Don’t. I’m on my third in six months. The current one works in terms of button functionality (first one was DOA, second lost all button functionality in two weeks), but none of the LED’s do, or when they do (sometimes), they will come on at a random point in time – usually in the window of 15 mins to an hour after turning on my PC.

Yeh, my Naga is a touchy piece of kitten. It sometimes doesn’t want to track at all even after re-calibrating it and using different mouse pads/surfaces. I’ve had it for less than a year.

Ok, your response looks closest to what I was looking for. It doesn’t look like you need a Turn Right key or a Turn Left key. I mainly auto run and strafe while attacking. I just am not sure if I am missing out on some movement skills during combat because I don’t have the Turn Right and Turn Left key bound to anything.

Not at all. I used to play a different game with turn left/right on a/d and strafe on q/e but have moved to just strafe with a/d. Much easier and faster to control directional movement with strafe + camera hold/turn.

It is interesting looking at everyone’s keybindings, though.

Honestly I use staff with sword/torch for my shatter build in WvW roaming (solo or small group roaming) and I do perfectly fine and can handle most specs reasonably well (except maybe certain thief builds and PU condi mesmers, but then again I can choose to ignore PU mesmers and they won’t kill me).

You pretty much just have to live with most people escaping from you as a mesmer. Even if you use a greatsword if an Ele, Warrior, Thief, Engi, Ranger really want to run away from you they can no problem. Even med guardians can do it as well and other Mesmers due to stealth. It is a problem across the board for a mesmer.

That’s the spirit! I actually tried out GS / Sword+Torch last night and, boy, that torch insta-stealth is pretty nice. I think I still prefer a focus for my off-hand for swiftness.

Yes, as this person mentions, if someone really wants to bounce out of a fight, they will. Just know that them disengaging to either reset or not mess with you again is a compliment. I think we are all used to that 20% HP warrior that runs away and doesn’t come back.

I don’t like runners, so I am a fan of the GS / Sword+Focus weapons.

The staff’s ability to keep you alive is REALLY nice. I hope you have fun w/ whatever weapon set/build you choose. Test many things, see what you like best! As I mentioned before, there are builds here on this site as well as on other sites. Give em all a try. I test stuff in HoTM cuz I’m broke!

Redg – A mesmer using sword mainhand will want to use it to lock you down for a big burst. Be a kite master. Be very wary while you are in their 600 range. Yes, the torch will give them that much more stealth to close that gap, but make sure to keep an escape (dodge, invuln, phase retreat) for when they attempt that lock down (sword #3). Keep them at max range since your greatsword does more damage w/ the auto attack the further away you are. Try playing one to see how they attempt to close the distance and burst. You will have a bit more luck predicting their movements while they are in stealth, simliar to playing a thief and having a better feeling of when to dodge that backstab. I’ve been practicing GS / Sword+torch for a day (lol, it’s for a GvG and I was suggested to pick up torch), but if you’d like, I can meet you in HoTM to practice.

If you’re playing a thief, ho boy. It’s a tough fight, but a very fun one! Have you asked a decent scepter ele to duel? I dueled one for hours and only beat him a handful of times. I had to re-trait my shatter mesmer to fight him, though (zerk amulet vs assassin’s amulet, illusionary invigoration vs illusionary elasticity, mender’s purity vs shattered concentration). He can down me in less than a second if I stand still to let him burst me. :X Fun fights, though!

I got a very lucky first hit stun chaos storm on both of you which gave me 10 stacks of might instantly. During this time I swapped to gs and used my mantra to stun both of you again to get 20 stacks of might from while casting my izerker. From there I mirror bladed, mind stabbed, and mind wracked in the course of the 1 second stun to down both of you almost instantly.

I would not mind in game messages at all! They’d be nice reminders of where I can see some action. I imagine the farmers in ice place would like something to watch while killing monsters. Im not for necroing threads but a more telegraphed cast animation should solve the complaints. Make purple feathers surround the mesmer when he casts the skill.

There is a purple aura surrounding the mesmer. Example 1. Example 2.

If you listen, there’s also a very loud, annoying sound being made during the moa cast. (This sound is almost the most annoying sound made by mesmer. The #1 sound made by mesmer is the mantra cast! Very trolly sound, lel.)

Learn to fight as a Moa. You can actually kill a squishy mesmer as a Moa. If you are not comfortable with that yet, #5 makes you dash far away from the fight (just make sure to un-target any enemies). You can use the “look behind” key to see if someone is going to attack you and save your two dodges for that. Unfortunately, if you can’t even see/hear the telegraph for the Moa, you’re not even going to be able to dodge an attack….so RNG dodge! After #5 and #3-ing away, that is. I hope this helps.

I used to main mesmer in tpvp probably before you even knew it existed (Shatter not skyhammer cheese crap ofc, 2 years ago when you could still hold close portal mid tw and wipe..) and pulling ppl down is not how mesmer is supposed to work …i can assure you…and for sure i can shatter/nullfield/thievery someone and then temp curtain him down…even a monkey with no hands can do that…like i won’t play bunker guard with 3 stability and hammer or thief with scorpion wire (Even if i can play all those classes) just because i still have some self respect…ladders are broken anyway (I found myself top 10 time ago with this account for no apparent reason for example) and i rather loose than winning playing stuff more suited for mentally disabled players..

Funny thing is that all those easy mode mesmers on skyhammer just reroll on any other map because outside pulling ppl down they usually can’t do kitten , many of them also running pu and stuff…most ppl on skyhammer can only magnet, scorpion wire, temporal curtain, fear (and so on) ppl down to their death while on other maps thay just get outplayed all day…and that’s just…sad…

I’m ok with giving nabs a chance with easy mechanics but this map is way too much…

Also, mesmer can work many different ways, not just how you think it should work. ^~^v For solo Q, I almost always have GS/Sword+Focus anyways. It helps against the 3 thieves I always seem to get matched up against. _

To be fair I think mesmer has the best tools for thee sky-hammer shenanigans. Everybody always lists thieves but all they have is scorpion wire (and fear if they steal form a necro) which is very unreliable, and requires more setup and positioning than fears/knockbacks. While I dont think mesmers are that much stronger than other classes on this map, I think their cc + boonrips puts them at the top of the food chain(on this map only). Mesmers can carry kitten skyhammer

It depends on the player’s ability to use their utils/attacks correctly. I get shrekt if an engi comes up to Skyham, has his tool kit/gear shield thing up (so I can’t pull), throws condis on me and/or swaps to rifle and blasts me over the edge. I can also get shrekt while I’m trying to pull if the engi catches me walking over the glass pane to break it, they throw their net on me and I fall down to the worms, LOL. Just typing this is making me crack up. Also, how about them 10 yr fears from necros? The little area up there makes it hard for me to fight against hambow wars. The fire AoE burns my buns and then I get CC shrekt by their hammer. Skyham is so trolly.

You don’t really need the pricy food or stacking sigils. You don’t even have to have exotics. As for your connection, the people in Straya know dem feels, LOL. Some of the skillful players I know play with lag. From what I hear, you’ve just got to be on your toes and anticipate/be super fast with your gameplay.

As they said, ^, when you find yourself getting frustrated, step back and gain some perspective. The pew pew rangers inside towers? They just want bags/kills, not a fair fight. That’s how they have fun. I forgot to mention you should be a mini map gazer. Watch what flips, when, and how fast. You should be able to skirt around the zergs and gank squads. The gank squad that just took you out? They’ve probably been run over by the map zerg at least once that day/night.

Oh. If the stars align and I happen to get a 1v1, I party the person, whether I downed them or they downed me, and ask if they’d like to have a couple more duels. You make a friend and get to goof off for a bit and QQ about zergs. XD

Here is the build I use now. The energy sigils help you dodge moar (create more clones to shatter). I use Illusionary Invigoration vs Illusionary Elasticity when I am solo. It really helps you have access to your shatters when you hit 50% health. I go through a lot of food because I’ll start with the Lemongrass/-% condi duration food when I roam and when I see an enemy(ies) doesn’t have lots of condis, I’ll swap to my power food/Curry soup. I switch weapons depending on how I feel like playing that night, BTW. ^~^

Please don’t judge these vids too harshly. I know I’m some kind of terrible, LOL, but this is what you see in Silver league and even in Bronze League sometimes as a power shatterer that roams solo.

Fighting a staff ele near her buffed camp. – I don’t mind open areas. It gives me space to move around and really put my 1200 traited blink to use. You’re going to want to learn to kite and also think of what their next attack is going to be like. In the end, I am fighting two eles and it’s just too much for my skill level, especially because the sylvari ele is a decent player.

Now if the players are new to the game or their class, that is when 1+ players is managable for me. These two guys seem pretty new. Normally a necro and engi should be able to kill me pretty quickly.

Also, these guys made a few mistakes. A few of them pushed into a buffed camp and wiped probably because of the RI supervisor. :X FYI, skip to the middle of the vid. The first part of the vid is there because a friend asked me to show how to flip a camp w/ my build.

Fighting two thieves. If I were a bit better at mesmer stuffs, I think I’d have downed one at least.

Here’s normally what happens to me. I try to engage 1 to fight and others peel for him. Cue Lich form or Supply Crate, a burst and emote spamming. XD

I really hope you stick with the solo roaming. I know a lot of people have stopped solo roaming and go with gank squads now or even the zerg. Whatever you decide to do, I hope you play the game how you enjoy. Perhaps you could duo roam with a thief or a guardian. I’ve seen more and more people opt for that. Good luck & have fun! ^~^

I solo roam in WvW all the time. ^~^ It can be fun, even if you do die a lot as a solo shatterer. I eat lemongrass food before I leave spawn. It helps with the condis a lot of people are running with. Oh, and I have Hoelbraek runes. I trait for the 1200 range blink to get out of sketchy situations. I don’t run a lot of condi clear (mender’s purity, arcane thievery, null field, mantra condi cleanse, etc.) because I’m going to die if I get pew pew’d or ganged up on while already engaged in another fight. I use blink, mirror images, decoy and mass invis. I watched a little bit of the video (am at work :X) and I could not see his food/runes/etc. If anyone has a link to the build, I’d appreciate it! If not, I’ll check tonight at home. Good luck in WvW!

• <Insert Season> track – rewards similar items granted from event farming during Mad King, Wintersday, Jubilee, Dragon Bash, etc.

Yeah, I recently fought a charr mesmer and I couldn’t see kitten on my short kitten mesmer, LOL.

Hmmm, phantasm build might be good for duels. I think shatter build would work better for your 3-20 WvW fights. Rip boons, shatter, use mass invis, be on gank squad – these would be great for team plays. Phantasms might die too quickly to be effective in a 3-20 WvW fight what with all the AoE.

Not presumptuous, just observant. I look at it this way, if what I said doesn’t apply to you, then you should have no reason to take it personally. If it does… well then, there’s the rub.

It is true. There can be humble, knowledgeable players who have learned tricks of the trade, and they wish to help out their fellow gamers by passing along that knowledge. Those, I have no problem with. It’s the ones who get the snarky attitude, and they begin to talk to others as if they are On High. They approach any conversation with an attitude that reeks of, “Other players should feel privileged that they would descend from on high to speak with them.” (cue bright light). Those are the ones I have serious issues with.

All the highly skilled mesmers I’ve met have been super helpful. Then again, I tend to look past the attitude and glean what I can from what they say/do.

it is not even “the most popluar build” it is a gimic spec that only works if you avoid all objectives in game or are carried.

PU condi is great for roaming in WvW. It is not great for mid-high level PvP matches. Not sure what the PvE popular build is, possibly a power phantasm build?

I think it’s very popular in WvW due to the survivability of the build. You need some survivability in WvW when you’ve got zergs all over, gank squads in between and condi thieves you can run into.

Mesmers who point to PU as a Training tool or training wheels, There are better builds and better situations out there to let newer players to learn how and when to use F1-4, what weapons to bring and use, and when to use them. etc…

Mesmers that only find class or self worth out of the ability to win a Duel. sPvP or WvW, doesn’t matter on this one, ya’ll are annoying.

PU condi build is a great learning build/training wheels build. It’s hard to lose with this build. It’s Mesmer: Easy Mode. You can start taking away the training wheels by adding more power/less condi/toughness to your build. With the PU condi build, you learn the basic attacks using staff, scepter/torch. You use decoy, maybe moa (<_<), mass invis, blink, some random stuff you try out because the build is very forgiving – then you start to see which ones work better with your playstyle. You win a good amount of fights when an enemy decides to actually engage a PU condi mesmer. You may start getting annoyed at people walking away from you. You may also start to notice it can take a long while to kill with this build. Maybe you switch it up and go to a phantasm build. You def see a difference in your DPS and you do kill things faster, but you’re a bit squishier! After awhile, you wonder how you can counter certain classes/builds you have trouble with, so you play those and learn the ins and outs of other classes/builds. It’s a process. And this is my confession as a mesmer that started Blackwater and is now Shatter. XD I even still have my rabid gear, haha. PU condi build training wheels for the win!

Whoa whoa whoa. Just because some of us like to duel, doesn’t mean we are annoying. :O What about mesmers that pride themselves on speed dungeon runs? Whatever floats your boat, mate. Mesmer class is fun. Some of us like the challenge of pitting our mesmer against other people’s classes/builds vs the challenge of soloing Arah or something. I prefer playing against people vs NPC’s. Also, isn’t PvP and WvW a player vs player (vs player) type of situation? o__O You go in knowing there are other people out there wanting to kill you. O__o I’d rather kill than be killed, mate.

The entitlement from some posters, woaw! When I started mesmer last year, I searched “mesmer WvW builds” and “learn to mesmer.” Both led me to this forum with a ton of builds and way more info than I knew what to do with. How is this hidden, secret knowledge? It’s up to you to look for info if you are struggling with a class.

Ok, now to get back to the topic…what kitten y things do other mesmers do? Hmmmmm.

Run super cheesy condi builds, roflstomp almost everyone, then proceed to gloat and BM the person they condi’d while stealthed.

Mesmers that don’t use any of their shatters! Even if they’re a phantasm build.

Mesmers that are super tanky. Why?! :P

PU condi mesmers that BM you when you walk away from their condi spam.

Mesmers that stomp the clone when you’re downed. lol..

Mesmers that stand in one place and auto attack.

Condi mesmers that claim condi builds take more skill than shatter builds.

When PU or on clone death mesmers whine about the nerfs coming this week. XD

This build isn’t really meant for 1v1, and this game wasn’t really designed to be balanced for 1v1. So most of the time, actually all the time I lose if its a average thief..
It doesn’t matter how many outplays you do like interrupt/timing bursts at right time, in the end they should be winning majority of the fights. Yeah once in a while you’ll win like 1/10 fights from them messing up and you catching their mistakes. But overall they’ll win all of it.

For phantasm mesmers I lose all of it also, I mean I’ll win 1/10ish fights from catching their mistakes but the build itself they should be winning all of them also.

As for changing gear/runes/traits/weaps, I don’t do any of that because 1v1’s don’t amount to anything to me. I like to think of it this way, condi thieves/thieves/phant mesmer ai builds literally do nothing in team fights. So they’ll be losing all of the 2v2-5v5 scrims, and thats why you don’t see those specs being played in spvp or high level spvp also.

Yeah, I know this build shines in group fights, but I have fun with it in 1v1’s. A lot of builds are really hard to deal with 1v1, though. AI builds, condi heavy builds, high sustain/steady damage builds, stealth/high burst builds…LOL. Thanks for answering my questions. ;-;

S/D thief is always about timing your hits,using diverson.and time your chaos strom+ileap.
phantasm mesmer is tricky but best thing is to out-stealth him,and excute your shatter burst perfectly,and never let him get more than 1 phantasm up(try to kill the phantasms).But they are both hard matchups indeed.

It is so stupid that necro have staff #4 skill that it is better than any condi removal we have….and the cd is lower than all our condi cleanses(not including the mantra)..

The mesmer I couldn’t beat had half knight’s gear and used greatsword, sword/pistol. I started with same weapons, I’m zerk. I switched to staff vs using greatsword. It seemed like he could generate phantasms faster than I could kill them. Should I switch weaps/sigs/runes? Change some gear out to get some more survivability? I thought a bit and came up with two main ways to try to beat the build:

1.) Tank the phantasms and focus my phants/shatters on the player. Try to take out phantasms if they’re close by him. I can’t tank his phants for very long without changing to tankier gear.

2.) Outstealth him – except the duelist can track me in stealth and it eats away at my health. He can constantly summon his phantasms. I have problems focusing damage on one phantasm to kill it while another phantasm is downing me. It’s definitely tough to beat a build where the AI is constantly after me and he is is stealth/feels tanky.

^ yeah the amount of effort/plays you have to do VS. them being worry free during duels is such a huge gap. But yes you can win but it won’t be as much as the amount of wins they’ll get in a 1v1. But you’ll be more viable/useful in teamfights.

I do, but I don’t just roam. Malferian also solo roams in WvW. Supcutie and Helseth do a lot of PvP, but they’re def worth watching.
