From my experience I would say you currently ALWAYS want to have 30 points in arcana. It sounds boring but that’s just how good arcana is.
Attunement recharge rage = MUST for all builds.
Boon duration = extremly strong since boons are the only real advantage eles have in PvP.
Traits = also really strong compared to the fire/air/earth traits.
Besides that instead of earth I would focus on air for your damage. The huge earth damage skill (5) pretty much never hits because any good player just runs out of the AoE or dodges it. Like you said fire is good for damage though (skill 2 kinda sucks but 5 makes up for that).
In general elementalist don’t have that much single target burst (which you need in PvP) compared to something like a thief or a mesmer. You also don’t have a really strong defense like stealth or illusions unless you are building tanky. That’s why the D/D bunker build is way more popular than any D/D burst build. Sad but true.
I am not saying D/D burst builds don’t work, they are just not as good as the bunker one or the burst builds other professions have.
The hit boxes are exactly the same for all races/sizes (which sometimes causes you to take damage while you seem to be outside of the AoE but your hit box is still in it).
You do have a visual advantage though since it is more difficult to see what you are doing next. That’s why I always choose the smallest race/size available. :P
On the other hand if you are a tank looking bigger may give your team an advantage.
Thanks for your answers.
I will talk to my ISP. Maybe this will help.
Thanks for your answer.
I am pretty sure this is not the case since the game was working before I had these problems. I tried running Guilds Wars 2 without my firewall/AV running and I did not work. I also did not change any rounter settings and looked if there are any ports blocked which is not the case.
Since a lot of my friends can’t play either I guess the Guild Wars 2 servers will be the problem.
Btw the server is “Riverside [DE]” if this helps.
Here are some problems I have since a few days:
- I can only log in sometimes (today it took a few hours until I was able to log in again)
- Most of the time I am stuck in the loading screen
- If the game somehow manages to load the map I am stuck on a buggy overflow or laggy home server
- I can’t attack enemies (my character doesn’t cast a single spell, not even the auto attack)
- Can’t harvest anything (it either doesn’t start at all or I only get “Ruined” items)
- Can’t use the TP
- Chat doesn’t work
I am assuming this is a server problem since every other game I have does NOT have these problems. I also talked to some friends and they said they have the same problems. Please fix this so we can finally play the game again!
Same here. Can’t even join the dragon fights on my home server since I am stuck in bugged overflows or the loading screen… -.-
#bestpatchever
Imo it should be a visual effect since there are already a lot of sound effects during a fight.
There has to be some kind of counter. You can counter anything in the game but stealth which makes it really strong. It should not be a huge nerf though since thiefs need stealth to be effective.

This is just one of the Anets anwers to this problem.
Next time feel free to search for other threads with the same topic. There is usually at least one with the same issue and a solution.
I love the new air elemental. Looks way better now.
The wisp look was fitting but pretty boring imo.
@Sacrypheyes.6043
The OP was asking why most people use the dagger as the mainhand weapon instead of a scepter. If you want to explain why you need to mention the synergy between off hand and mainhand weapon skills and PvP too. Besides that some scepter skills are just bad compared to the dagger ones.
You can use any weapon in PvE and PvP but why would you choose an inferior weapon? There is no reason and that’s why most players choose the dagger or staff. There are only very few scenarios where a scepter is the best weapon choice.
Hello everyone,
while doing a fractal run me and my group were teleported to the Snowblind Fractal. After some fighting we finally reached the Legendary Shaman. Here is where the bug seems to start:
We somehow managed to kill him with condition damage while he was on the unreachable location (stage 2 of the fight). This is why we couldn’t get our drops which sucks but this was not the problem.
After finishing this fractal I should teleport to the Solid Ocean Fractal. This didn’t happen. Instead I was still standing at the exact same spot in the Snowblind Fractal. My PC tried to load the next fractal again and again but nothing happend.
I had to log out and regroup so I could teleport to the Solid Ocean Fractal. The weird thing was when I arrived there I could walk one step and was instantly killed.
To sum it up:
Kill Legendary Shaman while he is on the unreachable location
=> stuck in Snowblind Fractal (PC tries to load next fractal but nothing happens)
=> relog and regroup
=> teleport to next fractal
=> killed after 1 sec
I have some screenshots if they are needed.
I had the same problem once. After killing the Claw of Jormag everything went on speed mode. Especially the auto attack was funny. There was no cast time on it which means fire balls as fast as you can push your mouse button.
=> Enemies dead in 2 secs by simply using your auto attack. I am pretty sure this it not how it is supposed to work. :P
This may be a weird question but is there a way to implement the same system for sound effects? I would love to have custom sounds for different abilites. Besides that we would also have a workaround for some sound bugs.
(English isn’t my native language either so please excuse any mistakes.
)
Thanks for you answer.
To be honest I did not think about the auto attack thing. If I play my elementalist I rarely use my auto attack since all the other skills are stronger and there are always other skills to use. Because this this a beginner guide you are absolutely right though, an auto attack is really important to start dealing damage.
Same issue like the auto attack thing. I never use the signet of air.^^ I always have perma swiftness since it is no problem for an ele to maintain it. But you are right again, this is a beginner guide which means signet of air makes sense.
I don’t know about the last argument though. Staff eles for example have a huge amount of combo fields (I think the most combo fields for a single weapon in the game) which you need to use in the right situation and D/D elementalists can be played super fast too (which also requires skill combos).
To sum it up:
You are right. Engineers most likely require more key presses.
I would also like to see the Air Attunement being improved. Currently it just fills the gap between fire and earth (and sometimes water) without really adding to much to the fight. The stun and blind are both nice but the rest is just… meh. The swiftness for example does not help in a fight at all (in PvE). You have perma swiftness anyway.
I really like your ideas but I feel like they are just going to be ignored like most other good ideas. Another idea I had was to make them like the air skills in Guild Wars 1. They had armor penetration back then which made them ok vs squishy foes and strong vs tanky enemies. This would also fit what Anet was aiming for with the Air Attunement.
P.S. I would also like to see these improvements for dagger and scepter. They are not as bad as the staff air skills but still not as good as the fire, earth or water skills.
Thiefs are good for PvE. Examples are above this post.
The ONLY thing I can think about is the damage but no profession comes close to a GS warriors damage in PvE (correct me if I am wrong).
Btw I have NEVER seen a warrior complaining about being UP in PvE. Never. Complaining about being OP with a GS and mediocre with all the other weapons yes, but never UP.
I don’t really know either but I guess because dropping aggro from being focused by all enemies to not being attacked at all was really strong. Stealth rez might be another reason.
I don’t know if the nerf was necessary since I don’t main a thief but from playing with a lot of thiefs I would say no.
I think you don’t understand me. I never said this. It was a quote from another player not my thoughts about the current situation.
For the second part, I don’t understand what is wrong about equal chances for every orb runner. It would make it pretty boring but nobody would argue about being UP/OP.
Nerf was needed. If you can tank all day as a DPS warrior (or whatever profession you played) there is something wrong. No more god mode, I am sorry. Not.
Pretty simple to explain:
Dagger offhand > focus
=> Dagger main hand > scepter since you need to be really close to your enemy to properly use all your dagger offhand skills.
Besides that you only have 1 aura instead of 2 and a basically useless fire 2 and water 2 skill (for PvP) if you are using a scepter.
Still not working here.
Server: Riverside
Zone: all zones with T5 and T6 mats
Nodes tried: Orichalcum, Ancient Sapling, Mithril, Verdant Herbs (basically everything available / sometimes T5 mats work)
Tools used: all Orichalcum
I never said bunkers aren’t better orb runners than glass canons (which is kinda obvious). It was just an answer to this:
“ele glass cannon can just rtl + mist form away
thief glass cannon can shadow refuge
mesmer is op enough anyway”
[Edit] Correcting my bad grammar.
(edited by Blackhat.4016)
There you go! Finally someone who knows how to play against an ele on this map. Once more people know how to play (remember, the map is still pretty new) there will be less issues with certain professions/build.
Necros are basically the only profession witout a lot of mobility but the amount of HP and CC they have (kinda) makes up for that. Currently I don’t think there is a profession which is not able to be a decent orb runner.
Oh boy, another l2p issue. If you can’t immobilize, cripple, stun, freeze, knockdown (or whatever you can use to keep them in one place) and one-shot them it is not because something is OP. It is because you and your team doesn’t know how to play and/or watch the orb.
It’s something Anet said when they announced Guild Wars 2. All professions should be able to be the damage dealer, tank or support (or a mix between those 3). Just because other MMOs do it differently it doesn’t mean it should be the same in Guild Wars 2.
By mage class I am assuming you mean D/D bunker builds which are the most common right now. If you are having problems with them here is how you can kill them easily:
Use some kind of boon removal (remove on crit, turn into conditions, etc.). D/D bunkers die really fast without their boons. Do NOT try to out sustain them, it simply does not work since eles have perma regen and a heal/condition removal on a short CD. Stun/burst combos also work really well (only if the ele doesn’t expect it).
Btw the whole discussion is completely off topic. :P
+1
Give all professions the same base stats/armor while being the orb runner.
Only orb specific skills allowed or you need to drop the orb.
The problem is it would be a little more boring since there is only one orb build.
This is coming from an “OP” (not really) ele player btw.
I personaly disagree. While leaps etc. are really strong (not only RTL, warriors etc. can be a runner just as good as any ele). If you would remove all the skills the only viable runner would be a warrior. Why?
Because he has the highest base stats and can be really tanky without using skills. Besides that it would change the meta to an even more bunker focused one. Why would you play a glass canon who can’t be the orb runner? There would be even less reasons to play anything besides bunkers (which most people including me hate).
The elementalist currently only has one way to build.
You need 30 in “Arcana”, there is simply no way around it. The “Attunement Recharge Rate” is a MUST for all elementalist builds no matter what you build. Besides that the traits and “Boon Duration” is really good.
“Water” is the only good synergy. The water traits are really good, even the minor ones. It also offers us some HP (which we need since our base HP is really low) and healing power.
30 points in fire, air or earth are simply NOT worth it since the 30 point traits are just bad. Some 10 and 20 point traits are good though.
It’s honestly kinda annoying to explain this to every single person who thinks they understand how the elementalist works. You only see what seems to be OP since everyone uses it but this is just because there is no other way to build. If you want to change the elementalist meta feel free to tell Anet to change/buff the fire, air and earth trait line in some way. If this does not happen people will stick to the current meta. It is that simple.
I would say engineers and elementalist need an equal amount of key and mouse presses (kits compared to attunements) but the fact that elementalists feel a little stronger for pressing the right keys makes them a little easier to play.
Same input when it comes to key/mouse presses
→ a little more damage/survivability for elementalists
→ easier time for elementalists compared to engineers afterwards.
Really nice guide.
I would definitely show this one to my friends if they just started playing Guild Wars 2. The only improvement I can think about is adding a PvP part (something like PvP strength and PvP beginner friendly) but this would most likey turn the thread into another PvP-QQ-thread so nvm. Well done.
Thanks for your answer.
I tried them once and really loved all the nice ideas. The problem is, I already used all my gold for my main and I am not even finished yet. Besides that I simply don’t have the time for another character but once I have more time I will definitely create a mesmer.
No problem.^^ Thanks for the answer though.
Since when redesign = nerf?
The only advantages eles currently have in PvP are the boons (regen, might, vigor, etc.) and healing on a relatively short CD. In every other aspect of the game other professions are stronger. By removing the only good trait synergy we have you would make the profession useless for PvP. Why would you pick an ele if he is not good at anything?
Here are my thoughts about the ele problems (copy and paste from other threads):
Build problems:
“Currently eles have to run the cookie cutter ele specs and utility skills if they want to play successfully. There are only 2 different builds to use, the D/D bunker (which is used by the majority of players) and a support staff build (only works in certain team comps). Why?
Pretty simple to explain if you take a look at the current builds:
- D/D DPS does not work, the damage is way to low for the risk you have to take. You are simply a one-shot kill.
- D/D support (most likely aura share) is pretty weak imo but the last patch may have improved the situation.
- S/D DPS is a one-shot kill again.
- S/D bunker is ok, but the split between “pure” damage and condition damage puts us in a weird situation. This is especially bad since the strong skills are really difficult to use (Dragon’s Tooth, Fire Grab and Churning Earth).
- S/D support is just bad compared to staff support.
- Staff DPS is good for PvE and WvW but bad for sPvP. It takes to long to deal the damage (e.g. Meteor Shower and Eruption). The enemy can just walk out of the AoE. Besides that you are a one-shot kill again.
- Staff tank is mediocre at best. Really bad compared to D/D and S/D.
Everything with a focus as your offhand is simply not viable. You lose the majority of your damage (earth and fire skills) and survivability (air and water skills).
For the utility skills I would say you need to pick at least 2 cantrips. The stun break is way to important for an elementalist. Cantrips are also very versatile compared to the other utility skills.
As you can see there are only 2 builds left. The D/D bunker is viable in pretty much any situation (1v1, 1v2, team fights, etc.) and team comp and that’s why it is so popular. The staff support build is stong too but needs a certain team comp to be effective.
This is why you “only” see D/D bunkers and that’s also why it is so annoying. If an ele kills you/defends a point 1v2 it is always the “bad” D/D bunker.
P.S. What I also forgot to mention is the fact that you ALWAYS need 30 points in arcana. The boon duration and attunement recharge rate is a MUST for ALL elementalist builds. The Arcana traits are also really strong compared to earth, fire and air."
RTL in particular:
“The only annoying thing about RTL was and still is the fact that you can get out of a lot of situations ONCE every 20 seconds. If you think that’s OP you should look at the thiefs and their escape mechanisms. Long stealths, several leaps, multiple shadowsteps and so on. And guess what, both professions need these mechanics. Imagine an ele without a good escape/defense. ANY bursty warrior/mesmer/etc. could pretty much one-shot you. That’s why we need some defensive abilities.”
I hope this helps. Btw this is only my experience but I am pretty sure the majority of ele players think the same way.
The thread title was good though. The rest… well… I am glad you are not working for Anet.
I think there are other good builds too (I prefer my staff ele for support for example) but when it comes to damage and survivability I haven’t seen anything coming close to the curent meta.
Nothing comes close to a GS warriors 100b damage in PvE.
Some professions come close to the tankiness/support a guardian offers but some skills are just to useful in PvE (especially the wards and shield skills).
Nobody else gives quickness to the whole group and can buff the group at the same time.
I hope Anet changes that in the future so all professions have the chance to be part of the meta.
Is there any profession which “plays itself for you”? The only thing I can think about is HS spammer thiefs but that’s about it. :P Every single profession needs some kind of skill, some are just more effective than others in the current meta.
Same happened to me yesterday. Suddenly in an overflow server… Usually the only area with an overflow server on my server is Lion’s Arch and that’s about it.
I know what you mean, it isn’t any different in all the other profession forums. All the “red” is either in the account issues forum or bug forum. Not sure if this helps though but good luck.
I think they changed the Predator so I guess it is working as intended. Did you check the Guild Wars 2 wiki yet? Maybe there is something mentioned about the change. The patch notes may also help.
+1 for thirst slayer.
Otherwise buy a lot of Obsidian Shards. Sooner or later you might need them (if you ever want to craft a legendary weapon for example).
Otherwise just keep the karma until you really need it. You never know if Anet might implement something new which needs karma.
Not sure why you would simply copy/paste the ranger bug thread and make a new thread in the bug forum. Do you really think Anet is going to go crazy simply because there is another thread complaining about profession bugs? There are several hundred threads like this one and I am pretty sure the same thing will happen… nothing.
I do understand you are upset about the current bugs for rangers (just like I am about elementalists bugs and pretty much any other player about the bugs for their main profession) BUT the best thing to do is report new bugs to the official bug thread. This thread will just be ignored and/or closed.
Sad but true.
This is “only” true for PvP though.
I never called someone a “casual faceroll warrior”. It’s just a sad fact that most people will see that kind of player in every single warrior, no matter if it is true or not. Please read before commenting. Thanks.
- Build variety in LoL = different champions, not items bought in the game (or would you define Guild Wars 2 builds by the armor the characters are wearing?)
- no big balancing problems, there are always the FOTMs which seem OP but besides that there was no game breaking champion or build in months (feel free to name some :P). New champions are not allowed for a certain amount of time before they are available in tournaments. If a champion still seems strong after that they will most likely be banned during the champion picks.
- nothing to add about the bugs
That’s why LoL is so popular when it comes to e-sports.
Besides that you are right about the ladder system and spectator mode. But like I said, I just wanted to mention “a few”, not make a complete list.
Tournamets with money prizes and sponsors will only come if they improve these things.
I do agree about Guild Wars 1 which was way better for e-sports imo.
Hello everyone,
since the patch I can’t harvest T5 and T6 materials anymore! Even though I am using the proper gathering tools (e.g. “Orichalcum Mining Pick” for “Orichalcum Ore”) it doesn’t work.
I can attach some screenshots if needed.

Underworld fractal with Dhuum as the boss. O_O
+1 for out of combat weapon switch.
In combat weapon switch would be completely OP but out of combat would simply give us 2 additional inventory slots like ALL the other professions have (except for engineer). 100% yes for both elementalist and engineer.
Hello everyone,
I thought about buffing the air skills for a long time but I didn’t know how. A simple damage buff would be boring. We don’t need the air attunement to be fire 2.0. Conditions would also make no sense since we got earth for that (and it would also not fit the elementalist in general).
Then I thought about Guild Wars 1. Back then the air skills did not deal as much damage as the other skills (e.g. most fire skills) but instead they had a passive armor penetration (I hope you guys know what I mean^^).
I feel like the air attunement needs some buffs and this would fit Anets idea of what air should be like:
“Air
By harnessing wind and lightning, elementalists can target specific foes with focused, high-damage attacks. "
Air skills would be good against tanky (specific) foes and weak against squishy foes.
What do you guys think about this idea? Please keep in mind this is not a QQ thread so no “ele is so OP plz nerf”. If you have any ideas write them down in a proper way.
Thanks for reading.
