As for the topic, there are pros and cons to keeping old masteries relevant in new content. The pro was already stated. The con is that new or returning players will have to deal with an enormous grind in later xpacs. Anet wants you to be able to jump right into the new content. That’s why they give you a free level 80 boost and a set of exotic gear.

It’s long overdue. I hope mounts come quickly to WvW. And maybe a new borderland for the green side so that every side has a unique map. Blue is the classic Alpine map. Red is the Desert map. Green could be the new hotness. EB is EB.
mounts are debatable in WvW
especially since one mount would basically be a get-over-all-walls free card.
I guess I was too general, my main issues with Orr/Story:
- 3 Maps of just the same enemies give orr (:p) take, just risen risen risen.
- So many story steps seem to be filler as you just go to the objective and fights waves of risen while waiting for trahearne to do something.-Airship cannons and mini dragon creatures, one is enough really.

living world abilities will probably either be abandoned (like season 2) or be optional for those who do not have access.
The tether has to land the burst first in order to work. It will certainly favor certain types of bursts over others given some ‘easier’ to land. It would be interesting to see who gets tethered if it a burst that hits multiple enemies. Thief will have to pay more attention and ensure they not hit by a burst.
There could be interesting counterplay as well. As in if a DH and tethered with pull drop traps
might hold all of them. Sacrificial warrior creates AOE pit for team
Mageblade Tether looks so broken OP. Just think you tether someone, then use greatsword to zoom halfway across the map, and that poor soul is going to be yanked after you the entire way.
Not to mention mageblad tether is probably going to result in people getting stuck in walls literally every match.

What would you focus on? What kind of skills would you want? What kind of combat role would you want warrior to take?

what if they did make them passive, lesser versions of themselves, but they fully rework our stats?
endure pain would lower damage we take, but lower our damage output too
Balanced stance would give us normal damage output, but rather than stability, all control effects are reduced, or allows us to break out of control attacks.
Berserker raises adrenaline per hit, and lowers Condition lengths
fury still gives quickness and might but makes us glassier
stuff like that
i dunno, maybe evade skills should inherently drain endurance?

“kitten pants” where the warrior will automatically be feared by an enemy and have this skill auto-cast.

Elite spec is just an extra traitline which also lets you equip a new weapon
Use it how you would choose arms over defense or tactics over strength vice versa.
If I would want to go full dire condition cheese warrior, I would go defense,discipline and berserker
If I wanted to go full dps warrior, I would strength arms discipline or strength defense discipline. (yes berserker gives you a lot of % modifiers but in the end, I wont have much use for the berserker mode because in most situation the enemy will be dead with my first adrenaline bar filled up).
Just another traitline which opens up warriors to be in balance with the roaming dire/perplex mesmers/thieves/guardians in open world pvp and pvp. (implying its extremely great spec for condition warriors or even hybrid ones)

make the skills slightly curve when they move, so they don’t just have to sidestep a little, make the warrior into a homing missile!

just faced an ele that i went to town on, never missed a ingle hit with hundred blades, and and wailed on him and it only took 10% of his health while i was in berserk
no one killed him the whole match and we even 3v1 against him at one time

I don’t know how you guys still find the courage to make such big efforts to try and give some interesting, even good sometimes, ideas to make warrior a more balanced class in the current meta-game… (no sarcasm here). Not even talking about thief and ranger community…
I mean, there have been hundreds of similar topics but strictly no feedback from the devs. Not even the slightest.
Talking about it between us players is a good and sane thing to do, but with no feedback ever it is pointless and even more frustrating.
I say let them do whatever they want to do with their game, like they always did anyway, and make hypocrite statements about how precious and useful users feedbacks are to them.
Don’t waste your time trying to change things that will never change (or if they do, will only be a unilateral decision).

The problem with the skill is that its targeting behaves different than most of the other skills, as it will fire off in the direction your character is facing.

it has its uses yes, but much of the time you have points where you want to use to but you cant because you used a skill that changed your characters facing.
Can’t say they don’t know what they put in their own game. They knew exactly what they were doing. Everything was extensively tested.

Like any example not all elements can be compared ofcourse. Basicly im trying to say, people worked on it and people do not always make perfect things and do not make everything equally good.
But its true what you said, they failes to fit the “pieces” Together nicely. And yea they sold anyway, but thats a trend we see everywhere since people are online and updates can be done easily compared to the times were we played offline and internet wasnt a big thing yet.
as a dev myself (not on this game) it totally feels like a slap in my face when devs cant treat their game with the respect it deserves. Usually a publishers fault, but patching is just a kitten excuse. A game Should be in full working order and be in a good state before charging money.
bugs sure, some are easily missed, in one game devs found a bug and they worked on it, one day they fixed it and after releasing the game, they found YouTube videos of that same bug in the released game. (i know the guy who was the one who said “its fixed” he felt so guilty)
thats fine, they thought they fixed it but in truth they just could not replicate the problem.
here its just like they dont care about us, the players. like we dont matter. How can they think warrior was ok at any point? This is not ok. You dont buy a car and then find out that parts that were advertised don’t serve any purpose and dont work as they should. When you then ask “hey could you fix this” they say “well thats what its suppose to do, but over the next month we will fix it to work more like it should have all along”
Why? Well ofcourse it wasnt intended. I work as photographer, and sometimes when i make a serie of pictures they are not all as perfect, and one is better then the other. It isnt different in gamedevelopment, especially when you consider different teams working on different " pictures". Besides once you down the road and put in many hours of development/money you cant go back. Maybe a developer wants to, but management wont let you.
so warrior is just not the best designed, it happens, people tend to make mistakes and warrior elite looks like one

Best meta for warriors right now is to reroll DH or reaper. DH and reaper are like updated warrior specs and they are top of the line. Beserk doesnt seem to be made for pvp.

in the Fate/stay series, berserker is a guy who has a huge weapon capable to massive damage, while also being virtually unkillable.
Someone didn’t watch fate/zero, that berserker is insanely fast, agile, and while completely nuts had excellent battle strategy
not the point i was fate/stay not fate/zero, diffrent fights and still not really were that diffrent.
besides, fate/stay berserker was extremely fast, agile, but he was not all that nuts.
Just as much as “brutal” and “savage” can describe a warrior, “skilled” and “tactical” do too.
I find the Saurus Lizardmen of the Warhammer Fantasy universe represent warriors really well.
They may outwardly be regarded as dull, they don’t even know how to express abstract concepts, but actually have a very keen intelligence. That intelligence is entirely focused on warfare though. They can come up with strategies on the fly and execute brilliant maneuvers with expert timing. The Saurus are physically powerful and very tough, but that doesn’t mean they’re just brute strength fighters. They’re skillful at arms and tactical, with keen combat-refined instincts.Warriors (in general, not talking about lizardmen anymore) may not be bookish, but they are by no means stupid. They’re are (or at least can be) very tactical and intelligent fighters.
They don’t have magic or gadgets to rely on, and are instead very physically adept. This doesn’t just mean strong and tough, but agile and dexterous too.
I don’t mean to paint them as super soldiers capable of everything. But I find the contrast with the rogue-archetype often leaves warriors with this “brute strength only” image. In actuality dexterity is much more important to wielding a bladed weapon then raw strength is, and so is a “stat” warriors would realistically have a lot of. It’s just that rogue-type classes focus more on it, or focus on it in different ways.As far as roles within GW2’s combat goes:
Where the thief is a lightly armored hit-and-run melee combatant with high damage spikes, the warrior should be a sustained fighter who stays in the mix for extended periods of time while putting out consistent offensive action. I feel this “offensive action” can be in the forms of damage, CC, or dmg buffing, and carries with it the means of getting to and sticking on our opponents.
As others have mentioned, we’re the offensive counterpart to the Guardian. Where the guardian is a sustained fighter focused on defensive action, creating a hub around themselves to ward off enemy offensive action.
it really is too bad that it feels like warriors are inferior in that very thing to many other classes.

The thing is with berserker if i wanted to play a plate condi i would roll a torch gard…… I really wish they would just keep warrior to gsword and hammer and shield etc. Its a real shame and it seems like alot of the warrior abilities compared with other classes are a bit out matched and outdated. I’m looking forward to see what the devs response to all the outcry.
Warrior should not be a condi they should be plain damage with good aoe offensive peeling like aoe stuns and aoe damage. Right now any class can do better than a warrior (torch gard better as condi/burn spec in pvp) or dragon hunter is far far far better than ham||gsword&bow. Well and gsword you will have a better time on necro and with dual wielding one handers you will do better on revenant. Needless to say something is outdated.

ya when i heard of berzerker the first time i thought it would be designed around high damage and high survivability
instead its built around … fire and other quickly dissipating conditions that cant be reapplied quickly… does not sound much like a berzerker to me sounds like a pyromaniac

Warriors haven’t been the best for years. You guys quickly forget due to your selective memory the down days of this class.
Heck I remember in year 1, people used to laugh at you when you played Warrior because the sustain was so god awful pre Heal Sig or Cleansing Ire that you’d flop over and die. The only people who died to Warrior were those caught by the cheap Quickness bulls charge Hundo crap.
Plus this thread isn’t about “You had it good for the last meta so now you must live with being bottom tier.” That shouldn’t be how balance works. If Thief has been bottom for a while (which I’d argue it hasn’t) it doesn’t make it a sudden priority. Neither is Warrior a priority.
Balance needs to be addressed at present or we will end up like Necromancers. You know the guys who think being OP right now is justified due to them sucking kitten in the past (or so they think, aside from PvE, seeing as Necro was META in WVW and did okay in PvP engagements I never understood the pessimism.)

So just a discussion on the warrior archetype eh? I think that if the Guardian is the person you rally around as a defense, a warrior is the person you rally around for offense. A warrior should be able to participate in a brawl and be the pillar in an offensive effort (which is the complete opposite of how warrior is thief-lite now, pop stances, go in, kill someone, get out)
Also enough of this Warrior is a braindead class nonsense, one of our trait lines is literally called tactics and we have an entire militaristic based weapon in Rifle. I want to see a specialization revolving around playing smart.
i agree, warriors are smart, they know and live the battlefield. They should be some of the best tactitions on the field, and the ones who lead the army and the charge.

stay on the tower and keep to check if any enemy passes by.

ok so lets address the main problem we are having, what role is a warrior suppose to fill, and what can be done to make it support that role?
when you think of a warrior just what does it bring to mind?
if you want you can compile a list of what you think about when you think of the other professions, and use that to support your thoughts. you may even use the current state of each prof.
for me a warrior is the master of battle. for me he should be able to fit into any kind of battle and do well. The longer they are on a battlefield the more of a threat they should be. I see a warrior as someone who as they continue a fight they become stronger. They are able to transfer their will and courage to others. and rally the troops.
now im not enough of an expert to look at every skill to best find fixes and suggest how they can be better. But one thing i have been thinking is along the lines of actually making them weaker when entering into a battle. I know, sounds counterproductive to making warriors stonger.
But what if as they gain adrenaline though their own stikes they become both stronger and more resilient. Yes i know they can though traits, but im talking it becoming more of a standard, and also giving them survivability though the adrenaline rush.
now what if we also combined it with a sort of “Dont wound what you cant kill” type of mechanic. where the warrior maybe gains adrenaline faster when wounded, or is more powerful due to the lower health.
what if warriors had heal skills that rather than healing per-say, it increased survivability rather. I think that could lend to some interesting pvp.
what a warrior is not, is someone who relies on outside strength, such as magic, poisons and traps. I see them as people who want to with with their own ability. as in their weapons which they know fully (including guns even tho they are kinda outside strength) and their own strength.
sorry if my rambling are like that of a madman, i have yet to sleep today. But i still think this can open up some good warrior dialogue.

I agree. Definitely make a new character to relearn the game and organically experience the new player experience.
Once you hit Level 80 you can either chose to finish the personal story which ends with the (spoiler) death of Zhaitan OR you could unlock Season 2 with gems. Season 2 consists of 8 episodes that will take you to Dry Top and the Silverwastes. Two new zones that can both be accessed on the western border of Brisban Wildlands. The story of Season 2 will be continuted in the upcoming expansion.
On a sidenote: Living World Season 1 is not available anymore.
