Right, and probably because of that, no other weapon ability gives you more than one clone per cooldown, or in the case of scepters, autoattack rotation. I didn’t specify but I was referring to weapon abilities and skills and not profession skills.

Why Not Dual Trait Like WoW?

The answer is obvious. This isn’t WoW.

Not to say multiple builds wouldn’t be nifty for your profession. Traits are surely a hassle to swap out.

Also, there is a party searching system, but for whatever reason, people just don’t know about it.

Besides the set bleed, poison, confuse, are there any conditions that are class specific? I know mesmers get a “buff” when a mantra is charged and gaurdians get a myriad of self buffs, but besides the standard conditions are there any class specific ones? I don’t think so, which is why “Mind Marker” wouldn’t work as a skill and would be more applicable as a trait imho, although I believe there is already a similar trait out at the moment.

Also, are there any skills that automatically give you three clones? If your Mind Pierce is a success, you would instantly get three clones. Other abilities which are similar make a clone appear on the first hit, or the last, but never all three.

I would love to dual-wield pistols as a mesmer but I’m not sure these abilities would work out. Great idea, needs some work imo.

To be honest, it’s too soon to really say that. As the game is only a month old, overall realm wealth is generally low. It’s our job to generate that money through the means given to us. We don’t start the game with money in the bank.

When I first started playing another certain MMO, 500 gold was a lot of money. I mean, a LOT of money. I was rich then! By the time I stopped playing in preparation for GW2, it was a drop in the bucket compared to what I had amassed over the years.

Honestly, you need to be real. That’s all.

It makes sense not to be able to change those to me, or at least, it is justifiable.

But hair accessories or accessories in general? Definitely should be able to change them up as you go along. Pink is so last season, anyway.

As a side note, since I knew you couldn’t change accessories before hand, I chose a style that was accessory free. That shouldn’t be the solution, though.

Gw2 need raids

ANet promised that what you are doing while leveling will be what you are doing at max level, so Pawlegance is wrong on that count. They said end-game starts at level one. Did you watch that video? Or did you watch a video for WoW?

I do think there should be more to do in general (people already have 100% map exploration, there IS a lack of minigames which is subject to change, and once you’ve got 80 on one toon it isn’t particularly fun to just start from ground zero and do it again on another profession) and I think there should be more ways of fostering a community.

I think raids DO force people into that gear grind (whether cosmetic or otherwise, really) and that is not fun. Personally I am doing just fine without raids. Something that is more challenging sounds nice but then you open another jar of worms when people go to do that stuff and it’s “too hard”.

Sure there are people who won’t find it TOO hard or challenging. Now you have a divide between elitist and casual players, which was often a problem in other MMO’s and does not foster a friendly environment for all.

I think the cons of having raids way outweighs the pros.

Maybe it’s just me but I cannot seem to preview armors before buying from the BLTC.

You can preview items already in your inventory or before you select a quest reward or selecting dungeon or karma gear but I am pretty sure that is it. We should be able to right click to Preview something before we buy it from the in-game auction house.

I know what most light armors look like on females but I have a male Sylvari mesmer and have NO idea what anything looks like on males, except for the things I have already worn.

The only image galleries I have found have every single craftable and dungeon item set as seen on females. I haven’t found any with male images, except peoples personal character screenshots.

Sets can look drastically different between the two genders (what looks like tooth floss and a paperclip on a female can look like you know, a real robe on a man) so it would be great if I can “try before I buy” so to speak.

Oh, another thing, it would be awesome if there were more options for rewards from Renown vendors besides recipes and gear— gear usually becomes obsolete just as quick as you got it, and the weapons all look the same as everything else— perhaps more unique skins or even flavor items like more potion rewards that turn you into things or have more effects. Just fun, random stuff that might pertain to the Renown task but have no other function in combat but are still entertaining. If that makes sense?

Branwin.4609

Hey everyone, I have a suggestion for future additions to the game and was wondering to see if anyone else shared the sentiment or had anything to add to it.

I am having a blast playing the game and I am enjoying roaming around completing renown tasks and exploring the PvE environment. Although the quest mechanics are in my opinion not particularly ground-breaking, they are good enough for me and I am having fun.

One thing I noticed, however, is that once you’ve completed a single zone (entire map that is), for the most part, you know what to expect task-wise in the future. To fill a heart you kill baddies, collect something for the NPC’s, destroy enemy supplies/buildings, etc. The options are nice but after a while you know what you’re in for.

Every now and then you come across a “unique” Renown task which might have you jump into a golem suit, turn into a Treant, etc. and those are fun also.

As a completionist I like the way the map system is set up and how organized it is at keeping track of your progress. It works for me.

The NPC’s for the most part, in my opinion, are just not that interesting. If I feel like it, I can go and ask a few questions to get an idea what is going on in that area but for the most part I can skip it and just start killing mobs to be on my way for Renown task completing. The NPC’s have little to no personality, do not add much to the back story or lore, and are forgettable.

I understand making each NPC a unique snowflake is hard to do and don’t expect miracles. But there are a few zones I have glazed over and do not remember much of because there was nothing that exciting or memorable about the NPC’s or things to do in said zones. My highest level character is level 56 and I do not rush through zones so I know I am not speeding through and missing much when it comes to DE’s and things like that.

Today I’m questing in Blazeridge Steppes and came across a couple of Asura who are studying the harpies in the area. Upon my arrival I helped an Asura named Wark who was making a perfume to attract harpies. He ended up being kidnapped by a Veteran harpy and every time we went to rescue him, the harpy would take him and relocate. All the while Wark was full of quips and thoughts and almost all of them were hilarious.

Wark is probably one of TWO NPC’s outside the main NPC’s revolving around the personal stories that I will ever remember. I also liked the event because although it was more or less a DPS race to kill the harpy and save Wark, the relocation element of the fight made it just different enough from the other events to stand out. The other NPC would be the drunk Norn chick near the bear shrine in the Norn starting area. “You found the bear cave! Let’s celebrate with fighting!” Just because her voice is so funny (and not the same as all the rest)

In my opinion future Renown tasks should be a little bit more thought out. The NPC’s should be a bit more memorable and the events should be a little more varying and interesting. The potential is clearly there and it would be nice to see them taken advantage of. If we’re doing the same stuff at 80 as we were when we were leveling, spicing it up and going above and beyond could potentially increase replay value of certain zones.

Summary:
-I am having fun with renown tasks but I could probably be having more fun
-Tasks are of the same variety we have seen before and although not all of them should be overhauled a few hearts per zone that had you doing really epic, non-standard tasks would make zones more memorable and interesting, plus could potentially increase replay value.
-NPC’s are mostly randomly generated and it shows— they are not memorable and are boring for the most part

I’m not sure what kind of impact you think MF really has, but it truly is minimal. Stacking loads of Magic Find does not give me bounds of loot more than when I don’t use it. It is not necessary, pivotal, essential, etc.

Drop rates already have diminishing returns if you stay in the same place for too long. Such is the case for botters, who are often stationary and spamming the same ability. Magic Find isn’t what set that code in motion, botters did (with or without MF).

Also, diminishing returns affect everyone, whether you are a botter, a Magic Find farmer, or otherwise. I have to disagree with your belief that magic find is what sets reduced loot drop rates in motion, simply because we all already know why.

Wasn’t their big thing that there was no end game? And people are shocked? I was following their progress in making this game for quite some time.

It seems to me people are trying to bring the WoW mindset and playstyle to a different game. MMORPG means multi-massive online role playing game, not grind your life away so you can get that one item or stat that makes you a fraction of a percentage better than everyone else until your gear is obsolete and you have to do it all over again.

(For the record, that would be a GYLASYCGTOIOSTMYAFOAPBTEEUYGIOAYHTDIAOA)

If you are under the notion that an MMO must abide by that play style and strict notion of “progression” you’re the one playing the wrong game. The whole point of GW2’s content is to give us something other than that endless grind. I have not done anything in-game that I have considered a grind. I have nothing to prove to anyone else and I could give a flying kitten if you have stuff that makes you just so much better than me.

To add, while optimizing your build and putting the right stats on gear is your cup of tea, it is not for many people. A lot of people came to GW2 because of the claims that there was no more grind for gear. I do agree that bringing MF to a dungeon is not fair, but that is not so much Magic Find’s fault as it is the person using it.

Please Magic Find responsibly.

I am not telling you to quit the game by any means, because to me that is not the solution. When I said I do the things I like, and I ignore that which I don’t, I was referring to specific features, not the game as a whole. No one should be deterred from doing things they enjoy (ie playing GW2 in general w/o delving into each and every specific pro and con)

Like I said before, MF is not game breaking in any way. It can be an annoyance if you see it that way for sure, but it’s not that bad. If you’re concerned about playing in dungeons with people who might “betray you” and use MF for “greedy, selfish gain” then I suggest making friends in-game and running dungeons with people you know and trust, and who have the personal skills to complete the dungeon. Keep in mind, this is a game, and not Days of Our Lives, so I doubt people using MF have betrayal and connivery in mind when they use it. Selfish? Yeah, probably. But it is what it is. I’m not playing for you or for anyone else, I am playing for my self.

I also don’t think you NEED MF to get any decent loot. I do think that the loot system could be reworked (a veteran or champion dropping less than a regular mob is most definitely discouraging and extremely irritating) but, again, it is not game breaking.*

I have a damage dealing set, a support set, and a farming set for my engineer. I tend to switch my traits around (missing dual spec) and I personally enjoy farming. I go from node to node and kill mobs and partake in DE’s along the way. MF, to me, is a nice bonus catering specifically to me as a farmer/crafter and it condones and encourages me to keep doing what I enjoy doing.

I enjoy MF and farming so I use MF to farm. I don’t enjoy PvP so I tend to not partake (I only participated to complete my map and it took some time) but do I think that PvP should be taken out of the game, like many people on this thread have suggested (or protested for that matter) for MF? No. I just choose to ignore PvP.

I apologize if you think I was encouraging you to put the game down completely, that wasn’t what I meant at all.

  • I forgot my point. Prior to using Magic Find on a specific set I use for farming, I found all kinds of things varying in rarity but not as often. I think it’s a perk stat, not a necessary stat if you want to find all the best items you can find.

Out of all the features they boasted the personal story was the one I was least interested in. It makes my character out to be something different from what I had in mind when I rolled them to begin with.

I rolled a sylvari necromancer with nothing in mind but the idea that they were a counter to the dream and more specifically, the Pale Tree. Undeath and plague interested her and that is why she calls flesh minions and employs poisons to get at her enemies. There was a part in-game where you go in disguise to disrupt the nightmare court, but there were options to help the nightmare court. Unfortunately, this did not alter your “personal story” but rather gave you a damaging debuff. Boo! I like my necromancer anyway, even if the personal story is forcing me in a direction that is not that personal in my opinion.

I know this doesn’t help when you’re out in a hostile environment, but it’s at least something, and different from the other races.

But I will say this: It’s leatherworking, NOT leafworking. The whole idea behind the sylvari “attire” is that it is sprouted from the sylvari’s very body, it is not something that is picked off the flora around them and sewn together to make their clothing. There was an interesting blog entry about it pre-release. With that in mind, it only makes sense that you can’t make armor from foliage by crafting.

An elementalist in heavy armor would be suh-weeeet, or even a necromancer in full leather bondage but you have to think about it from a game design perspective. Mechanics wise it wouldn’t work when they are using the same guidelines as what is standard in MMO’s.

Personalized loot solves the problem of fighting over gear, so that would be a weak counter-argument to your question.

Not only would it not work mechanics-wise, but also lore-wise or common sense-wise, even. If a warrior can do 200 damage with a greatsword, and your thief can only do half or less, and you are constantly failing, why on earth would you be using a greatsword?!

The thief archtype is not one to use brute force, just like an elementalist in heavy plate would have issues moving. Stereotypically, but not always, a caster may have great mental and magical prowess but be lacking physically. In my mind I see a mage in knight gear falling over every time they try to take a step. Que shenanigans!

Does jewelry display on the character?

in Players Helping Players

Posted by: Branwin.4609

Branwin.4609

No, however, I think this is made up by the fact that many armor pieces are extremely detailed and embellished. Some chest-pieces have brooches or pendants and often times around the waist is a belt covered in knick-knacks and stuff. It would be nice to have custom bangles and necklaces and stuff but from a design perspective I don’t know how well it would work. It takes a lot to generate the setting, enemies, your character and allies, etc. with all the fine details, I can imagine adding super small details would just fudge it up even more. The armor designs are beautiful, and I love the fact that they are mostly unique, unlike games like WoW that use the same template for armor and then just color it differently or reskin it. Not to say there aren’t reskins in GW2, but it’s less noticeable in my opinion with all the details.

Although it would be nice to rock some serious bling.

Branwin.4609

Hello! I’m a low level leatherworker (my only craft atm) and so far I am enjoying crafting and discovery system despite what some naysayers are naysaying. To each their own!

My question is this, as I gain more levels in leatherworking and begin making new stuff, will I be discovering new skins different from what I’ve been seeing? I am only level 108 leatherworking. I am a level 45 engineer and I chose leatherworking because my playstyle revolves around aesthetics and collecting gear that I like the look of.

One of my few disappointments is the seemingly lack of variety in the medium armor I stumble upon out in the world. I’ve completed many zones, and loot many mobs and check all heart vendors and I’ve seen the same 3 or maybe four skins. When I look at what light and heavy armor these vendors have to armor, they are starting to become distinct and unique at mid-levels while the medium gear more or less looks the same.

I love the dungeon skins and some of the cultural armor, and I am not saying I dislike the medium armor I’ve seen so far, but I am just curious if any high level players in either profession or craft could tell me what to expect gear wise. Variety is the spice of life after all!
