You should wait until you hit lvl 60 and get the grenadier trait.
Btw, I can´t recommend to use grenades as a main damage source.

There´s actually a reason, why these bushes are suspicious. It´s because they´re the only bushes in the game.
Please, just put some more bushes into the game, if only for logic´s or aesthetic´s sake.
Maybe as a gathering source? Or purely for the looks.

So first of: I don´t know, whether this is a computer related topic or a game-mechanic or an engineer related topic. But since this problem only occurs, when I play my engineer I figured I´d post it here.

Playing my engineer I switchmy kits around a lot. often I only stay in a kit for 1 skill or 1 second for my sigil to proc or kit refinement.
As everyone know, most skills have cast time and I use them quickly after another then switch, then cast, switch, cast…..

Now here´s my problem: After a cast there seems to be a small delay. So it goes like this: I use a skill and shortly after the cast is supposedly through I try to use an other skill…. but it won´t work.
It may only need a second click to activate the skill but…. you know, it´s nice to get skills of by clicking once, only….
Sometimes I dont pay enough attention and proceed with my combo without that skill… which sometimes has grave results… eg not enough burst, no shield, and so on… so I often go down…
Skills I most often have that problem with are throw wrench, Hidden Pistol ( toolbet, charr racial), prybar… and some others which I temporarily forgot ._.
I dont know whether I just didnt notice it on my other classes, but it hinders my engineer gameplay enormously.

So my question to you guys is:
Do others have this problem? Or is my playstyle the problem… or even my computer? It´s not the newest xP

Personally I think that many people dont like the engineer because they barely know what the class is capable of.
Before I started engineer I played guardian and mesmer. The sole reason I started playing engineer was that I once had an engineer in my group (hotw all paths) who told me that his underwater damage is awesome. There I got his attention, because I always hated underwater combat with my mes and guard.
And heck, the class was hard to comprehend in the beginning…

And now? With the correct traits I outburst my shatter mesmer and… well not outtank but it´s close… my guard.
Well, either I suck at playing guard AND mesmer or I am good at playing engineer. On the other hand I really dont think that I am a good engineer player.

What I want to say is: engis are not all that bad as people think they are but they´re not fine, either, because of countless bugs and useless traits.
I will now proceed to level my 2nd engi up to lvl 80

I mostly run dungeons.
I used to test around for a bit with full berserk, full knight, knight/berserk and knight/rampagers.
Now I´ve settled with knight gear and berserker jewels, occassionaly switching to full knight.

I’m pretty sure my Tool Kit Auto Attack got buffed, Tool Kit auto attacking is now viable in PvE.

Yes, the Tool Kit Auto Attack does definitely more damage now.
Before the patch the damage of the first two hits of its #1 were definitely a bit below rifle´s #1 (tested it often enough)
Now the damage is higher than rifle´s #1

But I dont know how other kits are doing. I think nades now do a bit more damage, too, but I haven´t used them often enough. So I can´t reliably tell.

See!? They have already started!
First they take humans, charr, Norn and Asura´s engineers and make them sylvari. The player may not be suspicious yet, because Sylvari is still a viable race BUT… They will soon find, that it´s getting harder to move around with their engineer and soon they won´t be able to walk anymore. Then, of course, they´ll proceed to throw grenades or shoot with the rifle or their pistols in hope that they are still useful.
But their nades will eventually turn into chestnuts and the rifle and pistols will degenerate to simple brancheswhere little birdies try to build their nests in. And no, not the infamous angry birds. They would still deliver a bit damage. No, it will be cute little cutey-birds which will be cute.

CAN´T YOU SEE THE SYSTEM BEHIND THIS!? WE´RE DHUUUUUUMED!!! O_O

I think it is still a viable weapon.
As already stated, it still provides decent damage (when it hits) and is awesome for stacking some conditions, especially vulnerability.

I am currently testing what kind of gear I want to use with my nades. Currently I´m using knight gear with berserker jewels… But I am thinking about switching the jewels for some rampager jewels. But on the other hand Vulnerability synergises well with direct damage.
Got any help for me there?

I´ve only played guardian, Mesmer and Engineer up to lvl 80, yet, and have been often watching my friend on his warrior (so my sight of the warrior might be subjective)

Guardian is great in PvE. Can´t argue that… Okay, maybe a bit boring at times, but still awesome.
Needs no big help

Mesmer is super nice in PvP but needs a little help in PvE. Not much, just a little bit (note: yes, I´ve tried both. PvE and PvP)

Engineer….. Most fun class I´ve played until now. BUT… To do as much damage as my warrior friend in TANKgear (PVT) and axes I have to use every trick in the book, stack might as crazy and go full glasscannon gear-wise… and be left with almost no survivability.
I think the issue is, that engineer has to trait too much into certain areas to do anything useful. Simply giving engineer kits and thus a package of skills is no versatility.
Dang, help this class! So much potencial, yet nothing can be made out of it.

Warrior… PvE-wise he´s a god. My friend can go afk on a boss fight where I have to use 110% of my skill as engineer. Most PvE-damage, most toughness and as much Vit as a necro.
Only trade-off: Heck, I can´t comprehend how people can actually have fun with such a boring class….
And dont get me started on those 4-warrior-1xxx-groups…
… PvE-wise they need reverse-help… if you know what I mean… (but still this one is only subjective)

I think the engineers rifle is an okay damage and cc weapon.
Your suggested build (in your PS) is okay, buuut….
I dont like elixiers, so I dont really bother with them x) (so much rng ._.)
But you´re close to the build I play and love.
I use 20/10/0/20/20 and sometimes 20/20/0/20/10. Enhanced Performance in Explosives (together with runes of altruism and sigil of battle decent mightstacking) and in tools SD…. I love SD But SD with elixiers is a bit bugged >.< .

And the skin… well I dont like the Charrzooka x) But it´s good money if you sell it and it´s likely that everyone willl look at you when you choose to use it xP

I don´t want to say that this setup needs a nerf but I´m no fan of 1combo-burst-builds, so I think that this should be tuned down (just a little bit >.<) and make other builds more viable.
instantly killing people may be awesome and maybe this combo IS hard to pull of, but it seems just broken… (I´m talking about every class out there, not just engi)

Yeh, the engineer is lots of fun but… lacking.
But as I see it people are overdoing it. We may be lacking but I never felt completely and utterly useless in any situation I´ve yet encountered.
And a big plus for this profession is still the fun (as lots of people have mentioned before)
I could never imagine playing a warrior… I don´t know, warrior feels just like … winning a race without racing. It´s boring.
So if OP-ness and fun are contradicting in this game… Heck, I´d throw OP-ness overboard and play to have fun….

I´m mostly playing dungeons and don´t feel like a burden.
Even if I may not bring as much to the table as other classes I still save their butts often enough.
I take hits they can´t take, take away their conditions when they dont have a condiremove with them (happens alot <.<) and give them some air to breath in tough fights… Short: I can make bad players less lacking. Sure, maybe others can do that, too, but I feel like engi is MADE to do just that.
And even in experienced groups I dont feel like a burden.
I´ve never run across one of these inglorious PUGs which dont want an engi, yet,
and the guys I usually do dungeons with… heck they´re the reason I started playing engi <.<
They wanted one, they got one and they (have to) love it (or else! ò.0)

I´m playing 20/10/0/20/20.
I stack might, move close in, give monsters a prybar to the face, throw the elixier guns light field and… mostly I stay there, switching between toolkit and rifle and doing some sd damage, giving a little support to my teammates and…. stay alive

Wall of Text! Incoming!!

Yeeeh… This is my somewhat-mightstacking-a-bit-supporty-a-bit-SDish-Rifle-Melee-Prybar-Build-Thingy. O, and I have to mention: it´s a PvE-Build and I highly doubt its good for any kind of PvP but didn´t test it in pvp yet o.o
Some of you might ask: Why? WHY!? Why do such a thing!? Why toolkit for melee and no healing bombs!? Why even melee? This game hates melees!

Let me explain:
Mostly I run this build with knights gear + knights jewels, sometimes even a mix of knights and berserker. I found it´s working well with soldier gear (pow/vit/tough), too, but I simply prefer knights for lots of toughness and decent power and krit.

But of course I am not satisfied with such little power, after all I want my powerlevel OVER 9000!!!!
So I took 2 runes of strength, 2 runes of Hoelbrak and 2 runes of altruism. The sigil I´m using is sigil of battle (u know htat one with 3 stacks of might on swap)
Sooo…. the runes give 40% might duration. Your 20 points in elixier add 10% boon duration, so that´s 60% might duration and 60% boon duration.
C´mon, you already know where this is going

And while we are still on topic, I must mention this build goes pretty well with SD due to good might stacking and decent crit-chance. elixier guns toolbelt skill is instant, 32 sec cooldown (With Trait cooldown-thingy and I know, not THAT perfect for SD, but it could be worse ), then we got THE prybar and…. that turret there with its toolbelt projectile-thingy-finisher…. Not everyone´s taste, I know.

Now let´s go on t the next question: Why melee?
I (and most others) already figured that rifle is heavily relying on it´s melee-burst-skills.
I´m lazy so I dont want to bother to press #5 to get into melee range, maybe miss the target because of… reasons… and then press #3 and run away again.
Now I press #5 to get into meleerange, maybe miss the target because of… reasons… and then press #3, then change to elixiercanon to get my field (kit refinement duh), change to toolkit and prybar some faces and stay there (dont forget moving + dodging of course)
If my cd on rifle burst is up again I switch back to it and then to elixiergun, because the field from kit refinement is probably gone by then and I set a new field with #5, then to medkit to get more might and for swiftness(+Vigor for some more dodges) + fury and back to toolkit again.
So, again, why toolkit and no bombkit? toolkit does boooom, that´s why (no srsly, the third chain auto attack makes a boom-sound and a bit higher damage) while I somehow feel like bombkit only does blopblopblop ._.
Also toolkit´s #5 is really nice sometimes and I know that you love #4 and #3, too!
Still no reason to use toolkit? … <.< … >.> … ò.Ó It´s a great kit! There, that´s a reason! >.<

Now what if I have to stay out of melee for … whatever reason…
Do what you can do best.
You can still (somewhat) CC with your rifle, Give your teammates a (not so much)regen and combofield, cleanse their conditions, trigger fields and… do stuff, you know what I mean, that… word…. kitten I can´t remember…. AH! now I know! DPS
yes I´m a troll <.<

Now let´s see if I got everything…
Might? Check.
Support? small regen, combofield + conditionremove. Check.
Survivability? small regen from combofiel + small kit regen + epic block + lots of evade + reliable condition remove for myse-…. o heck I knew I forgot something -.- Only half a Check.
Control? Check.
Melee? Okay I admit range is still easier but it´s for the lulz ^.^
Damage? … No 1-button-kill but it´s got some (for engineer) decent burst.

I use a similiar build for PvE. Only difference is that I use 2x rune of altruism for 3 stacks might every 10 seconds for you and some bystanding mates, 2x rune of hoelbrak and 2x rune of pirate for might duration.
I like investing points into elixiers for some survivability and even more boon duration.
That´d be 20/20/0/20/10 or 20/20/0/10/20… can´t decide yet :P
Currently I´m experimenting with Juggernaut. After all I got tons of might duration so it´s no problem to maintain 8 stacks might from juggernaut alone…. well, at least in theory :P
My engineer hit lvl 80 only a few days ago, so I get easily confused with my CDs und kits and thus I end up either staying too long in FT-kit so I dont get my might from a fast med-kit swap or not long enough so my might stacks fade away… xP

Personaly, I think the versatility…. cough… Sry, I know it´s a forbidden word in this part of the forum but I couldnt come up with a different word :P … is quite amazing. I prefer to use it as a bursty-damage-thingy build, while you seem to use it with a tanky build.

It´s especially nice since I can´t seem to get into HGH and still stack might quite easily… Don´t know why, but I dont like HGH x) Maybe because I dont like most elixiers…. well, that´s what people call personal preference, isn´t it? shrug

Well, I´m trying right now but…. since I´m kinda new to engi and hit 80 only a few days ago I easily get confused with my skills :P
With juggernaut and enhanced performance (2runes of monk, 2xhoelbrak, 2x Pirate…. yes I´m that broke) I can easily maintain 15 stacks might out of combat.
So in longterm combat it´s likely to have something …. 20+ might? but as I said, I´m still unexperienced AND bad in maths so I´ll have to try o.o

But it´s amazing that it still works with SD so splendidly…

I was also looking into possibilities to stack some might but since I dislike most elixiers and kind of love SD and found toolbelt elixier skills have (in my opinion) too long CD to use them with SD I came up with this:
I use superior sigil of battle and Enhanced Performance with Might Duration Rune (and maybe soon 2x rune of altruism)
It´s a lazy way of stacking might, sicne you only have to switch to medkit every 10 seconds.
I still have to try this with Juggernaut… :o

on the flip side, having a random target means you are able to daze multiple targets with F3 without the grandmaster trait.

Huh, that´s a point I haven´t thought about yet, to be honest.
But then I think it´s too situational and random to be used specificly. But that´s an other discussion.

Personally I do see it as an encouragement to not go fully glass-cannon anymore pve-wise.
I think the might is in some ways making up for 20% more mindwrack damage… so I dont feel, that I really need that trait to do at least decent damage. So I feel like I am not really forced anymore to put my points into domination.

Nah, honestly I think it´s fine if people want to duel but they should accept that most people are going into 5v5 because they want to… play 5v5…
It happens a lot that i accidently join a duel 5v5.
If they ever asked me to kindly switch the spvp server, I´d do it.
But lots of them are offending jerks, so… yeh I end up ruining their “duels” until they leave.

I have a similiar problem with it, but only in wvw or more generaly spoken “open pvp”.
Always had it since I played Aion…
“OMG my game had a lag, there must be an assassin/thief somewhere!” → run,run,run, waving camera around all the time…
in gw2 wvw it only happens, when I want to get to my group, when it is fairly far into enemy territory.
that feel is neither fun nor relaxing at all.
But in gw2 pvp I dont seem to have it. I´m all cool about being killed or killing the other guy…
It´s just that kitten “I´m going to get ganked now and cant do anything about it”- feeling that frustrates me and keeps me away from open pvp.

So… yeah, you´re not the only one ^.^°

My mesmer is only lvl 38 yet but I can´t complain about pve at all, yet. Quite the contrary.
And since I really hate orr and dont even want to think about farming there with ANY char I guess I´ll be fine, even in higher lvls
Dungeons: also an aspect of pve I only tested yesterday. (ac story and explo all 3 ways)
In my mates and my opinion I did pretty well, even if I only was 35-ish.
… well… for higher lvl I can only speak out of my guardians perspective. I love having a decent mesmer with me, who roughly knows what he´s doing

I am going to try a 10/5/30/20/5 build for PvE.
I run dungeons a lot and always have my othe rguardian mate with me. So practically every mob is nonstop burning x) So, I guess its worth a try.

But I really can´t decide on my equipment yet…
I got a pow/vit/tough armor set from how, a knight armor set and berserker’s and a knight´s set of jewelry.
I can´t decide on the runes either… ._. I wanted to use runes of the soldier or runes of strength… tough choice, tough choice x)

In any other game I´d probably be playing some alts by now…

I discovered a similiar built a while ago ^.^
The only differendes are that I amde it 10/10/30/20/0 for the 10% more damage, when an enemy is burning. I really like that one ^.^ The built also works well with Power/vit/tough equip and knight jewelery… Depending on the situation I switch between a pow/vit/tough hammer and a berserker´s. I mean fully switch, not weapon switch x)

got 1900 pow, 40% / 34% crit (depending on hammer x) ), 1900 or 2000 Toughness and 17,5 or 16,2k hp…

Can almost tank everything with it XD

I can only tell about my experiences in how explo 1
some mobs, especially bosses, have different ways of choosing their targets. Some seem to attack the one with lowest life, some attack those with higher healing, those who are closest to them or first hit… ect
I think it´s only about getting to know the mobs/bosses
I, for example, dont have any problems tanking Ginva, except for some moments when he´s going after my sup-mates.
But I can´t get every mob´s fcous, when there are 3 or more of them >.<
But I´d really love to xD

Personally I think the Hammer is already op in PvE, but on the other hand it´s kind of useless in PvP.
With a Tank Built and Crit/Tank Eq I can burst in everywhere, and I really mean EVERYWHERE, without getting any (serious) damage, using all explo fields and healing myself giving me and my mates 2 boons every 4 seconds + might on every crit, healing myself even more.
I cant remember the last time I had to use my heal to save myself, since I found my favourite hammer built.

Even if I want to do damage I prefer the hammer. The symbol´s just awesome and it still gives soooo much support >.<

Maybe I simply prefer it because I feel pretty much immortal using it xD

True, it´s one of those weapons that kind of take away movability, but I think it does come up for it hence it also reduces the enemies movability. And yes, I mean to say that, in my opnion, hammer is a cc-semi-tank-dd weapon for a bunch of mobs to kick theirkitten >:D cough okay got a little carried away there…

2: Personally, I dont think the skill is meant to be used in melee but in range to split enemies up or keep them away from teammates. Well, at least that´s the way I´m using it, as a cc x) But I agree, it´s got too much cd

In my opinion, weapon switch is there for gap closing x) Yes, I know about the guardian-ranged-weap-discussion but I think it doesnt hurt to play 10 secs with staff/scepter to get closer to your enemies instead of running toward them, doing no damage the while x) You can also switch to a sword to get back into fight, if you prefer it the complete melee way ^.^

4. Yeh, there are no traits, which are explicit for hammer, buuuut (:D) as Duran said you can go for the symbol traits. (remember? third auto-attack) I went for both so the symbols are bigger, last longer and do smashysmashy and healyhealy (at least a little healyhealy, I´m no healbuilt xD)

Okay now I think that´s a text of wall I wrote… on to my final words! >:o (and ur last paragraph ^.^)
I dont think there´s any weapon that is extremely functional on it´s own. I mean in a way that u ONLY need to use THAT one weapon. In my opinion it´s highly ineffective not to switch weapons from time to time. weapn switch is an enrichement to every built, especially to hammer builts.
If you go for the symbol traits a staff is highly conform with them.

I think many ppl are misjudging the hammer by it´s movability, dps and whatnot, but honestly I think it´s a dd-support-tanky-cc-allrounder x) little bit of everything but not too much of all. One could say it´s the Bi….ever for everything O_O
But, as always, it´s dependant on the player´s gaming-style.

I´m always trying to support my teammates in some way and doing some dmg and… kinda being the lady for everything Thus I´m playing hammer + Staff.
The Hammer symbol does great with the symbol trees. It heals and does decent damage and gives the -33% dmg-buff. Quite useful for ppl like me, who love to play melee ^.^
The knockback, circle thingy and the staff´s wall are also very nice x)
Only annoying thing is that there´s always a space of time at the beginning of each fight where that build is useless… until u make the third hit with the hammer x)
