Not knowing what you are fighting is the simplest way to add challenge. The reason people are able to farm dungeons in 10min is because they know exactly what to do and what the mobs are going to do. So with that predetermined strategies are used then optimized to be most efficient(zerker).

The way to solve this is to create randomly auto generated dungeons. Where mobs, locations, story, etc are all randomized for each dungeon. Fractals kind of kitten this idea but not to a point where it matters. With things being random you can’t fit to a single mold, you have to be more of a balanced approach not only from a individual standpoint(good mix of armor, HP, DPS, etc) but also as a group.

Its like that for the entire PS. IMO the only good part of the PS is the Order arcs, which is only because of the partners you are given. Outside of that the whole PS storyline is cliche and annoying, I’m looking at you Trahearn. Victory or Death whether grouped or solo is just icing on a very bad cake.

E: Also add Logan into the annoying category. His obsession with the queen board lines creepy more so than anything.

Which if they did hand out bans, they would have to ban every hammer guard doing teq. since they may or maynot be aware of what is going on.

They need to reevaluate how the connection between PS/LS and the Living World combine. The “simple” method would be to convert the PS into a instanced NPE, so anything outside of the NPE can evolve freely without hindering new players. This also allows them to modify and “reuse” the different zones in Tyria, based on how the world changes.

This was always my issue with levels in GW2. It makes zones reverse level gated, where doing lower level areas aren’t as appealing as higher ones. They keep trying to solve this by scaling loot to level and downscaling characters to promote usage. However it would be much simpler and add a more diverse and “living world” if they just had all characters start the same, new players would “level”/learn through the PS/LS and have everything else be equal. The initial change would be a pita, but it also adds longevity to areas and more room for new and easier to add content.

The $60 you paid for GW2 was for all the updates that came after release, and you got the base free. In the same way you pay $50 for access to HoT and future updates, the new player gets the base free as well. Many aspects of the original GW2 isn’t available or is much harder to get for new players, so they aren’t getting the same experience we paid for.

It would be actually doable if they buff rewards, 20 min fight for 10 blues 5 greens and 3 yellows and exotic spoon? No thx. I would rather do other world bosses or dungeons instead with real profit.

That and/or make spoons a currency, maybe towards teq. hoard?

E: Though they could just make a “World Boss Currency” to buy boss exclusive drops. Then have the currency drop scaled to difficulty.

IMO the fight is designed wrong.

Having a timer for a failure state will only attract more Glass Cannon builds, especially if the timer is barely enough.

This really. And if they are worried about spawn timers/resetting it, they should just make it reset when the turrets and mega are destroyed.

However I think with the megaservers they backed themselves into a corner when it comes to timers. If servers were still separate they could just have a rolling timer, spawns every 4 hours after each kill, check with NPCs on how long it will be till they rebuild/teq respawns.

While I still don’t think there is anything wrong with the fight as is, however I do go back on what I said about loot, it should be boosted.

Ok you can buy JUST access to HoT, its $49.99. In the same way you paid for access to the content that was added in post release, most of which new players won’t get.

So if people want to ignore the fact that YOU ARE NOT PAYING FOR THE CORE, then you should look at it as when you first bought it you paid for the updates and added content and got the core free, in the same way new players now get the core for free.

Both new and old are paying for HoT and future HoT content. If you don’t feel it is worth it then don’t buy it or wait for sale. But the whole new vs old arguement is pointless and shows how far down MMOs have gone. Vets should ALWAYS love the idea of ways to get new players into the game, it benefits everyone, but now people just complain.

the problem isnt the fails even if world bosses succeed they are not profit/time worth doing anymore if they dont buff the rewards. Example: If it takes 18-20 min now to do tequatl for 2-3g then you can go sw and make more money for the same amount f time . RIP world bosses

If you’re trying to rationalize the min/max profit margin on what content to do, then why play at all?

New mechanics? Tequatl got new mechanics? Hahaha. Nope!

To some players there are new mechanics. Since world bosses are usually zerged down so quickly they aren’t actually used. Now that it takes longer due to HP buff some of these stages are actually seen, which may cause the failures. Or people leaving when they can’t kill it with 8min left.

Got ported into a Teq kill yesterday that seemed to have people quit right before 1st defense stage, but were able to bounce back and kill it with less than 3min remaining.
Players giving up early because it isn’t a easy/quick kill, is probably the likely reason so many are failing.

They could really just convert the home instance into just a home in a instance. The issue with home instances is there is little to them, especially considering how big they are. They should make each home instance in the racial towns be based on the actions you have done in that races area, the more you explore, do events/quests, etc “upgrades” your home. Then ofc allow additions based on world events or cash shop.

It was odd to me, that a game that is modeled so heavily off of a cosmetic cash shop, that they don’t utilize housing more.

Is GW2 Becoming F2P?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: BrooksP.4318

BrooksP.4318

It will be a rolling expansion, so vanilla will have initial HoT stuff, with HoT being pay gated, then when expansion Y comes some of it’s elements will be added into Base+HoT, with expansion Y being the gate. My belief is that they will give a expansion a “lifespan” of possibility 2 years in which they will add content throughout, which is only accessible if you own the active expansion, then release the next.

This is why they have gotten into the habit of “adding in the base” since say when Y is released Base+HoT(full version) will just be base, and anyone buying Y will get Y+Base(core+HoT) and those who never upgrade will get HoT just 2 years late.

Please show us a screenshot of this “condition doing too much damage”

I suspect you are just not used to the trait changes yet and are falsely equating it with conditions.

I find that even at mega bosses like Teq, the bleeding stacks take 20-30 second to get over 100. Burning poison torment and confusion I rarely see go over 30.

I’m just not seeing this “mega damage” people are talking about from conditions.

100 stacks of sinister geared bleed = 14,000 dps
A single ele casting meteor shower on teq = 20,000 dps

SB could be a test, since condis alone will remove a burn stage when inflicting during portals. Did one yesterday that was done shortly into the 2nd burn stage it also seemed like a smaller zerg then normal(it was a morning SB).

E: Granted just a observation, and haven’t really done much to test.

BrooksP.4318

They should redo the way NPC/Bosses really.

One random idea is to add in a “Life Force”. Which can be relatable to stamina or battle momentum. Life force would be fluid in the sense it is based on how the fight progresses but would still be initially set and scales. Life force would affect a regen on its HP, so higher the life force the more and frequently it regens, and vice versa. -Yes NPC will now auto regen but doing enough consistant damage to overmatch the regen will cause the life force to drop..

Life force also affects the NPCs abilities, damage output, defenses, etc as the life force decreases so does the difficulty, or it shifts focus depending on what type of NPC it is, one may shift its focus on more damage while being more vuln. While this already done somewhat during stages, stages are usually based on either time or HP, however since life force is more fluid stages could repeat if the players mess up.

There would have to be ways for the NPC to raise its life force, either by downing or killing players, hitting. crits or high damage with abilities on players, random “boons” depending on activation(preset, random, other) can increase life force regen or burst.

What this idea tries to do is create a balance between condi dmg/usefulness and alpha. Condi’s would benefit by in a sense battling against the Life Force, since consistent dmg would cause the life force to drop steadily, usually alongside good enough alpha. Where as alpha dmg would be needed to really just chew through its HP.

However it could make fights into a battle of attrition if you can’t overmatch both.

Doing local servers or even doing satellite offices isn’t uncommon for large parent companies to do, it allows for steady transitions of games to that particular market. It also allows for revenue to flow into the satellite which reduces legal or financial limitations in regards to foreign companies . However this usually applies to development of the parent company’s releases or transitioning foreign subsidiaries into that market, since they are usually developed outside of where the satellite office is located at, not necessarily applies to local publishers or local based subsidiaries.

Though +1 for the book, haven’t read it, but checked a snippet on it, but it mostly talked about the Chinese and Korean market.

However I still don’t see how this has to do with that. NCsoft posting quarterly numbers on their investments, doesn’t really indicate full control. Especially since GW/GW2 doesn’t follow the same model as most of NCsofts other business models, nor even Korean based MMO models. It would make more sense to allow Anet to manage a lot of those issues, so long as they are hitting the numbers NCsoft expects. While I have no doubt that NCsoft has influence, but doubt they are overlords over Anets practices.

Would you have paid $90 for the original GW2 at release?

Under the assumption that you’re using the “but only 5 char slots at launch!” argument:

Five character slots is more than enough to try out your favourite professions, which, in the majority of the cases, is merely 1-3 per player.

Zero character slots makes it impossible to try out the revenant, especially if it has potential to end up being one of your favourites.

Your assumption was correct, however I decided not to follow up on it.

Personally no. I have 4 level 80s that can easily get into the new content much quicker then new players, I also have account bonuses due to age and daily logins and AP benifits. While I have 1 character slot open(is/was my BL key farmer) I still have easier access to income potential to buy a slot of needed compared to new players.

While I won’t be buying HoT at release, but that is because of other reasons outside of HoT.

in Guild Wars 2: Heart of Thorns

BrooksP.4318

I just want to say that for each person who feels “betrayed” by Anet, there is one of us that sees almost nothing wrong.

I showed GW2 to my friend, she was very interested in the game and also in the incoming expansion HoT after watching the trailer. So she read from the FAQ that she would need the core game to play HoT and she decided to buy it from a retail store for $20 on May 1st 2015, right after Chronomancer was announced.

Her oldest character is 50 days old only today. HoT prepurchase was announced and Arenanet stealth changed their FAQ about requiring the core game, now offering the core game for free if you purchase HoT for $50 minimum.

Arenanet will not refund or discount my friend, she spoke to a supervisor at their customer service and because it was purchased at a retail store they refuse to do anything about it. They will also not discount-upgrade the account to have HoT if she pays them $30($50 minus the $20 she paid at the retail store), there is no such option anyway. So my friend will have to shell out $70 in total, and only get HoT Standard.

You see almost nothing wrong with this?

I guess she should have known the risk of purchasing an almost three year old MMO that soon gets its first expansion.
The kind of discount you’re describing happens all the time everywhere. There’s nothing illegal about it and it’s certainly nothing out of the ordinary.
Though I can symphatize with your friend I’m afraid there’s nothing special about this issue you’re describing.

It actually could be illegal. What Anet did in regards to promoting HoT needing GW2 as a prereq, then changing at the last minute could be considered bait and switch. Or manipulative marketing/business practices. Everything else people seem to be arguing is perception and sense of value.

A sizeable chunk of the money won’t be reinvested in GW2 but used to please shareholders and other corporate bs, and that’s the point where a business practice is the result of nothing but greed. They already make a lot of money with the game and they certainly would have with a better HoT deal, but it’s never enough for them, they want more and forcing players to buy a character slot for the revenant is a method to accomplish this.

It’s interesting you bring up the “corporate greed” card as a argument. A bit hypocritical don’t you think? You are arguing that as a vet you deserve something from Anet for your patronage, in the same shareholders believe they deserve a rate of return from their investment. From what I’ve seen Anet/NCsoft is hardly what I would call “greedy” in their practice, only trying to balance. What did you expect from this style of model?

It does. he said that other games, even with subscription, didn’t give away character slots for new classes and that was a lie.

Also, the character slot is just the equivalent of how much was worth gw2 core game at its lowest buying price.

From what I read he said they didn’t ALWAYS give out slots, which is true even for subs. Again a moot point in comparing.

GW2 holds no value now, comparing its lowest pre-expansion price to post is false. Especially since vanilla GW2 isn’t going to be vanilla, it will be HoT:GW2 since they are incorporating aspects of HoT into it. Not to mention all the events, skins, LS1 that people who bought vanilla got that new players don’t.

It does: WoW had 1 character slot for each class available. When they added another class, they also added a slot.
GW2 starts with 5 slots for 8 classes and doesn’t add another slot for the ninth class.

It doesn’t. WoW was a sub, different models different standards. WoW also didn’t allow you to buy slots with ingame money. GW2 is designed to where if you want all classes active you have to purchase extra slots. This was implied on design as well as expansions. They could have, and should have, gave only 3 slots per copy, but it seems they did a middle ground by doing 1 for each race.

Love it or hate how Anet does business, but it should be expected from a B2P w/no P2W or massive paywalls.
