If a world is winning every math in a tournament, in next tournament they should be moved to a higher tier. If a world is loosing every match in a tournament, in next tournament they should be moved to a lower tier. If both statement is true over several tournaments, then the world do not truly belong in either tiers and it doesn’t matter where they are placed.

Stone Hearth

in Elementalist

Belorn.2659

Stone Hearth is a weak from of a shield. You throw down your high CD skills, and put up earth attunement for protection, armor and now crit protection.

Compared to warrior/guardian blocks, it is damage reduction rather than invulnerability, and it will allow us to use a limited number of condition based skills or conjured weapons.

If this tactic is worth 30p in earth will depend. It is active defense (rather than passive), and the damage reduction depend on who is attacking you (damage and not conditions). Sadly, loosing 6k health from not using 30 water (and the traits for condition removal) makes picking this trait a difficult one, and make you very vulnerable to conditions.

Calling “earth attunement” perma is like calling thiefs in stealth perma (except, earth attunement is used less than stealth).

So theifs have perma 100% crit chance, perma conditional removal every 3 seconds, and better than perma blind. Surely that is way more OP that elementalists perma.

Belorn.2659

Necros have the WORST survivability and mobility in the game, even WITH deathshroud. That’s because for DS our class has no access to: blinks, evades, blocks, invulnerability, stealth, consistent HP recovery and sustainable stability. Any other class in the game makes use of some are most of these and never give a second thought about how not having any is game-breaking for GW2 combat.

And people ask how anet could make a trait like diamond skin. Its looks consistent to other design choices. No health, no armor, no damage and insane cool downs. even WITH diamond skin, average self heal, and mist form on downed, it doesn’t make much difference. Any other class in the game only suffers from one of those draws back, and always excels in one or other area to compensate. Elementalist loose out here, and the stats in competitive combat tells the tale.

Goes raises the banner that says: Stop giving token gimmics to Elementalist and balance the class!

Gold to Gem conversion rate

Ah…the good old times when dawn was 40g…

That was only true during day 3 of game release. Gem prices during the same period was 800 gems for 1.6 gold (to sell).

A dawn costed 25*800 gems at sept 11 last year.
A dawn costs today 11*800 gems.

If you invested in gems rather than dawns from release, gems would have given you more than twice the return on investment.

I for one will just wait until dawn is <50$, and then accept the pay to win nature. That or try to fool myself that gear has no value in this game.

If YOU could change 7 things about GW2

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Belorn.2659

Belorn.2659

1: Redesign the client and drop system so bots do not work.

2: Make the game F2P so the current pay to win gem system actually makes sense.

3: Make achievement worthy items (like skins and minis) in the gem store obtainable from in-game activities.

4: Make constant item adjustments so TP trading is put under control, and item prices won’t fluctuate uncontrollable. Keep inflation under control

5: Make living world updates twice as slow. More focus on quality than quantity.

6: Balance classes towards 1v1, 25vs25 and 5 man team dungeon. Make sure each class are balanced on those 3 steps on equal ground.

7: Unique dodge animation for each class

“Immune to direct damage when health is below 10%.” .. imagine the possibilities..

Or they could simply give necromancers a second health pool and make it a class ability rather than a trait.

But silliness aside, I think everyone in the Elementalist forum would just love seeing changes that balanced the class, rather than one trait that is effective against 1/20th of the builds used in the game (all professions). Really. Dimond skin, while sounding interesting, will do nothing in making Elementalist competitive.

You won’t suddenly see elementalist go from zero players in tournament, to dominating. elementalist is the most underrepresented class, and will continue to be so until the class is actually balanced. This whole thread is about one of the most common picked classes, complaining about the least picked one. While it doesn’t excuse bad game design, it is a bit silly.

Playing for the inflationary compensation

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Belorn.2659

Belorn.2659

One side will argue inflation because attractive items wanted by the player base are constantly increasing in price.

The other side will argue that there is no inflation because a large amount of items are dropping in price, and that the quantity of low priced sold items is high. This prove that those items are still attractive and should be considered when calculation inflation.

The first side will then argue that the price is only low because those items are of very low priority, and quantity of those sold items is high simply because the investment needed to buy such items are next to nothing. Comparing a 4 copper food item that people buy 25 items to finish daily is not comparable to buying a competitive food buff that cost 50 silver. Quantity of sold items do not directly correlate to quality.

The third side will then argue that the first side do not have all the information. The third side would like to share the numbers, but its either a business secret or too much work to compile and they have better things to spend their time on.

The first side then gets annoyed and temporarily leave, and the thread repeats itself a few months later.

Do not directly compare different classes.

Then how should different classes be compared for balance purposes?

Count the number of Elementalists in tournaments?

Count the number of times Elementalists is request in LFG by dungeon groups?

Count the number of Elementalists in wvw?

Count the number of Elementalists playing in sPvP?

Count the number of newly created Elementalists each month?

Count the number of Elementalists that finish high-end living story such as The Queen’s Gauntlet?

Doing so, the conclusion would be obvious. Consistently Buff every aspect of Elementalists until the point where Elementalists popularity reaches the average class, and then nerf every aspect of every other class until they too reach average popularty.

Thats the only way to no directly compare different classes traits and skills.

In medium to large zergs, the only safe way to tag lords are to equip Arcane Blast, Arcane Wave, and Lightning Flash. Just click on all of those 3 as fast as possible, and the combined damage should be enough.

Fireball (gw2 version of the flare), and Lava Font do simply do not enough damage if your crits are unlucky. Flame Burst often do 0 damage, and Meteor Shower is random and often too slow to even get a single hit in most captures.

Conjure Frost Bow can be also be used most of the times, but is unreliable.

They do, but only if the enemy doesn’t move. Dragon’s Tooth, Phoenix, Churning Earth, Fire Grab, etc are some of the hardest-hitting abilities in the game. Hell even staff with Lava Font + Meteor Shower can do an insane level of damage.

No? Those are not some of the hardest-hitting abilities in the game.

Hundred Blades, Kill Shot, backstab, and Phantasmal Berserker are some of the hardest-hitting abilities in the game.

if you combo Dragon’s Tooth, Phoenix, Churning Earth, and Fire Grab, and the target stand still, you might get somewhere close to Hundred Blades but for 3 times the time (so about 1/3 of the dps). Average damage at best, under the condition of a stunned foe.

If your argument is to compare elementalist hitting ability to other classes, do not claim that elementalists has high damage potential. They simply don’t.

Because burning cause damage per second. 1 second of burning or 1.25 seconds of burning cause the same amount of damage.

Ok so you mean “because they round-down”.
You argument is not valid: it does synergize, actually it cannot synergize more.
There is a chance that this trait will have little effect if you apply little burn, but if you apply a lot then its affect is definitely noticeable.

How does it synergize more? What is your basis that a 1.25s burning do more damage than 1s?

If you really want players to feel safe speccing outside of water/arcane, their needs to be powerful survivability mechanics in fire and air. None of your proposed changes really add that. Fire Aura is something you could improve that would make 20+ fire really appealing, if having Fire Aura up was actually a reason for players to regret hitting the ele.

I would really like to see Fire’s Embrace being put into grandmaster, and have the aura change depending on Attunement. Something like 3s fire / 3s frost / 1s shock / 1s Magnetic. That would add a defensive layer on top of signet 30/30/0/0 builds.

Ember’s Might: 25% increased burning duration looks uninteresting both by the math, and as a choice. It for example do not synergies at all with other burning traits like Burning Precision and Flame Barrier. It would make more sense to add a secondary effect when burning is applied (Torment?), so it would synergies with Elementalist many skills that do apply burning but for a very short duration.

How does it not synergizes with these traits?

Because burning cause damage per second. 1 second of burning or 1.25 seconds of burning cause the same amount of damage.

Burning Fire: Compared to other professions similar traits, Burning Fire lacks synergy and gives less utility. The closest comparable skill is Warriors Shrug It Off, and it activates on 2 conditions (rather than 3), has shorter cool down of 30 rather than 40, and is a stun breaker. Other multiple condition removals such as Guardians Absolute Resolution has amazingly synergy with both other traits and elite skills, and can be activated on command. Warriors Cleansing Ire synergies great with other traits, and can be activated on command. Assassins Shadow’s Embrace synergies great with weapon skills, utility skills, traits, and it can be activated on command. Burning Fire need more synergy with the Elementalists other traits/skills to make the trait a viable choice. That, or move it down to Adept.

Diamond Skin: Interesting if somewhat gimmicky concept. The Elementalist ability to stay at full health is quite limited, but plausible, and would synergies well with the heal skill/s from weapon. At 85%, it will definitely look nice on paper.

How to nerf warrior PROPERLY.

in Warrior

Posted by: Belorn.2659

Belorn.2659

They should just follow the same process as they did with the elementalists. First do general nerfs to warriors high mobility skills. Also, nerf defy pains duration and disable skills while invulnerable.

When that doesn’t “fix” the situation, go after both Healing Signet Unsuspecting foe, leaving the previous nerfs intact to really kill the profession from competitive play.

Afterwards when the competitive play has been dead for a half year, make a post how warrior looks “pretty balanced”, and do minor improvements to Rampage and the skills a character has while carrying banners.

Thats the PROPER anet method for nerfing.

The math is pretty simple. Lets pick the bottom ranking world in a league and lets assume that they got a fair match if playing against any of the bottom half of a league. Lets also assume that in such matches, the win ratio will be equally 1/3.

14% chance that you get a fair match, 5% of a win. 2 month season, gives around 32% chance to get a single win rather than straight 8 losses in a row.

Top ranking world in a league will for comparable numbers get a 62% win ratio.

WvW Underdog Mechanic

in Suggestions

Posted by: Belorn.2659

Belorn.2659

Many feel playing when losing heavily in WvW that there is little point in playing. This need to be countered by something other than a boost or boon, as nothing can really impact a 1v5 player match up.

Concept:
When the 4th day of a WvW match has concluded, make the world which occupies the 3rd place as a neutral party. Points for that world become proportionally locked. When a player from that world want to enter outside the gates of their way points, they get a choice in which of the two remainder worlds (colors) to act as. The concept is similar to that of Southsun Survival, where players became Mist Walkers and impacted the match even after having lost the match themselves.

Why do we need this:
During match up where one world only has 1/5th of the total points of the winning side, players get frustrated. Larger worlds also feel incentivised to focus their efforts on the weakest world first, grabbing what ever easy points there are. This adds to the frustration, as the smallest WvW world feels unfairly targeted. Once the match up has reached a mid point, the world at 3rd place need a new incentive to play. Giving them a choice between joining the winning side, or continue the fight and join a greater force creates that incentive.

Impact on the game:
With the choice of temporarily helping either of the remaining worlds, this would strongly encourage a more honorable and friendly fight between worlds. Focusing on one world solely in start of a match, will then have a real impact on the second half of the week. The player base of the lost world will also have a unique chance to learn from a stronger world, increasing the chance of winning in their next match up. Players who feel fatigued by constantly losing will also have a chance to join a winning side, and would be an alternative to guesting. Lastly, the match would become less stale in the second half with one world focused on influencing the math one way or the other.

Points:
The world at 3rd place is handled by locking it proportionally to its position from the end of the 4th day. This encourages people to make a last push, and might sometimes even be enough to push them past 2nd place and rejuvenate their strengths and go for a win.

in Black Lion Trading Co

Belorn.2659

Lets not forget that Anet is a dominating influence in the market price. When they add sales for gem items, demand increase. If they ever create a sale for gems or gems->gold transfers, supply would increase. Marketing, and sales are undeniable factor in a demand-supply economy. Since Anet is the key player in this, maybe they could market a bit more for the supply side, as so far, all the focus has been to increase demand.

We don’t need regulations; only some attention by Anet to encourage more people to buy more gems for gold purposes. This would then balance their current actions of inflating of the demand with item sales and a rapid introduction of new items into the market.

Want: Limited timed Sale for cash->gold

in Black Lion Trading Co

Posted by: Belorn.2659

Belorn.2659

Olba: The way to technically implement it is not that very interesting, as the idea itself is what is worth discussing. Maybe Anet could do a special purchase method that instead of giving gems to the player, directly sells them and sends the gold instead. Or they could give out an special item that grants 20% more gold for a set number of gems, or just add a +20% more gold for next X gems next to the gems to gold interface. Not sure if the technical detail is that important.

However, I doubt the people buying gems for gold have much to complain about. Its a sale. How often has anet sales been meet by kittenstorms? If anet can give 20% off on bank spaces, or 50% off from special edition, why can’t they do the same for gold transfers?
