… okay i was wrong there is ONE weapon with 5… doesn’t change my point in the slightest (and no underwater weapons doesn’t count either)
Dagger
Sword
Greatsword
Staff(after HoT)
All have five, with most of the others having 4 after HoT.
It would be interesting if they did the normal instancing and overflows based off of guilds. So “guild versions” of the maps would be scaled higher and the events would be group based. You could even incorporate a “Alliance” feature where friendly guilds would get the same instance.
This however would create a segregation issue, among guilded players and non.
The purpose is to prolong the feeling of the player “Getting Lucky”.
B2P with expansions + No cash shop is best.
Sub-based with no cash shop is second.
B2P+Expansions is unsustainable, unless they released paid expansions every few months. Which then might aswell go $20/m sub and free expansions.
Sub is a dying breed sadly, and can be sustainable but also risky. This is why so many sub based games go F2P.
They keep these events scarce for a reason. If they had a perma SAB most would get bored and never use it, so releasing it every once in awhile keeps the hype alive. The simple fact you made this post and people asking for SAB is proof of that. It saves them from having to continually create events.
Please don’t link Deviantart, it causes my ADD to kick in and spend 3-4 hours looking at random kitten.
E: His scenery ones are well done with a good color mix.
If I had $1m I would put it in my savings account.
One of the better suggestions then those who would just blow it. However savings accounts have one of the worst RR in regards to investing. Diversify in IRAs, Bonds, or take a chance with stocks.
Why do people insist on asking questions when they rule out the most plausible answer.
Kind of a meaningless question when you negate one of the main aspects.
As above poster stated, they are sold by the crafting vendor, they also cost laurels and gold(5 laurels and 3g) per piece.
too bad feelings in some replies
little quaggans are so cute, like the little asura u will find inside their school in the asuran starting zone… i love them ^^
i’d love to have the chance to unlock the “quaggan lover” title, let me save them from some bad guys and then i can gain the title ^^
To be fair to the Quaggan my disliking mostly has to do with them making me go underwater to help them, which I despise. Also if I have to hear “The quaggans can’t do this aloooone” one more time, then I might have to agree with the above poster about quaggan farms.
Not to mention a quaggan steak does sound tasty…
Quaggan need to fall to natural selection.
Everyone that posts that you only need acsended gear for one aspect of the game can f off, if it has higher stats, it’s the best gear and it’s needed everywhere. Apart from that, I don’t bother trying to get it, time gated crafting and crafting grinds in general are no fun at all and running the same instance with a bunch of kittens every day is even less fun. I’ll just keep playing WvW and get a drop a year maybe that I won’t be able to use and just stay close to a zerg so that I wont run into one of those lucky idiots who post drops all day with a stupid smiley face after every sentence who seem to have stuff dropping at their feet just by logging on for a minute.
I wouldn’t care at all how long it would take or how difficult the fight would be if doing the fun content was a reliable way to get the best in slot gear but having to do bland content for the best gear to keep up with people who mostly do bland content but slum it in your neck of the game once in awhile to show off makes me want to log off and stare at a wall.
Want and need are two different things. Simply because it has better stats doesn’t make it a requirement hence not needed. Any aspect that stats really matter are normalized or scaled, Ascended really only has an impact on PVE and is somewhat needed in higher level fractals. So yes it is only NEEDED in one aspect. The idea that you need the best gear outside of fractals is just in your head. You want the best gear but don’t need it.
“Fun Content” is subjective, you mention WvW zergs which some might find bland and meaningless, in the same way you might find dungeons boring.
Your post sounds more like a jealous rant about drops then anything, or about people who link ascended chests(which usually are just trolls). You seem to only want the gear because someone else has it.
(edited by BrooksP.4318)
Ascended should be buffed and majority of content should be balanced based off of exotics. Higher level fractals should be balanced based off of ascended gear outside of just agony resistance.
The adverseness to the “gear grind” is silly and actually false in how people use WoW style for comparision. Gear grind is only an issue if gear becomes redundant based off of new content. So when WoW released a expansion(usually raising the level cap) or a new area it made old gear useless and balancing of new areas needed better gear. This is what made the “gear grind” seem bad.
However in GW2 they don’t have plans to raise the level cap or balance things based off of higher tiered gear, which means even if they boost ascended it wouldn’t be needed and exotics would still do fine. If people are upset because they have the mentality of “needing the best”, then that is their own fault but doesn’t make the game a gear grind.
High level fractals I believe should be the only exemption to this. Since high level fractals already need some sort of ascended gear, balancing should be done off of ascended. Ofc they also need to add in a way to get ascended via fractals outside of just drops.
In short. Ascended could be buffed and it wouldn’t matter, GW2 isn’t designed the same as WoW and the gear treadmill isn’t required and is only in your head.
I’m actually surprised that you can’t reliably get ascended via running lower level fractals. I mean ascended is really only needed for higher level fractals, so it would make sense from a progression standpoint.
Ok, so why should the people who got into the beta be “compensated?” It’s seriously unfair to award those who were lucky enough to get into the beta with material rewards. This needs to be fixed.
Because betas are used for testing, and beta testers use their time and effort to check issues for Anet.
Beta testing isn’t usually about whats fun or even about the content. Its usually boring and tedious stuff. This is why testers are sometimes compensated.
Its also a mentality issue. You see it as “unfair” because you didn’t get in, you see it as “unfair” because they get to see the new content. This is why marketing betas have made normal betas useless. People think they are entitled to them, and those who do get in them don’t actually test.
Why?
Seems like a entitled mentality to believe that you should get into beta, or be compensated for not getting into beta.
I do agree however that those who got the DD version of GW2 should get the upgrade, but seems odd to request it because of not getting to a beta.
That wouldn’t make much sense, though. If what the OP is describing is true (and while applying what you said above to it), that means that the RNG punishes playing for a longer period of time, which would discourage long-term players. I doubt ArenaNet want that.
When it comes to favoring new over old players, devs will usually focus more on new. The longer a player plays, means they are already hooked or are close to burnout, without streamlining new content burnouts are generally unavoidable(even with new content). Keeping new players playing however, is much more important.
It wouldn’t be a surprise nor do I think its uncommon in MMOs to increase “RNG favor” for newer players to get them hooked on the game, then subtly bring it down to a standard level.
Now if GW2 does this is doubtful, but wouldn’t be surprising.
Without auto generated content or player driven content, you can never have a “no grind” game. Anything that is repetitive will become a grind, regardless of what it is.
Race doesn’t matter outside of cosmetics and initial storyline. Pick whatever you like the look of.
What’s fun and not boring doesn’t help much, since it is subjective and is based off the player. What’s fun for some is boring to others.
Damage wise the highest potential damage is Ele, Thief, and Warrior I believe, but that is mostly highest potential burst damage, which is also dependent on length of engagement. Sustained damage will do more overall then burst in longer engagements, so it really depends on what you want to do.
With how vague your request is, the only thing I can recommend is to search gameplay videos for the different classes on youtube and see which one you like. Also don’t be afraid to try a few out even if you end up deleting them. Since banks, currency, and “important” items are account bound, you don’t lose much outside of time trying out different classes.
The gameplay concept behind DT and SW are good overall, and really how I think most maps should be. Especially with GW2’s quest and event mechanics, having maps build up and degrade based on events. However with DT the map itself is so poorly designed and confusing it makes people utterly despise it.
SW on the other hand is a decent mix, the map could be done abit better, but really once you get it explored it is actually quite simplistic(outside of the far north part). The only thing I would change about SW is having bandit chests only spawn during timeout, but thats more a personal beef then a flaw.
There are so many skins that don’t require gems. And you can get transmutation stones from multiple things ingame. Dailies, sPvP. World completion. Or earn gold and convert it to gems. There’s hardly any grind in this game compared to games if the past. It’s such a cakewalk.
Playing the game is not grind. The only way you’re gonna get instant gratification is if you get a single player game and use cheat codes
This game, from a MMO standpoint, is pretty much the epitome of instant gratification. There are no barriers to content, you can switch from spvp, pve, wvw instantly, there aren’t restrictions or penalty for switching builds, etc. As you stated the only real grind is cosmetics.
Now if this is good or bad is subjective, it works for some but feels stale to others.
@op
This game should be treated like a F2P because it runs a similar model.

randomization is a working method to get valid empirical results. It is not that hard to understand really. Beta access is not something given out for funsies to the players, but, as the word beta test heavily implies, to test things. Another concept that isn´t really hard to understand.
While correct on the first part, the second part not really. Most public or open betas are usually about “funsies”, at least from a players standpoint. They are commonly just used as stress tests and not so much for actual beta or bug testing. Since by the point where they do public betas, most issues are known and are already under internal testing and fixing(or ignored).
Most likely this is a stress test on events in a SW/Drytop style PVE map for HoT. Hence the choice of RNG and that RNG being gained from those maps.
Just make it purchasable through the SW vendor if you own that episode. A temp and relatively easy fix until they get around to fixing the quest.
E: Missed #2 idea, so yeah the same as that.
Or shes your half sister. Skin tone is a male dominant gene.
That won’t stop it.
The ONLY way it will stop is if NO ONE who plays GW2 buys gold from them anymore.
That’s the only way it will ever end.
No amount of inconveniencing players will solve it.
It would also be very annoying to be out in the world fighting and aiming an AOE and have that pop up come up and interrupt me. Or block my screen and make it so that I die.
So I wouldn’t opt into it. It’s much easier and better for the game and economy to report the mail. Not let it return to sender.
This isn’t true. Gold sellers will infest any game regardless of buyers. They are in games where there isn’t any way to transfer funds, like WoT. Their goal is really to hijack accounts, not really sell gold.
My Elementalist, only character I’m willing to use wings on(which doesn’t show in character select).
(edited by BrooksP.4318)
Or that reporting gold sellers=auto ignore
What weapon do we get?
Harpoon Gun.
Even if Anet did go more of a gear progression route, it wouldn’t actually effect most players. Unless they raise the level cap or create content that requires better gear, then the gear you have or can attain as a casual will not be affected. WvW is only place where gear progression might have an issue, though that could be easily worked around.
There is none. The only thing that can be seen as “end game” is cosmetic collecting and achievements.
They are revamping the trait and skill system as well. So if you don’t use SP for forging then they literally have no value anymore. Added to the fact they are being switched to forge mats, there is no other uses.
E: Using SP scrolls for alts will be dead, but it all depends on how the new system works on if that will even be an issue.
(edited by BrooksP.4318)
Gear treadmill doesn’t really exist unless you create locked content based off of the need for the new gear(making old gear redundant). sPVP is normalized so gear has no impact there, and WvW can be normalized due to scaling. So unless they expand on the Fractal ideology of requiring gear to advance, then having different tiers isn’t a issue.
However giving more incentive to either getting multiple sets to explore different builds or creating better gear to give something more then just cosmetics for people to “grind” to, can help with longevity of a game. Having gear equality only creates stagnation.
It’s as if ArenaNet were trying to make people stop playing GW2.
Or they noticed people where already stopping playing, which caused this change. Cosmetic only grinds can only hold for so long, this isn’t surprising nor all that bad.
No. Stop. There will be no more gear grind. Legendary weapons are the only legendary. Stop. Delete thread. Thanks.
Gear grind only matters if content is built around the increase, or buffed gear is created around content. Otherwise having better stats is no different then having different skins, neither are needed/required, and where stats do matter everything is normalized.
Of course. Because we don’t need to play this game.
Still, playing under stat disadvantage is no fun.
Stats are usually normalized in anything where statistical advantages would even matter. It also wouldn’t become a requirement for Fractals/Dungeons/PVE, the increase isn’t enough to warrant that.
Current legendaries could be buffed even more than what they are now, and they still would be no where “needed” for anything.
I was confused on why this didn’t exist either. Also the limited stats it gives is also odd, considering how much they seem to want to be in Esports.
Create a Guild Based Arena.
*Set up similar to normal sPVP, but different number combinations(3v3, 5v5, 10v10, etc) and arena style added.
*Wins or Higher ranks will give points/currency/addons for your Guilds Stronghold.
*Ranked will give higher rewards than unranked.
*This arena style can be used to settle certain engagements in Guild WvW.
Guild Worlds/Stronghold
*Your guild stronghold will be placed in a PVP zone along with a set number of other guilds.
*Guilds will be matched based off of avg size, avg AP, etc. Anet could also monitor guild activity to match based of off peak hours.
*Maps will last for 1 month then “reset” rematching guilds on new maps.
*There are no friendly to all NPC factions or areas..
*The world is a mix of dynamic events, NPCs, other PVE entities.
*Completing dynamic events helps expand your guilds territory. Granting you resources, money, and protection.
*Resources will be used to expand and improve your stronghold.
The idea is to make a pseudo-sandbox within the instancing limitations. While it utilizes similar aspects of WvW it should be designed to be more like a sandbox version of GW2, which would incentivize players to “live” in there.
In short giving meaning and purpose to PVP and create a PVP “endgame”.
E: Realize now this thread seems more directed at sPVP, where as my contribution wasn’t. My Bad.

Things that aren’t designed for 3d, usually don’t do well in 3d.
The game has excellent 3d vision, such as the mouse cursor being depth aware and the skill combat damage actually floats above the target.
Yes looking through some stuff shows it does, I was wrong. Usually games aren’t designed for 3d usage, just turning on 3d Vision in some, just causes massive issues.
You could look at http://www.guildwars2hub.com/features/previews/experiencing-guild-wars-2-3d which gives some info.
Things that aren’t designed for 3d, usually don’t do well in 3d.
Anet should just make a buyback system for gem items. Give back partial value in gems of acquired bound items(boosters, charges, BL trader stones, etc).
Is there a way to view the scorecard from the last match in spvp? When the match ends I rarely get time to really look at it prior to getting ported.
The WoW hate is strong, though misguided and hypocritical. There are many aspects within GW2 that originated from WoW/EQ2, simply ignoring those while vilifying other ideas because “don’t wanna be like WoW” is short sighted.
The issue with GW2 now is it lacks progression, whether that be gear, dungeons, etc, cosmetics can only take you so far. Without some form of progression or player influence on the game, it will eventually lead to stagnation. Judging by the content of HoT so far, even the expansion will cause a plateau for older players quicker then most other games expansions.
While I do not think GW2 should add in a gear grind or gear gated content(even though it already does), the idea of improving/expanding legendaries or ascended should not be completely ignored.
The amount of loot that is given is ridiculous and not needed. If 90% of the loot at 80 is either salvaged or vendored/sold at mats value, then maybe it should primarily drop money and/or mats. The amount of item drops also makes crafting a non-valued profession outside of ascended.
Having to mess with key bindings, macros, and getting Artificing(to compress Luck) just to deal with loot, might hint that something needs changed.
Or just have a “check availabilty” option before having to finalize.
The UI designs are very well done, and much needed over the current.
Bunch of hipsters.
Because beards were totally invented by hipster fashion, amirite?
P.S. Sorry, mods. Accidentally hit report instead of reply. Please ignore.
Should also probably relax, its the internet.
