Hello everyone,

I’m giving away a total of ~6300g in both gold and items for Christmas. This will mainly happen through GW2 streamers on Twitch (the last 1k was given away on Aurora_Peachys stream) but also other people I met on reddit, etc. My question is:

Will I get banned for this?

I’ve heard about people getting their accounts banned for sending too much gold per week. Since 6.3k is quite a lot and I only have a few more days for the giveaway, will this happen to me too?

High Ping/Latency issue

Ive got the same issue since a couple of days. Sudden lag spikes in pvp as well as pve. Mostly pvp but thats what i play most, so thats subjective. It stays unplayable (avg ping about 1000ms for some time and dann goes back to normal. Evenings and weekends mostly. Im in EU Region located in Swizerland. Its nice to have a deserter buff bc loadingscreen takes forever after dc bc of the heavy lags. Dc happens not often but it does. Other Games and i-net work fine in the same timeframe.
Other Players on the Map are complaining too in the same timeframe so i think we are definitly not alone…
Today after I was back in the Mists it was fine again, but that was not always the case.

Exactly the same except I’m from Germany and had lags/DCs all day. I really hope they fix this soon, the game is unplayable.

Did you kill Gorseval with that build yet? I’m not trying to be rude but Vale Guardian is rather easy and therefore a bad target to truly test your build. I know MightyTeapot was running a similar build for the raid which seemed to work well.

Completely agree.

The elite spec power creep needs to go so that the core specs have a chance again. Right now elite specs are a must pick instead of an equally strong alternative with their own weaknesses and strengths.

Professions need individuality to be interesting rather than being one big mess of game mechanics with a few professions on top and others at the bottom.

I posted this idea in another thread before:

Don’t remove the timer but instead of making it a “soft wipe” you tie the rewards to it.

Here’s the example for the Vale Guardian fight:

  • Kill the Vale Guardian with >1 min on the clock: Superior rewards.
  • Kill the Vale Guardian with <1 min on the clock: Regular rewards.
  • Kill the Vale Guardian after the timer: No rewards but you can go to the next boss.

This way more people can experience the entire content (which is why a lot a people complain atm) while keeping the new raid rewards (legendary armor, minis, etc.) exclusive to those who earned them.

It’s a good solution imo since it satisfies both hardcore and casual raiders while being simple enough for Anet to implement.

They’d also need to think about the Gorseval DPS breakpoints if they implement it though.

Good point. Since I’m not a native English speaker I couldn’t think of a better description. I didn’t want to use “buff” because that word (“nerf” as well) usually attracts the wrong kind of forum user. Feel free to suggest a new word though so I can change it.

I suggest you use the word “buff,” because that’s the correct word to use in this situation. You’re asking for buffs, so be upfront about that. The only alternative would be to think harder about what the Shortbow needs and actually suggest sweeping-enough changes so the word “rework” can apply.

For my part, I like the change to the autoattack, though I’d probably change it to a 1 sec Bleed + a 2-sec Bleed if you strike from behind our the side. No need to double the damage when we could instead just normalize it and put power into other skills.

I’m indifferent to your other suggestions. They don’t solve any problems, they just buff for the sake of buffing.

Changed it to “buffs” now since your argument makes sense. I just hope the trolls stay away from this thread.

The numbers on the AA and other skills are pretty much all buffs because that’s what the short bow needs imo. The skills themself make sense but the numbers are too low compared to other professions. That’s why I listed all the similar skills. Changes to numbers instead of entire skills are also easier to implement for Anet.

  • People need to work together (adjust builds to match the team comp/boss, communicate on TS)

Bad:

  • Lack of proper LFG option
    This really needs to change. It sometimes takes hours (!) to find a group. A lot of people don’t have the time for that so they completely ignore raids.
  • Timer
    It makes the fights slightly more challenging but the group usually fails because people don’t dodge or position properly. I would keep the timer but instead of being a group wipe (the reason why PuGs fall apart) it changes the rewards:
    The faster you are, the better the rewards. If you take too long you don’t get any rewards (to prevent face tanking the boss).
    This way more people could complete raids once they can play their profession properly and understand the mechanics of the fight. On the other hand it wouldn’t punish better players because they’d get better rewards. Maybe add some achievements or a leaderboard tied to the timer.

Just want to address this in your post. It’s already like how you suggested it to an extent. If you fail, you still get rewards, but if you manage to beat it you get better rewards.

The main reason why I want to change this is because there’s no progress for worse PuGs other than farming the weekly shard cap. You won’t get past certain bosses because of those timers and therefore don’t have a chance to experience the entire content/story. This would be very frustrating and give them less incentive to try the next raid. Thinking about it, they would also need to make sure those PuGs could get past the Gorseval DPS breakpoints. Otherwise they’d be stuck there too.

The entire point is to make the raid challenging but possible for a lot of players while rewarding those who do better.

But that’s what fractals and dungeons are. Anyone can do them, but if you do them faster you get better rewards. Raids are supposed to be there to scratch the itch for those wanting a challenge to beat the boss rather than, how fast can we get the rewards?

Fractals and Dungeons are pretty much dead atm meaning only raids are left as endgame content. People want to play the new content and get the new rewards (and legendary armor in the long run). Besides that there won’t be any new dungeons anymore but Anet will add new raids in the future.

The changed timer would mean the bosses are still challenging since it doesn’t change the mechanics in the fight. There’s also the time limit for rewards meaning those who can’t beat the boss now don’t get the rewards. They will see other parts of the raid/story though which leads to less frustration and therefore a bigger raiding community.

To sum it up:

It doesn’t change anything for good raiding guilds, gives rewards to those who deserve them and gives worse PuGs the chance to experience the entire content. In the long run it should improve the raiding community.

Removing the positioning part completely is against the design guideline Anet tried to follow to make the short bow a unique weapon. That’s why I wrote the long first part explaining everything before posting any suggestions.

An auto attack with just bleeds would be pretty boring. Instead we should try to keep the skill the way it was designed and balance the numbers to make the short bow a viable weapon again.

I think it either needs to be sped up if the restriction’s kept, or just made so that you get more/stronger bleeds while flanking and less if you’re not. Either way, Auto attack is improved and flanking still has some value with it.

That’s exactly what I suggested in the very first post.

Healer Guardian

You don’t need that much healing tbh. I play a druid healer in PuGs and I easily downed the Vale Guardian with magi/berserker gear (armor+weapons/trinkets). You need even less healing for Gorseval.

The big problem all the other healers (ele, rev and guard) have is:

You don’t offer a huge DPS boost while healing at the same time. Personal DPS doesn’t make up for it. That’s why a lot of PuGs want druids atm. They’re rather easy to play (imo), heal a lot and offer crazy DPS boosts for the party while their pets deal decent damage. All of that in just 1 build.

I’m not trying to discourage you, I would actually love to see a good guardian healer beating all 3 bosses. It’s just something to keep in mind.

I was raiding last night too. One guy actually kicked his friend from our group because he “only” had a reaper with ascended gear. Don’t worry about raids for now, it’s kind of like the “5 warriors and nothing else” meta from a while ago. I’ve seen a lot of reapers doing great. As long as you know how to play your class, understand the mechanics in the fight and got decent gear you should be good to go.

The last time I checked the Dulfy guide it was suboptimal imo. It said Zealot gear is optimal which is not true. Full Zealot gear works for all 3 bosses but a mix and match of magi, clerics, zealot and berserker gear is better.

I usually aim for 1k healing power with buff food and the rest should be mainly damage (for the DPS phase with the 2nd weapon set). Vale guardian is pretty easy so you shouldn’t have any problems there. Gorseval on the other hand needs very high DPS and less healing. Just start with the 1k healing power and customize the build depending on your group.

Since I only do PuG runs it usually stays at 1k HP but with better groups you can go all the way down to a few hundred HP. For runs with a dedicated raid guild I would try full zerker with monk runes and healing food.

[Raids] Zealot alternative

Some feedback again:

Added a few Berserker pieces instead of Magi ones. Anything above 1k healing power feels like an overkill. The extra DPS should help a little. The glyph build feels much better for the Gorseval fight.

Some general stuff:

The difficulty is great. The Vale Guardian can be done by PuGs without any big problems imo. 2nd one is a little more difficult. Didn’t have the time to try the 3rd boss yet but I heard it’s easier than Gorseval.

There’s just one thing I really don’t like:

It takes forever to find a group for anything after the 1st boss. This is no problem for raid guilds but for solo raiders like me it is. I didn’t find a single group in over 4 hours so I just created my own. Sadly the average skill level in the group was… unexpectedly low. A lot of players had problems with basic mechanics like dodging, pulling and gliding. Disappointing but I hope it will get better once more people get past the 1st boss.

I finally tried the raid for 2 hours last night with a terrible PuG and we got the first boss down to 10%. Finished him with a new PuG after ~1 hour today (43 secs left). The mesmer in our group recorded the fight: https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=3jPQ3ERjXHU

I was using exotic magi armor and weapons (the ones you get from AC) + my old zerker trinkets. I only spend 3g on sigils and ~1g on food/utilities (you can use cheaper ones though). This means you can finish the first boss without really spending any gold.

We tried the 2nd boss for another ~2 hours later and got him down to about 25% before people made mistakes. Should be possible to finish him with the gear/build I was using. I would use zerker weapons for this fight though since you don’t need that much healing and more damage.

If anyone is interested I can post the exact gear, build, pets and so on.

Hello everyone,

is there any viable alternative for the Zealot armor/weapons? I don’t want to spend 200g+ to change my old ascended armor. Stat combos which might work imo:

  • Magi
    More healing but close to 0 damage. Since there’s a timer I’m not sure if this is viable.
  • Celestial
    Decent healing and damage. Also somewhat tanky. Seems to be a good choice imo.
  • Berserker/Cleric/Magi mix
    Could work since you can mix and match depending on what you need.

Please let me know which armor/weapons/trinkets you’re currently using and if it’s a viable choice.

Hello everyone,

in this thread I want to discuss and rework the ranger short bow skills. I know there’re a lot of threads about this topic already but most of them are outdated. Since Anet is currently trying to balance the game again (after introducing the elite specializations) this is probably the best time to give them feedback and hope for improvements.

First of all I really like the short bow for ranger. It offers offense, defense and utility in one (!) weapon set. Mainly the low damage makes it a bad choice.

So what should be changed? Let’s check the wiki first:

“Quick skirmishing weapon relying on movement, positioning, and conditions for quick kills.”

  • Movement
    Evades, swiftness, etc.
  • Positioning
    Lower damage and less utility if you don’t position yourself properly. Higher if you do.
  • Conditions
    Main damage sources are conditions, direct damage is only a secondary option (condi weapon, hybrid possible).

So what does this mean for the skills?

Crossfire
Fire an arrow. Bleed your target if you hit them from behind or from the side.

Similar skill: Stone Shards
Stone Shards offers exactly the same except for higher, unconditional damage. This means we need to increase the auto attack damage while keeping the positioning component.

-> Fire an arrow. Bleed your target. Inflict additional bleeding if you hit them from behind or from the side. 3 sec bleeding + 3 sec bleeding if you hit them from behind or from the side.

Poison Volley
Fire a spread of five poison arrows.

Similar skill: Splitblade
Same skill. One deals poison damage, the other bleeding. Poison Volleys CD is much higher though (9 sec < 6 sec). Since it’s the only other main damage source of this weapon the CD needs to be lower. This increases the combo potential with Poison Master (which nobody uses atm) and poison debuff uptime for extra utility.

-> Lower CD to 6 sec.

Quick Shot
Fire a quick shot in an evasive retreat. Gain swiftness if the shot hits. This can be used while retreating.

Similar skill: Disabling Shot
Same skill. One offers swiftness, the other cripple. Quick Shot has a lower power coefficient though which means less hybrid potential.

-> 0.4 coefficient increased to 0.5.

Crippling Shot
Fire an arrow that cripples your target. Your pet’s next three attacks inflict bleeding.

Similar skill: Aimed Shot
Crippling Shot offers less cripple (3 sec < 5 sec) on a higher CD (12 sec < 10 sec) and lower range (900 < 1200). The only advantage is “Blood Thirst”. The goal is to improve the utility without increasing the damage.

-> 3 sec cripple increased to 6 sec (same uptime as Aimed Shot).

Concussion Shot
Daze your foe with an arrow. Stun them if you hit from behind or from the side.

Similar skill: Headshot
Concussion Shot offers higher damage, a longer daze and a conditional stun. On the other hand it has a very high CD (25 sec). This means it can’t be spammed (higher skill requirement) and also has a lower combo potential with traits like “Ancient Seeds” or “Moment of Clarity”.

-> Lower CD to 20 sec.

I think there’s one big problem with this video (and that’s not Nemesis hating on other players / players hating on Nemesis):

He mixes 2 big topics in 1 long video.

  • 1st video should have been about the “Frostbow meta”.
    I think even the “pro” players can agree with most of his points here. Frostbow combined with buffs/debuffs and skipping completely trivializes PvE. A lot of players don’t even know how to play without it anymore meaning they just die once they need to dodge / use any other tactic. Besides that the frostbow is one of the main reasons why the community wants multiple eles in their parties instead of all the other profession.
  • 2nd video should be about the necro.
    A lot of replies don’t include the “Frostbow meta” at all. Instead they criticize the flawed calculations and rightly so. Nemesis has some good points but he also made mistakes (if you’re interested just read the comments on reddit).

Right now you mainly see people either agreeing with the “Frostbow meta” or criticizing the calculations. It’s just 2 groups of players talking about 2 completely different topics instead of focusing on how to improve the game after watching the video.

Something nastier than PU mesmers?

A few words about this “OP” build (compared to the PU condi roamer):

Pro:

  • Perma stealth
    If you do it right your enemy will never see you while taking damage. There’s an easy counter though which I’ll mention later. The PU build is not even close to the stealth uptime of this build.
  • Very tanky + good sustain (stealth + dire gear + SA traits)
    There’s no way to kill a decent trap thief unless you reveal them. The dire gear combined with stealth and SA traits make it really easy to stay alive. It’s pretty similar to the PU condi mesmer. You have more stealth uptime but less boons.
  • Decent mobility
    Very mobile compared to the PU build. I don’t think I need to explain this.

Con:

  • Low damage
    Keep in mind there’s no burning, torment and very limited access to confusion. The only way to die to this build is by standing in the caltrops for the entire duration and not cleanse the bleeding stacks. Just using your “W” key + condi cleanse from time to time is enough to counter the damage output. Besides that the damaging skills have very high CDs (24 / 30 secs). This is probably the biggest problem with the trap thief. Unless your opponent is afk or doesn’t realize what’s happening there’s no way to kill him meaning you could kill them with any other thief build.
  • Revealed
    Another good counter is revealed. The easiest way to get the thief out of stealth is by standing in their black powder. They need to HS through it to get perma stealth which means they’ll hit you and won’t be able to stealth again for 3 secs. This is sometimes enough to kill them but they usually just Infiltrator’s Arrow away.

To sum it up:
They won’t kill you and you won’t kill them unless either one is bad at roaming. It’s lame to have perma stealth while dealing damage but the damage output is so low it won’t be a threat to players with a “W” key and/or condi cleanse. Besides that there’s an easy way to reveal them. The trap thief is similar to the PU condi mesmer. You have more stealth but less damage.

LB without the LB traits is pretty meh. Also LB = power build. There’s no reason to use a LB in a condi build.

The only 2 builds I usually see are:

What title says. 20-30% of ranger damage is almost always out of use.
a) your pet is out of range
b) dead
c) your pet casts damage way to long and there for enemy is ready to dodge it.
d) WvW, pets are on hold at zerging (they die instantly if not)

In my opinion ranger should have options to:
- activate pet use through traits with at least 1 point in beast mastery.
- if he has beast his 10-25% bow power should be transferred to pet
- if ranger doesn’t want to use pet he gets 3 new abilities with archery stats.

3 new abilities if ranger doesn’t use pet:
F1 FOCUS SHOTranger charges arrow shot for 1-3 seconds where every 1/2 of second increases damage and range dealt by Focus shot.
F2 MARKSMAN TRICKranger applies random condition on arrow for 3 shots or 5 seconds. Random condition on trigger (poison, burn, chill ).
F3 INTERUPTION – _ranger shoots quick arrow which interrupts enemy.

But what if ranger doesn’t use bows? He can apply things to other weapons same as he would for bow.

a) This is mainly an AI problem -> I don’t think they’ll ever fix this since improving the AI is extremely difficult

b) Use the pet swap / command your pet back to you (I know it doesn’t work all the time but it’s the best tool we have atm)

c) Agree here, Anet should reduce the cast times to make pets easier to use (the animations would look weird but I think usability > animation)

d) I would like to see a new trait to make pets somewhat useful for zerg fights. Something like:

Your pet takes 50% less AoE damage and gains 3 seconds of Retaliation every 3 seconds while in combat.

Removing the pet is a bad idea imo. Yes, it’s an easy workaround but it would make the ranger feel like every other profession.

I respawn inside the enemy spawn/next to the spawn point/below the map quite often. No hacks or leaps needed, it just randomly happens.

Why should they do that?

The players who want to stay on their current server would be annoyed because:

  • months of hard work for nothing
  • match-ups against servers way above or below their current tier
    → no fun since you either farm other players/have empty maps or get farmed
  • your server might be full before you join
    you can’t play with your guild/friends anymore

Players who want to change their server:

  • Free server transfer instead of paying with gems
    → no money for Anet (→ less content for everyone)

The “fresh restart” is a bad idea imo.

Against non might stacking builds the sigil is useless while it’s too strong against might stacking builds.

Think about it this way:

By only using this sigil you completely counter any + boon duration (for might) and + might duration (since there is no point in having might stacks > 5 sec). You also counter any long duration might stacks like sigil of battle or fire field combos. Effects like +5% damage while under the effects of might would also take a huge hit.

All that for only 1 sigil slot.

I like the idea of sigils removing specific boons but they need a much longer CD. Otherwise they completely destroy certain builds / make other builds extremely OP (just imagine a CC-heavy warrior who can remove your stab every 5 secs on hit).

Imo you should play a professions with as few buttons to press as possible and a decent ranged build (so you don’t need to move all the time).

Necro should be the best choice for that. Ranger works too although you need to control your pet to be effective.

Played on both NA and EU T1 for quite some time. The meta is the same (GWEN) with pretty much the same builds (guilds run slight variations of the meta builds). Roamers use the same builds on both servers too.

There’re some differences between server/guild metas (siege-heavy, melee-heavy, ranged-heavy, roamer-heavy) but the builds stay the same.

These are the results after theorycrafting current problems and thinking of every possible outcome or situation that I could think of with these changes; including Restorative Strength with double heal skill, Mighty Defenses’ might gain when blocking with Blademaster, making these changes work for every possible weapon set such as Mace/Axe, Sword/Board, and more!

So… you “theorycraft every possible outcome”… and you don’t bother showing any of that process? Not a very good start.

As for your changes:

  1. Why should Cyclone Axe reflect projectiles? Cyclone Axe isn’t broken in any way, it’s very popular in PvE.
  2. Your Crushing Blow suggestion is OP. Not to mention that it promotes sitting on all of your adrenaline, which we already have enough of with Berserker’s Power, Adrenal Health and Heightened Focus.
  3. Where the heck did you get Knockback on Dual Strike? OH Axe is a damage weapon, not a CC weapon. The biggest problem with Dual Strike is that Whirling Axe currently kind of sucks and Warriors have too much Fury from other sources.
  4. Again, where the hell does condi removal on Stomp come from? I don’t think anyone has ever said “Man, Stomp would be awesome if I could take it in place of a condi clear”. Lower the cooldown and make the animation faster and it’ll be useable as-is.
  5. I think that your Inspiring Banners is a tad bit OP. Warriors already take Banner of Strength and Banner of Discipline in dungeons, you don’t need to make those stronger.
  6. I don’t like your version of Physical Training simply because Axes get Fury from Dual Strike and Greatsword gets it from Arcing Slice. If they were able to get Fury from Bull’s Charge, that’d make those skills even more useless. And your suggested fixes wouldn’t change that.
  7. You’ve basically revamped Furious Reaction into being a one-off anti-burst skill. Also, considering how Thieves play (strong in beginning, weak later on), this would make Furious Reaction a literal anti-Thief trait: it would trigger when they try to burst you down and instantly undo all of the damage and fill up your adrenaline. Furious Reaction is fine as-is.
  8. Your Deep Strike does nothing for Signet of Rage’s activation. Not to mention that it the effects on Signet of Fury and Signet of Might seem a bit strong, considering the typical use cases for their actives (Fury > Burst, Might to pierce blocks). And the Protection on Dolyak kind of worries me, too.
  9. Where the kitten did you get blocking on swords? Sword can already block by choosing Sword or Shield OH. If anything, you should be considering a cooldown reduction.
  10. Your Last Chance is ridiculously OP. Just try putting that on a Hammer or Mace/Shield.
  11. Your Cull the Weak looks to enable permanent weakness as long as you can keep attacking. Too strong.
  12. Your Opportunist would literally make any immobilize into a Stun. Opportunist + Leg Specialist + Sword or Hammer would be way too strong.
  13. Since I don’t agree with your Opportunist, I can’t agree on nerfing Leg Specialist either.
  14. What’s with the random nerf on Sharpened Axes?

That’s exactly why most suggestions never make it into the game. People like the profession they play and think about changes that make it more fun. Sadly they don’t know how to balance these changes properly. If the first 2-3 ideas are already OP or don’t make any sense, why should Anet even bother to read the whole thread.

I’m not trying to be mean or anything but that’s usually how it works. Anets employees only have a limited amount of time to read those threads too. That’s why they need to sort out the OP/weird threads and stick to the “better” ones.

Honestly, dungeon runs are actually pretty slow for gold farming.

The 3 best ways to get gold in GW2 imo:

Flipping
You need to know what you’re doing & you need some gold to start, otherwise it’s not worth it.

Farm runs
I’m not talking about exploits in Orr, etc. (those usually only last for a few days). There’re decent farm spots all over Tyria. On average you will get 15-30g/hour depending on your group size, magic find and luck. I’m not going to tell where to farm though, otherwise those spots would be crowded within a few hours. Google and the GW2 wiki should be able to help you.

Crafting
The regular weapon/armor crafting is not worth it but if you have some recipes which are not available anymore you can get a lot gold by crafting & selling those items. It doesn’t work with every recipe though.

I think that was the point. Warriors are more challenging for new players now while barely anything changes for decent warrior players. Besides that there’re finally consequences if you miss your burst ability/your opponent outplays you (except for that laughably low CD).

No, I think the game is more balanced now than ever before. Yes, some professions/traits/weapons still need a lot of love but compared to 2 years ago it’s much better.

Randomly changing like 80% of the traits would destroy that balance completely. Besides that some traits are great in other parts of the game.

Also, “quickly re-working”? You can’t do that in 5 mins. You need to gather ideas, balance them, implement them, etc. It takes a lot of time to do that, not just change an Excel chart…

1200 → 1700 is quite a lot though (way more than 15%).

I knew about the ele staff fire 1 since it’s at least 1200 range (not including +15% here) + 180 explosion radius (with Blasting Staff) = 1380 range. Sometimes the projectile flies further which increases the range which doesn’t make any sense to me tbh.

Just tried it with my ranger and it works there too…

Maybe they should look at all the ranged AAs again, quite a few seem to be bugged. If they really wanted them to have ~15% more range, all of them should have that bonus. Some of them don’t have it at all while other attacks have way more than 15%.
