it is contradictory to otherwise established norn culture?
Others have already responded, but if ANet adds something, it’s obviously an addition to the lore, something we possibly didn’t know about before or has come into existence since the original Guild Wars.
Lore is not immutable, learn to accept change.
How does something break lore if it comes down from ANet themselves?
Well, other than the shoulder width, the tallest, bulkiest female Human looks strikingly similar to the shortest, thinnest female Norn. I’d have a hard time telling them apart at a glance, unless one was wearing racial armour or had a race-specific feature, such as Norn tattoos.
Bump. 15 characters.
Just want to be absolutely sure before I send the invite: the Mac beta client is usable by those we invite, correct?
It’s probably a silly question, but I’d like to be certain before I waste an invite and let a friend down.
Well, guys, the answer clearly lies with the Asura and their magitek(?) screens. Honestly, IG news being disseminated by a new UI panel skinned to resemble the Asura’s holo-screens would be a neat addition.
You buy the wrong thing in the real world and people won’t refund you 9 times out of 10.
Actually, most stores will. Just like most online shops have numerous confirmation dialogues before you actually make the purchase.
I’m actually confused, at this point, where the sentiment that people need to “grow up” is coming from. If anything, the ones politely putting their ideas forward and leaving it at that are being the most civil and adult in this thread. I also don’t see anyone blaming someone else for their mistake. In fact, most have admitted that it was their mistake.
I guess I’m glad this is a game and not work, then!
/snip
Tirade about Karma refunds aside, a system to refund Karma/gold (or, on a much larger basis, rollback a character) should have already been in place. It’s a staple of online games, with the things that can go wrong, and there’s no reason it shouldn’t be implemented.
Again, I don’t see the issue. If ANet decided to do it, it would be when they deem it appropriate, and I highly doubt it would actually interfere in the implementation of other features/fixes in the meantime — if that were the case, we’d be suffering for their work put into fixing the guesting feature.
Now, I kindly ask that you stop insulting players for no reason and have a bit more faith in ANet. I don’t think any abuse would come from the feature, given ANet knows what to look for (given the original Karma refund system that went awry), and would have a better idea of what to do. Even if it did, it wouldn’t stay around very long.
Edit: Also, it would be nice if people would stop using “it would get in the way of other things” as a prop to support their whole dislike of something. It is a valid concern, one I often have myself, but it’s usually a baseless one.
Well, I hate to burst your bubble, but it has absolutely nothing to do with being a “better gamer”. It’s somewhat ludicrous to claim so, in fact. No, this is just about being forgiving for mistakes. Crap happens, it doesn’t matter whose fault it is, having a system in place to help prevent it is better than telling people to “suck it up”.
Given that this doesn’t affect those who are already careful, I don’t see what the issue is, other than the need to feel high and mighty.
i’m shocked that people need foolproof stuff that can be easily replaced by the act of paying attention.
Mistakes happen. Many, many other online games are very forgiving of this. There’s no reason GW2 can’t or shouldn’t be.
Just enter Rata Sum, find the Asura’s Gate to Lion’s Arch, then take the Asura Gate to Divinity’s Reach. From there, you’ll be able to hop into the Human starting zone and beyond. If you run into trouble, just give a holler over map chat, someone should be willing to help you.
So many greedy people here. Is 2 silver really that big of a deal to you?
For those who don’t have all the time in the world to play and/or farm? I’m sure it is. Getting nickled and dimed for traveling and attempting to play with friends is a disappointing experience, I imagine.
It was suggested for Magister Tassi during the Halloween event, and I don’t see a reason it can’t be done, but a historian NPC that recounts (activates the relevant cutscenes) the recent events to you would be a good way to solve this.
Frankly, I don’t understand the need to limit it in such a fashion as ANet is currently doing, other than to try to draw in as large a crowd as possible, which is a bit ridiculous.
A confirmation dialogue is all I need, as it’ll save most people from making the mistake in the first place.
Veteran Oakheart creatures should charm wild animals and use them to defend against players

While I’m not necessarily against the idea, it’s simply a re-skin of “adds”. Instead of spawning them, though, such as, say, the various wolf NPCs, the Oakheart would instead be taking them from the nearby area.
A neat bit of flavour? Sure. An interesting mechanic that adds strategy to the fight with the Oakheart? Not really. Again, though, I’m not against it.
I’m fairly sure that it doesn’t, as lore has nothing to do with swinging your sword and killing NPCs 10, 100, 500, or 1000 times. Honestly, lore and achievements are separated, as achievements are milestones accomplished for in-game actions that usually have absolutely zero basis in lore — this holds true for GW2’s achievements.
You’re not exploring the reachable world covered by the game’s lore, you’re exploring the game world given to us by ANet. Hence, the achievement in its current form.
(edited by Cinder.4865)
Because, maybe, the game’s lore has nothing to do with the achievement.
Ahem. I am not the OP, fellas. I was simply refuting Turial’s point that the OP is somehow unimaginative or that wanting to have the name across multiple characters is silly.
Not to sound bad but are you not capable of coming up with another name?
Different characters have different names for a reason. If you want to keep deleting and remaking to try out a different storyline or character just because you like the name…. well, that is just silly.
Some people become attached to the names/handles they use online, nothing wrong with that.
I personally love the way Sylvari look. After ANet’s redesign of the original Sylvari, they are exactly what I expected from ANet’s descriptions and art peeks at them.
I’m sorry that you aren’t happy with the current Sylvari, but Mimizu does make a good point on how to make them feel a bit more like a dryad.
No. If people require that their characters have breasts, they may play a Human or Norn.
I agree. It’s common for MMOs to include an option that allows the player to block all incoming guild invites, so the player can’t be spammed/harassed. There’s no reason it shouldn’t be an option in GW2.
In regards to the personal story, reset it. If they don’t feel like programming another marker to note when the player should begin receiving story rewards again, then they just need to very clearly warn that the story will be reset and that all story rewards will be disabled.
LOL guys. A secondary profession? Like in Final Fantasy or Lineage?
Surely, SURELY you guys meant a secondary profession like in GUILD WARS 1. Thanks.
No, that’s not what they meant at all. We want a way to completely change our class from, say, Warrior to Guardian — much like FFXI or, really, any FF job system. We don’t want GW’s multi-class feature of Warrior/Guardian, as that would require more resources and become a nightmare to balance.
There’s a huge difference in what’s being proposed and what you seem to think is meant.
I’m sincerely baffled how people can honestly consider the current setup — spamming chat to find a group — a social aspect of the game. Spamming chat with “LFG AC” or “LF1M AC” is not socializing, folks.
Furthermore, standing around waiting to run a dungeon is not an enjoyable experience. If a proper, server-wide LFG tool was implemented (WoW-style or otherwise), people could properly be socializing by playing in the world at large, rather than waiting to find a group to run with.
So, no, charging people for a proper LFG tool, when it’s a default function of modern MMOs, is a gross, gross concept. ANet has more common sense than this, and I’m confident they will find a solution to the LFG issue. And if people dislike it, there’s nothing stopping them from continuing to stand around and spam chat with “LFG AC”.
You get no support from me, as the evil Quaggan scourge should be wiped from the game. :<
The problem here, Nachtnebel, is that you seem to be under the misconception that it will almost always be a joke, and that’s not the case. Sure, some will claim after the fact that it was “a joke gone wrong”, but… no, that’s not always the case. And it should never be treated as a joke unless you’re amongst friends who know it and are okay with it.
I guess we must agree to disagree. I don’t think the mindset needs to be taken that far, personally. And if a day comes that they use the word class for another mechanic — which I doubt, given that confusion, as you have pointed out, is likely to occur — I’ll make the change with no issue, as context will provide the necessary information to understand how class is being used
i think you guys are not understanding that this is the internet. the only opinion that matters here is Anet’s and i don’t see them getting more than a warning. this is not real life.
people will be rude. suck it up and stop crying.
You are absolutely right, it’s a game. However, the chat is not divorced from real life, and we can immediately see that it’s not RP. You are also right in saying that ANet’s opinion is the only one that matters in this situation, as they are the judge, jury, and executioner.
That doesn’t change the fact of what has happened, though, and it doesn’t call for you to similarly be so rude.
How did they know your GF was a girl. Did she publicly stated she was a girl? Just how did that chat really looked like?
“hello Im a gurl and I need help”
Something smells fishy here…
My guess is she has a feminine name that immediately denotes her gender to others.
Actually, it is sexual harassment. If you said this to someone in a work environment you would be fired and hit with a lawsuit.
No, they would just tell you to not make that joke again.
It depends more on the company, I think. Some take it more seriously than others, as they can’t afford the fallout. However, even if it was only a write-up, there would be some action against the offender other than merely a verbal warning.
Edit: And, even then, it’s still on the victim if they want to take it further than what the company did.
Bump.
Any luck on that patch note, Frisket?
Could you post the particular patch note list that’s from? I can’t recall seeing it.
Edit: I found this: Transmuted cultural armor now prevents opposing races from equipping it.
But that doesn’t seem to be what you’re referring to. Was another change made that I missed?
(edited by Cinder.4865)
GW’s word is professions, not classes.
Profession, class, tomato, tomahto. It’s all the same thing, doesn’t matter what you call it.
That said, I’m not against new classes. I only hope that they continue to diversify the classes we already have and continually add new things to them alongside the new ones.
You may want to ask for your thread to be moved to the discussion forum, then!
So what is your suggestion?
I would like to see a bard profession.
would that work lorewise?
Why wouldn’t it? Lore is mutable, if nothing in the existing lore supports a bard class, there’s nothing stopping ANet from adding lore that does.
Uh, those were completely optional scenes. No Bioware game has ever forced anyone to deal with homosexual scenes without giving the player chances to get out.
I think “forced” in the context Varyag is using it means “tacky”. You’re right, no one was forced to play through those romances, but they were still tacky and poorly handled.
I could be wrong, though, but that’s how I read it!
Considering the daily reset is at the same time every day, I can’t actually see a point for this. I’m not against it, though, if there are people that actually want it. Just seems strange to me.
I disagree. My playstyle doesn’t require adrenaline, it’s simply another nice thing to have and use, one-dimensional as it is. If you get more out of adrenaline, great! However, that doesn’t negate my opinion and my experience with the mechanic.
I’m guessing the Sylvari and Asura share T1 and T2 cultural weapons because they ran out of time before launch. Just give it some time, I’m sure they’ll change them.
I know this is not a topic for warrior change, but since you touched the subject. Yeah cooldown on a warrior shows a really lack of imagination.
It’s not ‘lack of imagination’, it’s for balancing purposes. otherwise warriors would walk around with only shields to block incoming attack most of the time. And warriors would be the only viable ‘tank’ for dungeons, making them necessary and needed to complete any task.
That depends entirely on what replaced cooldowns, actually. I don’t think GabrielD is really pining for a complete removal of the cooldown mechanic, rather a replacement with another resource that’s far more fun to use and accomplishes nearly the same thing as cooldowns — much like Rage in WoW, which was a fun resource to manage, in my opinion.
(edited by Cinder.4865)
Ohh, okay. I see now.
Sorry, though, that’s an absolute no. As neat as an idea it is, the vast majority of players aren’t going to want to walk away for a few only to come back to their character on the other side of the city. I imagine this goes doubly for RPers who sometimes need to step away.
Er, what, exactly, are you suggesting? Walking around and talking to NPCs are both already doable. As for opening shops, that reminds me of another thread that asked for what, essentially, boiled down to Ragnarok Online’s market stalls, and that’s a, well… a terrible idea.
People AFK, there’s nothing to be done about it. It’s one of the many things one just needs to accept and move on from.
this said, WoW’s Vanity Pets weren’t account wide, nor were their achievements.
They are now!
Adrenaline is a hit-it-and-quit-it mechanic. It doesn’t really add much to the Warrior’s playstyle, nor is it a resource you need to manage like the Thief’s initiative.
I like this idea! As a Warrior, I’m pretty disappointed by my lack of combo finishers!
I’ve done it, so unless they’ve disabled it, you should be able to. Is it possible it’s a keybind that you’ve reassigned?
Edit: Ahh, there it is. Thanks, Archmortal.
