Just to add a bit of perspective to this as a former Engineer (from launch) who finally got the hint and rolled Warrior, here’s a Rifle Warrior.
That video was hilarious and very well edited. Thank you very much for making it.

Engineers are mid range combatants. They have the ability to start a fight at a distance, but they shine at around 600-300 range were they are out of reach of melee and can make the most use of their skills. They can maintain spacing and the tempo of the fight if played properly, and bring a lot of control. They deal damage at a steady constant pace, while their various control mechanisms keep foes from fighting back.
Except when your foe has:
Stability, invulnerability, evade, teleports, shadow steps, leaps, pulls or superior ranged damage.
The only time you will see an engineer perform “good” is when you are watching a video of someone killing confuzzleds\baddies in WvW.
Ever seen a video of an engineer having a really good balanced fight against someone or is it always the engineer blowing people out of the water with it’s uber static build DPS?
IMO Engineers don’t need HUGE buffs to be “normal”; we just need changes to 50% of our skills/traits.

Normally a thief would have an advantage because someone wouldn’t see “TheCombo” coming. The thief didn’t have the advantage here because he was already seen.
The only thing that comes to mind here is: “C-C-C-C-COMBO BREAKER!!!”
Read the fine print. ANet never said only thieves can instagank!

Multiple classes have better survivability; direct damage; condition damage and niche utility.
Tell us one reason a group would want an engineer for their 5th if they could pick any other class?
I know exactly why they want mesmers, guardians, thieves, necros, and elementists in PVP.
I know why rangers, and warriors are good in PvE. [I personally find runs alot more effective with both of these classes present (omg I love your ranger’s 15s water field! blast finishers & leaps)]
Whats the point if we don’t inherently do anything significant?

Playing Tournaments are the fastest way to get glory.
Winning tournaments gives so much glory, you’ll never want to play sPvP again.

I fear that this game isn’t going to be focused very much around supporting your allies. Healing is almost completely out of the question. The best you can most likely do it remove conditions and keep yourself alive so you can Rez your dead teammates.
Combining all the engineers small heals can give a nice chunk of health back but it requires others to stack on you which is never going to happen in this highly mobile game.
I focus on my own dps and keeping myself alive while eating incoming damage. People complain that I’m not dodging “the bosses hardest hitting skill” and I tell them I’ve got toughness and healing power; I don’t need to dodge like a glass cannon.
And I am always the last to die. But I can’t save anyone else’s life even if my life depended on it.

Grenades are useless and too risky for keep defense when they are knocking at your door.
It was pretty dangerous pre-patch because they can pull you off but now the risk doesn’t outweigh the rewards with the lowered damage.
Bombs hit pretty hard and maybe the good ol’ flamethrower through the wall might do the trick with sigil procs.
Toolkit is always fun for ensuring at least one fat kid doesn’t get away. I usually take the trait to lower the cooldown because gear shield has a VERY short CD. [around 15s]

It would have been nice for them to tell us super elixir was broken so that we don’t grind gear to build around it.
If it was broken I would have invested time and gold somewhere else.

Engineer DPS via Grenades:
3 projectiles when traited
Ground targeted skill
Flying projectile that takes time to land
1500 range that will always miss it’s target [except WvW]
Hard to hit your target when out of melee range while trying to strafe
Needs nerf because targets standing still are getting hit too hard by 3 grenades
Thief DPS via “logic”:
Instant teleport into melee range that does 3k+ crits
Pre-combat elite skill on 45s CD that stuns you for 1.x seconds when hit
Highest single target DPS to abuse you in seconds [12k in 2 seconds]
More ways to go back into stealth than the number of times you’ve read the word “kitten” on the forums.
More teleports than any other class
More evades than any other class
More loved by arena net
Needs to be buffed because Engineers had a slim chance against them pre-patch; can’t take any chances

Now my full set of exotics is absolutely completely USELESS.
Not only was my class nerfed but all the gear with healing power that I spent my time obtaining is no longer any use to anyone unless I run around the level 40 zones healing lowbies.
How can they even call the engi versatile?
We have a bunch of situational skills that are only barely helpful in PvP\WvW.
I cried during my fractals run a few minutes ago; couldn’t save anyone’s life; just ended up getting melee’d by bosses during my futile attempts of mitigating 5k hits with my 150 heal/s x2.
I’m going to play around with this broken class for a day or two more before throwing in the ashes of the towel that I burned out of frustration.
[Is there any way to get a refund of $60 and amount of time invested in healing\tough\power gear?]

Does anyone know if the monster AI has some sort of trigger when you place a turret?
I haven’t studied it but I have noticed when leveling [8 weeks ago] that they will instantly switch off you and nuke the turret.
Does anything control this; such as armour value or spike DPS done by the turret?
Would be nice if there was a way to prevent instant turret destruction by bosses. Always a funny sight when every turret dropped by the supply crate is instantly destroyed by one AoE.

Turrets without a CD if you pick them up > 50% CD if you blow it up > Full CD if they are destroyed.
With that said; no turret should have more than a 30s CD.
I would love to fit turrets into my PvP\WvW builds but it really hurts when you drop one and the other person runs away: instant waste of a 50s CD for the rocket turret.
Imagine chasing a thief and being able to use the trait to throw your turrets!!

Wow everyone is so cranky in this game.
IMO the players that were there first are entitled to duel or not duel.
When you are playing on a BBall court; whoever is there first decides what game is being played. Even if they are playing on a half court; no one can come along and kick them out because the court was meant to be played 5v5 using the full court. analogy shattered
By all means; do whatever you want when you join a server; but don’t expect your team to back you up when you start getting smoked every time you leave your base.
I wouldn’t call you names or anything; I’d just constantly duel YOU every time you tried to leave home base. If your “team” (which is really my guild in my personal case) on the opposite team doesn’t back you up; you’ll have no choice but to leave or duel with us.
It sucks but theres no reason for either side to be a puppy about it.

If people are dueling you should let them out of respect. [yes you can respect people you don’t know]
If you want to play 5v5; go back to Mists and look for 8/10; or 9/10 and join. Problem solved.
Not every player has an attitude and will call you a noob and onslaught you with insults just because you started capping points. Almost every player will insult you if you disrespect them or call them wrong for dueling when THEY WERE THERE FIRST.
I’m not saying either situation is right or wrong; it just is our current situation thanks to ANET. Both parties should respect each other and skip the name calling and finger pointing.

Would be awesome if they were water fields. Retaliation is nice in PvP since you know your going to get hit but in PvE the whole game is about not getting hit so Retaliation is a complete waste of a buff.

We are the class with the least amount of equip-able weapons.
We want reliable options in terms of damaging our opponents.
We envy all the classes that get to use the weapon-swap sigils.
Elementists deserve to be the only class locked into using 1 set of weapons because they are OP.
Please punish them.

I’ll usually run in and drop smoke bomb > toss flame and concussion bombs > static shock [another blind] > drop a couple normal bombs [AoE hit for 800 each] and then be a complete waste of space in the group :-/

Zero Angel called it exactly.
The only time heal bombing is successful is in PvP if you want to bunker a point.
I can steal points from guardians by knocking them back with shield and BoB and they have no possible way of killing me 1v1.
The greatest thing about bombs is that they really hurt and are impossible to avoid on all the smaller capture points. They either have to get off the point or eat the damage and die a slow 60 second death.

In my experiences Bombs are useless in WvW.
In a group fight; you are going to die extremely fast if you run into their group.
In a 1v1, no class goes into melee range except for thieves and guards. [Not sure why they are so chicken; we’re only engineers!]
My spec uses healing power/power/toughness but I dont use healing bombs in wvw because no one has a reason to melee an engi if they can damage you from range in turn increasing survivability.
In PvP bombs+elixir are pretty OP because you have to stand in the little circle.
WvW is all about movement and extreme burst DPS.

My Engi has been pretty successful against mesmers. I can’t recall fighting someone with your skill at the class or maybe I’ve been lucky and evaded the majority of shatters :-)

The mine is awesome for controlling your enemy.
Being able to throw down the mine and splode it when needed is awesome.
Good for point control and running away.
I no longer use it because I found an awesomer build but its always fun knocking people onto their butts.
And nothing is more important than fun.

How are they “bound” to see it?
Developers are perfectly capable of ignoring feedback.
How are they not? They obviously read the forums.
Whether or not they reply is their choice.
When you browse the forums; are you more likely to click a thread with more replies?
That generally means there’s a conversation going on between players.
If there is a conversation happening; that means there is usually valid player views on both sides; not just someone running their mouth that isn’t getting their way.

They indeed fixed the bug but I still constantly catch myself spamming the 1 key when breaking doors or trebs!
IMO you shouldn’t even post on the forums solely to get the devs to respond.
The forum should be to spark convo with your fellow engineers and if a thread gets so much attention from our community; they are bound to see it and put the issue on their team’s radar.

I was in a 5v5 hot join and a mesmer was teleporting 10 feet every single second.
Of course the player that was doing it plays dumb and says “come on you guys 56k is outdated”….
{I had the most points on my team and we won, so I sure wasn’t lagging}

What if someone wants to test a build and it turns out to be a very bad setup? That player now has to sit in the match and have no fun.
What if someone joins a 5v5 match and it isn’t fun because no one is working together and they are getting stomped and rez camped? Shouldn’t be penalized because you weren’t matched with a good team of players.
What if there is someone in the match that is being rude [not a rare circumstance] and you reaally don’t want to listen to this guy anymore? You shouldn’t be penalized for leaving.
What if my daughter hurts herself and I have to drop group or afk to mend her wounds? Daddy duty calls and I shouldn’t get penalized for being pulled away from the game.

They made 5v5 because thats what is used in tournaments.
Randoms leave and it sucks but they don’t need to waste any more time changing room sizes when there are bigger fish to fry.
I’d like to say the official answer is “Suck it up and wait for customs.”

As I played a few matches it was clear that 5v5 rooms are only good to take your team of guildies\friends in to work on your teamwork. There is absolutely no teamwork when randoms are involved. Mainly because you cant talk to them on the fly.
You can waste time typing but nothing is going to keep a random from going rogue.

Played 4 tourney matches yesterday and happened once to my team.
Happened 20 minutes before the update closest to 8PM EST.
I got stuck first when I died due to the treb. Not sure how my teammate got killed but he got stuck 20s later.
EDIT: Never happened to me before the patch on the 15th by the way.

You mesmers have been spoiled for far too long.
Try playing an Engineer and having to fight a thief who constantly goes into stealth and teleports behind you. Every time I try to use a skill and he teleports\stealths…it goes on the full cooldown without the skill firing.
Even if there is another person standing in the exact place the thief was when he disappeared; nope no effect; skill fail & on cooldown.

I disagree with the title. I ran almost nothing but Tool Kit for the last 4 hours in WvW and it was amazing. The new pull almost makes me feel OP.
play mesmer, theif, gaurdian, etc. everyone has pulls.

I’m a bunker Engi with 2k toughness and I was like “wtf?” And the Elementist was like "bbq! "

If Warriors are the best DPS class; why do we only see about 50% or less of tourney teams using them?
Pretty sure they are the least played class atm due to them not having as many fancy tricks as the other classes.
Most people aren’t accustomed to fighting warriors because there arent too many out there. Try playing as a warrior for a few dozen games and you will notice a huge disparity compared to the other classes you will be fighting.
tip: don’t use a stun break unless you see what their other weapon is. Hammer warrior puts out 1k auto attack crits but the attacks are slow. I
If you see him\her pull out a greatsword or rifle after s/he stuns you; MOVE really really quickly.

Pokemon takes waaay more strat and is more fun than the current guild wars PvP.
How can a company balance 250+ pokemon but anet can’t balance 8 classes?
Even the legendary rare as heck pokemon can be beat by an ordinary everyday pokemon you caught in the wild if they have the right element\race.

Can you add a normal banker vault as well?
That way we can jump into the Mists from any location when we finish PvEing rather than going back to town go drop off PvE items.
My warrior carries 4-5 weapons in PvE & PvP and carries an extra set of armour in PvP.
Would be awesome if I can toss everything in vaults on the same map.
I hate when I go into the Mists and sign up for a tourney then find out I forgot my shield in the PvE vault. x.x

IMO:
Any class can beat a thief, but only if you are setup to fight one.
Problem is thieves aren’t the only class out there and aren’t the only class that you will be fighting so you don’t bring tools to solely counter the 1 thief on the opposing team.
Case#1 – On my warrior I can use hammer + shield&mace to take on any class out there but I will not win against any class without the proper utility skills. Against melee classes I can take whatever I want but against ranged classes; I need to take condition removal so that I do not get kited.
Case#2 – On my engineer I run a p/p condition build and get nuked by thieves unless I use a shield and carry elixir S [to avoid damage for 4-5s] and use the toolkit [extra 3s block; confusion & caltrops]. And to top it off; this only counters melee thieves.
If it is a bow\pistol thief or a condition thief that uses caltrops to ensure I don’t create distance; I am done for.
In tournaments; I have never had a problem winning a 1v1 fight [50% of the time their backup arrives]. Thieves are the only exception. I’m usually not prepared for them if they are guarding the point because they don’t sit on it like other classes.
They usually jump from behind a bush.
All in all it comes down to playstyle and understanding what the thief is built for and can do.

Melee thieves aren’t hard to deal with if you have 1700 toughness and a mace+shield.
Block the initial barrage of attacks and use the mace’s counter skill then try to CC them.
I’ve started using this build yesterday and haven’t had any problems.

Yes it is very annoying fighting thieves who constantly pop into stealth but they can still be hit if you know where they are [behind you]
If they are a pistol stealther; just run away; honestly not worth your time.

I’ve been getting my butt kicked until I started using a shield. Blocking their stealth attacks really kicks them outta their instawin groove.
I use a mace for the stuns and extra block and haven’t been killed by a thief since I started using it.
Usually they will try to run. Usually they make it out alive :-/
