Last time I logged in and played before this update was a week or so. I exited the game before I could clear out my inventory (was doing events in Orr).

2 days ago I log in and I notice the Zap in my inventory. I really don’t know what’s funnier, the fact I didn’t register that I got a kitten precursor, or the fact that I almost sold it by accident when clearing my inventory. I’ll probably never know which mob dropped it – but it’s nice having lots of gold for once :P

My male Sylavri aren’t gay! However, I have to agree that the detail on many of the minis in the last two sets is disappointing. Even Lord Faren lost his looks.

Except they all are ;D

And yea some minis look terrible tbh. I don’t think I’ll ever buy special minis from the boxes again that are tied to certain LS release like the Scarlet’s champs ones…they look absolutely terrible up close. It’s like they didn’t even try to make it look decent.

Why does underwater combat have to suck?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: CharrGirl.7896

CharrGirl.7896

Depends on which class you play I guess.

As a warrior I enjoy killing stuff underwater because it’s really fast – contrast to my brother for example, he complains every time that his elementalist is severely underpowered under water.

We once did a test…I only used auto-attack to kill one mob, he used all of his skills on another one of the same type. I killed it faster just with auto attack while he used all of his skills and the mob had only half of its health reduced – and we are fully geared and put same boons etc.

So I guess it’s more of an issue of balance between professions for underwater combat which sucks.

A bet on next LS story

I didn’t like that they removed the repair cost. Now ppl will care even less if they die. -.-
If wp cost is removed then they won’t penalise the player for being unresponsible and don’t pay attention to what can kill em.

Yeah I always think to myself "oh kitten ! now I have to pay to repair my armor now that I’m dead! " except not..it was a trivial fee and removing costs mean almost nothing.

And it’s not like you always die due to your own fault. Sometimes a single member in a group can screw things up and result in a wipe, a simple lapse, or in most usual case, the lag. Lag has got me killed more then anything..

A little added note here, Outfits will still respect the ‘hide helm’ toggle so you can absolutely wear Wintersday or Mad King outfit without the hat or pumpkin.

But we want to dye them! And mix them up with other items!

Behold the beauty of an Asura with a pink wintersday outfit and a pink quaggan hat. This has been possible for a year, and now it suddenly isn’t anymore? I thought this patch was supposed to allow us more flexibility with armor? Seriously, at least tell us why you are doing this. As it is now, I can only assume that you just hate cute Asura in pink Wintersday outfits and pink Quaggan hats. And that’s evil.

Outfits can still be dyed, They will have up to 4 dye channels depending on the outfit.

Sorry about the mix-and-match. Converting things to be armor and combat compatible did come with some trade-offs. For the most part we tried to favor mixing with armor slots and skins (a lot more possible combinations). Hopefully we’ll see more consistently usable customization now that part of it isn’t hidden in town clothes that get turned off every fight. Outfits come as a set and equip as a set with the added benefit of not costing charges or requiring items to apply onto additional characters.

At the risk of sounding too harsh I’ll say this: if we cant mix outfits anymore, you better provide kitten good looking outfits in the future. NO clipping, especially tail clipping, NO exaggerated differences between male and female clothes. I could go on…

Reason why I say this is because there hasn’t been a single set of “outfits” as you now call them that I liked as a whole. Wearing town clothes means little to me, but I can definitely understand the concerns and disappointment of people who like to mix them. It should be self-explanatory as to why.

This is almost the same as not letting us mix armor sets.

I have 2-3 bought town clothes, one is mad kings outfit for my charr, cook’s outfit (because it suits them kinda nice) and reading glasses for my human. But I dyed those glasses purple, because it’s kinda cute, and inrl I also wear similar looking glasses. What they’re going to revert back to boring old grey and I won’t be able to dye it?

ArenaNET – please, reconsider. Limiting mixing of town clothes and not allowing your customers to dye individual old pieces will backfire. There is no logic, no reason behind this change, unless you have some technical difficulties with the new wardrobe system that doesn’t allow you to create separate town clothes tab for mixing. If something like that is the case, you need to work better. Don’t wanna sound pompous or anything, but we’ve been hearing “we can’t do this and that due to tech limitations” quite often by now.

You have our all support, and thousands of players are supporting you via gem store, in hoping that our donations will help you create a better game. And you are, definitely. But this whole town clothing fiasco will do nothing but damage you, and your customers, especially people who paid real money, not gold, on items. Expect to see a lot of demands for refunds.

We just want a sensible explanation, not “it had to be done, live with it”. Sorry that won’t do – if something’s wrong, share it with us, so we can give you ideas. Stop being so secretive and communicate with us months prior to big changes like these, especially when you highlight that the wardrobe system was planned months ago. Did you really, honestly expect a positive feedback on this? Or you think it’s safe to announce big unwanted changes few weeks before update?

Maybe there is still hope to change things?

There has to be a better solution to this.

I still don’t understand why it was made, even after carefully reading 2 times about it.

Nerfing critical damage users won’t make em want to play other builds that rely less on damage any more – even if the damage won’t be overall that much smaller. If nothing else, it will make me want to stack up as much ferocity as I can, and go full dps once again. If I had a say in it, I’d rather boost conditional damage or something.

So unless somebody has a…better explanation to me this was a nonsensical change.

It is extremely important for people to be able to see themselves represented positively in the media they consume. I’m fully aware that Jory and Kas are not real people, but their sexual identities and relationship represent the experiences of a set of real people, so excluding them amounts to being exclusive of part of your player base. It’s the same reason it’s important to have good/numerous female characters, and characters (where human xD) of diverse races.

Again, if your stance is that “it’s just a game”, “it’s just fiction” and representation doesn’t matter, then that’s another point for mutual disagreement so I won’t push that, but I did want to clarify what I meant.

Well said. I had no problem at all with them, even though as a straight female “I shouldn’t be able to relate to them”. Well I did. You just gotta look past the outer shell and ignore that one side has an extra pair of…. cough Who cares…

Season 1 | Lack of Major Male Characters!

in Living World

Posted by: CharrGirl.7896

CharrGirl.7896

Conclusion: To be fair you missed my point entirely. My point is “Balance” not dominance.

The only time this cry for “balance” seems to come up is when there are more female characters in a game.

Do you know how many of the top 25 games released last year had females as the main characters? One single solitary game (Tomb Raider). Where were the cries for balance then?

And here we have GW2 with a higher than normal proportion of female NPCs (not even main characters, as your character is arguably the hero of the story, but in a cast of side characters) and suddenly it becomes “Oh no, where are the male characters, won’t somebody think about the balance. Please add male characters so we can relate to them.”

Well said. If I were to specifically choose games to play with characters I could relate to based on my gender, I wouldn’t play games at all. This last Tomb Raider game is one of the rare few where you have a female protagonist. Nearly every other good, story-driven game has more male then female characters. (Few on my mind: Bio-shock series, Half Life series, Wolf Among Us, Walking Dead, etc.)

I just learned to ignore it and enjoy the story as a whole, instead of dwelling on how many females are there in comparison to males.

I was introduced to Majory and Kasmeer during the Nightmare Begins update. I’ve seen all the story instances involving our lesbian pair from that point on, but most of the stuff was involving the story, not romantic scenes. The relationship was ambiguous until the current update. The only way I know that the relationship is sexualized is because of the french kiss. Filmmakers in the US often use the kiss to symbolize a sexual relationship without resorting to bedroom scenes. (See http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/French_kiss for more info)

Why I stress the need for building up healthy LGBT relationships: It’s no secret in the US that the LGBT relationships (fiction and non-fictional) are often exploited for cheap porn. Hollywood does this all the time to get people to pay for theater seats or watch their shows. The problem with portrayals that focus on only sex is that the religious right uses these images to say that the LGBT community is perverted and often use the images to hamper the LGBT rights. I’m a human right activist in RL, so I hate it when the media spreads images that give the haters fuel to deny LGBT people their rights.

I’m sorry…what? How do you know it was a frigging french kiss? They barely have the tech atm to animate anything like that. It was more like a 2 second peck on the lips more then anything…

Also this isn’t a US Hollywood studio. What you’re describing is completely different then what was shown in this game. This isn’t about “exploiting characters for the sake of cheap porn”.

Also kiss = sex? Really? And what kind of relationship, in it’s core, isn’t part sexualized? Last time I checked, we’re humans, not robots, and that’s what people do when they’re in a relationship. You’re thinking way, way too hard about this…

My god some people sure are blowing this out of proportion. I almost feel sorry for Anet at this point, hopefully they won’t feel discouraged from evolving their writing of these characters.

If I had to give one tip, that would be don’t make it difficult for average speedy player to follow their conversations. I kinda sort of learned that if I wanted to learn more about characters I have to stick around their NPC-s and wait for a convo to pop up. It’s no wonder some people failed to pick up the vibes then? Maybe make it easier to follow somehow.

No, seriously, the real concern now is why you keep ducking the question or deflecting it. That’s getting irritating to watch continue, so either decline to answer it or leave it alone. And this is coming from someone who doesn’t really have a personal problem with your posts yet.

Well it is obvious he is avoiding the question because he’s trying to be polite as possible, and doesn’t wish to foil the tread with “I think it’s wrong because I don’t like it/they don’t produce children” or whatever reason I heard people say.

The simple fact that mods have not locked this hatefilled charade of homophobia is disturbing to say the least.

The only post in this topic so far that seems hate-filled, seems to be this one. ^

I think a lot of players have expressed in very respectful and reasonable ways, why they felt the kiss scene felt forced and out of place. I do not believe they deserve to have homophobic labels pasted on their foreheads for expressing that opinion.

By " a lot" of people you mean the vocal minority which probably consists of 10% player base or even less? And even less then that in fact, since only a few replied to this thread? I’m no expert. If you want to run full statistics you’d need to survey every single player out there and we’ll see how it goes lol.

I really like most of your posts truly, and admire em. But. You’ve been consistently repeating the same thing in this and every other thread about Kas and Jory how it’s forced, out of place, etc etc. I know that some people share your views. I don’t – and that’s fine. Plus , you are extremely fixated on one thing and choose to ignore the other side.

What’s becoming tiresome is this repetitiveness. In the end what are you, and other people who don’t like it going to do? Complain about this relationship till one of them dies? Complain every single time they get screen time? Does a mere 2 second kiss of relief really deserve this much attention?

We have a dragon on the loose people!

There is simply no end to this, but I would implore you that you just stop and think for a second, what this means to people who are like them, and who ever so rarely get to be in the spotlight.

Let there be positive feedback for once. I can only imagine how homosexuals feel about this negativity, after literally everything that is hetero being forced down their throats, to actively discuss in a thread with so much bashing

Yes. They. Are.

What happened here is the same as you getting “The Big Kiss” in a movie between two people of different genders. With moderately less fanfare (no swelling music in the soundtrack, no orbiting camera and slow clap…).

I respectfully disagree. It felt to me like they were going for “the money shot”. As if everything had been leading up to that kiss. It was almost as if the writers felt the need to prove that they really are a romantic couple, and that yes, they’re not afraid to show it.

That’s why to me it felt forced and heavy handed. I don’t mind their decision to include it, and I think the intention is good. But it seems to me that the writers are still struggling with how to handle the concept of homosexual relationships in a videogame.

When ever videogame writers tackle these sorts of topics, it often feel like they are struggling to find a sheet of paper, and then knock over the vial of ink by accident.

Anyways, there’s a time and a place for those sort of scenes as well in my opinion. I don’t think that was the time or the place. If you removed that scene from the mini dungeon, does it really change anything? Does it affect its moods or atmosphere? Not really. That kiss would have been better placed in a celebration.

In a situation like this, i would apply the “if the gender/orientation was swapped, how would it look?” test. If it were a man who just saw his female lover seemingly come back from the dead in his arms immediately after a climactic battle, i’d almost expect him to kiss her. It seems strange to expect them to wait till some later time to show strong emotion. Right when your partner comes back from death’s door is exactly when it makes sense to hold them close and kiss them.

Exactly. I would have done the same. It’s only natural thing to do.
