The Ferocity/might one is way better than the Ghost Pepper Popper because the effect isn’t just during the day, and it gives 100 ferocity. That could work on a lot of builds.
The Condi duration/life steal food could also be useful on Rabid gear.
The health/toughness one is definitely a good one, Toughness is in most situations way better than Vitality(mango pie)
A New pet family…Camels!
Camels, Llamas, Alpacas, and Vicunas.
(yes, Llamas are related to Camels)
I’ll be honest here, and will examine some rangers a little…..
Durzlla – No opinion. Pocast is good though
Jcbroe – Takes the middle ground way too often on the forums instead of forming an actual opinion. Podcast is good though.
No One – One of the few Rangers that I can take seriously because he doesn’t make overly dramatic posts about how broken the class is, nor does he make a million posts about how the Meta must be followed because everything else is so obviously bad that you suck for not doing exactly what they tell you the meta is.
Too many Rangers to list here – Opposite of No One.
GuanglaiKangyi – taught you about frost/spotter and Brazil popularized the build……Influential? definitely, but only because so many players are unskilled for a long time. They couldn’t figure out basic combos on their own until they watched someone else do it, and still can’t figure out many basic combos beyond frost/spotter.
Chopps – He could argue with you about anything and make it a decent argument. I never had a back and forth with him, but many of his posts were a great read.
MighteousRex – Self described greatest player in the game. Do I need to say anymore? He’s the greatest player in the game! Why aren’t you worshipping the ground he walks on?
RoyalPredator – Gotta give this guy credit for all his billions of borderline crazy ideas for fixing/improving the Ranger Class.
Chrispy – Has an opinion that always opposes the Meta following masses, and is way too confrontational. Can never tell if serious, or sarcasm. Seriously, who would ever consider this guy to be an influence on anyone? Stay away from this guy!
so, who has the most influence?….I don’t know..Prysin? Orpheal? Warriorj? AEFA?….hmmm. I’d say… No One
ah yes, No One . They have influence! The best thing about No One is that anyone can be No One at any time and make an impact on how people view and play the class.

Period, end of story, I dare you to come up with a way to deal more dps and be more useful to the group.
Bringing a warhorn and using an rotation that doesn’t artificially inflate your DPS for the first 8 seconds of a fight.
You didn’t answer my question. Instead you whine and moan that I am artificially inflating my dps, and give me a link to a thread with a grand total of four replies from a bunch of nobodies on a self described hardcore website, who I honestly don’t give two kittens about. Must mean I am obviously a far better player than you are if you can’t even grasp the simple concept of dealing as much damage as possible, nor do you understand how to create the conditions necessary to deal as much dps as possible, which the Warhorn does not allow in any situation. Also, dealing sustained dps over 30 seconds to a nonmoving immortal golem doesn’t prove anything since there aren’t that any situations in the game where that happens. Try again.
I am answering the 2nd half of your question which you obviously didn’t catch. I’ll give you a hint, DPS isn’t all that matters in this game. Support and CC are just as important.
Also, a longbow swap rotation doesn’t increase your DPS in the middle of a fight which is why I called it an artificial DPS inflation. Axe offhand will actually increase your DPS in swap rotation so there is no issue with that offhand other than the possibility of wasting an interrupt.
Edit: To be clear, I was mainly criticizing your lack of warhorn since you can clearly still be more useful to your group than running Longbow + Sword/Axe. Being useful to the group takes priority in this game and running /axe instead of /WH has a high opportunity cost in terms of utility and interupt/CC if you’re ignoring defiant. Path of Scar’s main weakness is that it’s also a CC, which is negligible in uncoordinated groups and bad in coordinated groups. Randomly CC-ing a boss when he has 0 stacks is a bad habit that everyone should avoid. This is why I’m not a fan of OH axe. See this for more detail
Just fyi, the meta builds for some classes are NOT the max personal dps set up.
Tl;dr: S/WH + LB good, S/Wh + S/Axe good, S/Axe + LB Bad.
You can use your pets to provide the same swiftness and fury as the Warhorn (the 1 whole might isn’t that important), and do it better. Go on and complain that pets die too often and easy. It just means that you aren’t as good as you might think you are when it comes to pet management.
Sword/Axe + Longbow + proper pets and pet management = better damage/support and cc than sword/warhorn + whatever.
Actually, proper pets for the right situation and good pet management in general trumps just about everything in the Ranger class, except for damage.
Its a female. Everyone knows that females have to have sex appeal (read : a certain level of body selling) no matter what they are doing. Nurse? sex. Teacher? sex. Hyper deadly assassin that will do anything (and I mean anything) to kill their target? sex. Everything that involves the female has to involve sex appeal in some way, or it doesn’t sell. economics(/biology/psychology) 101!!!
(this post sounds like sarcasm, but its actually not. Its just how the world works)

What I have seen with this update :::
- 1/4th of a new map (its one area, and more areas are likely to open in two weeks. It doesn’t make sense to give us the whole map if the story doesn’t allow for it yet). The game also said something about underground areas next, it wouldn’t exactly be a desert every time…..
- New Rewards.
*New Stat Type (Toughness, Healing Power, Vitality I think. Ain’t going to do anything about the rabid zerker mentality, but its always interesting to try out different gear stats) - This section of the map has what could be considered a new mechanic for getting better rewards the more you help out. You only get 20 minutes to do it before the area changes entirely. The more you help, the better rewards you get, related to the new stat type and a bunch of new food recipes.
- 3 hours of new story content across half a dozen or so instances (I was blazing through that stuff too, probably missed some important stuff, and almost missed some very important optional dialogue about one of the bad guys.)
- More achievements open up after completing the story for every instance.
- Map achievements. Lots of them, as well as a new jumping puzzle and diving location.
- A Few new and updated enemies. In one of the story instances you see several more new enemies that are for future releases.
- (Almost) entirely bug free! (a huge plus for me since many earlier living story releases were riddles with a million bugs and almost made me stop playing)
Overall, I’d say that if you hit it really hard and try to finish everything, it will take 10 hours. If you try to get all the new items and stuff, it could take a few days. For the fact that Anet is still pumping out this stuff every two weeks (they haven’t said otherwise yet), that is quite a bit of content to do, and there is content for the casual players, the more hardcore players, and even the achievement hoarders. (Sorry omega organized Guilds who like to do 150 man events. I didn’t see any of that!) Unless you are part of an omega organized guild, there should be plenty for you to do! (also this is living story, so I left out the part where WvW and PvP gets NOTHING!!!!)
This time last year, I freaking hated the living story, but there is absolutely nothing for me to complain about this. My approval rating for Anet just went up 10 points.
Those coins are in a lot of maps
Yeah, I’m going to keep using Longbow as one of my weapons, the other being sword/axe. And no, I don’t use bears, I use Stalker/Red Moa for pets. I also stay at close range so I can give frost/spotter and receive boons.
If you have any idea how to maximize Ranger damage, then you should know that Barrage then weapon switch to sword/axe + Path of Scars + sword Auto = best Ranger DPS (also, a cat/bird/dog/drake depending on the situation, if you don’t think your pets are utterly useless).
Period, end of story, I dare you to come up with a way to deal more dps and be more useful to the group. Obviously the OP either doesn’t know a single thing about rangers or is unwilling to admit that the longbow is part of the equation.
I’ll just say this.
When I’m playing videogames, I like music that sounds like it fits in a videogame.
I should think the truth would be obvious by now.
Before Councillor Ellen Kiel underwent a sex change (ostensibly a lifestyle choice, but more likely a means of covering “her” trail), she was a man named Elim Kiel. Does that name seem suspicious? It should.
“Elim Kiel” is an anagram for “Like Lime.”
Keep up, folks.
Mr. Kiel took his appellation as a nod to his penchant for limes. Of course we all know that limes originate in Persia, and thus lead us to the Persian Empire. Specifically, the Achaemenid Empire of 550-330 BC. Founded by Cyrus the Great, the Empire’s capital was established in Pasargadae, near modern Shiraz, Iran.
You know where this is going.
In Pasargadae was the mighty fortress, Toll-e Takht, a seat of Cyrus’s power. You might even call it a…. praiseworthy castle?
Eeeeh?
Eeeeeeeeh?Do I have to spell it ALL out? “Praiseworthy castle” is a rough translation of…
SHIRO TAGACHI!!!!!
He’s back, he’s worked his way onto the council, and he’s using his power to sabotage the Zephyrites in order to prevent us from accessing Cantha! Meanwhile, he’s building a private super-ship to take him across to wreak his vengeance!!!! IT’S SO CLEAR!
We’re going to need a strong, savvy leader to organize the transport of the millions of heroes of Tyria to end the Embargo in Cantha and save the world! We need Evon Gnashblade in LS2!
You just won the internet, my dear sir!
All that, and no Half-life 3 confirmed? My good man, you’ve only reached level 2 of the internet. You need to get bigger with your words, have more crazy ideas, create more intricate theories than the inner workings of the 75,000 page U.S tax code. Then, maybe then, will you win the internet.
(also, any theory that has Evon coming out on top is alright by me! Its just not internet winning worthy!)
Dang, take a deep breath ‘buddyboyo’.
1). Yeah you know what, you’re right. You are twisting the truth, because there is obviously no such thing as omission of the truth or not telling the whole truth. There is truth in your words, just not all of it.
2). Cargo – Goods carried on a ship, aircraft, or motor vehicle.
That doesn’t signify a singular location. Even a (cargo)hold is just a place where cargo is held. It doesn’t mean there’s only one location.
Also, Multiple ships, multiple holds. Even the small ships will have areas for cargo and supplies in case a storm separates them from the rest of the fleet. They can’t have all their food and supplies on one big ship in one big area.
Another important factor is the design of the ships. The design of some of the ships wont allow for one singular cargo location even on the larger ships, (and even real world ships and planes separate multiple holds holding cargo.)
That VERY important difference you are trying to make doesn’t really seem that important.
3). You’re right. He said that his business was in tatters….once.
1). Its kind of hilarious reading your defense. I never said you were twisting facts, but perhaps you were unaware of what you posted several days ago?
2). Also, whether its an airship or watership, cargo is generally inside the ship, not hanging around on the outside, especially on a long trip like the Zephyrites were on. If the explosions didn’t come from the cargo, then that means that there were easily visible bombs laying around. When we say Cargo, we are inferring that the explosion came from the inside, and were hidden. You questioning whether or not it was the cargo means you were also questioning whether or not the explosion came from the inside, and if you weren’t, you are stating that the Zephyrites are pretty dumb people and just let the mysterious, clearly visible bombs sit where they were.
3). Evon wasn’t doing nothing. He was helping! I made a lot of gold from Lion’s Arch being attacked! If he hadn’t kept the Trading post up and operating during that crisis, then the economy of Tyria would have crumbled, not just Lion’s Arch. That’s a lot on your plate besides one little city.
You spoke about management during a crisis, and Evon was able to keep management of his company going, even during that crisis, even after being forcibly deputized by Kiel who doesn’t know a kitten thing about economics to know that Evon was helping. If Evon didn’t, then who knows what could have happened? There would be no money to buy any weapons, armors, consumables, or anything, and we all would have been horribly ill-equipped to take the city back! Scarlet could still be alive, and who knows what other evil plans she had! Cash and industrial power is what determines the outcome of a war. Tactics is third on the list. Economic incentive is fourth (personal or national). Pure hearted heroics and willpower is ninth and tenth, and don’t make much of a difference.
You don’t need to be in there fighting Scarlet’s armies or tending to wounded refugees to make a difference. Just keeping his company operating probably made the biggest impact (as far as economics go) in taking Lion’s Arch back! The best thing he could have done before the crisis was just keep his company managed as usual to prevent fear of an impending attack on the city, and crashing the economy as a result, which would affect a lot more people than just those ‘ex-pirates’ of Lion’s Arch (that deserve to die for thinking that their city was immune to attacks…..after being attacked three times in a year before that!)
pretty much /thread right there
How’s it the end of the thread? All the ‘lore master’ did was regurgitate stuff that Kiel supporters have been saying for months now. Stuff that isn’t exactly painting the truth either.
I want to see evidence that Evon was not warning Lion’s Arch for months on end of another attack, even before Kiel got her so called evidence.
I also want to see supporting evidence that the explosions in the trailer weren’t from the inside. I doubt that Anet got so excited for that trailer that they forgot to add rocket trails behind the invisible missiles just so we would spend a week speculating in the wrong direction.
Actually in that first post of mine I was only spouting facts. At least, facts as to how ArenaNet presented them to us – mostly through Kiel’s words, or Magnus/Marjory/Kasmeer in some cases.
The fun fact about it all is that I am neither a Kiel nor Evon supporter, though in all honesty I was hoping Evon would win because I thought he’d be more interesting a captain because he’s clearly not a goodie-goodie.
I never said Evon wasn’t warning LA, so I’m not sure why you bother bringing that up. He was, but in the standard raving lunatic slash doomsayer fashion (which gets folks no where). He could have easily used his company’s excess fortunes to buff of Lion’s Arch even without being on the council – but did he? Nope.
And I have been saying that the explosions were on the inside (just not in this thread) – it’s pretty obvious they were from the inside. The second post was purely in jest, making fun of (or with depending on how serious the OP was) the OP in the ridiculousness fashion.
How is it that in your first post you were only spouting facts (and in that first post you were questioning whether or not the explosions came from the inside), but three paragraphs later you’ve been saying the explosions were on the inside*. So, which of those two statements is fact? It can’t be both.
And we all know that Evon is unimaginably rich, but, doesn’t the Captain’s Council have unimaginably rich people of their own that didn’t do anything before the city was attacked, and also didn’t really do all that much while we were taking the city back? Why should Evon have spent the resources to protect a city that doesn’t want to protect itself? Again, I say that Lion’s Arch had exactly what was coming to them in the worst possible way!
Its a nice piece of fan work for being done in one night, but I don’t like the vocals with the music. It already has a lot going on in it, and adding the vocals makes it way too crowded for me to enjoy it. The Vocals don’t match the musical rhythm, and seem to take more away than add to.
This remixed hologram dance beat sounds much better because the vocals actually match the music (for the most part) :::
http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS546LM91UA
This remixed version of Fear Not This Night sounds alright too, though the echo’s in some parts sound weird ::: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=8fYJ9IdyF_0
Another GW2 piece she did, matching vocals to Lion’s Arch Lament, doesn’t work because the vocals don’t entirely match the music its set to ::: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=qS546LM91UA
It sounds like two songs are playing at the same time, attempting to drown out each other instead of playing in harmony.
But, if that’s what she could do in one day (no idea how long she spent on the others), then I’d be really interested to see what she could do if she actually spent some time with any of these pieces instead of pumping out one after another after another.
pretty much /thread right there
How’s it the end of the thread? All the ‘lore master’ did was regurgitate stuff that Kiel supporters have been saying for months now. Stuff that isn’t exactly painting the truth either.
Neither was Penguin, but that’s beside the point.
I want to see evidence that Evon was not warning Lion’s Arch for months on end of another attack, even before Kiel got her so called evidence.
I want to see evidence he actually did anything more proactive than playing doomspeaker and nursing resentment. Until then, he’s as useless as Kiel was in preventing the tragedy.
I also want to see supporting evidence that the explosions in the trailer weren’t from the inside. I doubt that Anet got so excited for that trailer that they forgot to add rocket trails behind the invisible missiles just so we would spend a week speculating in the wrong direction.
And if they were from the inside, this makes it Kiel’s fault . . . how? Or Evon’s fault for that matter.
I blame Scarlet. Why? Easy. Because she’s dead and can’t defend herself. Nyeh.
1. Key word from my post being ‘either’. I’m pretty sure that means I already acknowledged that Penguin wasn’t painting the truth any better.
2. Who ever said the destruction of Lion’s Arch was a tragedy? A city of ‘ex’ pirates getting wiped out? Scarlet did us a favor!
3. I don’t care if it was Evon’s, Kiel’s, Canach’s, or even the Skritt King’s fault. All I’m saying from that is that the explosions either occurred internally, or the trailer didn’t tell us everything because it was put together too quickly.

So, Anet should put aside all their resources to make content for the 1-2% of people that play in giant, hyper organized groups, and ignore the 98-99% of players that don’t? It sounds like this is what you are suggesting.
More like Anet already caters to the average player. 99% of all content is normal mode. It’s only fair that we 1%ers get some love too. So yes, they should devote some resources so that all players in GW2 have content for them.
And why wouldn’t Anet cater to 99% of players compared to 1% of players? It doesn’t make sense to design any amount of content that only 1% of all players will ever enjoy if there is a way for 99% of players to enjoy it as well as the remaining 1% at the same time. The suggestion in my previous post is just one of many ways.
Some people seem to be misunderstanding who these Elite events are made for. This isn’t for the average player, but rather the highly organized groups that thrive on challenges. That’s not to say that we don’t allow pugs to join. In fact, a large portion of each raid is comprised of pugs. TTS is welcoming to anyone who wants to participate in these events. Sure the Megaserver mechanic makes this much harder, but we’ve managed to work with it as best we can.
As for talks about downscaling, I agree that there should be a slight update to this. I think having scaling to a minimum of 100 to 110 players on a 150 max player map is reasonable. Reducing it to 50 doesn’t make sense, since two of the three Wurms require 20 kegs/harpoons each to reach burn phases. Also, you don’t want scaling that low, because then you create Easy Mode.
Speaking on the issue of timers, players forget that the Marionette had timers. That event was good, no doubt about it. But remember that timers are necessary for all events. Without them, you could technically spend hours trying to win one event. That’s not fair to the players doing the event, and other players who want to do the event for themselves.
So, Anet should put aside all their resources to make content for the 1-2% of people that play in giant, hyper organized groups, and ignore the 98-99% of players that don’t? It sounds like this is what you are suggesting.
Anet, instead designing easy and hard content separately, should instead :::
- (1) design a simpler version of whatever boss even they come up with, so the unorganized masses can finish it at their leisure. This version of the boss is what spawns on regular timers.
- (2) Introduce a guild item for you giant, omega organized guilds to summon the harder version of that boss. The much harder version obviously has much greater chances at better loot and items than the normal version does.
Can I get an amen?? I mean really, I understand that the world is inhabited by Elder Dragons, and stuff happens in a chaotic world, but lets recap shall we. First we had Kessex decimated by the Tower of Nightmares, then Lions Arch by Scarlet, and now the Zephyr Sanctum, presumably by a minion or minions of Mordremoth….
Why couldn’t Season 2 launch with us discovering a new zone already destroyed or corrupted by Mordremoth, why must you destroy the most beautiful zones?
How do you know Season 2 won’t start like that?
Furthermore, if you understand that everything’s gone to hell, then you why do you ask such a question?Because they do a terrible job reflecting this. Things happen, but it is almost as if it never happened. Kessex goes to hell, but everyone on the eastern side is like “what? no….everything is sunny!”
Lion’s Arch explodes and other areas are like “naw, everything is great!”
The problems with destroying (nice looking zones) is there is not enough linking it to the rest of the world. It just happens, and the rest of world stays exactly the same, as if the place doesn’t even exist to them.
That’s kinda how the real world is. I highly doubt most Americans know what’s going on in India, and it wouldn’t surprise me if people in South Africa doesn’t care much for Chile’s every day life.
Lion’s Arch is the center of Trade in Tyria though. It getting destroyed would be the equivalent of the World Trade Center getting his by terrorists in 2001. Everyone in the world would hear about it. Not everyone in the world cared, but everyone heard about it at the time.
But everyone did hear about. Just because the NPC’s/main characters don’t talk about it all the time doesn’t mean no one heard about it.
Let’s use your example. The only time I hear about the World Trade Centers is on the anniversary. Otherwise it’s something Americans seems to not want to hear, as silly as anyone might think it is.
Same thing could be said about LA.(P.S. My apologies for offending anyone over bringing this topic up.)
Sorry, I misunderstood your previous post and your words threw me off. Its not that no one knows what’s going on, its just that they don’t care.
90% of the world doesn’t care about America getting attacked (and I apologize for bringing that up if it offended anyone[but its true]), just as 90% of Tyria probably doesn’t care that a city of ‘ex-pirates’ just got wiped from the face of the planet.

Also, While it is true there is an Elder Dragon we have to go see, there are other story threads that need to continue as well that were started in season 1 and before, such as the Aetherblades, and all of Scarlet’s other armies?

Yay?….Dry top. Its dry, and its a top…what’s there to be excited about that?
((I took an enthusiasm vaccine so I wouldn’t catch the bug when all the news was released today!))
my thoughts on the trailer :::
- 1) The Zephyrites got shot down by someone or blown up by secretly planted bombs.
- Lion’s Arch isn’t going to be rebuilt anytime soon as a result. Who do we got left that’s helping them with money and supplies? Kryta and….who else?
- I also want to say that the Zephyrites getting blown up was pretty unexpected even though there was a hint or two about in in current living world release.
- 2) That Devourer boss looks huge, but there are other big devourer champions in other parts of the game. I just hope that this boss is updated to be more difficult than a million Hp punching bag.
- Inquest Golems…., which makes sense, given where we’ll be entering the Maguuma Jungle/Wastes/area from.
- The Sandstorm was awesome looking. In the trailer you see Taimi going for cover inside the golem before it hits, so it might be an environmental effect that has an effect on your character, which would be pretty awesome. It might also be related to the Devourer boss.
- ….and that Tumbleweed at 1:05! That was the most beautifully rendered tumbleweed I ever saw!
- 3) Also, some of those shots looked really desert like, like, really really desert like. This is likely due to the area drying out over the last 250 years (though some of it was pretty dry 250 years ago too…..).
- Its also possible that one of the new areas we get is in the Crystal Desert. The Zephyrite short story does describe it as a desert still.
- The Trailer showed the wreckage of a fallen Zephyrite ship meaning we might get to possibly explore that area. Is it more likely that they fell somewhere on/near the Labyrinthine cliffs (somewhere in the shiverpeaks or crystal desert), or did they make it thousands of miles to the west of Tyria?
- 4) I’m not familiar with the weapon animations for the mace, but people were saying that the animation was new….maybe Anet listened to us in the CDI threads from months and months ago and are adding new weapon skills, weapons, class mechanic skills, etc.?
- If so, Sweet! More horizontal progression for level 80’s!
The way Maguuma worked in many of the areas in GW1 was that the upper areas were dry, and all the valleys and canyons had lots of growth. I’m hoping the maps have a few multi layered areas too, also some actual forests and jungles instead of small collections of trees.
I would really like to know what is more effective at farming gold than a 10 minute run through a dungeon? I would also really like to know why people are defending the gold you get from dungeons, while saying that there are more effective ways, but are refusing to tell what those more effective ways are? Its more likely that someone is lying about these so called ‘more effective ways’ because they don’t want very easily obtainable dungeon loot compared to other sources to be nerfed.
Hey now, calling us vile is kinda mean. Besides, why go through this much effort to create a build designed around countering one class? Tbh, thief counters ranger since we can ignore the pet for the most part and fight the ranger while the pet struggles to catch up, or we can stealth off of it. it’s like making a fire type pokemon team that is good against water types. Regardless, rapid fire, sic em, and after my brief ranger session today, Counter on GS is LOL, Idk why GS rangers dont use this against thieves more often. AOES like traps and torch work well too, no new build needed
B-But, you can make a fire type pokemon team that is good against water types!….right? Also, every class can ignore the pet with no penalty.
Also, also, If your in a full glass cannon build…. Counterattack + Signet of the Hunt followed by any other GS skill. Its very effective against Thieves and has a 80-90% success rate for me when fighting against that profession.
The guy you buy this stuff from is called the “Traps and Tricks” vendor, so here is a few ideas for other items besides just traps….
Instant Teleport Device
Cost – 100 Badges of Honor and 3500 Karma
Use – Double Click to deploy an Instant Teleport Device with the chosen Location. Up to 50 Allies can use the teleport device to instantly teleport to the designated location under your control. (Costs 100 Supply to Deploy)
- Chosen Location would be anywhere currently under your control on the current WvW map.
- This could be used to quickly return to a tower or keep that is under siege, or return to a camp, or anywhere else.
- Is destroyed automatically when 50 allies use it. Otherwise lasts for 60 minutes.
Personal Teleportation Device
Cost – 15 Badges of Honor and 525 Karma
Use – Double Click to Instantly teleport to any location under your control. Cannot be used in Combat. (costs 2 supply to use)
- A single use, personal version.
Teleportation Disruption Device
Cost – 100 Badges of Honor and 3500 Karma
Use – Double Click to deploy a Teleportation Disruption Device, which will interrupt the ability to teleport to the area for 5 minutes. (Costs 100 Supply to Deploy)
- Has a Range of 500 which checks for the closest tower/camp/keep/castle in the area. Then teleportation is disabled for that location.
- Because of the short range, has to be built quite close to the location in order to disable teleportation.
- An enemy should be notified if the location they chose for the transporter is disabled before they use the appropriate items to prevent waste.
- Device can be destroyed quite easily, so it must be defended.
Siege Disruption Device
Cost – 100 Badges of Honor and 3500 Karma
Use – Double Click to deploy a Siege Disruption Device, which will prevent Siege deployment and use of Siege for 5 minutes a the designated location. (Costs 100 supply to Deploy)
- Has a Range of 500 which checks for the closest tower/camp/keep/castle in the area. Then Siege is disabled for that location. If there is no location in range, or, if the location is owned, then it disables siege out to 2500 range.
- Because of the short range, has to be built quite close to the location in order to disable siege.
- Device can be destroyed quite easily, so it must be defended.
Those are some of my ideas….
I like your muddy terrain idea, except for the instant cast. The reason why it can’t be instant cast is because of the AoE immobilize (if you are suggesting to have the skill be anti stealth only, then I’m against it). Anet has been increasing cast times for many of these types of skills to make sure that immobilize isn’t as cheap as it used to be, and rightfully so, since it is a very powerful condition.
I also don’t agree with instant cast because I would consider the AoE reveal debuff just as powerful as an immobilize.
Well, you’re not wrong on Anet’s closed viewpoint. Just look at our ‘Primal Reflexes’ Trait and compare it to similar traits from other professions and try to think of reasons why our trait is so pathetically weak by comparison…
A 1s internal cooldown would be too strong unless it was for gaining might. There are builds that we can run that are almost constantly evading with perma vigour, skills on sword and lightning reflexes. Also GS auto attack.
Whatever the boon would be would have to be short in duration because of exactly how much melee evasion we can attain. Also protection won’t be a thing with evades as we have in on dodge as is and also GS auto attack would be huge. 33% less damage for the first two strikes and 1s evade on the last. To much.
Vigour would be reasonable at a 1s cooldown for 1s. Or 2s with kitten cooldown.
Retaliation for 3s would be alight but with a 8s cooldown would be reasonable.
3stacks of might for 5s with a 15s cooldown again would be reasonable. Or 1stack for 10s with a low cooldown to minimc rune capability and Might of the Protector.
Warrior has a grandmaster trait called Spiked Armor that grants 5 seconds of Retaliation with a 10 second cooldown whenever he is hit with a critical hit. There is no skill required in that trait.
What we’re suggesting takes actual skill and is not automatic, especially on weapon sets like bows and axes, and you’re saying that 3 seconds with an 8 second cooldown is fair when its already weaker than the equivelant Warrior trait.
no….Skill should be rewarded.
I’d like to see Strider’s Defense reworked to incorporate something like this. That trait is just silly right now.
I have been saying this the entire thread…
That trait is 110% useless in its current state.
So? We know that already.
What about the Moa racers that died? There’s a lot of people that miss Meep…
1s internal cooldown is all that’s needed too.
Another idea would be to give protection every time we successfully evade an attack, also with a cooldown. It would reward us for timing our evades/dodges properly, and it would punish us by being a useless trait if we aren’t timing our evades properly.
Ritualist and Paragon is basically already in the game via the Guardian (lorewise) Dervish simply wouldn’t work due to how tied it is to the human gods.
They removed the planned secondary professions mechanic because it was a nightmare to balance (as seen in GW1).
Considering that the game is still a nightmare to balance, yeah……its a good thing that secondary professions never made it into this game.
Recap
Noun
1. a summary of what has been said; a recapitulation.
sounds like the Trailer was a recap to me.
Living breathing world and its lore aside, creating content that has a time limit brings us and the health of the game huge amount benefits.
Take crown pavilion for example. At the start of this content patch, only organised guilds are able to take it on. In no time, pick-up-groups are showing that they are capable too and we see surprising amount of success here. Gradually, we see more and more people participating and organising – which is all looking great at this point. Except we are seeing more botters and afkers dragging the entire team. We have a team of people organising vs a team of “non-helpful” people, and its a struggle downhill. With time-limited content, we experience this rise and fall as with all cycles and we move on.
Now imagine this content is permanent. At this point, devs will have to step in and do something. The time spent on this cleaning up they could have done creating new interesting ideas for us.
All in all, having fresh ideas throughout the seasons dont come without consequences and although imposing time limit isnt the most graceful, it brings us a healthy flow of content. And for this, let us take a moment to say we appreciate!
I’m going to first take a moment to say that I hate public service announcement threads.
Now I’ll say that while some temporary content is good, its also bad for the only content people still notice from past released is gemstore armor/weapons.
It is also bad when the new content released is bugged for the first week or two and Anet has just as much time to fix the bugs as they do to push this non-functioning content out the door for newer (and also bugged) content. While Anet has been getting much, much better about releasing content without a thousand bugs, it still happens and I would rather that they take their time on worthwhile, bug free content whether its temporary or permanent, and not bind themselves to a two week schedule again.
((Seriously, the last time I played a 100% bug free game/dlc when it was released was a console game in 2008. Take your kitten time instead of looking at dollar signs.))
Lol i want to know how much gold i wouldve had, had I not used a single waypoint
Oh no, what will I do without my 2 silver!?
(Is it 2 silver actually? I’ve never payed attention because of how insignificant it is)
Candy Crush turns are only a dollar and yet the app has made a billion, don’t let that mentality of “It’s just 2 silver” getchya, that adds up, not that Im saying I dont mindlessly waypoint
Though, some people do apparently mindlessly waypoint when they claimed to have saved 50 gold over a month back when waypoints were a whole 20 copper cheaper.
I am happy to join with you today in what will go down in history as the greatest demonstration for equality in the history of our world.
Five score weeks ago, a great Tyrian, in whose symbolic shadow we stand today, created the CDI Initiative. This momentous decree came as a great beacon light of hope to millions of Rangers who had been seared in the flames of withering injustice. It came as a joyous daybreak to end the long night of their captivity.
But one hundred days later, the Ranger still is not free. One hundred days later, the life of the Ranger is still sadly crippled by the manacles of segregation and the chains of discrimination. One hundred days later, the Ranger lives on a lonely island of poverty in the midst of a vast ocean of material prosperity. One hundred days later, the Ranger is still languished in the corners of Tyrian society and finds himself an exile in his own land. And so we’ve come here today to dramatize a shameful condition.
…..
There are those who are asking the devotees of civil rights, “When will you be satisfied?” We can never be satisfied as long as the Ranger is the victim of the unspeakable horrors of Thief brutality. We can never be satisfied as long as our bodies, heavy with the fatigue of travel, cannot gain access to decent Dungeon Groups. We cannot be satisfied as long as the Ranger’s basic mobility is from a smaller grotto to a larger one. We can never be satisfied as long as our children are stripped of their self-hood and robbed of their dignity by signs stating: “For Warriors Only.” We cannot be satisfied as long as a Ranger in Kryta cannot stand and a Ranger in Lion’s Arch believes he has nothing for which to stand. No, no, we are not satisfied, and we will not be satisfied until “justice rolls down like waters, and righteousness like a mighty stream.”
…..
I have a dream that one day this world will rise up and live out the true meaning of its creed: “We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal.”
I have a dream that one day on the red hills of Ascalon, the sons of former Rangers and the sons of former Warriors will be able to sit down together at the table of brotherhood.
I have a dream that one day even the country of Kryta, a state sweltering with the heat of injustice, sweltering with the heat of oppression, will be transformed into an oasis of freedom and justice.
I have a dream that my four little children will one day live in a nation where they will not be judged by their Character Class, but by the content of their character.
I have a dream today!
I have a dream that one day, down in Rata Sum, with its vicious elitist, with its council having their lips dripping with the words of “interposition” and “nullification” — one day right there in Rata Sum little Rangers and Necromancers will be able to join hands with little Warriors and Guardians as sisters and brothers.
….I’m going to quit while I’m ahead, but my belief in this comparison is obvious…

Google Authenticator. Use it.
You friend didn’t get his GW2 account hacked. It was his e-mail account.
ArenaNet are not responsible for that. Hell, they even give us a way to protect us by linking an authenticator.
Actually, his email account might not have been hacked or touched in any way.
Hackers can very easily get a list of passwords/emails/IP address from other game sites that were compromised, even very large game companies that were recently hacked (including EA and Steam). If that password is in anyway similar to the password used for Guild wars 2, then its a matter of changing a password here or there and entering email addresses. Anet actually made a long blog post about that months ago indirectly admitting that a compromised email account might not be the cause despite claiming that a vast majority of hacked accounts was due to a hacked email account.
This raised serious questions about what was actually going on, and it raises further questions about whether their Email/IP address authentication is actually encrypted well enough to do its job properly. Some message boards have suggested that it is as simple as changing bits around from a default authentication email link to include the proper IP address and email address, completely going around any security that this may have offered.
So, yeah. If you don’t have Google Authenticator, you need to get it since all of Anet’s other levels of security concerning your account are quite pathetic.
Also, this thread will probably be closed due to the subject matter….
Yeah, I think Cleansing Ire and Shadow’s Embrace have similar problems, as they offer very strong condition removal for such little investment, which is also not bound by any type of skill, but rather has a very wide and regular application.
Removing conditions via traits isn’t the problem when it requires a particular skill type, like how Mender’s Purity only works on your heal skill, so at best your getting 4 conditions removed every 10 seconds, with a three 3 cast time.
Or when Pure of Voice removes conditions of shouts.
But when it’s bound to your core mechanic, or skill functions that you can spam, then your effectively giving them near overwhelmingly strong condition removal for just one trait with no drawback whatsoever.Esp since these two professions are so powerful to begin with, you just giving them strong condition immunity as well, it’s beyond the pale.
Compare those traits that aren’t bound to any one skill type to a trait that is bound to something like dodges, like for example, Evasive Purity. This Ranger trait only cures two conditions every 10 seconds, and is a Master trait. But it requires something you don’t want to spam over and over (dodging), and it only cures certain conditions (Blind and Poison). Thieves have their ‘Fleet of Foot’ trait, and Elementalists have ‘Stop, Drop, and Roll’, all of which are the same but remove different conditions.
When compared to other traits that remove conditions on dodge, they are alright, but when compared to other forms of condition removal, these are all pathetically weak for master traits.
So, because Melandru Runes are too Powerful on the Warrior, the Runes should be nerfed for everyone, making everyone else weaker? Stop blaming mechanics that affect everyone for you being too powerful.
I could also care less about just mobility. The Warrior’s Superior condition removal with certain builds is what’s too powerful.
The problem with the Warrior starts with Cleansing Ire, and gets compounded by Burst Mastery and the Discipline trait line, and ends with Anet saying that there is no problem with Warrior and that they are working as intended, despite Anet also saying that conditions should be a weakness of theirs, then retracting that statement by saying “only when their defenses run out”.
Lets look at what is wrong with the Warrior and conditions ::
- Cleansing Ire can remove up to 3 conditions.
- Burst Mastery allows you to use burst skills for 33% less cost.
- Getting Burst Mastery also means a full investment in Discipline, which means that Burst skills are on a 30% faster cool down (7 seconds).
Not even including the other two points on that short list which make Cleansing Ire even more powerful than it is, what other profession can remove 3 conditions every ten seconds for the cost of a master trait (and helps them get to that by letting them use their class mechanic more often by granting bonus adrenaline when hit)?
I am saying the foods and oils should not be in WvW and if Anet is serious about balance they should remove them from there. That is what puts Melandru/DoggedMarch over the top. It’s what puts a ton of other builds on other professions over the top as well. Without food, that setup is pretty balanced and the runes don’t have to be touched. Nerfing every other warrior build that doesn’t use these runes because of food making it OP is not a good idea either. As for Strength runes, they make any power build OP in PvP and they should toned down.
As for Cleansing Ire, you can clear up to six condis in a 10 second period. I can burst and blast (clearing 3 condis with only 2 adrenaline spent) with long bow, swap (gain adrelanine) do a couple of attacks and burst again with the second set in 10 seconds. I probably can’t maintain that rate consistantly but even if just once or twice in a fight is way too strong. I am all for changing that.
If Anet was serious about small scale balance in WvW, they would have never introduced Applied Strength/Fortitude. I think that’s why foods still exist in WvW, and they probably aren’t going way anytime soon, but if they are going to continue to exist in WvW, Anet needs to do a balance pass on all foods, and get rid of the +/- 40% duration stuff unless its for an individual condition(as opposed to all conditions), but that would require adding a lot of new foods, and reworking a lot of stuff, and I personally don’t believe that Anet is willing to do that (so just expect a future food nerf in general instead of balance)
On the Melandru/Dogged March combo, an added total duration of -58% is still kind of high (unless it is multiplicative, in which case -50% is still high), but manageable since the warrior is sacrificing a little of everything else for that reduction. But Anet said that Warriors shouldn’t have all that movement. When they fight, they should be fighting, not disengaging like a thief, so I guess we’ll see where this goes in the next balance patch.
And yeah, the last paragraph you typed, that’s kind of my point. With minimal investment, Cleansing Ire can cleanse faster than any other master trait in the game, even many grandmaster traits. With more investment (what you described) it becomes way, way, way too powerful.
My Opinion on the Live stream on Friday :::
LOL…..WHAT?….. Here are all the problems I had with the Stream :::
- Our Long Range Single Target Damage can be made to work, but, the pet is nearly useless at dealing damage half the time because of how agro and pet AI works in this game. Because of game mechanics, and without the added benefit of extra pet damage at longer ranges, our Long Range Single Target DPS is actually weaker than every other profession except for maybe Guardians and Necromancers, and that is with maximum investment.
- Our Sustainability through melee evasion and dodging is a strength that Anet should never have even thought about mentioning. We have superior evasion….on one whole build with one specific weapon combination. This alleged ‘strength’ isn’t even a strength on about half of our weapon combinations.
- Hitting 3 whole targets in melee (4 if you count the pet, 6 if you count the Drake pets) is not Sustained Melee AoE. And again, that is a strength dependent on 2 of many weapon sets, and 1 pet family, meaning its not realistic to call it a strength at all. They also said that Warriors have good sustained Melee AoE (and Warriors are better at it, though I wouldn’t call warriors hitting 3 targets good AoE either).
- Weaknesses. Reading the list on Dulfy (who does a good job of writing down everything from these streams), the Ranger has Seven Weaknesses, which is more than any other profession listed. To be fair, Just like the Strengths, some of the weaknesses are dependent on certain builds, which means they shouldn’t be listed as weaknesses at all. And to be fair again, the lack of boon rip is a weakness…., for like 5 other professions as well.
- In the Stream itself, Anet said that the pet is supposed to be both a Strength and a Weakness, but never went into any detail for how the pet can be a strength. If our total DPS potential was higher than average because of the pet, then it could be considered a strength, but our DPS potential is actually quite low, even compared to Warriors (a point I will get to in a second). The Extra Utility the pet provided is no different than the utility that other class mechanics provide and cannot be considered a strength.
- Player Feedback is pretty close to the official design…..only for the Long Range damage part. No 2 players posted the same exact set of weaknesses or strengths with that one exception. This means that player feedback was not at all the same as the official design.
Finally, I want to say something about a question I asked for the stream. I asked this ::
Is there any relation between a profession’s base health/armor weight and their DPS potential?
They answered yes to the question, and described a few of the professions and how that fits. The problem is that this means that Warriors should have the lowest DPS potential out of any other profession because of their high armor/health. That is not at all true, since Warriors deal quite a bit of damage compared to professions that should obviously deal more damage, such as Rangers.
See? Even I, one of Anet’s Godly Awesome White Knights, can disagree from time to time too!(sarcasm)
(edited by Moderator)
The fact that you, (someone who is defending Warriors), typed the word OP at all in your previous posts kind of says otherwise.
I’m saying the problem is not the warrior, it’s the runes and foods that fill in any weaknesses we might have or make our strengths OP. If it wasn’t for runes of strength our DPS wouldn’t so high in PvP. If it wasn;t for melandru and -condi food our mobility would not be over the top in WvW cause we would be susceptible to movement impairment.
I also hear a lot of “my profession doesn;t have a place in every game mode, please nerf warriors until they don;t have a place either. The way I won’t feel so left out.” I’ve read a lot of the suggested nerfs all that would do is make warriors what the use to be, free kills.
I do agree that there are things that need to be changed. Like the amount of mobility on the GS, Cleansing Ire and Burst Mastery combo. The braindead healing signet which is not really OP in terms of healing, the fact that it is fully passive makes it really lame to play and play against.

I hated the RNG. I hated the endless festivals. I hated the loot nerfs midway through some of the releases without explanation, but at least the music was nice.
I used to defend warriors saying they’re not OP and telling ppl who said that to learn to dodge.
Well, that’s fine if u are extremely good at dodging, but even Vassangel gets hit every once and awhile.
Anyways, anyone who says warriors are completely not OP probably only plays a warrior.
Before u defend the class, hop on ranger and 1v1 a top tier warrior and see how u do. Since the f1 skills are so telegraphed anyways, you shouldn’t have a problem right?
I see rangers killing warriors in PvP all the time. I’ve lost to a few myself but I do agree that Rangers need help but nerfing Warriors is not going to help Rangers.
The fact that you, (someone who is defending Warriors), typed the word OP at all in your previous posts kind of says otherwise.
Last question for me :::
Is there any relation between a profession’s base health/armor weight and their DPS potential?
If there isn’t and every profession has the same dps potential…. I just think it would be rather strange for an 18000 health, heavy armor Warrior to have the same dps potential as a 10000 health, light armor Elementalist, because this means that the Warrior will almost always win, solely because they have higher armor/health. And in a balance philosophy like this, skill doesn’t really matter at this point, just whoever has higher base armor and base health.
Great responses, all. Really impressed with the turnout. Posts like the ones from Holland, SuinegTsol, and pierwola (to name a few) are exactly the type of high-level role discussion we are looking for.
As a note, I want to be very clear that we’re looking for comments from all game modes, PvE, PvP, and WvW included. Don’t be shy.
I’ll be going through the thread quite a bit today, distilling your thoughts into something a bit more digestible that we can talk about on stream.
Thanks!
Well then, I’m not going to be shy! I made a post earlier about Rangers, but here is a question that I would really like for someone to answer on the stream :::
What Profession would you say is the closest to your vision in terms of balance, and when are you going to adjust the other seven professions to the same level?
((Speaking of Rangers……
Ranger does not mean Range. The Definition of Ranger is – A person or thing that wanders or ranges over a particular area or domain. That’s what park rangers do. That’s what the original Rangers in the military sense did, and that’s what the original Fantasy Rangers did, going all the way back to Tolkien. Just because range is in the word Ranger does not mean that they should be best with ranged weapons.
…I just wanted to clear that up since many posts concerning the Ranger keep saying that we should be best at Range. Every profession should have an effective ranged weapon that isn’t totally overshadowed by the Ranger Longbow, and every profession should have an effective melee weapon as well that isn’t overshadowed by any one profession’s melee weapon. Every class should have effective builds for both.))
Generally speaking….
Rangers are good at Single Target DPS, but suck at Single Target Conditions/Control.
Rangers are good at AoE Conditions/Control, but suck at AoE DPS.
Rangers are good at AoE Condition removal/Boon application, but suck at doing these things to themselves.
There are exceptions to the rule(such as Shortbow for single target conditions, Drake for AoE DPS, Grandmaster traits for self condition removal, and Rampage as One for Self boons), but investing in what we are weak at makes us weaker at what we are strong at. This Dynamic is something I like, but it means that depending on the situation we have 3 or 4 different colors of kryptonite instead of just one like other professions. (compare to a Warrior who can be good at 5 out of 6 of those things at the same time with the same trait/gear investment.)
Edit – (adding some stuff about the pet)
Our Kryptonite should be tied to our pets, in that we lose Survival and DPS when both die, and that while they are alive, it is considerably more difficult for opponents to kill us if they continue to ignore the pet, which is literally half of our profession.
The problem is that players can ignore the pet, and go straight to attacking the Ranger in a fight, because it is always easier to attack the Ranger first instead of the pet, no matter the situation. Any advantage there could have been by having a pet is immediately lost because the game world can largely ignore them. That is our current kryptonite and that needs to change. (My suggestion : by default or a trait, We take less damage if our pet is alive, and lose that bonus when the pet dies. This would make it a priority for players to kill the pet first in a 1v1 fight, and actually make Pets and Ranger more useful and threatening overall. It still doesn’t solve the problem with AoE damage everywhere, but it is a start in smaller scale fights)
