Basically, in order for API keys to be somewhat useful for authentication, they should:
- contain verifiable time of creation
- allow “customization” of the token with destination/application field.

This would allow applications to be a bit more certain about the owner of the keys.
When user is asked for API Key, time of “ask” gets recorded, and keys earlier than that timestamp would be rejected. Same with destination field.

The reason for app name / destination versus “Name” user gives the token is that user might provide something sensitive there under impression that name is private. So “Application” could be useful.

So, today is “Or Engineer” day? I understand there aren’t that many professions but… is this a bug? Or so few people play Engineer since turret nerf that it has to be twice in the dailies?

So in PVE for a while now the knockbacks don’t really work.
Enemy (NPC or Monster) would get knocked back and then they’d immediately port back half (or more) of the knockback distance and then run back to you.
Server ping is 40ms, so it can’t be lag.

This happens in about half the cases. You can do it to a minotaurs in Vigilant Hills or to undead in Orr (in both cases teleporting/shadowstep is not in NPC’s description)

Yeah, I want to put achievement points, wvw rank and pvp rank somewhere. I’m not sure if they should be on the normal “account” scope though, not sure where to put ’em.

Why not add “account statistics” scope, where achievement and age info can reside?

Yeah as of right now in Eternal “enemy” guards continue to spawn every minute (or less) on top of regular spots. This was north-east inner of SM. Sbi/HOD/Mag match.

Oh and just got disconnected at 1:06AM central

Doesn’t happen that often but…
if you have queued up to a map, and then you manage to waypoint while “The borderland is ready” dialog showing (I literally double-clicked the way point as it appeared), the dialog is dismissed automatically
Though it puts you back into the queue But still, can you re-show the dialog if you waypointed instead of hiding it into background?

Definitely strange goings-on in Blackgate Borderlands. The map was relatively empty but my special “latency indicator” graph was bouncing around like crazy, even though nothing was going on nearby. It could be hardware. We can move the map to different hardware but that requires kicking everyone because everyone has to disconnect and reconnect to the new hardware. It’s an easy test to do just inconvenient for people playing (about the same as if a new game build comes out). I will consult with my colleagues at work whether we should move everyone to different hardware.

64.25.38.162 would be the problem Whatever maps get handled by that IP seemed to have had the same kind of horrible lag — I saw it in tier 3 (DB/Mag/Sbi) map mapped to that IP. And on tier 1 too

I hate that people are buying and using custom arenas to farm wins, titles, achievements, pvp ranks, and reward track progression. I think this is an exploit and that it hurts the integrity of the game. I think that there should be no option for progression in these arenas. It does not seem fair to players that achieved goals the right way. I know people farm these to get dragon ranks on a daily basis. I think it is an exploit and against the competitive spirit of sPvP.

I wonder if simply offering dragon finisher as a gem item would fix this I bet most people just want cool finisher, and the only way to get it is either being very good, or very patient and play many-many-many slow games.

Only people who disconnect get desertions. Their teammates will get get a win or a forfeit.

Update: 4/5 players on the winning team had desertions.

Was it because they were in a party with person who left for a minute?

Update : ah yeah. Hehe there was a huge thread when this logic was introduced but we were told it’s on purpose, no? One person in the party disconnects, everyone else gets punished. Because reasons.

Numbers are a bit off.

If there are 3.5 Million accounts (using your numbers), it would impact ((3,500,000 * .00175) 6,175 accounts. Of those 6,175 accounts, it’s presumed that 98.223% of them would be RMTs, leaving only 1.777% of legitimate accounts affected by this change; meaning only 109 accounts. Out of 3.5 Million.

But the percentages that were given weren’t about affected accounts, but the number of emails sent in a month. That number wasn’t given, but for every 1,000,000 emails sent in a month, it would affect (1,000,000 * .00175) 1,750 emails. Of those 1,750 emails, 98.223% of them are alleged RMTs, leaving the aforementioned 1.777% of legitimate emails affected by this change, or (1,750 * .01777) 31 legitimate emails per million affected.

So 31 legitimate emails per 1,000,000 might be affected (per Chris).

The question then becomes, “is it worth it?” to increase the amount of hoops that RMTs will have to jump through in order to continue to ply their wares. Personally, I think so.

You’re right, has to be 0.00175. However he said “players” so I presume those would be accounts. As in, accounts that got into situation of having incoming mails trigger the limit. Doesn’t have to be in one email. Plus my question about if withdrawal from guild bank still stands I think. For raffles you could deposit the gold into the guild bank. But when it needs to be withdrawn that would add to the limit, no?

500G may seem like an entirely arbitrary number, but I guarantee it is not. I took a look at our mail data (believe me, you guys really like mail and there is a lot of data) and set the value based on that. At 500G, it is not only functionally effective, but also it will only impact 0.175% of our players during an entire month’s worth of mails (if an account would hit the restriction once per month/30 days).

Looking more directly at those transactions, a large majority (98.228%) of those mails are being sent by RMT or compromised accounts (after selling off everything of value on an account).

Yes, there are going to be some edge cases that this is going to bump into, and as we look more into the impact that this change will have, we might change the restriction. However, we feel that this change is going to significantly impact RMT in our game along with help remove a very large reason to compromise accounts.

This is just the first step in our plan to help users keep their accounts secure. More will come as we progress through the year (and forevers!).

But 500G is not just mail amount but total amount, as-in “withdraw from guild bank” and “incoming mail” combined. Was that taken into account? If there are 3.5 million accounts, this change would impact 612,500 accounts. I mean yes, tiny percentage, but 600K people…

So, I presume this won’t really slow down gold sellers. Instead of mailing the total amount, they’ll be advertising “depositing gold into your guild bank” (which is also applicable to “private selling of items” – invite person into personal guild, have them deposit total amount, remove them from guild) . As people can deposit immediately but not withdraw, the limit can be bypassed. Or heck, they’ll start selling pre-stocked guild. “Buy a guild bank with 1000000 gold for low low price now” .

GM Chris, while I respect you a great deal from playing with you in game, the issue here is the artificial kill counts. Getting 250,000 kills was something that we WvWers saw as a prestige. Only the best and hardcore players could get this through normal play (yes even in EotM). Being able to tag each other, and get kills over and over again, IMO, is exploiting a mechanic. It’s not on par with the Godskull or Snowflake exploits, as it doesn’t affect the economy, but that doesn’t make it right by any means.

If Tequatl didn’t drop any loot, would you have let TTS abuse the vulnerability glitch for easy kills and achievement farming? I would hope not. But we voluntarily stopped and let you know about it, because some of us have pride in playing the right way.

Of course the real problem is that title is set to an artificially mega-super-silly-high value. Kinda like Yak Slapper :P
They could, for example, add a title “Centurionnaire” and assign it to someone who observed 100 years worth of sunrises and sunsets in the game. To show “dedication” of those who spent 8.328 years of in-game hours

I got one yesterday and two the day before from my home tree. They’re still dropping. If I use the Forge to use up entire stacks of snowflakes (125 gifts), I’ve been getting around 25 per 125.

I’ll try to open more on different accounts. I was wondering if there might have been some internal limit somewhere (i.e. “opened N giant wintersday gifts = here’s a different loot table”)
Just did it on EU account that had no wintersday tree and indeed got toolboxes
(70 giant gifts opened in pvp lobby = 25 toolboxes, 25 figts opened in lion’s arch = 1 toolbox)
Will try to open all of them in pvp next

I’ve opened about 20 on one account and 10 on another, neither one got any tool boxes. Before it was about one in every 3 at least

For a while now the giant gifts collected from the tree have no longer been dropping the frost toolboxes
Anybody else has this problem? They drop socks and skins and sigils and sigil boxes but no tools anymore

I presume they simply wanted to nuke anyone wearing zerker gear and engaging in melee combat. Now you have a better chance of being stunned and melted before you can recover.

Definitely noticeable, not just for burning, and easily reproducible.

Take an engineer to the mists and throw your poison grenades on a target golem. Watch as the poison damage fluctuates per tick.

edit – this is a sample of the damage fluctuations from the above test.

All of these ticks were evenly spaced out – some of them have reduced damage for no reason.

I wonder if you have any on crit sigils/traits? With, say, 25% crit chance? Was this on rifle or two weapons as base equipment before using grenade kit ? (I presume two weapons with different sigils, one probably doom?)

Would /v2/characters expose everything that we currently see in the character select screen?

That would be …

  • Order most recently played
  • Level/Race/Class
  • Represented guild
  • % Map Completion
  • Last location
  • World (presumably for if a character is guesting? Not sure, I never really guest)

It would be useful to me to see which guilds an account belong to, having the guilds each character is representing may not give a full list but it would be something I could work with.

I’ve also had some ideas about how I could use the name of the character they are currently playing, and order of most recent play would achieve that.

I haven’t written up the RFC for /v2/characters (should probably do that today so we can get some eyes on it), but briefly — no order, yes level/race/class, probably rep’d guild, no % map completion, no last location, no last guested. There’s a bunch of other stuff in there like current equipment, inventory items, etc., that’ll make it useful at first for some applications.

This doesn’t preclude those features from ever being added, they just aren’t attributes that are currently pulled out of the character data on our side yet (and it takes awhile to make and deploy changes to the code that parses character data, unfortunately).

EDIT: In addition to recently played, time played per character would be nice as well (also perhaps deaths, heh).

For guild-related things probably better to keep both list of guilds and currently represented one (basically “which guilds character is in” and “right now represented blah”).

This way an overlay can show all guild activities at once (i.e. “Guild A is doing rush” “Guild B activated +5 transport buff” etc)

Need clarification on new defiance system.

So this is still going to be “count down to zero, use exactly one skill, boss goes immune to CC again for a while” type of system? Except refilling even faster than before?

I guess visual indicator is better than counting stacks, and now instead of 1-to-1 counting we’ll have to “visually” gauge how many particular skills are left. So if group is not highly organized it’ll be same stuff, view from the side :P “Why did you try to fear if there was only enough bar left for a blind! Now it’s immune again!!!”

Mine too, I loved it last year. Having a little bit less fun this year because I have to sort through all the people who only want the 2 rounds of attendance daily. That’s just plain horrible design. I would’ve liked it better if it was win 2 partake 5 or just remove the partaking alltogethr.
Oh, and my guildies love it too, so why can’t I join with them? that would make it an actual sport if you have teamplay

That would be waaaay worse. If only winning was included you’d have immediate end-of-match-by-quitting once one team gain significant advantage. Right now those who just need 2 participations get through two games and get out of your way. If you had 5 or only win 2 (which right now can be substituted with “pop 5 fireworks”) there’d be lots of screaming

I only do it for the daily as I don’t like it. Hence prefer my matches to be lopsided, as they are faster, and I don’t have to spend more time seeing “obstructed, obstructed” on screen.

Personally I would prefer it if ANET implemented something more in line with the grouping time out idea.. you drop from a game before it finishes then you get locked out for a penalty and then get placed into auto balancing… WIN – WIN

They might run out of players too quickly in that case It’s only those who are really interested in grinding out win counts that might be doing it — regular people just get through 2 games to get the daily laurel (hello, 500:40 matches) and get out.

As in, do not deviate, run near other players. If enemies start to spread out you’ll quickly kill off everyone as it’ll be constant 2 or 3 v 1.

That’s how I usually get through my “2 games to do daily”.

In the current version the mortar shots got swapped around too. Single shot (explosive and incendiary charge) should be one boom, like before. Instead it plays barrage sound which used to be used for knock down skill (the one you get after being traited in wvw – it fires multiple shots that knock people out in the target area)

I was able to finish it on my elementalist by, basically, ignoring the “protection”. Signet of air for faster movement. Waiting until two “underground” circles pop, then run to the cog to light it up. Then run in circles, killing shades if they spawn, then again, wait for two underground circles, etc. Fact that shades die with one hit if you have light helps Though I agree, it is not obvious, and I hear that phrase that shades are “drawn to the fires” but it didn’t make any sense. “They’re not drawn to the fire pool she threw, they crawl away from it?”. Also wish the divine fire was thrown more often — I had a few cases where shades are there but there’s no fire

I must have glitched as I was inside the wall and all the NPCs were outside and there was no way for me to get the flame.

Same here problem here. Couldn’t get the flame, NPCs were behind the wall and I was inside running for my life….

Rox throws the Divine Fire into the battlefield from outside. Look for the glowing whitish circles.

Oh, I saw those white circles after a while and noticed that I can light a fire on the cogs even if I do not see a torch equipped – after I had died a bazillion times. The problem is that it is impossible to light the fire. I get hit every 3-4 seconds by something so I get interrupted all the time. I had to take a break due to frustration.

You should wait for Braham to put a shield on one of the interaction points. It prevents the arm attacks from knocking you down (but not the burrow attack).

The arm attack isn’t the problem, it’s cripple + burrow + the shades spawn at the same time. So his “protection” is useless — every time he puts it it just gets a big oval and burrow thing almost one-shots me. I knew I shouldn’t have tried to do it on Ele Guard or go home.

Potentially, but it should be limited by dishonor.

Dishonor grows exponentially the more you gather. 16 minutes the first time, then +47m, and then +1h 24m the next time. That’s not exact because there is a time decay component but I think you get the idea.

Oh yeah, but I presume this would be primarily for pve users — they don’t care about leaderboard/standing/whatevs, and this will be easy 2g in 20 minutes (and another gold later, if he/she is online for couple hours)

p.s. plus daily “win blah on blah-blah” “achievements” means there should be plenty of pve people who are only joining for the chance at daily

This happens when you get re-scaled up/down — grandmaster trait on mesmer breaks for a moment and your third charge goes “poof” :P (also can be re-created in Twilight Arbor — if you have grandmaster trait, equip mantras, then choose Aether-path, it re-scales you, your mantra counts drop to 2)

First off, some traits are linked to very specific events which are actually almost invisible to new players unless they google for it. There are not even map markers which might give you a hint about obtaining certain traits on the zone.

For the record, if you click on the telescope icon next to the locked traits, it will show you where you need to go.

It gives you general area, and unless you actually lucky the event will not be there. For example Defeat the Branded Devourer Queen for trait X is usually either bugged, or not running when you get on the map (and you have to wait for the whole chain to restart, so without googling you will have no idea on how to get to the Queen critter)

Also good luck trying to defeat Grub in WvW As in, if there are people, they usually do some other stuff than doing the grub.

Traits:
I LOVE that it encourages and entices players to explore the world to unlock traits. That is a brilliant way to engage the players. It is even better that you can outright buy the specific traits you want for a small and reasonable fee.

Ideally that would be nice. Practically it’s horrible — things that are “encouraging” the exploration are severely mismatched to the level where it becomes “unlocked”. Basically most of traits are now an end-game content, because you won’t have enough gold and skill points to unlock them, especially on first primary character. And you won’t be able to actually do the things that it asks for non-pay-to-unlock method of obtaining it (bonus: horribly buggy events now block your ability to get a trait that theoretically is obtainable.).

Another bad aspect that I’ve encountered just yesterday — as an Elementalist you’re basically locked to fire for a while. The staggering “attunement” roll-out is just sad. No swiftness, no earth, not even water at the beginning. Yuk

If you indefinitely get -3 every match, you can’t grind the Lb’s. LB’s require you to get + points. Meaning you still have to win the next 3 matches to make up for your desertion and win 4 in a row to gain positive points….This would mean you have to uphold a 100% win ratio if you DC 1 in every 4 matches (making it 75% win). So after 100 wins & 25 losses(DC’s), you will only have 25 points on LB’s for 125 matches.

You are right. It could happen. If you can actually ALWAYS win (which you won’t unless you are one of the best teams). So now lets look at point spread. To be in the top 250 RIGHT NOW (10 days in), you need 51 points. This means you would need to have (using a -3+1+1+1+1 formula) 204 wins and 50 losses. Yes that is 254 games played with a perfect scenario just to make top 250. That is a fraction over 25 games a day. If you do an average wait time + match time you could just say 15 minutes a match. That is 6 hours 15 minutes non stop play time. So yes if you can find 5 people with no jobs, no school, and no lives that are GOOD ENOUGH to maintain a 100% ratio for 254 games, it is possible. In real life, you are talking about a situation that will not actually happen. Possible yes, improbable YES.

yea in the beginning its just a games grind

but eventually as MMRs become more accurate (from more games played) then people will start reaching personal maximums on the LB because they will be winning basically 50% of their matches.

but if you keep your MMR from ever raising, you will never reach your personal limit on the leaderboards. so in the long game its very exploitable.

i’m not saying people are going to actually do it to a significant extent, but the system should not allow for it either way.

the only thing needed to fix this is if you win with a deserter on your team, your MMR should still increase technically it should increase MORE because you won against unfair odds but there would be no good way to determine that so just leave it as a regular win.

Well, not more (as that would allow “exploit” by having someone who doesn’t care about their MMR at all to join and quickly drop off) but simply shouldn’t matter. While people queue together as a group, punishing everyone because one of them disconnected is just stupid and counterproductive.

No, I think pulses are much better. It gives you a tiny glimpse into group’s movement until the turret is destroyed

Haven’t tried using any of mine yet but what tier of things where you using them to harvest?

All tiers — mithril and oricalcum and copper and iron, green wood logs to ancient, from carrots and onions to ghost pepper — I always get a tiny snowflake (if I get one). I mean it’s better than nothing, for sure, but I wonder if it was supposed to have been given other kinds of snowflakes too (kinda like presents used to give more luck but then got re-balanced by a lot)

So I have used several stacks of frostbitten tools (axe, pick, sickle) and they only give tiny snowflake and nothing else.

Is this a bug or intended? Should they have a chance at any other snowflakes? Or someone put wrong description (“Provides a chance for snowflakes when gathering” instead of “Provides a chance for tiny snowflakes when gathering”)

Or was someone lucky enough to get non-tiny snowflake?

Help the Sentinels clear a path across Lake Desolann event is bugged. Can’t get my trait
Half sentinels in the tower, half across the lake. Asthmatic siege devourer is squished by the western shore. Talking to NPC doesn’t do anything, they just circle around and stand there. Talking to the NPCs that made to eastern shore also doesn’t do anything useful.

New trait system makes me so sad
