Personally, I think the Dolyak should be used for everything. I want armored Dolyaks to ride into battle. Forget about horses.
I’m probably gonna work towards getting a utility item and get the MF Infusion. People may hate MF, but 20% is really good, especially for the stats ascended items give (I don’t think the ones I looked at had MF stats in their base stuff, so that’s great).
That is also my favorite mission. I mean, it wasn’t too hard, but it was just so darn cool! Especially if you played human and summoned Hounds of Balthazar, while in it.
Complete Victory or Death.
Ah. Thank you.
Time to break the news to those guys and the guild leader.
I am not sure if this is the best forum for this, but…
So, guild is having a bit of a problem with a guild I’m in. Right now, I’m under the belief the reason that our guildmates, who switched to Kaineng, can’t access our Guild Bank is because it’s sort of a system in place to keep our guild all on the same server. If I’m wrong this might be a bug. If anyone could tell me what’s going on and a possible solution, that’d be great, so we don’t have to have more inconveniences in the future.
(edited by BunnytheSwordsman.4173)
Who cares about that, when you’re faster than a centaur? 8D
Well, if that’s the case, I openly welcome the return of Charr Hide armor (the sole reason I can’t play Charr is because my Warrior wore Elite Charr Hide, in GW1). xD
Well, it seems that we’ve come to a completely different problem, thanks to Konig. XD I like this, though. I have a terrible feeling that there aren’t just 6 elder dragons. Tyria, the world, is much larger than just Cantha, Elona, and Tyria, so maybe there are more dragons in other places?
If that would be the case, it would be nteresting to see whether such a high concentration of magic would attract them to Tyria for essentially a feast of feasts.
Alright, it might be too soon for this, but this has got me thinking. I’ll keep it short. The Elder Dragons seem to be the source of all magic in Tyria. So, by killing them, we’re probably destroying magic itself. If that’s the case, either we’re going to see a lot less necromancers, elementalists, guardians, and mesmers in the future generations. Thoughts?
Other posible consequences to killing EDs would be great too.
Nope. Though, you do pick up some nice tidbits and references, if you did.
For the case of humans, I felt that was a bit of a problem. For the Norn, it was believable. I don’t know about the Charr, because I did not play them yet.
Look at it this way: You’re more of a local hero, in the beginning and then it grows.
However, the Sylvari have it really good. They’re born and they have a quest right off the bat.
Isn’t Sorrow’s Embrace also what’s left of Sorrow’s Furnace?
Honestly, it would not surprise me that the Ascalonians ate Charr, given how we had an armor set made out of their hide. Gotta do something with the meat.
Not really. When I did my Personal story, I found the gear karma vendors gave much better gear than the rewards for the PS. Also, craftng your own armor also tends to give you better stats than the stuff a PS gives you.
So, if you don’t have time for crafting, I suggest getting Karma to buy yourself an armor set about once every 5 levels.
I also feel like the rcruiters are sometimes terrible represenativs of their order. xD For instance, the Order of Whispers and Priory guy in the human story didn’t convince me enough.
Whispers: “CUNNING! CUNNING! CUNNING!”
Priory: “Let’s use this untested device to save children!”
Vigil: “Let’s just go save those kids.”
While for my Norn, Whispers and the Priory both had good representatives. Thurkal was just terrible.
Honestly, I would have no problem with the map completion, if I didn’t have to do the same thing 3 times. It’s good, because I know where things are, but it gets very tedious, I feel. Especially if you’re also trying to play WvW at the same time. The way the game works, exploration can be difficult. For instance, there was a vista at one POI and I looked where it was. If I went to get it, I’d be abandonning my group. I’d guilty and they might get mad at me for it.
Exploration in the actual world is so much more relaxed, it feels.
I don’t mind having to do WvW for map completion. I do mind having to do the exact same map 3 times. I am not sure how many others feel this way, but it’d be nice to just have to complete the boarderlands ONCE and it covers all of them.
Charr. After all, I wonder what we did with their meat, when we used their hide for armor, back in GW1.
All roads lead to Orr and where there’s Orr, there’s Trahearne. xD
I don’t know why we can’t just have the Wilhelm Scream as one of our death cries.
As mentioned in a thread regarding the Lost Shores event, the Karka canonically appeared after Zhaitan’s defeat (https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/lore/No-Risen-Karkas/first#post1161441). So, this makes me wonder, how much time passed in the Personal Story from beginning to end? This is not how long it took YOU, but how long it took in-narrative—for lack of better words.
The thing is that despite the recommended level for some quests, I get the feeling that there isn’t much time between them (the Norn Tournament quests, for one.). Others feel like maybe a couple weeks or so could have passed, or something. For awhile, I thought maybe 6 months was an appropriate timespan to defeat Zhaitan. 1 month for racial story, 3 months of Order (and even then, I have problems with becoming a Warmaster this quickly), and 2 months for everything involving the Pact. My stuff feels a bit unevenly spread, but 6 months is still 6 months.
So, what do you guys think? How long do you think it took our characters to get from Divinity’s Reach/Rata Sum/The Grove/Ascalon/Hoelbrak to defeating Zhaitan over Arah?
…I am honestly on a quest for mine. Unfortunately, my bias to a name I saw to a Warrior/Ranger back in GW1 makes it so hard. “Signet of Free Beer” with a Moa named “Free Chicken.”
8/10
I clicked the last one last and saw nothing special. Then the last one, I just smile from how kinda cute it is.
Chose the best two pictures I’ve got of my ranger, for mine. XD
>w> lurks Just looking at the art and drooling still.
Wyld Hunts are more or less a calling a Sylvari experience. It does not necessarily have to be, “I’mma slay me a dragon!” The three choices for what your character recieves in your dream could be one.
However, the thread does pose an interesting question. Do humans have Wyld hunts? What makes them unique to Sylvari is that they have symbols of them during The Dream. I’m pretty certain races that are not sylvari are capable of having prophetic dreams at certain points, so…
shrugs I’m just overthinking things.
Honestly, given that we have the Pact in the North and can now handle Kralk in the Crystal Desert, I’d like to see how Anet would handle a true diverging story. You can choose which dragon to go after next and your story will have similar stages of plot development to each other depending on who—Jormag or Kralk— with different situations.
Basically, we would be fighting two dragons at the same time and it’d allow for some believability that we’re ALL heroes in this all. Sure, our stories are the same, but we’re fighting on different fronts.
Of course, mayb my idea seems a bit silly and could be explained a lot better if I were good at explaining.
Well, apparently the Bandits and White Mantle are connected in some way, if I am rememering my orphan personal story correctly.
Am I the only one that wants to play a hylek?
Only frog warrior I will accept is Frog. Nobody else. XD
Actually, I was just telling some friends that it’d be really cool to hav our dyes—as nonsensical as it sounds— affect the color of the flames.
Honestly, with Zhaitan gone, a lot of doors have opened up. I don’t expect it to be settled, anytime soon with Joko and Kralk to the east. It’d be interesting to see the Pact face off against Joko’s corrupted Sunspears, though. Heck, maybe even see the Pact under the same threat that lead to the demise of the Sunspears.
Other doors opened up are:
1. Cantha’s no longer physically blocked. Assuming that Usoku’s isolationist policy has not lightened in the 250 years since GW1, though, we won’t be getting help from them anytime soon.
2. The Tengu were waiting to see which side to join, in the war against the dragons. I recall a Tengu Blacksmith is involved with the Pact, so we may have some good things from them coming soon.
As for what happens when all the dragons are dead? I can see Orr becoming sort of the Durmand Priory’s ultimate fantasy-land and it’ll become just this major research site. That or it’ll become the next Lion’s Arch, because it is more or less in the center of all the regions. Honestly, Orr is a dead country. Best let the dead rest.
Playing alone for me was solidified through hours of playing the original GW1, as a kid(I was 13 when Prophecies came out). In the original GW1, the whole map was instanced, so you just took some henchmen/heroes with you and soloed just about everything with the exception of a few things.
I just prefer playing with people I know and then we tend to make groups of “friends of friends.”
Your art is so pretty. ; o ;
My Ranger. It’s a bit much of a reference for what you plan on doing (I see you changed it to headshots, now), but I’m guessing all you will need in this reference is the picture on the far right.
Basil Wilding again. xD This time, with an armor set that I like. I did not particularly care for the Falconer shoulders. So, I took the Vigil Shoulders. I think it is safe to say that I lost the look of a ranger, beyond my bow.
>w> Sorry for posting again, but I got new armor and made sure to get a better reference of it (for future use, because you never know). My ranger~
I really do love how your art looks, by the way.
Of the pets I actually use:
Fern Hound: Witherfang
Hyena: Chuckles
Red Jellyfish: Kurara
Blue Jellyfish: Clara
Honestly, the Largos might get me interested, but I’d probably play it just as much as my human.
I wound up tying up all my characters together and have some connection t my brother’s characters. The one who got the bad-end was my Elementalist, who returned to Ascalon to help fight the Charr—Foefire got him, in the end. His sister, my Mesmer, wound up getting married and continuing the family line down to my Ranger.
250 years later, my Mesmer and Elementalist family’s name (Ridley) has been long forgotten, but their connection to the Flameseeker Prophecies (I like to think that all of our GW1 heroes were Chosen, but never actually fulfilled the prophecy) was remembered by the White Mantle and Shining Blade. I have a slightly altered “orphan” story in my head for my ranger, he was adopted by a Sylvari, who lived in Divinity’s Reach, which is why my ranger has a Fern Hound, and his joining the Vigil was more a sidetrack on his part. He left Divinity’s Reach to look for the Mantle and get answers and to find out where his adoptive mother went (she left on a Wyld Hunt).
My GW1 ranger, on the other hand returned to Cantha at the end of his journeys, helping to . He was traveling partners with my brother’s warrior(and Ascalonian/Elonian), who lived in Lion’s Arch after leaving Ascalon. It saddens me to not be able to make a descendant for him yet, because I want to remain true to the lore and his own story. He did meet my Mesmer and Elementalist, for the first time during Nightfall. My Elementalist and he joined the Sunspears, but for different reasons. My ranger wanted to see new lands and do what he could to help the greater good with what he learned at the Monastery. My elementalist had learned his sister (the Mesmer) was still alive and living in Elona—they got separated in the Shiverpeaks. Back to my old ranger, he retired from the adventuring life in 1085 AE, when he found himself a father. He kept up with his skills and passed on his bow to his children. The bow has become a family heirloom, even though one can no longer use it. He kept in touch with his friends, in Tyria and he returned one last time to check up on my Mesmer, when her brother was killed in the Foefire.
That was the last recorded instance the Ridleys (Mesmer and Elementalist families) and Splints (my ranger) met. My Mesmer and ranger exchanged letters for a long time, but unfortunately my Mesmer died at the age of 80 (1136 AE). My ranger, on the other hand, lived for 111 years. When he was too old to hold a bow anymore, he took up a pen and wrote his personal account of his adventures. This ranger was my main character, and he’s the only one who died truly happy. He had a very large family, by the time of his death and was loved by them all. He was that awesome grandfather who always had a good story to tell. I just have this image of him just falling asleep as he watches his son teach his son how to use a bow and everyone realizing, “Wait, he never takes naps…” and then it hits them.
In the present day, his descendants are still carrying on their traditions, and the written records are still preserved. However, nobody has been able to be a true adventurer, due to the isolation of Cantha. Since Zhaitan is the first ED to go, I expect Cantha might be having a bigger role soon.
When I saw the destroyer eggs, my PTSD from my first EotN playthrough returned. I hate destroyers. Absolutely hate them. xD
Honestly, I regret not choosing the Quaggan. Every army needs its adorable Cheerleaders. And the Quaggan are just that. xD
Glad to see I’m not the only one. It was so easy, but it was incredibly fun. xD Getting that “Master of Overkill” achievement was even more hilarious. I just whacked a Noble in it and did over 200k damage…
I hope this is not the last time we see that golem.
Personally, I found Arah’s storymode pretty fun. Though that might have been thanks to the party banter, cooperation, and me being friends with one of them. The atmosphere was nice, but the AoE spam when your using the wonky cannons to fight the dragons got on my nerves. I got pinballed from the front of the ship to the middle of it.
I’m not a fan of how the Armegeddon set looks, so I try mixing and matching. I kind of like the semi-armored look.
Honestly, I don’t mind someone else getting the credit for all the things I did for The Pact. That’s kind of how an organization works. Trahearne’s the face and leader of The Pact, so regardless of rank, he’ll get credit. It does irk me when he gets all the credit on the field though. He gets public credit—I get credit amongst our ranks. That is how it should work I think.
I have a real problem giving my credit to someone so underdeveloped by the time of the Orr arc. Like, he had the potential to be very interesting, but failed in execution. We learn NOTHING of his past (if they do this later, it’s a bit late for that) with the other orders and the only legitimacy he has is the Pale Tree’s vision that was shared with you.
7/10
I like the first name, but not so much the last name. The first nam is just fun to say.
My human ranger is Basil Wilding. >w>
1) 20, Male
2) It’s important, but it’s got to have good gameplay to back it up. I come from the first game and felt like GW2 had very little of the original’s feel, until the end of the Personal Story. Even then, I like the world as a seting for my headcanon for characters.
3) I’m interested in individual characters in the context of events and such.
4) I somewhat identify with my ranger, mostly because even when I think in character, he’s kind of the person who lightens the mood when the going gets rough (I don’t dance nearly as much, though). I do feel he’s more separate to myself, though—he just has some traits that I share.
5) As I play the game, the world unfolds and I like to think that I’m just playing out the world’s history. My character joined the Vigil, but I do not like to think he became Second in Command with the Pact, or even personally knew Trahearne.
6) Seeing as my character is actually a character—yes. Defeating Zhaitan was a sidetrip to make his main goal possible, which will unfold in Anet continues the White Mantle lore.
7) It fits well and while people may give Trahearne slack for taking over a story supposedly yours, I like to think your character is giving his side of things. Trahearne’s the leader of the Pact—the face. Anything ANYONE does in the campaign will be credited to him. It’s just when my character gets no credit on the field of battle that I get irked.
8) Honestly, I don’t even like the personal stories that much. I kind of take my own twist on them and make my characters my own—just like I did in the original.
9) The Personal bit of the story feels more like an origin story—who you were, where you came from, what got you here. In the large scheme of things, until the Pact was made, your character was not a major cog in turning the world. Trahearne made you into a cog—unfortunately, it was to his own benefit, some may say.
Well, there’s Basil Wilding and Haruna Splint. It’s more or less mainly my headcanon for them that I do. Basil’s orphan backstory in his PS is actually for my brother’s character (Jackson Wilding). But the story is basically this:
In GW1 I had three mains: Ein Ridley (Elementalist), Celia Ridley (Mesmer), and Boutan Splint (Ranger).
Obviously Haruna’s the descendant of Boutan, but she’s a thief as opposed to ranger. As for Basil, he’s a direct descendent of my Mesmer (making my first ever character his great-great uncle, pretty much).
Jackson, my younger brother’s character is the orphaned descendant of his old warrior from GW1. It’d make sense the surname (Adiea Ahai was my brother’s character) did not survive for both our characters in one way or another. Now, as for what I really think their personal story is… I like to think that the families of my old characters somehow wound up intetwined again—especially my brother’s character and my thief’s family.
Basil was never good with magic, but has a thing for gardening. The Splint family is a noble house of Divinity’s Reach, which employed him to tend to their garden. He knows of stories about his ancestors. After the Searing occurred, Celia was separated from Ein (her older brother) until the events of Nightfall, when Ein and Boutan were enlisted into the Sunspears.
The Splints are Canthan by origin, but at the same time Emperor Usoku was beginning to be more isolationist in foreign policy—I am assuming there was a brief window native Canthans could return— Boutan was on his deathbed at the ripe age of 103. His legacy is carried on by the family by mounting his old flatbow on the wall of their home to remind them of their lineage. Of all my characters, Boutan was the most complete (I got hacked, so I wound up not getting any HoF titles). He completed Prophecies, Factions, Nightfall and EotN, but in my head I had different stories for him as opposed to the main one.
The White Mantle for one reason or another decided to attack the Splint estate by burning it to the ground. Haruna and the Wilding brothers fight off the Mantle and report it to the Seraph, who then turn it over to the Shining Blade. Haruna’s only theory is that Boutan may or may not have been a Chosen from her family stories(the descendents don’t know their families have a long history together too).
Without a home, Haruna sets out on a quest of vengence—her twin sister having been killed in the attack. Basil goes with her as a companion, but then ends up joining the Vigil to help in the campaign against Zhaitan. Later, Haruna joines the Order of Whispers based off the fact her ancestor had a few run ins with them during his time in Elona. When the Pact is formed, she personally requests to join any squad with Basil and his brother in it and the trio is reunited.
If the White Mantle and Mursaat are expanded on, the story will continue. XD For now, they are on “vacation” traveling around, when a newly awakened Sylvari approaches Basil and tells him that she saw him in her dream and that he’d help her find out what her Wyld Hunt is—she has one, but the interpretation said Basil had the answers.
…also, heavy shipping of Basil and Haruna, because they look adorable together.

The hard part for me to get over with the Charr is that they are actual PEOPLE now. Like, they are characters and personalities. I mean, when I met Pyre in EotN, I felt incredibly awkward… why?
Charr Hide Armor. < Do you know how hard it is to like a race, if you were willing to skin them and wear them for armor?
My least favorite thing was that the “personal” part of the Personal story ended way too fast. I mean, the White Mantle killed my parents and I get no other explanation? I really hope the expansions expand on the personal stories as well.
Really, finding my parents was the most disappointing thing ever.
