month of events for 3th birthday and we get masses
of loot and stuff.

I must say, i don’t think i will ever return playing this game, as long as they don’t
change their mind that armorsets are just too much work, and continue with
outfits and gliders.

Oh when i logged in just for the daily reward last time i saw our guild is down

How to fix GW2s end game problem...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Beldin.5498

Beldin.5498

GW2 lacks incentive for players at endgame, but not for any of the reasons you’ve mentioned. The level-scaling is more of a structural, design necessity than a tack-on. You see, it makes the gameplay experience consistent throughout regardless of level, which makes it easier for high level players to integrate into lower-level maps, do events, and essentially create this “living world” vibe that Anet has worked to create.

The real issues with GW2 endgame:

-Lack of any semblance of role structure so PvE combat boils down to stack and zerg.
-Elite specialization bloats options without actually adding any depth to combat.
-Limited weapon skills and pigeon-holed-best trait builds means nearly 0 variety.
-There is a gear treadmill, but the main content of the game doesn’t necessitate it.
-Gearing up alts with legendary / ascended gear is not very feasible = low replay-ability.
-Outside of WvW, engaging group (10+) content BARELY exists and the low depth of the combat system due to lack of defined roles does not support the gameplay, making the experience very cheap and not very fulfilling.
-A lot of gear, items, and development time is put into the cash shop rather than real endgame content. The mastery system is one of the biggest jokes I have ever seen in an MMO game.

*-Endgame content is basically grinding for aesthetics in what essentially boils down to a very pretty, but vapid gameplay experience. *

Problem is that they even abandoned that part when they decided to bring out no
more new armor sets 2 years ago and instead only bring out boring outfits.

Guild quit the game, HoT is stale?

IMO : Anet tried to destroy the solo (casual) player but it backfired on them and everyone walked away. You can’t please everyone all the time but you can’t design your game for only one playstyle and expect everyone to like it.
Vertical maps seem like they have a lot of depth, but create unneeded confusion and frustration. To push this game further Anet needs to put the Fun back into the game.

But hey .. for that they now have got billions of new raiders i guess .. so the game
will no be even more successful than Wildstar ..

Personally i’m still happy in MH .. and there now even all raid items are craftable
but we know ANet does always the reverse of most other games .. so when raids
were popular they went without .. no where more an more brains get it that
raids are stuff fro a small minoroty they invent them.

The same how they invented the fractals stuff when Lotro finally removed “Strahlen”
(sorry forgot the english word for it)

They have already abandoned the whole wardrobe thing more or less thanks
to complaints about armor sets in the gemstore .. complain more and next
they also abandon weapon skins and we get outfits combined with weapons .. lol.

Next Expansion. New Legendaries. Yes or No?

That would actually be a kick in the balls of everyone who bought HoT for the legendaries. Therfore I say it will happen.^^

I guess also they will sell those Legendarys now forever .. in every expansion that
will see the light of the world .. THIS expansion will now really bring you all the
missing legendarys .. oh no, not this time .. but the next will bring them really,
but maybe not at release .. but at least when the next expansion is released ^^

I can imagine MO, grininng from ear to erar, bring the news:
“Ok, we did not manage to bring them all to you this time, but we have made a nice legendary spear for you! Be grateful!”
^^

And ofc its raid exclusive .. if it ever really will be released .. normal folks don’t
need legendarys .. only true players do.

Oh .. and we deleted all other legendary from players that have never beaten
Raid tier 26 .. they simply were not worthy to keep them ^^

A lot of moustache twirling is included while writing down those patch notes

Something that could potentially see re-use, like I don’t know, maybe game mechanics, monster AI, animation rigs etc.

Oh yeah .. i have a vision of new “challenging” content with new mechanics,
instead of perma-stunlock and pushing you to the ground, mobs now learn
to play Badminton with players. Flying through the air until your dead each
time you meet a mob .. wouldn’t that be great challenging fun ?

Little things that hold GW2 back

I have to laugh every time I hear someone complain about graphical issues with armor.

Sometimes i lookes 2-3 minutes at postet pictures and still don’t even get what
problems those people see there.

And then there are people that think ANet should let us mix and match even
different weight classes because people don’t care about clipping problems.

Was the same in Champions Online where we had some restrictions of mixing
specific stuff, and a lot of people always wanted rather to have them removed
so that they could decide themself if they could live with some clipping errors
or not.
But ofc other think its better to restrict everything that is not perfect .. thats
why we can’t have nice things.

GLITCHING ARMOR/OUTFITS: Stop being lazy and fix the models or simply dont put them in the game at all..

reasons we now only get stupid outfits instead of armor sets. Good work.

Last time i had an NVidia card was when Age of Conan was released, i had so many
bluescreens at that time, and had to go back from 173.xx to 164.xx driver ..
and years before when Diablo 2 was in beta i already had massive problems with
NVidia drivers unter NT4 and switched to 3Dfx at that time ^^

So NVidia has a looooong history with bad drivers and thats why i stick to
ATI / AMD GPUs since years.
