I think Anet is missing a huge economic opportunity here. They should sell sponsorships to the legendary weapons. Who wouldn’t want the ‘Legendary Geico Insurance Greatsword’ or the ‘Legendary Pepsi Focus of Fizzle’? Wouldn’t it be great if we could send soup labels to Anet and get a "Legendary Progresso Traditional Soup Ladle of Karka Bashing’?
(don’t miss the sarcasm, please)
More seriously, if a weapon is the pinnacle of the game, and people are making this big a fuss about how hard it is to craft or how expensive it is to buy, after the game has existed less than six months, get a grip. The game is supposed to last years, not weeks.
Hey, I want to see the next season of Game of Thrones, and read the next book in the series, but I just have to be patient. I also am not playing GW2 to ‘finish’ it so i can move on to the next game that pops out. I want it to last.
I don’t expect to log on every night and have something spectacular drop into my inventory because I deserve it.
I can fully understand the frustration with dropping hundreds of weapons into the Mystic Toilet and never getting back what you need – that is a suck mechanism that degrades the game. I fully expect Anet to fix or supplement this in time., because that is what they did with GW1, over time. Meanwhile, I just don’t go there.
But other than that, I think people are wasting too much energy churning about this, and ascended, and FOTM, and not enough energy enjoying what’s good in the game.
I totally agree on this. Some people, see above, have already played ~900 hours. Some probably even a lot more. Three months after release, that equals 300 hours per month, 10 hours per day. Every day. Apart from the fact that this isn’t sane at all (no offense implied, it’s a fact), do they really expect that there will ever be an MMO that can entertain you for such a long time without inctroducing a simple grind mechanism? It’s simply impossible for ANet to design enough fun content for this kind of addict, but unfortunately, it seems that an increasing number of people invests that much time in a game, so it’s still an important part of the playerbase for them that has to be satisfied. “Normal” people would only reach such a playtime over the course of several years, if they didn’t stop playing long before.
There’s nothing wrong with have 900 hours of playtime, if you can properly balance your playtime, work and social life. My friend is studying to be a pediatrician, so I don’t see how he isn’t normal, and I myself am studying commerce. You don’t have to play 10 hours straight, a few hours here and there can easily add up to 10 within a day.
There are plenty of games out there that have no grinding mechanism, and I still found them very enjoyable. This game is just better.
$500 Dollars isn’t much, and his point still stands. You can purchase some of the necessary materials to create a legendary through the use of the gemstore.
In an ideal MMO, a legendary weapon should have some sort of quest to acquire it. The current acquisiton method if you wish to attain the materials for the more aesthetically pleasing legendaries, will cost you around 1000g or more.
My friend who will be crafting his twilight later this week, has spent 900 hours, and had to play the trading post for over a month, buying low and selling high, just to afford his t6 mats(250 stacks of each) as well as the ectoplasm and lodestones.
I have a similar play-time(867 hrs) and we’re always playing together, yet I’m nowhere near completing my sunrise, outside of the karma,WvW, and Dungeon gifts.
Although this is completely anecdotal, It paints a small picture as to how much of a goldsink everything else for a legendary.
I’ll take an invite as well, 10-19 range.
You can only wear one ascended ring? Interesting.
What I mean by this, is to give the party leader the ability to choose the fractal difficulty everyone in the party will have to go through.
In it’s current state, the new dungeon although somewhat challenging, is tearing the community apart and is more frustrating than anything, thanks to the segregation.
Let’s be honest, the whole idea of the dungeon is fantastic, but the implementation needs to be worked on.
This would solve some of issues players have with the dungeon in it’s current state and I’m not sure why arenanet decided not to have this in place from the start.
Let me give you an example of my current dilemma.
Release day, I played with a group of friends until fractal level 3. Two of the people in our group are cousins and something serious comes up, and they have to leave to go upstate.
Myself and the two others, end up going to fractal 5 without them. Then those two have to deal with exams, so I end up going to level 11 by myself.
Fast forward to today, I am still at level 11, as I don’t want to progress too far without them, and now 1 friend wants to get to level 11 as well. So, I have to get him to 11, then wait for the other three to comeback, and then get them to level 11.
You might say there is incentive to go back, since you still get the fractal relics no matter what difficulty you choose.
Although this is correct, who’s to say what may happen in the future? I could end up having to deal with something immense and have to leave for awhile and when I comeback I will have too much catching up to do, especially with the RNG required for the agony resistance ring.
If the party leader could just choose the difficulty for all us, we could all play together with our friends, without having to spam lfg in map chat, because one of us had to deal with work or real life.
If anyone has objection to this, please leave a reason as to why, I’d like for this topic to remain constructive!
Just salvaged 5 rares in a row. 2 gave me 3 ecto, 1 gave me 2 ecto, and the last 2 gave me 1 ecto each. RNG is RNG!
Here’s a tip, so long as the boss has the fire debuff on, it can’t heal itself. Simply have one person up top, and go clockwise. There is a small patch of dark ground on each end that you can’t miss(the entire ground is white, except for these areas)
Lure the boss there and tell the person up top to drop the liquid. The fight is extremely easy if you do it this way.
It seems like arenanet is making some questionable decisions this past month. I don’t understand why the ring is a rng drop, especially when you consider these items are required to do the content at higher scales.
What is someone supposed to do if their friends get the ring while they don’t, and end up having to sit out, while their friends look for someone who has agony resistance?
I’ve been running dungeons with the same 5 people over the past 2 months, I will be very disappointed if i’ll have to wait for them to get a ring, just so we can continue to play together.
Even still seems to be running.
My overflow isn’t full yet, join me if you need to do the event!
edit: we’re full now.

Just got into an overflow at demolition phase. Whisper me in-game for invite. Shaena Bles
We need a lot more people, there aren’t very many people on this overflow

Looking for an invite, IGN: Shaena Bles
No he was scaled to 80 for event you can equip lvl 80 item if you have it.
You know like PVP gear, and how people from halloween event equipped exotic lvl 80s and now using them to lvl on alts.
Interesting. I would have thought it would be like WvW where you are upscaled, but can’t equip 80 items.
I’m just amazed that someone who got a free trial can get a precursor, while others who have been playing since day one and have hundreds of hours clocked in didn’t get anything as they had real life committments and couldn’t attend the event.
I can understand why they like doing one-time events, but putting precursors in them is crazy.
Well, you’re wrong. Sorry. Only level 80’s could have gotten it because the item drops were level-based. I know because a few of my guild members weren’t level 80 and got rares and exotics of their level (60’s). One did the even on a level 30 character and only got level 30 based gear. So ya.
I’m actually not wrong. Getting level 80 within 3 days is easy, the amount of events plus the fact you are invited by a friend, means that you have them to help you level.
I have friends that were given gold and crafted themselves to 80 after doing events to level 40.

People are spending more time in the new dungeon and playing with their friends. I bet the prices will go back up on monday.
Why don’t you have to grab crystals to use to power the ventilation system anymore? This boss fight has lost the fun factor out of it, now it’s just mindless weapon skill spam..
Colossus, reminds me of God of War.
As a person with absurd amounts of dungeon tokens, I am enjoying my Black Lion keys.
Do a 2-2 split with 1 person roaming with hammer. Once someone has 28+ stacks, have them drop the hammer while someone else picks it up and roams. Rinse and Repeat.
You get another skill once you kill an enemy with the hammer that appears in the 4th skill slot.
Yea, I got blown off the map by wind, and my party members can’t locate my body, so I’m stuck listening to them finish the fractal.
I would suggest fixing this bug at least =P
^Magic Find doesn’t affect chests.
They said they added 200 recipes for this patch. Let’s wait and see.
Actually, it’s only accessories and the back item that are being changed this patch. This stat difference is very minuscule, but will eventually add up.
That is why they are slowly adding these items, so players have time to acquire them, and not have to feel forced to get every single piece right away.
I personally preferred the cosmetic route, but hey, I’m not complaining. I welcome more endgame content
Everyone does realize it’s only accessories and Back item’s that you can get this month? They are making it very slow, so you have time to get these items before they add more.
What if you aren’t interested in that content but want to do other things that still rely on PvE gear?
You use exotics?
You realize how easy dungeons are with exotics, right? And what other PVE content is there, exactly?
There is this little mini-game called WvW. You know, where you take the armor and weapons you’ve earned in other parts of the game. Oh, silly me, it’s such an insignificant part of the game…who cares about those people. Amiright?
I can agree with you here. They need to make these items available for players who only do WvW. You shouldn’t have to do dungeons in order to be on a even playing field in WvW.
Hopefully they have implemented ways for players to get these items through WvW.

In my personal opinion, the only thing difficult about legendaries are the precursors, which are already being addressed.
Lodestones really aren’t that difficult to get either, I personally average around 10 per every 5 days, doing all 3 paths of CoE once a daily.
Ectoplasm is the same, you can do events in orr to get rares, as well as use the large bones that drop so frequently to go back and craft lvl 80 rares to salvage for ectoplasm.
You can easily get 250 ecto within a week and a half of doing so. This is all my personal experience/opinion though.
What exactly do you want changed about these materials?
what i want changed is the way you obtain these gifts. I think that instead of a massive grind for karma. You do an extreamly hard jumping puzzle for one part of the gift, Then an exclusive dungeon for another (that you have to solo). I just look at people with a legendary and think wow they got lucky with the tp and wow they spent a lot of time running plinx. Not thinking WOW he’s a really skilled player.
Well with the karma thing, you get karma from dungeons as well as your daily now. If you use the guild banner/boost as well as the normal booster you can receive an extra 70% = 7.6k karma just from doing your daily which takes a minimum of 20-30mins at level 80.
I’m not sure how doing a jumping puzzle or a 1 man dungeon is indicative of player skill. For example, a lot of people were complaining about the Clocktower puzzle, yet my friend who can’t even do his personal story completed it. That puzzle was considered “hard” by the community.
I understand where you are coming from, and It’s nice you’re putting ideas out here for people to discuss. I just don’t think they are exactly befitting of a means of acquiring legendary weapons.
i found the clockwork puzzle really easy.
its different from some.what i mean is the legendary’s need to be obtained with skill. Not massive grinds, I don’t mean get the whole legendary from a jumping puzzle, Just replace the karma with the puzzle for example. It would give me at least, more motivation.
I have a feeling the new dungeon they are adding on the 15th will have a part in all of this. They were saying the dungeon had multiple levels and if you manage to get to the bottom you will get “really good loot”.
Maybe there will be lodestones, jugs of karma etc. =P
I’m glad to see you’re happy, but what will happen?
1) it will be less rare in MF
2) there will be a true recipe for each of themI really hope it’s not number 2 or you are gonna cry more then befroe.
Any recipe will involve mats and their price will skyrocket, no matter which they are, same if it involves weapons and precursors’ price will be even higher.
So long as there is a sense of progression with the acquisition of the Pre-cursor, It doesn’t really bother me. This is my personal opinion though, and there are others out their that will disagree.

Subject Alpha is a skill-check. Love it!

Like others have said, Thank you for this update John. You’ve made a lot of people relieved to hear this.

“We’ve received a large amount of feedback about Legendaries becoming unreachable. This is actually a topic we’ve been tracking for quite some time. To ease your minds I am here to say that it’s something we’ve been watching and we’ve been listening to your feedback. You can expect to begin to see changes addressing the issue starting with our next build.”

For something that is supposed to be Unique and Legendary… being able to farm enough gold in a month or 2 for the pre-cursor sounds about right to me…. It should take a year to get a Legendary for any ordinary player.
What do you consider ordinary?
I’m amazed there was no a single question about the economy.
Basically what he is saying is that Magic find does not affect chests at ALL. What he meant was that when a boss is killed the loot is automatically rolled at the time of death, so switching to mf gear or consuming food after a boss dies will not increase your chances for rarer loot, only before you kill the boss will it do so.
You know OP, you could just make some friends, or join a guild. Problem solved.
You do realize that the chest and dungeon have DR on it, right? There is no reason they would nerf it.
Just got a black lion salvage kit from the chest.
Oh, I forgot to mention, thanks for the posts Blacktoof and Strifey! I edited your videos into the OP.
I’m going to check out the speedrun videos, and post them into the OP later today.

So those of us that just got here get left out. What a shame.
Someone has gotten the 500 champion brawler achievement. You do not receive a title for completing it, so complaining about it is moot.
Pennry, I do plan on making more videos. I’ve been just been swamped with schoolwork, but I will try to get some guides out this week for you guys!
Here’s a video for the Mad King Thorn Costume.

RNG at play here. It sucks, I know(personally). Next time convert the gems into gold and purchase the skin you like from the trading post.
Instead of doing those recipes, you guys should be tossing stuff in the mystic forge. Majority of stuff from discovery pane in crafting is usually sigils.
It’s the MF where you get recipes.
I’ve been trying to scan the gaseous formation in queensdale, but nothing happens. Not sure what to do.
