I play Guild Wars 2 only because I find it fun, and not because I feel a need to grind anything.
I don’t have a legendary weapon, no ascended gear (except for trinkets and stuff), and I find the LS s2 to be amazing. I play casually, and I love the fact that I can play casually without feeling that I’m being left behind on some grind threadmill.

I play it because I feel ANet lives up to their promise on the game being based on fun.

yeah, that went out the window with these changes.

‘Colin has indicated a desire to push players.’ – all that needs to be said.

’When your game systems are designed to achieve the prime motivation of a subscription-based MMO, you run the risk of sacrificing quality to get as much content in as possible to fill that time. You get leveling systems that take insane amounts of grind to gain a level, loot drop systems that require doing a dungeon with a tiny chance the item you want can drop at the end, raid systems that need huge numbers of people online simultaneously to organize and play, thousands of wash/repeat item-collection or kill-mob quests or dailies with flavor text support, the best stat gear requiring crazy amounts of time to earn, etc.

But what if your business model isn’t based on a subscription? What if your content-design motivations aren’t driven by the need to create mechanics that keep people playing as long as possible? When looking at content design for Guild Wars 2, we’ve tried to ask the question: What if the development of the game was based on…wait for it…fun?’

I guess he changed his mind.

Yeah.

I have this urge to make the devs sit down and watch that manifesto video again and then ask them to honestly say if they think they are still delivering on it, or are slipping into the “traditional” mmo mindset….

As part of this approach to making traits more approachable, we’ve pushed back the level at which the different trait tiers unlock for new characters in order to better pace the early game experience and to add more meaningful character progression from levels 30 to 80

I must be missing something here? Wasn’t “traits more approachable” and “meaningful character progression” the old trait system? Serious, does anyone really know why this was changed for the worse???

My take on this? The business partner doing the Chinese conversion said, “Hey, after level 30 when you unlock Elite skills, there’s just Master traits at 40 and GM at 60? That’s not enough benefits for leveling. There needs to be more.”

I always thought the last 50 levels were a waste of time to be honest. Game shoudl have capped out at 30 when you got your last abilities, the last 50 levels dont give enough actual gameplay changes and are just a grind to hit 80.

Should have stopped at 30 and had many more “endgame” zones.

wow this new trait system sucks.

I just came back to the game, levelled a new profession to where I hit the new traits and I dont know if I can be kitten d to continue…..

I cannot describe how disapointing it was to get my first Trait choice (level 35 I think) and go to select a trait……and then to sit there wonderign why I cant, read the tooltip, and get this sinking feeling that instead of the convenience I’d heard about being able to swap traits on the fly, I now had to either buy them (10s+2skill points each!) or go do a load of tasks all over the kitten world to get them…..I just cant be bothered, its really putting me off. I immediatly logged off and I’m not sure I can bring myself to log back on again knowing this is what I am facing. No its not hard, but its everything that GW2 was not supposed to be, grindy, forcing me to do things I dont want to, inconvenient, annoying…..

You were supposed to be about removing unneccessary grind and inconvenience, and about letting people play how they want, not forced to do things….

Now I am either compelled to go do a load of makework tasks to unlock traits or spend what is a relatively high amount of money at this level, and skill points (which I need to unlock skill still)…..

Sorry, but this system is possibly the worst thing you could have done to traits as a method of acquiring them as far as I am concerned.

Edit:

and this just makes me go looking for the uninstall button:
Skill points available from skill challenges:
Before level 30 (when they unlock) : 72
Before level 60 (when they unlock) : 48
Before level 80 (when they unlock): 39
At level 80 (after they unlock): 2
From WvW (auto level): 13
Total from skill challenges: 192
Add in the 75 from leveling and you get 267
Utilities (healing and slot skills) not including any racial or mistfire wolf cost 143 skill points to unlock all.
Trait skills cost 360 skill points to unlock them all.
143 + 360 = 503 skill points needed for full unlocking.
503 – 267 = 236 skill points short of full unlocking.

Whoever thought this was a good idea need firing, really, its a stupid system from start to finish.
No, dont fire them, make them sit in a room and watch that manifesto video back to back for a week straight, then they may understand why this is such a stupid idea….then fire them.

Also, whe the kitten is a T1 trait unlocked in a level 50 zone? I’m level 36, I want that trait….whats that anet? oh I should go kittenmyself you say?

Your ninja assassin is not showing more skin than pole dancers. Why do you feel the need to write such hyperbole when the game is full of modest outfits, this one included? It’s like people just can’t handle even the slightest bit of skin showing.

because it was light hearted hyperbole….its a way of making a point with emphasis, which you seam to have way over reacted to and missed the main issue, that human armor differs between the genders for no particular reason,

The male costume is that of a stereotypical male ninja, such as Ryu Hayabusa or Hattori Hanzo. The female costume, in turn, is that of a stereotypical female ninja.

Go look up the character Ibuki from the Street Fighter series. The female version of the outfit in GW2 is pretty much identical to her costume, save for the bow/obi, which in turn appears on costumes for other Japanese characters Akuma, Gouken and E. Honda.

That being the case, care to explain why the asura female costume is exactly like the male’s and yet the human female one looks totally different>?

‘Super protective fantasy armor’ is what it is all about these days, the males get the bad kitten armor that could protect them in an actual fight – while females are stuck with thin cloth and string essentially, it’s a fantasy game- but anet will not deter from the stereotypical kittenty female outfit.

hey, if they want to do an armour set with pretty much naked males and females I dont care.

I just dont get why they are so different as to be totally different sets between genders on what is supposed to be the same costume….

I like the female version more. bite me.

which is fair enough.

I just dont get why they offer totally differnt models for the same gear…..

Putting aside the missing bits on female sets, why does it not have a hood whereas the male one does? why does it have an kitten -bow and the male one does not?

Why do the sets look totally different between the sexes? I cant think of a logical reason other than puerile sexist ones…

Every set in the game has different models bc of gender, except for the Charr and Asura.
When it comes to ‘traditional Japanese’ type clothing ex kimono, womens versions tend to be more gaudy and flashy while mens more subtle and to the point.
but anet didn’t have to choose the route they did they could have used the same model and didn’t but then you would have more people complaining on why they didn’t differ.

Assassins gear tends to be gaudy does it? my I never knew….

I dont object to the costume as such, I just dont get why its so different from the male version. Which is great.

The big kitten bow and the lack of a hood is weird….

The back part is probably like the obi, which is the sash around the middle with a bow at the back which can be very ornate. Seeing as this is an Oriental themed outfit, it’s very appropriate.

Example of obis, from the back

yeah ok…..on a stealthy assassin costume? you dont think the lack of hood to conceal her and the big kitten bow might get in the way?

I bought the shadow assassin costume on my male sylvari, and it looks great and I love it (though the main colour has an odd lustre but whatever).

However, I then though, why not try a thief, this costume would look kitten on a female human thief….so I made one, put the costume on….and WTF? First no proper head piece, its now a mask, secondly why is my ninja assassin showing more skin than most pole dancers, and WTF is going on with the comedy (stupid) bow comming off her kitten ?

Why Anet? Why?

Why take a good skin and make it like that on female characters? are you artists juvenile sexually charged teenagers that all women costumes need to flash as much skin as possible?

I was extremely disappointed in seeing this. Deleted the character.

edit: to avoid confusion, I dont get why the female version is SO different from the males….I dont object to revealing outfits, but for an assassins costume, lack of a hood and a massive kitten bow seam an odd choice.

Not to make people actually “look” a fool. A literal interpretation that misses the point entirely.

A dymanic world would be nice. And living story that actually feels important and meaty enough for me to care about would be good.

I like GW2, I just cant help thinking so much potential has been wasted. It had some great ideas, it has some great systems, but it failed to use them innovatively enough, and played it too safe. Living story really suffers from lack of decent writers and lack of grand vision. Its all too parochial, too localized and small scale to really grab people.

Why is this acceptable?

All of this damage was done in the span of about two to three seconds. I was dead before I even had a chance to react. This is running full Toughness/Vitality exotics with ascended trinkets.

Explain to me why this is allowed. And before you launch into the usual “glass cannon” blanket justification, any DP/shortbow thief worth their weight in salt is pretty much impossible to catch with the stealth spam even in full Berserker’s… so that’s a moot point.

Because stealth is a stupid mechanic that has never ever been balanced in any MMO its been put in.
The idea of a burst class is also silly in a game where you can unload all skills in a few seconds, so massively frontload dmg.

Combined with virtual immunity from re-stealths and extreme mobility makes thiefs stupidly op in this kind of situation.

Dear Ray,
after taking the time to read your post history i have to say that even for the forum of an mmo you seem like a very troubled young man. I will pray for you tonight.

@Cameirus:
I’m quite aware of what to do against large zergs. The issue is rather that i don’t understand the motivation in becoming another server that tries to play like gold league. Personally i’m not troubled by vabbi getting stomped in points. I’m just baffled.

I dont understand your comments. Play like gold league means what exactly? To play effectively? You want people in bronze to play bad just to cater to you?

Gold silver bronze has nothing to do with ability, its to do with coverage, pure and simple. Gold servers get all day coverage, silver less so, and bronze not so much. Its not about ability as such.
But in prime time its likely to be zerg mania on any server, no matter the league. why? because its effective.
You seam to want people to deliberately nerf themselves by splitting up, well sorry, not going to happen as you cant guarantee everyone else does it. And if we did that, then you turn up with a slightly larger group, are you in the wrong? what do we have to do? stand round before each fight and count people on each side and make anyone extra stand to the side and wait?

No, alls fair in WvWvW. you want balanced pvp? thats what spvp is for.

Xept that SPvP only allows 8 players. Go play champ train if you like zerging so much.

go play something else if you dont like wvwvw as it is.

Currently the overwhelming majority of players zerg, and the minority qq about it.
That puts you in the minority. So stop trying to impose your idea of fun on other people.
Either get creative and use superior tactics to defeat the zerg, join in, or leave. Endless QQ over something you’ll never change and which most people dont even want to change, is boring.

Taken a break, came back, still the QQ on “you lot are winning, you blob lots” carries on…
Its not only a little pathetic, its damm unoriginal and quite sad people have not come up with something new to QQ about, just for the sake of variety.

One side will always outnumber the others in any given battle, Deal with it.

Since you seem to be either unable or unwilling to understand the complaints made, let’s try it again in a simpler version:
Maybe try running in a smaller group than a zerg or a 30man guild raid in order to get a fight out of Vabbi.

The only group that i’ve ever seen try adapt to a lower tier opponent was TUP and i have to give them credit for that (funny enough that it caused one of the most stupid flame wars of all time).

I haven’t complained about blobs when i was fighting in what is currently gold and silver league servers. I’m simply disappointed that it has reached this tier as well.

All of this applies to Dzagonur as well of course. It’s just that the attitude of some posters from Ros is so disgusting that it’s hard to focus on anything else.

Edit: @YuGiOh.4906: It’s not spamming 1 when you have to click it every single time.

Oh, I understand, I’ve been on both sides of this at one time and another, both the zerg and the zerged, and my conclusion? kitten happens, deal with it.
QQ will not fix it, it cant be fixed, its not a problem.
There are ways to beat a larger zerg with smaller numbers, work them out.

Empyreal Fragments are absurd

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cameirus.8407

Cameirus.8407

Assuming everyone uses a one-handed weapon, off-hand weapon, and two-handed weapon, you need 1,500 Empyreal Fragments. Then there’s two underwater weapons. That’s 2,500 Empyreal Fragments.

The best way to get all of those fragments is dungeons. Each dungeon gives 20 Empyreal Fragments. That means all the ascended weapons require 125 dungeon runs. Assuming each dungeon run takes 15 minutes, that’s 31.5 hours of gameplay just for Empyreal Fragments.

If someone wants to do it through jumping puzzles, it will take an average of 625 jumping puzzles to get 2,500 Empyreal Fragments. Assuming each jumping puzzle takes five minutes — a very generous estimate — that’s more than 52 hours of gameplay just for Empyreal Fragments.

As a comparison, it takes 84 temple events to get 2,500 Dragonite Ore. That’s 21 hours of gameplay at most.

Is this intentional?

Colin Johanson to Eurogamer: “Everyone, including casual gamers, by level 80 should have the best statistical loot in the game. We want everyone on an equal power base. The rare stuff becomes the really awesome looking armours. It’s all about collecting the unique looking stuff and collecting all the other rare collectable items in the game: armour pieces, potentially different potions – a lot of that is still up in the air and we’ll finalise a lot of those reward systems as we get closer to release. And those come off of things like the bosses at the end of dungeons – the raids.”

The very idea of ascended gear wrecked the great promise of no gear progression, its only got worse since. Its a slippery slope Anet are not so much carefully navigating as skiing down with glee.

What is ONE change you'd make to your class?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cameirus.8407

Cameirus.8407

Elementalist – weapon swapping. No other class has to pick between melee range and long range before even going into combat. Once we’re in combat, we’re stuck with what we have. If by some chance we have D/D equipped, we have no range options except conjures, which are limited. Changing to long range requires opening up the inventory and finding the other weapons to equip (having to run until out of combat before doing so).

apart from guardian…no you are right, no ranged option, so no choice I guess.

Unless I’m wrong, dagger on elementalist is 300 range. Scepter on guardian is 900. So a guardian can have both a short range and long range weapon equipped and switch between them in combat. If an elementalist goes into a battle with dagger equipped, we’re stuck at 300 range in combat.

well, yes a scepter is 900, but you wont hit anything that is moving, that walks away, or which is not totally stationary. So it may aswell be a melee weapon.
Its possibly the most useless weapon in the game for ranged combat. Its got some use, and its ok for solo pve, but for anything else its just plain pants.

Sounds like scepter could use some improvements then. Or maybe increase the range on staff? I’ve only played a guardian to mid 20’s, so I’m not as familiar with the class.

To get things straight once and for all: scepter is a 1200 range weapon on Guardians: http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Orb_of_Wrath
http://wiki.guildwars2.com/wiki/Smite
It is kinda slow moving though, so if you think that should be fixed then good idea, but the range is already 1200.
If traited properly though, scepter on guard can be their highest DPS, so you want to be careful here.

yes sorry, it is 1200.

But its not our highest dps. in theory it may be, but in pactise its not. It wont even hit most pve enemies which are moving. Its ok vs stationary targets, or very slow moving or closing targets,
But you can avoid 100% of it by just tapping sidestep.
Its slow, it tracks badly, you can almost walk faster than the projectile. Smite is good, however the ground placement makes it awkward to use, it was much better when it auto targetted due to the low cd it was less annoying.

It also has a massive disconnect with the off hands ranges. Shield and torch are mainly close in and whilst focus has one long range shot in ray, the 5 skill is again close in.

No, scepter needs some work, its not quite so appalling as it was in beta, but its still pants.

I do think the biggest change needed is all professions to have access to perma 25% move speed increases. and for thief movement to be nerfed hard.

this cleric troll build crap has to be nerfed somehow.

No it shouldn’t, this ‘troll crap’ is strategy. Just because it’s a strategy you can’t counter on your own doesn’t make it overpowered.

I think the OP does not understand the point of this type of build is that its not supposed to be solo countered.

Its also not very effective at anything other than survival. Its a way of trying to make your opponents commit disproportionately large resources to a point, which frees up your own team to allocate resources elsewhere to gain superior concentration of force.

Success is not how many players you kill, its how much of the enemies forces you can tie up by using a minimum of your own. Its the difference between tactics and strategy. tactics will win a fight, strategy will win a war or in this case a match.

I for one, dont want to see pvp degenerate into a pure numbers game, who nukes hardest, who has more people. Bunker builds allow a smaller force to tie up a larger one, which allows other objectives to be pursued, but that only works if the enemy falls for it. I suspect the OP spends ages battling bunkers, which is exactly what they want! He’d do much better going else where and helping at other points, and so the bunker becomes ineffective and actually becomes a drain on the other teams resources unless they abandon the point they were defending, at which time you can try to take it……

I do not play a burst build. I play a balanced build with 2700 armor. Never said berserker mode should win the fights but this cleric troll build crap has to be nerfed somehow.

no it does not. Its doing what its supposed to do. Its a bunker build.

You yourself are a hybrid so you’ll struggle to solo burst it down, as you’d struggle to survive a burst from a specialised dps build.

You’ve chosen a flexible balanced build, but the compromise is you can do lots but don excel at anything. Otherwise you are advocating only one type of build should be allowed.

Thats why its not a game balanced around 1v1. its impossible to do so. You need to work as a team.

Your problem OP is that you dont like people countering you. You want to just play your own way and win, sorry, that does not work in pvp, you adapt or you die. And thats how it should be.

Most heals can be dealt with by using proper conditions, interrupts or boon stripping, and by timing your burst correctly. Just wading in an nuking wont and should not automatically win.

Regen/heals should be removed from the game

Dear Anet,

Can you please fix it for me so that my preferred build owns everyone else. i am fed up with people being so inconsiderate as to come up with a build I lack the skill and imagination to counter.

I personally don’t like healing and as my opinions are more important than anyone else’s, you should change the whole system to cater to my needs. God forbid you have a game that requires thought and teamwork.

Your sincerely,
A really bad player.

Elementalist – weapon swapping. No other class has to pick between melee range and long range before even going into combat. Once we’re in combat, we’re stuck with what we have. If by some chance we have D/D equipped, we have no range options except conjures, which are limited. Changing to long range requires opening up the inventory and finding the other weapons to equip (having to run until out of combat before doing so).

apart from guardian…no you are right, no ranged option, so no choice I guess.

just came back to try the game again, and I was appalled to find what had happened to this game.
We’ve gone from a promise of a dynamic world to mobs spawning with such regularity that you can make trains like this, and you almost have to because of the daily and monthlies…..its managed to turn a game with a real potential for dynamic living world into a parody of itself.

engineer – make grenade 1 skill auto target. My mouse just cant take it!

Guardian – give decent ranged weapon

Mesmer – tricky, it needs many changes to really make it work. probably make clones more durable, they die far to quick to random aoe, which makes them useless most of the time and they take too long to get out to get a decent shatter effect off.

Secret build? Really? Lol I remember when people did that back in GW1, that’s cute.

A lot of people do it here too. Release a build and it becomes meta, gets cried about and gets nerfed.
People keep stuff secret for good reason.

the devs can see anyone’s build.
They dont need you to post it.

Anyone claiming to have a “secret” build, is special…..bless.

I got a response from ANET.

They admit that their buy screen does not register orders until a period of time goes past, which leads players to believe they have not placed an order.

But they say thakittens my fault for believing the information the game presented me….and refuse to solve it.

You’ve lost a customer, one who has spend a considerable amount of money on this game. The way you treat your customers is shocking.
And if I cant trust your trading post, and with real money purchases involved, I cant continue to play.

GW2 has been out for a while, and I am becoming increasingly ambivalent about it.

Whats changed? Why have my attitudes towards the game i was once so enthusiastic about altered? Well, I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve come to the following conclusions.

Has that ever not happened to you after 10 months? Passion is lost over time, even for the most important things in life. It’s not like GW2 is on the level of a car, wife, kids, job. If passion for a videogame declines over the course of ten months … are you really surprised?

The conclusions are not relevant. What’s relevant is the fact that this game is not new anymore. Eye candy isn’t eye candy anymore. That’s not something to cry about.

Not really, its not the game as such I am bored with. Its that I dont like whakittens becomming. the actual mechanics, setting and the ideas in the manifesto video I still love, and would happily play if Anet could just deliver.

I’ve never been naive enough to think the game perfect, it has its flaws, but they are not being addressed. World bosses are a joke, RNG is getting worse, stuff is buggy. and living story is just too small in scale.

I anet could just inject some real vision and ambition into their development, and stop their obsession with rng and grind, I’d have no problems playing, but its increasingly frustrating to see what Anet are doing to GW2.

GW2 has been out for a while, and I am becoming increasingly ambivalent about it.

Whats changed? Why have my attitudes towards the game i was once so enthusiastic about altered? Well, I’ve been thinking about it, and I’ve come to the following conclusions.

Anets policy towards RNG and grind. From lock boxes to precursors, to mystic clovers to weapon skin tickets, the amount of RNG in the game is very high, and for the important stuff players want like legendaries. Now, I’m not against RNG, or against work for rewards, but the degree that RNG permeates the game, and the very low return rates just cause frustration. Weapon skin tickets for instance have insanely low drop rates, not just from drops, but also from paid for lockboxes, and yet weapon skins are something nearly all players really want. It just seams that anet are designing the loot and reward systems around forcing people to use the gem store, and even then not rewarding them with goods but more RNG with very low returns.

Shear amount of bugs. The game has incredible eye candy, but its hardly a polished game experience, the game is riddled with bugs, exploits, and systems that just don’t work. I can put up with this for a while, but nothing is being done about them it seams with bugs known about in beta still persisting. World bosses are empty loot pinatas, many events bug out, the TP is subject to lag which causes unintended buy orders. Its also annoyed me on how anet have gone away from their manifesto. They wanted to make players happy to see each other and were doing well, then they put in the holograms…which almost seam designed to frustrate players, and its an obvious outcome, one I am surprised anet did not realise.

Lack of vision. The living story is just too small. The world is supposed to be on the verge of destruction, the 5 races fighting for survival. Instead its all very prosaic, we get a story about a kitten resort. And the world does not feel under threat, waves of undead do not march across queensdale, icebrood do not swarm out of the shiverpeaks, destroyers do not erupt in waves of fiery destruction which threatens rata sum and the grove. i just don’t feel like anything we do matters, there is no epic vision driving this game, there is nothing that makes me feel like my character, or even the playerbase as a whole, is making a difference.

Encounters are boring. From the shadow behemoth, to the mega destroyer, from the shatterer to the jungle worm, this game has eye candy in spades. Unfortunately the encounters are boring, easy, and usually over in seconds. There are no epic boss fights. Jormag is the best, but even that is just zerged, and nearly impossible to fail.
And who cares if you did fail? What happens if the shatterer is not driven off? Nothing. What happens if the frozen maw is not defeated? Nothing. What happens if the shadow behemoth is not defeated? Does he rampage through queensdale spawning a tide of beasts from the underworld? Um no.

The game has so much potential. But it needs a bigger bolder vision driving it forward, it needs more attention to quality control and bug fixes. It needs mechanics being made to work, from open world bosses not being pathetic encounters to making dungeons work and not just being speed run farmfests. I’d love to see how many cof runs have taken place compared to other dungeons….

Maybe I expect too much. But looking back at the vision showed in the manifesto, and then thinking about the game as it stands now, i cant help asking what happened? Where did the drive and ambition go? How have we descended from aspiring to challenge the elder dragons, to now being effectively mercenaries committing genocide over a beach resort?

I feel like I’ve been promised a new Ferrari, and then I’m actually given one, only to find out its got no petrol, the tires are flat, the battery is dead, and no one can quite remember where the keys are.

Can we just stop, please?

Ok, i’ll stop complaining, not because there is nothing to complain about, but because i’ve stopped caring. And thats the worst outcome possible.

Since the tickets will always be obtainable from dragon coffers, they will never be that exclusive unlike fused and sclerite weapon skins. There is probably going to be alot of supply left on tradingpost after the event, and coffers are likely to get more expensive. Still im a bit sad because I have one skin myself and I wanted it to be a limited time only like fused and sclerite. Sure is exclusive, but only when all supply runs out, which is gonna take forever. Maybe im wrong and the merchant stop selling the skins at some point or maybe they remove tickets from the coffers, atleast i hope so.

And if you had not been lucky? Would you still have that attitude? I doubt it.

They are supposed to drop rare. else everyone has the skin and it is no fun anymore. Maybe they should make the ticket tradable to compensate for the hardcore players but not increase the rates imo.

Not fun for you maybe. I for one couldn’t care less if every single player in the game has a skin I like, I pick my skins based on whether or not I like the appearance, nothing more. If everyone else has one I don’t care, I still think it looks good. Other people having it don’t diminish the look of the skin, and a skin that’s rare doesn’t suddenly become better looking.

True.
Some of the legendaries look awful, you could not give me the greatsword for example, well you could but i’d just sell it.

Rareity does not make something better, esp when the rareity is down to rng not skill based rewards
