The bunker build will be fine after the patch. They just nerf some parts of it. Here is the real problem imo:
The patch will hit all the other builds even harder (yes, the ones which are not viable in the first place) without any compensation. What makes it even worse is the fact that Anet knows about the ele only having one viable build. They mentioned it 2 months ago, 1 month ago and kinda in this SotG as well.
Since release there hasn’t been a single attempt to change this situation and that is what makes it so frustrating.
I personally don’t care about the bunker build. I stopped using it in February because it was boring to use it for months. The nerf to all the other builds though, that is something I do care about and that is why I am pretty disappointed.
You will get “better” crafting material and drops in the new zones which means you won’t get any more copper but iron instead. If you still want to increase your crafting skills you can either go to another low level area or you can buy them from other players.
I hope this helps.
I tried to craft a precursor for the first time today. Got mine at the 3rd attempt. Guess I was a little lucky.
Spend ~30g on mats -> 52 rare GSs -> Dawn, 1 exotic GS worth ~2g and 2 rare GSs
Tbh I wouldn’t expect any huge AI improvements soon. AI programming is one of the most difficult parts when it comes to any kind of programming. It will take a lot of time to improve the current situation.
I know but that’s a different topic.
No. A Grandmaster trait for a single skill. Just no.
Well, it is not really free.
You used a Utility skill with a 75sec CD for that “free heal”. Besides that your opponent can do the exact same thing while you are in Mist Form without using a single Utility skill because you can’t attack him.
You can’t interrupt the ele heal though and that is what made it a little too strong for bunker builds.
100b is most likely one of the best builds against new PvP players.
Immobilize/stun/etc. (“My character doesn’t move! Help!”)
→ 100b (“My HP! Where are my HP?!)
→ some auto attacks or other skills which are not on CD + Finish (”Oh no, I am dead.
)
→ /dance (“Warrior is OP! Nerf please!”)
Once your “stun break/condition removal/dodge” finger is fast enough the build is no problem anymore. In fact, it is actually a pretty weak build if you dodge the initial burst.
I do understand why new players complain though. It is pretty frustrating to play against it if you don’t know how to counter it.
+ Air. Thanks.
They would need to change a lot to make signet eles viable.^^ I guess most players will still use the same bunker build (which would not be “OP” anymore) and the other builds… well… those were never viable and will most likely stay the same for a few more months.
What Kaos.9162 said. +1
They will most likely buff Signet of Fire as well.
AFAIK yes. Otherwise the skill would be pretty useless compared to what it used to be. “Only” your 6-10 skills will be locked after the patch.
Currently warriors are:
PvE = godlike
WvW = ok
sPvP = ok
tPvP = bad
In the next patch there are going to be some buffs for warriors (mainly for sPvP and tPvP) but most likely nothing which would make them OP in those 2 parts of the game. When it comes to WvW I can’t really tell you how it is going to change the warrior meta there. The only thing left is PvE and that is something you could complain about. Imo they are a little too strong there.
Maybe I should read more and write less…
“Eles do have many builds possible.”
Stopped reading here. Which builds are you talking about again?
You don’t understand!
- Boon Hate: Who needs boons as an ele anyway, right?
- Cleansing Water nerf: Who needs to remove conditions with the lowest base HP anyway, right?
- RTL nerf: A roaming ele? Haha….
- Signet of Restoration nerf: Sustain? What is that?
- Mist Form nerf: Was useless anyway. I guess.
But here is the new meta:
- Buffs Glyph of Storms: Is now going to one-shot everyone. Like it did before.
- Signet buff: I can already see it coming. The OP signet ele.
- No buffs to Conjures, etc.: Conjures are OP anyway. Last week somebody killed me with Conjure Flame Axe. Just OP. Please nerf.
No, seriously. I think the bunker build will still be ok. What about the other builds? Well, they will stay as strong as most warrior builds. I am pretty sure the other buffs will compensate for that though…
From an ele perspective: back to uselessness.
+1 Chaosky.5276. xD
New SotG, new nerfs. Here is the link if you didn’t watch it:
http://beta.twitch.tv/guildwars2guru/b/396007412
(skip to 34:44)
To sum it up:
- Boon Hate is going to hit eles really hard
- Huge nerfs to Cleansing Water, RTL, Signet of Restoration, Mist Form and other Cantrips
- Slight buffs for some other skills like Glyph of Storms
- Signet buff (which affects all professions)
- No buffs to Conjures, etc.
In general another disappointing SotG for eles. Major nerfs and minor buffs, no intention to make other builds viable and the worst thing is:
The next patch is not going to be a balance patch aka another 2 months without any improvements.
Really disappointing.
Maybe I was a little inaccurate:
A lot of Healing Power = a lot of healing
Currently it heals too much, even without a lot of Healing Power. If you decrease the base healing a lot and slightly increase the ratio the skill would follow the rule again. Bunkers would be weaker while still being viable. DPS builds should not be able to heal a lot. There are several reasons why we don’t see DPS eles but let me tell you what would happen if they would be viable and the base healing would stay the same:
They would deal a lot of damage and heal a lot. And that is something I personally don’t want.
I can’t tell you the exact numbers on how much the base healing and ratio should be. Anet would need to try different numbers. In the end the skill should heal less while still scaling well with Healing Power.
You forget to mention you only have 1 stun break and 0 or 1 skills which give you Stability. That means you will most likely need someone to protect you which will obviously happen in tPvP.
I also think the ele bunker (doesn’t matter if it’s D/D, S/D or slight variations) needs some kind of nerf but the rest of the ele definitely needs a buff.
3 utility skills on a 45sec CD (which can be even decreases if you have some points in Trickery). Sounds balanced to me. xD
I was expecting another QQ thread but this one is actually not that bad.
Tbh I would not remove Cleansing Wave on off hand dagger. It simply fits the other skills. You need to be close or channel your abilites (aka enemies will hit you) to deal damage which means you also need to some way of healing. Freezing Gust would not compensate for that.
Here is what I would do instead:
Lower the base healing on Cleansing Wave and increase the ratio with Healing Power. Burst builds could heal less and bunker builds would stay viable. This would also make Evasive Arcana less powerful. Problem solved.
Why did you create this thread in the first place? There are hundreds of threads with the exact same topic and Anet already said they are going to nerf the “Cantrip” ele.
(Which is the right thing to do imo but they should buff the other builds as well.
)
These skills seem pretty random imo. I am not sure why you chose those ones but yeah, we definitely need more stun breaks if Anet wants to change the meta. Otherwise people will just stick to these utility skills.
D/D cantrip/aurashare is either 0/10/0/30/30 or 0/0/10/30/30. S/D works as well.
The first one would look this this:
http://imgur.com/wjkYZ
The second one would use Earth’s Embrace instead of Zephyr’s Boon.

+1 for GS.
Really loving the skins so far and some new skills would be nice as well.
[Edit] Grammar…
Maybe this helps:

I am not sure if the skill is working as intended and the tooltip is wrong or if the skill is bugged though.
The first buff was already announced here:
:)
Those builds are not “glass cannons”. Both are the standard Water/Arcana build (with slight variations) and different gear. “Glass cannon” means no points into water or earth (which are both more defensive trait lines) and pure damage which simply doesn’t work against better players with the current traits.
Last Refuge is the first minor trait in the shadow tree and it activates blinding powder at 25%. This trait is extremely frustrating and i absolutely despise it. Been playing thief since launch and i have learned how to play around it, but still it has the same major flaw. Considering thieves are relatively squishy and depend on stealth for survival.. nothing hurts more than a 4 second reveal at 25% hp because last refuge proced at the wrong time. This issue keeps popping up especially when ur health drops quickly while in the middle of action… for example when using cloak and dagger. With a 3 second reveal it was manageable, able to use evade twice in a row to kill some time, but with 4 seconds you are screwed. I ask this trait to be fixed, ideas would be that it shouldn’t proc reveal or that it causes vulnerability similar to eles’ mist form or completely remove it.
Since when does Mist Form cause vulnerability? oO
Imo they shouldn’t remove the trait. Instead they should change it to a major Adept trait. This way the problem would be fixed and people who actually like the trait are still able to use it. There would be a new minor trait needed though (obviously).
I am pretty sure there are still some warriors out there. Not too many though since it is pretty difficult to find a strong team comp with warriors in it (sadly).
(There are quite a lot in any other part of the game except for tPvP though so it is not as bad.
)
“Both speed buffs and debuffs do not stack” (http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Movement_speed)
Since Swiftness and the Rune of Speed 6 piece bonus are both speed buffs they don’t stack. The maximum bonus speed for all professions is 33% (except for Engineers who can use Super Speed and Thiefs with Fleet Shadow).
I am pretty sure 1000 people buying gems with real money are better for Anet than 1000 people buying gems for in-game gold. So no, they are not equally good for Anet.
Back when the game was released 100 gems were only like 50s, now they are close to 3g. Guess why? Because most people buy them with in-game gold instead of money. This is one of Anets attempts to change this situation and make some money.
You only need the defense for difficult PvE content (which means only a few dungeons + high Fractals). The rest of PvE is way easier if you just kill your enemies really fast. You simply don’t need the abilities a focus offers there.
For PvP I would say the focus lacks damage and mobility which means you can’t properly engage/disengage and most likely kill your opponent. That’s why most players prefer x/D.
Besides that it is pretty useful in huge WvW fights. You can’t roam alone but as long as you stay with your group it really is a strong weapon.
I don’t think they will implement a way to earn gems or (huge) amounts of gold in PvP. Here is the reason why:
PvP player has no gems but wants his own CA→ does not want to play PvE → spends money on gems → happy Anet
No seriously, why would a company implement a way to ruin their own business?^^
Yes, you can play PvE for gold (=gems) but they have other ways to sell their gems there (e.g. the Molten Alliance Mining Pick). Besides that it is easier to work for 1h to get the money for it and buy it with gems than to farm in PvE for several hours. That’s why a lot of people prefer to spend money.
Interesting idea but here is the problem:
A single dodge would make the warrior useless for a few seconds. I know there are other ways to prevent the damage but dodging is the easiest one and since every profession can dodge everyone would have a build in counter.
Besides that I don’t think the warrior lacks damage. There are other things which need some improvement.
Agony removes a percentage of your health every second and the only way to mitigate it is Agony Resistance which means it doesn’t matter which gear you are using, it will always remove the same percentage of your health. In fact, less HP means it removes less HP and that means healing is more effective because your maximum HP is lower (I hope this makes sense^^).
For the scepter and focus I would do some CoF path 1 runs. One run per day (~10-20 mins) means 60 Flame Legion Charr Carvings. The focus is 210 Carvings and the scepter 300. This is the cheapest way to get both weapons imo.
It can work against bad – mediocre opponents but here is the problem:
It is a really high risk (compared to most professions) and only mediocre reward. This is because of 3 reasons:
- Low survivability because you have the lowest HP and armor and only your mobility/dodge and cantrips as defense. If you don’t dodge properly or use your cantrips fast enough you are dead.
- The high damage skills are on a very long CD and/or are pretty difficult to hit. It’s not like a thief or mesmer who can burst you down and if it doesn’t work they just disengage and try again. If you miss your skills you are either dead or you have to use your cantrips and wait until your skills are off CD again.
- The air/fire/earth traits are really bad compared to water/arcana. They offer very little and have little to no synergy. It is simply not worth it to spend more than the last 10 points on any of those trait lines. (If you need further information feel free to read this guide: https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/elementalist/Guide-Rating-Elementalist-traits/first)
Maybe this helps.
In high Fractals and other difficult PvE content at least 1 Guardian in a group is a must. So yeah, Guardian is still viable (and imo one of the best/most balanced professions).
Back when I started PVT gear was really useful because I didn’t know a lot about dungeons/Fractals. Once you know where and when to dodge you can switch to full Berserker to speed up your run. In high Fractals you either dodge or die anyway.
Currently I am stuck at ~lvl 40 when it comes to Fractals (mainly because I can’t really find a good group when I play) and I am still doing fine with full Berserker.
You should try scepter/focus too! Especially earth 4/5 and air 4 are really useful in difficult dungeons/Fractals.
There is something I forgot to mention:
At least 1 Guardian is a must in high Fractals and other difficult PvE content. Especially the “shield” skills are really useful and that’s why groups expect to have at least 1 person with these skills.
Don’t worry, they are already nerfing it.

Very well written Symbolic.
Great write-up. Just so you guys know, we’re trying to bring down the cantrip Ele, while also being careful to let other Ele builds work. We don’t want to just take all Ele’s out of play, but we do need to bring a few things down (traits/skills) in efficacy.
Let’s hope they buff the other builds at the same time though.
Another thread which just turned into a D/D ele discussion.
There are hundreds of threads about this topic out there so feel free to use them.
Bunker vs bunker = you won’t be able to kill him unless he is really bad.
Burst vs bunker = you might be able to kill him depending on your/his skill level.
There are several answers in the sPvP and Ele forum if you want to know how.
Most of the time Guardians are used as supports. They have tons of utility and boons. They can be played as a damage dealer as well but those kind of builds are not as popular.
Warriors are usually the “I jump on you and kill you as fast as I can” kind of profession. They can support and tank as well but not as good as Guardians when it comes to tanking imo.
Warriors are currently the most popular DPS profession when it comes to PvE while Guardians are really popular supports/tanks.
You shouldn’t care too much about what other people say about their viability. Both are absolutely viable unless you play on a high tPvP level.
Hammer warriors have been really strong in coordinated teams since WvW exists so I don’t really understand why it should be the FotM. 100b is also really good for solo roaming builds. In general it is easier for warriors to kill in WvW than it is in tPvP imo.
That’s why they are really popular in PvE and WvW.
