Steam Controller Steam Controller Steam Controller
How the hell did you people get to page two and don’t mention it, the thing is coming out next month..
Because unless someone beta tested it, noone actually knows how well it will work, it will probably have the same issues with any other controller in regards to GW2.
It use to give skill points which could be used for MF items. Now it really does nothing, at least until masteries come out.
Tbh I feel for the OP. The one thing that I utterly despise about GW2 is the fact they have a leveling system in the first place. They have this beautiful game world and a decent event system, yet they have the unnecessary leveling system and leveled zones.
Personally I try to speed through the leveling process so my character isn’t limited due to relatively poor and restrictive class system, then go back and explore the world. However even with the rebalancing of level scaling many areas really aren’t a challenge, which does make it somewhat boring.
Wouldn’t gaining buffs also speed up the leveling process? Increase X stat makes killing mobs quicker, vitality or survivability buffs means less downtime, etc all of which speeds up the process.
The debate is really over keyboard/mouse vs controller. If console gamers were more adapt to using a keyboard and mouse for their console it wouldn’t be much of an issue. However modding the controls to work on a controller is much more problematic. Especially for a game that isn’t designed around the use of a controller.
The only way I can see GW2 going to console is if it was without controller support. Which would make it almost meaningless since most console players have a PC one that can at least support GW2 lowish requirements. Not to mention the outcry of console players for the need of a keyboard and mouse.
Have it so that player interaction, such as long term defense and/or sustained event completion, would allow for either the construction or destruction(if ignored) of said train/airships lines.
I’m down, I could fulfill my lifelong (GW2)dream of being a bum hitching a ride from train to train across Tyria.
only item that can be considered slightly ptw is the watchwork mining pick but since anyone can buy it with in game gold its fine
Watchwork and the copper salvage item. However the gold to gem conversion isn’t the best excuse against p2w, because the gem to gold aspect can be considered p2w, though it is somewhat “balanced” and irrelevant overall.
So boosters are considered P2W now? Some of the most useless items I’ve seen in MMOs, it’s no wonder Anet gives them out, since I doubt anyone actually buys them.
The chance of a ascended weapon is not high (have 2 from many hundreds of runs) but they look good.
While obvious personal opinion, I never found that the Teq Hoard weapons look good. They look like every other Ascended weapon just with a black and green color scheme. Tbh all ascended items armor or weapons look bad, like they were rushed.
E: I guess bad isn’t the right word to describe them, generic would be more fitting, like they where suppose to be placeholder models.

No to everything with the exception of mounts
The argument against mounts is funamentally flawed and these posts continue to spring up as a result.
Waypoints is a folly excuse because if that were true then the entire swiftness and 25% movement buff system we have in place should be removed. There is literally no difference in moving 33% faster with swiftness than moving 33% with a character reskin. Furthermore carpets, drills, and brooms already exist and the gliding system is a form of mounts in itself since there will no doubt be a variety of gliders.
There literally is no excuse or argument that can be held up for the removal of mounts. Thus the posts will always be made and the white knights will always swarm as I’m sure some knights will attempt to attack this post since it requests a change to there so called perfect world.
Gliders really don’t count, they were added as a way to add depth to the new multi-tiered zones.
Though I won’t add more since you already stated “my opinion is right, and anyone who argues is just a white knight” so I’ll refrain.
I’m pretty sure its written in a combination of COBOL and binary punch cards and runs on servers powered by thermal turbines powered by bruning money and expired content punch cards.
Binary punch cards would explain why content updates take so long.
If we all pitch in maybe we can buy them some reel-to-reel magnetic spool drives!
They’re probably already on it, hence the presale of HoT and the timeframe it has taken them. Though expect high prices in the gem store, I hear the tape for those can get expensive.

C++ with tools being written in C# and python. They also use the Havok engine with Umbra from what I recall.
It’s probably just a way to promote balance. Full zerker/DPS would have a hard time killing, mainly due to the DPS loss if they die or the inability to kill due to lack of survivability. It would also deter full bunker builds since you couldn’t rely on attrition to kill, lastly it would also make it close to impossible to do without a full group.
This doesn’t make much sense at all, the target audience for this would be people who you don’t want anyways.
However there is a silver lining in your post, regardless of if it was your intent.
They could create a separate client/account for those who are interested in only PvP. Since sPvP is almost completely separate from the rest of the game, you could allow a on demand client that allows the player to only exist within EoTM, they could expand this to the WvW side of EoTM or WvW in general.
Still seems like much work for little to no gain.
The problem is really that GW2 tries to be different from other MMOs yet fails to do it. They take concepts that are popular in other games, tries to change them simply to say “at least we aren’t WoW”.
Fails to do it? I know the GW2 system isn’t perfect, but I prefer it 1000 time to any Trinity Game including WoW.
It’s a different system that is for a different crowd of players and it’s ok. I tried a lot of MMO and GW2 is the first one that I love and keep playing for more than a couple of months.
Subjective opinion, while valid, still doesn’t take away from the fact that GW2 isn’t really all that unique, it takes similar concepts as other mainstream MMOs and changes them simply to be different, and sometimes not for the better. They failed at being unique, not as a whole.
There were mmos before WoW, plenty in fact, I enjoyed several of them for many years. I abandoned them for WoW because I liked the mechanics and playstyle in WoW. They felt new and fresh to me, even if they probably were a rehash from some other games combined. Nothing new under the sun… indeed.
…
GW2 is different, you don’t have to like it but I do, as do many others.
And we are free to express that opinion too.
To be fair, GW2 would gain more from following the MMOs that came before WoW then trying to follow them. They did to some degree but tried to mix the wrong aspects of post WoW MMOs into GW2.
The issue I have isn’t that GW2 is different than WoW, infact its the opposite. My issue is that GW2 used many of the same concepts as WoW and other themepark MMOs yet changed them slightly trying to be different, but in the end it makes GW2 relatively the same, and not always in a good way.
GW2 would have been much better if they stopped trying to follow the theme park mold and embraced more of the sandbox mentality.
I don’t get your last paragraph. I don’t recall saying that people don’t have the right to express their opinions. It actually seems that people who do mention changes get more flak than those who defend.

I really don’t understand why people have this desire to make Guild Wars 2 just like all the other games out there.
It boggles the mind.
The problem is really that GW2 tries to be different from other MMOs yet fails to do it. They take concepts that are popular in other games, tries to change them simply to say “at least we aren’t WoW”.
While making GW2 a WoW clone would be bad, however ignoring mechanics and ideas used in other games simply because “WoW did it” is also bad. Anet is just being the hipsters of the MMO genre.
first thing, is :
WAY to many time sinks
i can understand the legendary being time consuming and thats fine
but ascended gear shouldn’t be as time consuming (for example)
i also dont like the fact that your best way of getting them is via tradeskills
imo each boss in the hardest version of the dungeons should drop something , and each world boss, make them weekly lockouts if you have toit seems like most of the time playing the game the reward does not meet the effort
This doesn’t make sense to me, you want to replace a timesink with another timesink. While I don’t mind the idea of unique boss drops, but ascended acquisition is fine outside of tweaks to the mats needed. Outside of leveling crafting(which everything can be bought and leveled in a hour), there really isn’t much of a timesink, unless you craft the ascended mats yourself instead of buying.
2nd thing
MOUNTS if GW2 really wants to make money add mounts, ya theres points all over the place , but i personally like riding through and enjoying the scenery instead of skipping it all by porting
this could be a huge cash cow on the market PLUS make the chests worth something and buying the keys worthwhile
This really isn’t needed and is really more of an annoyance. Professions are given speed boosts to compensate for lack of mounts, not to mention WPs everywhere eliminates the need. While I get why people may want them, but they aren’t needed in any shape or form. I still remember when flying mounts where brought into WoW, and it was cringe worthy.
Adding something simply because it is a potential cash cow is what ends up killing most MMOs nowadays.
3rd thing
3rd party addonsthis is pretty big, damage meters and ui customization would be alot more veteran MMO player friendly and keep people playing
UI customization I don’t mind in regards to addons, but allowing it creates a slippery slope. One of the worst things WoW did was allow raid mods to get out of control. It made dungeons and raids so simplistic it was sickening. DPS meters while interesting only lead to trouble, always has always will. Threat meters I liked, DPS meters just caused conflicts, even when DPS meters were first added and everyone knew they were inaccurate.
Though inspect should be allowed, but that has little to do with addons, and people will still cry foul. The lack of inspect is ironic, but that’s another story.
4th thing
more of a traditional dungeon trait for classes, ie tank, healer, dps
i know this game pushes the whole mechanic thing to its limits..but alot of new players coming from other games feel this gets old very fast
to much invis skip through trash in dungeons for example
why even have it in there if people can skip it, why not just have the 4 bosses lined up one after another?i feel they need to do something that forces people to kill all the enemies in the dungeons ie extra chest for dungeon kill completion
This is really 2 different things trinity and dungeon design.
Trinity should be added in regardless of how much people cry foul about it. However it should be done in a form that really allows all professions to perform any role(depending on build/gear). Not having the trinity mechanic and doing the current jack of all trades master of none has lead to the zerker meta and dps > all. It also limits boss fight design due to lack of structure.
Dungeon design could be done better to promote full clears over speed runs, but not really that big of a deal to worry about.
While we are on this topic, if we did pre-purchase in-game, where do we download come release?
Same as normal. All you would need to do is add the key from the box to the account, and when the update hits the launcher should auto-download. Granted just speculation.
My guess is the scarcity and inflation on cloth prices is intentional. If it wasn’t they could just simply lower the silk bottleneck.
It isn’t fair that it’s far more expensive to fully outfit an elementalist with ascended.
True, but being an ele drops seem to be weighted towards cloth, so purchasing outright would be more expensive, but farming would be quicker.
My guess is the scarcity and inflation on cloth prices is intentional. If it wasn’t they could just simply lower the silk bottleneck.
Blue is more common, so allows the player to fill their wardrobe initially, whereas green you may cycle out less which promotes transmutation useage, not to mention their dull appearance.
Or they just didn’t care and gave green filler models, same goes for ascended and their filler looks.
There is no debate, you just choose to dismiss the answer. GW2 is a B2P/F2P game which utilizes a vanity/cosmetic cash shop to supplement income.
If you want all vanity items to always be available or acquirable ingame, then sub based MMOs are the way to go(though not as much anymore).
(edited by BrooksP.4318)
I agree I don’t know why they don’t just make a 1v1 sytstem in this game… custom 1v1s aren’t nearly as fun because they barely matter. a real 1v1 system is way better because it’s more formal I guess…
seriously though why is there no 1v1 system? did they say anything specifically about why it isn’t in the game?
or are they just waiting to put it in another expansion so that we’ll buy the game a third time(with the core game and heart of thorns for free!!!)?
Because people are afraid of “elitism” and warn of the GW2 apocalypse any time it is brought up. 1v1, /inspect, raids. etc are considered “elitist” which is why it took them 3 years just to add a single raid.
Skills are weapon based, so equip any weapon your profession can and the 1-5 will change(4-5 unlock as you level). Staff is good later on, but is somewhat boring leveling. Might want to try other combinations while leveling, no downside to it other than a few inventory spots..
I’d say website itself is pretty useful so getting rid of gear check feature only should do it.
Why? People can and still use checks if need be, usually much more dumb ones. Ironically lack of inspect, might be causing more issues then solving.
Never got the hate for trinity. From a design standpoint its better to have something like a trinity to create encounters around, which can make fights much more interesting. Without its more of just an orgy hoping the dps output can outmatch the dmg received.
What would have been interesting is if they kept a trinity like structure, but allow any class to fill the roles in one way or another. This would require some creativity obviously.
Right now its just jack of all trades, master of none.
If you are so concerned with metas or elitist taking over then take the initiative to try and create a counter balance. Create a guild that caters to non meta/non elitist groups, then run said content only with that group.
Simply trying to ban something isn’t going to solve the issue, and in some cases it will actually make it worse.
The irony of GW2 guild system, is that in a attempt to promote guilds through rep and multi-guilds, they pretty much made guilds mega and useless.
Dungeons have been toxic for quite sometime prior to F2P. So it shouldn’t be much of a surprise that it has gotten worse.
GW2 loot system is based off quantity not quality.
Expect to see armor skins return via the BL merchant. Which means you will be able to get the skins either through BL tickets or the TP same as weapon skins.
Terrible idea (not that I think you are advocating it). I’d rather just have them on the gem store.
It would be, but recent actions lean towards that. From a finical standpoint it makes sense or at least the concept does. Keeping them in the gem store would require a constant flow of new ones to continue to draw sales, simply alternating them is good for burst sales but the end remains the same.
However adding them for tickets allows 2 avenues for income, playing on people’s will to gamble or buying it with converted gems or earned gold., It also gives better price control since they can modify key or ticket/scrap drop rate while still keeping scarcity in check due to RNG and influence key sales, if that fails increase ticket cost or simply rotate.
The downside however is that it will probably mean inflated gold prices on high value items and gems.
Just a guess though. Guess we will see,
Playing with pants on.
Expect to see armor skins return via the BL merchant. Which means you will be able to get the skins either through BL tickets or the TP same as weapon skins.
They could just convert most of the blue/green drops into a stackable item that when salvaged gives scraps and luck. While it wouldn’t remove the clicking, it would make it much more efficient.
However they won’t, the current system seems to do 2 main things. It gives a “sense of reward” to the player by having lots of items drop, regardless of value/use, it also fills up bag space which promote gem sales on bag slots.
Guessing that most armor skins will be sold for BL tickets same as weapons.
I doubt the change will be noticeable.
Without knowing what their post-HoT timeline is in regards to content, Fallout 3 seems like a better choice atm.
Recent actions by anet has also deterred me some.
After a while GW2 does seem to lack purpose. Regardless of if it’s pvp, wvw, or PVE almost every aspect just becomes meaningless repetition. Gear progression aside there is little character development, world influence, overall progression etc. While lore wise the game has depth, but from a player’s standpoint it doesn’t seem so, that’s always been my annoyance with GW2.
Mini’s need their own volume slider adjustment. Taking it step further, one slider for personal mini’s and another slider for public mini’s.
^This.
I think what they are banking on is people will buy more keys because the stuff that drops is now ‘worth more’ due to less supply from key farmers. Black lion skins right now might be 80-100g at release making scraps worth 8-10g but if the key farmers really consisted of a large supply, and the skin price for example doubles then each scrap is suddenly worth 16-20g.
They appear to be banking on new players coming in from F2P or returning players for HoT, in that they will buy gems to convert due to high conversion rates and high prices on items. BLC and key farmers were just collateral damage, I don’t think they actually want people to use BLC. Makes a good gold sink though.
I want to see how many rabbits I’ve killed.. So yes
So if you are lucky to find a cf map, then you should embrace the farm, so you have at least a little bit fun ingame
Never really saw the “fun” in following a tag around and waiting for a map ping. But to each their own I guess.
I’d rather just see the current five home instances un-instanced and made part of the open world… then give us some real player homes. Complete customisation, stick the nodes in there and sell a ton of extra cosmetic kitten on the gem store to make it worth Anet’s effort.
Why yes, I’d love to have quaggan guards at the door.
This would be the logical way of doing it, especially since it allows a less-invasive profit stream while having no effect on store vs. content balance. A game that is based so heavily around cosmetics, it’s always been odd to me that personal instances have been mostly ignored.
Just make chests only spawn during timeout. This incentivises people to do the events, and with megaservers you can just jump to a timeout map if you want to chest train. This doesn’t mean chest farming won’t be nerfed some, but it does help create balance. It is a much better piecemeal then either creating hard loot limits or nerfing the chests themselves.
What should of been done first
1. Fix contents of Chests
-Check profits made only via keys2. Remove key gain for free accounts.
3. Give time frame upon character creation in which tomes can be used. Be it level restriction / age of character.
4. If still all else has failed, then nerf key farming with a giant slam of rage.
-Check sales.5. Rinse and repeat of option 1 until it meets players standards.
-Remembering the customer is always right is the biggest key factor here. If they do not listen to demands that are reasonable they will only sink their own ship.
Or they could just utilize “per character slot” more often. If key farming is an issue then only allow X per week per character slot, this way those with multiple characters can still run PS just fine, but blocks key farming.
I also don’t think they should inhibit F2P accounts from getting BLK, its a good marketing tactic and with F2P restrictions the effect is limited.
Only ever had about 5 key drops from world mobs and I have 13x 80’s.
Never done key farming, as in disposable alts.
I know there is a key in one of the missions to do with Claw Island, so I’m wondering if it’s effected that as well (level 60 mission iirc). As I’m going through the stories with all my characters (4 characters completed so far) in preparation for HoT and I know some are at the Claw Island stage.
It only applies to the level 10 PS mission. Pretty much there is a timer on how many times you can get rewarded on the first stage it doesn’t actually affect the later missions.
I guess it will come soon that LS 2 will be included in the bundle …. few weeks/months after HoT Release. Look at 10$ Sales after HoT announcment and including core game in Hot…
But its only speculation
It really depends on how they do LSs moving forward. If they continue down the path of limited time free then cost, I can see them keeping the (discounted)cost for LS2 up until LS3 becomes paid then include LS2 with LS3. Though I doubt they will include it in HoT, but I guess I could see a “upgrade” bundle with it included.
Regardless what they seem to be doing with HoT and expansions going forward doesn’t make sense to me. As someone posted earlier their new model seems to imply that LS would be rolled into the expansions, or at least that’s how I interpreted the switch as well.
Granted I haven’t seen anything on what their plans are with LS so it is just speculation.
