Yes people have access to other content, DEs are part of that content, therefore you will get the server population attending world DEs. Dungeons are your friend, they are the ones limited to the number of players and there are DEs in the dungeons, those sound right up your alley.

How about we talk about events rather than dungeons? Event zerging is a problem, agree or disagree?

BTW reading back, if particle effects are your issue, maybe its time to 1. Turn down the graphics or 2. Upgrade the computer I don’t have an issue with them normally, even in these zergs.

You don’t have a problem when 15+ people are spamming their skills on a boss? Really?

Actually there is one. Rift has an option to show only your spell effects on a boss. problem solved.

Less players showing up is a great result. Some of the my best moments in this game are when me and maybe 2-3 other people show up to an event. It’s much more challenging, way more dramatic and tense, and there aren’t a zillion particle effects mucking up the combat, so I can actually SEE what the boss is about to do, rather than shrug my shoulders when I hit the ground cause I got one-shotted. I actually add WEIGHT to the fight, and it’s a much more intimate experience, because these 2-3 other guys actually rely on me. Is it a coincidence sPVP is 5v5? No, it’s because this game’s combat really shines with that amount of players.

You say people need easy access to content. There’s plenty of that. Hearts, vistas, waypoints, personal story, points-of-interest, crafting, dungeons, all of these things give you exp and other rewards, and all of these are easy to find. I don’t even think my proposal would be that hard to find anyways, for the reasons I’ve already said.

I already said let events that were built for alot of players have the zerg. You don’t need to be snarky. How about you actually address my arguments?

I disagree with your stance in principle. I like massive player events, my favorite ones are when loads of people turn up.

My issue is they need to be made harder to failure is a real possibility, but I dont want it made harder to get involved in DEs. Its annoying enough as it is to find them sometimes.

I dont know why there’s so much negativity towards this idea. WvWvW is an endgame for most people. When you’re level 80, there’s really not much else to do besides farm for gear, run dungeons (usually to farm for gear), sPvP, or WvWvW. Why shouldnt a lvl 80 get priority in the queue over someone who’s, say, level 27, and still has a dozen more zones to explore and complete to level?

Remember Anets philosohpy? the entire game is endgame.

So my level 1 experience should be the same as my level 80.

Also, this will never ever happen, if it was possible why create the upscaling system in WvWvW? its desinged to allow all levels to compete.

All it will do is result in people levelling 1 level 80 and swapping to that for wvwvw, and oh look , back to long queue times for everyone. No the issue is long queues. No one is entitled to skip ahead, the fact that some people think they are just shows how selfish players can be.

A guy said something really true, fun and gamebreaking :

“What people need to realize is that there are are a good number of people who are lvl 80, in full exotics and only want to play WvW for 5 hours every night and they aren’t getting a chance to due to queues. This issue needs to be addressed.”

and those people who want to level in WvW? why should they be bumped down teh queue? They paid the same for the game after all.

No the issue is too low population caps. Any attempt to prioritise queues will not work and create resentment

yes, supply is important, and escorting dolyaks is necessary and content for the solo player/small group, not everyone wants to zerg.

Bring back the dolyak XP, removing it was not addressing the real problem, that the rewards for other content was not incentive enough. Or that there was issues making repeat dolyak escort preferable to other content.

Dont tell me how to play Anet, If I want to escort supplies and support my team that way, I shoudl be able to. Its like other MMOs penalising people defending flag bases with poor rewards, no matter that its a vital part of the game.

maybe make it so dolyaks keep walking until they find a keep without supply and the event only ends there? That way the endless short dolyak events would go, and the dolyaks would make their way into contested territory.

yep, been an issue since BWE1, its better than it was, but its still pretty bad. Lack of a decent ranged weapon is why I am not playing guardian, despite it being my preferred class otherwise.
Thank god I’ve come to love my mesmer.

repair does seam somewhat prohibitive, one death is 2 renown hearts worth of silver at level 70 for instance, and then you add in travel and so on…..

Your bumped to level 80 so basically you have the hitpoints of a level 80 but you do noewhere near the damage or have the armor. a true level 80 can 3 or 4 shot a true level 10. when your fighting out there you can tell who is really high level and not just by the dame they take when they get hit

so what you are really arguing for is a better implementation of the scaling system.

downed is great, it adds a great tactical level to pvp, and its really satisfying to make the dash into enemy lines to get a finsher off and fight your way clear again, keeps WvWvW realllly interesting!

Now i know some people will disagree with me but this is how i feel the system should work.

Higher level players always get bumped ahead of lower level players in the WvW que.

This is why. (1) This is the endgame for most level 80s not much else for them to do. (2) higher levels are more effective than lower levels and help their server more. Its about the server winning = more bonuses for the server helping others. now i know there will be more skillful, better lower level players but in most cases that skilled player has level their character and knows how to play them better than the new guy who started yesterday. (3) This system would give more inncentive to level your character so you can go and fight for your server. Now lower levels can still get in just have to wait longer and im sure eventually the que will dramatically get shorter or go away

but everyone is the same level in WvWvW. you are no more entitled for a spot than a lower level player, lose your sense of entitlement please.

Clearly this doesn’t apply to level-capped players, but have you considered targeting content at a higher level than your character? I prefer difficult content, so personally I tend to look for content that’s 2 levels higher than my own.

a vaild point, however its not really a solution. The issue is that failure events are never going to happen. Centaurs will never get back their camps in harathi hinterlands, and so on.

Events where things like centaurs attack to retake their lands, need to get harder and harder with each sucessful defense until eventually they win and the event chain moves the other way, Right now the events seam locked in ultimate sucess mode.

Failure needs to not only be possible, it needs to be probable if people dont play well and work together.

under water weapons are fine, absolutely pwn people who I catch in teh lake in borderlands and can take on whole groups of enemies underwater in PvE.

But our downed abilities suck, both underwater and on ground. Whats more, using our underwater abilities in downed sometimes makes you unable to swim up,

Not sure on your points, as the game already works exactly as you suggest.

What I’m saying is event notification is too far-reaching.

And yes, I acknowledge that some events trigger with an NPC shouting at you. What I’m say is ALL events should do this.

The game is too zergy. Sometimes events have a good mix of players, but not often.

It happens already.

Notifications are usually pretty localised already. and its only larger zone events which are longer range.

NPCs act as event criers for most events already.

If you shorten the event notification even smaller (and I think its too small as it is) then it will become hard to find events, as they are the main PVE content thats bad, I dont want to run round for 2hours looking for events, fearing that I missed them because I did nto get stupidly close to see them happening.

Its giving me bad flashbacks to early RIFT. Where players spent the entire time just using instant buffs to max out contribution.

This needs sorting because right now you are encouraged to just nuke harder the whole time in a mindless and selfish dps fest.

Who contributes more? The one that dps’s all the way through but does not ress people next to them., of the person running round ressing to keep the group alive and so the fight is won?

Does the warrior nuking contribute more or the guardian using support abilities to keep people alive? The elementalist nuking aoe or the mesmer buffing the whole group?

I’d love to see how you pick the “top 3 people”, the current contribution system is already screwed up enough.

I’m fed up with getting low rewards despite being at events 100% fo the way through.

I think its down to several factors:

1. Not being a nuke burst dps spec. So I dont do enough dmg when the aoe fest happens to always get credit for mobs. Mesmers have ramp up, either DE event contribution needs to change, or mesmers need more burst dmg.

2. Ressing people. It does not appear to count as contribution, but I@m sure that people want other players to ress. Right now it seams to penalise you for ressing people.

3. Server lag, for large events like the shatterer, just look at the QQ in the chat from the sudden lag that affects most players, its server side and its really annoying. And they you get no reward….

Contribution needs to be fixed, its not a case of L2P or do more, its a case of poor design and implementation. Some professions just dont do enough burst dps to get awarded contribution, and acting for the good of the group by ressing players seams to actively count against you. And there is nothing you can do about server lag, getting 70+ fps and yet waitign 10secs for an ability to go off as soon as the dragon lands (but chat is still fine) means it serverside processing capacity.

The issue is Anet increased server capacity, but did not appear to increase WvWvW capacity, which was a bit silly. Anet really need to up WvWvW max pop or it cuts a large part of the game out for people, only 200 people per map on a large server is not nearly enough.

I don’t know if this mesmer I ran into in WvW had a fantastic build that I have yet to discover or what, but as a mesmer myself, I did not understand how they constantly had 3 illusions up. And even when I was completely sure which was them, I was wrong. I would almost call hacks if I wasn’t too prideful to give them such a compliment. But whatever they were doing was amazing.

you weren’t figthing a sylvair mesmer from Desoltation were you?

Whenever I run into people in WvWvW when they are alone or as a pair I jump in to attack them, using a mobile build with blink and clone summon on dodge, and phased retreat, I can keep myself moving all over the place, and keep 3 clones up no problem. With 3 clones up my heals are pretty strong and I am stacking conditions on you really quick.

You’d be supprised how many people lose track of which is me. Yes sure, its easy on paper to say that one is me, try it when I am pounding away at your health bar, dodging, teleporting and laying down chaos storms on you. Gets a tadge more trickly then. And with timewarp I can usually nuke one player down very quickly in a 2v1, stun the other player and finish the first off. Then its one on one….or rahter 4 on one with my clones out. Even a tiny amount of time forcing you to think which is me, is less incomming dmg to me and more of you health pool gone.

use the totems and stuff to make inscriptions (or whatever they are called for tailors), the things that say they add +power etc to a crafting recipe.

you combine those with the mats for say a boot (upper and lower soles) to make better boots (+power ones if you use a +power inscription).

he cant run, he does not have teh speed and mesmer stealth is pretty short, so just look round for him, Its not like he is a thief who can stealth for ages and then speed away so no one can catch him….and has imba burst dmg.

Yea i find that problem a lot too, unless i’m fighting a group event boss, it takes time for mesmer damage to achieve max dps. I guess you could call it a dot oriented dmg class with little to no burst dmg which makes doing events really obnoxious as even though you’re buffing the hell out of everyone you’re not getting credit for helping.

It provides the same problem as trying to heal during an event, you don’t get credit for healing.

Makes ya just want to roll a thief and spam your instant burst dmg during events and get credit for EVERYTHING.

and also get to stealth and run away ridiculously quickly…….

Blink is great for traveling distances and is on a relatively short cool down. While running with a staff I always drop a chaos field in front of me there is a good chance you will get a speed boost buff from it when you run through it.

yeah I do that, and I still watch most of the zerg disappear into the distance.

What about in terms of stat priority?

for condition build obviously stack conditions dmg. for a straight dmg build stack power.

decide how you want to play, there are 3 main mesmer styles:

Conditions – usually staff and stacking conditions on enemies, slow intial dmg but ramps up to large dmg and can take multiple enemies at once easily.

Shatter build – use fast summon weapons and utilities to keep the clones flowing and shatter them quickly and repeatedly, can use traits to make high burst dmg

tank – combination of mobility, illusions and distortion to make you virtually unkillable.

No passive speed boost means I cant keep up with the group in WvWvW and sometimes in Dynamic events, and when I do the conditions and shatters take time to set up. in a heavy aoe situation I am not getting credit for pplayer or mob kills.

I am increasingly getting frustated by my Mesmer. for soloing or 1V1 pvp its brilliant, but if they run I cant keep up, even with blink and such, it just does not match the passive speed boosts of other progressions.

Can any other mesmers suggest a solution, other than re-rolling?

Any suggestion for a fast upfront dmg spec? or am I going to have to shelve my mesmer until Anet remove passive speed increases and just up run speed by 25% across the board?

I think its because I’m a mesmer and so my dmg ramps up, I participate as much as everyone else, but dont get much credit as it appears you have to do a certain amount of dmg…as most of my dmg is conditions or shatters, thats just not feasible in a zerg or an event.

So I get sod all Xp, kills or whatever. Please fix as right now unless you are an aoe burst profession its pointless.

Also, give mesmer a passive speed incread, events are over before I can reach them sometimes as the group just gets so far ahead!

In earlier Betas, they did give Karma, but it has been a long time since we took that out.

why would you do this? they spawn karma vendors….so logically a small amount of karma woudl be nice and make sense.

esp as getting unlucky with DEs not only leaves you behind the levelling flow but also undergeared.

The details of this topic are far too unclear to find a potential cause and will likely receive no attention from mods and/or technical support personnel. Are you talking about a drop in FPS, or are you experiencing network latency (some users will notice this as a delay in skill usage, ‘bouncing’ characters, etc)?

If you are in fact experiencing increased network latency, I recommend running a tracert to determine where the latency is coming from. On Windows OS, follow these steps:

1. Click the ‘Start’ button on the bottom-left corner of your screen
2. Navigate to ‘All Programs’, then ‘Accessories’
3. Open up the ‘Command Prompt’
4. Run the following command: ‘tracert www.guildwars2.com’

This will give you a list of the nodes (points of connections such as your gateway, WAN, ISP, etc) that your connection goes through. Usually, you will experience anywhere between 8 and 15 returned nodes (called hops). To determine if the latency you’re experiencing is in fact server-side, you should be able to see a clear separation between geo-physical locations such as one hop representing your city (it should be in the address name) followed shortly thereafter by a different city.

If the largest returned response times are between the first hop and your city’s hop, the lag is likely due to your ISP or gateway (router/model); vice-versa, if the largest response times are outer-city hops then it is much more likely to be server-side.

If network latency is not the issue, and you’re talking more about a drop in system performance, this is a natural occurrence and ArenaNet can do very little to offer support. In those cases, reducing visual display settings is an easy solution (more specifically: Particle effects, Bloom effects, and Anti-Aliasing). Depending on your system and monitor, enabling Verticle Sync may also provide some improvements.

no, its only during events, its only when big dragons come down. FPS remains high (70+) and movement and chat and so on are instanct. What is not is abilities and this happens for alot of people only on events, what this means is that its the server having issues processing all the information. Its Anets side, its exactly what happened in Rift and they solved somehow, Anet need to do this asap, as its wrecking the large epic events that are a big draw to this game.

Don’t res people for reward. Res people because it’s the nice thing to do, and it’s called being a team player.

It would be nice to have a reward, but that shouldn’t be your reason for doing it.

Which I do, I’m jsut annoyed that I get less contribution for being a nice person, whilst the selfish person next to me gets more.

no that was my point, it should count, but it does not so there is no incentive to do so. it actually counts against your contribution….

do the same event like kill the centaur chieften. one time just dps the next ress a few people, your contribution will drop massively.

I believe this particular issue is something that we need to fix on a case-by-case basis; in other words, it really helps if you can let us know exactly where you were when this occurred via a video/screenshot. Alternatively, if you bug it with the in-game bug submitter, we’ll automatically get your location and be able to investigate it. Thanks!

cant really, it happens all the time. the skill is on short cd and used pretty much all the time, I’d be submitted tickets every 10mins.

Though I will try when I can. Thing is it usually happens mid combat and yes you can usually fight mobs still whilst under the map, which is why it could possibly be exploited.

Not getting loot or contribution in events sometimes due to lag in game. On big events like shatterer game lag gets stupid and no rewards at all despite 100% particpation.

Quite frankly its unacceptable, I want to take part in epic events, but I want to do so and have fun not a lag fest (only game it happens in, even Rift runs 100% fine at max on biggest events). And I want loot and I want contribution. You really need to fix this stuff as my game experience is lacking when it comes ot the “epic” events.

Also make ressing give contribution, it counts against you,, only dps seams to work.

For events such as the shatterer massive lag (not usually present) makes them pointless.

You cant do anything, and you dont get contribution or a reward, also none of the fight mechanics seam to matter as you dont take dmg….

On a related note, there is no point ressing in a battle unless it looks like a wipe as you lose contribution and wont get a good reward. You shoudl do what Rift did a ditch the contribution system and just reward participation without scaling it.

Some of the mesmer ports (possibily for other profs aswell) when used have clipping issues, and you end up under the map swimming around.

This is particularly the case for Staff skill 2 on the mesmer.
