Took a break from EB due to the massive queues and ran into the guilds Opp and RIOT in SOR BL. Was refreshing finding some small group skirmishes and had a blast trying trying to take you guys on even solo after my guildies logged.

Opp – bring less thiefs! And that ranger… you must die faster!

RIOT – holy batkitten…. I thought that ranger might die quickly, but I was terribly mistaken. I think he was tankier than the guardian AND the ele.

Saw you guys briefly last night outside either our spawn tower. Looked like you were running 10+ though and that map was a poor choice. Our spawn area was being camped and when we got out we took NW, N and NE camps without seeing a soul. When Choo is on a map it’s just 500 million people in one group and no one anywhere else for SOR. Boring and Talentless

Well, we never claimed to be meta game specialists, we just go where the fights are. I don’t follow what happens to our zergs very closely, but I believe our numbers dwindled as the evening progressed to the point where the SoR and JQ zergs overwhelmed us. That kitten coverage gap between NA Pacific and Oceanics, I tell ya! Good fights last night though, our 10+ (12 at one point for a bit, then back down to our usual 5 or so) had a good time in that BG!

Well I jumped into gw2 late thinking it was going to be my next Dark Age of Camelot. Needless to say I was wrong… I have been disappointed by the lack of other groups roaming BGs like you would see with 8mans in DAoC.

My desired playstyle is not meant as an insult, because I know the amount of planning and coordination that is used in an SF main force, but I have no fun doing that sort of thing… let alone when you have 100+ people in an area and you have skill lag… you want to kitten off a PvPer? Prevent him/her from using his/her skills lol.

If you are looking for roaming groups from BG, check out guilds like RIOT and oPP, they are small guilds focused on roaming with around 5 people. Also as another poster said, if you are looking for small group fights, better show a different guild tag than SF, small groups tend to avoid you because we thought you are just vanguards of a large force.

Yeah, GW2 just does not promote small group fights like DAoC did. Anet could make some simple changes like making group buffs only work for party members or give more “realm points” for solo/small group kills, but I think it is pretty much a pipe dream for small group PvP’ers like us. Tier 1 is very hard to be a small group in, and only the old school, hardcore PvP’ers can handle it.

For those wondering how BG went from having many keeps to barely any last night, and for those under the impression JQ won by simply pulling everything together, let me explain what happened.

Last night around the time the night shift was coming on, there was a report of PRX (From JQ) exploiting in order to take a keep. It was reported on page 24-26. A Mesmer in this guild would get downed, use a skill, and get ported into the keep, they would then drop an exit to their portal and allow the zerg to rush in and take the keep. This was reported numerous times on many different keeps. That is how we went from several keeps to barely any in such a small amount of time. Obviously SoR was going to be saved for last because they were obviously not going to win. This apparently continued until the guild member left. JQ apparently succeeded in sweeping this under the rug because not only was it barely mentioned, but JQ didn’t even bother to find out who the person doing the exploit was. We couldn’t because we were getting zerged down after each exploit. JQ did not win fairly and anyone on last night knows this. This is where the 2v1 accusations are coming from, but that wasn’t the case. It was someone from PRX (I believe) exploiting into keeps last night. The report about it is on Page 24-26, in that range, along with JQ ignoring it for the most part. Congrats guys on trashing the good name of JQ again. But if you honestly believe that the JQ coverage jumped for no reason at all on a THURSDAY then by all means think that. But it goes against every battle everyone has ever faced in WvW.

I myself am simply a solo SoR thief, and was minding my own business between east supply and Hills. I make my way down the back valley towards Hills where i saw a JQ zerg all stacked up under the Vista of the BG owned Keep.

I thought, oh cool im gonna watch this, so stayed back watching and saw the commander was in PRX, and then saw a mesmer jump from above to teleport them in, i didnt catch the mesmer’s tag. I looked up and saw a bunch of BG at the top where the mesmer jumped from, it was the guild HB. The Mesmer died on his fall, which was funny.

The HB crew then went from sight, maybe to engage the JQ below, and the PRX zerg rezzed up the fallen Mesmer. The mesmer then jumps UP the cliff to the Vista and ports the whole PRX zerg up to the top. If i knew what they were doing i would have turned Fraps on.
Very bad PRX, very bad.

Then, about 20 minutes later im walking past hills again and see that its open, so i pop inside for a look around and see FOO outside the Lords room. This was pretty fun to watch until i saw exactly what they were doing. They had an arrow cart to the left of the lord room, and when i say left i dont mean just to the left so he can still view the doorway, i mean way left towards the supply hut. The guy is standing there firing his arrow cart INTO the lord room, obviously killing all the seige that was inside before they rolled in and killed HB.

So, if you win this game JQ, i would like to say grats but unfortunately i can’t as i now do not know exactly how many of those points you have cheated your way to.

Apparently the guy that reported this was from SoR…and PRX are pretty much known to do stuff like this.

Actually, there have been multiple late-game comebacks in Tier 1 WvW, this is not without precedent. Though I can understand your doubt considering Blackgate’s lack of Tier 1 experience. SBI came back from alot further than this in a match with JQ. 14k is nothing really.

I’m proud to still be on SBI even after guilds seeking challenges elsewhere left. Other servers can say what you want about us, and you can act better than us by saying that you’ve stayed strong while we’ve fallen, but we had a really good and long haul in T1. We’re still going to fight as hard as we can with what we’ve got now, and the fights are still as good as ever. That’s what matters.

Staying on your server in spite of it’s T1 collapse is admirable indeed! Blackgate just has more of those types of players. I think I can be proud of my server based on that.

I would be really surprised to hear BG guilds like HB, Thai, Nine Dragon, RIOT etc. etc would pay anyone anything to come to BG. Since you know all the facts maybe you can enlighten us which guilds on BG would give 2k to FoE or AGG. I was under the impression they came to BG because they want to fight and still be able to take days off and not pull 14 hour shifts

I can say that RIOT hasn’t and never will help anyone (other than our own members) move to BG. As a small skirmish guild, we don’t particularly like seeing more huge zerg guilds come to BG. Kaineng and TC in Tier 2 are offering us lots of great mid-sized fights! While we need the zerg guilds to maintain a healthy WvW environment for us (Tier 4 was so dead during the NA evenings that our players got bored), Tier 1 is a massive zerg fest. On the weekends we were often forced to zerg or log out.

That all said, we still wouldn’t move off of BG even if (or rather when) we move back to T1. BG is simply an awesome server, and we’ve never regretted our move to it. I don’t blame these guilds at all for wanting to join us. Let me explain why…

A lot of servers that were at the top have been completely gutted when a few key guilds have chosen to leave. Blackgate is the one server that I can think of that has been bumped out of T1 multiple times, lost major guilds, and still maintained it’s core membership despite these facts. Large competitive guilds like HB, KnT, ICoa, LOTD, EA, Thai, Urge, etc. have stuck together through thick and thin. Guilds on other servers have noticed this, and it makes Blackgate an attractive server to join.

Call us a bandwagon server if you want, but there is a certain solidarity on BG that will survive whether or not we lose or gain guilds.

We are definitely keen but concerned about the quality of WVW in general for when no groups are out roaming. In t1 there is already an active (albeit sparse) 5man scene.

T1 is a total zerg fest.. I’ve played on JQ and SOR ,SOR has TONS of good players (IE TW,KOMF,ETC) its still large groups VS groups. I am all for this and coming from DAOC lancelot the home of the 8man i hope this comes true.

I agree. T2 is the perfect mix. There is action 24/7 for small groups here. We transferred off of a T3/T4 server because at night it was basically dead even for our 2-3 man roamers.

After playing with Yishis, I’ve never had much issues with thieves.

Splitting up the zerg through game mechanics is not difficult at all. The best PvP games have already done it (DAoC). Simply apply the 5 man limit of any effect to party members only. Done.

We don’t like zergs either, but the problem we found in T3 and below is that it is feast or famine. Especially in T3 the zergs were really, really bad. By that I mean there were NO small groups, almost ever. In T2 and T1 there are massive zergs, yes, but there are also a lot more smaller groups. Also, the action doesn’t stop 24/7. In T3 and below there are times when there is absolutely no one online!

For me, T2/T1 is the only place to WvW, regardless of your play style.

First you have to decide which gear you want (which stats you want). From there, you have to decide which pieces you want to get. For PTV, for example, you can keep an eye on the Aurora’s event and buy as much of it as possible with the karma you have. Karma comes easy in WvW over time. Often you can spread your gear out over different ways of obtaining it.

Sometimes the stats you need mean you have to grind out a dungeon for a couple of weeks. Another option is buying gems and transferring it into gold to buy stuff off of the TP. If there is a crafter in your guild, explore that option as well. I make around .5 – 1 gold a day in WvW, so over time I am able to afford pricey upgrades.

If community is what you look for in an MMO, Yaks Bend has the best I have seen in the last 10+ years of playing MMO’s. Truly an amazing group of leadership and people there.

As a guild leader in a small WvW guild that focuses on skirshing, I can say that we are very happy with the fight on this server. This is both due to this server and the opposing servers in this tier. This server has been a blast to play on!

Let’s not defame ND here. They made a move that best suited their guild. It is my understanding that they were very much unappreciated on SoR because of the assertion that the NA towed the line there. I personally don’t care what the conditions were on SoR prior to their move, I am just glad to have them. Our goal as a server is to win Tier 1. In order to get there, we have to take little steps along the way. If no one had the courage to put their faith in something and take the first step, there would be no change in WvW. ND and many other guilds have decided that Blackgate is where they want to be. They are a guild of their own and no server can claim ownership of them, it is up to them to choose what server they want to call home. So let’s cool it with the hate messages. When DA went to SoS, we said nothing negative to them, nor when DiE or Agg jumped ship to them either when we dropped from tier 1. Have some class. Please.

It is our gain and SoR’s loss if they flame ND. All of the GL’s on our old server Yaks Bend, told me that we are always welcome back if things don’t work out well on BG. And guess what, that would be the only server I would ever consider moving back to.

The incentive? You mean like loot or money rewards? Sounds like you are playing the wrong game. The incentive is helping your server win. If that isn’t incentive enough you never played DAOC and got your start playing that other game.

DAOC had realm ranks, which were a pretty strong incentive to keep playing.

Personally I think you are over complicating an issue that is inherently addressed by the systems already in place. Take my server for example, Blackgate. We have a high population of Oceanic players with a subpar population of North American players. Our Oceanic players quite literally carry us as the top T2 server. At the same time, although we often feel like we are out numbered, in reality we aren’t out numbered all that much. People often blow being out numbered out of proportion if they play on a server in their time zone.

Anet has already come out with an official announcement that there will be nothing done about “night capping”. Adapt, or move to a server that has a population during your play times that fits your play style.

I myself still find a lot of fun in group style WvW, especially when our smaller team can take out a larger team. Otherwise, I agree with you. WvW does need some more incentives. I think that the average player in WvW doesn’t study the game as much as some of the players in my guild, or take their gameplay as seriously. The average player wants to get on, have fun, and feel a sense of accomplishment. WvW as it stands doesn’t have much of a sense of accomplishment other than the pride in how one’s server is doing in the current match up (or in our case how well our small group does in a skirmish against a more populated enemy).

Hopefully the changes in February will address this.

To all of you under estimating TC, mark my words: the PINK zerg is fierce. I expect them to hold at least one BL all week during their NA times. it won’t be enough to win the match, but it will be a thorn in our NA sides!
