Disclaimer: I do not mind the direction the game is going. Copying other successful games is quite common in this industry. I just feel like the development of GW2 with the new expansion is a step closer to the old-fashioned way – be it for good or bad.
Heart of Thorns is around the corner, and ANet surely tries to make it sound unique and innovative. But if you take a closer look, this expansion is a move back to the older days and away from the “rebel” image GW2 had since the Manifesto was released (no discussing the Manifesto please ^^).
While some stuff was labeled with different names, they are still just more of the same old same we have seen over the last two decades (for the better or worse).
Raids: Well, nothing to say about that. Hard content for bigger groups offering the fanciest rewards. We have seen this before in other games.
Trinity: Tank/Healer/DD, Control/Support/Damage, it is actually hard to see a difference. People will be locked into a role to make raids work. Replacing one trinity with a different one is just a camouflage. The fact that ANet is actually talking about a trinity is slightly irritating in the first place.
Gated Items: The fanciest items will be locked behind raids (legendary armor) and difficult group content (legendary backpiece). While people will tell you that you don’t need them, it is still a fact that the nicest, most convinient and most prestige items are locked behind raids and high level fractals. They are for the elite, which is being established in the process of creating raids btw.
Reputation Grind: Yeah, I know, ANet calls their reputation system “Masteries”. But hey, masteries are pretty much the same as a traditional reputation grind. You earn mastery for the frog people, they give you special rewards. You earn reputation for the frog people, they give you special rewards. Look, no difference.
Druids: Just kidding here, I love druids.
There are more additions, but I think you get the point. We are moving into the direction of most other MMOs out there.
With rep grind, raids and trinity as well as raid gated items being actually promoted as new core mechanisms of GW2, the game has moved away from it’s former image of being made for a more casuals crowd towards an elite audience. This doesn’t have to be a bad thing – and only time will tell. But with all these additions, GW2 starts to feel way less unique, and that’s the part that sort of irks me.
Trinity – well control/support/damage is 3 years old news. I don’t think HoT brought it, just that ANet found a way(hopefully) to use it.
Gated items – the legendary weapons are gated behind a precursor hunt or w/e it’s called, glorious armor is gated behind PvP matches, the WvW tournaments awards are locked behind WvW.
Reputation grind – I guess it depends how you look at it. You think of it as reputation grind, some people think of it as leveling your hero. Also grind is doing the same task over and over again, but you can do different things to level your masteries.
I think that it is about time a single activity/mode to give unique rewards. But for the love of all the is holy DO NOT forget to give unique skins to the other modes. That would be a slap to the face to everyone playing PvP/WvW(Was gonna say Fractals but they have the backpack).
To all the people complaining about this on a financial basis.
Really?
You spent at most 50 bucks for the game three years ago. That’s what these free to play people are getting.
Do you barge in to the electronics store you bought your TV in and demand a 50% refund when it goes on a 50% off sale? snipped for brevity
No, it wasn’t just a 50 dollar purchase initially. Not for many vets that I know of and not for me personally. I know I have put in over $1000 additional dollars over the years I’ve had the game (and most of that was in the first 2 years of having the game) because i wanted to support the game and the developers while they were providing all of that living world content. This was because they explicitly stated that they were (at the time) only delivering new content via living world, so I wanted to support them through that endeavor.
Then they reveal that their LW content creators were really just a skeleton crew and most of their team was working on something bigger. Expansion talk was now on the horizon, but while that was going on, they made some HORRIBLE game breaking decisions for the game that languished on for over a year and which sent many players away from the game, new and old. Over the course of the game they have increasingly done things to push veteran players away and NOW they announce raids and harder content (which we don’t know if they even will be after a month of so), but its still all locked in behind HoT, so its either buy HoT at full game price or you don’t get to take part in that content. But here, just to show you we’re thinking about you, have an outfit you’ll never wear or care about and please head to our gemstore for the latest thing we want to sell you this week.
People are tired of Anet’s BS and this thread is going to be a LONG one. Unless they find some reason to bury it.
That is a lame excuse. Nobody forced you to spend more than 50$ on the game. You did it on your own accord because you wanted/liked something.
Also the LW was going to be their main content provider but the community wanted more than that, expansion(if you were visiting the forums during the 3 years you played you know this is true). Plus they will continue with the LW updates so it’s not just a skeleton crew.
ANet said that future content would be focused on HoT so is it a surprise that raids would require you to buy the expansion?
Is there a thread where I can express my overwhelming anger about the treatment of veteran players in this whole deal? If so please move this post to that thread.
I have played this game for 1100 days at this moment, not counting beta… this includes the pre-release and everything. I paid every penny for my game and I put money into the game. All of my own choice of course, but as a person who made the effort to support the game I cannot feel a little sour over the fact that I am paying 120 dollars to play HOT, when new players got refunds on their original game copy, and even newer players got the game outright free… Anet’s response to this was far worse than pathetic. No discount on HOT, no refund or even a gem bonus for loyalty rewards… we get some kitten kitten looking dinky “royal guard” skin that so far most of my guild has added to collection never to be touched again because it looks like something they had a high school intern design…
Before I get flooded with posts about entitlement and the value of 3 years of “free content” understand that while I may sound entitled, any one person would be a bit sour over the deal that is given to veteran players. We purchased the game… we supported it… we built this community and in a lot of ways this game… and we are rewarded for this effort and monetary and non-monetary support by them handing us a useless kittenty skin with one hand while reaching in our pockets AGAIN…
We tried out best not to complain over the ages, not when you stopped releasing content, or started charging for garbage content like living worlds… anet I am sure you know what kind of flop that was… but this is just in a lot of ways unprofessional. You are pandering to new players giving them the deal of the century, and rewarded your veterans, your loyalists, fans and supporters… by charging us full price a second time around. By the time HOT comes out I will have payed 140 dollars minimum for this game, not counting time investment and microtransactions… That is a bit much considering for 60 dollars I can get every piece of the game in its entirety…
The worst part is they sort of slapped us in the face with this. It would have been better if they gave us no compensation because then we could still be hoping they would reward us for our loyalty… but instead this… this royal guard skin… it is like the golden pen they give you when they force you to retire from a company… its like a very shiny kitten you that you will never use…
I guess I will put my tin foil hat on and hope that arena net is visited by the spirits of expansions past present and future…. so when it wakes up tomorrow it might find some semblance of respect for its active and loyal fan base… instead of milking us like cows in a stall because you know we stand to lose more in our time investment by quitting the game, even though we should in principle…
Anet, kitten your disingenuous business practices during this whole deal…
<End Rant>
I agree with you. BUT not only that, i also miss the times when computers costed hundred thousands of dollars. It is so unfair for people to get the same today for 1/100th of the cost 20 years ago. Don’t let me get started on the iphone 1 fiasco.
At the announcement of raids the president talked about 3 roles – damage, support, control. ANet is trying to make all classes equal in the way that everyone can fill one of the 3 roles. The difference is in the way they do it. So when you want to do raids you don’t have to look for 2 thiefs,2 warr,2 rangers,3eles,1 guard(just random proffs), you just need tp find 9 friends and you can swap around the traits to get what you need.
An expansion for a regular game is never as expensive as the original game was, clearly Gw2 is an MMO and clearly people play it more than most games (buy a game, compelet it, never paly it again etc is NOT what you do with an MMO). Its perfectly logical to look at the price for HoT and say “that looks like a new game” – in a way it is a new game, just look at whats happening to the core game.
All the content we have helped to create over the last three years is now being given away for free, that means its worthless. HoT isnt an expansion for GW2, it is all GW2 will be from relese day and thereafter. Of course when the next expansion comes out HoT will be added to F2P and what you pay today will be as worthless as the core game.
This isnt a regular “expansion” like wow and its not an “expansion” in the way GW1 had “expansions”, this is a different concept where the “old” game is given away free to attract new players and the existing (new non-F2P) players are given new content and progression (make no mistake, masteries will be required, they are the new way to level your char) to keep them playing. This is somewhere between wow expansions and the original subscription-free GW1 concept.
Why are so many people bunching up free with worthless? This is not the same.
Didn’t we already had the same discussion when HoT pre-purchase was announced about the price? So people are not upset because the game is free now but because someone will pay less today for something they bought 3 years ago.
I dont have a problem with f2p, I think it’s a fantastic idea. I don’t have a problem the base game not getting any future updates because the base game is basically finished. Ofcourse I also bought HoT.
As a veteran gw2 player I have had to pay for two games. The base game and HoT. That is perfectly fine. What I don’t understand is that new players only have to pay for one game while I have to pay for two games. This makes me feel like I have wasted my money because I did not wait until all the expansions came out so I could save a bunch of money. I think it is really unfair to the playes who purchased the game when it came out.
The saying “Time is money”is relevant here. You’ve payed for 3 years of GW2. Not gonna talk about HoT because its the same for you and the new player- they have to buy it to get its benefits.
I do not understand how not using the TP alienates you from the community?
The TP is one of the few areas that actually manages to reward players in any meaningful way, due to the heavy RNG in the game, and the low amount of overall coin from anything that isn’t a specific dungeon run.
When you remove the ability to use the TP, you remove a major reward source.
I asked you about the community restriction, you tried to change the subject. Are you implying that you have no answer to my question?
Because it will still get people to try the game out.
It really won’t.
SWTOR lives and thrives despite its heavy, HEAVY restrictions by the grace of the name Star Wars and the legacy that holds, as well as it having a fairly strong single player mode through the
GW2 is a three year old game that failed to be the esports hero it wanted so bad to be, and it’s a game that thrives off group content. And now its F2P option is one step away from being another SWTOR, without the name hype.
I understand full well why the restrictions exist, because of how economy/TP focused they decided to make this game. And that’s why this F2P won’t work. In order to prevent free players from disrupting an already fragile economy, you have to remove them from that economy as much as possible, and to some extent, you have to remove them from the community as a whole as well.
But when you do that, you’re removing them from the game that you’re telling them they can supposedly play.
It’s basically a demo version,
Then they should have stuck with a 14 free trial system. Or a “to level x” trial system.
I do not understand how not using the TP alienates you from the community?
This is to prevent gold selling
2 BWE are fine i guess. I did not understand the stream correctly and assumed only 1 more after next weeks BWE.
Well, a lot of people said in the last thread that we do not know how many BWE we will have so we might get enough time to test those 2 specs. Way too optimistic of them.
The good thing is that i main a ranger so i am used to getting the short end of the stick.
I could just see it.
Anet: Ok guys/gals we are going to put Engi and Druid into the beta weekend but be forewarned they have not been finished and are still completely unplayable.
Players: Both Engi and Druid need a lot of work they seem to be unplayable.
Anet: As we stated both classes are unfinished and unplayable, but you all wanted fair equal test time.
Players: I don’t get it why would you put unplayable, unfinished classes in for testing, it makes no sense, what are we suppose to test ?
Anet: Ok next Beta weekend Engi’s and Druids will be removed from testing so we can finish working on them and make them playable so testing is more accurate.
Players: WHAT ! This is BS now they don’t get as much test time, it’s unfair, I want to play Engi or Druid.
Anet: ……..
Actually the response would be:
Players: Druid and Engi are unplayable because of a,b,c,d,e,f and w/e reason.
ANet: Oh cool we could fix that.
Like, you know, the revenant
I saw the thread title in the Dev Tracker and was so happy to see someone finally would do something about the AA only to find out it’s a respond to a revenant problem. Again.
omgosh all the qq.. Rangers are sad that one of our weapons actually takes skill to use and that we cant just Spam 2 to win? The Horror! Actually sword is perfectly viable. you can dodge within the animations between #3 and #1 AA. Also the #3 attack on sword will break the animation and reposition you. In PvP it is perfectly viable as a weapon. If you are not careful yes you can jump off cliffs but I find that it excels in chasing foes and that random gap closer if you target an enemy on the other side of the room on the Leap skill
Hilarious that.
Grow up. The complain is about the clunkiness of the weapon and anyone not seeing it is just blind or accepted his fate.
Gamers are so spoiled these days.
Yeah, I’m so spoiled for expecting something that was promised to be delivered 20+ months ago. I mean, if my grandchildren can see the new legenderies, I’m OK with it.
You were promised that they will try to give legendaries. You were not promised that they will, 100%, give you ones.
I hope I am wrong, but I am envisioning Leagues to just be another grind in the style of “animal ranks”. The closest thing to a positive I saw in the blog was the mention of Guild Leaderboards. This seems like it will be the true ranking system for teams, and the closest thing to a PvP leaderboard we will be getting.
But then what happens if it is a big guild or one with a desire to have multiple teams? Are you forcing us to pick 1 team? Do all of the ranked games under the guild tag count toward the leaderboard (regardless of which members are playing?). Thinking about this, I think many players will make small guilds of 5-10 players for serious leaderboard play. Another failure.
You can be a part of multiple teams and the rewards is based on the team performance as a whole not the guild. It was in the announcement but i guess they forgot to put it in the blog post.
People who play sports threw there computer dont understand. When you play a sport you have to fight at each level for minutes and plays called for you. After fighting your team mates in practice and proving who is better. You play against people and then you see all those people from the 6th grade and up. If your fortunate enough to make it to college it gets even more intense.
People here wouldnt understand if these guys said they were the best players at there classes. Many people come on this forum and talk about how unfair certain things are but then these players at these big tourneys do it with there classes and there builds.
People who buy this game want to be competitive with any build they put out there without putting the time in or understanding of how there ability/build/rotation works with in the team concept. These guys are being nice cause this is the Guild Wars community. A bit soft and dont like hearing anything towards another person or team.
If you ever play against elite people there silent vs people who arent at that level. When you play someone at the same level as you and your the cream of the crop, trash talking is what is suppose to happen. You call people nick names such as tin man or forrest. For the guild wars community its trolling but to me its the best players competing against one another and calling each other out which would only enhance there level of play.
Lastly anet can we increase this tourney to the top 8 teams. Would like to see the top 10 players from each region at least. Would of loved to see the tcg at boston and 3 of the other best teams world wide. Also no double elimination, this is the wts best out of 3 and there out.
I’ve practiced a sport more than 10 years, went to many international competitions, have many medals from regional ones. What you said is complete bull…t.
It’s not what players say its what they do that attracts people. You can have the loudest mouth but if you don’t have the skills nobody would care for you.
It says you drop tiers. Tiers are different sections within divisions.
Here’s the full description from Curse:
“There are six Divisions, starting with Amber and ending at Legendary. Divisions are broken up into a variable number of tiers, and each tier has several pips. To cross into the next division, you must complete all the tiers in your current division.
“Division 1, the starter division, will only award forward progress, but once you hit Division 2 and 3, winning begins to matter as you will begin to lose pips when you lose matches. Note, you won’t lose tiers, just pips. Once you hit Division 4 and 5, the advanced divisions, you’ll have to step up your game, as you can lose pips and tiers. A big thing to note is that you will never go back to a previous division during a season, so if you do fail, there is a limit to how far you’ll be set back. The final division is the Legendary Division. It’s a repeatable division that provides a higher tier of rewards.”
These sound more like glorified reward tracks than actual leagues — particularly the part about farming the legendary division over and over.
But, again, I think that’s fine because it seems like guild team leaderboards, which will be used to qualify for tournaments, will be ELO-based.
To me it sounded like LoL divisions. I’ll be ok with that.

This is not a beta, this is a demo for a) tricking people to pre-purchase the game and b) actually rewarding people who got lured into the trap.
The area to play in is so tiny that there should be no surprises for the QA team, the duration is too short to get any valuable data from the “test”.
Real beta testing is a thing of the past or – in rare cases – some more serious companies than ANet, this is just a teaser for the hype.
Feel free to send feedback, but don’t expect anything to change.
Beta test weekend my kitten…
I have to agree with Kaiyanwan.8521, this is not real beta testing situation. It is just a teaser for the hype.
In real beta testing there should be a document where all testers can read known issues relating to this beta testing. Those issues are what QA team have seen, but Anet haven’t got time to fix yet. When people are testing they can read from that document what issues are already known and that way they can find out what issues are new ones, so they can report only those new ones. That is Beta testing.
So my guess is this, people are sending bug reports what are already known by ArenaNet. People are feeling important by doing reporting and they think that they are really beta testing the game. But infact they are doing same reports what QA have already done before.
So this is not real beta testing situation, it is just try to start hype train again.
I have played almost every MMO from the past 10 years(granted some of them only for a couple of hours) and i’ve played in multiple betas. I have never seen anything even remotely close to what you are talking about. Betas have always been done like this weekends beta.
Can we differentiate between reaper and GS. From what i red you are complaining about GS and not reaper.
It wasn’t that much more informative.
You know what I don’t get? Why there is total dev silence on the profession forums. Honestly if I was Ranger dev, I’d be on here most days letting people know what is going on, discussing balance etc. I’d make it a part of the work day. Seriously, any dev that did that would be just loved and idolised by many people (not the reason I would do it) and nothing but good would come from it. Sure, you would get QQ etc, but after a while you would be defended against all hecklers by the forum regulars for sure. Would be the envy of all professions. I was thinking about this the other day and came to the conclusion that it must really just be a job for them, otherwise, why not get involved with the discussion?
The answer would be that they are focused on HoT. Not that they had any presence before that. It just feels kittenty to create a forum and not spend any resources to hire people to talk to your player base.
You forgot to put your tinfoil hat on.
Insane and gamebreaking. Pulsing area blind? What the… and that huge fire field? How long does it last? You can blast it like 6 times alone.
WP is going to be happy, but those are serious issues. Ele is already the strongest class, so those things are going to provoke a ele nerf or a buff of all the other classes (maybe after a couple of years…), both bad things.
If classes are too strong, content is not fun.
Most ridiculous thing i’ve ever read.
How is elementalist “The strongest proffession” seriously? we’re locked into ONE BUILD atm, we litterally are forced into 0 Diversity because how little really does work in the proffession sure we’re good at something and that makes us a top tier pvp proffession but no where near broken.
we can even be D/D Sustain and Decent Damage or a full bunker, we have 0 Competitive Condi builds 0 Effective Power builds…. we’re litterally forced into One Jack of Trades which has abit of everything but not as powerful as any other proffession can really excel in.
The burn field? its called Moving out of it…. its a Pathway of Fire, do u just Stand in our fire expecting it not to do any damage cause ur lazy? No, it isnt like we have incredible range we’d have to follow u OFF the field to do anymore damage so effectively MOVING is a complete counter to the effects. we’re giving up Ring of Fire for it anyway lol.
Dust stom?… it does look strong very strong in situations, wouldnt say OP though – Most can clear condis if it was to effect them too much and also tbh its within a area again so u can easily just move away from it, we’re getting some good AoEs which will require u to actually move yes… that doesnt make it broken.
it does NOT provoke Nerfs to Elementalist, With the amount elementalist will lose it actually takes ALOT from the elementalist which people like u deem “strongest”.. Alot of now muichly needed skills are dissapearing without offhand dagger, it isnt like they’ve moved any of those Amazing skills across to keep us using them, the inital loss of those Will put us far beneath the belt so that none of this will effect us.
Remember, u have to look at a Elementalist with only 3 of its attacks, (without offhand dagger) to see what areas will be good/bad not Imagine it with BOTH Weapons and Stack these Ontop cause thats just NOT happening, Were REPLACING our off hand weapon with this new one not combining them.
That said, OP why would buffing underperforming classes be a bad thing? They need the buffs.
of course, but if all classes become like ele/tempest then it’s bad. Atm ele can reach 17k dps, now pulsing area blind lol. Not even squishy anymore
the Pulsing blind wont even have that much of a Effect in PvE, its two pulses with a huge CD like 2 strikes will make that massive difference in its Survival lol, seriously if ur going to actually try to press this It’ll only make a Impact in PvP, we all know that, Challanging Content, THe bosses will likely be immune to Blinds etc etc as part of mechanics Dont know if u noticed BUT EVERY GAME HAS THAT STANDARD!!!
this will only effect PvP and Im seeing With the Loss of Mobility a Loss in its Sustain And becoming hugely countered by Mesmers and Thief it’ll Suffer Nothing close to a nerf for this, it isnt Overpowered or broken.
Against Monsters in PvE, ur ment to win, the designs are for u to WIN, so why would it matter lol.
It is quite strong in WvW as well. Not everything spins around PvE and lots of people forget to mention other mods when talking about skills.
P.S. To the people saying the ranger is fine atm – LOL. Yeah, right.
I think the biggest reason for people leaving is being locked in the mist.
I cannot understand your logic. You are saying that 60$ is too much so your solution is monthly subscription of 15$, what is the connection between the two?
There’s already a topic about HoT price.

So basically the old player have to pay for the expansion even tough they payed for the main game … and new players get the core game FOR FREE ?!
IS THAT WHAT WE GET FOR BUYING AND PLAYING YOUR GAME !?
Welcome to the MMO genre
Here are the changes that I’d like to see to the next test.
1. Channeling a hero should be interrupted by damage, not just cc
2. Players should not be able to channel while in an invulnerable state.
3. Eles in the down state should not be allowed to run through their base portalBeyond that, this beta was definitely more fun than the previous one.
Interrupt on damage would be too much. It would slow the game down too much.
But there are issues now too. I can plague channel and never get CC’d.I disagree that it would slow down the game. It would FORCE more PvP action which is a positive. The team who wins the fight gets the champion. Right now it is the team who has someone that can pulse stability.
Just picture some scenarios:
1. Thief – just hits you and stealth away. Wait for you to start channeling and hits you again and runs away. Why should he fights you if all he needs is a hit?
2. A ranger with longbow can hit you from the middle point where the supply is. Kinda hard to avoid.
I believe the problem is not with the condition in itself but with certain abilities. I hope tomorrow we will see another balance update.

Let me get this straight as veteran player: if I pre-purchase the expansion I will get a free character slot; but if I purchase the expansion after release will I still get that free character slot?
No. We do not know what ANet will offer us for the normal edition(it might be something like the heroic edition right now or like the standard edition at the begining), but the char slot is probably a pre-purchase bonus so it probably won’t transfer after release.
It’s just a lot worse than before since the condi+burst update. Until Anet rebalance the game there is nothing we can do but play this or take a break.
It is just different. There are some things that need changes but over all the game is better right now(personal opinion) because the bunker/celestial meta was SO boring. BUT OP was not talking about skill balance, he was talking about class stacking which is different.
Almost every class can play a different role so it is nearly impossible to differentiate them before entering a match just based on class.
I think the last response was that they have started refunding and that it will take couple of weeks.
I’ve seen 2 or 3 of the same class in ranked/unranked since the beginning. It was pretty common before when there was a daily to win with a certain class.
It has always been like this.
It’s not abandoned, just the focus is on PvE. From what i red GW1 started as a PvP focused game but the PvE part in it overcome everything else and that’s why we have PvE focused GW2.

Lol regardless. The only reason I bought Gw2 was because of it having no subscription fees. Otherwise, they wouldn’t get any money from me or players like me because some subscription games are much better than Gw2. I guarantee allot of people won’t buy the expansion. Instead, they will wait till the price goes down or better content is released worth buying.
I don’t know what you expected from a game that you haven’t even given a chance. There are a lot of good single player games out there, maybe try some of them?
[SNIP]…The price is what it is, we are all now getting the free character slot for the Rev. No reason to be unhappy about that.
No, we are not “all now getting the free character slot for the Rev”. That’s my whole point. Only the people who pre-purchase are getting the character slot.
I don’t mind pre-purchase incentives for people who want to give money to a company in return for a promise of future product delivery. Things like weapon skins, or a new costume, or even exclusive armor skins…all fine. But a character slot is necessary to gain full use of the product they are already charging fifty dollars for. There is no ethical reason at all for them to expect people to pay even more money to access the new profession or have to delete a character.
It’s an unnecessarily manipulative sales tactic and is most definitely a reason for some of us to be unhappy. I get that you’re happy with being forced to pre-purchase in order to get a character slot for the new profession, and that’s fine. More power to you.
You do not have any information about the standard HoT package. You are just speculating and twisting the facts to your liking. Only HoT pre-purchasers are getting character slot is correct because we do not have any information about anything else.
“unnecessarily manipulative sales tactic” – this is wrong.
Grymm Svaard is locked unless you have HoT. I believe this is a bug.
It has been explained 100 times already. Please search the forums and you will find everything explained.

What is a veteran WvW player bringing more than a new player? Zerg tactics only. If blob vs blob is what you guys want the BL to be tested than i understand. But outside of that a veteran player would be the same as new player.
Well a lot of people were complaining that PvP only players are not getting anything with the expansion. Now you know guys, now you know.
Having a thief and guardian teleport on me only to be knocked down was the best i felt in a long time while playing my ranger.
They work really well on Conquest in my experience, but i am not very optimistic about their usage in the new mode. Spike is pretty strong even without any traits to buff it, flame is up almost all the time and burning is kinda strong right now so i like it, poison and frost are too situational to my liking but i think i might switch fire with poison if they tone down burning damage.
Once upon a time expansions used to cost 40 dollars (Eye Of the North) and came with 2 character slots.
Eye of the North came with 0 additional character slots. Maybe you are thinking about the campaigns?

GW2 does not exist anymore. So yeah it really does not cost anything. HoT on the other hand is 50$ and it comes with the core game as a gift.
So what you’re saying is…
1. Arena Net has deemed all Guild War 2 Purchases Prior to January 23, 2015 is worth kittens because guild wars 2 is now “free” and we can all claim refunds for $24.99 because the expansion pack is only worth $25; but due to the powers of “Marketing schemes” the core price of the game is included with the price of the expansion hence the “Standard Package”
2. Since Guild Wars 2 no longer exists we have all been scammed for the past 3 years therefore can file a claim with the FCC for misdemeanor fraud.
because this is all i’m understanding right now.
ANet deemed that no new player should face the barrier of buying previous expansions(as is the case with every MMO ever, but i know that for many people GW2 is their first MMO and they are not familiar with this concept) so they decided to give the core game for as a gift for the good of the game.
1. Pay an added fee for the privilege to use content I pay for in HoT
2. Delete my account and lose the time I spent making my level 80s for a refund
3. Wait till G2A sale for HoT
4. Abandon GW2
1. Yes. Gather enough gold and buy the gems. It was your decision to fill your slots with characters even though you knew a new profession is coming.
2. I suppose you meant that you can refund the core game and get the expansion, in which case you do not lose any progress with the refund option.
3. Yes. This is pre-purchase after all. You are going to lose only the demo events if you do not pre-purchase.
4. Yes
Still a bad deal. I got the game after January 23rd, made 3 level 80s and they want me to delete one of my other alts so I can play a reverent? No thanks. terrible business.
Even a white knight should admit the time I spent to make those toons had value.
See everyone that said 50$ is too much ignored the 3 years they played the game, but now that playing the game suddenly gives value it is brought up as an argument against ANet.
Hilarious that.
