I never said it does, for the record. However, ANet has rules regarding character naming. Hence, my comment.

We, at the moment, have no idea of what took place with the Dwarves beyond that, though. True, no “mortal” Dwarves may still exist (so far as we know), but that doesn’t mean they don’t have ways to bolster their numbers now — they’re living rock, for what it’s worth. The possibility of Primordius being defeated and the Dwarves returning to flesh and blood is also still there.

Kinda hard to do Dwarves as they were all but wiped out fighting the great destroyer

Can that lore be found anywhere in the game? I’m not accusing you of being wrong, but the Guild Wars 2 wikipedia doesn’t state that they’ve been wiped out, only that they have no contact with the surface and have dedicated themselves to stemming the tide of the Destroyers.

And ANet has stated explicitly what they are doing to handle bots. Just recently they snagged a few thousand of them, and day in and day out they have people working on the issue.

I’m sorry, but it’s not as if ANet can snap their fingers and, suddenly, all bots are wiped from the game. It’s just not possible. You want to help ANet in coming up with a solution? Then bring a real suggestion to the board, rather than another rehash of “let us PK bots”.

It’s been 250 years since the events of GW1. Territories have waned and expanded, cultures have thrived and evolved, the races of men have spread and interbred, people are born in one city and migrate to another, etc. You seem to be stuck on what was. You need to look to what is and will be.

I understand that you see this as a failing of the creative design team and an inconsistency with the lore, but I would wager it isn’t. Stories and lore change, and one has to accept this.

Gw2 need raids

Because they like GW2. When asking for “raid”, they don’t ask for a copy of WoW/LotRO/WAR/SWOTR/Rift/TERA/whatever raids, they ask for a competitive cooperation PvE experience. GW2 Meta Events and dungeons don’t give that. What’s wrong in giving suggestions to try to make the game better?

No, most seem to be asking for a straight 1:1 raid experience in line with other popular MMOs. If any suggestions have been given in how to grant GW2 a “competitive, cooperative (which is contradictory, mind) PvE experience”, I’ve yet to see them.

If players do actually want to propose suggestions to expand on the PvE experience, then I’m all for that. In fact, I’m actually curious to see what others have to say. Currently, though, the proposed suggestions seem to be “raidz plz”.

Is there an interest in having a class-change option?

in Suggestions

Cinder.4865

Plus it forces you to buy more character slots if you want to experience all 8 classes.

This isn’t an argument against the proposed suggestion, as ANet could always charge more for a class change — 1000, 1500, even 2000 gems. The willing would pay it gladly.

Imagine a handful of class changes bought by a single player, rather than one or two character slots (if they even buy one in the first place) that they eventually give up because they don’t enjoy leveling, but do want to experience multiple classes. It’s pretty obvious which stands to net them more money and player happiness.

I’d have interest in it, but I don’t think it’ll ever happen, unfortunately. Seems there’s some sort of player stigma associated with it (and things like race change), one that I don’t understand.

I’m not privy to ANet’s reasoning behind their stance on the matter, but I do know they’re not interested in race changes, so it stands to reason they’ll never consider class changes. A real shame, when you get down to it.

DEs will not foster community if you do not let them — this is a given. And the same goes for any other piece of content. If anything, raids do not “foster”, they “force”, which is not what the game was designed for. As far as I’m concerned, there is a massive difference between:

“Guild, we’re running a raid, I need 9 other competent people.”

And

“Guild, we’re running as many DEs as we can, all are welcome.”

And given that the nature of DEs would allow you to find others to invite to the guild to enjoy content with, I’d say it’s clear which has the ability to foster community. If DEs are not, it’s not because they don’t, it’s because players are hung up, again, on the word “raid” and refuse to take responsibility and foster the community themselves, instead expecting the onus to be on ANet.

I just want something more then farm token for gear and when u got your gear its REALLY nothing to do, then u quit playing :/ Raids is in many games and raids is holding the game alive. but i think Arenanet can do something special with them…..

Correct me if I’m wrong, but isn’t this “farm dungeons for tokens for gear” the very same principle as a raid, just with less people? You farm raids for tokens for gear, there are normal and heroic versions (story and explore modes), and each has story relevant to the game world. All I can see that’s missing is the chance to earn titles and achievements.

Am I missing something? After you’ve finished all raids and earned their associated gear, the game is still “over”.

Edit: It seems people are hung up on the word “raid” and the fact that it usually involves 10 or 25 people. These things are not necessary for GW2. You are better served by proposing new dungeon and/or boss mechanics that you believe will add the challenge you are looking for.

Feedback: How to improve models/graphics some to make more 'visually' interesting

in Suggestions

Posted by: Cinder.4865

Cinder.4865

Honestly, most of this boils down to personal preference and taste. I love most of the armour models, really, and I think most of it looks far better (and in tune with the GW universe) than WoW’s armour models.

Don’t go overboard on the poly counts and focus more on the ‘oh my god that is sooo amazing looking’ factor.

I get this feeling with a lot of armour sets. Again, personal preference and taste.

Lastly, we need enchantments and glow effects on our gear. That always helps make things look awesome.

I disagree heartily. To me, enchantment/glow effects end up making gear look bloated, especially when they’re just heaped on for the “cool” factor. Perhaps a toggle option would be best, if more wish to see it. Something akin to hiding armour, but hiding the effects instead.

People are stuck in this mindset that they must get to endgame content and only play end game content. But this game is not designed for that. It’s designed for the whole game to be played at level 80. But people look at this stupid level number and think they should only be in those areas.

And, as I’ve said, your suggestion will not fix that. Players will find the absolute “best” area to be in, then they will all go there. ANet has incentivized and given gentle encouragement for returning to lower level zones. If players choose not to, no one is at fault but the players, because they refuse to abandon a particular mindset — or they truly enjoy the area for what it is, in which case they are not to be blamed.

Long story short, though: you are not forced, in any way, to personally stick to the level 80 zones. Play elsewhere, find others that like to do so as well, create a guild centered around doing group content in myriad areas, etc. You have the power and tools to make this a non-issue, it’s your responsibility, so get to.

tl;dr: it isn’t about a number, it’s a matter of time/effort input to reward output and what is fun to each individual player.

Frankly, you should have modified the first post of your original thread and made posts pointing out you had done so. Abandoning the thread in favour of another that is, essentially, the exact same thing just looks like you were trying to abandon the negative press that came with the original suggestion.

I’m sorry, but nothing’s changed, this is not a feasible “evolution” for the game, nor is it one that improves upon the current features. It caters to what is likely, in my opinion, a very narrow subset of players that would likely be better served by finding a game that already offers this.

I’m just baffled by the idea of replacing a number with a colour and then arguing that it’s better because it’s the same thing, only now your level is a colour, and we now have to redo all these features that work fine. It’s… well, it’s inane, to say the least. =/

This is the same system with a skin over top of it.

There are maybe only 10 players in 1-15 zones on my server. Because high level players think they need to be in Orr.

That is not the game’s fault, nor is it something that your proposed suggestion will fix — as was already mentioned at least twice in your last thread.

You two "solanu.3784 and Cinder.4865 are just in a race to get to endgame content. what is really tedious and unappetizing is grinding in the save level area game every day.

We’re a month and some change outside of release, my highest level character is level ~65, I’ve run a single dungeon once, and I’ve barely touched anything the game has to offer. Please don’t make assumptions, especially about me, as you’ve been doing this entire thread. =/

I am enjoying the whole game, not just level 80 zones (as evidenced by my above statement), and I still think your suggestion isn’t a good idea. It doesn’t add anything to the game, and it certainly doesn’t improve the experience.

Edit: Furthermore, you seem to be deviating from your original point. Are you trying to suggest a colour-coding system or ways to “force” (which shouldn’t be the case, you should be trying to find ways to gently encourage) players back to lower level zones? If it’s the latter, what you’ve initially suggested won’t do that, and you’ve completely derailed yourself from your original point.

And, still, as far as I can see, this isn’t to improve upon what we already have, but to appease some for the sake of “immersion”. I’ll admit to being wrong if someone wants to correct me on that point.

ANet made a mistake by making you think just because a zone below your level that you are now finished with it.

ANet has not done this, not in the slightest. In fact, they’ve stated explicitly that this is not the case, and that they intended, from the start, for players to always be returning to other zones. If this mindset still persists, it is a problem of the player, not ANet.

As for your suggestion, might I ask how gear would be handled? Would it be unchanged? If so, how would I know when I could equip my next piece of gear? Would being in a city reveal my true level? Or are you implying an overhaul of the gear system, too?

You can’t make such assumptions, make a suggestion that does nothing more than change the aesthetic of a system — while ignoring comments made against it — and then accuse players of having an ego. That’s insulting. And this system does not solve that.

Idea to deal with Bots

in Suggestions

Posted by: Cinder.4865

Cinder.4865

The idea here is that a bot would never be in a town and when it is out of town it’s always active. players who are afk in “unsafe” areas wouldn’t be on the move so this basically reduces the chance of abuse.

also, after thinking it over, auto banning is indeed a foolish idea. so maybe keep the stuff on bots. the players can still report them, but they have the option to take care of the issue themselves if they want to, it’s entirely up to them.

Unfortunately, this doesn’t reduce abuse. There will always be that player who sees someone AFK and says, “let’s report them as a bot and have some fun.” ANet then has to deal with the resulting mess and ban someone that would have, otherwise, been a decent player had they just not been handed the tools.

As it stands, the way bots are being dealt with now is satisfactory. All it requires is ANet upholding their side of the deal, so to speak, and they are honestly trying.

My next question is this: other than the hiding of some arbitrary number, what does this change? What sort of improvement does this bring to the game? The idea of exploring and getting whomped by a red monster still exists with what we have now, so I don’t really see any reason to change it other than someone’s “immersion”.

As for Skyrim, Aedan, the reason level didn’t seem to matter is because, for the most part, most content scaled appropriately to your level. If it was meant to be harder, it was scaled up from your level, but still approachable, etc. GW2 was not designed in the same manner.

This sounds like a good idea on paper, but in practice, it would actually detract from the game. Honestly, my suggestion is that if you don’t want to pay attention to your level, ignore it. As much as some might disagree, no one should ever be forced to re-roll a character — this is what a race change service is there for, for those willing to pay. And pay many will. Not everyone enjoys losing the time they’ve invested into a character because they’ve grown bored with the character’s chosen race. Why should someone be penalized for it, when it does not effect you?

What will you do when ANet introduces a new race and there is no way to switch to the new race, other than to re-roll and lose all the time invested in your favourite character? I suspect more than a couple on the opposite side of this coin would come here and ask for ANet to change their “policy”.
