DELUXEEEEEE VERSION Purchased : )
Your speculation is null and void. The majority of those people are still going to purchase the game.
I love how everyone in the livestream on guild halls today shut up about $50 dollars being over priced after they shown the content today. Completely tone changed in minutes, so funny.
Those of you who bought when they had the FAQS up stating that you would need the base game to play HoT do have a moral case. Possibly even a legal one. The number of jurisdictions that GW2 sells in means that it could be a legal nightmare for them if they don’t act soon. I am pretty sure that in Australia the ACCC could slap them with abig fine for that sort of thing.
Those like me who have had the game for years only have jealousy as an excuse to complain.
You have no clue what you’re talking about. Read your terms and conditions when you pre-purchase the game.
You aren’t paying $50 dollars for the core game, you’re paying $50 dollars for the expansion, which is completely reasonable. Just if you’re a new player, you get the core game for free (beneficial for the community as a whole)
WoW for 3 years= $540 USD (Subscription Fee) Not Including Expansion or base game cost
FFXIV for 3 years= $540 USD Not Including Expansion or base game cost
Guild Wars 2 for 3 years = $60 USD base game cost + Heart of Thorns $75/50 USD=$135/$110
I’m happy. This is why i’m happy.
Played lot’s of mmo’s. 50 dollars or more is about average for expansion prices of other mmo’s. Some with less content.
Second, Anet is correct in saying in the Faq that you’ll need the core to play the xpac.
Third, I know i’m not paying for the core a second time. It’s “FREE” apparently that’s a hard concept for some people.
Fourth, when has Anet ever released sale details ahead of schedule. We knew that the preorder was coming. We just didn’t know what was gonna be part of it. Core game “FREE” with preorder. I look at it as a bonus/sale that i have no use for.
For the people who never played mmo’s before. This is throwing them for a loop. This isn’t a steam game, this isn’t a console game, this is an mmo. The amount of “FREE” content that anet delivers is unrivaled by most other mmo’s.
If you don’t want to buy the xpac. I’ll cya next year when anet puts it on sale for 10 bucks. The nice thing about this game is, you can come and go as you please and not feel left out.
FREE: adverb
without cost or payment.
You literally do not have any information on the amount of content going to be released with HoT as compared with other games, so you are lying.
The FAQ was anet gouging more money and lying.
You literally ARE paying for the core game again.
It is NOT a PRE-ORDER, it is a PRE-PURCHASE, the two things are exceedingly different and you should google them. You are PRE-PURCHASING a game that you have no idea about it’s content or release date.
I sincerely hope this is troll because if so 10/10 and if not I feel really kittenin bad for you and every one who agrees with you.
You feeling bad for someone who is investing their money in a game that they think is worth it is what I find hilarious. It’s their money, who are you to say where they should or shouldn’t use it? I’m satisfied with the free content they’ve given in 3 years, more than exceeding money expectations. I’m more then willing to give another base game worth of 3 years of content, thank you. You must have some complex to degrade people and feel sorry for them about a video game, get some help man. Your internet Warrior Spirit is crying.
Its is possible to pre-order and use te core-game, yep
Not sure if my question was understood. I’m asking if they can use the core game “that comes with the pre-order” right now. This is actually not related to the whole debate going on right now. I’m just trying to find out how the pre-order works. (Though pretty certain I’ll just be telling everyone to wait for now.)
Yes, they can play base game immediately.
I just got the DELUXE VERSION! I’m so stoked, guild halls look absolutely amazing! $75 dollars is a small price to pay for a unsub game that is better than any sub MMO I have ever played. With all the content they’ve given me for 3 years? Well worth it.
WoW for 3 years= $540 USD (Subscription Fee) Not Including Expansion or base game cost
FFXIV for 3 years= $540 USD Not Including Expansion or base game cost
Guild Wars 2 for 3 years = $60 USD base game cost + Heart of Thorns $75 USD=$135
Obviously, this game is best for its value. Its also imho, best MMO on the market.
The self-entitlement is unreal. All the content they’ve given people over the past 3 years and asking for kitten price for a expansion is COMPLETELY reasonable. Whoever said its not worth the money its ridiculous and get off your high horse. People pay more for a WoW expansion+sub (recurring sub mind you), FFXIV expansion+ sub (recurring sub mind you) and this GAME isn’t even sub. Everyones acting like complete children who can’t dish out $50 dollars for a expansion for a unsub game that is the BEST out there. These people make content for your enjoyment without being greedy for 3 years, now this. In 3 years you would have spent $540 dollars in WoW or FFXIV + w/e their expansions cost. Give me a break.

Practically 3 years into the game and still no merchandise? What happened to those T-Shirts we voted on….yeah..not holding my breath for this one.
Come on we waited 3 years for 1 expansion this is even higher than the World of Warcraft waiting times lol (its 2 years there) and the funny is that after this elder dragon there are 4 more that means at least 4 more expansions, so the players who are 40+ years old might not even make it till the last expansion if it continues so slow. Will Heart of Thorns be released this year at least?
You must not know WoW very well. It took 3.1 years for BC to come out after Vanilla and to be fair it hasn’t even been 3 years of this game yet, at least not for another 3 months.
That post is a fantastic one and shows why ANET’s communication policy is hurting the game more than helping it. The information is at a lack of a better word, snail pace.
After ANET hyping it up, I have to say I ENJOY this much more than conquest. I can see the build diversity taking play in this by defending, running supply, and being on offensive teams. Their view on minute to minute game play is perfect in this game-type. The downside is the current conquest meta’s having to adjust to this new game mode and having to deal with the disconsolate statements in subject to change. Overall, great map so far, I can’t wait to learn new strategies and see what the community works with. Let’s see how it plays out by playing it and giving a more in depth analysis.
P.S. The NPC voices can get annoying after the same phrase being said over 1 minute is a bit much.
There’s tons of information on how the new borderlands (For Heart of Thorns expansion) are going to be replace the current borderlands, they got walkthroughs already on twitch and the like. Start reading the blog posts ont he official site to follow through. In terms of PvE content, if its been a while you have a kitten ton to catch up on, many things have changed for the better and the addition to content.
Pointless debate, the game would be vastly different if they started with a Pay to Play method, they’ve made the game it is now because of the Buy to Play model they’ve adapted. So everything else is extraneous hypothetical that isn’t mirroring how the game would be changed, just how it currently is.
This company has shown little information about the upcoming game, its starting to worry me like none other. They said things were suppose to be moving quickly but they’ve released little to none information about the game thus far, just things we’ve already known and no real detail on anything outside of the DEMO from PAX. All I been seeing it rehashing of information we’ve known for the past 2+ years. First time I’ve ever been able to say I’m bored with this game and only reason I don’t want to leave is to keep my guild from dying (which is sad).
I’ve given my email address to ANET for the newsletter but I have yet to receive 1 single mail telling me anymore about HoT since January? What gives?
You guys always do bug fixes at reset, wouldn’t it be easier to load bug (new builds) fixes at the end of the week in bulk so we don’t have to keep getting inconvenienced in whatever we’re doing (Tequatl, WvW, ETC)
What the patch gave is great QoL things but the bugs..this is the most bugs I’ve ever encountered in a patch by them. Its ludicrous
People forget EOTM was a giant testing ground and was a place for people to play for queued timed, it was nothing serious in the first place. I AM TOTALLY on board for this new map, everything sounded super fun and what you take MATTERS in a whole different way. Super excited, can’t wait <3
The design decisions to make silk (a lesser material) worth more than a higher tier material “Gossamer” makes no sense at all.
Alas, they didn’t tell us or show us anything we didn’t already know about the mastery system. Nevertheless, they really did show off part of the zone and hang gliding which looked AWESOME! The whole zone, the enemies, looked pretty sweet. All in all, I’m satisfied with what they showed.
Twitch chat was god awful though, what else is new?
http://www.pcgamer.com/guild-wars-2-heart-of-thorns-stronghold/
Doesn’t seem this is tuned for GvG afterall, kind of a disappointment really. Looks like they’re just aiming to make a new PvP mode for the already PvP based community since conquest isn’t working. Lamesauce. Thoughts anyone?
I see SW and Drytop full all the time. I don’t see where the deadzones are coming in, and also I think they’re brilliant design for players to keep coming back to them.
Clearly, you’ve gone past the Point of No Return, you’re within to the point where you’re actually labeling and name calling me like a someone would if they’re feeling threaten with logic and reason. Get a hold of yourself man, this isn’t productive for a thread at all. They’ve shared no concrete details of the expansion yet, the same reiterated details in every other interview. I’m done with this thread, take care.
So The ranger being able to turn into a druid through specialization is not a concrete detail to you? Might I add that the ranger will be able to use a staff?
I believe Brimstar used a poor choice of words. No one is arguing you are not using concrete information, they are arguing you are using incomplete information.
Thank you Rin, yes, major incomplete information is a better word.
I never said it would be broken. It seems you refused to read anything else beyond that point. All I have been saying is that this is not an expansion. Its not big enough.
I have no clue how you can say its too small to be a expansion when they have released no details what-so-ever about what the expansion and only feature names. Unless you have found these leaked documents somewhere and have already over-viewed them? If so, please cite your sources. It sounds like you’re only catastrophizing a subject where you know nothing yourself. as they have shared nothing, not even a release date. I deduce this thread is toxic in itself because assuming before something happens is bad as the bible trumpeters predicting the end of the world.
Did you not watch the PAX announcement or read any interviews? There are loads of details on each feature from many interviews. Colin didn’t stand up on stage and say “guild halls, stronghold, Maguuma region, masteries, specializations, wvw map” He said those things and then gave a few examples and details. OR was your fanboy meter passed 11 and couldn’t comprehend anything other than big words?

This thread hurts to look at.
As a guy I don’t like when people say “It’s too small”.
XD LOL

I agree, kitten price tag is ridiculous. Big PvE changes , but hey pve needed fixes and I say this expansion is a fix because it adds things to the game that should have been in the game at release.
1 new structured pvp mode. 1 new wvw map and no alterations to existing wvw maps.
$10-$20 reasonable price
$20 dollars? For 2 1/2 years of hard work, this is a completely unreasonable price. I think you’re really ball-parking super low, at least it will be $30 dollars, at most $60 dollars (standard edition with original game included ). To credit this, the staple price for most brand new expansion packs are priced around $40 USD.
SO you think that they have been working on this expansion for 2 1/2 years? It may have been hard work nonetheless , but (read my post again). Should have been in the game already.
and No, brand new expansion packs can be priced from a range of $10- $40. Why should we settle for imaginative staple price if what we are getting doesn’t even give as much as (insert other AAA MMO here). Why do we compare? We compare so companies compete against each other for better quality , and quantity. Why was GW2 made? Id like to think that GW2 was made to reinvent MMORPGs , but now GW2 is slowly going back to the old grindy MMO way. Conservative community’s fault I believe.
It’s completely valid to compare prices because if anything else is we can take away is that prices are extremely accurate representations of how much to expect a expansion to be priced at. Also, this should have been in the game already? How can you be so self-entitled when they are a company that is providing YOU entertainment and 95% for free? Get off your high-horse man, you have insane expectations when they’ve already provided you with free content for the past 2 1/2 years without a sub fee.
How is Guild Wars 2 going back to their grindy way? Their philosophy was to never make require something to grind for that HAD to be BiL (Best in Slot) Its extremely easy to get a full set of exotic gear in this game and to attain money which anything more Ascended holds a little to None % gain and isn’t needed for anything but FOTM. If anything is grindy is cosmetic items. I’m going to quote someone else here because they explained it perfectly.
Vodcom.6924 explained it:
Some people clearly need a recall :
An MMO is considered “grindy” if one has to repeat a small set of simple and uninteresting tasks in order to reach the level cap and enjoy the “end-game content”
Having objects or rewards that require grind in a game does not make it “grindy”
In GW2 the end-game content can be summed up as : dry top + silverwastes ; megaboss ; living world ; dungeons and fractals. Of all these only fractals of level 10+ require ascended equipment. Thus one with exotic gear can access 100% of endgame content since you walk through the same fractals at level or 50 (only the difficulty changes).
And GW2 gives you tools to bypass the leveling process for your alts (exp tomes + skill scrolls + gold to buy traits).
With that in mind, one cannot possibly claim that GW2 is a grindy MMO. The ones who do either :
Want everything handeled to them immediately without breaking a sweat.
bash the game for the sake of bashing Anet/the game.
Edit : I’d also like to remind you all that ascended tier items were added because a vocal minority (not pointing fingers here) asked for something to grind for once they’ve finished the game.
Give me a MMO that doesn’t have a level of grind, you won’t find it.

I don’t feel this way at all. I’m more than satisfied with all the free content they’ve given me for the past 3 years. I will gladly back them on this up coming expansion by getting a collector’s edition. They delivered + more in todays panel, what else can you ask for or be pessimistic about? Seriously.
Thanks ANET, grats on a very successful livestream of the PAX South Panel
If you wanted a more detailed explanation, we’re in a war in zone with Mordremoth’s Minion’s, in the silverwastes. Tomorrow the Pact are going to assault him head on and it’s going to be a finale of some sorts, you should log in and see. : D
All because your guild can’t do it doesn’t mean it needs a nerf. My guild does this easily, so there’s 2 different stories to this event, what now do we do as a developer? Nerf? Or see if this player can learn the mechanics and learn the rush. There’s learning curves as a reason. If you guys need help learning the run properly, message me in game.
Lots of people are busy playing the game, in their own parties, talking to their own guilds. This is common in any MMO, doesn’t matter the population on the map, people are in the area for a goal and not to hub chat like in cities.
I agree with Legendary Cartographer, I was hardcore into these titles in Gw1. It works so well in their game that they value exploration.
If you can’t afford 200gems “2.5USD”..there’s something seriously wrong in your financial life (unless you’re a child). They literally give you the option to get the content for FREE by logging in for 60 seconds or less every 2 weeks. You think its unreasonable? I think its completely reasonable as the price is barely above 1 dollar NEXT to nothing. You can go outside and find this amount of change on the ground for searching for a hour. They give us content 99% of the time for free and the isn’t bad that they monetize something that is a extremely low cost (You do realize this is a company?) There really isn’t anything else to say, is you sound unreasonable yourself. Now whether these episodes are worth it is all opinion based, one person might say it is and one might say it isn’t, everyone holds value differently, so you will never get a right or wrong answer until you play it for yourself.
(edited by Brimstar.9036)
Like he, said, the amount of content/changes are too many to list. Check the release page to check on in past things. From my personal opinion, the game is strong and better then ever.
that does not sound prety good……..
Don’t listen to these guys man, if anything the game has gotten way better since release.
The new Living World Season 2 as opened up 2 new zones, great replayable story and nearing it climax soon. The 2 FEATURE packs that were released “one last September” and one “last april” were amazing Quality of Life changes that were needed to be made. There’s to many changes to list and there’s opinions on everything, yet the world definitely feels more lively and they’re setting it up for something big..you can feel it. There’s been a buttload of content, if you want to know about what that was/is, check in the releases page.
I see myself taking more and more breaks the past 6 months. Any finally recently, I decided not to play until release days. The game doesn’t really offer me much to accomplish anymore, in PvE at least.
I’m Lvl.50 in FOTM
Full Ascended Armor, Weapons, Trinkets with 2 legendary weapons made.
Done all the dungeon in the game probably over 1000 times.
Completed Teq, 3-headed wurm achievements, mastered them.
I have 5 lvl.80s all pretty much maxed out.
Again the game has nothing for me to learn anymore or strive to beat, accomplish. So all in all, I get bored very fast.
The only thing I see myself coming back for is PvP, since I haven’t hit max rank yet but still there is a progression in skill in this aspect in the game that I enjoy. The rest..has been pretty vacant for me..for like 6 months. The releases are great when they put them out but it suffers from the same problem (new zones) as any other MMO, the content gets played to death and the treadmill they put on the new armor sets isn’t something I’m very fond of.
Anyway, don’t log in unless its release day and new content to be offered.
If there is no expansion announced in early 2015 I probably won’t continue playing. LS was a nice distraction, but the endless cliffhangers, the slow release on content, the terrible pacing, and the lack of anything meaningful for 2.5 years has wore me down. I may come back if Anet ever gets their act together, but I’m fairly certain they’ve re-tasked the majority of their devs to work on another game at this point.
I beg to differ man, the amount of content they have released in 2 years is a feat for any new MMO. Also, to be noted, even the Titan of MMOs World Of Warcraft ( See what I did there? : D) did not release Burning Crusade for 3 years after release.
If you call http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Release this lack of anything meaningful for 2.5 years. I don’t think you’re playing the wrong kind of game. Take care bro.
(edited by Brimstar.9036)
Hey, ANET go on facebook and check out a FB game called Knight’s Fable, they’re using your artwork for advertisements and using FF artwork as well. Just letting you know..
Its the fact that logging in shouldn’t be about a reward, it should be what you do to get a reward. That’s my gripe, and opening a new way for people not to really play the game but earn rewards, isn’t about THE game but logging in (not doing anything substantial , and a bribe). I agree with the “Daily changes” that are made and its a great QoL but I don’t agree with the logging in “rewards” its like giving a participating medal to those who ran the race, it doesn’t mean anything but everyone got one anyway to make you feel good. It leaves something stale and bland in my mouth that over-saturates the already over-rewarding reward system. In short, more focus on on core elements of the game like “participating with your guildies gets you X instead of logging in gets you X” would of been a better implementation that promotes game play with others.
In the meanwhile Anet has to think of how to keep an expansion work without touching the max level cap. I am really curious how they are going to do this.
factions, nightfall, and eye of the north did not touch the level cap
Oh yeah I know the old team could do it. That team was pure awesome. But there are none of them around anymore
There are tons of them left over man, I don’t know where you get your information from but its fairly easy to accomplish “leave things the way they are and don’t provide a higher lvl. cap.”
Yes, we need it. We need content. The industry’s standard is ‘deliver and deliver and deliver till they choke on it!’. MMOs do this, GW2 doesn’t! They don’t listen to what the people want, the player base is getting smaller and smaller, people already forgot about this game. The income is getting worse and worse – just check the report from NCSoft. All my real world friends left since there was and is not much left to do. And it’s like 2+ years.
Where is your metrics for this game getting smaller and smaller because there is none that exist, since their is no sub fee. All because your friends left the game doesn’t mean the game has gotten any smaller.
Really? This is a thing? You really are going to have the options to reward people to login instead of actually playing the game for rewards? This is in my honest opinion a terrible idea and needs to be considered for evaluation. What say you forums? I understand the reasoning behind doing this (to attain higher login rates/sales) obviously but the real issue is the people who don’t find the need to play the game to actually earn rewards, which is unfair to the people who participate in the community and actually DO earn rewards by playing, contributing something to the community.
The juggernaut’s liquid metal colors are affected by the ambient light in the zone, not necessarily by the dye you choose, though it can have a minor effect.
