Actually, I find that if you have a group, champions are a great source of steady gear. It takes about 2 minutes to kill a champ and they always drop a piece of gear. Most of the time it’s blue, but you’re always rolling for a better piece of gear, and with MF you could be getting it on a few of them. Many champions have their own event anyway so you get a healthy dose of experiencce/karma/silver.

The thing is champion loot from grouping is not AMAZING so nobody does that often. If 5 people get together, somebody’s going to suggest a dungeon and then they’re off to go do that.

Edit: I haven’t come across a single champion since that loot patch that hasn’t dropped at least a blue. I don’t know what the hell people are talking about, maybe you didn’t tag them?

I must have tagged them, I killed them.

While I applaud the idea that Champions and Vets ought to be worth killing, I have 2 other things to say. 1) Since the purported up to drop rates, I get something from Champs and Vets 95% of the time, versus maybe 20% before. and 2) We ask for better drops, but how many people actually get drops they are going to equip? I can count the times on 1 hand, and all but one of those were greens at low levels.

My experience has been the other way:

Champion No drop
Veteran No drop
Veteran 79 Blue Axe
Champion No drop
Veteran No drop
Veteran Tiny Fang
Veteran No drop
Veteran No drop
Veteran No drop
Veteran No drop
Veteran Jagged scrap of metal

Thus I don’t bother with killing them. I accept that a-net do not care to operate a game where my efforts are rewarded as would be the case in other games.

Oh look another compliant thread by lothefallen and one’s again he seems to be in the minority in his way of thinking because fact is he just looks for things to hate, even if what he says is true on some microscopic level he will blow it out of proportion just to make this game look like it sucks.

your not good with haveing options are you OP. according to you the game needs to Force us into role’s it need’s to force us into groups, it needs to force us to play one of said role’s at a time. it needs to force us in a direction.

did you ever stop and think…. maby thats not what GW2 is about.

and as for needing to group… no… no I don’t need to but it make’s my life easyer me and my guild often do world activities together and we also suply each other with food, tools like sharpining stones, and we are extramly good at useing combow fields together.

as such we all have Build that are built for grouping and playing off each other, oh an even though i do participate in combat I’m still THE FREAKING HEALER!

Are MMO Gamers Too Heavily Rewarded?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cina Reas.6938

You can read articles in psychology journals about the what makes games addicting. Systematic rewards and guaranteed progress are two of the factors.

MMO games offer both of those, and a large base of players that are drawn to MMOs expect them. It’s the reason people keep playing games like this every day after they’ve lost their job — it makes them feel like they’re working toward something, and gives a sense of accomplishment.

It’s also the reason MMOs have grinding. It’s the only way to create a goal that anyone can accomplish given a long enough period of time.

Such a shame that the RNG removes the rewards for many and makes progress difficult ( not enjoyable ).

The Guild Wars interface is invisible

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cina Reas.6938

It’s a game, it’s supposed to be visually appealing and the UI is supposed to follow the ingame art style.

Most people don’t want to look at monochrome progress bars, nor they feel their performance is in any way impaired by not having them. This is not a min-maxing game like WoW where the whole world will crash if you miss your skill cooldown by half a second, nor an airplane kittenpit with thousands of variables that need to be displayed at every moment.

Blaming the interface for your poor gameplay isn’t the right way to go. With this small and limited amount of skills you have equipped at once, you can get a pretty good idea when your cooldowns are done without even having to look at the skill bar. So, play less with your eyes and more with your brain. It’s what separates people who get overwhelmed at every single opportunity and those who keep perspective.

If you had to actively think about every single muscle movement while you were doing a basic thing like walking, you’d fail miserably at it as well.

This is not about personal skill or blaming death count on the interface. The OP is talking about improving what we have.

‘poorly designed’ is not even close to a ‘scientifically established fact’ . How about we keep the discussion where it belongs, in the realm of personal opinion and experience, and don’t try to impose on others by spouting half-truths about a subject none of the people here have sufficient expertise in?

I am keeping it in the realm of experience. Don’t forget that it’s not just young people that play GW2.

As a designer of military aircraft instrumentation ( kittenpits ) for nearly 2 decades, I have an understanding of interface design. The current interface is poorly designed for combat. It’s pretty and its pretty useless.

In my opinion, if you have everything right smack in front of you, you probably play the game and get a massive headache out of it or a very strong urge to puke. The game will look hideous and instead of helping, it may also make the information harder to read – humans also has selective vision (to help them focus). Your research, motion induced blindness, will actually contribute to this effect as well because the information has movement too (numbers and cooldowns).

Overall, i like the current interface. If you analyze it properly, it has different area of focus which in my opinion is really helpful, etc. all cooldown and healthbar neatly tucked at the bottom, center helps to battle and movement, immediately up will be enemy info, left to monitor party health, bottom right for map. The eye coordination doesnt strain the eyes too much. I’m sure with more research, better interface will be developed in the future but to i disagree when you say the current UI is a fail.

I also think, deciding against AddOns is actually a good move because that way it takes less resource to monitor for botting activity.

Human interface design ( Ergonomics ) has been an established industry for years. The current interface fails as it requires the player to look at a mess of useless graphics to find key information.

You may like what has been provided but that does not change the scientifically established fact that the interface is poorly designed.

At least, there should be a minimalist interface option and custom positioning of all elements.

Unattainable Goals 2

After playing the game for quite a few months I have learned that it is not hard to make money at all. Grinding dragons (I agree, they should reward more) (unless you want a chance of a precursor drop) and grinding events in orr is not the way to go.
The simplest way to get money is to play the game. My boyfriend and I have different play styles. I like dungeons and fractals. Running a fractal a day I can get anywhere between 1 to 5 G. That’s from one fractal or dungeon run if you choose to actually kill enemies. Now my boyfriend prefers PvP and normal Pve. He sells everything he gathers. He actually makes more than me by memorizing the zones that have expensive materials and bringing his alts to level there (there’s vanilla beans in Sylvari starter zone, cauliflower can be found in Sparkfly Fen, massing up mithril that feels very much everywhere in high level zones is still quite profitable too.) also sell mystic coins that you get from dailies and if possible salvage high level yellows and oranges if selling them is unprofitable and you’re not going to use them, because tomorrow while making my armor I noticed that ectos are hitting the price of 40s for each one. And the price will continue to rise because there’s so much demand.
Money will never rain from the sky, but making 5G a day by just playing is not that hard. Oh and when it comes to legendaries, they are supposed to take years of work. Don’t rush it

They are not scared that people will quit the game, they are simply protecting their monetary interests.

They allow you to make enough money to pay your repair bills, way point costs and the gearing out of a new character once in a while, but nothing beyond that, because they want people to buy gems -> gold in the gem store. If you want to buy that Abyss dye for example, you have the option to either a) Grind for a prolonged period or b) Make a quick purchase in the gem store. A lot of people will choose option b).

That’s why you also see a static money-gain throughout all areas of the game. While your suggestions are good, they will never be implemented because of what I wrote above. It’s the price you pay for playing a B2P game (and having Nexon run the game now).

I don’t think that that was their intention with allowing you to change gems for gold. I think that the function is only there, because you can change gold for gems and might want to get some gold back if you end up not using them. Why do I think this way?
There’s a limit on how much gems can you buy daily and how much gems can you buy monthly.

I have bolded the statement you made that I take issue with.

I play nearly every day for many hours. In general PVE I do not make 5G. In fact, at no time in the months I have played have I ever made 5G in a day. I have never had an exotic drop in general PVE, only chest rewards and they total 5 ( 1 was useable ).

5 in over 800 hours of play.

You may like to run repeatedly around the nonsense that is FotM. But I do not. FotM has sucked the life out of the game and demonstrated that the game is a grinder.

Guesting is Coming

There is a true international community that was fostered by ArenaNet in GW1 with promises of its continuation in GW2. Part of the joy I had in playing the game was to make friends from all over the world through my guild. GW1 bred that international feel and cooperation and now it is being ripped away. Until this point, we were freely able to play on different worlds, knowing that actual free world transfers would end but be solved by guesting. Now it isn’t happening. And if world transfers are so horribly difficult and bad, why were we allowed to do it for free for over five months?

None of us hate Anet. None of us do not appreciate the wonderful creation of GW2. None of us are whining because we didn’t get our way. We ARE, however, expressing the loss of something we held dear. The loss of our community isn’t funny or irrelevant. It is sad and all the more hurtful, because we truly believed things would be better for us in GW2, not worse.

For truth.

There are many reasons I purchased GW2. One was being able to play with international friends, as was the case in Guildwars. As was promised.

But I find I am being screwed over by a game company that simply does not give a kitten about it’s player community. This I never would have expected from Arenanet.

Ok so, i hate PVE, i never ran a fractal, but i want my ascended gear for WvW it would be nice for casual players like me who works and have limited time to play, to have access to top of the line gear by buying gems using real money i would pay up to 300$ for them if necesary, i think many other playes who don’t really have time to farm the fractals or don’t even like that hadcore farming concept would do the same.
I think it is ok to give WoW kids something to farm but i don’t think is right to force the non Wow players to do it aswell. I just wanna do WvW, so make the ascended gear buyable by badges or real money, u are ruining the game… If we want to play WoW we would just do it, think about that.

Multi-Boxing

Cina Reas.6938

If you just boot up two accounts on the same machine and tab between them, controlling them with distinct inputs, they don’t care. I do that all the time and have admitted as much on the forums, in threads I know were getting official scrutiny. It’s only if you control multiple accounts with a single simultaneous input that they get upset.

Multiboxing, which is NOT allowed in GW2, is controlling separate characters simultaneously. One key press, one response per account.
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Multi-boxing

Alt+tab between accounts isn’t multiboxing. Playing each box one at a time isn’t multiboxing. This switching between accounts seems allowed in GW2.

Quoted from Wikipedia: ‘Multiboxing may be as simple as running two instances of the game on one computer (each logged in to a separate account) and switching between them.[’

Please use the term properly.

I’ve run AC a lot, all paths.
I know what my gold count is supposed to be after selling blues and greens.
When I switched to a full magic find exotic set, end gold remained the same — meaning blues and greens were most likely unaffected.
Rares and exotics disappeared entirely.
Anything beyond Omnom bars seems to make your drop rates decrease.

Oh, and I just solo’d a level 79 champion and got a blue shield worth 63 copper as a reward.

And again we see evidence that rewards have not been fixed.

I have stopped thinking of GW2 as my game for the next few years. I can see the carrot on the string, but it is rotten.

“The reality of it all” is that players like me who believe in integrity and act on principle will never, ever buy anything from the cash shop so long as we believe we are being played for suckers by ANet… and thus they will make less money than they might otherwise.

I will never contribute a cent past the purchase price of the game until such time as they actually deliver the game they promised… which will require fixing one whole hell of a lot of bugs and horrible, horrible mechanics that make GW2 something much less than FUN — which is why we play games to begin with — and so frustrating as to inevitably be not worth playing at all.

If ANet’s management is so stupid as to not realize that their design decisions are driving players away, then they deserve their fate.

Exactly my position. I feel that I have been conned.

Ya all sound like spoiled kids. wha wha I could do this in GW1.. well GW1 isnt GW2 you assume they work the same network wise but they dont.

I must pick you up on this. I can assure you that international banking architectures handle this sort of mirroring every day at negligeable cost.

This is a killing blow to the international guilds and demonstrates a very poor consideration of the social aspects of the game.

So the story mode dungeons are only to be played by elite players and only in the prescribed way? LOL.

Let’s put it this way:

You got an exam.

No matter how badly you do in that exam, you’ll still pass anyway. How is that a good test of your knowledge?

It’s the same with dungeons: They’re a test of skill. If you can just keep running to your death and still get your reward (“passing the test”), how is that good design.

As I said previously, you aren’t catering to casual players, you’re catering to the entitled who think it’s their God-given right that they should be rewarded.

Please do not forget GW2 is a game, an entertainment. It is sold to the general public as such.

The story mode dungeons ( just to be clear: Story Mode ) are already hard for a large number of casual players. Are you suggesting that these players are excluded by increasing the difficuly?

And as for rewards; Have you actually completed a story mode dungeon and seen the vendor trash you get?

Having just endured 1.5 hours in TA with a team of casuals, only just managing to complete it. There is no way it should be made any more difficult by restricting how it is played.

The only reason I assume this though is because he specifically mentioned waypoint zerging to be an issue,

An issue for whom? This is PvE how can it be an issue except for more uncompromising players.

“only way to beat some of the difficult encounters at the moment is to have dead players run back from nearby waypoints while players that are alive kite the mobs)”

That’s the issue.

Really so what, if a group wants to do that who does it hurt?

It’s just plain poor game design, getting rewarded for playing poorly. It just brings the game down.

You’re not catering to ‘casuals’ then, you’re catering to ‘entitled’ gamers who think that they have the right to complete the dungeon, regardless of how poorly they play.

So the story mode dungeons are only to be played by elite players and only in the prescribed way? LOL.

The Tale of Two Jewellry Recipes...

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cina Reas.6938

Cina Reas.6938

I have already stated my opinion on this matter so all I’m going to do is post something simple.
Here’s the thread with a number of posts 17days ago asking for clarification. There was no response until the ‘banhammer’ had already dropped. It was in the BUGS sub forum where most people would go looking for the answer to the question whether it was a bug/exploit or an intended recipe:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/support/bugs/Is-this-intended-with-the-snowflakes/first#post1136155

Here’s where the timely response was when the question was asked 17days ago and answered a day later… in the BLTC sub forum under a title that most legitimate players wouldn’t be searching in:
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/game/bltc/How-to-make-1-glob-of-ectoplasm-into-stacks/first

I said I was on the fence because I didn’t like: the exploit, the way the guilds have no way to re-establish leadership with a banned, deleted, abandoned leader account, or the fact it was a permanent ban and not temporary ban with a fine.

What is so wrong with a net sending out an email to announce the exploit and punishment or even an announcement in News to make sure everyone knew they were risking their account. COMMUNICATION is very lacking and had it not been many of the grievances would never have occurred.
EDIT: I am not saying this isn’t an exploit, I am saying it wasn’t clear to everyone that it was and therefore timely communication could have saved a lot.

I recall seeing a post stating that Chris Whiteside from ANET wanted to improve ANet’s communication with its playerbase… This seems like a huge failure in that regards. As you said, a simply announcement/email/etc would have done wonders for informing players. Maybe an in-game mail to all players when they log in. But that’s not all, you have ANET employees refusing to answer or even attempting to answer the question when asked in-game (http://i.imgur.com/0SICA.jpg)

TL;DR: I agree that there needs to be more communication between anet and the players.

While many people will say that those who use the forums only represent a minority of the total playerbase, ANet has other means of making announcements. The launcher for example. A quick blurb “The XXX recipe has a bug that can be considered an exploit. >>Click here to find out more<<” Or an in-game mail explaining that there’s a bug with the salvaging of XXX and that exploiting this bug will result in a ban of XXX days (or indefinitely, whatever).

/agree.

This treatment of players is disgusting.

I play on Crystal Desert too and there’s loads of people everywhere, always people for events in every zone, lots of people in WvW. Maybe you’re just logging on at too bizarre times ?

Do not listen to the Fan Boys they will defend the game no matter what. I enjoyed reading your “wall of text”. The truth is that low level zones are dead, mid level zones are dead, and high level zones are dead. The only populated areas are WvWvW during peak hours and Lions Arch. Lions Arch will most likely be too populated though and you will pushed to an overflow server. At whic point it’s unlikely you’ll see too many Crystal Desert players, if any. Heart of the Mists is an absolute Ghost Town with the exception of the Anvil Rock server. You are more likely to see people in the Human areas because most players roll Human characters. There is a Guild Wars 2 looking for group website that is great. It’s pretty much the only way to find groups these days.

What was the point?

In the end, Anet will see the effects of this in future events.

RNG Boxes in Gem Stores for Events, sales will be down. FACT: Many people spent $50 or more on gems for the RNG boxes alone and got absolutely robbed. Those players will not touch them anymore after being burned that hard.
RNG Event Mystic Forge recipies will be avoided. FACT: Many players threw away countless stacks of glue and stuffing to make the tonics, only to end up broke, without glue or stuffing, and sitting on 5 frames that now have to sit in their inventory and take up space.
Events that promise to give a reward for participating will see less participants. FACT: Many Players who were involved with Tixx each day at his reset, does the jumping puzzle each day at reset, and spent time gift-hunting in pve/pvp walked away in the end with Nothing, (or their choice of 2 mini’s, of an available 9, at best). Some people shot for tonics and now cannot make the mini’s.

Many players were burnt on many levels with this event.

Sure, those who got what they wanted aren’t complaining. Good for you.

I’m not asking for anything FREE. I understand Anet has to make money somehow. But limiting it all to so much RNG and then making sure we couldnt grind out mats, thus forcing us to resort to gemstore to complete the collection is complete bullocks.

If the Golem/Inferarium/Snowman was a package like Halloween, then 700 Gems for that, (2 purchases, 1 to make Foostivooo The Merry) is reasonable. Then we can take the 2 free mini’s and drop another 1050 in gems to get the other three. Perfect. No complaints. That’s still 1800Gems that needs purchased or Gold-Sunk. Probably would have had More buyers at that rate.

As it stands, people put 2000+ Gems into those wintersday boxes and walked away with 1 or less of those mini’s. Then, find out the next day after exhausting all gems on their RNG boxes, that they weren’t giving us the ability to craft the 5 gifts and we would again, be required to open banks and dish out more for Anet.

Message received loud and clear Anet.

Please post up some good third party sources to confirm all these “FACTS” that you are telling us about.

FACT: The guy is a hater and is mad at and event that hasn’t even made it to the final stage! They should ban him from the toypocolypse then he would have something to complain about lmao.

And when the A-net tax men come knocking on your door you can go looking for help in an empty world.

The reality is simple to understand. RNG and loot tables are A-nets tools to screw the average player out of reward satisfaction. A rare for killing Zhaitan? Level 80 chests that always drop lvl 65 rewards? Op mobs that wipe low level players and cause repair costs.

And worst of all in this sick game, The Trading post. Where the rich screw the poor and A-net charge value added tax.

Happy whatever

One, one exotic as a drop from a mob ever since I started playing at pre-release (even dungeon, dragon or fotm yields hardly any rares ever or exotics except for a few special cases.. like the karka chest or the champion chests in the labyrinth on halloween before they nerfed it). My luck was bad enough before the 15th nov… if it was bad luck at all.

You are confusing need with want. You don’t need to do anything in GW2. You do need to eat IRL to survive though. Speaking in game terms, anything visual/aesthetic cannot be a need as it does not give you any advantage.

It is proven that display of social status is critical to our wellbeing. You are wrong to believe that ‘Bling’ is not a need.

It is not healthy to go around GW2 in the cackiest armor waving a rusty sword, appearing to be a failure.

Yes, the AI is weird (Coming from a man with an 80 necro and two rangers, trust me when I say pet/minion AI is shotty). But think about it, programming an entire AI isn’t a night’s work. It takes months, especially when you test for loopholes and flaws. Coding isn’t an Instant gratification sort of thing. It takes time, and whining and “threatening” the devs by quitting (good riddance) is a waste of our time, and a waste of theirs. I can’t blame the devs for ignoring forums full of whiny twelve-year-olds who demonize the devs regardless of the nature of the post.

You Sir, are insulting your fellow players.

One Time Events: "Life's Not Fair."

….

To pull away from the topic of rewards for just a bit, I’d like to instead point towards the actual reasoning of this game: To have Fun. Developer Colin Johnson says it best… http://www.arena.net/blog/is-it-fun-colin-johanson-on-how-arenanet-measures-success

Fun; several hours of fighting and numerous rezzings of others to be cheated of a fair reward by the Developers!?

Some received vast riches.
Some a handsome reward.
Some were cheated of a fair reward and far to many saw nothing for their efforts.

That is not funny.

Why is everyone so obsessed about making gold?
Isn’t the point of playing a game to have fun?
Is it a race to get the most gold so you can buy what?
Stop farming and start playing the game, you will stop getting disappointed.
Otherwise find a farm game.

I don’t farm. I also don’t have any gold for flashy weapons. I can keep my level 80 Rare armor repaired. I may be able to buy 3 pieces of exotic armor. But it will be the wrong spec.

This game ( PVE ) is a disappointment.

Here’s my feedback on the Lost Shores.

At 22:40 pm, 3 players, including myself confirmed they were on the map.

My character was killed within 1 second from the following attacks:

13,256 Champion Karka Spit
13,770 Champion Karka Spit

As there is a cost for travel to waypoints, a repair cost and the value of drops are often inadequate; I do not find the Lost Shores island entertaining.

Maybe it’s because their priorities are being skewed by an ultra-reactionary community.

Their priorities are being skewed by RMT.

It’s interesting to see how pandering to the ingame economy ( BLT and external traders ) has crippled the viral consumer attraction to the game. GW2 is a stunning piece of work that has so much potential.

Have the devs taken the Kings shilling?

Im very frustrated

Cina Reas.6938

Thats it, im giving up on this, i’ve played every single class, i have tried elementalists multiple times, staff, dagger, scepter, all, i have done many keybindings and played countless hours, elementalists are UP, period. The damage they can POTENTIALLY do is good, yes, but the amount of effort it takes for it is not worth it, when i can do the same with 3-4 keys on any other class.

Also it seems very unfair classes like thief and mesmers get such an easy time, i have been playing elementalists ever since release and I would be very happy when I would get a kill somehow, i thought it was supposed to be hard because they do so much damage, then i played ranger, theif, mesmer and realized that I could that, more and MUCH more without having to use not even 1/6 the effort.

“Just play another class” NO, i like elementalists, i like their gamestyle, I dont like the others, i play for fun, and being able to do stuff is fun, elementalist feel underwhelming, period. I like pressing buttons but i want to have a more reliable reward, anyone with half brain can dodge a 1 1/2 second cast spell ground targeted with a hitting radius of almost a few paces, most skills have to be oriented at enemies, they are not locked unlike almost every other class, you mess up ONE skill and you can pretty much kiss goodbye to life.

Yes, this is a rant, but after being playing for this long, tried MULTIPLE builds, played with friends, asked them to test things out on empty servers and overall was very humble in asking for advices I have come to the conclusions elementaists need some heavy rework, specially water, and yes Im looking at you; staff and D/D

[/rant]

The only way you can play ele effectively is if you learn to act like a macro. Some players are happy pressing 10 keys to do a simple job, others find it brain eating.

Lost Shores: Creating Winners vs. Losers

in The Lost Shores

Cina Reas.6938

ok honestly as long as you looted the chest you won….the minimum you could get out of it is 30g worth of items..the max is 200g or so…if everyone got it it’d ruin the market as well so the random factor has to be there. What upsets me is that some of us didnt get to do it at all and some did it over 3 times, ruining the market ultimately.

But still your post is excellent. I dont think a one time event, or any type of event for that matter should give the most valuable items on the game. People would’ve been happy with this event just for the bag and trinket since they are very much worth it. The extra rare things should stay extra rare…though I’d support making dungeons and such more rewarding.

Also, the ultimate solution if you are going to have a one time event and dont want people to abuse and farm it because you are giving a big reward is simple: instances that can only be entered once per character/account…simple…otherwise scratch this idea of a one time event.

Someone posted somewhere else that a very good way to execute this type of event was the way they did the halloweens back piece, it was an interesting quest, reasonably long and had a reasonably good reward (at least back then since it was harder to get back items than it is now). And everyone got a chance to do it. Didnt hurt the economy because the reward was soulbound.

WRONG

My reward: 2 lvl 36 rares, 2 level 65 exotics and the Account bound items. These do not add up to ONE gold. This event was grossly unfair.

But, reporting this unfairness to Arenanet awarded me the highly sort after ‘Minor Email of Tough’.

Big thanks to ArenaNet for this awesome event

in The Lost Shores

Posted by: Cina Reas.6938

Cina Reas.6938

Yes, I actually said it. After reading all those threads telling ArenaNet how much they suck, the event sucks and how unfair it is, I had enough of it and had to make this thread.
I’ve seen no thread like this yet, a thread actually thanking ArenaNet for all the effort they put into this huge event.

I must say that I really appreciated all the hard work, I’m sure I cannot imagine how much work they have had to put in to creating NPC’s, the dialogs, the event-scripting, art-creation, etc, etc. And then I’m not even talking about the new puzzles and dungeons.

I really enjoyed the adventurous feel this event gave, I liked the new event’s, the new area and the new puzzle. I also very much enjoyed the event phases itself, even though sometimes laggy.
I’m sure ArenaNet has had the intentions to make this event as fluent, solid and enjoyful as possible, and it didn’t happen for all of us, but that doesn’t mean you can go all out on ArenaNet for it. Why?

Because they put all this hard work in for free, it was really ambitious and the idea is amazing and beyond anything we’ve seen so far in MMO’s. The idea was great, the event story-line and creatures were amazing, just like the new areas, and for a first time, I’ll take the inconvenience such as lagg-issues and timezone differences for desert.

I’m sure this is a great learning progress, and I really wan’t to thank ArenaNet for the awesome job they have delivered. I really do hope all the negative feedback from those who, for some reason, couldn’t appreciate this amazing (free!!) event did not turn you off to do such a thing again.

My compliments to ArenaNet, which they in my opinion deserve far more than all the other feedback they’ve gotten so far!

I will never thank anyone who cheated me out of a fair reward.

More Events like this please

Bring less of these “events”.

I wasted round 20 hours total on phase 1 and 2, till late night hours, stalking official forums, third-party event guides and gw2 wiki to find the information on when and how bugs will be fixed, as well as general directions of rather confusing event (phase 1).

I’ve been also told that I need to complete phase 1 and 2, in order to complete phase 3. This original idea (which was later scrapped) probably meant that it wasn’t feasible for the average user to complete event chains leading up to finale more than once, if at all possible (thus, no multiple-chests-per-account exploit). In retrespection, however, I’ve been lied to in this case.

On phase 3, I had appointments and couldn’t make it exactly on time. I arrived at my PC 2 hours from the event’s start, and to my horror tried to login for 30 minutes straight to game desperately, allowing the event to end practically everywhere, even on overflows.

As a rational person, I expected “multi-hour” event to last for at least few hours, but as it turns out again, population on american/global servers outweighted interests of european/african and SEA timezones, scheduling the peak concurrency time exactly at noon (12 p.m.), PST. Clearly, working people and minors of said timezones were blatantly shut down from participation in the finale, which they’ve likely worked hard to earn access to during phases 1 and 2, based on information from official channels.

Given the time & effort given to previous phases of the event which went straight to nothing, I expect nothing less than a formal apology on this debacle. No, I’m not asking for the reward chest, or punishment of people who looted the chest multiple times. That is your responsibility now, dear Anet, in terms of “damage control”.

Damage has already been done – now I merely ask you, to provide a higher-quality entertainment value in the Wintersday event chain. Not for “peak concurrency users”, but for all of us, with families, obligations and life outside the game, regardless of where we live and how we play the game.

One-time events are great to start and end “event chains” (such as Halloween, or Lost Shores update), but they shouldn’t be tied to in-game rewards, especially rewards of such magnitude as phase 3 of this update. In the future, please reward participation in the whole event, not “turned late and contributed nothing” crowd which jumped from server to server rolling the RNG wheel lottery to obtain a precursor.

As much as this event has been fun & great in terms of loot for those who were lucky (no DCs, no crashes, no login issues), it fostered bad blood & envy in the players, dividing community instead of bringing it together. For a community-oriented company, bent on providing best social experience in the MMO world, this should be a first warning sign: don’t antagonise, divide and fragment your community with gear progression, badly-designed special events and ill-thought cash shop products.

If in doubt, please play your own game on a normal account, without developer priviledges and “insider” knowledge of how game is structured and is most optimally played. Experiencing these issues firsthand is the only reasonable way to understand the real issues your customers have, as opposed to synthetic metrics analysed through the rose-tinted glasses of confirmation-bias and self-appraisal.

PS. This is not a personal attack, excuse my strong wording. I merely ask for acknowledgement of legitimate issues. If this is a wrong thread, please move it to general feedback thread. It’s definitely not my aim to provoke a string of negative responses and thread derailment.

Opinion: I think low-level players are treated unfairly in events

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cina Reas.6938

Cina Reas.6938

Fairness is important.

It is socially unacceptable to invite 20 guests to a dinner party and single a few of them out to be served their main course on a saucer.

All players were invited to the Lost Shore event, as they were to the Labyrinth; if required, boosted to level 80, therefore doing damage as a level 80, rezzing as well as anyone else.

But, low level character players are clearly considered unfit to receive a fair reward, they were segregated to receive low level, low value rewards.

Low level rewards, if useable, will only be so for a few levels and are worth next to nothing on the TP, Whereas a level 80 item will be significantly more useable and if not, highly likely to generate a few gold on the TP.

I feel great sympathy for those that could not take part in the Lost Shore event, or in the last instant were unable to reach the end chest . I do not feel envious of those who were given precursors. I am simply mildly disgusted with the unfair way low level players are being treated by Arenanet in this type of event.

All players should be treated fairly.

Keep in mind my criticism of the way the game is run is concerned with fairness at a player level. I do not care about the value of a reward, only that it is a fair reward.

I have posted this here as it concerns all events.

This forum is filled with people just searching for something to complain about, omg. Arenanet makes this AWESOME event, with rewards that people have dreamed about since day 1. Precursors in a boss chest. Now more people have them, and can make legendaries. I didn’t get one, I’d love to have one, but I think it’s great that people finally got theirs.

Also the price went down A LOT because people were mass selling them. But as there’s so much demand and not enough supply the price will go back to it’s original price soon.

We need more events like these to get the precursor price down, so more people have a chance at legendaries. Good job arenanet, don’t listen to these guys complaining, they’ll complain about getting free precursors in the mail if they can.

Just to clarify why some of us are very unhappy with the rewards. I played through to the end chest and received, 2 lvl 36 rares, 2 level 65 exotics ( all vendor trash ) and the Accound bound items. Because the event descriminated against players lower than level 80, without any consideration of the players input, I believe I have a perfectly valid complaint against Arenanet.

I will never ever recommend this game to another player.
