Here’s the sales from the NCsoft May 10th earning call . As you can see, GW 2 is almost making the same amount of money than Aion, Lineage 2 and Blade & Soul reunited .
But way less than Lineage, a game that’s been release in 1998… You are trying to show this picture and tell us that gw2 is doing well… i have no words…
Its a great deal more social then WoW for most of the players. In GW2 you must talk with your team running dungeons in WoW you do not even need to ask ppl for invites a program dose it all for you. You do not need the ability to even read or talk to rune these dungeons in WoW that is about as anti social as you can get with any standers of human interaction.
Until you do some hard content and u need communication. GW2 doesn’t have that.
GW2 is pretty much anti-social.
1. Guild system – you are forced into large groups (guild missions)
2. No roles. DPS only
3. Easy content
Yes. GW2 is way more anti-social compared to GW1. Why? Because in GW2 u don’t need teamwork. Everyone is DPS. Healers aren’t there, you just need to dodge. So with this huge lack of roles you are pretty unimportant as a player. Also because it’s all DPS, you don’t need coördination, so no communication. In GW1 however you had many many roles, each player was really important and they had a certain task in the group, they have to work together as a group else they will fail. That’s it. In GW1 you have: Tank, heal, protecter, Nuker, CC’er, Hexer, Spiker, Runners, interrupters and many more. GW went from a super innovative game to a simplistic system where teamwork has no place.
Server costs aren’t that much. You can check WoW server costs of blizzard on the internet, google it.
137k/day
Yeah something like that. and they make ATLEAST 2million a day with wow. I think it’s between 3&4 mil. but it could be lower these days. Didn’t saw any data from the last 3 years. But i guesse they are doing fine with MoP.
The problem is, any random dubai person can create an account -> create a lvl 1 char -> buy a Legendary. That’s how stupid it is. There’s is no point in getting a cool weapon, you are better of going to work for 3 hours instead of spending XXX hours in the game. Playing this game doesn’t mean anything, you buy it all with money. THAT’S NOT HOW GW1 WAS LIKE. You needed effort and practice to do these dungeons with organised groups and when you succesfuly did the dungeon you had a chance to get an epic drop. I miss that soooo much.
Do you mean NO ONE in Guild Wars 1 bought gold (illegally) and bought the mats to make obby armor? No one in Guild Wars 1 paid for runs to beat games (with gold that could have been bought the same way?). Do you really think every single person in Guild Wars 1 who had a tormented weapon beat DOA? Because I don’t.
In fact, I had a tormented weapon BEFORE I beat DOA. You could have just about everything in Guild Wars 1, and I mean just about everything by feather farming. You can miss Guild Wars 1 all you want, but at least be honest about it.
Yes, there you have it (illegally). = Easy trackable. But in GW2 it’s a feature in the game to buy gold. Paid runs? for what? a mission? no-one cares about missions. Yes you could get rich with feather farming. But you could get more rich if you used the feathers to create cons and do runs. Ofc, you still need a brain to able to do it. And that’s what games should be about. Using your brain & getting better in the game. = Actually playing the game. Even feather farming is playing the game. Anything better than opening your wallet, buying an item and go show it off. It destroys the meaning of an item.
Omg i loved those small GW1 guilds, had so much fun. Now i have to join this massive guild in order to do content. The problem is, being in a large guild is really anti-social. Most guilds are multi language because of this. I hate that. When i find a guild that speaks my language. I’m serrounded by people i don’t know. All the time there i people i don’t know and it’s so annoying because i can’t feel like a group of friends in this kind of environment. It’s like you are a sheep in a massive company. Atleast bring back alliances because the multi-guild system DOES NOT WORK. If you don’t represent a certain guild, you get kicked. FACT.
spears like gw1 → ON LAND.
and Scythe maybe. Don’t know really

You know that these specific skins at the moment are bought with real life money. Not every other skin in-game that’s obtainable through playing the game. The dungeons in GW1 took effort until someone found a solo build and they could solo them, then a nerf happened, then another build was figured out, so on and so on. There’s much more to obtain then just the current skins -_-
I can’t remember ANY SOLO build that could complete UW, FOW, SoO, Bogroots, VSF, DoA,… They could only solo parts of it, so they didn’t get any chance on these rare weapon skins. And if there was a solo build it would take them 10x longer than a party. So solo’ing would get u 10x less chance to get the drop.
Btw, why is this type of gambling legal? Well because, the money you putted in is gone. You won’t get any money back from the game. So it’s not gambling, more like buying. But what you buy is unknown. = RNG.

The 2 most famous players have been banned by arenanet because they exploited the game. Or actually it’s because they bought an item from a NPC that was to cheap. So anet banned them because they made a mistake in their own game rofl. There are some famous GW2 players left, but don’t do much anymore. (Dontain & MattVisual). The only interesting thing left in this community is GameBreaker TV. It’s funny when i type “GW2” in youtube, the first thing i see is: Kripperrian – World First Permaban
ArenaNet banned these people because they knew they were exploiting the game.
‘’Buying an item by mistake’’ is bullkitten. People knew they were exploiting, they bought thousands of weapons to put in the mystic forge to tansform into exotics and sell, earning thousands of gold.
Kripperrian got banned for making 8 gold. And this was for the chilly pepper thing. Not the 20 karma weapons. The chilly peppers were a nice way to make money, but you couldn’t really tell this was an exploit or not. It was hard to say. Back then, you could NOT report bugs + he didn’t get a warning + he payed 80$ for the game and got banned after a week. In my eyes it’s anet saying: Thank you for your money, now go away, BAN. In REAL LIFE companies fix the problem and say sorry to the customer.

They should really create an NPC that sells these keys like in GW1. Or remove chests, and put them around the world, and give them some nice loot cus keys are kitten expensive in the gemstore. 3G for 1key average. You can buy an exotic for less than 3G.
I think this won’t really give a realistic view. 1 person should have to kill 1000-5000 mobs with and without MF to able to give a realistic view on this. I’ll probably do this in the future. I’m kinda interested. 1 thing, even if MF gives more profit in a dungeon, IT SHOULDN’T. It would mean that dungeons are too easy.
they’ve never dropped from loot for me, and i’ve clocked 1.6k hours now. All chests I’ve gotten were from personal story completions.
u mean, all keys? yeah, i didn’t know they still dropped either. Until i got one a while ago, 2 weeks later, i got another one. none since then.
They never dropped a few times a day unless you were the luckiest man alive. Seriously, get in a L80 zone and loot a couple precursors with that luck.
people weren’t 80 yet around the time i’m talking about. it was the first 3 days of GW2.
After release i could unlock all my chests just perfectly , it was perfectly balanced, you get a few more chests than keys, but with the chance of finding another key inside the chest, i was always able to unlock them all. maybe i was super lucky, i don’t know, but it was like that.
So what happened with black lion key drop rates. Back in september they dropped a few times a day. I started playing again a month ago. got 2 new characters to lvl 80. In this month i’ve got 300 black lion chests. and 2 keys…
Really anet?… 2 keys for 300 chests… Why is this?
EDIT: 5 keys = 450 Gems , 50 keys = 4500 gems, 300 keys = 27000gems
=>> 870 gold… I don’t make 870G a month u know… & i only found 2 keys in this month (which is even lucky).
EDIT: It would cost me €330 to open my chests =S What the…??
(edited by CoRtex.2157)
i get like 10 a day i think. You know what doesn’t drop, freaking BLACK LION KEYS. Seriously, i got like 2 keys in a month. back in september they dropped a few times A DAY… I GOT 300 BLACK LION CHESTS… hmmm gonna make a post about it.
how about ANET increases bleed dmg but removes STACKS!???! atleast people will think a bit more about builds before they go into a dungeon… + It fixes their stack problems. same for all other conditions,, i thought GW2 was going to be a team game, but nope, it’s all solo DPS button bashing, it stacks anyway,
Let me say something, it seems that people think that if you have more skills, only the strongest set of them will be used. Well.. that’s mostly the case. But what you are forgetting is that that only counts for 1 part on the map. What having more skills is about is that you can adapt your build to your environment. With the current system it doesn’t matter where you are, you will always use the same skills. maybe change 1 or 2 skills for a certain dungeon, but that’s it. It doesn’t make the game verry dynamic, it makes it boring & grindy. That’s also why i never felt like grinding in GW1. It was called farming, and was kitten fun with all those builds.
Well… There’s still nothing to do PVE wise,, still no skill-based dungeons/team setups
RIP GW1
yeah, that’s why i played gw1 for 5 years, and GW2 for 1-2months
I rather have a dungeon without paths. It opens innovation for the players. Finding out what is the fastest, let the people create their own paths. you can even split up here and there. I think GW2 lacks alot of choice towards the players. Escpecially with builds/skills.
graphics: are ok
payment model: good, but gw1 was better
leveling: good-almost perfect, gw1 system was more fun though
world: it’s ok, could be better, but it’s better than most mmo’s
In game support: low, WoW = best
pvp: pretty boring , GW1 = best
Gold sinks+trading post = boring, less activity, anti-social
Skills system: ok, if it was like gw1 without sec. prof. it would be perfect
Skill required: brainless pve, pvp copy OP build, will probably change in the future
Story-Lore: Boring, nothing like gw1. (best example: kill end-boss by pressing 1 button)
Game score in my opinion: 7/10
I disagree. Its one of the things I didnt like about GW1 was the constant feeling of playing PVP in the PVE enviroment. Factions was a prime example of this. Everywhere you went each encounter was essentially an AI “team” that all had synergistic skills. This showed up the huge gap in player vs enemy skillsets, and was one of the reasons so many players were turned off Factions/Cantha as a whole. PvP is fine for those that like it, I have nothing against it and participated in plenty of PvP events. But when I am playing PvE, it is BECAUSE I dont want to play PvP and do not want the “same” experience with the game.
Thats why Nightfall didnt have this as much in PVE. Yes there were numerous encounters that were the same as factions but there was also plenty that were also just “units” and not entire teams.
Its why I believe that in this respect Gw2 is far superior. Much less enemy skill synergy, no PvP bleedthrough in the PvE enviroment, and much easier to understand enemies skillsets.
If PvE is like PvP for u, than you are saying that the AI’s in the game is smarter than you as a person.. Cus i don’t really get it.. If you see a group of mobs, you need 10 minutes to kill it in normal mode… cus that’s PVP.. so i find it really sad for u, but for normal people it takes 5-20 seconds to kill a group of mobs.
I’m another long time Guild Wars 1 player, who likes Guild Wars 2 more.
First of all, you can only really compare Guild Wars 2 to Prophecies at launch. At this point in it’s development, Factions wasn’t out yet. And a lot of people seem to be comparing four games with one. Take away professions like the Rit, sin and dervish and see how many people are still saying Guild Wars 1 was much better. Certainly not as many PVe people.
25 missions, no hard mode. That’s what you had. And the mission bonuses were annoying and story breaking in some cases. Many were badly done (particularly in Nightfall).
Sorrow’s Furnace and hard mode weren’t there at launch. There weren’t 8 dungeons. There wasn’t five races and starting areas. And though the personal story is uneven, some of them are pretty good (while others are not). That being said, there are only so many times I could play through pre, even though some people loved it. At least here I have five zones to play around in.
I did like the skill system in Guild Wars 1 and loved making builds. It was my favorite part of the game. But it wasn’t enough to compensate for the incredible lack of necessary game functions, like marketplaces and jumping. The last thing I wanted to do was stand around Spamadan all day, trying to sell a bunch of stuff, instead of playing.
There was plenty wrong with Guild Wars 1. It was still one of the best games of its time but I think too many people remember it with rose-colored glasses on, and even more, many are comparing the full range of games that appear over a couple of years with what we’re seeing in Guild Wars 2 after six months.
In two years, I think this game is going to rock.
First, you say, you have to look at prophecies only, then you cry about kamadan… i don’t get it. All in all, i loved prophecies, because back then, there was something they called “runners”. And there were soooo many runs to do back then, some of them were pretty hard to do like droknar run with warrior. This all died when factions came out. Solo farming existed before factions. The 2 most played dungeons FoW & UW are from prophecies. Prophecies was AWESOME!
At the end of the day, GW1 had also issues when it launched and became better bit by bit. The only difference is that i don’t see it happening for GW2. I’m waiting for more skills since launch. Without build crafting there is no point in changing your skills ever, you just take the best ones and role with it. And that’s just boring. Remember the anet quote?? “We took everything you loved about GW1 and putted into a persistent world”, well that’s just talking BS to get more buyers for your game. I’m still waiting for the day that GW2 will be like how anet told us how it was going be like.
(edited by CoRtex.2157)
The lvl 40 max level idea is amazing.. it would make so much sense.
it’s Anet man.. They have no logic on economy. Better make the game anti-social
GG
without dailies any hardcore player could be in BiS gear in less than a week easily, and then have nothing to do. It took me 2 days to go from my 1st lvl 80 to being in all exotic gear, about 5 days to have all the dungeon skins I wanted. The sad truth is there is really no endgame in gw2, there is 0 incentive to bring your realm glory in WvWvW by defeating the other 2 realms. The fractal “infinite” dungeon doesn’t get any harder with each successive level rather it just add artificial difficulty via agony (would it of been so hard to change the fight/level mechanics each tier and then scale damage and resists for those 10 levels?) oh and agony resists are based off of your RNG on getting loot.
So,, time to bring back skill-based dungeons with extremely rare drops in end-chests (like new legendaries for example) & ecto alike mob drops. -> this will keep you playing for months until you got most of the rares u want, and it doesn’t feel like a grind, because it’s not easy content and you get great rewards from it. Also it would take you atleast a few weeks to properly do the dungeon. if not, then the dungeon is too easy.

You know how you could make this post valid? :P
put “Why?” at the end, and you have a discussion xD
(in before locked post)
More gold toilets >_<
It’s just not funny anymore
How does that list matter? Cyclocross being less popular than soccer doesn’t make cyclocross a bad sport. Quite the opposite actually given how fundamentally boring soccer is … the most popular sport in the world. Yea…
I mean … runescape is more popular than Brood War. What would you make of that?
What i make of that? Runescape is more popular. Still i think Brood War is a better game. However, it’s really old and starcraft 2 is here + expansion. And they have more viewers than runescape. Cus it’s a better game.
Non sequitur. Soccer has the most viewers of all sports. It is anything but the best game.
All-in-all these are just opinions, some people would find sport B better than A. Even if A is more popular. I’m just talking about popularity, more viewers = more popular. This does not mean it’s a better game. But most of the times it is, why else would it be so popular?
I don’t know man. Windows is the most popular OS even though it’s arguably the worst between OS X and Linux. Heineken is incredibly popular worldwide even though it’s well known as a bad beer. WoW is the most popular MMO even though everyone agrees it’s bland at best and boring at worst. Whether or not you think Lady Gaga makes good music is irrelevant, she sure is queen of Twitter. No one likes facebook yet it’s the most popular of all antisocial media. And why is that airhead the most popular girl in school?
The majority of humans are sheep. People tend to flock together, which makes things popular because they are popular. Quality is often not a relevant argument. As such, popularity coming from being a good game, is a non sequitur. More precise, it is an argumentum ad populum and a logical fallacy.
Good point ^^ Thanks for your feed back (u win :p)

I submit that twitch.tv isn’t popular.
I mean why watch other people play the game, when YOU can play the game… honestly…
The channel sounds like paintdry.tv, grassgrow.tv, or snookie.tv….
I don’t care to watch that kitten. It’s the most popular game streaming website in the world.
There are no other good sites. Youtube isn’t made for gamestreams.
just to let you know, at the point i made this post,
League of legends had 28000 viewers
Guild Wars 2: 130 viewersI never heard of it… yawn.
Arenanet streams on it… i guesse you don’t know much then.
WTF is twitch.tv?
it’s TWITCH.TV it’s the most popular game streaming website in WORLD.
Even arenanet streams on it sometimes
I submit that twitch.tv isn’t popular.

GW2 isn’t interesting to watch.
Twitch can be misleading though, especially with old console games. You might think “WTF, Super Mario 64 has THAT many viewers?” but there’s a whole speed running community around old console games, and usually it’s 1 or 2 streams that are attracting all the viewers.
But back to the main point: GW2 isn’t interesting to watch.
What I don’t understand is why ArenaNet doesn’t wise up about how great Twitch is as an advertising platform to attract people to their game, go contact the Twitch guys, sign up for their API, and implement easy streaming built into GW2 like Call of Duty recently did. If anyone could just click a button while in game and instantly stream to Twitch, there would be a lot more streams.
Yet still. Guild Wars 2 isn’t interesting to watch.
Personalities have a lot to do with it too. Kripparrian was attracting a lot of viewers in the early weeks of GW2, but he stopped playing after his ban.
I still watch Kripparrian
He plays PoE now. Sux he got banned for mistakes of the devs.
All I see there are a list of games that have been out for way longer than GW2.
StarCraft 2: Heart of the Swarm is not even out yet
Black Ops 2 release date: Nov 2012
Path of Exile, still in Beta.
Borderlands 2 (2 weeks after GW2)

EDIT: I was watching kripparrian’s video again today. because there was some talk in the comments about him. this is what he said:
If you discover an exploit while you are streaming, you are permanently banned.
(this is what happened to him)
On top of that, it wasn’t even an exploit. He made 8 gold of 20K karma when the game was out for 5 days. You can’t know how much karma is worth by day 5.
And on top of that, you get only a 72 hour ban if you botted back then. (Stated by anet themselfs)
(edited by CoRtex.2157)
I see the doom and gloomers are out in full force. “Oh, it’s all over now. Oh, we’re totally excluded from this content. Oh, Anet sucks. Oh, Anet doesn’t listen. Oh, sPvP is totally ruined.”
What a joke. Try being less drama queens please – quitting a game you don’t pay for monthly that has given you 10x any content that a single player game can offer is laughable. Let me know when you try another MMO or go back to one. The grass ain’t greener and you’ll come crawling back.
But please, keep up the amusement.
We don’t need x amount of new content, we just need GOOOOOD content. Try another mmo? i’m playing GW1
cus that game rules, GW2, ugghhh
There are some updates missing from the notes. We are tracking down those, but some changes to the D/D and S/D ele build are in this patch despite not being in the notes.
Really, how do you people miss patch notes every time? Does anet their employees even know what they are working on? I really don’t understand how you can forget to put things in the patch notes.. It’s the most simple task u can do.
Really, as the first comment says, the game has hardly changed, so many bugs. And who the hell creates content, releases it, and you have to wait 3 days until you are able to play it. What the..??? Anet really has bad devs. Where is that GW1 logic? No grind, Awesome story, cool armors, well working economy, no bots, etc…
10 people is a very good size for a Tier 1 bounty mission.
<facepalm> so no thought about the small 2-5 man guild? It seems that the better game content is now exclusively for huge Zerg Guilds. My guild currently has 3 active members and we will not have a chance to play this premium part of the game until after the servers are turned off. And no, we are not buying gems to pay for influence to get the good stuff. <facepalm, laugh, shakes head>
and what about 1 man guild, we can continue to go down numbers like this. 10 active members is good number for this.
with this mentality everything will be done for solo group player, o wait this is already the case for 90% of the game: dungeons, fractals, spvp, group event. only wvw is for large guild and was pvp. now they add pve for large group this is fair and square.you are pretty selfish only thinking about your small scale guild, big guild wish to have fun in large group too and not only in wvw. Not everything should be designed for group size event. SHARE THE CAKE WITH OTHER, IF YOU CANNOT YOU ARE SELFISH
1. He’s talking about the influence to unlock the missions, a small guild can’t get so much influence to unlock it, so they are left out.
2. You are just making excuses mr. fanboy. Big guilds can also dungeons, fractals, blalblabla. They even have less problems to create a group because they have more members.
Conclusion: All-in-all, 10 people is not a zerg. It’s just, 10 people PVE guilds can’t unlock the missions on their own because the influence requirement is too high. It’s just sad.
Good post
i agree. They just should have made a follow up game for GW1. Instead of making a totally different new game.
