Well if they don’t like it they can close their eyes and ears and pretend it doesn’t happen and go for their achievements and ignore the story aspect. Those things happen in real life and this story reflects it and there is nothing wrong about that.
Using Caithe/Faolain as an example isn’t too good, because all sylvari are bisexual by nature, as explained in one of earlier Anet posts.
I just find it amusing that people are more willing to accept walking talking cats and sentient cabbages then the prospect of a certain percentage of population being represented in a modern game.
I am not saying it’s all bad, but I hope they improve for Season 2. It’s their chance to get players on board with the story, and this lesbian thing is not really gonna be the way. We want fantasy writing, not thumblr fan fiction.
Please read what I said.
Or apply for the writing team and try making a homosexual Charr romance for a change, because that would fit in your vision of what a fantasy story should be, since Charr are fantasy, and humans are not. If you’re going to miss my point entirely then don’t bother replying at all.
Ehh Tauren? My, that IS pretty horrible.
The majority of players don’t really care, or comment on this forum, or even in game about their relationship for that matter.
That’s because the majority of the players don’t care about the living story, since Anet has done such a great job to fill it with engaging and interesting characters that people can relate to. Scarlet already has made a mockery of the story by turning into a Saturday morning cartoon plot.
People just play for the achievements at this point. For them the story is the same old, same old. And this relationship thing is not really helping. It’s probably just turning away some of the more picky players.

GW2 living story lacks good characters, in a way that there is nobody for the normal player to relate to. There’s no point of this forced relationships. I wouldn’t call it an agenda, but rather unnecessary thing, that would make the majority of players scratch their heads. There are other ways of making bonds between characters.
This exact case feels so forced.
The majority of players don’t really care, or comment on this forum, or even in game about their relationship for that matter.
I don’t like it. It feels forced. There aren’t any other couples in the game, which makes it really odd. The only other couple i can think of is Jenna and Logan, but they aren’t really a couple.
Does a game really need to push the lesbian & gay idea of acceptance? I don’t think so. It feels like a forced agenda of acceptance, that hollywood and special interest groups use. Let’s be real here. A-net is only doing this because they feel pressured by political correctness, and they don’t want to feel intolerant. It’s not because they want to, but they have to, in fear of being labeled homophobic.
And why does it have to be women? Especially when they are both “hot”. Is it to cater to young boys? Of course it is. Will we see two males getting it on next? Or how about an asuran female and a male norn? Gotta include that inter-racial love too now. Should i even start at Charr and Humans, which is a step closer to bestiality? Will there ever be boundaries A-net will stop at?
All of this is just ridiculous, and i would rather not have it in GW2, or any other video game.
Please read post by Regina above you.
This “gay agenda” bullkitten is getting out of hand. They’re writing characters foremost, whatever nation, race, gender or sexual orientation they belong to is less relevant to the story.
Glad they finally came out lol. As to what happens next, who knows? No need to punish it with death. Ultimately, it’s up to Anet.
Funny how they mention on release page that the armor has been “re-designed” while it’s actually just a re-skin. :P
Dear Anet,
The living story you have provided us so far has its ups and downs, but I feel as though I can speak for the majority of people here when I say that the last two updates, especially the latest one is the best so far and has intrigued many players including me:) I see people discussing the current flow of story both in and outside the game, and it feels like you finally “nailed it”.
I talked before about how you present your story, and while it’s definitely getting better, it can get even better. For starters, we are visual creatures, and as such it is very important that all the crucial story elements and its characters are presented in a memorable, visual fashion.
It would be really, really good if we could get proper cut scenes in the future LS updates. Maybe even GW1- style cutscenes. Although they weren’t perfect…I feel as though they told a story better then GW2. Cutscenes in GW2 are really lacking, and when we do get one, it often felt like they were done real fast, with weird camera angles etc.
Cinematic cut scenes is something this game would much benefit from. Or keep the concept art ones, maybe that is even better.
Or, if it’s too much trouble, can we have at least regular cutscenes? I’m tired of seeing everything like a spectator while the NPC-s are talking there. I want to see Rox, Kasmeer, Bro-ham and Majory talk in this fashion:
Look! The character on the right is wearing her armor. How cool would that be? Is something like this being worked on?
Cheers
This is a really nice catch. I’ll try to find it myself…and about Logan? Where is he during this conversation with the asura kid?
And not to Anet, make such things more obvious in game :P Shame that we have to dig through forum to find those things..
Charr + Norn = corn! their kids would be candycorn! oh the horror we’ve been eating people all along! (perhaps an assumption too far?)
I almost choked while drinking water, that is amazing xD
On the OP, well it’s a kitten friend nothing more, don’t worry I’m sure Rox will choose wisely in the end. Or who knows maybe she will join Ryrtlock and Broham will be stuck with Taimi :P
Thought I picked up a vibe from those two, despite limited play due to computer problems. Good for them, I think they’re cute together. So that means DON’T GO KILLING KASMEER! It’s like Personal Story all over again; entire time I’m running with the bomb tech from that nice Asura couple I’m thinking “yeah, he’s toast.”
Omg…you mean those 2 asura in one of the Orr missions? Yeah, actually with order mentor death this was the only other death that left me with a gaping jaw of disbelief when the little guy died. I remember there was real emotion and good writing there…
Yeah…we can stop killing good characters now. Hang in there Kasmeer! T-T
why would you not want a dolyak pinata?
Good point. I redraw my statement. Anet writers, go ahead and add a Dolyak pinata! May I request a mesmer-pinata as well while you’re at it?
I failed to find the dolyak can somebody screencapture this?
Hi, not sure where to post this in order to get noticed but I noticed some horrible deformities with the necks of charr if you pick one of the new faces.
Above picture: new face
Below picture: old face
This is one of new faces in makeover kit, and every new one horribly deforms the neck and it just looks plain awful. The body types are the same, and it happens on every other body type. Can you please fix this?
(edited by CharrGirl.7896)
I love total makeover kit, but I would love it even more if you could add a full screen character creation when we use it! I don’t like that I have to come really close to my screen so I can see the changes I’m doing.
Any chance this is being planned?:)
It’s me again! I have come to bring back my CHARR!
Been playing around with animation glitches for my character when doing certain things and found a model freezing glitch. Check it
Ugh this moe moe kawaii uguuu charr face trend that started with Rox really ticks me off… if it were any other race i’d get it but this doesn’t fit charr ._.
It feels more like blatant fan-service to me.
To a guy and most heterosexual girls with any kind of bi-curious nature (aka every being alive because we are hard wired to kitten everything that is remotely erotic), any open lesbian relationship is/seems like blatant fanservice. Dont tell me you dont have that one friend (or are) who knows a same sex couple of pretty people and you kinda wish to be that third person in that threesome that will never happen because they aint interested in the opposite sex? If not where do you live that is so homophobic in this day and age…
Well that escalated quickly. :/
I’m not going to even bother responding to that. But anyway, yes it did come across as fan service to me. I don’t think that says anything about me as a person.
Hm, why do you feel it’s a fan service? I play with both my boyfriend and brother and neither of them felt that way, and they’re quite honest people. I also didn’t feel the fanservice. Are you referring to conversations, outfits, something else?
IMO the whole thing is extremely subtle and majority of the players didn’t even notice it. I was probably the only person in my guild who commented on that and most responses I got was “lol who’s Marjory?”
It feels more like blatant fan-service to me.
Also something funny: Girl and guy kissing in movie, awww and/or imput fanfiction smut, girl and girl/guy on guy – hot for people that like said gender, eewwww its fanservice by gender that likes the other sex…
I think you’re generalizing things here a bit. It all depends how it’s presented, not on the said sexual orientation of the person (mostly). There is a clear line between what is fan service and what is not.
Found this precious little video on youtube, have a good laugh :P
By the way, still taking bets on who’s dying this time when we do take down Scarlet. Rox, Kasmeer, Hobo-Tron, or Taimi.
I guess you’ll have to wait and see what happens.
Why? Why do you guys find it necessary to kill off characters? Given Most of the NPCs mentioned been around for a while, but (and it’s a big BUT) you just gave us any kind of connection to the characters in question. We just finally see their deeper side and we’re slowly connecting with their personalities. And you just kill them off right after you gave us something deeper?
If that’s the case, why should we bother connecting with characters to begin with? Why care for characters when you just gonna kill them off at any time in some kind of pointless sacrifice… And yes I am referring to the mentors from personal story. That was the only and (at least I was hoping till now) last time I personally cared for any character in this game. After I got to that scene in that mission I turned off the game hoping I did something wrong, maybe I picked a wrong line. I replayed that mission 4 times just to find out that there was no way around the fact in matter. Personal Story died for me then. And even though I finished PS 7 times now, everything past that moment is just more of a chore.
Now with Living Story we finally (after months of them being life-less NPCS) meet characters that have some depth into them that we can connect on. Some stories that we had no idea about until now are finally surfacing. And we already thinking which ones Anet will kill off?? What’s the point then? Why make characters that are deep, interesting and we finally learn to trust after what happened to our mentor (whichever one it might be) just to get hurt again?
Living Story is finally getting interesting. We’re practically starting it at this point when it comes to story part of it. Don’t make me regret it once again…
I feel the same way completely but he simply cannot just spoil it. Since a lot of people are making their bets and assumptions, even if nobody is going to get killed (which is my guess, and certainly hoping for) he can’t just tell at this point
The story instance didn’t really have any pay-offs. It was really a series of character moments that are pushing them along their respective arcs. It’s also worth noting that they will not all resolve at the same time or in the same release.
Fair enough. A “no pay-off” could certainly have been misunderstood as a “failed pay-off” in my case. I would probably have been happy with the “come back to my place,” “I’ll never leave” exchange without the tears preceding it. The marionette fight was traumatic enough, that the added drama about Kasmeer’s dad’s birthday (or was it death anniversary?) wasn’t required to push one character to reach out to the other in such a way. It just felt a little jarring (or overplayed), regardless of the sexual orientation of the characters involved.
I guess I’m saying it just didn’t resonate (the scene itself, not the relationship growth it was meant to show) with this particular player. Not a big deal. I’ve been rooting for them to ‘come out’ for a while now, perhaps I’m just getting impatient.
Death anniversary. And Kasmeer was already feeling down before the fight from what I remember. Also, that particular detail, about her father? Is payoff of a different sort – there’s been suggestions she’s had reasons to look down annoyedly at Lord Faren’s demeanor of “hey, live for the time of your life! Celebrate what’s good to get over the bad!” (an admirable quality in him and paints him as less of a buffoon than I took him for originally).
Could it have happened elsewhere? Yes, but not any earlier than this. Any later and it might get in the way of more serious matters coming up rather than being a somber note in an otherwise lighthearted part (like if she was doing it during Dragon Bash).
By the way, still taking bets on who’s dying this time when we do take down Scarlet. Rox, Kasmeer, Hobo-Tron, or Taimi.
taimi just got introduced, ain’t happening. plus her, rox and braham are the ties to destiny’s edge, the best way to bring those guys into living story. so my money is on them staying.
which leaves us with our oft-discussed couple.
I think Kasmeer is a dead woman walking.
Nyeh. In 90% stories I followed, be it games, shows, anime, book etc. whenever a supposed pairing becomes official one of them gets killed off. I think it’s because writers have no clue how to evolve them into a healthy relationship from that point.
So I hope this doesn’t happen here because it would fall under the said cliche… there are numerous jokes made about that. Fictional couples beware, if you become official, death flag for YOU. So stupid.
Kasmeer on Kasmeer
…mini giving biggie a shoulder to lean on
This is both hilarious and disturbing xD
A story would be good:) Better yet, has anyone noticed her golem sounds like one of those turrets from Portal ? :P
i have yet to see her talk to her golem, or see the golem talk. maybe i should sit next to her for a while.
You can’t talk to her golem, BUT, in Marionette event fight in lane 1 and you will hear her!
A story would be good:) Better yet, has anyone noticed her golem sounds like one of those turrets from Portal ? :P
There is good writing and there is we put this in to cater to the XYZ crowd, but its all irrelevant as we should not be mixing moster slaying with silly and pointless real life crusades.
A few things here:
- We didn’t put this in to cater to anyone. We’re just trying to tell a good story.
- No crusade going on here.
- Interesting characters and character moments make for a better experience overall. We’re not doing it at the expense of putting other things in the game.
What people don’t understand is that we wrote and voiced a lot of these moments throughout the year. Some scenes and story instances were cut or never implemented in the final releases, which is why this particular story instance was longer than the typical one and filled with lots of exposition.
And that’s why you create good stories. Shame that you have to explain the basics of good storytelling because most people feel offended at every little thing going on.
My guess you didn’t play GW1 because in one of the expansions we killed Abby :P
Wouldn’t the journal be her “old voice”? It was written before we first met Scarlet. The way she sounds in the rest of her appearances is her after whatever damage was done to her by the thing she writes about in her journal.
Actually she also sounds like that in the new marionette event, when her hologram appears. Whatever the reason for a change, lore-wise or they simply changed it because people (including myself) hated the old voice it’s great.
I getting tired of all these:
“Just wait until the end”
“all will be revealed soon”
“it’ll all make sense in the final chapter”it’s like some cheesy who-done-it novel we have to wait until the final few pages when the detective pieces all the clues together. I thought this was a high fantasy story.
Guild Wars was never high fantasy to begin with. It is a much more down-to-earth world, with lots more tech then your usual random world filled with magical elves and whatever else.
And I thought that piecing together bits of story is exactly the interactive content the LS needed
Try reading it.

If you think about it, the Aetherblades could be from another reality.
I think the story parts of this game are ok. I like most of the voice acting, especially the Charr, they are fun to listen to. Most of this instance was ok too.
But after reading the comments here I got a question: Am I the only one who put off by the Kasmeer and Marjory voice acting? The fake southern vampire TV soap drawl sounds to me like chalk screeching over blackboard. I could not watch True Blood because of that. Why are you assaulting my ears with it in a fantasy game.
Every identifyably american accent in such a game setting is a turn off. It beams me back down to earth in a heartbeat. Escapist fantasy moment over – exclamation point. I think its supposed to be smexy, but it’s just…. fake and grossing out my temporal lobe.
This instance was the most irritating performance for both yet.
- My peeve and I am sticking with it ;-)
.
I know a few more people who don’t like it so I guess you’re not alone :P
I personally think it’s one of the best VA in the game so far.
So I was just wandering around Black Citadel and I found a spot apparently FULL of cats at least 10 of them…just under that tavern :P
I couldn’t count them all because the camera is meh but this should give you an idea xD
As long as we get awesome story instances like in this current patch I’m good.
To be clear, the only “agenda” any of us at Arenanet have is to tell engaging and compelling stories using our medium of interactive narrative. Part of achieving that goal is to provide genuine and believable characters who have depth and interesting interpersonal dynamics, including the portrayal of complex and compelling relationships.
We have put much effort into making sure that Marjory, Kasmeer, Rox, Braham and now Taimi each bring a unique perspective to the overall Living World narrative, and we love exploring the various relationships of all of these characters, as well as those already established via the player’s personal story. You will see those relationships continue to grow and change, as you would expect of friends and comrades you encounter in real life.
Specifically with Marjory and Kasmeer, we’re trying to present two characters that have a burgeoning friendship and interest in one another, because that’s something that happens in life. We don’t generally talk much about it on forums or the like, because as has been pointed out before, we much prefer to tell their story in game wherever possible. But we would also like to think that our portrayal of their feelings towards each other is more than simply something you can define by “ticking a box”.
Regarding trimming stories of all but the “relevant details”: I would say that many of us on the dev team would actually agree with the idea that how two characters relate to one another, regardless of whether that interaction has direct bearing on the direction of the main plot-line, can and should be considered relevant. Such breadth of character traits may advance a side-plot, or no plot at all and can be used to simply establish a personality type or a behavior which informs a character’s actions as they progress through the narrative.
Of course there is a limit: Learning whether or not Braham likes ham, for example (say that five times fast) is probably better left on the cutting room floor, but exploring whether Braham likes Rox, or Taimi, or Logan (does anyone else want to see a guardian duel between these two?), well we believe that there’s real emotion there. And if it advances a plot, great…if not, it’s still part of the landscape of those characters, and that’s really important to us, and something that I would say we are more than eager and willing to explore.
And that’s why you’re awesome and keep it up!
Why would the only pay off be if one of them died? I noticed this pattern with a lot of stories, when certain characters become a pairing then one of them dies, because the writers obviously don’t know how to evolve them beyond that point, so death is their tool of development… I personally think it’s cheap and it sends a cliche, lame message.
There are many potential payoffs for this development. One is, as stated above, an eventual death for one (or both) of the Kasjory team, another is them becoming a couple (or good friends) for years to come, giving us a nice team for future Living stories. Yet another could be Kasmeer actually being evil and deliberately manipulating Jory’s emotions with the sad story to make her lower her guard for whatever nefarious reason before a later betrayal.
Also, I believe that any “cliche” can be used in a story as long as it’s used well; tropes aren’t inherently bad (as TVTropes and literary critics keep telling us xD) since so many stories have been told by now so one will inevitably run into “cliches” sooner or later no matter what one does. Using a well established trope doesn’t make a story “cheap”, IMHO. I’ve read many stories where the death of a pairing has had impact on the storyline in a good way, and not because “the writers obviously don’t know how to evolve them beyond that point, so death is their tool of development”. It can definitely be done well by a good author. Granted, bad writing can indeed make it come out in a bad way, but if it’s handled well not only character-wise but story-wise, it can give weight to the story in a good way just as further developing a friendship or romance further would do. It’s all in the pen of the storyteller, IMHO.
Same with characters that were “supposed” evil yet it oh so turns out they’re not, they do something for greater good, then die, without any redemption or character development past that point. I could mention at least 10 characters I know that are like this but….it would be kinda unfair to spoil since we’re talking about quite popular stories here.
Again, if it’s done well, it shouldn’t matter; using tropes is inevitable, so delivery is what matters. If writers make the characters interesting and complex and write a good story around them, the antagonist, for instance, can be more sympathetic or villainous and come off as a well fleshed out character, whether s/he’s a well intentioned extremist or has been your ally who reveals his/her true colours and betrays you in a shocking twist.
I’ve read/seen/played just as many stories with sympathetic antagonists being redeemed before their death as I’ve read stories where they reject redemption or even live on with the guilt of what they’ve done. There have been bad stories but also gems in the bunch, so it all depends on how well the author manages to convey the idea to the audience.
The present Living Story has had its ups and downs, but for the most part I’ve found myself enjoying it. There are lots of interesting story possibilities out there and many plots one can follow, and I believe Anet will deliver us some nice stories as they iron out the kinks and learns what works and doesn’t work story-wise.
Rytlock dies in the final chapter of Scarlets story, his warband is revealed and Destinys Edge is broken handing the reigns to Destinys Edge 2.Also Rox doesn’t have to stop adventuring with Braham.Game of Thrones fitting end. /discuss
This isn’t something the writing team can do at this point of time because it would conflict with Personal Story. Until they figure out how to separate PS from Living Story (and this can be done with a bit of tweaking, IMHO), they won’t be killing off any PS characters as that would only make people still leveling up their characters confused. And I certainly hope any of Destiny’s Edge bite the bullet yet as there’s still so much character development that they could go through…unless Anet has a good enough reason to make any of such deaths impactful in a good way instead of just in a “shocking swerve” way.
I pretty much agree with everything you say, I just think that death of a character to further the plot or to serve as a character development for somebody else has been overused and it’s bad if it can be seen a mile away, no matter what the delivery. Let them all stay with us I say, Dwaynna knows that we lack good characters in this game :P Finally we have them delivered, and it finally feels like I’m following a good ongoing story here. I totally can’t wait to see all the new LS releases with the new team… dunno, guess I’m a lore junkie and I’d be pretty bummed if anyone new died at this point. sigh
If the dialogue pays off and she or Marjory dies (increasing the weight of the emotional impact), she/Marjory existed to die. If it doesn’t pay off and she lives, she exists largely outside of the plot (which is worse imo).

If you look under the boss achievements, it’s called “Triple Threat” .
Wow that’s…..quite silly actually.
They are not the new DE.
They are a separate group of characters introduced through this living story.
Nobody needs to be replaced, finally we got likeable, actual characters ever since Tybalt and few others. No need to kill anybody either, just to fill in the “new DE quota” by copying the same story element for the sake of copying it.
No no no and no…I want them ALL to stay, I totally like them ever since this update, and keep on having them, replacing them would be a very, very bad idea.
I feel ripped off…gave 10 gold only so it would give me a honey dye which is 5 silver worth.
Anet, just let us BUY those exclusive dyes from the gem store, make it 100 gems for each exclusive color, enough with the gambling :/
I don’t like it at all, I prefer the joker-kind of voice. The new voice doesn’t make her seem mad at all :’(
Huh well, I haven’t read all the journals yet but from what I can see, she has been having nightmares and slowly lost her mind…I don’t think a “teeheee die die die die” high pitched voice we’ve heard before would fit that…
It’s a good change. The instant you hear her serious voice she seems 100% more menacing as a villain.
Or how about the oxymoron that are “ancient” saplings, eh eh?
Hyenas don’t howl either… that REALLY grinds my gears. It is completely anatomically impossible for a Hyena to vocalise with its head high.
Yeah they sound like wolves! What the hell…in guild wars 1 they sqeualed like REAL hyenas!

I’m sensing a recurring, somewhat creepy theme here.
Oh there is plenty of that on the internet already.
I mean just look at this minion photo-bomb!

Props to Anet for making Scarlet sound more adult and menacing then childish
I really really like her new voice, especially when reading the journals. Now I want to hear
more of it haha.
+1
Found this great artwork of Taimi I think it’s official:
official or not, it’s pretty.
yeah though my only problem with it is that she looks like she is crying :S
There is skinny option and there is normal option. Real proportion are out there in the game for you to choose.

I suppose a lot of people secretly feel uncomfortable with the topic. Whenever they discuss the topic of homosexuality, they feel the need to point out which side of the biological fence they are on.
Not necessarily. Some of us just get irritated when we sense that an agenda—-be it social, political, or whatever—-is getting shoehorned into a storyline that it has nothing to do with. If it were part of the storyline then yeah, I could see it. It’s not. Whom sleeps with whom has no bearing whatsoever on this particular storyline.
Part of the storyline? No, maybe not. Part of the characters and their development? Yeah. You’ll see in lots of stories little character tidbits that get thrown there to flesh em out better and give them more personality that overall may or may not tie in the general storyline but what’s a good storyline without its characters?
Found this great artwork of Taimi I think it’s official:
I am not gay (just wanted to get that out of the way)
Why do people feel the need to elaborate their sexual orientation before posting? Just curious. I noticed this pattern with lots of things…
