It literally makes my head hurt watching them throw money on the ground like this. Fortunately after seeing that their “lets hide 9 suits of armor behind zone-wide event omega-grinds” scheme pretty much blew up in their faces, they might finally dump the “armor ONLY comes from in-game activities” as the steaming skritt droppings decision that it is.
But hey … thats what the “community” wanted .. the same like they wanted raids
better a “real” expansion full of “challenging content” where they have to pay for
instead of biweekly LS updates for free.In the end the biggest problem of GW2 is that ANet started to listen to some
folks in the forums instead of following their own initial vision of the game.Oh and i will never understand why some people thought it would be better
to grind 10 times longer to get an armor set instead of farming the gold you
need to buy it from the shop in so much shorter time.Probably the people asking for ingame armor didn’t realize that it would be put behind such high barriers, including RNG barriers. They knew that the armor already ingame could be reliably gotten by doing dungeons to get tokens, crafting, buying from karma vendors or from the Trading post. I doubt anyone who was asking for ingame armor was expecting it to be behind Living story achieves or RNG drops only from doing events.
Its the old problem that people don’t use their brain … for me it was crystal clear
that the grind would take more time than farming the gold … the same with the
precurser hunting stuff.
At least i’m happy that i could never brought my self to do all those unfunny
Tyria Mastery Points to unlock the Legendary Journey stuff.
Also its the same that whenever people want “moar challenge” they also want
“exclusive” stuff that the majority doesn’t get .. and moar challenge in the end
is mobs with more hitpoints, more damage … and maybe more CC so that you
are disabled half of the fight, constantly one-shotted and fights just take
loooonger.
Really .. everybody who played some more MMOs should know how the answer
to most complains look .. and that in the end its mostly far worse thanwhat you
expected .. and even worse than it was before.
And thats simply the reason why i always was against “moar challenge”, raids,
“real” expansions .. and whatever else.

Woo boy this argument is getting old. Not to mention stale. Pretty soon, its going to end up like mounts with just one giant merged thread.
Mounts were never ingame .. armor-sets and optical stuff was more or less the so
called endgame of GW2 .. and now its simply gear grind but without even getting
better stats .. just other stat distribution .. and that is just soooo boring.

“Player input” is what got us expansions, which is why we no longer have lots of monthly free content.
Ever hear the expression “don’t buy the cow if you can get the milk for free”? We were getting the milk for free and many of our fellow players complained long and hard about how they would rather pay for it because that somehow makes it better. Now we get less milk AND have to pay for it.
Player input is the last thing we need more of…
People were tired of tiny bites of content that was, at best, mediocre, and wanted a massive chunk of real content. Something on the scope and scale of Factions or Nightfall (not technically expansions, but functionally they were for most people), with all the trimmings. Don’t blame the players for Anet being unwilling or unable to provide that.
So something on the scale of ANOTHER GAME cause that’s what Factions and Nightfall were and were sold as such.
If you look at the price of HoT .. yeah .. in some way i more or less expected
something like a new game .. at least i expected to get masses of new armor sets
that they all hold back in the last 1.5 year just to give them us now with HoT.

Wouldn’t fit into the game. If you don’t dislike hack’n’slay .. try Marvel Heroes,
i’m really happy there since nearly 4 months now ^^
And yes … i rather buy one-piece outfits there than here .. here i want armor sets
that i can mix and match.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
How is it 10 times the work?
People are saying they don’t care about clipping issues. They don’t care that it might not match perfectly with some random obscure piece of gear. Just add a warning that it might not look good when mixed with other sets, split the outfit into different pieces to make a skin set, then copy paste for the 3 weights—they don’t need to be different between light/med/heavy—and there you go. Demands have been met.
They said in previous posts (in the reddit thread AMA) that armor was among the most difficult items to design and that they were 10 times the work of making an outfit.
However .. before people complained we got 1 new armor set for each weight
more or less ever month in the gemstore for 800 gems. And GW2 was never
a gear grinding game .. more grinding for optical stuff.
But what have we now .. nearly no new armor sets since 2 years ..instead we get
now ascended stuff with different stats to grind for .. in that case i really prefer
to grind for gear with better stats in other games.

I still think that network traffic is one of the main problems .. the more player that
are involved in a fight the traffic grows exponential .. and it simply would be a
problem to send players already new frames when they don’t have the updated
data of the hitpoints of enemies. Ok .. you can do it .. but that would lead to
other complains.

I totally agree with you on that 1. There was a time when I actually enjoyed this game and had lots of fun things to do but apparently too many people were complaining about things and EVERYTHING got changed in a way that made it no longer fun and some things even got completely removed. Now I pretty much have nothing left to do but the dailys which aren’t really fun but I feel like I must do them.
Yeah .. in the end it all changed to the bad because of constant complaints
Beside LS1 and armorsets its also the whole change from “play like you want”
to now “play what we tell you to play” .. and thats mostly because people complained
about missing “endgame” and that they want to “earn” their rewards.
Heck i rather farmed the gold for 10 armor sets in the gemstore than doing all
those kitten LS2 achievements for the luminous armor.
Or Tyria mastery points .. if i ever wanted to make a new legendary (lol) i first
have to unlock all the mastery points for that, and thats mostly all stuff that is
absolutely no fun for me .. so in the end i’m happy they canceled the new legendarys.
And don’t let me start about raids.
Oh .. and where is my stalker btw. that always jumped on me whenever i said
something against raids .. haven’t him seen for a long time .. didn’t made the
raids him stay in game ?

First people cried that temporary content was bad .. then we got LS2 with much
less updates than LS1.
Then people cried they prefer to have a “real expansion” instead of LS .. and thats
where we are now.
Anet now already works on the next “real expansion” and has not even enough
people to finish the first one .. but hey .. the “community” wanted it.
The same like the “community” was permanently complaining about armorsets
in the BLTP .. hey now we get nearly no armorsets at all anymore .. but the
“community” wanted it.
So .. say big thanks to the GW2 community.
Personally for me the best time in the game was when we had LS1 with new
updates every 2 weeks .. and new armorsets every month in the gemstore,
after that it went just downhill to grinding gold to buy everything i wanted
and no there isn’t even anything i can buy with my gold.

the fun that will never be in game ?

Totally agree … its also my opinion they should just give us the new skins just
the way the old legendarys worked.
Precursor crafting came about from a legitimate desire in the fanbase..
Yeah .. but they expected to get them a lot cheaper then .. and not have the work
for the quest and then still a big goldsink for the mats. And thats why the actual
system is total BS.

Yeah…I log in and farm CS or do dailies…though I have nothing I’m working toward. I’m not rich compared to TP flippers and those who run SW chests for hours…but I have enough gold…just…not sure what to do with it. I dunno maybe I’ll make some Ascended heavy gear for my Guardian.
I log in and harvest a rich platinum node while getting my daily login bonus.
I wonder when i finally will also stop with that.

Very poor video, he total misses the points why people are upset, and he is pulling numbers out of his kitten , he even says that he doesn’t have figures.
Agreed. Actually wanted to dislike the video, but apparently he hid behind a safe wall.
Actually I think he made a valid point. Anet knows how many players by percentage have even 1 legendary. They know how many have 2.
If they create 16 legendary journeys, what they’re doing is creating content that most people will never do. It’s not really like a dynamic event or even a dungeon or fractal. It’s a long term goal that many people either can’t reach or can’t be bothered going for.
Saying that he doesn’t have numbers is quite irrelevant because Anet does have those numbers and they made the decision.
Maybe they should have made the journey more of a journey and less of a
material / gold grind .. since that was what a lot people expected i think.
So yeah .. they wanted to do quests instead of pay 1000g or whatever, but
what they got is do the quests and pay still 999g .. lolDid you do some of the collections for the elite spec ascended weapons? Man, I hoped the precursor journeys would have been like them. I have completed 6 out of 9 and enjoyed them a lot.
The problem with legendary weapons started with them a) being tradeable and b) them requiring an also tradeable precursor, being an extremely rare drop. To outweigh the pain of acquiring one they decided then to do an overly complex, time and material consuming alternative way of getting a precursor to “keep the effort high”. I don’t like that “economical balance” reasoning at all. Why did they need to make such complex collections, which turn out to be expensive to implement and unnecessarily error prone?
I only did the collections i could finished without having to enter HoT areas, so
that was mostly something for my Dragonhunter that i finished on my Warrior
and yay .. it was soulbound.
I liked it that Legendarys were tradeable since i dislike dungeons and PvP and
so mostly prefered to farm the gold and buy the legendary. That was one of
the reason i liked this game .. you were not forced to play contend you disliked
and could still get most stuff.
So one of many reasons i left was, i have 8000 Gold and 10.000 gems or whatever
and there is nothing to buy .. no legendarys .. no Armor Sets in the gemstore.
Oh yeah .. and armor sets in the gem store were of course also a problem, right ?
Thats why now we only get outfits .. and maybe 1 armorset ingame per year,
great stuff.

The only part I agree on is that from a management position it was probably a logical choice, not because of how many ppl that make a legendary tho, but more because apparently it takes 5 months for a single legendary. This precursor scavenger hunt was probably one of their worst mistakes with GW2.
Don’t we have those quests for all old Legendarys ? So if one quest needs 5 month
they must have started 3 years before release of HoT with them.
Oh and if that team of 6 needs 5 months for one scavanger hunt, how many
content will they be able to bring into the living world ? 1 episode every 6 months ?

What happened was the fan base wasn’t happy with the living story so we switched to an expansion model and the expansion didn’t do well. That’s what happened. If the expansion had done better, we wouldn’t be having this conversation.
Not going against this at all. It just sucks, and im venting and apologize. Youve been around these boards a long time yourself and youve seen every type of post there is and I know none of this shocks you lol, but still, im just so annoyed. I planned, and still plan, on playing gw2 until the servers shut down or gw3 comes out… but at this point I may not make it to fall
I feel like venting too, you’re not alone. But what I’m venting about is different from what you’re venting about. The only way this game moves forward, in my opinion, if it returns to the type of product it offered early on. And even that might be too late, because so many have become disenfranchised.
But I’ve looked at other MMOs and none of them really do it for me, so…what can you do. Even Everquest Next, which was the next big hope, has been cancelled. It’s just not easy to make and run an MMO. And we, as fans, have pretty high expectations.
I also looked too long for other standard MMOs .. in the end i am now found a
Hack’n’Slay MMO .. and as an old Diablo player i realized that maybe MMOs
with all those people crying for “challenging” content were never my kind of game.
Good thing in that other game is also that noone plays PvP, so nobody cries
all the time : wäääähhhhh .. Hero X is overpowerd .. nerf him .. its more that
the weaker ones now and then get and overhaul.
I mean .. in the end it was simply all the crying of the community here that
has ruined the game .. and of course ANet failure to listen to them.
I personally never wanted an expansion and i warned people often enough that
we then will go to the system of having every 2 year something to do for 1 month
and then wait 23 months for the next .. and that is more or less where we are now.
Oh .. and armor sets in the gem shop … never had a problem with that, especially
since we can exchange gold to gems .. but thanks to the cryers in the forums
armor sets are now more or less abandoned.
Oh and Legendary quests .. i was sure long before we got it that the whole stuff
will lead to something where the precursor in the end is not cheaper than buying
it from the TP .. at least not if you give the spent time a gold value. So in the end
i rather would have just the new Skins of the legendarys .. so abandon that
legendary “crafting” BS and make them available like the old ones again.
Oh and yes .. EQNext abandoned really sucks

It was a scam from the first hype and this game will never recover, quit kidding yourselves.
I spent nearly 4k hours in this game, truly entertained. I don’t know what you are talking about.
How many hours in HoT ? Personally i spent 7000 hours in game, but only 4-5 hours
in HoT … so thats why HoT was a scam .. and in the end it was only ok because i
played the game for free so long .. so paying 100€ for HoT was more or less a
present to ANet for the good days in GW2 before HoT.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
I’d like to understand the way things work better. I thought the five people working on raids wasn’t affecting Living Story… but apparently the six people working on a single shortbow can make all the difference?
If only 6 people are all that is needed to restart LS .. it makes a big difference if
those 6 people work on raids .. or on LS.
I have no clue what the rest is doing .. but it seems the core of ANet are these
2 6 man teams .. so its either raids, legendarys or LS.
But for me they should simply bring out the skins of the new legendary and
go back to the old system with dropped / forged precursors. The whole
precurser hunt made legendarys only more expensive than just buying one.
Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
As i’m sure everyone knows the devs who were working on our promised new legendary weapons have been removed to work on the LS since legendary weapons only affect a small number of players.
However I am not convinced that is actually true. Pretty much everyone I know in game has or is working towards a legendary weapon collection.
I have to wonder if this decision is actually based on reality or just weird developer bias.
I would love to see some number on how many separate accounts participate in the following in a given week:
1. Raids
2. Legendary weapon collections
3. sPvP
4. WvWI can’t imagine the numbers here are that far apart. I have a very hard time believing that more people raid than are working on a legendary weapon collection. Based on PvP wait times and the $200,000 prize pools for PvP I can’t imagine wasting devs on PvP is a good economic decision on time/money per active PvP account. WvW has been a barren dying wasteland for over a year now. I doubt they have many more active players than raids do.
It would seem to me that pulling devs from raids or PvP or WvW would all have been more sensible places since they seem to have a smaller population overall than the number of people who are working on legendary weapons.
6 work on raids, 6 on legendarys .. thats it .. ANet has only 12 content designer it seems
the rest is designing Iron Man armors for the gemshop

2. Open world is way way to easy! Its never a challenge to go form one place to another because anything we encounter we kill easily. Gw1 it was a challenge to travel from one place to another, and man was it fun a rewarding!
Yeah .. thats why everybody love HoT sooooo much .. and i guess in the nex expansion
there will be only raid mobs running around in the open world to make the game
even more fun for everyone.

But what really matters in the end is the income, did the LS2 bring more cash than LS1 or not? If it did, it means it’s successful right? Therefore, that’s how LS3 will be like.
I guess it will be some more boring buggy instances that you have to repeat
from the beginning every time something goes wrong .. but hey .. they are
repeatable, even if i hated it to do most of them even once.
Oh .. and don’t forget those nice inskippable cutscenes.

I really enjoyed your post Vayne. I come from a pencil and paper rpg background as well. While reading your post, I began to realize why I enjoyed season 1 living story so much more than season 2 living story. Season 1 was filled with exciting world events that changed the world. Season 2 seemed to be more about grinding AP points by repeating each story chapter ad nauseam.
I think i have not one single AP from those LS2 storys. I really liked LS1, that was what
you could call really a living changing world .. what changes had LS2 done ? So far
i can only think of some annyoing tendrils and 2 WPs that still haven’t fixed.
But in the end its fault of the players that were constantly crying how bad temp
content is ..and then we got LS2 .. and players complained they don’t want LS
anymore .. they want a “real” expansion and “challenging content” … and here we
are with HoT and nothing beside new Raids so far.
Oh .. and i say it the 1000th time .. also the lack of new armor-set was in the end
fault of the players, that complained constantly about that armor sets were only
in the gem-store. Oh and then ANet took the lazy way and said ok .. armor sets
only ingame now .. but they of course didn’t said that it means 1 set every year
instead of 1 ever 2-4 weeks.

you have to understand that HoT was more of a “large feature pack” instead of a “traditional” expansion where you get tons of new maps, more new dungeons, raids, gear, rewards, achievements and such.
they also kinda confessed this and they did say something like " we figured out what we want and how we wish to add new content in the future now. The features we added in HoT allow us to do so"
meaning the expansion No2. will indeed most likely be more filled with actuall content. more maps, more events, more raids, perhaps more dungeons or at least fractals, a new elite spec, more masteries and ..well. more of more
Those features behind the scenes should not cost content .. that is like they will
next update the engine to DX12 and sell that for 50 bucks as expansion 2 .. or
as if a new game comes out that only has one flat map with nothing than floor
because they firsted needed to make the engine so that the game will have
content in expac 2 and you have to pay for that.

Best MMOs are the ones that never make it. Therefore Stargate Online wins.
It also comes down to perceived value vs actual value. If you’ve spent 100hrs playing HoT content, and you went full-whammy on the expac, then you’ve spent $1/hr of play… way cheaper than most AAA titles or the theater. I feel that at that point the player has gotten their money’s worth, even if they’re no longer enjoying the content now; but that doesn’t seem to be the perception. I suspect that many of the people who’re complaining about HoT have played more than 100hrs… And, playing HoT content includes playing with elite specs (in all modes, not just in HoT maps), time spent gliding, exploring HoT maps, etc.
Those who spent only (for example) 10 hrs in HoT and then said, “kitten this kitten,” AND haven’t touched gliding, elite specs, or anything else since… then, yeah, I feel bad for ‘em. ANet can’t please everybody, but they are trying to please as many people as they can.

I will never raid. Ever.
And from what I’ve seen since HoT dropped, it looks like I will never get a new world content again until the next expansion 1+ years away.
Next expansion will only consist of 10 new raid wings. Why new world content ?
You know what the raiders always say .. you can still play the old content.

down to 164.xx to get rid of constant blue screens in Age of Conan.
And after all i read in forums over years that quite normal with their driver that
they bring out drivers that don’t work on some systems and then you can spend
days with testing different versions until you maybe find a stable one.
Or get an AMD card ^^

They more or less abandoned armor sets because they were too much work,
do you really think they will then ever bring a new race where they have to
rework all existing armor sets for ? Not to talk about races that would have
even more clipping problems than Charr ..
Just try to imagine how pants and shoes on centaurs would look .. or Hylek.

you don’t play Guild Wars 2 for Raids.
You might want to change that, “you,” to an, “I,” if you want to be honest and/or accurate. Perhaps you do not play GW2 for raids, and luckily raids receive only a very tiny portion of the game’s development resources, but others do.
So you think there are people that played GW2 for over 3 year only because of raids ?
Makes me wonder how many people play GW2 only because of its fantastic housing,
open PvP or flying mounts ^^No but do you actually think them adding to the game is a bad idea, because that’s what they did.
They filled a void in content for challenging instance content aimed at guilds/friends. There was nothing in the game for them, now there is.
There’s still the other 98% of the game for those that don’t want to raid.
Oh yeah .. and those 98% payed for an expansion where there was only content
for those that wanted “challenging content” and nearly nothing for them, so
thanks for nothing for my 100€ and i now give my money to Gazillion.
So yes .. i think it was a very bad idea at least to do the thing i always warned off :
giving the raiders special rewards .. since in the end that is always the same,
first its … noo .. we only want the challenge .. and then suddenly : why should
i play that kitten if i don’t get special stuff to show off how godly great i am ?
But for me .. next they should also gate legendary weapons behind raids, why not.
Maybe delete all legendarys that exist from the unworthy casuals .. could only
be good for the game, since the raiders paid, so why should other have stuff ?
