I really don’t see all the issues people have with the kiss.
If you had a relationship with someone, and you thought that your partner was dead, would you not kiss him/her/it when he/she/it turns out to be alive? I don’t know about you, but I would say that is a very realistic and logical reaction.
But I suppose gay couples aren’t allowed to show love?
I would have loved it if Marjory brought Kasmeer’s head on her chest.
It would have still shown they are in love, it would have been less expected and would have been more tied to the kind of relationship they have (they are in love, but Marjory is like a motherly figure for Kasmeer)
I actually like that Marjory was the one needed protecting this time, it showed that Kasmeer isn’t just a damsel to be protected by her.
I think that Bro-ham not wanting to hear a thing and just wanting her dead and Scarlet being interrupted is a good representation of parts of the GW2 community who couldn’t accept Scarlet or the Living Story. You got what you wished for :P
Look, I just want to add that I personally don’t see much evidence that the OP is homophobic. Or that the posters here defending him are homophobic. I think that’s a pretty strong word and we shouldn’t just casually toss it around.
What I do think is that you are privileged. As am I – a white, college-educated, straight male.
What do I mean by privileged? Specifically, in this case: a relationship which mirrors the kind that I would have in real-life can be represented in game without being seen as social activism or social commentary.
When we make a big deal over this sort of thing, we’re sending small, (I assume) painful messages to people who are already marginalized that the behavior or choices they find most natural are somehow unnatural, strange, unwanted, or wrong.
For my LGBT friends who constantly have to deal with this nonsense: don’t let the kittens grind you down. <3
Well, thanks for that. Let me ask you a question though: in a society where hetero relationships define the vast majority, isn’t it ok to be ok with ONE of these, but protest it when it’s two in a row?
I mean, as I said, the first one didnt bother me. the second did. So how would you define that?
Caithe and Faolain don’t really count in my opinion.
ALL Sylvari are pansexual, they don’t care about genders. I don’t think it’s fair to compare it to human relationships. If you play a sylvari, that means that your character is canonically interested in both genders, whenever you like it or not.
Reason why people don’t know about it, my guess would be, they didn’t read about sylvari before launch, and there is not enough evidence in game currently supporting the fact that sylvari are pansexual. We have 1 male-male relationship consuming whole 10 minutes of your personal storyline, and Caithe isn’t really in any kind of relationship with Faolain anymore, they’re…exes.
So there you have it, one official, legitimate non-straight relationship currently in the spotlight, as part of the bigger story. The biggest thing to happen in this patch was the reveal of a new dragon, I think we should focus more on that.
Also, even if you feel bothered by it, if you’re against same-sex pairings, or against representing it, you WILL come of as homophobic in the eyes of readers, no matter what you were trying to say.
The reason why I feel it’s wrong to accuse it is because heterosexual relationships, being the usual norm as they are, are represented in more then 90% of every stories, including books, movies, video games, comics, etc. Most*stories don’t even touch the subject of homosexuality, or anything that is out of the norm.
We, as heterosexuals, are represented more then enough, to the point where it has become so stale, boring and overdone, that we’re expecting such things to happen in every major story we come across. And all of sudden, you don’t feel “represented enough” because once in 100 years your “privileged right”, and what is natural to YOU has been taken away from you. We live in age where everybody has gone lazy and we go through life with a sense of entitlement like everything belongs to us even though we don’t deserve it.
And for once, I think that something that is less commonly seen deserves to be represented more. They’re not pushing a social agenda on you, me or anyone else – if you have a problem with it, you create your own agenda behind it.
It is alright if you don’t like it, or can’t even relate to it, but demanding to be represented more, when you’re clearly over-represented in almost every form of media (often in a really forced and annoying fashion where the woman will end up with a man no matter what) would be the same as me complaining there isn’t enough white people featured in leading roles in movies.
And if you think about it , you are being represented – all the emotions you feel towards somebody when you’re in love and when you have those feelings returned are portrayed there. Some people start of their relationships for shallow reasons, then develop as time goes on. Some take their time knowing each other before engaging in a relationships. It’s no different really.
(edited by CharrGirl.7896)
We do have quaggan rommance, it started during the Tower LS
Yes. But it was not pushed in our faces where we are FORCED to watch in order to progress through the living story and personal story.
Do you feel forced and embarrassed whenever a kiss scene in any movie pops up?
Hey OP, since we all feel the need to elaborate our sexual orientation beforehand, I’m gonna do the same, I’m a hetero female in a relationship for a long time now and I have no problems investing myself in homosexual relationship like Kasmeer and Majory because they reflect real life and real world feelings of how two people act around their loved ones, especially in dire situations.
That being said I don’t need a hetero romance in the spotlight to relate myself to – i see them as people foremost, and characters. As such I tend to avoid using words “lesbian” or “gay”, but I know a kittenton of people wouldn’t agree with me.
Anyway that’s how I see it. Try to give it a shot :P
I honestly couldn’t care WHO is in the spotlight as it:
1) Doesn’t affect me personally in any way
2) They’re here to tell a story, not push an agenda
It’s funny how people get offended and scream for “equality” whenever a minority gets a spotlight once in a century.
I would really enjoy it if GW2 featured a marriage and romance system between characters and NPCs or characters and characters (like in some other single player games and MMORPG games we can easily google, where characters can get married.)
I would enjoy some straight romance and possibility to roleplay, and maybe have dignity/ferocity/charm actually do something and affect how npcs treat you from a romantic standpoint.
That being said, I still did not complete the personal storyline yet, but I’m close, just past the charr tanks, and I find the plotline so far to be somewhat feminist oriented, with Destiny’s Edge being lead by a woman and the number of females in the group being more than the males. There was another lesbian sylvari couple in the plot, among the scouting group. One of the girls died, and the other was lamenting the loss. Which makes me wonder if all sylvari are conceived to be homosexual? And mostly the exposition of sexuality if focused on female characters, where as the male characters seem to be mostly written as either roudy and happy-go-lucky types or the Trehearne/Tybalt/Logan types – responsible for everything and tormented by doubts. The three of them are essentially the same character, and none of them act like problem-solvers.
Not to mention the human city is ruled by a Queen – another female of authority. And the sylvari avatar of the Tree is a female entity.
Just a personal opinion, but I think the male side of the house could use some empowered characters soon.
Correct me if I’m wrong though.
So if you have a female lead suddenly its a “feminist statement” ? Sorry…what? Do people care that much who’s in charge, as long as the characters are good, should it matter? You’ll find that in most video games and other forms of media the leads and majority of characters are male. I don’t see anybody complaining about that, or actually the “lack” of female characters, as long as you have one good female character among the male lot. I never have problems investing myself in stories where most characters are male. Look at LoTR for example. We have it other way around in GW2 and somehow that gets some people to demand “equality” :P
And about Traherne or Tybalt or any other DE character. All of them are tormented by doubts and their weaknesses. Eir has issues with her son and with Zojja, for failing as a leader, Caithe has the whole Faolain angst thing going on, Zojja snarks at Eir whenever they come across (but you will see that change in the final story instance you do).
In short, none of these characters are perfect. They all have their faults and flaws, and Tybalt, considered by many the best character so far, just happens to be a guy. And he’s a kitten hero!
(edited by CharrGirl.7896)
So, did we get an explanation as to why her voice changed as you said we would? I think I missed that detail while I was doing the final instance :P

I honestly don’t undersatnd some of you lot.
You complained months before something int he lines of “if this doesn’t end up in Elder Dragon we’ll gather torches and pitch forks and kill Anet staff” – type of hate.
Now that you finally got your wish, you still complain? What did you expect? If this didn?t end up in a dragon awakening would you also kitten about it?
Somebody explain this to me please.

FemShep and Liara ftw!!! Jory and Kassy can go die in a ditch for all I care :p
Oh I remember that. Liara started hitting on me after TWO conversations. The actual romance with Liara sucks in ME1 and felt better in ME2, but still.
Can you do the story instance with friends?

I would have found out myself but the event is pretty bugged atm, can’t progress to the drill machine to fight her. I’m interested in replaying this with guildies, but not sure if the story instance has owners, like in regular story instances? Is it possible to do the final story instance together with friends, or is it just limited to 1 person?

I don’t see why people are “blown away” by it.
I would bet you that people who give it praise are ladies (bless them) who are a bit more suspectible to cheesy romance stories.
That wasn’t a romance. It was just sexual. There was almost no actual romantic interaction other then petnames & “I care about you baby” dialog. At least Koss & Melonni actually had sexual tension denial, dealing with pride, conflict & acceptance. Romance isn’t just two people who like to do it, it’s complex. all this “what a great love story”… I have no idea what it’s based on.
Well I guess it can’t be helped if people see it that way, since it was pretty easy to miss on a lot of conversations.
They actually DO have meaningful conversations in these last 2 patches, talking to each other as regular people, expressing interest for each others past, revelations of what it means to be with one another, how they wanna better themselves as people (actual quote) It’s not just sexual. I always stick around NPC-s to listen , and to me, there definitely is a progression in their relationship.
Now about the whole thing:
Gj!
The overall delivery was satisfying imo. It wasn’t perfect, but it wasn’t disappointing either. The only thing I dislike is the zerg that needs to be completed before the actual story stuff starts, and with the recent bug, it makes it impossible to complete.
- Thank you for letting us personally kill Scarlet :P I was sort of afraid that she’ll have some lame death via zerg.
- The fact all bionics (except Taimi) were there makes it even better. My guess that Rox wil join the warband anyway? Poor Braham, feed him some ham to heal his leg
- Heh it sure looked like you killed Marjory, and Kasmeer seemed genuinely kittened at Scarlet with the taunts and all. It just made killing her of more satisfying. Was happy when Jory was alive and well, and for the record, start improving your cutscene animations, to appear less wooden, but overall, a very sweet scene.
- The end cinematic was awesome. Did we just see all ley lines activating, and awakening some kind of dragon? Mordremoth?
That being said, there are STILL some questions left I hope we get answers too:
- So why exactly did Scarlet wake up the dragon? Was the dragon controlling her mind? Even when asleep? We need more answers here, Anet.
- What happened to the Mai Trin and the Aetherblades in EoTM?
- In fact, what will happen to every other alliance now that Scarlet is dead? Will they fall apart?
- Where was Taimi in all this?
- Will we ever find out who is this “E” person?
I have more questions but I can’t think much now…hopefully we will get more answers in the conclusion patch in 2 weeks? There are still questions that need answering, and I really really don’t want to wait another year to find out all the answers.
All in all, good conclusion, still has loose ends but i felt myself genuinely invested! Keep up the good work, and listen to our feedback and take it to heart (the constructive ones, at least)
kitten guys you made me take a pic of my cat, well then here we go!

Somehow, the words “prude” and “armor” in the same sentence doesn’t sound quite right to me.
Not only that but he doesn’t care if the new character is generic, as long as it’s a guy. I find that laughable because people already complain that there aren’t enough interesting male characters in the current LS but somehow this would be “ok”. I fail to see how that would be an improvement over Marjory lol.

I always thought they were inspired by beluga whales o.O
They look so similar…
You will view my limited time back back and you will like it sir!
Newsflash those backpacks aren’t there so you can show it off, it’s there because you like it. Nobody ever congratulated me on my legendary and I certainly don’t expect – those backpacks should be for your viewing pleasure only…
An option to disable, please!
I was just joking/trolling yeah disable feature would be fine. I do think they are there to show of just like having a rare weapon though, but yeah disable feature for backpacks and a health bar feature would be fine by me.
Sorry then, didn’t get the sarcasm
And for the nay sayers above, an option, an option. Not mandatory disable. If you like to wear it, it doesn’t affect you in any way if others don’t want to see it. I’m against disabling armor parts that are not backpacks though.
I think the problem is the lack of interesting male characters, not heterosexual relationships.
4/5 of the Biconics, the main LS villain, her second-in-command, Lion’s Arch’s most important authority? ALL female.
Add a few more important males and – voila! Surely we’ll have more hetero romance.
I LOVE that there are so many strong, capable, intelligent female characters.
As another poster pointed out, there are a lot of males in game already. I don’t see that as the determining factor in how relationships are created.
I take it even further I stopped caring about gender all together in this game.
When I see a good character a gender is a secondary trait that I notice afterwards. Trust me, not many movies or games can pull that off. I congratulate Anet for making it so gender neutral in many ways.
If there was a ratio of 3:1 male-female characters such threads wouldn’t even exist because you’re used to seeing this to this in almost every form of media.
(edited by CharrGirl.7896)
Agree and disagree.
Love they added more dialogue and characters.
Don’t like they’re not doing cut scenes with said characters. Presentation is more important I think.
-1 to this
why spend a lot of money on expensive stuff if you can turn it off
You can already turn it off, by pressing H and deselecting “view backpack” in your trinkets section.
What we ask is an option to disable other players backpacks, just like you can disable player instruments. Heck, you can already disable player character model quality, so during large events half of the players look like poorly rendered NPC-s anyway.
Having so many flapping wings and tentacles on my screen is a real distraction and annoyance. If WoW has huge shoulder pads, GW2 has over the top backpacks. I don’t think we need more wings.
You will view my limited time back back and you will like it sir!

They could sell the toggle item in the item mall, I think that could be good idea.
ring of freedom – 1000 gems – you don’t see backpacks
ring of monotonity – 1000 gems – asuras are rendered as humans
To be honest, joke or not, I’d gladly pay for a toggle option, even though it would spark a huge debate, most probably.
I was thinking about making the same thread myself actually. Seeing that you can disable your own backpack, there should be an option to disable others. Ever since that karka tentacle backpack, the quality of those has been…reduced, in my opinion. I know most people like those wings and blades are “cool” but to me it’s just…well terrible. An option to disable it would be fantastic.
+ 1 to this.
I would love an option to toggle on and off players backpacks, mostly because of those wings. I realize my opinion probably isn’t popular but I find those hideous. I didn’t buy this game so I can see Spyro the Dragons flapping around me all the time :P
If you argue that would kill the point of backpacks think again. They allowed you to toggle on and off player instruments. Just because everybody likes/uses something doesn’t mean we also have to.
I think you should allow the portion of your player base who doesn’t like seeing flappy dragons and metal tentacles all over your screen to hide it. I don’t think there is any sense of showing it off at this point, since everybody has it, so it wouldn’t affect the player who wears/likes it.
I’m actually surprised there aren’t more same sex pairings in the game. Upon first reading on Sylvari I honestly thought we’d see such couples all over the game guess I was wrong o.O
I’d gladly support any type of charity via GW2

Logan and Jennah are not the only hetero relationship. There are tons of those in game. See this post for a complete list, but I bet there is even more:

Marjory and Kasmeer behind everything?
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: CharrGirl.7896
Nah you got it all wrong. It’s actually the toilet guy that was trying to find a water closet before… since he never actually found one, he made a deal with Scarlet and now she’s breaching into the waters of LA, making possibly the biggest sewer system in all of Tyria. All will be made clear next week, so keep your conspiracy hat on and stay tuned!
Since you removed almost all the town clothes from the store (like hoodies, rider outfits etc.) there hasn’t been anything new. I kinda thought when you removed it that that means you were going to ad a new collection or something?
We do know what’s going on. Scarlet is drilling for something beneath Lion’s Arch. Something she has been searching for for the last year. Something driving her mad with voices in her head that she is determined to find. She has plotted and planned for this. She has assembled an army to shield her from us. She has developed technology to track down the source of her madness. Now she is very close to uncovering it.
It’s all there if you pay attention.
Now what is it Scarlet is drilling to reach? We don’t know yet, nor should we. That’s why it’s a finale. We’ll find out at the end.
The idea that we should already know the end result is silly. That ruins the surprise and the mystery. You don’t flip to the last page of a mystery novel before you read the rest.
Well, if you do, you’re just weird.
She’s breaching for the intersecting magical ley line which has been stated several times in the game. These things exist since GW universe exists, and for all we know, elder dragons feed of magic at each awakening cycle, to “fix” the balance of the world etc.
She’s hearing voices in her head, described as coming from the “forest”. It could be that she’s being possessed by jungle dragon and basically she’s going to release a big feast for the dragon to consume. I could be wrong, but that’s how I see it (would love if the story leads to this)
I like this! Gonna be fun to explore
Mine’s cool with it. Noble and tolerant just like the Vigil, faces things with dignity and respect.

Where there are no crafting stations apart from the airship ones. So we’re still at that – they’ve removed convenience and put it over a paywall.
Oh for the love of… it’s like crafting stations don’t exist in other cities right? As I said take BC for example you have stations, bank and TP all extremely close to one another, I never needed to use LA for that. Much cleaner, less lag. The only time I actually needed to go to LA was for the dungeon vendors, and sometimes Mystic Forge.
I honestly think you’re making a bigger problem out of this then you should…

He is in Fort Trinity and he has one line I think something about “how dragons are rising all over the world” yadda yadda yadda :P
I agree it’s a good idea. Might I also ad, that it would be great if things didn’t stay the same during the entire 2 week content? Maybe they could patch few tiny updates with changes as it goes so it feels more alive and less stale? For example your idea could be implemented but I highly doubt they will do that.
But why should one of them die? That would be identical to what happened with DE, as OP and many others have pointed out. I don’t consider that good storytelling. I would go as far as to say that it is very bad storytelling because it lacks originality.
If they really are forming a new DE, which I’m unsure has been actually confirmed, copying a major plot point from the previous DE story sounds like the last thing they should be doing. They should instead be trying to create interesting characters who will make their own impact on the world, instead of being a shadow of the original DE. It doesn’t have to be DE 2.0 to that detail.
Yeah. Plus, it would mean that they were building up their relationship for months just so they can kill it for the drama. Oh that’s so cliche and overdone and I hope Anet is smarter then that. I trust they are. In fact, I believe that players made a bigger drama out of this then it should be.

The next Living Story “Villian” may wield Scepter of Orr and a big sack full of worthwhile lore. And that alone makes her far more interesting and capable of much more things.
Just sayin’
You mean ….Livia? She is technically still alive no? Wonder if Anet has plans for her. Last time you see her in GW1 picking up the scepter.
Welp, no hope of them being a playable race now :P
The inventory is bugged. It keeps resizing whenever I open it. I like to keep it narrow but it just widens up every time.
Well, to be honest, Evon is acting like an kitten :P
Lornar’s Pass Camp
- Marjory and Kasmeer idle chatter + dialog when you speak to them
- The Priory are talking near Marjory and Kasmeer, after a bit of idle chatter, one walks away, you can follow her for more story.
- Almost everyone in camp has dialog when you talk to them, but don’t really say much, just that LA is lost.
Vigil Keep camp
- Taimi walks around camp looking for someone who saw Scarlet
- Bloomanoo and Peneloope are standing there, they have idle chatter and when you talk to them, they talk about there seems to be no safe place for Quaggans in Tyria.
- Heal-o-tron is aiding in the medic tent. Seraph come to look for him, he runs away to the Vigil Keep, goes to Evon to order some defensive armor.
- There’s the little army/group on the road, I know they have idle chatter, but I missed it
- Evon gets deputize from an Asura working with Ellen Kiel
BloodTide Coast camp
- This one felt pretty empty, not much going on here that I could see
Didn’t find Majory in the Lornar’s camp but did find Taimi and Evon in the Gendarran fields one. Still have to see Canach escape.
I’m usually very positive about their designs but this time…sorry Anet, these armors are one of the worst designed armors I’ve seen in any game, period. Casting aside the creepy blue skin and (the usual) Charr tail clipping, they just look so tasteless and over the top. And I thought aetherblade armors were ugly….:S
Who designed those things?
first hand account of the devastating aftermath handed to tyria’s 1k year old trade city..
no lore there.. seriously though, it’s got plenty of content with lore appeal
I don’t consider mindless zerg fests to be a good representation of the “lore”. LA is in flames and that is impressive but there are no cutscenes (except the opening one which used the teaser footage) or story instances.
We want story instances like the ones from origin of madness or edge of the mists.
When they said that the last update was weakest for the story, but delivered the exact opposite, I expected something incredible for the next update in that regard :/
I didn’t notice anything new too. Wait, they said that the previous patch was the weakest for the lore? It was the strongest. I miss character conversations.
I’m from Europe. I can currently afford to play bit later but I will wait till tomorrow for this update. It’s a little thing called patience. I don’t feel cheated or dissapointed. They took their time to polish the update so you all wouldn’t be kittening about bugs/lag etc.
RE: Changing the face of Tyria "forever"
in Battle for Lion’s Arch - Aftermath
Posted by: CharrGirl.7896
Of course we want it! Doesn’t matter who changes it.
And I know many will disagree but I think Scarlet is actually gasp a better villain then Shiro or Lich (Varesh still tops it all) …Shiro just made me laugh whenever I saw a cutscene with him, so bland and funny voice acting…while Scarlet has actual emotion behind her voice especially in recent patches.
And think of the bigger picture…if LA gets destroyed Tyria loses it’s central cultural and racial hub, not just from the gameplay point of value. Think of the longer consequences that will be born from that in the long run.
