its doable, the trick is surviving the inital agro then using your skills and kiting to keep them from all beating on you. Wall of relfection works wonders for the scouts.. Its jsut takes ages.

But nm, decided to quit trying to play “properly”, joined the zergball and had several hours spamming staff 1 in WvWvW earlier……..an insane amount of loot bags…..and whats more you can play by just sitting on your keyboard! (same for any prof ikittenerg).

Ok, lines of warding and walls of reflection are pretty fun sometimes.

No game should rely on a 3rd party for what is a pretty basic feature of any modern MMO.

GW2 needs an LFG badly, finding people to do some dungeon paths other than the “farm” ones, is a nightmare in game. Relying on a 3rd party out of game site, is amateur at best, incompetent at worst.

I was supprised that it was not in at launch as Anet themselves said any MMO releasing now (when it did) would have to include an LFG. And no, that does not cover the appalling “flag” system they have now that no one uses and hardly anyone even knows is there.

As for whether players want it, and should it be a priority:
at time of posting GW2LFG.com has created 3267512 groups.
I think thats a pretty big demand for the feature.

How many groups are formed is a lot less important than the percentage of players who use it. As an example. A single CoF path 1 run can be run in under 15 minutes. There are people who spend all day doing this. I could care less about them. That’s potentially four groups an hour. It’s more important to know how many people by percentage need the feature, rather than how many parties are formed.

And we know Anet is working on one anyway, they’re not going to finish it faster just because people nag them.

Not to mention, most triple A MMOs have NOT launched with an LFG tool, including Rift and SWToR as well as Guild Wars 2. I don’t know why people think MMOs launch with that.

I cant track down the quote right now, it was on the beta forums I believe, when Anet addressed LFG and said that any game launching in 2012 needed a workign LFG at launch.

Okay it wasn’t said here, but it’s been said in several other threads. My point is many games, triple A games launched without one.

And guess what? Anet does have a looking for group tool, of sorts, in this game. You can flag yourself as looking for group and people can see you as flagged as looking for group. It’s been in since launch. It’s not a great looking for group tool,. but cut the crap about Anet not having one in at launch. What they don’t have at launch is the type of LFG tool you want…which is why someone made that website in the first place.

So if Anet said no game should launch without an LFG tool and they included one, you’re out of line anyway.

But it’s a sucky one. They’re doing what they’ve done with everything else. Launched too early and play catch up. That’s why guesting was late. That’s why the culling solution took so long. That’s why suddenly NPCs can move their lips when they talk.

So stop saying there’s no looking for group tool and say instead that the placeholder looking for group tool isn’t cutting it.

it is a sucky tool, it was sucky in swtor and they realised that quick, and its been sucky in every other game thats tried just flagging.

We really need one,.

I know Anet says its working on it, but I think a little friendly prodding to make sure it stays a priority is not out of order. I’m not haviing a hissy fit over it, but just nudging Anet in that direction

Question is.. why do Anet Force us PvPers to get 100% on pve maps to be able to get a legendary. . And then theres the dungeons…. PvEers cry to much when its the PvPers who are forced 95% of the time

because you dont have to queue for pve and you dont have to rely on chance as ot whether a heart task is available for you to get …..like you do in wvwvw.

Different things.

That said. I think they should be separate, pve and pvp should have separate completions.

nope. Got straight in to BL with no queue at all about 21:30, and onwards to gone 11:30.

could not believe the amount of VS in there though. they seamed endless and running multiple zergballs.

levelling is pretty fast, and if you want to WvWvW, just do it.

You can still contribute, and capping bases is loads of XP, if you cap SM, there is a level all by itself usually!

I’m pretty sure knocking people off works exactly like pulling people off. It depends on what the edge is like and how far they are. You can totally knock people off walls. Hell, even the NPC lord has knocked me off at Lake and Briar towers.

every time I use hammer 4 the person stops mid flight when they hit the edge of the wall and drops the the to ground on top of it, rather than flying over the edge.

it used to work properly in beta, then Anet said they thought it was not fun to be knocked off a wall….but left pulling people off walls in.

Anet, you changed it so that, unlike early beta, you cant knock people off walls as you said it was not fun.

Yet you let people pull others off walls…..what the hell is the difference?

There are a couple fo people in the JP in EB that just sit there, pulling people off. How is that any different from using knockbacks?

Can we get some consistency? Either allow neither or allow both.

I did however cheer when a certain other character got pwned…..annoying little pillock.

As for DE having more to do with the story, I really dont want that as I cant stand logan after than awful writing in the book from a very poor author who could not handle the job given them. The less I see DE the better.

“open world pvp” means ganking. Thats all.

So keep it out.

Go into WvWvW and play on equal footing.

Not sure the scaling system woudl really work, and it woudl allow ganking. You are much more powerful in low level zones when you are downleveled than normal players in them. It would be a gankfest.

WvWvW scales everyone up. Whereas PVE scales people down, but still leaves you more powerful

I don’t think I should have to do PvE for my world completion. Why do I have to do PvE maps instead of just the WvW map? I think they should only limit it to WvW maps for completion and not all that other stuff.

Get some people together and take the objective.

I personally think that pvp and pve should have separate exploration rewards.

But add in more goals to pvp. say heart tasks at each keep that have requirements like “kill enemies”, “defend objective”, “capture objective”, “build upgrade” etc. To make the pvp more on par with pve completion.

And then add separate reqards for each when you get 100%.

Then pvpers can just pvp and pve-ers can just pve without penalty. and if you want to do both, thats fine.

it takes no skill, it just requires luck to be online, and get through the queue when your side has the points you want.
Then make it across the map, trying to avoid the zerg with nameplates highlighting your positions halfway across the map.

And you take up a spot, of a very limited amount available, from a player who may contribute more to the server winning.

No idea why Anet force pvp on people who dont like it. Not that WvWvW is pvp, its mindless zergballs, no skill, no challenge, just pure spam zerg numbers fest.

yep I am at the correct locaiton.

I’ve got it previously on other characters, cant get it on this one. I assume its to do with living story, which is annoying as I have no intention of doing that on this one.

It seams a little bit absurd to lock a poi behind a living story gate like this.

edit: ok, thats weird, can get there on another character who also has not done living story…….no idea what the hell is going on here.

There is a guard blocking entry to the war council POI, he knocks you back every time you try to enter.

its the last poi I need for that map, no way to get it as far as I can tell.

The part where half my guild got stuck on 1 server and the other half is on the new server, that part is horrible.

Server went HIGH after 13 of us xferred over and now the rest of the 50 are stuck on T1 server still, forcing us to pay to transfer when we were under the impression it wold be free..

yeah, that part… very poorly implemented.

not really, the idea was to transfer to medium servers, once they hit high, the reason ceases to exist.

But you could just transfer early in the morning…when its medium..

I actually started leveling a guardian recently (since I favored defensive warrior builds in WvW I felt a guard might be a more natural fit) but I have considered each point you raise and each one concerns me right now leading me to wonder if its wise to continue, PVE fun or not. I’d like to be able to keep up with the zerg and contribute at the fight without being FORCED into using the staff. I’d personally prefer scepter and focus for ranged battle ( I think right now) and melee is still a point of argument for me. I mean GW2 is supposed to offer build diversity right?

Anyway, does anyone have tips for a newish guard on how to deal with these issues?

I wouldn’t listen to his negatives on Guardian. While guardian’s weakness is mobility, keeping up with a zerg is no issue. I run with greatsword and sword/focus. Use Greatsword 3 to lunge forward, and find a critter in the distance and use sword2 to warp forward. I normally use retreat all the time, your commander should be calling for static fields before they start running, use focus5 as a blast finisher in those to make area swiftness.

My favorite part about Guardian in WvW is how unstoppable we are. Someone mentioned stability and that’s definitely a strength.

I don’t run the most ideal WvW build, it’s just my own spin on an AH build. I use full Knights with PVT weapons and sigils of energy on both sets. I just lunge right into the heart of enemy zergs and do a bit of damage and come out alive nearly every time. I’ve only recently got this guard to 80 and geared him, but I haven’t lost a 1v1 yet and had my first opportunity at a 1v2 today and won it. Granted it was a Ranger and Engineer but still.

With knights gear and protection up you really don’t take much damage at all and retaliation does a toll on your enemy.

I have a full armor set of PVT as well but I don’t feel like I need to use it much. It’s good for retaliation builds but with full knights I definitely do respectable damage. Around 2k-3k whirling wraths depending on the target. It’s not much but it will force a dodge.

Sorry, but speed is a major issue in wvwvw. And we lack it, perhaps more than any other profession (possibly not mesmers).

And keep warfare….sitting behind a door spamming staff 1? thats engaging gameplay is it?

When we do get to fight, we are pretty kitten awesome. But its just that unlike any other profession we have large amounts of time where we are at best marginally involved, and more likley totally useless between teh good bits.

Esp now there are karma pots, its just uncessary to have to shunt them between characters, just pool the karma per account and cut the character swapping and bank shuffling.

Dont get me wrong i love my Guardian.

However, the above points were what caused me to go mesmer at launch after playing a guardian in beta.

I recently returned to the game, and picked up my guardian again, and I’m keeping out of WVWVW on him, for the above reasons which still persist.

He’s great when you can get infrantry fights, but sucks at keep warfare, and has real speed issues unless you build your spec entirely around speed, and even then its sub par compared to other professions.

It’s actually fair to have a limit on players in WvW, just like there’s a siege limit. Otherwise you’d have 10,000 people in EB vs 20.

The wvwvw limit seams somewhat low compared to server size.

Actually you did. You were a snide tool and should have helped them instead of expecting everyone to know how to skip mobs like that’s what you’re supposed to do.

This is why I hate dungeons. People like you. Not everybody knows how to skirt around content for the sake of speed and in all honesty I wish ANet would bottleneck dungeons so you HAD to fight some of the trash. Then maybe people would learn proper kitten teamwork.

People have to realize there are people out there that only play Wv3, and are forced to do PvE content ( a lot more than PvE has to do Wv3 content) to get their legendary, yet they all just suck it up and do it. Is it annoying to have to do Map completion in Wv3? Yes. Is it Annoying for Wv3 people have to do 12 zones ( I believe ) to get Map completion when they would rather be Wv3ing? Yes

But nothing in PVE 100% requires you to wait in 2-3hour queues, or is reliant on getting a group of other people to zerg points so you can get the relevant points of interest and vistas.

You can get 100% pve entirely solo on your own time.

Its the pvp bit I object to (though it is stupid to require that), its the fact that wvwvw is not accessible to many people at any one time (about 100 people per server per map) and is reliant on factors beyond your control.

The culling changes are fine, however nameplates show up halfway across the map, so small groups get spotted easily and get pwned by mega zergs.

This just encourages zerging more.

So can you please turn down the distance at which nameplates show please.

Thanks for the link, thata worrying, did not realise the caps were so absurdly low. 500 people originally stated is low, given the amount of people on a server, for it to now be less is absurd.

Such a small proportion of a server can get in wvwvw, it explains the stupidly long queue times. Its not world v world, its barely guild v guild.

They need to add more maps to up number of participants asap, that should be their total priority.

I dont mid caps, i understand the reasons,

But my issue is linking world exploration to wvwvw, having to wait 2hours in a queue to even get in, then hoping you can get to the places you need is annoying tosay the leasplus whilst getting 100% i am not contributing to my team, so taking up a place.

Please split pve exploration from pvp and add separate rewards for pvp 100%

I always thought anet missed a trick with de’s that could have been so much better. Whole zone events like in rift.

The centaurs should periodically invade allmof kryta, in a flood of cavalry, sweeping down fromthe hinterlands and if unchecked right into queensdale….sadly events are much more local.

The undead could invade the shiverpeaks in a massive flood, the branded in the dragon brand, bandit raids across kryta. Things that go beyond the local events in gw2 and capture the epic feeling of de’s in rift. Nothing like 80players steamrolling across a zone clashing with endless enemy forces, battling to the enemy champion and downing them in an epic conflict…..

Gw2 does local events really well, but fails to capture the epic feeling of larger zone or regional events could have done.

I got hit by a zerg, I got downed in seconds, and then about 80 players ran past and no one finished me off. so I recovered.

If thats not a demonstration of server lag, I dont know what is. None of them even saw me, they were just running round SM spamming non-target attacks…..

Fps is not the issue. The issue is latency, and thats server side not client side.

what happened to the lag….its just gone mental in there. 3-5 second delays on abilities.

FPS is fine, but latency is through the roof.

They’re vanity items. They’re supposed to be expensive.

If they are just vanity, then remove level restrictions, remove stats and put them in the gem store like other vanity items for a similar price.

If anet put them on the gem store for £85 a set, there would be uproar….but thats exactly what they have done by pricing them like this.

Oh wait, they are not just vanity.

Xp is tuned too low, esp now that events are notvas frequent or quick.

If you just follow the zones, you’ll be behind.

I dont pay sub fees anymore, the only one i have is rift where i bought a long sub bundle.

I now prefer to pay for content i like, rather than pay and have to live with what comes out.

Its never made much sense to me.

For stuff like this available at set levels, a character should be able to reasonable make the gold necessary to purchase it at that level.

Sure you can say “its just a skin”, but why not just make it cosmetic then? By attaching stats and level reqs, Anet are indicating that it shoudl be obtainable at that level.

Its not.

Plus compare the cost of cultural amour to the cosmetic skins. At current exchange rates cultural armour costs about £84 or so. Yeah ok.

The reason I’ve not got a group to play with is that they all left. I personally liked this game, and wanted to get back into it.

Never mind, your toxic attitude has convinced me to leave. Sorry, you keep burrying your head in the sand whenever people bring up quite legitimate concerns, just dont be supprised when it gets all lonely in you “perfect” game.

It may come as news to you, peple can raise issues, and not be attacking the game. Nevermind, such a nuanced concept is no doubt beyond you.

You’re either:

1. Trying to do areas with mobs 10+ your level.
2. Trying to do group events alone.
3. Trying to kill champions alone.
4. Wandering WvW alone.

There’s no reason you should be having any trouble doing regular dynamic events or other regular pve content with your guardian, no matter how bad you are, heck I can solo many of the group events with my warrior.

I also never really had an issue of “zones being dead.” Sure, some are more populated than the others, but eventually, you encounter someone and there’s usually always someone linking events in the map chat.

you see, your assumption that I am a total noob and cant do anything is not only arrogant, its wrong.

If you cant be constructive, instead of posting like this and being defensive why bother?

Speaking from personal experience, my first 80 was a mesmer, my second 80 a guardian.
I found the guardian a lot easier. It helped that I was leveling armorsmithing on him and had him always with green / rare quality armor.

It seems that you dislike doing the heart guys, but you should really try and do them, as they allow you to get green quality armor / weapons, which makes it a lot cheaper than constantly buying it off the TP. If you have some spare gold I would definitely advise you to train armorsmith/weaponsmith on your guardian. It will help to get gear through the levels, you gain some experience from crafting, and you can make a tidy profit along the way if you bother to do the heart guys and get the karma recipes.

To level I did lots of hearts and a great deal of events. In my personal experience there where very few that I couldn’t finish even when there was nobody else around. If there where a champion mob it would definitely make it a lot more difficult if not impossible, but there are enough events in the game that I could easily skip those ones and move on to a more forgiving one.

Can I ask you in what server / region you play?

On EU, Desolation is usually good for guesting and my own Piken Square, although a medium pop server is usually well populated in almost every area. I’ve been able to do events even at unlikely hours like 4am. From what I ear Tarnished Coast is a good server to guest if you are from NA.

I found the mesmer incredibly easy to level, and to pvp with, its almost impossible to die as a mesmer, and you can pick up a huge number of enemies and take them down at the same time to compensate for somewhat lacklustre single target dps.

Its not that its hard, its just that its a bit tedious. I played a guardian extensively in beta, but the lack of decent ranged made me go mesmer at launch for WvWvW reason. Thought I’d get back into my guardian.

Its not that I dislike heart tasks, its more that I see them as a reason to get you into an area to do the DEs there, not as teh main content. Lets face it they are not that interesting or inspired!

Its not that I cant do some events, I can, and some just take an insanely long time, with little reward. But some are clearly not scaling properly.

I’m on Far Shiverpeaks, which used to be quite active, but zones seam really really dead now, at least in lower levels, not been to the higher ones yet since I came back in.
I’ll try desolation (was on that one on beta) and see if its better. Thanks for the recommendation.

If you are getting one shot as a guardian in open world PvE, you are doing something wrong. Most likely you have not updated your gear (costs 5-15s)

If you want to just level running around the open world and worry about finding people, guest on Tarnished Coast or Jade Quarry.

I’ve got the best gear I could find, if you can recommend where to get some I’ll go take a look.
