The original game had capes for guilds, but I can understand where problems could come in. With the swimming mechanics, capes would start to do silly things, I bet. I won’t rule them out, but I would not expect them for awhile.
I was experiencing it pretty badly earlier today. I can normally run the mega-boss events just fine, but the lag was awful. On top of that, the sounds it made the game make sounded a bit demonic.
It also felt like it spiked greatly whenever there was an enemy nearby. I know my computer isn’t this bad, because it ran perfectly before today.
It’s an April Fool’s Joke.
D ; That’s such a terrible name (I’m a mama’s boy, so I have a bias), but it’s a funny name though. Granted, in Norn culture, I really doubt he’d be respected with a name like that. XD 7/10
Akna Svellfiskr- Female Thief
Nah, that’s just the lighting. She’s got the caramel skin, it seems.
Neutopia and Legend of Zelda mostly. XD Though the first zone has more of a Mario feel than the others so far.
Amazing, but I would not want it to stick around longer than it should. These sorts of things are better appreciated when they’re events. The reason I stuck around in GW1 was for stuff like this and this is no different. Will I play it after I finish it? Only to help friends; I hate those monkeys.
So, in short, keep it temporary, but DO keep it around for next time.
I also heard you like treasure chests…
I think it’s a funny commentary on 1st/3rd world dynamics, that at the same time you have a tragic event in a virtual world like Flame and Frost, complete with sick and dying fugitives, half the population of heroes is distracted by virtual entertainment, ignoring their plight.
Well, the refugees can come too; they need the escape from reality more than anyone. ;D Gotta keep them out of the Cove somehow.
It’s more fun with 5, but it adjusts to party size. I was doing it with one other person earlier.
…the virtual world is so much better! Am I right?
I’m still clueless as to the point of giving them the audio logs. I mean, storywise, it’s all well and good, be we get nothing for our trouble, it seems. XD
Well, it actually sounds more like “Clor Island,” but we’re difressing from the topic. And Kyran, you underestimate the power of Asuran Technology. XD It’s the explanation for everything, that magic can’t solve.
Actually, the represenatives of each order are also commanders, if I recall. I forget their names, but the Asura that is in the Vigil is also a commander. We’re all like advisors and it’s good to have multiple advisors.
I like to think that all Personal Story stuff happened at the same time. The only real problem arrives with Clawr Island. It would not make sense for the initial attack to have been all three orders at once helping the Lionguard, because that was the whole reason of the second quest there. So, in my head, it’s just the Lionguard fighting there.
As for the canon, it was stated the reason there were no Risen Karka was because Zhaitan is already dead.,therefore the Personal Story already took place. In addition to this, the Consortium wants to move the refugees of our Living Story to Southsun Cove, which also places it after the personal story. We don’t know how long Zhaitan’s been dead, though. One of the Charr I talked to about the periscopes said she was out there helping refugees for months, which coincides with how long F&F’s been going on.
I don’t know if I misread this though, but the construction of the fountain was actually when we were in the process of rebulding it. Mad King Thorn kind of destroyed it during the Halloween Event. It was not as if we were witnessing past events, if that is what you meant.
Not at all
Did you know real bad addictions have people in denial?
That’s just making this an unfair question to ask then. If we say no, you can just claim we’re in denial.
Honestly, my obsession stage is over. Most of it is just out of frustration from my inability to make a decent hunk of money in a session. I know there are ways; I’m just terrible at making money in games period. XD
Nope. It’s just the username.
Using the same logic, players playing asura, sylvari and human characters should just skip the whole Flame and Frost content because is none of their business?
I don’t know about the other orders, but the Vigil PCs at least has a reason to be involved. XD Though, I don’t know how much of it is General Almora being, “THESE ARE MY PEOPLE. I MUST HELP THEM.” But I don’t know about the others, yet.
The key word is “most” of the NPCs.
Because not even the Molten Alliance can stop the Charr and Norn from appreciating their meat!
Though, I think what we should all be worried about is this “Kom-pew” something. If the Asura have not made things like this yet, they are to be feared. xD
I was about to ask about this as well. One thing I don’t think you have mentioned is that there is tension between the dredge and FL. I forget which dead-drop says it, but one of them mentions that they are probably being forced into this alliance by something. I may have misread something somewhere.
Also, I think it was also mentioned in the same dead-drop that the Shamans did not want to share their magic with the Dredge, yet they still are doing the ritual.
So, the orders all seem to have uniforms and special colors. However, I have noticed that some NPCs deviate from this occassionally. For instance, I know Forgal’s wearing some cultural armor with the Vigil armor, the one guy you meet in the Norn PS representing the Vigil is wearing cultural armor as well.
There are some just not even wearing pieces related to their order, but just have the same color scheme?
Me being kind of an in-head RPer, this was something that always came up for me. So, what do the regulations on uniform armor seem to be with the orders? It seems like the higher ranks got the more lax dress-code, but I could be wrong.
Well, apparently we’ve gone from one annoying race to another, with the Priory(not as big as Rox and Braham, but he’s there), in this event. Instead of an Asura we got a Sylvari. groan Kinda tired of both races.
EDIT: He’s in the Order, but meh…
(edited by BunnytheSwordsman.4173)
…well, I don’t even see Sylvester Stallone, in the screenshot. xD In the art, yes. But when I see him ingame, I think his face got punched in more than Rocky’s and he looks like he’s on the verge of tears.
Same thing happened here. I was like, “Wait, come back! We’re not done talking yet! Don’t leave me with the disappointment of a son! Eir! EIIIIIIIIIR!”
…and my mind is in the gutter.
Glad to see I’m not the only one. ;D
But in all seriousness, I do want a Norn-lady to princess carry my little human Ranger to safety in those strong arms of hers. XD
If you like to be a Ranger, this game isn’t for you. XD
But still play a ranger, it builds character in other ways than levels. xD
I personally liked the Druid Armor for rangers. My old ranger back in GW1 wore the Elite Set as his main set. XD
Heck, any of the old Cultural armors for Norn and Asura would be perfect too. I was so disappointed when cultural armor was locked to that race. XD
I find it hilarious when I see brightly colored sylvari running around with those chainsaw greatswords. Not so much an odd class match up, but weapon choice.
I don’t know if this is just because I’m bugging out or there is some sort of limit on how many you can find per day.
So, right now, I have found:
Goblet
Legionaire
Compass
Logbook
I need the Swordbelt and the Ship-in-a-bottle, but every time I go over a snow/dirt covered object, it says I already have the item returned. It’s a bit frustrating to have to search for these things and then find out you’re unable to get it. xD Is it a 1 per day sort of deal, or what’s going on?
I dunno if this is even the right forum for this, but hey…

Family and Friends
Does your character have any friends or family, or anyone else of notable relation, in
Carlotta Ridley— A noble, mesmer, and Scholar of the Durmand Priory and former employer of Basil. When the Pact went to Orr, she was there as well. However, their paths never crossed. She maintained a professional relationship with Basil, in public, but behind closed doors, she often tried to be like an older sister to him and help, if she could.
Ashald Svellfiskr(Deceased)— When Basil joined the Vigil, Ashald was assigned to be his mentor. When he was promoted to Crusader, she requested him to be her partner. When they were together, they got the nicknames of Hammer and Nails, because whenever Basil’s arrows hit, Ash would bash it in with her warhammer, much like hammering in a nail. Rumor has it that there was a bit more to their friendship, but it was cut short, in Arah.
Akna Svellfiskr— Ashald’s younger sister, 23-24 years old. A leatherworker and hunter, who unlike her sister, is not the best fighter. She is very no-nonsense and her sister’s death has made her even more focused with the inheritance of that legend. After Basil saved her life, on Southsun Cove, she has softened up to him and gave him the respect her deserved.
Sylvari Wilding(Unnamed as of now)— A female Sylvari, who had adopted Basil five years ago. She was more of a close friend than a mother, but she enjoyed the companionship Basil granted her. She left to assumingly to pursue her Wyld Hunt.
Personality
Temperament
At the start of his adventures, Basil was a goofy sort of man, making jokes to keep himsel level-headed. Even in battle, he hides his fear with humor. He was somethng of a scoundrel at times, but this all changed in Orr. The constant fighting had hardened the young man into a fine soldier. After Ashald’s death, he became more sullen. Although he has exited his depression, the man he was before coming to Orr is gone. Occassionally, he will still crack a joke, but he is far more diplomatic.
Quirks
-Basil’s got sort of a phobia with going through Asura gates. Between the feeling one gets when passing through one and the fact nothing is behind them, but a long drop if you are in Lion’s Arch, has resulted in him doing something Ash dubbed the “Wilding Hop.” Basil essentially does this really silly looking hop through an Asura gate to help him deal with this.
Name: Basil Wilding
Approximate Age: 20-21
Affiliation: Vigil
Race: Human
Profession: Basil is a ranger trained by a Sylvari, who had adopted him after befriending him. His fern hound, Witherfang, was left behind, when his guardian left on a mysterious journey.
Appearance
Basil stands at about 5’ 11" with a slim build with strong arms, built for drawing bows. He is easily identified by his violet eyes.
History
Youth
Basil was left at Queen’s Heart Orphanage by his parents at a very young age. He grew up with no memory of them, like most of the other children there, and as such tried to make the best of it. He really was really just a plain child, until the age of 15, when he met a Sylvari passing through Divinity’s Reach. This sylvari and he became close friends, of sorts. He learned many things about the Sylvari through her, so he understood the meaning of her taking on a surname, so that she could adopt him.
This sylvari woman then taught Basil the ways of the ranger and to appreciate nature. She was known for her green thumb, as most Sylvari were. Her gardening skills were also taught to Basil.
Early Life
Around the age of 18, Basil was hired by the Ridley family to tend to their garden. It was good pay and Basil got to know owner of the house, Carlotta. As a member of the Durmand Priory, she knew a great deal of her family history. Her great-great-great grandfather, Ein Ridley, was an elementalist from Ascalon and was among the refugees who fled to Kryta with Prince Rurik. He then started to travel the world.
At 19, the sylvari who had adopted him left without a trace. The only clue left behind was that it was “a calling.” Basil believed she finally understood her Wyld Hunt, something she often spoke to him about. She left beind her fern hound, Witherfang, to protect Basil. In retrospect, Basil feels like she knew he would leave home—that was what his training was for.
Current Status
After the defeat of Zhaitan, Basil was too shaken with grief to be effective in the battlefield. His superiors granted him leave, for the time being. His mentor, a norn Guardian named Ashald Svellfiskr, had perished in the final push on Arah. The two were incredibly close and not even a post-humous promotion to Warmaster could make him feel her death was worth something… even Ashald’s sister thought so. Basil took it upon himself to deliver the news to Ashald’s family and while her parents were proud of their daughter’s achievements, her sister Akna was angry with Basil. Ash had sent her letters daily and often boasted about her “incredible rookie partner.” How could he let her die?
They would not meet again, until several months later, on Southsun Cove. Akna had decided to become a traveler to honor her sister’s will for her to inherit her legend. Basil was still on leave, at the time. He helped defend Lion’s Arch from the Karka in both attacks. During the final battle against the Ancient Karka, he exhibited resourcefulness that reached the ears of Vigil superiors, which resulted in a promotion to Warmaster. Akna apologized to Basil, afterwards, for her treatment of him. Once again, they went their separate ways.
Currently, with the Molten Alliance of the Dredge and Flame Legion, Akna’s family had been displaced. Basil was called to the Shiverpeaks to help her family move to Hoelbrak. On their way back, they were attacked by Dredge and Flame Legion. They repelled their attackers and finished their trip, but now Basil and Akna were both curious. The two are now officially traveling together to find out what they can about this alliance…
(Post was considered too long. Second part below…)
I tend to pop on just to talk with friends, when I’m bored. Occassionally they’ll have something to do. If not, we just talk. MMOs are essentially glorified chat rooms.
Yeah, I did have it backwards. At the time I was thinking that Primordus was the source of energy that was powering the Central Transfer Chamber and therefore was why it was a hotbed of magic. Then I applied the logic to Orr, but Konig’s got a very interesting point about the potential of the dragons not being finite.
On top of that, I still think that the world we haven’t seen yet (not Cantha or Elona) has their own problems with different elder dragons.
Basil Wilding, a ranger and overall lighthearted fellow. He’s not so much of a goofball, as he used to be at the start of his adventures, though.
Chop down the Pale Tree and save the world from those with pollen allergies. Seriously, you Sylvari have to do something about the pollen you all apparently drop.
I started off Scoundrel, but by the time the Pact entered Orr, it turned into Diplomatic. XD
>_>;; Guess this is a new form of World Invaders?
I mentioned this before in another thread as well. If we’re going to see a “purified Orr” , I think we are going to see it in the areas of Orr not included yet—the area going towards the Scavenger’s Causeway. This way the people who haven’t finished Victory or Death still have their Orr and those who finished it can move on with their story and say, “Hey, I actually did something.”
My younger brother bought the “strategy guide” (AKA a waste of money) and they have pretty much a summary of the campaigns. They don’t address the hero as one person, but as a collective. In Prophecies, it is “the Ascalonians” who joined the White Mantle, ascended, and prevented the Titans from coming back.
That and I recall it beng said somewhere else in this forum, that in game that the stories related to the hero are JUST being discovered. I do also agree with Konig that in all honesty, outside of how we like to imagine our characters, the GW1 PC is really not that good with thinking long-term. A true adventurer.
So, effectively, those of us with allergies would be kind of in trouble in a battle against a Sylvari. xD Unless somehow magic is Tyria’s allegra.
Check in a couple weeks. The story updates on the 26th.
It’s subliminal messaging. While the players are busy fighting each other for control, the ducks will rise up and reign supreme!
Oh, god, those guys…
(edited by BunnytheSwordsman.4173)
The problem with that is Arenanet’s not likely to do another one time event, in the vein of Lost Shores. We still haven’t explored all of Orr, it wouldn’t be fair to the newer players to have them play the first part of the personal story in a purified Orr. Most likely the other parts of Orr (closer to Scavenger’s Causeway) will be our “Purified Orr.”
It’s not what everyone wants, but I think it’d be the most likely outcome and a fair one for both those who haven’t finished the personal story yet and those who have.
It depends on the face. Some of the older male faces definitely look to be late 20s-early 30s and others are mid 20s. …then there are some that look like they belong to children. Though for the sake of roleplaying, my ranger is pretty much 20 years old.
>w> Let’s see here…
here you go
fhdaslhflasfhlaj >w< I luff it.
That is actually along my lines of thinking as well, seeing as basically they’re just feeding. It’s understandable for them to be likely to fight over their food.
Yeah, I noticed that too. I remember my first time doing it involving lots of deaths and repairing. My party had a few of those, but I don’t think I was good enough to not die a single time during it.
