That is indeed true. Imo the air skills do not deal enough damage in general (compared to fire and earth). This is pretty weird since Anet made me think air would be one of the major damage attunements:

“Air

By harnessing wind and lightning, elementalists can target specific foes with focused, high-damage attacks. "

The perma swiftness is really nice though.^^

2 achievements bugged

Hello everyone,

here are the 2 achievements I am talking about:

“Fancy Footwork

Don’t trigger any of the tripwires, beartraps and spiketraps while you go to activate and complete the Wisp Event in the Swampland Fractal. The achievement is attained when the chest at the end of the fractal has spawned and the requirements have been met."

“The Floor Is Lava. Don’t Step In It.”

I have tried both several times. Did not get the achievements.

I tried it again in the last run with my friends to be completely sure. They finished the wisps part and then I walked carefuly around all traps to the boss. We killed him and still no achievement.

Next up “The Floor Is Lava. Don’t Step In It”. Let my friends finish all the enemies so I can be 100% sure I can’t fall down (which is pretty easy anyway). Finished the fractal, still no achievement.

Pretty annoying imo. -.- Any answers from Anet about this? I couldn’t find one by using the search bar… Did anyone get those achievements yet and if yes, how did you get them?

Elite Skills

Well, instead of using the greatsword you and the ally could just use the regular abilites. They are stronger when it comes to damage and healing/support. The AoE damage on landing is ok at best and not really worth the high CD. You are not completely wrong though, I had a some situations where the FGS was kinda useful.

Elite Skills

Some elite skills are ok, others are just bad.

An elementalist for example has 2 completely useless elite skills (“Conjure Fiery Greatsword” and “Tornado”). The underwater version “Whirlpool” is pretty good. “Glyph of Elementals” is ok. Having some kind of tank sometimes helps in PvE. For PvP however there is not a single good elite skill.

Thiefs are an example for (kinda) good elite skills. All of them are useful compared to not using them.

In general though I would say instead of having an elite skill I would much rather pick another utility skill.

Guardian:

Depends on your what you are playing. Supporting your team requires you to pay attention to what is going on around you. If you only play solo it is indeed a pretty “easy” profession. Really strong in PvE and PvP.

Warrior:

Imo the easiest profession for PvE (NOT PvP). You can pretty much faceroll the whole game if you are using a greatsword. The other weapons are pretty good too. In PvP however you are going to have a bad time. Pretty much any profession can counter you easily if they know how to play against a warrior (this may change in future patches though).

Engineer:

Not easy in PvE and PvP. You have to switch between different kits, etc. all the time to be effective. Some builds are also pretty weak.

Ranger:

Good for solo PvE since you always have a tank aka pet which makes it easy for you to focus on dealing damage. Meh for “high end” content like dungeons. Mediocre in PvP if you are bad at positioning, good if you are good at positioning.

Thief:

Ok for PvE. Kinda good for “high end” content (stealth res, high damage). Easy to use in PvP if you are simply spamming your skill. If you are not spamming though you can be much more effective but it also requires more skill.

Elementalist:

If you are a bad elementalist and only stay in one attunement pretty easy to play. If you want to be strong though an elementalist has a pretty high skill cap. You need to constantly switch between four attunements and keep all 20 skill CDs (cooldowns) and their combos in mind. High skill cap, but strong in any part of the game if played properly.

Mesmer:

Strong in any part of the game BUT also has a pretty high skill cap. You always need to play those mind games by using your illusions. Fun to play, but since you want an easy profession I would say no to this one.

Necromancer:

Ok in any part of the game (sometimes strong if played properly). Skill cap is ok which makes me wonder why you think it is difficult to play a necromancer. It’s not like you have to switch between attunements or kits all the time or have to play those mind games like mesmer players. An easy but still strong PvE build is the minion master. The minions do the majority of work for you while you can sit in the back casting a few skills.

To sum it up:

Guardian: Easy to play unless playing support. Yes.
Warrior: Faceroll for PvE, difficult for PvP. Yes if PvE player, no if PvP player.
Engineer: High skill cap. No.
Ranger: Ok skill cap. Maybe.
Thief: Maybe for PvE, no for PvP (if you want to play a thief properly).
Elementalist: High skill cap. No.
Mesmer: High skill cap. No.
Necromancer: Ok skill cap but since you are having problems with your necro right now no.

Keep in mind that this is only my opinion, other players may have different opinions. I hope this helped though.

I am not sure how the new loot system makes “the poor” poorer but I do agree, the pick your own daily is really nice. Also not sure about events being less social.

For the next patch though, I would love to see more major bug fixes (culling, sound bugs, etc.).

Will or voices be heard will anything change?

Not sure why you think eles got buffed this patch. D/D bunker was called “the only viable” ele build for PvP before the patch. If this is still true they got nerfed pretty hard.

I am sorry but for me it seems like you don’t really know what actually made the D/D bunkers so strong.

The only annoying thing about RTL was and still is the fact that you can get out of a lot of situations ONCE every 20 seconds. If you think that’s OP you should look at the thiefs and their escape mechanisms. Long stealths, several leaps, multiple shadowsteps and so on. And guess what, both professions need these mechanics. Imagine an ele without a good escape/defense. ANY bursty warrior/mesmer/etc. could pretty much one-shot you. That’s why we need some defensive abilities.

Here is the real problem about D/D bunkers BEFORE the patch:

We had too many heals in too little time. We could heal up and remove conditions by simply dodging. Besides that some other traits were to strong.

This not possible anymore (or at least pretty weak compared to the build before the patch):

“Evasive Arcana: The spell cast while in water attunement has been split between PvE and PvP. This spell’s effectiveness with the healing attribute has been reduced by 50% while in PvP.”

“Soothing Disruption: Vigor and regeneration boons granted by activating cantrips have been reduced from 10 seconds to 6 seconds.”

“Renewing Stamina: This trait now has a 5-second cooldown between activations and has a 100% chance to activate, increased from 33%.”

“Zephyr’s Boon: Fixed a bug that caused Shocking Aura to apply double the boons of other auras.”

“Ride the Lightning: This ability’s recharge has been increased to 20 seconds.”

The synergy between those traits and abilites was simply to strong, not RTL alone. I hope this makes sense to you.^^

Just an example how the tournament matchmaking was working ~1h ago. I highly doubt there were any improvements this patch since Anet didn’t mention it in the patch notes.

Hello everyone,

I hope you guys can tell me if and how the matchmaking for tournaments works. I am NOT talking about premade 5 player teams, I am talking about joining a tournament as a single player so please keep that in mind.

So far I have only played 4 tournament matches (I know I am a noob you don’t have to tell me that :P) but all of those matches were no fun at all. Why?

Pretty simple to explain: The enemy team ALWAYS had players with way higher PvP ranks than my team did. I am not talking about 2,3 or maybe 5 ranks, I am talking about 10-35+ ranks.

Obviously my teams just got steamrolled every single time (especially in match 3).

Some people will most likely tell me that I am the reason why we lost but I am pretty sure that this is not the case. I was the player with the highest score in my team every single match (except for the last one) and always capped the most points and/or had the most kills (“Top Player”).

In the last match I tried a different strategy. I wanted to defend one point and let the rest of my team capture at least one of the other points. As you can see by my score and the team score it did not work out at all.

My questions are: Is there any matchmaking? Does it work properly? Were my matches only bad luck or does this happen all the time?

I am honestly not trying to QQ here but since the matchmaking seems a little weird to me I am not really looking forward to playing more tournament matches.

The scoreboards for match 2,3 and 4 are below the wall of text. I sadly don’t have a screenshot for match 1 but it was pretty much the same like match 3.

here are my thoughts:

1. Wells are really powerful. That’s why they have a long cooldown. Besides that you can reduce the CD by using the trait “Ritual Mastery” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Ritual_Mastery). => No

2. Giving necros an escape mechanism like elementalists would just make playing against them to annoying. Necros are tanky just due to their high base HP, healing abilities and death shroud.

Now imagine a long fight against a necro. You finally bring him to low HP and he only has to use 1 skill to get away. Pretty annoying. Eles have the ability to escape really fast for a reason. They are the squishiest profession in the game (except for D/D bunker builds obviously but that is another topic). => No

3. Increasing the conditions cap would not help at all. Why? Because it would also be increased for all the other professions. Give them a better/faster way to stack conditions? Maybe. It is definitely not a bad idea BUT imo the current meta favors either bunker builds or burst builds. Condition builds should be buffed in gerneral but this would not help buffing necros in particular. => Maybe, but only the faster way to stack conditions part

Don’t get me wrong, necros should be buffed a little bit (just like engineers) but I don’t think your ideas do that in a good way. Besides that you may also need some practice. I know a lot of necros who are doing well in WvWvW. Sadly I am not one of them since I mainly play my elementalist.

Banners and Weapon Swapping

Hello everyone,

I am pretty sure it works the way it is supposed to be. Here is a little explanation:

Banners (warrior) and conjured weapons (elementalist) work the same way. They are both environmental weapons (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Environmental_weapon). Since conjured weapons trigger sigils, etc. banners will trigger them too.

Besides that it also makes sense. You are switching from your regular weapon (e.g. a hammer) to a banner, frost bow or any other environmental weapon.

4 bugs (3 with screenshots)

Hello everyone,

I hope it is ok to use 1 thread to report 4 different bugs (because I don’t want to spam by creating 4 threads in a row). If not I will creat a thread for each bug.

Anyway, here is the first one.

Ill Tempered Barracudas don’t spawn in the water (as you can see on screenshot 1 & 2). You can still attack them but they will not move or attack you. This happens near the dungeon “Crucible of Eternity”.

The second bug is a texture bug (screenshot 3). The character is a female asura wearing the light Flame Legion set. I am not sure when this bug appears since the textures are ok sometimes.

The 3rd bug is a Meteor Shower bug. If you cast the skill on terrain like the one in the screenshots (4-7) all the meteors will drop on 1 spot. (Not sure if you could abuse this in PvP too but imagine that while having quickness on you. A pillar made out of meteors. :S)

The last bug (I sadly don’t have any screenshots for this one) is an AI bug. If I use the elite skill “Whirlpool” the enemy will stop attacking me after a few seconds, reset (swim to their original position and regen health to full) and won’t attack me anymore. I can still attack and kill them afterwards. After seeing this the first time I tried it again and since then it pretty much happens all the time (especially when I am trying to kill a Veteran Giant Arctic Jellyfish in Frostgorge Sound).

Wait, isn’t that why they aren’t adding any more new zones/dungeons and building upon the core game instead? What major bugs are you running in to? They fixed a decent amount of class bugs (for my guardian at least) within the last patch, as well as various event and story mission bugs. Not to mention getting rid of some dungeon exploits. I know nothing about class balance as I just play whatever is fun for me, so I can’t comment on that.

feel free to read those 2 threads and you will see, even fixing all the engineer and elementalist bugs would be more than enough for 1 patch. Besides that there are still a lot of major bugs like character rendering in WvW/Dragon fights or the “famous” sound bug (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbdEc1sldQ8).

Anet already fixed a lot of profession bugs (like you said the guardian is one example) but there are still many more.

When it comes to balancing Anet did a mediocre job. Some professions seem to be balanced while others are not. The elementalist is a pretty good example. The D/D bunker build is really strong right now while other builds are weak. For me however it does not really matter because I am also playing for fun which means whatever I feel like. I do know a lot of friends though who complain about the imbalance.

Magic is totally broken.

Killing 250 mobs within 1 hour does not prove anything. The amount of drops is just too little to compare. Doing this for a few weeks with several thousand drops would help us. Right now we are just comparing small amounts (1 rare – 1 rare).

Did you try different combinations? I thought I had this bug too but then I saw I already discovered the recipe (yeah, I am stupid sometimes).^^ If the bug still exists try switching to another crafting discipline and then back to cooking. Maybe this helps.

Another idea I tried is not using my earth or air attunement at all and focus on fire and water instead. It works but I feel pretty weak.

Is there really nobody here to help me? Maybe an answer from Anet which I didn’t find yet? I don’t expect a solution for this problem within the next days (since this bug exists since months) but something like “We are working on this problem” or “We know about this bug” would be nice.

Fixing conjure weapons

Hey

I like your idea but I think combining all conjured weapons would be too strong. The ability to have all conjured weapons available for just 1 utility slot is just too much.

Hello everyone,

here are a few ideas which I think might improve the elementalist gameplay a lot. While looking for combos to use on my elementalist I found this wiki page:

Here are some thoughts that came to my mind:

- Trident and utility combos look fine. There are a lot of different combos you can use to your advantage. => no need to improve here.

- Staff adds a lot of combo fields. => no need to improve here.

- Staff only has combo finishers in the earth attunement. => less finishers in earth, more in other attunements.

- Scepter has no combo fields. => add 1 or 2 different combo fields (not fire since we already have a lot of fire combo fields).

- Dagger and focus only have fire combo fields. => switch 1 to another combo field (I am not sure here since fire is most likely the most powerful due to the might stacking)

- Dagger, scepter and focus finishers are mainly earth or fire. => less earth and fire finishers, more air and water finishers.

Besides that I would also take a look at the traits. Most useful traits are either in arcana or water (that’s why x-x-x-30-30 is so popular). I feel like some of the stronger traits should be in fire, air or earth (there are already good ones but in total I still think arcana and water offer more). The community would have to think about new ways to play an elementalist effectively without just using the standard build.

Another topic which came to my mind are the conjured weapons. There are 2 reasons why most people are not using them (in my opinion):

- There is only 1 trait for conjured weapons which means there is no good way to improve them.

- Even if you could improve them there are still charges you have to worry about. This means you can only use the conjured weapons for a very limited time. => no reason to use traits for improvement since you can’t use them all the time anyway.

Here are the 2 obvious solutions for this problem:

- Add more traits which focus on conjured weapons. I feel like the basic +% damage, % recharge rate, etc. would be enough.

- Remove the charges. There is absolutely no reason to keep them. If the conjured weapons would be to powerful without charges just balance them. This would add a lot to the elementalist gameplay since you can switch from melee range (D/D) to longe range (frost bow) or from long range (staff) to melee range (lightning hammer) like any other profession. Even more defensive builds (earth shield) would be possible.

The last topic I want to talk about are the bugs. They need to be fixed. This would make some traits useful just due to the fact that they finally do what they are supposed to do. There are some major bugs like attacking environmental objects with several skills or the audio problems for asuras (this is a major bug, believe it or not) and minor bugs like wrong tooltips. The focus should be on the major bugs since they influence the general gameplay instead of minor things.

Besides that the elementalist and engineer have more bugs than any other profession (just by looking at the bug threads in the different profession forums) so they definitely deserve some more attention.

Icons not changing after transmutation

Same problem here. Some icons change, some stay the same. I just tried 4 different skins. 2 icons changed, 2 stayed the way they are.

It’s just a minor bug which doesn’t really bother me but like Douwe I just wanted to let you know.

Idea about a balance to the nerf

I think they definitely have those things in mind. There are people working at Anet full time just to think about balancing the game so they most likely had this idea a long time ago.

The problem is every little buff/nerf takes a lot of time. Besides that there are also a lot of bugs waiting to be fixed.

The only thing we can do right now is wait and hope. Hope that Anet had enough time to try out the changes and fix some bugs too.

And don’t worry, the elementalist will never be trash just due to the fact that they offer a lot of utility and damage. The bunker build will be nerfed but other builds will become better and more popular which is always a good thing.

Any Necros Play Solo?

I don’t know about necros because I am only playing my ele right now but so far I could finish all skill callenges on my own without any problems. Usually I just summon my earth elemental (elite one if it is a difficult skill callenge) and let it tank for me. While it is tanking I can simply kill the enemy without having to worry about my hp.

Not having a tank was the main reason for me to nearly die sometimes but once I figured out that it actually helps a lot I had no more problems.

Maybe you should try that too. Use some minions as tanks and try it again.

Just got my chest! So happy it finally worked! And for those who didn’t get their rewards yet, here is another reply I got about 2h earlier:

Thank you for updating us regarding the recent delivery of the Lost Shores reward chest. We are currently investigating some reports that some reward chests were not properly distributed. Once we have completed our investigation, we will update your ticket with more information."

Seems like they are still trying to fix it so you might still have the chance to get your reward!

Same issue here. I did the event twice and did not get any reward. The first time the client crashed after a sound bug (http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=gbdEc1sldQ8) right in front of the boss and I could not get the chest. The 2nd time I died and couldn’t spawn at the waypoint. After that the login problems started so I wasn’t able to play for another 2h… So far no one in my guild (~500 players in the guild) got the chest. Whether I get the chest later or not I am highly disappointed. I was expecting a high quality game after playing Guild Wars 1 for years…

Besides that I still have the items I got in phase 1 (I think it was phase 1). Can I destroy them now?

Lost Shores Feedback Thread

After playing Guild Wars 2 for the last 3 days and trying to enjoy this one-time event there are a few things I liked and a lot that should be improved for the next events.

Pros:
- The map design: Nothing to complain about there, looks good and fits into the existing world.
- The dungeon: The best dungeon I have seen in any game yet. Different environments and enemies really made this a lot of fun.
- The jumping puzzles: Also well designed and not too difficult like the Halloween one.

Cons:
- Lags: The game was barely playable. Neither the characters were moving nor was the chat working. Even though this only occures during the event it is really annoying and pretty much ruins the whole experience.
- DCs: A lot of players disconnected during the event or right before they could get to the chest after the boss fight (including me ). The drops seemed to be pretty good from what I have heared but it is really frustrating to fight for a chest for 2-3 hours and get no items at all in the end.
- Login: Login server problems during the event. This is one of the reasons why a lot of players couldn’t finish the boss fight.
- Event length: Phase 1 and 2 were ok, but phase 3 was just way to long in my opinion.
- Bugs: NPC bugs and other bugs all over the event. I thought those events would be tested at least once before they are available for the community?
- Time: Some people have to go to work or school. If there is an event starting on a Sunday make sure it ends before Monday. (Mainly for European players)

As you can see there are way more cons than pros which means there is a lot of space for improvements. For those ones who didn’t get their loot in the end, I am really sorry for you guys. Maybe you will get some sort of reward for this event even though I highly doubt it. I don’t really care about not getting any items but what really frustrated me were the lags and bugs. I wasn’t able to enjoy the new content at all.

I am still looking forward to more events but if they are as bad as this one I am not sure if this is the right way to keep the community motivated.
