Yes, because getting these, is not enough effort:
Clovers(500k karma minimum, since you need to use obsidian shards to gamble for these in the mystic forge.)
icy rune stones(100g must be bought from a npc),
obsidian shards(525k Karma)
gift of “weapon”,
gift of x Dungeon(500 tokens),
Gift of Battle(250 badges of honor),
Gift of mastery(250x Vicious Fangs + 250x Armored Scale + 250x Vicious Claw+ 250x Ancient Bone),
Gift of Fortune(77 Clovers, 250x Globs of Ectoplasm + Gift of Magic + Gift of Might)

There is nothing prestigious about getting lucky by getting the pre-cursor on your first attempt of throwing 4 weapons into the mystic forge as some lucky players have.

Most people who get these are selling them as they don’t want to deal with getting the other items as they actually require effort to get.

I could very well be wrong, but from the two posts I see above, the players making them obviously don’t understand how supply and demand works or have no interest in getting a legendary themself.

These weapons are very random to get, and the price will only increase more and more an at a quicker pace.

Last week they were 80g, now they are 250-290g. Expect to see them going for 350g next week. Gold isn’t going to be something easy to attain as the weeks continue to go by, and more players figure out how to work the trading post to make money.

More and more methods will be figured out and eventually the only items in high demand will be these legendary precursors, and I can only imagine how much they will cost at that point.

Pay attention to your character after an event happens, you’ll see you get 560 karma. It pops up in the middle of the screen. It doesn’t show up on the top right, for some odd reason, but they do work.

I do agree about the DR affecting them though, I believe it has to be a bug otherwise arenanet is losing money as nobody will buy the boosters.

I really wish their was an alternative way to get a precursor. I wouldn’t mind it being extremely difficult so long as I know at the end of the day, when all is said and done, I have a precursor.

It’s very disheartening for me, when I see people make posts where they got their precursor on their second or first attempt with lvl 80 rare greatswords or level 71 exotic axes.

Maybe I’m just a whiner, but I feel like this is just another gold sink in this game. I’ll continue trying this mystic forge method, but there will eventually be a point that i’ll have to call it quits.

@smooth penguin I tried 28 level 80 exotics and did not succeed. It’s really difficult to get these. Someone even posted they used over 100 exotics and still didn’t get it.

It’s completely random.

It’s a guide in that I show you how to get through the dungeon, and comment on what to look out for on bosses. I’m in steam voice chat s with my friends, but for some reason when I record you can’t hear their voices, so it’s more difficult to understand.

It’s a problem I am trying to rectify, if I can’t find a work-around we’ll switch to skype, as I know it works 100%. They just want to use Steam chat for convenience.

i one see CoF all path 3 vidoes with out any explote or cheats and glass build i one see the weekes of the weeks dps classes

Running past mobs is not exploiting or cheating. It’s a convenience thing, and saves time.

In regards to my build, It is not glass cannon. The only thing remotely “glass cannon” about it is the armor set. The traits themself are far from glass cannon. Once again, I am showing people how you can have terrible gear and still complete these dungeons.

Thanks for your feedback though I will be making changes to how I record these videos so the “guide” aspect of it is clear and concise for everyone.

EDIT I have redone Ascalon Catacombs Paths for Tzark and Hodgin’s with proper commentary, as well as Sorrow’s Embrace Path 1.

It would help me greatly if some of you could watch 1 or two of those and let me know how you like the changes I’ve made and where else I can improve. Thanks

I don’t remember saying anywhere that you should only go ranged, and if I did that was wrong of me to say. As I said, the majority of these recordings are first time encounters, so we worked up our strategies on the fly and our gear is terrible. Some in the group are equipped with greens and blues.

I just want to show people that even in some of the worst gear possible, these dungeons can be completed.

Since you guys have been asking though, I’ve been switching it up and plan on doing more melee in the next dungeon videos.

I don’t really plan on changing the skipping mobs if they are skippable, aspect though. If we have to fight, we fight! :P

Also, don’t forget everyone here that is capable can also post their guides and i’ll edit them into the OP. I just took the initiative and made this thread, but we can put together various guides to help out the community.

To be honest, it’s completely random. I haven’t seen anyone provide evidence proving a certain level of rare/exotic yielding better results. You have to go in, thinking that it’s completely random as to what your results will be.

I’m a solo player and I got my Gift of Ascalon in 2 days. Do all 3 paths in the morning, wait for the reset at 6pm CDT, run all 3 again and that’s 360 tokens.

Then just do 3 paths the next evening at 6pm CDT and voila, you have your gift!

You bring up a good point in regards to the rare swords. Since the acquisition of the pre-cursor is random in itself, it would make more sense to just use rare’s, unless exotics gave a slightly higher chance.

I guess I was just more comfortable with gambling exotics as you are guaranteed an exotic back.

As for the conspiracy, you could be right about that as well.

I just remember seeing someone with around 15 dusks via the lvl 65 rares “exploit” and he had hundreds of gold, so I automatically assumed he must be the one putting them up for such high prices, as he was never banned for it.

Dawn also jumped from around 100g to 180g long early last week, which is sort of insane.

I’m not sure if I want to cry at this point. It’s like they say, RNG is RNG. I think i’ll attempt another 28 and call it quits after that if I fail again though. =P

For those that might ask, the total cost for crafting these swords was 47g. I feel this is a better method than buying the swords from the TP, given someone is controlling the prices for all of them and selling them 1 by 1. At the time of this post, the average range for Dusk/Dawn is 185-235g.

I will post another video the next time I do this(possibly next week?),

Yea, even ectoplasm is dropping in price. They’re going for about 18s now, down from 19. This is bound to happen as more people hit the higher levels and get their gear.

If you kill two waves of enemies, I don’t see why you shouldn’t be rewarded with a gold medal. These areas a plagued with botters, do you think the botter’s deserve gold? I would stay for these events if there weren’t 20 different particle effects going off everywhere.

Hello everyone! My purpose for making this thread is helping those in the level 70-80 zones who want to gain karma, but find themselves not gaining a whole lot, or hitting the diminishing returns quickly.

Before I post the guides, I would like to address something. The main reason arenanet has placed the diminishing returns in the game is for one simple reason. Botting.

It’s the same reason gold doesn’t drop from monsters at a steady rate. You can say this isn’t good game design, but I wanted to make sure everyone understands this. Arenanet isn’t trying to tell you how to play the game you purchased, although it may “seem” that way.

That being said, there was a change made today, that I simply think needs to change if it is not a bug.
Pre-patch, you could go to different zones after hitting the DR point, however it seems that post-patch, if you go to a new zone you still receive lower rewards for event completion. I seriously hope this is a bug, otherwise this could become a very serious problem for some players.

With all that out of the way, here is the guide I created.

You can start at either of these maps, the choice is yours, once events stop appearing teleport to the next map at the closest waypoint. I personally start at cursed, and by the time i’m done both maps I’ve earned 10k karma with the karma boost active. So with 4 hours of doing this you can get 40k karma. By doing this I managed to get 578k karma within 6 days.

Tips:
1.Purchase Karma boosts, if you can afford them. I generally use gold conversion and purchase the 5 pack for 275 gems(1g 17s).
Contested Waypoints or temples on these maps mean there is an event happening, constantly keep your map open to look out for these.

2. You don’t have to sit through an entire event if there is another one nearby.
Kill a few mobs in the event you are currently doing, and head over to the next event. You will almost always get a gold medal if you do so.
If you don’t understand, watch the video.

3. Keep an eye on map chat. Generally people will link events in map chat, this is extremely helpful and will make your karma farming much more simpler.

4. If there is an event going on and nobody near, link it in map chat.
More than likely a zerg group will form and you can do the events much quicker and easier.

5. If you in the straits, ask where the zerg group is, in map chat. There is almost always a zerg group doing all the events in this area and you can just roll with them.

6. Don’t burn yourself out, take a break every now and then, this farming method can get very tedious and boring.

7. Have fun!

@Kevin. Glass cannon ranged players can “slightly” get away with not speccing/gearing into too much defense due to them near-max ranging every fight. When they get attacked they stop almost all dps and start running around in circle. Their range is their defense.

Melee dps is superior by a pretty large amount to ranged dps, but going melee you need some sort of defense from your gear, or utilities, or traits, or a mix of all to be viable. You can dodge big attacks all you want, but if your character gets eaten alive by auto attacks, then you’re not doing any dps.

So like I said, it’s all about balance. Ranged can skimp a little on defense, but ranged does less dps then melee anyway.

Frankittenhe best set up my team has found has been a nearly-all melee setup. Ranged people also suffer from not getting boons, which help a lot in dps in a coordinated group. My guardian can drop hollowed ground and land 3 blast finishers before it’s gone. That’s +9 might for whole group, and that’s just myself, not including what my team mates can do in the field.

If you got 4 or all 5 players within 100-200 range of the mob, the amount of might blast finishers and other boons that can be spread around is insane. On top of that, melee does more dps then ranged.

You have no idea how fast a dungeon can get burned through until you run a near-all melee group using fire-blast finishers and buffing each other.

Sadly. Most pug players come in with ranged weapons because they don’t want to die (bad experiences with bad players), so more often then not, you go into a dungeon and nearly everyone is ranged, and dps in comparison is horrible lol.

Great post, the mistake myself and others made was purchasing magic find runes and placing them on their gear.

You make a great point with the blast finishers on flame combo fields, you can kill mobs extremely quick by doing so, it’s especially fun with 2 warrios rolling longbow+banners, as banners work as blast finishers alongside the number 3 longbow skill which works as a blast finisher.

I’m just trying to show people you can do this in awful gear.(magic find) People are so fixated on berserker armor when knight is far superior. Still, I won’t complain as it’s a great source of income selling them on the TP.

Seems like this thread is bugged or something, I can’t seem to edit or quote posts for some reason. To address what you said Shiren, these aren’t exploits.

unning past enemies while using stability and swiftness to evade kd/kb or using LOS is not exploiting the game. I suppose you could say the developer did not intend for the players to do this, but just look at the timers on the video.

Most are 40 minutes or above. If people stayed around to fight every single mob, it would takes more than an hour to complete a single path.

At the end of the day, as you said it’s the developer’s decision on if this should be changed or not. If they change it, I’ll obviously update the videos so they aren’t outdated. There’s a reason I said I would keep track/update this thread on a daily basis.

If these were truly exploits I would have either been banned or this thread would be locked by now.

How long (on Average) Does each Dungeon take to run through.

Your first time running a dungeon on explorable will take anywhere from 40-90 minutes. After that you can bring it down to an average of 40-50 depending on the dungeon.

In regards to mechanics, make sure you read the lower part of enemy nameplates during each encounter. Things like “Pulls” “Burns” “Knockdown” etc. These let you know what to expect and usually pulls have an animation before they are actually used.

The mechanics are pretty straightfoward, all you have to do is pay attention to what a npc tells you, look at your map to know where to get next, etc.

For some reason I can’t use quotation but to respond to your post Azure, the only reason I went ranged was because it was easier, as is with almost every encounter in MMO’s.

The reason I used the rifle/longbow so much is because of the fact the bosses all have nasty damage if you get in melee range. Saying ranged warrior isn’t fun, is your opinion which you are entitled to, there are plenty out there that would disagree with you though.

Having trouble with AC SM? Throw some rocks

Not sure if this is that useful but I made a quick video guide for those of you out there that might be having issues with Ascalon Catacombs on Story mode.
When you get past the first set of traps, there will be rocks near the area you pull the chain to deactivate the traps.

Have everyone in your group grab a rock and proceed to kill the lieutenant and two silver mobs. The rocks do a decent amount of damage and knocks back enemies that don’t have the defiant stack.

Do the same for the rest of the bosses in the dungeon. It works especially well against the lovers since they don’t have the defiant buff, and you can just chain knock them back until they die.

No, it is character bound. You’ll have do the all the Poi,SP and Hearts again on your guardian if you want to get a star on it as well. It sucks, but I can understand why they did it, so people can get more skill points easier.

Hi there, I ask this because I’ve been waiting since monday to purchase my obsidian shards, and from what I understood there was supposed to be a patch today, yet I am here at midnight(seattle time) which is the usual time arenanet patches and there is no patch available for download as of yet.

There is actually someone who has everything except the last shards he needs, because an event is bugged so the npc can’t be talked to until the event completes. Don’t be surprised to hear someone has made one after the servers reset.

I’ve thrown in 20 exotic greatswords so far. Haven’t gotten the dusk, but I’ve been getting fancy looking greatswords. That is all I have to report.

I think it’s better to just save up your gold and purchase it from the trading post. As it is right now it’s completely random as to whether or not you will get it.

Don’t worry guys, TC and Maguuma are just butthurt over the stomping we gave them last week. This entire nocturnal excuse they have been throwing around is equally as laughable.

It doesn’t really matter though, this just goes to show how bad the two servers are if they formed an alliance and still have lower scores than EB. There will come a point the two servers are separated and will continue to stroll in third place, against other servers.

No, there is a good reason they are soulbound. By the time your character is level 80 they should have 50 skill points to spare on an eldritch scroll.

If you make these non-bound, then why not just make bloodstone shards unbound as well? This is not a good idea, and you haven’t thought this through.

To those hoping to get legendary precursors through this method, it has either been removed or drastically reduced to get the chances of getting it. The remaining weapons in my account shall remained locked till I figure out what to do with them.

Alright, last night’s post was about me making at least 900+ gold off the TP (my screenshot had 750G in my bank), but I’m now currently sitting at 100 gold because I bought off the TP’s dawns/dusk because of this exploit (I have in total 15 GS precursors).

This method goes like this

1) Craft 2 Godskull GS + 2 Carrion Krait Slayer (rare), 2 65s + 2 80s = chance for exotic. Any 4 rares in the past can upgrade to precursors. I also believe that creating dusk/dawn is related to time and not random. I kept getting dawns in the morning and dusks during the night time. I have no clue about whether exotics now can change into a precursor.
2) It costs 60 silvers when I initially crafted it. I can sell the exotics that I get for average 3.5 G even at 20% chance. You can’t really lose money.
3) If I get precursor, immediately profit 50-100 times by selling it at 60-70 G.

I was sickened by the players’ attitudes who were trying to profit from people that I immediately started undercutting people by selling it at 60G and then buying all the remaining people’s 80-90G dusks/dawns to prevent monopoly of the market. The 100G weapons are out of my reach, unfortunately.

From my understanding of this, there was a “exploit” with the use of rare level greatswords in the mystic forge.

Apparently you were never supposed to be able to get the pre-cursors with “rare” level weapons and that method has now either been removed or greatly reduced.

I and many others are very confused at this point and would like some clarification on the matter. I’m not sure why there isn’t just a set recipe, so people can just avoid this rng fiasco, but that is not the choice for me to make.

In conclusion I would like to ask the following:

1. Can we still attain the pre-cursors from lvl 75-80 rare weapons in mystic forge.
2. Can we still attain the pre-cursors from lvl 75-80 exotic weapons in the mystic forge.
3. If no to all of the above, can we get a set recipe, instead of having to rely on world mob drops?

Badges need to be awarded for more than just kills.

This really needs to be addressed. The droprate for these is ridiculous, and the current best way to get them is to do jumping puzzles.

I don’t understand why they don’t just remove the gate, until they can find a fix for this. It really puts a hamper on people’s world completion :/
