I guess what we see here is Ranger is fine it is all the other profession that need to be brought down a notch or more like a bunch. You know there is an issue when a the only complain from about a quarter of the profession after a patch was what? An internal cool down placed on a food buff.

Ranger signets are only good for PvE. This way, you can run around and ignore your utility skills.

Only if you want to be reported as a bot. I seriously think that a decent portion of the developers are still upset about all the ranger bot trains and now the ranger community suffers for it.

Not to be “that person” but…

Ranger (n):
late 14c., “gamekeeper,” agent noun from range (v.)). Attested from 1660s in sense of “man (often mounted) who polices an area.”

Range (v):
c.1200, rengen, “move over a large area, roam with the purpose of searching or hunting,” from Old French rengier (see range (n.)).

The “range” part in “ranger” refers to range (v.) not range (n.), so the argument that a ranger is a ranged fighter just isn’t valid.

Some how I think this will get turned into a ‘we need mounts’ after that.

As long as it was only for out of combat swapping it wouldn’t be too much of a balance issue as long as Engineer received it as well. As I am sure that at one point or another most people playing this game with a two handed weapon equipped on the off set has placed one handed weapon there to free up a space for salvaging/harvesting etc…

What if a button existed that could make your pet dodge roll, or gave it evasion for a few frames (no animation!) It could be called the “Dodge!” button

Is that something you guys could consider?
Ranger pets are switchable but for instance Necro ones go on cooldown when oneshotted by a boss.
It would be pretty good if dodging on a pet class also made the pet evade.

Only if spirits are give the ability to move on their own and can fight, but then Guardian will want that for their spirit weapon and we are in a slippery slop there.

Empathic Bond - Please reconsider

The issue I see with empathic bond and really most of the condition removal (well most utilities actually) is that they are counter productive or go against the idea in which ranger is based. Healing spring forces loss of mobility to get the most out of the heals condition removal.

Looking to face a lot of condition options hope they land while you pet has enough health left to take it and/or the cd on switch is up. Or we kill the pet, reducing the overall effectiveness of the Ranger.

Empathic Bond change was bit of a slap as a grand master trait. If that its the kind of balancing we are going to see I for one want to see the other professions hit with similar changes, such as but not limited to Signet of Power (thief) reduced to 1 stack of might, and a general increase in cool down on the other profession signets.

Perhaps a middle ground approach for it would be to have the pet remove (not transfer) 3 condition every ten seconds.

Gotta say, I’m just kinda sitting here hoping that they’re just going to push out all the ranger changes at the same time so we will live them forever…

Maybe we should send them a cake, it worked for necros…

I’d think at this point they would assume that the cake is trapped as that is one of thing Ranger is decent at.

Out of curiosity, in sPvP forums were any of his posts about rangers? I know I’ve read several sPvP forums that mention viewpoints on profs and the like.

Please realize I’m just saying this as in sPvP forums are more general and as such should be looked into more, I doubt anything ranger esc will be said there.

My god I wish our utilities get the update they mentioned in October, we have the most dull utilities in the game…

Just a thread on the second page with a video of orb running and some comments about swoop and hornet’s sting being used for movement. Give it time hopeful it will get buried and Anet will not feel the need to adjust those skills because of an objective in a Spvp map.

A little more transparency would be appreciated, but no one is ever happy with a nerf, but it can lead to better acceptance of the change if they where more clear on the whys of those changes, that and maybe if they handed out some more of those changes (nerf/fix) across the professions.

Sometime you just have to take the nerf… er fix when it happens. So far whenever a tool tip is incorrect the reaction seems to be place it at the least adventitious value so if a tool time said a duration/range of 5 and the game has it at 3 just see sooner or late the tip will be edited, but if a duration/range of 3 and the game has it at 5 then that ability is going to be toned down to 3

It is, I just had to pin down some thoughts about the pet that’d make it more…enjoyable.
Appearance
It’s weird in a game where we can choose the look of our armor and weapons with the appropriate stats, yet the pet has to look like…whatever. I’d like all pets to have a setup of choosable modes. For example power-crit, condition, tank-support. so I could run high dps wolves, and not be forced to run cats or birds.

Not sure that the Devs would go for that as it would change the meta as knowing what abilities are with which skins is a part of play.

Maybe instead of trying to be brought up to a place of semi-equality with other profession, maybe we should instead be asking for the other profession to be brought down to the level of ranger.

Good examples increase all class mechanic have a built in failure rate and are given a long animation that roots them in place while used.
Increase the cool down of all thief signets at least to 60 second and some up to 120 seconds, make warrior’s deployed banners have a hit point total and be target-able for destruction. There could be ones for every other profession.

Maybe the plan is to strip the Ranger of all ‘overpowered’ (read not working exactly as the text says abilities top priority) then once they have this fixed, but weak profession they now have a large stick to keep the rest of the community inline as Ranger is the example of what can be done to any profession at anytime.

I doubt we will see that as it could be seen as a sign that someone in development was wrong and it would confirm that the change was in fact not a fix, but was because the Developers found shortbow too strong compare to the other Ranger weapon or that they just wanted to hit the Ranger bot trains.

I read the title in the voice of the Professor from Futurama, Then the next thought was ‘Bad New Everyone: Natural Healing nerfed now only effects the pets as per the text. Signet of the Beastmaster now works with Signet of Renewal and the Ranger will also transfer all conditions from allies nearby onto the Ranger, cool down increase to 120 second to be more inline with ranger signets. Search and Rescue cool down increase to 165 seconds to be morn inline with other reviving utility skill.’

Of the reviving utilities Search and Rescue has the shortest cool down I guess that is part of the ‘balance’ with ranger skills.

Reminds me of when FFXI was doing something like that only it did some letter counting stuff so charming would be censored which was funny because that was the proper term for gaining a pet in the wild with their beastmaster job.

Some of the problem from what I can see is the community (generalizing) does not work well within the multi-guild system as numerous guild grouping feel the need to require constant representation in order to remain a member.

Also, I think emphatic bond was tested and it doesn’t pass them on to your pet, it just says that they do, I never tested it myself though.

Now you done it someone is going to read that and it will become yet another lackluster trait for ranger.

Ha well it’s been mentioned a lot, it’s the only reason I knew it myself as I just assumed it worked as read. I do know the pet still needs to be near you, as with the signet. If the pet is out of range you’re stuck with the conditions.

Cannot Dye Transmuted Armor [Merged]

I’m having a similar problem applying Sky dye to my transmuted t1 Sylvari armor – originally exotic Knight’s armor to which I applied the t1 Arborist appearance. Interestingly, my Arborist armor came with Sky as one of the default colors, but the color disappeared once I transmuted the piece. I then bought a Sky dye on the trading post, but Sky only shows correctly in the dye mode pane and is removed once I close the pane.

Having the same issue and I have Sky dye and it won’t reapply at all.

I have even tried to re-eye my arborist set with Sky (as I happened to have the dye in the bank), but that still get replaced by remove dye.

I think it is the transition statement (paraphrasing here) of everyone has ideas of how to my there profession super powerful. Then mentioning warrior dual-wielding greatsword, or mesmers or anyone wanting tactical nukes. So it isn’t difficult to with the general feeling some of community has about Anet’s comments that wanting the pet/minion AI improved is like asking for aforementioned nuke.

but sure, get all defensive and be fan boys. I’m sure ANet is really grateful that you guys are sticking up for them, and basically dismiss every feedback they receive. You guys should get paid for what you do, really.

That level of hostility isn’t going to get you anywhere if nothing else you make yourself seem like yet another of the Ranger=Archer only “fan boys” that are bottle necking themselves and the perception of the profession because Longbow isn’t the ultimate snipping weapon.

There are issue with many of the weapons for Ranger (as well a other professions) but the title of the forum does not fully match what the original poster was trying to get at. Perhaps a change in title is in order.

I’d be happier if they address the whole if you lose line of sight that the birds start to be obscured even if the skill start find. that and if you are blinded the whole skill will miss not just the first hit.

just a passive, guard and a asist button that controls the state of your minions would help.
also all minions should regen when out of combat not just the flesh golem.

As stated before that controls like those would be overlapping too much on the ranger class mechanic, and would only be a matter of time for the guardians to demand the same for spirit weapons as well.

Thoughts on signet

As a nearly universal game mechanic there is large discrepancy between the signets and traits supporting them. Mostly the fact that ranger is the only profession that need a grandmaster trait just to have the signet active effect affect themselves.

Discrepancies within the signet themselves.

Signet of Renewal has a 60 second base cool down the closest parallel is the guardian Signet of Resolve while is a heal on activation has a base 40 second cool down and can be traited to have remove two condition every ten seconds.

Signet of Stone cool down 120 second. Passive 35 toughness for the Ranger 120 Toughness for the pet.
Active: Active: Your pet takes no damage from attacks (for 6 second). Parallels: Warriors’ Dolyak Signet grants the Warrior 90 toughness passively and can be activated for 8 seconds of Stability. For an active parallel we have endure pain that is a 5 second take no damage skill, that also breaks stun, and can be traited for addition duration on a 90 second cool down.
Guardian’s Signet of Judgement passive is by far the best in this general type of signet with a flat 10% damage reduction, a 20 second cool down and an angry active for such a low cooldown.

Signet of the Hunt: So far the only signet with direct cool down equality for recharge however the active ability is a cut and paste of Attack of Opportunity and is not label as such. For active ability similarity there is Assassin’s Signet for only an addition 15 second base cool down affects give 5 attack at 15% additional damage.

Signet of the Wild long cool down similar passive as the warrior’s healing signet only weaker and with a much longer cool down.

Trait discrepancies. As it needs mentioning a second time a grandmaster trait is need to have the active effect of signet apply to the ranger and with that Signet of Renewal is not modified in the least as the Active effect is not one a Ranger would want to have.

Beastmaster’s might 1 stack of might for 5 seconds after using a signet, is a Master tier trait. Signet of Power Thief Adept tier 5 stack of might for 5 seconds after using a signet. Ranger signet cool downs are one at 30 second, one at 60 (that will likely kill the pet if activated) and 2 at 120 second. Thief signet cooldowns shortest 15 seconds (heal) and longest 45 (with the ability to reduce the cool down 20% and gain 2 initiative for one trait).

The quickness buff from thief (Haste) and warrior (Frenzy) both break stun and have the same cool down as quickening zephyr. Are those now defensive abilities?
