The devs show off spellbreaker and people instanly cry overpowered and how it makes core warrior more obsolete, then the devs introduce a change to make core warrior more relavent and people still cry.

Ya just can’t win huh?

Core warrior at its core is obsolete.

Warriors and Daggers

I don’t really get any of this hate some warrior players seem to have for daggers. I understand that they could be perceived as only being agile thiefy weapons but the whole flavour of the Warrior is that they’re weapon masters. I think warrior getting dual daggers is awesome, since they’re being used in a more warrior-in-your-face kinda way, and especially since there seems to be some lore ties to them representing the spearheads of the “broken sunspears” or something. As far as I see it, the only weapons that don’t make sense for warriors are the ones with magical ties (sceptre, focus, etc).

A warrior who would not carry a backup dagger was not a very smart warrior. in my book.

But… Spellbreaker isn’t about carrying daggers. It’s about using a martial art that involves broken swords (which just so happens to also apply to daggers).

I was not talking about warriors as spellbreakers. I was talking about real warriors.

Wasn’t the sword often considered the sidearm of choice because it was fairly lightweight, easy to fasten and manoeuvre? Daggers on the other hand are often considered concealed weapons (although, admittedly, Parrying daggers were a thing). A knife wouldn’t help you charge a cavalry line, nor would it help you repel a spear wall.

I personally don’t think this elite spec has basis on history though, and is somewhat based off the protagonist of the Seven Deadly Sins (or a similar concept).

no, swords were a main weapon or a backup to a pole arm

daggers were backups meant to be used against surprise attacks where unsheathing a sword would be too cumbersome. Being able to counterattack and react where why daggers were a very common backup weapon. As such, a counterattacking class, would make sense to have a dagger.

There have been numerous threads on the topic and the discussion always is the same. Proponents always insist that this should be easy and critics point out that ANet has said it’s not.

The short story is that it’s just really hard to reset a character at all, never mind its race. That makes it a bad option on which to spend resources, since there are other things that people also want competing for dev attention.

I’m not saying it’s hard or not, but Anet had quite a few pretty lame excuses in the past for various things. “Can’t seperate PvE skills from PvP, because we don’t want to confuse people” is just one example.

Some things, yes they have had some majorly lame excuses.
As a dev myself, i do not even have to look at the code to understand that, you want them to pull out a list of everything that they have to store on their server pertaining to race, personal story choices which involve races and probably other things that we might not even know.

Then you want them to make a UI which allows you to rechoose every single choice for your new race up to the point that you currently are. Oh, and they will want to make sure to continue to store these values just incase they want to reference them for future updates, living world or other xpacks, and if they miss one… you could end up seeing your wish to join the circus suddenly pop up while playing your honorbound charr.

Either that, or they would have to send your character back to the VERY BEGINING of all the stories.
either way…. its just not worthwhile.

I’ll take sending my character back to very begining, no problem. How do you know that’s not worthwhile? You seriously think that people would not buy race change contract, while they buy total make over kits regularly and even useless stuff like minis? How could you possibly know how many people would buy this?
Again, I’m not saying it’s hard or not, because I don’t know, but let’s go for the second option, let’s avoid all the possibilities, decisions, UI designs etc.. and just restart the story. Now, that could be simple. If it is, then how it’s not worthwile? How is it not worth to charge, lets say 1000 gems for resetting someone’s story?

not worthwhile to program in.

I came grom EQ2 and one of the things that nade me leave (aside from the ProsiebenSat fiasco) was the constant grind. Now, I realise I don’t have to do it but getting ascended stuff does feel like a grind and/or a gold sync.

that stuff is for people who like that stuff
they have to cater to the audience for it as much of the time, those are the people who will continue supporting the game financially the longest.

Making it optional makes it excusable for the masses, and that is great.

Ps.. maby this is bad gamedesign but:

2 minor traits are around CC….
So even if you go non cc weapons you cripple yourself…
Like dagger/dagger + Gs seems like a fun build.. BUT sword only has 1 CC skill…

Why do 2 minor traits that you cant decide benefit around CC?? Sure the new F2 is a CC.. but you dont need dagger for that.

So issnt that bad design?
This pretty much force you into a heavily CC build.

Usually CC is used to set up bursts (like GS’s 100blades) so it’s not like you’re completely not taking advantage of the CC’s effects. Not only that but you can wield CC utilities while wielding a GS if you desire.

Besides, players have been clamoring for a way to leave behind GS since, like, the beginning of the game. We’ll have to see if the charges mechanic affects Bull’s Rush so you have multiple uses of it to help escapes…but even then, people will just want to combine it with GS’s escape…

Gs is my favourite weapon on the citadel

Cloud Windfoot Omega.7485

I think its ridiculous, the costs should not be too amazingly high, unless they did not have a very good structure to work off of.
Which of course would pin them blame on ANet. Either for being too cheap, or for badly implementing a system for rendering which makes it too expensive to change. EVEN so, their parent company is Ncsoft…. they are not hurting for development cash.

To be fair, I am making assumptions about their work environment and how much NCsoft values them. It just does not give off a vibe of them being “industry leading” when they are stuck in the past with a… basically abandoned API. But yet again, maybe theres things I am missing, every devteam is different and have different challenges, which means while i came to this conclusion it can be far off of theirs, both could be right, mine could be wrong or theirs could be wrong. Or even, both are wrong. In the end its up to them, today I am just a voice.

Of course I am making assumptions based on my own work, so I do guess

Cloud Windfoot Omega.7485

Yeah! I’m sick of these incredibly broad concepts coming into GW2! First it was jumping. Just like WoW! Then swimming! Then we had steampunk mixed with magitech in an overarching fantasy landscape. Just like WoW! And now we’re riding animals. Just like WoW!!!

Come on guys. I’m a little cautious about mounts too, mostly for the ungodly eyesore they’ll be in towns and whatnot. But let’s not throw around baseless accusations or comparisons. Mounts make a game “just like WoW”? Seriously? Well we’d better tell Dragon Age: Inquisition, Oddworld, every Final Fantasy game (many of which predate WoW), Horizon: Zero Dawn….I can be here all freaking day.

And I kid you not, before GW2 launch I heard the same thing when people learned we could jump. I wish I was exaggerating. I am not. If you have a legit concern about mounts, you can jump on the bandwagon with the rest of us. Yes, even myself. I’m not really anti-mount, but I am very skeptical about their implementation. But there’s no reason to go around saying this game is “Just like WoW!!!” for having a very simple concept that MANY games share and that WoW in NO way cornered any kind of market on.

Autoloot in PvE is tied to Heart of Thorns, as one must own HoT to access Masteries.

I’m guessing those Masteries will continue to be tied to HoT, just like Gliding and obtaining Guild Halls, Gen1 Elite Specialization, Legendary Crafting, etc., but the Devs haven’t made a statement that I know of, yet.

Path of Fire is going to have masteries for mounts at the least. Do you honestly think that mounts will be unusable without HoT because you believe HoT will have the whole mastery system locked to it? Think for a second.

The more required traits to make something work well, the less diversity there will be

There should be lots of hard choices with equal opportunity and equal draw for players to make. When a single trait outshines the rest, why even have specializations?

Elites get a pass because simply the whole point is to sacrifice a spec line to get a totally new play style which in most cases trumps all others. They are designed that way.
fast hands being the sole reason for locking a specline makes little sense, especially with elite specs around. We should not be locked into 2 of our 3 spec lines just because we want fasthands and elite simply because fasthands is just too ingrained in how we play warriors.

they are injectors so they do not rely on it itself reading the exe, instead it interceps which dll file the exe will read.

Cloud Windfoot Omega.7485

Hey there, not sure if you’re new to GW2 but want to give a little clarity on that…

World Transfers are only used to swap your WvW worlds; you can play all and any other content with your friends (providing your worlds are on the same region.).

Furthermore, I believe transfers were tiered as a prevention to people mass-swapping wvw servers and collapsing / overflowing them.

I hope this info helps.

they should just drop WvWvW swap. Basically, you can change your game world, but it will not go into effect until the week is out. That should take care of people trying to be on the winning side! You should exit with the world you entered with, it’s only fair.

Then they can lower the price, if that is the reason.

Because right now, WvW is the only place that your world matters. For PvP and PvE, it’s only your region (NA or EU) that matters, as the world is a mega server. With this in mind, there is no reason to change the price of the server transfers, as they only affect WvW.

That is true

I still say that switching should only take effect after the week honestly.

The extra character slots only come with the Deluxe/Ultimate edition and as far as I saw there was no option to buy HoT Deluxe or Ultimate bundled with PoF, only the basic version.

But once you’ve got HoT you can upgrade to the Deluxe version using the gem store and then you’d get the bonus character slot.

I am wondering what comes with the purchase, do we get a character slot on 80 boost as well or is it just the xpac?

you get whatever version of PoW you ordered, 1 extra level 80 boost (which I will never use, so it will sit there, mocking me forever) no extra anything else it seems.

Are you aware that you can use the level 80 boost on a character who is already level 80? If you do that all you get is the bonus gold and items, it won’t change your build or give you any extra XP or anything. But some of the items are nice (celebratory dye pack for example) and it gets rid of the boost and frees up the shared inventory slot.

Oh really? Must have been bugged when i tried it 2 days ago, it said “will not work with this character” and i just left it

i will try again now

probably, since it does remove a boon. But it will only remove the boons and not apply them to you, if it does work.

Where I was going is proccing the AoE boon removal from Enchantment Collapse, so each person you interrupt is stripping the boons of the enemies around them.

I do not see why the trait would discriminate against it.
