There are plenty of things to spend karma on in the game.
I think they just need a greater variety of skins, regardless of rarity.
Arenanets armor skins artists must be pretty busy doing something else because I honestly was expecting more variety in weapon/armor skins and styles.
For a game that sold itself on horizontal progression I find it quite amusing that there is such a lack of variety.
I think the biggest problem are the WvW players. They have a lot of Karma stock piled. I know some people with more than 2 million. I have over 1.4 million.
There are so many ways to implement magic find in creative ways its not even funny. I can provide you a list so long you’d be able to wrap in around Arenanet’s offices 13 times.
Magic find on gear is redundant, detrimental and completely nonsensical.
I would have to agree that the combat system does need some tweaks to make it more interesting but, what REALLY needs tweaking are NPC’s.
You could quite literally face tank any NPC and kill them by just pressing your auto attack button once. It’s almost as boring as chopping a tree.
There are no threats in the world. The world is so safe that you could cross it from one end to another blind folded.
(edited by Calae.1738)
A dragon in WvW would be cool. It should just fly around and toss fireballs causing structual damage and blowing people up. It would occasionally torch the ground and roast players into charcoal.
It should only be targetable and brought down by balistas.
My contribution to market manipulation (evil chuckle).
In 2013 there appears to be a token reward system where you’ll be able to hand in 5 tokens for 10 unidentified dyes. Depending on the availability of these tokens it may be reasonable to assume that dye prices will drop significantly due to increased supply.
I’m surprised you could tolerate this kind of gameplay for more than 5 minutes.
Steal, C&D, Backstab.
I would of been bored in 30 seconds.
In my opinion there needs to be a hard cap on certain stats when downscaling. NPC’s in low lvl zones die too quickly and are virtually no threat to a player even half asleep.
@Calae.1738: Reading your post only leads me to one conclussion, you dont have a clue how many of those classes work.
Both the comments about memser and guardian aswell as the one about necros are just very much off the mark. Then regarding Engineer its a taste thing, afterall its a steampunk fantasy setting, so how do they not fit in?
No combos on guardians? What, what, what? There are plenty of self executable combos/fields on their weapons, GS alone has 4, 5 if you open up with a staff. Add traits on that and you have an even bigger system for combos, not fields and such, but actual devastating combos.
Condition damage weak? Uhm, no, since a necro can stack them very quick in high stacks. They also have very high survivability, debuffs and condition removals.
Mesmers have the easiest burst in game and still keep very high survivabilty. Critting your enemy for around 18k-20k in a few seconds is pretty sick. It requires the right gear and trait setup. Confusion is not the way to go if you wanna kill things. Get a GS and a staff, very high damage from both phantasms and your shatters. iZerker crits for around 6k, iWarlock 6-7k depnding on condition on target, add 20-25%% to both those if you open with your 20-25% vulnerability stack, 3-3.5k shatter crits. Thats alot of damage in a matter of seconds. My iWarlock got off a few 13k crits yesterday in one fractal, had some nice might stacks and such, was a fun group.
Its fun as a mesmer when you have 3 illusions out and the thief uses shadow refuge, mind wreck on the spot where he stealthed and he turns up downed when stealth breaks.
I’ve tried them all in SPVP. Far too simple and get bored really fast. My brain literally shuts off. I find that there is nothing innovative about thier skills and utilities. There is no skill for me to master. No timing, no careful positioning, no complex combo to execute and setup.
It’s all just… press this button and this happens…. press that button and that happens.
Double Dagger elementalist is literally the only thing that is keeping me playing this game.
I know what you mean. The classes feel very stale and boring.
Ranger
I can’t get this class beyond lvl 10. My brain literally shuts off from how boring it is. I think the reason is due to lack of combos. There are no creative ways to use skills and no interesting mechanics.
Thief
The stealth ability added a cool element to gameplay but, it got old fast. I got this class to lvl 40 before it got so boring that all I was doing was stealth and autoattack.
Warrior
I got it to lvl 20 before getting bored. This class is almost the same as a Ranger except more boring. It feels powerful but there are few utilities that makes gameplay interesting. Most of the Warriors attacks are automated. It feels like flying a plane on autopilot.
Engineer
I can’t play this class due to serveral reasons. It breaks immersion. I feel that engineers are completely out of place in this game. Thier back packs are esthetically ugly and gives me the impression that my character is a hitchhiker. They have gadets that are weird overall and make no sense.
Mesmer
The combat mechanics of this class are unrewarding in so many ways. Confusion. I deal damage when my target attacks. What? The clones and utilities are cool but this class has no mobility and feels slow. Very slow.
Guardian
More utilities than Warrior but, still boring. No combo system. It’s just some cool utilities and fancy auto attacks like the warrior.
Necromancer
This class is beyond boring. Condition damage is very weak. No burst damage. No fancy utilities and no mobility. What you have here is a class that deals damage slowly and has a lot of health. You’re basically a tree.
Elementalist
This is the only class I play because it’s the only class that I can play. It keeps me awake. Every other class makes me fall asleep at the wheel. Literally fall asleep. This class has combos, mobility, condition removal, burst damage. It has it all. The attunment swap system give you 20 abilities to juggle which is double what other classes have.
Hopefully the open world will be worth doing and have rewards on par with fractals in the future. Having taken 5 years to build 26 zones only to have them completely empty after 4 months is quite a monumental failure in developement.
Lets design something that is very easy to do and takes a very long time to finsih. It is so easy that a bot can do it. Yea…. a bot.
That my friends is pure design genius right there.
Lets have more please.
As a desginer I would have the armor styles go from common looking to exotic looking. Making someone look powerful just by the visuals isn’t complicated. You can add effects on the armor such as glow, shiney and magical auras. Other exotic technicques such as embedded jewelery, blades, spikes, skulls. You can make a lvl 1 character look like a warlord.
Nudity will find its way into MMO’s at some point. There is a market for it. No developer has tapped into it yet. The average MMO gamer is in thier 30’s.
However, Arenanets target demongraphic is the same as Blizzards. Try to get as many age groups as possible in one big adventure that’s fun for the whole family!
Mature content themes will be in much higher demand at some point. I’d say give it another 5 years or so.
Guild Wars 2 is rated T for teen. 13 years and older.
I think nudity requires a mature rating of M 17+ or an adult rating of 18+.
Loot is an efficient way for companies to monitize content at a low cost.
What costs more money to produce?
1) A virtal 3d model using existing textures with higher stats?
2) A new skill with innovative gameplay mechanics that has to be extensively tested in PVP and PVE environments?
anyone got any news about this? am not talking about Guild Halls.
talking about have your own house really hope the get that.
What would you do in your own house?
What if they are just prepared for the inevitable inflation of currency and are planning to add in platinum once most of the player base has 1000+ gold in liquid assets?
There are clever ways to add gold sinks into the game. My guess would be that they will do this at least once per month. The reason why is simple; they want to add content every month. Since adding content costs revenue they have to find a way to generate revenue every month.
If people don’t have a reason to spend gold then gold isn’t worth anything. It won’t matter if you add platinum, sea shells or popsicle sticks as a currency. If there is no reason to use them to buy stuff with it; they will all be worthless.
(edited by Calae.1738)
The reason people skip is because of the disparity in difficulty and time it takes to complete the fractal.
Swamp and Water is basically a free fractal. There is nothing challenging about these 2 and that’s where the real problem is. I would argue that swamp and water be removed or resdesigned to be as long and hard as the others.
Ascalon is just badly designed. I would not design a fractal where NPC’s are fighting NPC’s. That’s just bad game design.
Thats funny. Every other profession bores me. Only 2 weapon sets and less than 4 profession skills.
What they should do is build every profession like the Elementalist and give them 4 weapon sets and 4 profession skills.
Awww the 130g pendant will end up being vendored for 5s. What a shame.
Imagine if every week, one zone in the open world is selected as a dynamic event hot spot. The whole zone is upscaled to lvl 80 and NPCs / Dynamic events are on steroids. Powerful and dangerous creatues with good loot roam the land setting towns ablaze and stomping on unsuspecting players. Large groups of NPCs would constantly assault strategic locations on the map that players have to coordinate and control. These assaults are not just melee NPCs but also ranged NPCs and seige weapons.
WvW is still a very popular sandbox that is always full and has queues at peak times. I hope that Arenanet realizes the potential they have with creating the open world as a sandbox through dynamic events.
There is so much potential in this game. I’m sad to see it go to waste by poor mangement of resources.
If you were a developer and could design your own elite skill for your Elementalist, what would it be?
-Name of Ability
-Description of Ability
-Ability Type
-Cast time
-Cooldown
-Rage of Balthazar
-Your body engulfs into flames, burning foe’s around you. Your body emit’s a blast nova of intense heat every second for 10 seconds; dealing direct damage and inflicting burning.
-Aura
-Instant
-60 seconds
If you don’t kill your target in your first combo as a burst build, you will get owned by a bunker.
It’s too late for Legendary but not for Acsended. I don’t care if Legendary weapons have thier stats upgraded to Acsended; if they don’t there will be a kittenstorm.
I’d like to get an Ascended weapon in a meaningful way. I want it to be so kitten hard like having to do 30 insane jumping puzzles in 60 minutes. I want to dodge fireballs or explode into flaming bits of chunky salsa if I don’t.
Because they are just awesome looking crafted weapons.
I hate story quests in Guild Wars 2 and I would hate to do some story quests again in order to craft Legendary weapons. Boring ..
I already crafted myself Juggernaut and now almost done with Predator. For me it was great acomplishement. I dont play mmorpgs because of quests, in fact I found them always boring in mmorpgs (maybe expect swtor)
I play MMORPGs so I can run dungeons, kill bosses, farm material/gold, pvp, obtain best gear, customize my character.@ SpyderArachnid Legendries were always just skins, dont know what are you complaining here about
Btw .. The tier is called ’’Legendary’’, not title and I think their skins are Legendary, really awesome looking weapons.
So … Complete story quests in order to craft myself best looking weapons in-game? HELL NO.
It was a great accomplishment? I have difficulty understanding this statement. Could you do me a favor and elaborate on this a little more? What is it exactly that made you feel like you’ve accomplished something?
Well It took big effort to harvest all the material, gold, badges, etc. in order to craft it
you know …
So … In real life when you buy that big dream house you always wanted, with money (not by doing story quest) you dont call it accomplishment?
I would …
I BET, you didnt even try to craft it yet and yet you are whining about it
lol
Dude, anyone can work, save money and buy a house. Anyone. The only people who can’t or won’t are classified by you as being lazy. I understand your logic but, that’s not Legendary. That sounds like work.
What you consider an accomplishment is what I consider something very easy to do that took a VERY long time to finish. At the end you’re like… “Oh thank God that’s over.” What you probably felt was relief. Not accomplishment.
Because they are just awesome looking crafted weapons.

How hard could it be to create a story behind a weapon? If the weapon is treated like a character then it has meaning. It has purpose. It makes the player who aquires it have meaning and purpose.
A very long and challenging single player / multiplayer quest line that takes you to the corners of the world. Making you fight the deadlist of creatures and overcome the most challenging of obstacles. Now thats epic.
What do we have now?
Well… lets see. I can go to the supermarket and buy it or I could grind for months, play the Mystic Casino for the parts I need and make it myself.
That is some aweful color over-saturation.
I agree with the ban as well. Although we can argue about this forever; exploiters are a minority and they will generally continue to exploit. Deleting thier characters should teach them a valuable lesson. Hopefully; they don’t come back to the game.
You need a much larger sample size. Sometimes I salvage 3 rares and get 9 ecto’s and other times I salvage 3 rares and get 0 ecto’s. You need a sample of about 100+ rares to be somewhat accurate. Master Salvage kits generally returns 1 to 1. On average you’ll get 1 ecto per rare.
Took them 5 years to build the world. 5 years. Your average person completed it in 1 month. Sea of Sorrows. A whole new level 80 zone. I don’t even see a single person in it.
Sometimes I wonder if these developers even know what they’re doing.
If Arenanet lets WvW die this game will die. The only part of this game that shows any consistant activity is WvW. If Arenanet continues to build upon and improve this part of the game then GW2 will be immortal. Everything else pales in comparison. Dungeons get old. Dynamic Events get old.
The trinity in other mmos takes absolutely zero skill. So long as you know what you have to do and when and your gear is up to par, you cannot fail. You may as well play DDR on your keyboard.
I find this statement funny. Anyone who makes this remark clearly has zero experience in true endgame content in other MMOs. Have you ever killed Algalon the Observer? Maybe Akylios? How about any boss from Final Fantasy 11? I would wager any player who says the trinity takes zero skill probably played WoW to level thirty and quit.
The most basic of endgame encounters in any other MMO you can mention put GW2 to shame in terms of challenge and skill requirement. This isn’t an opinion, it’s a fact.
The game designer’s at Arena Net aren’t very good at making challenging end game content yet. Healing and Tanking are old systems that are obsolete. Breaking that mold will take awhile.
Might be fun for awhile but, it’ll get boring.
A Mug thief who steals and Dagger Cloaks will insta-kill you too.
So…
We got Dailies… We got Monthlies…
What about Weeklies?
Every week a random zone in the open world gets upscaled to maximum level. NPC’s and dynamic events are on steroids. The world is being assaulted by huge creatures, seiged by dragons hurling nuclear bombs from above and massive waves of ground forces “steamrolling” through players.
Most video cards are not fully utilized in Guild Wars 2. My GTX 670 is quite literally twiddling thier thumbs. My CPU is working like hell though.
The current system ensures that a single player needs to be able to do ALL of those things. It just in no way requires that this particular single player is the one who owns the resulting weapon in the end.
But doesn’t this defeat the purpose of this weapon being hard to get, instead of just being expensive? If the final product can simply be bought, why can’t the components? You do have a point, but the end result is the same either way…a legendary weapon you can acquire with nothing but gold.
I can think of a few other instances in GW2 where people combining bound/karma-purchased items in the Mystic Forge has resulted in bans. I do have to say that I do not support these bans, but the fact is that they happened. That sets a clear picture of Anet’s views on using the MF to convert bound items into profit. Everything about this just looks like a massive oversight, not how it was intended to work.
Legendary Weapons are only bound AFTER you equip them. So if you decide to make one, and then later decide to sell it or give it away, that’s the player’s choice. If you equip it, it’s yours forever.
People are getting so mad that you can buy a Legendary weapon, making it seem as though it’s that easy. Tell me, how many Legendaries have you purchased? You must have many since they’ve become widely available.
The only people you’ll be able to attract are fish. I agree that there are a lot of fools out there willing to part with thier money. No one here is angry at you. We’re just angry at Arenanet for reducing the value of Legendaries to something that someone can buy at the supermarket.
“Whoa… Where did you get that awesome sword oh great warrior?”
“I bought it at the supermarket, it was on special.”
The only people buying potatoes are speculators. No one needs potatoes. Trust me.
Legendaries should be reserved for players who accomplish legendary tasks. Tasks that are extremely challenging. Tasks that are bound by lore and guarded by creatures that chew you up like as if you were bubble gum.
In its current state; these items should be called jewelry. That’s all they really are. A shiney piece of metal. Guess what other types of species are attracted to shiney pieces of metal?
Fish.
(edited by Calae.1738)
Swamp: You can climb the tree to your left and hit Mossman from the tree. After he vanishes he will glitch for the duration of the fight. Essentially you can auto attack AFK kill him.
Ice Shaman: There is a cubby where you can hide in and range auto attack AFK him to death.
Arenanet, seriously. Get your kittens together.
I’m glad you are ok with Anet allowing us to sell our items on the TP. But please don’t be mad that I decide to sell something (which took a lot of time and effort) for a profit. If you can’t afford to purchase my items, you can always try to get your own. I’m not twisting your arm to spend money on my stuff.
You’re still missing the point. One problem with the concept of legendaries being tradable is the fact that we were told pre-release that they were to be earned in-game and could not just be bought. The issue many of us in this thread have is that legendary weapons being available on the TP means that anyone can just buy it with cash, without even playing the game at all. Of course, you don’t buy it directly with cash, but cash is easily transferred into gems with a few clicks, then to gold with a few more. Someone could by a legendary weapon on their first character before they even got out of the tutorial instance, and all it takes is a credit card and a few minutes of their time.
I would like to add something to this as well.
The fact that a Legendary can be sold for money makes it worthless in my eyes. It is no longer worthy of its status; Legendary. It’s just a rare and expensive piece of jewelry. In a game world, this piece of jewelry is totally worthless.
Instead of showing to players around you that you’re a great and powerful warrior that has surmounted great challenges; you’re just gold buyer or a item farmer.
When I see someone with a Legendary weapon I feel sorry for them. Like someone on a wheelchair.
(edited by Calae.1738)
If Arenanet is okay with selling legendaries
Arena Net sells gold.
Are you really surprised that they are selling Legendaries? You guys fail to realize that Anet doesn’t sell Legendaries. It’s us players who do.
And to put it simply, if you don’t like the fact that we have these for sale, don’t buy them. We aren’t forcing you to do anything against your free will.
How do you know they’re not selling Legandaries?
It makes perfect sense to me. We might argue back and forth and question thier business practices but to me this is so obvious that a blind man could see it.
Arena Net sells gold.
Are you really surprised that they are selling Legendaries?
Arena Net’s current PVE endgame is designed around the lowest common denominator. The end game is brain dead easy. You could be mentally challenged, slam your hand on a one button mouse and be successful.
If they made the engineer shoot guided nuclear missiles that 1 shot kills 50 people I bet a bunch of people would find that fun too.
Stability doesn’t make you immune to cripple and chill. Only stuns, knockbacks, pulls, daze.
