Sorry; They just reduced the levels.

Reading the wiki ( and playing the game ), I can only see 14 points during experience gain to 80, at which the character improves attributes, plus 10 intermediate points in which the character could improve via traits.

Of course it could be changed to the following: Be given a new blue weapon every 10000 xp and say the game has 486 levels.

“If you had to describe the game to a friend who wanted to start, what would you tell them?”

Graphics ok but not as good as FFXIV
Combat is simple button sequences and rolling all over the place while you go cross eyed trying to see through the kitten on the screen.
Unrewarding unless you want to grind.
Story is pants.
Updates are limited.
Non PVE gameplay is zerg or dead.

Ok for… well it’s not ok. It was a good game from beta until the day after Karka island.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Cina Reas.6938

Correct me if I’m wrong but isn’t a level in an MMORPG conventionally marked by an improvement in character stats. If that’s correct them GW2 has less than a third of what was included in the original game!

Reading the wiki I can only see 14 points during experience gain, at which the character improves attributes, plus 10 intermediate points in which the character could improve via traits.

I guess I should be happy that I played to 80 when it was possible.

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cina Reas.6938

Cina Reas.6938

Yeah it’s intended and it’s stupid.

Leveling up is more rewarding now, didn’t you know?

Calling something stupid simply because it’s different from what you’re used to is really childish. As Vayne has said, had this been the way it was from launch, you wouldn’t even bat an eye lash at it.

Also, leveling rewards are more than just skill points. You get actual items now (and ones that you can use and most that you can choose the stats for). So yeah, leveling IS more rewarding now.

Level 21 rewards you with nothing but a level 20 amulet.

The game is being turned into a fancy looking whack-a-mole. Please can either you or Vayne turn the lights off when you finish.

Just because some games have even worse designers doesn’t make the rng and grind in gw2 acceptable…. It just means it’s not the worst contender. Also GW2 is aimed for a us/eu audience, the audiences who least enjoy long terrible grinds.

Name one MMORPG that has better RNG and grind?

It’s important for the game and this content to scale and descale properly. Scaling for dynamic content has always been based on near real time adjustments to eliminate the possibility for griefing and maintain proper challenge.

If that system is broken, or just not properly applied here, that needs to be fixed asap. The entire game depends on proper scaling and there have been enough compromises to the game’s core design principles with out them losing ground on this one as well.

It is broken.

If you can’t find time within 4 weeks to complete very easy , very quick content then MMOs in general are not a genre you would enjoy.

I found the story in Guild Wars 1 more captivating than the one in GW2.
I remember staring at my screen with tears in my eyes when Rurik’s head was bashed in by the Stone Summit.. However, when the dragon was messing on Claw Island and all that, I couldn’t be kitten d whether or not Trahearne would die or not..

So true. But for me it was searching for Lady Althea.

Here again we have people equating “makes sense” to “good character”.

I would say it is more of a case that people need to stop shouting about this not making sense, no matter how much you hate the character you should at least consider the facts.

The simple fact is that, a hell of a lot of players think that the LS story is garbage thrown over the Lore of Tyria ( GW1 and GW2 prior to LS ). No matter how much effort you put in, in an attempt to paper over the cracks, with recent addons to the wiki and pseudo bioenergetics ideas from other sources, the stink from the cracks exist and is growing stronger.

Next the wooden spoon is going to crack open the planet and suck out the magic. Is the plan to make the dragons shrink so we can buy Dragon fairy pets ( + 5 IQ damage resist ) from the BL just like in those weird free to play grinders.

After this LS. I wouldn’t be shocked if it happened.

The perceived need of wearing max dps gear to compete only really applies to people who subscribe to the meta, and who don’t fully understand game mechanics.

I’ve never gotten complaints from the dead berserker thieves/warriors about my Celestial elementalist in the Crucible of Eternity when I solo down the bosses after they die 3 times, using up my invulns in the process of reviving them. Only the occasional ‘how the hell did we all get 25 might’.

A former guild mate of mine is doing rather well with his own original Toughness/Healing power build on his Ranger, in dungeons, WvW and fractals, without him people can and will wipe.

And the best player I’ve ever met was a virtually unkillable Guardian in the Aetherblade Retreat; when we did the dungeon in the early days of its release, that guy tanked Mai Trin and her lackey long enough alone to revive the entire dead party.

There is no need to subscribe to a meta just because many people do it. The strongest builds in the game are builds that maximise the characteristics of each class, and very few of them are well known, other than the permastealth burst thief. The celestial buffer/support/AoE elementalist, max clone tank/single target attacker mesmer, the healing power specced recovery ranger, the tank/conditioner/healer necro… all of these are extremely strong in their regard, and most players will never have met even one of them.

There’s more diversity than just ‘tank’, ‘healer’ and ‘dps’, and certainly a lot more diversity than ‘dps’ alone. Meta players just ignore their existence to specialise repeatedly farming the same events the meta is specialised for. Sometimes there’s even better ways to complete the same meta, but it requires too much effort to understand compared to ‘wear zerk carry GS spam 2’, so they’re left by the wayside in preference to those builds that can do relatively well and are very easy to execute.

You make several very important and valid points. But the blinded meta player rules, via in game population and cash in bank (A-nets). It is unfortunate that the game has not been adjusted to encourage the visibility of effective builds.

The game is like Holi, u can’t see kitten so damage is king.

… Not everyone is going to like or appreciate the idea of LW, and that’s okay. But I hope that ANet will stick to their guns on this issue and continue to fine-tune LW until it becomes what it was intended to be.

Fine tune what?

GW2 has only shown signs of life in the TP, Maybe if the Tower collapses across Kessex, and stays that way, then ( in that area alone ) we would be seeing a living world. As for the rest of GW2, its a good looking fair ground ride with regular temporary events. It’s fixed, static, dead as a door nail and just the same as a host of other MMO, except it has no expansions.

For the most part the ‘Living Story’ is hamster wheel content. The players have no effect on anything.

That…what.. :\

This is an incredibly rambling post, and also one of the single most nonsensical references to Occam’s Razor I’ve ever seen. (It’s not about reducing complexity, it’s about reducing assumptions.)

ANet is a software company. These people are all programmers. Corporate IT assets, including personnel, get reassigned to different projects (both long and short term) all the time.

That’s…fundamentally confused. That’s the same level of confusion I get when family members see my 3D art and ask if I drew or programmed it. Just because Anet is a software company doesn’t mean that everyone is going to be able to contribute to bug-fixing full time, even for a single release.

I can assure you that most intelligent human beings can get into testing, checking, etc. I would never assume the PA in human resources could code but she(he) sure as hell could tell me the sword was turning into a staff when skill 3 was used.

The Historian - for people who missed content

in Living World

Cina Reas.6938

We feel like our fractals dungeon is the perfect fit for this kind of “historical” experience, similar to the way the BMP worked in Gw1. Even better, it already exists and has explanations behind why these slices of time are available to discover and experience within.

In the future, you’ll see certain types of content that was part of larger story experiences be updated to work within the fractals dungeon and return there where it makes sense to do so. Of course, the specific rewards and achievements will not return since those are intended to be completed as the story unfolds, but the content itself will be used to expand out our fractals experience and serve as a place to continue to experience great (and strange) moments in history.

A significant number of casual players can’t manage to get through level 1 of the fractals.

Why do people stop playing GW2?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Cina Reas.6938

Cina Reas.6938

Because, GW2 PVE is simply emotionally unrewarding when compared to other games.

Few sessions end with the feeling of having been involved in glorious battles. To often you cannot see what you are fighting. You are not given enough time to understand what is happening, work out an appropriate response and enjoy the combat. The whole healing side of things is pathetic. A lot of players don’t enjoy being ganked, GW2 ganks.

Few sessions end with the feeling that efforts have been properly rewarded. A-net will happily give ‘Bob the Grinder’ 3 precursors and regular exotics. Average PVE players get to see one, no use to their profession, exotic in 3 months. Who cares if it’s simply RNG. It’s simply Anet refusing to reward player effort properly. I killed Zhaiten for a useless rare.

Many GW2 players have moved on to other games, eg. Neverwinter, DC Universe, Everquest, because they are not enjoying the ‘New’ GW2; they know they cannot keep up with the mindless grind for an extra 13% damage advancement or any sort of status gear. They are too intelligent for a Pachinko style game; they need a higher level of satisfaction.

Good friends no longer play because they cannot see the point of grinding
L(azy) Story achievements to find out what happens to an Evil Twiglet.

What could have been a living world, always changing, rich with mysteries and enthralling stories, immersive and dangerous to the player character has devolved into a?

Let me give an example:

The hours of effort put into Tower of Nightmare gives you….

A stone that sits in a pond.

I’d rather have had an Urgoz bow; at least it would have been amusing.
