It would be nice if any of that was actually true.

Unfortunately its not, the reason VS dominates is that it has much much better coverage than other servers. And runs in humongous blobs. A VS blob is a sight to see, its massive, the whole screen goes red with enemy nameplates and resistance is futile.
Not knocking it, thats how you roll and its effective.

But those are the reasons VS dominates.

Some examples?
Easy solutions:
-Force people to play on servers based on their timezones (can always guest for pve afterall). This would stop the nightcapping by US timezone based people, making it an even playingfield
-Disable wvw during the servers timezone’s night (for example between 2 and 5 bst for EU servers)

Harder solutions:
-Enhance npc activity/numbers based on the amount of players from that server on the map compared to other servers. Simply create more, give them more hp, more damage or even siege usage, just to make the towers and especially the keeps still good enough defended. That will make it a lot harder to flip everything over night and would even balance between tiers if done well. That way rotating matches wouldn’t just be another server getting rolled over, but would make it challenging even when low activity.
-Stop the seperation of servers. If there is no US and EU based servers and server match-ups, but those are mixed instead you’ll see a change in activity for sure, as well as many servers with 24/7 wvw activity. Biggest concern will probably be lag based issues, but again: That shouldn’t be unfixable

I’m sure there are plenty of people who have got some idea’s how to fix it and I realise kitten s not possible to please everyone. That being said: As things are now one of the pillars of the game is getting rather pointless at some point for every server, leading to people quitting or low wvw participation. That should be reason enough to take some bold actions.

Force people to play on certain servers? how exactly? its easy to get around and would split communities. much better to just abandon all regional serversand make every server a world server with players at all times.

And who are you to say who gets to play when? not everyone works standard hours or conforms to your playtimes.

I think there would be a backlash to increased NPC’s in wvwvw,

I think the only solution is to make servers global, then there is no “off time” as thats just another regions prime time.

I dislike the changes for 2 reasons:

1. Arrow carts are the universal counter…they counter people, rams, catas, trebs even. they shoudl be anti-player but do ZERO dmg against rams and seige.
2. the WvWvW ranks are adding real power, I hate that. Its introducing pvp ranks and power assocaited with them. what next? seasonal increases in pvp gear?

Low levels zones (ie ones you outlevel) you want to jsut rock power and go full on dps as you wont be in much danger from anything.

Higher level zones, Orr really, you may want to go more survival a bit.

To be honest, its down to you, keep adding more dps traits~gear until you worry about staying alive. Just swap out your outof combat utlities for Retreat and SY, for the swiftness if you dont use them normally.

I don’t think Anet looks at other games. I had hoped so but I can remember an older interview where they stated that they concentrate on GW2 and don’t look at other games. Which is a pity since a lot can be learned from new mmos, not only the holy old ones.

yep. I’m not saying copy another game, but an awful lot of the mistaktes GW2 made were easily predictable by people who have played games with similar mechanics, I’m sure that the devs have played these games, so it supprises me that issues anticipated even before the public betas were not pick up on, and in many cases remain unresolved now.

We are trying to do some things to make the matchups move around more and should have more detailed information in the near future. However, one thing to remember is that if there is one server that is defeating everyone so handily, changing the matchup is just going to let that server beat up on different people. Which is probably better, so long as those people don’t get stuck there too. Regardless, we know this is a problem and we are working on it.

Mixign up the fights is good, but I cant really see any solution to one server dominating. The reasons for VS steamrolling other servers are outside of Anets control. Its a result of the player base and how we have ended up playing.

signet, the passive is incredibly powerful and you can trait the heal to have a lower cd.

The blocks on shelter are ok, but not optimal, as you may pop a heal when you dont need to block or pop the blocks and waste the heal.

Overall the passive on signet is more useful I find as I use other abilities to keep myself up most of the time, using my actual heal as a last resort.

but, personal preference I suppose.

MF is a bad stat.

It will always encourage people to use it (Esp with the way things like legendaries work on rng), and so they get rewarded for gearing badly.

its the wrong way round, you should not get rewarded for bad gearing. ever.

Take the RNG out of precursors especially and up the drop rates across teh board, and you remove the need for magic find altogether.

Its because I spend more than 80% of my time in WvWvW that I avoid the top tiers like a plague.

The top teirs are the worst WvWvW experience. its not better up there, its just mindless uberzergs, massive lag, queues.

I’d like to shed some light on our thinking with this AC change as well as tell you all what we are doing right now to balance it.

Firstly, when siege weapons were originally created, they had the intent of being really good at some things and not so good at others. The arrow cart is intended to be the anti-personal siege weapon. It is intended that arrow carts are all about controlling an area through damage. If you remain in the area that is being hit by the arrow cart, you will die. You can however, move out of the space and/or find a new way to attack the intended target. That being said, they are not intended to be so good against other siege weapons and we are in the process of addressing that right now. We are also addressing their range when upgraded to be more in line with the range of ballistas.

Secondly, this change is going to require new tactics and those tactics include things like using ballista and catapults to destroy arrow carts. With that in mind, we’ve been looking more closely at the numbers of all the siege weapons and there are definitely some changes that need to be made to bring them in line with their intent. We are going to take a holistic pass at siege weapons in the coming months and drop a rebalance of all of them to get them to more closely align with what they should be doing.

Finally, the feedback you all provide is a very useful part of this whole process. WvW is a living, breathing game type and any changes we make have numerous consequences that don’t become fully visible until everyone starts interacting with them and devising new strategies. Our goal is to provide a complex combat space that rewards skill, tactics, and ingenuity and while we haven’t fully achieved that goal yet, I like to think we are getting there.

In the coming months, meanwhile you most of your most noteworthy wvw guilds will be looking for a new game to play.

Anet has kittening lost their mind.

We already have stigmas that players make from research, spreadsheets, and experiance.

I know for a fact that many of them are just WRONG.

Why not add a Total Damage meter in game? The consequences of not having one have been worse, and classes have been downright excluded from content.

I know it will never happen though, because people don’t know the difference between Total Damage and DPS :/

The most disturbing thing about all this, is that WvWvW ranks are adding tangible power to characters. increased range, increased dmg (and not a trivial amount), conditions, and so on.

Its totally against the level playing field idea that we were sold on. I’m not sure I like the way this is heading, what next? teired gear grinds beign added in?

Depends, with our healing and mitigation, we can get away with full zerker gear, if you can avoid the dmg in the first place. Certainally for pve.

For pvp it depends, youhave a lot of dmg with zerker, but is that what you want? In a zerg, dmg is not really the most important thing, survival is. If you are alive, you contribute, even if you do nothing else. you soak dmg from the rest of the zerg, you provide more targets for aoe to be distributed around, you add to the intimidation factor. So it depends on how your run really,

For pve, throw on as much dps gear as you can get away wiiith and still live, whichis down to the individual, for pvp, esp wvwvw, I’d suggest going more survival oriented.

Nice to see the devs acknowledge an issue thats been around since beta. If they paid a bit more attention to the community on their own website, and less to reddit, twitter and the like, maybe a few more broken issues would be looked at.

I dont think this solves the problem entirely, as others have said the whole projectile system needs looking at, but scepted was awful, I shoudl never be able to run faster than my own projectiles!

Scepter 1 does hit hard, esp if built right. The problem is not the dmg, its that it never hits. it misses NPCs half the time unless stationary.

Events there are not so focussed as in GW2, big events impact whole zone, with staged objectives. The “beat on boss” stage, is at the end, and not the whole summation of the experience.

Go look at the colossus event they added in Storm Legion, multi segment bosses, environmental weapons, multi-stage, and progresses through a zone, actually altering the scenery.

Thats the level I want GW2 world bosses to be. The dragons right now are just static, they sit there, and just face forward….shatterer could wipe the whole group just by learning a new move..“right turn!”.

I suppose the previous meta wasn’t what Anet wanted WvW to be. For example, let’s take guild ownership.

The objectives get flipped so fast in the former meta that there’s literally no point in making one for your guild. If they buff siege up to the point that it’s impossible to quickly take an objective, and make each objective a fortress, then might there be some point in doing so.

In other words, it probably wasn’t Anet’s vision for fast flips. The previous meta was not what they wanted. They probably want WvW to be more like drawn out, perpetual warfare with more meaningful objectives. Yes, that probably will mean WvW will stagnate. That said, the new meta will separate the good commanders from the bad ones since tactics are forced. Also, having few defenders being able to hold off large numbers also depromotes nightcapping.

It’ll interesting to see how this will turn out. Right now it’s simply a matter of waiting for everyone to adjust, or waiting for those who are unwilling to adjust leave. I’m guessing that in the near future, objectives will be valuable enough that people won’t just go do something like “Drain all supplies from X and move to Y”.

He/she gets it. I’m tired of being steamrolled under-foot because some sea-guild nightcaps consistantly night after night in the instances when our “big guns” aren’t around to save us. I’m tired of being just an inevitable smear on the ground in some mobs karma-train. Then having my carcass “bagged” and laughed at in the lord’s room I so desperately tried to defend. Like I was the one whose efforts were pointless, and you cowards can’t take me on in equal terms. There’s no good fight or any measure of respectable PvP in a 4v30+, so that argument is totally moot. We also certainly didn’t get respected for our efforts in trying either.

Defending is actually worthwhile now for those of us who don’t want to participate in your mouth-frothing zergball karma-trains. Someone asks “U mad?” you’re kitten’ing right I’m mad. I do NOT want to get thrown back into just plain ol’ more of the same. Is 80% dmg increase too much? Maybe. We could probably compromise and settle for 50%, but I do not want to step backward to the time when zergs reigned.

Then maps need to be larger, objectives need to be linked in chains and teirs, supply needs to matter more so securing long term supply camps matters bot just flipping them quickly.

Interkeep seige needs to be impossible, aoe limit needs to be removed. Distances for travel needs to increase so zerg response is faster….

But no, lets just make acs stupidly op, that’ll solve it…..

Legendaries should require time and effort, but not mindless grinding. And thats all they are.

And you are right, anet missed out on the lack of involvement with crafting in the process in any meaningful way.

And to rely on rng for such a lot of it? Just no.

But my bigest thing is the dungeon tokens, as you say completing all dungeons? Fine. But grinding 500 tokens? No, you are too reliant on finding groups for it. At least put in a kitten lfg

With all due respect, balancing content like a story instance is completely different than balancing an enhanced jumping puzzle like Super Adventure Box, so for us it just wasn’t feasible to consider doing an “easy” and “hard” mode in this particular case.

Instead we focused our time and energy into making a really unique, polished and hopefully memorable encounter that enables any group of five to complete in roughly an hour. I understand that there are players who will simply object philosophically to this direction, and wish that all the content we create to be solo-friendly, but our company has always been focused around building an online world that encourages our players to play our game together.

For those of you who have taken the plunge and shut down one of the Molten Facilities, thank you so much for giving it a try and giving us your feedback. Hope to see you on the front lines!

I happened to read your response on the thread concerning the disappointment some players felt regarding the dungeon-based ending for flame and frost. I had posted on that thread as well, and although I do not believe your comment was responding to me directly, I wanted to reply to a particular portion of it:

Personally, I am not idealogically opposed to content that is not solo friendly. I personally enjoy encountering dynamic events in the open world and joining in on the battle! And you all have crafted such a beautiful world!

The reason I left the game centers around my personal feeling that although there is a great deal of content one may experience as a solo player in the game, I felt there was virtually no content that one could experience to its conclusion as a solo player: Personal Story, Exploration, Living Story for examples.

That said, I know that each developer has their own philosophy regarding development and I respect that you have clarified that philosophy and intend to stick to your guns. I was feeling very moved at my disappointment in not being able to complete those three portions of the game I had enjoyed so much, that I wanted to let the team know that I was experiencing that disappointment.

One is spontaneous grouping, no organisation involved.

One requires organisation, finding a group, and so on.

Anet i their manifesto said they wanted the first type of gameplay, but are increasingly delivering the second

Mesmer, veil, portal, null field, timewarp(yes evennow its useful).
Guardian, line of warding, might, stability, wall of reflection, sancturary.

You can see that i value group utility and support as the most important thing in wvwvw.

If you value other things, your list will differ, obviously.

There is not absolute best.

People say its anti zerg……its not.

Its anti anyone. A few arrowcarts can stop a zerg now, ok. But that just makes it impossible for non-zerg to take anything.

It also stops things like keeps ever swapping hands unless they are totally undefended. I’d love to see someone try to take a defended t3 hills now…..

There are better ways to decrease zerg dominance.

Thanks guys, your advice has been very helpful. I’ve been trying to focus on using the staff for defense and things seem to be going better. For some reason I’m having trouble getting Chaos Armor out of 5 + 2. Is there some trick to it? I’ve been popping 5, walking into it, then 2ing out.

I haven’t had issues (though I won’t mention Phase Retreat’s habit of gluing you to the inside of walls)… are you certain you don’t already have Chaos Armor (#4) up before hitting #2?

urrgh, its not so bad now, (jumped on my mes a bit again), but after launch for the first month or so, I estimate about 1 in 4 phased retreat woudl put me under the map. And i had to pay way point fees each time to get back ontop of the map!, urrgh.

A couple of things that attracted me to GW2 was the open living world, and this is instanced content (like personal story dungeon requirement!) and the fact that it was supposed to not require organised groups…and this does.

This goes against many of the reasons people were excited about this game. I’m not sure I like the way Anet is headed with this, and also with ranks=power in wvwvw.

Also, stop making WvWvW ranks have a meaningful impact on the game, it was supposed to be reasonably level playing field, a bit of gear differences but not absurd.

Hello! Thanks for starting this thread. :-)

As one of the designers for the Molten Weapons Facility, I would just like to say that one of our chief concerns throughout the development of Retribution was to address this very issue. We worked hard to ensure that the dungeon experience we have crafted is not simply possible to complete by groups of all different skill levels and compositions, but more importantly that it is lots of fun and rewarding for everyone. I understand the concerns about jumping into a 5-man instance if you’re more accustomed to solo play – in fact as a player I typically share those feelings, so rest assured that such concerns have been and continue to be addressed firsthand by our team!

Flame and Frost has so far made use of many of the different types of content available to players of Guild Wars 2. There have been open world dynamic events, solo instances, scavenger-hunts and achievements. In this case, with the culmination of Flame and Frost, given all the tools in our tool kit as developers, a 5-man instance was really the thing that made the most sense for us to pursue, as it enabled us to best tell the conclusion to this story arc in the way that we wanted.

We’re paying careful attention to this balance of content types, and the Living World teams will always strive to offer a variety of content to our players on a regular basis, and to make that content as compelling, and accessible, as possible.

Speaking personally, I hope you’ll join all of us on the Flame and Frost team and give the Molten Weapons Facility a try when it releases next week!

But not a living story.

They exclude everyone who does not like getting groups together due to lack of LFG.

And why spend time on dungeons that will be gone in a month? Add more permenant dungeons. and keep the out of livign story

wvwvw has ranged combat? You mean when you turtle up in a zergball, drop heals and sanc and let the oncoming zerg break against you and rangers pick off the enemy at range?

Thats about the only time ranged matters.

Keep warfare is a seige battle, and even then, its decided by the zerg. If your defensive force cant push out and defeat the enemy zerg, then no amount of ranged will save you, and if you cant defent your seige as an attacker, then you are not getting in.

Sitting on walls sniping at each other does not happen, and if it does its do ineffectual as to be ignored.

As a guardian you have some devastating tools for WvWvW, you should always be at the heart of the zerg, where the fighting is thickest. Staff is amazing as a general support weapon, the shear amount of loot bags you can get with it is silly, whilst still providing masses of group utility. and then you can combine with scepter+offhand for a bit of ranged, (I only do this when taking out oil/cannons), or a melee wep for more carnage.

Not saying I dont want a better ranged option, I really really do, but the lack of one does not cripple your ability to contribute in WvWvW.

Learning to love the staff

Staff is close range, dont use it from long range.

You need to be close, drop a chaos storm on yourself and your target, use chaos armor, keep close so your autoattack bounces quickly, and watch the conditons and boons stack up quick. Dmg starts slow, but ramps up very quickly.

Gs is for range.

Mez has 20 trait points instead of 70.

DE is great i’ll agree, not sure the rest is essential, but its no more restricting than guardians putting 5 in virtues and 15 for voj resets. And the majority putting in points for AH.

There are more popular choices, they are not mandatory.

I’ve hit a point where I expect anything that’s not carried by warriors to be nerfed. Bring it! I’ll dust off my warrior, lay my face on the keyboard and win.

I dont think its fair to imply warriors are faceroll, i believe the intended method of play for warriors is to sit on your keyboard and wiggle your kitten over the keys

Boom hate is just plain stupid.

You should never be penalised for buffing yourself or your party.

Imagine if for every condition you healedthe enemy…….its backwards, and a really bad knee jerk reaction to an issue that avoids the actual problem with the system.

Decisions like this make me to question whether i keep playing. For now its yes, but a few more like this and that may change.

If guardians are being hit with this, they need a massive increase to health, dmg and mobility. Because right now our base levels of all 3are very low, and we need boons to compensate.
Better yet, just make just all warriors……me be warrior, me smash one button for pwn everything in sight….rrrrraaaaghhhhh…….no.

I dont play a mes anymore, so speaking as someone who comes up against them, this is really not a necesary nerf.

Confusion is not that powerful. I am quite often in groups with people kittening about it, and am left wondering what the hell they are on about.
Then I realise they dont take condition removal….

Although it hurts me to admit this, Staff 1 (and 4) are overpowered in wvw, zerg vs zerg. It’s like an never ending aoe, that ticks every second, the auto attack. Just to powerfull. Single target auto attacks, don’t stand a chance against it.

sure its hit a wide range, but its still 5 targets per hit, and it does not hit for very much, and the staff has no other real attack like other weapons do.

Staff 4 is good, but requires you to be rooted to channel, and gets best results from a well organised group who can stack properly.

Only amendments I’d like is the detonate on ability 2 to be a blast finisher like the trident skill )and apply burning but that may be going to far), to make detonate worth it occasionally

really, thats what is hardest for people not used to GW2. in WoW, swtor, rift etc, you stand and take your hits, in GW2 move to avoid them.

Dodge rolls evade stuff, but just sidestepping round an enemy normally can avoid alot of dmg.
Then when you have movement down, get used to using you skills to mitigate dmg. for example focus 5 is a 3 block shield, GS3 is a blind, GS5 pull is an interrupt, sword 2 is a blind (I think, dont use it much) and so on.
Retreat ultility is a block and so on.

Staff is a brilliant weapon.

1. Brilliant spam attack, great for when zerging to spam as you push through an enemy line, or in defense when standing ground under a sanctury against an incomming zergball
2. ok, this one is pretty meh, but it hits a lot of targets if fired into a group, the detonate is pretty pants, but every heal counts sometimes.
3. Great ability, speed boost, dmg, lightfield, heals (when traited)
4. Brilliant ability, 12 stacks of might? yes please, aoe heal? yes please. Good for groups and for solo play, use bfore a weapon swap to GS and smash groups of mobs hard.
5. possibly one of the more powerful abilities in teh game for group play.

If you want to rework weapons, Scepter should be top of the list. Staff is not meant to be a ranged weapon as such, its a group support tool and it excels in that role.

You dont defend keeps by firing off walls. That just wont work against a decent group. You need to either arrow cart them to death, or counter push them back. Group up, charge out and slaughter a section of them, retreat back into keep. Buff, repeat as necessary.

Guardian is in a good place right now, and still will be after the patch.

Both warriors and thieves needed the buffs. Pretty much when you activate might your next three attacks will be unblockable, and the boon hate is a trait.

Also spirit weapons are getting another hp buff.

Sorry, did you just say thieves need a buff? hahahaha.

As for warriors? yeah ok, their pvp is not great, but they need their dmg toning down for pve.

Boonhate is possibly the most stupid idea Anet have come up with yet.
I shoudl not be penalised for using my abilities to buff myself or a group.

What next? when I put conditions on an enemy they start healing?

you lot were not exactly advocating ignoring it in T1. You all moaned continually. And with some justification.

Now you have caused issues on lower Teir servers, you can surely appreciate they may be feeling how you felt, and after all , that prompted your migration.

How did we moan in T1 thread? All our post were constructive. We never called a guild out for something and if someone from VcY did i apologized in game to the guild leader.

As for causing troubles in this tier. The previous thread was full of humor from us and our RP post. As for the match up itself, we had a fun match up and im sure GH will agree . The issue from where i sit is the extra guilds coming to RoS. We can’t prevent that and fact is noone can.

Was not trying to flame, just was poining out that the reasons you lot left (and the reason I myself left) T1 was because of some specific issues.

SFR was full of anti-transfer sentiment due to the influx causing queues, lag and making it so guilds found it difficult to play together.

That same situation is happening now in RoS. Only difference is that its guilds moveing wholesale and not due to free transfers. But that does not negate the issues. Issues you obviously thought serious enough to warrant a server change.

that sad, I usually play professions on the receiving end, and to be honest confusion is no worse than any other strategy. You can counter if it you want to. When people run builds with little condition removal, and then kitten about thngs like this, then you have to think its kind of their fault to be honest.

last Anet post in the guardian forum was over 3months ago, and the was to just lock a thread.

Whats the point of continuing to point of issues identified since the first beta weekend, when its obvious Anet just dont listen. (I’m not saying they need to necessarily just do as we [I] want, but a response would be nice).

Many years of gaming has taught me this: Its not a bad thing for players to complain, it means they care, often quite passionately, about the game. the time to worry is when it goes silent, that means that people have just given up and stopped caring.

Really impressed with how much more roam-friendly this is over upper tiers! Great small scale fights so far! Really loving it!

This tier was roam friendly and will be again soon, but only when bandwagon jumpers like yourself have moved on.

If you wanted roam and great small scale fights why on earth all go to the same server? Do you not understand that this will leave a lot of you not having anyone to fight? and that you will go shooting up the tiers so fast you will be right back meeting the blobs you were running from?

I never understood why “pvp” guilds cluster up on one server. Dont they want a balanced fight where they have to struggle to win, or do they perfer to hold hands and faceroll?

Its doubly ironic given that the reason for the migration was their complaints about VS….when they are doing exactly the same thing to the lower teir servers.

The reason VcY and RiOT transfered together is because we are like brothers. VoTF came here because they are friends with these two guilds also and same goes for FIRE.

Also 30-40men guild group is far away from blobbing FYI.

I dont have anything against your guilds, but the clustering of WvWvW guilds from higher teirs will massively impact on teh servers you moved to. Whether you intended to or not.

Remember, you were complaining about mass influx of people in T1. just because you are established guilds moving to servers, does not make those same issues go away. Its just this time you lot as the people moving in, not the natives as it were.
