Since you shared that image, I decided to look closer and something doesn’t quite make sense.

It appears as though you unlock your weapon, then your first minor trait, then a tier 1 major trait and then… another minor trait? To make things stranger, it appears as though you would unlock all 3 minor traits before you even get your first utility skill!

If this is how the final release will play out, it’s gonna suck for revenants.

It pretty much means you can play the spec more completely a little faster since you get all the minors pretty quick.

Depends on your definition of “more completely”
Frankly, when it comes to the early stages of leveling up an espec, I’d much rather get a few of the utility skills sooner than the later minor traits. That means I actually have stuff to play around with as I unlock it.

For example: If the reaper had unlocked in the same fashion, we’d be in the situation where, "I can’t test out that sweet heal skill that makes me shout, ‘Your soul is mine!’ but at least my chill lasts longer. That’s cool I guess :/ "

There seems to be no rhyme or reason to the what generates what aggression

For most of the content, this is the correct answer, or at least, it feels like it. Apparently distance and the type of mob plays into account as well. There are a select few bosses in raids that have unique aggro mechanics though. For example, a specific attack that targets the furthest player from the boss, or an enemy that straight up targets the person with the highest toughness.

@devs please make more underwater content.

Underwater stuff is something I think should be used carefully, conservatively, and deliberately. I think when most people complain about underwater stuff, they’re thinking of Caledon Forest, the old Metrica Provence, and Honor of the Waves. In these small cramp areas, worrying about a z axis becomes a cluster kitten.

In Frostgorge Sound however, it’s awesome since you have this wide and deep area filled with stuff in both the upper levels and the floor that is a joy to explore.

So far, we haven’t had many maps that require you make use of an ocean (why focus on the ocean when we’ve got a volcano with skull faces?), so I think it’s good that the devs are waiting on a good moment to reintroduce underwater stuff.

hmm and here I thought the design philosphy of necromancer was, have what other classes have, but worse, and it costing you and arm and a leg to use it (figuratively and literally). seriously tho, I agree with where youre going with this the whole ‘victory at any cost’. The buff youre suggesting through sounds a lot like what druids have with grace of the land. But considering AN gave revenants alacarity, maybe down the line necros could get a similar skill to GotL.

Ya know what? Screw the revenant! Since day one of it’s reveal, it’s been stealing crap from other professions (pre-launch Mallyx and Herald shield) so now it’s our turn!

Lets make BiP an upkeep skill! Except instead of energy, you just pulse bleed to yourself.

So I said kitten it on my condi necro after the jagged horror nerf and decided to just run what I think is fun for open world. For gear and weapons, I follow the meta(except I use war horn instead of dagger), but for skills, I use spectral wall, ether epidemic or spectral grasp, suffer, and chilled to the bone. I also add damage to fear. You place a spectral wall in front of a group of enemies, use great sword 5, and entertainment ensues.

in Necromancer

Coffietire.2783

Necro is in a reeeeally weird place in the game right now, where they are essintial/dominate certain game modes (but under certain builds) yet are second to Revenant as the least desired class in others.
Here’s a list that should give you an idea of where Necros in general stand

  • Open world: Steamroll everything
  • Fractials: The ultimate group carrier
  • Raids: The ultimate group anchor
  • WvW: Awesome in groups, terrible when alone
  • PvP: See WvW

Still, I have no regrets playing and maining a necromancer for the majority of content since launch. If I want to raid, I just pop my guardian, if I want to pvp, I pop my thief.

I’d recommend that you save that 80 boost for an alt and after you have some experience with the Hear of Thorns maps. They are pretty brutal areas already if you’re just used to the core Tyria maps.

Also, if you plan on raiding, you’ll need that boost for an alt when you come to the realization that no one likes you.

How come no one considers the subject that raids are just really hard for most people? I mean, it’s easy to say they’re easy and it’s not hard to view clears on YouTube that make it look easy. In reality though, it can be tough to make progress when you’re just starting out and not a part of some prestigious guild with lots of support. A lot of guilds only raid once a week and only have time to clear 3 or 4 bosses with plenty of wipes in between.

Combine that with the shard limit, and I’d say that you earned that discounted ascended armor. Never mind the fact that, for most compositions, you’re going to want everyone in ascended weapons going in, so it’s more like another way to get your alts equipped, which you’re going to need to do to make progress in raids.

Yes, the gear really helps, however even beyond that people tend to list crazy requirements. 300+ LI for example. Even a new person can be competent at 50 or less for most bosses. It’s also rather silly how the raids exclude many out of them due to meta. I know I personally as a hammer guardian got kicked from a group for out dpsing some terribly bad Temps. They thought I had somehow hacked their dps meter to get into their group. It’s just breeding a very toxic environment.

Is it alright if I find your misfortune hilarious? I also normally use hammer guardian these days and when I switched to it from condi necro, my guild was shocked. You’d think more people would take a concept like, “lingering aoe on auto attack,” seriously.

This is why I suggest avoiding pugging for too long. I only pugged a few training runs before I came across a guild to do regular raids with. It’s nice to have a group to have discussions and open minds.

>The perception that raids are hard come from the raiding community’s inclusive environment.
>The inclusive environment comes from the requirements from the meta
>The current meta excludes a lot of good on paper builds, builds that are affordable, and even entire professions. Gearing up certain professions are more expensive/time consuming than others (gearing a warrior vs. gearing a mesmer)

So basically, profession balance is one of the major contributors as to why raids are hard to get into. If every profession could fit into a role that is affordable, able to acquire in a short amount of time, and can be well utilized in raids, we wouldn’t need an easy mode in the first place.

Raids aren’t meant to be something you can easily run daily, and most guilds dedicated to raids don’t have successful runs weekly.

It’s supposed to be something to spend time with your guild while partaking in a fun and challenging team building activity. Half the fun is just being with some friends and seeing if you can tackle the boss.

This is coming from someone who just started raids earlier this February. I literally just asked people in the Aerodome if they we’re doing training runs and if they could use a beginner… who was a condition necromancer.

I am currently close to completing t2 fractials (44) and I was just wondering how well a power necro is in higher tier fractals all the way to CM 100. If you have experience with those spicy gs buffs, I’d also like to know how those work in high tier fractals.

How I’d fix the necromancer

Keep it how it is and change the Guild Wars 2 launcher to include the Merriam-Webster definition of the word, viable.

That doesn’t fix necro because necro isn’t viable. Viable implies there is a reason to take it. There are no reasons to take necromancers. Everything we do is done better by other classes.

That’s why I suggested the Merriam-Webster definition and not the tryhard “I can be qT/ESL too!” definition.

a : capable of working, functioning, or developing adequately viable alternatives
b : capable of existence and development as an independent unit The colony is now a viable state.
c (1) : having a reasonable chance of succeeding a viable candidate (2) : financially sustainable a viable enterprise

I’ve done well in raids, WvW, and pvp on a necromancer, and so can you.

DPS meters "required" in LFG

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Coffietire.2783

Coffietire.2783

It’s simple why I’m talking about this. If you can’t tell you’ve messed up your rotation, then you are not paying attention. This is not Wow where you can have over 20 skills to think about using. You have 10. That’s it. 10 skills to use at the right order and remember to dodge. Why on gods green earth do you need a 3rd party program to know you messed up? You don’t really. People want DPS meters to point fingers. That’s all they are good for in GW2. Once you know your class and know the rotations, nothing changes. As long as your constant with your skill activations you can’t go wrong.

If for what ever reason you do mess up. You will know it. You really don’t need a DPS meter to tell you that unless you like to lie to your self.

While finger pointing sounds bad, with the state of the raid environment, it can actually be a good thing.

Currently, if a group is wiping constantly, its easy to blame the people who are not part of the four great professions (warrior, ele, mesmer, druid). Say the real reason is that the ele or warrior are messing up rotations and it’s the engineer who is actually trying hard to get everything right. Doesn’t matter, the group will lecture/kick the engineer and no real progress will be made.

While DPS meters aren’t the be all end all as an indication of how well a group is doing, it can help a lot.

My story on transitioning to raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Coffietire.2783

Coffietire.2783

As a regular raider, I also think vale Guardian is a more advanced boss. Sure it’s the one that we all banged our heads against when we started, but escort, and wing 4 Are so much better as introductory raids. When I killed VG finally, it had taken me three weeks to get that first kill. And another month or so for gorseval. Now I can one shot almost all raid encounters. The thing people don’t understand about raids, is that you have to take time to learn bosses, and you have to be willing to fail. With each failure you get better, you learn what not to do. So don’t expect to go in and get it in a few hours, or even a few days, but stick with it and you’ll get there.

I think VG is a great starter. It requires decent DPS but not as much as some other bosses so there’s room for not having perfect rotations or to make a few mistakes while still not letting you clear it with carrion longbow warriors or rabid greatsword necros. It teaches you the importance of positioning in the second and third phase since bad positioning can lead to a green circle spawning in a charged section. And it teaches you to deal with multiple mechanics at the same time as you have to deal with greens spawning, dodging blues, controlling seekers, and breaking his breakbar. Sometimes all at once. And the best part is, unless you’re running with a very good group that is capable of 6 manning it or something, everyone has to do their part. No one can just sit back, put out mediocre dps, fail mechanics and get carried. No one gets a carry, no one gets a free pass, everyone has to do their part.

But at the same time it’s also forgiving. Missing a green doesn’t necessarily mean everyone dies, you take a lot of damage sure, but people in down state can be brought up and the druid can heal you up. Getting caught in a blue is bad but you can heal yourself and run back to the group. Usually if you fail it’s because of multiple missed mechanics, and not just one.

I think if you have a group capable of killing VG, you have a group that can kill any raid boss with enough refinement in their execution of the things you learn at VG.

While I do agree with you, I think starting on a boss like this right off the bat is what discouraged a lot of non raiders. But you do make some good points, if you can handle g you can handle most bosses. The only ones I struggled a lot with after VG were sabetha and Matthias

That’s pretty reassuring, as I just beat VG and Goreseval with another group the other day. I really wasn’t interested in raids until W4 where those cool looking bosses are

There’s room for everyone in raids.

What needs to happen is following:

The players that prefer meta only members need to respect the groups that say “any welcome” and not try to force them to go meta or get upset when things don’t go smoothly if they’re PUGing with a “any welcome” group.

The players who don’t want to follow the meta for whatever reason need to respect the groups that say meta only and not join them and lie about it.

And since “any welcome” would accept meta builds, if there’s any confusion assume meta only and ask if you’re not if it’s alright if you run X.

Both groups need to respect each other.

^^^This!
On top of that, people need to be able to communicate and not just jump into a group and hope no one notices that somethings wrong. I’m a novice with only 3 legendary insights and no meta builds (working on a mesmer though). Every time I join a group, I state that fact to make sure everything is okay and I don’t waste anyone’s time, most of all mine.

What classes are being chosen most for Raids?

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Coffietire.2783

My advice: The best time to try pugs is usually late into the evening depending on your time zone (I do around 7pm Eastern US/CA). Usually that’s when a lot of more laid back guilds are just looking for people to help practice encounters.

Also, I know it sucks, but it is probably best to try and get a few different classes up to par, even just another 2 helps (and DH is fine, you probably just ran into a group who had enough dps). It can be very consuming at first, but the good news is, the more you do it, the quicker the process gets. Go get your main to do fractals frequently and soon enough, you start getting enough stabilizing whatchamacallits to get some ascended weapons for your other classes. I hear around t4, you start farting out ascended regularly.

My story on transitioning to raids

in Fractals, Dungeons & Raids

Posted by: Coffietire.2783

Coffietire.2783

TLDR: I stopped using LFG and browsing guilds to try and get into raids, and instead, just went out and talked to people about joining a group. My attitude towards raids went from salty to satisfying in about one hour.

To begin, recently Wooden Potatoes went on a rant the other day about how so many people are mad that a good story is attached to a raid. In a Reddit post showing this video, there are many replies that boil down to, “It’s hard to get into, raids are not accessible.” For the longest time, I considered myself part of this mindset. Here’s the Reddit post

Unlike these people, the video didn’t make me upset, but inspired me to consider reaching out more and changing my strategy when it comes to finding a group. Before then, I would just casually browse LFM from time to time, hoping that someone is requesting a condi necro/general dps, as that is my only character with both ascended weapons and jewelry, and at the same time, post on LFG requesting any wing. This strategy didn’t really work for me, as it seems that professions that are good at buffing are valued above all else. I also tried looking into other guilds, but I didn’t want to do anything that might compromise my ability to participate with my main guild.

Then, last night, I did something that most people who complain about raid accessibility would probably consider craaaaazy!

I simply went into the aerodome and typed in chat, “Anyone training new players in raids? I’m a condi necro who is willing to learn any wing. I have TS.” Immediately, I got several replies! The group I ended up joining didn’t even require TS, they used Discord, a communication tool that works right off your browser. We spent about an hour learning the first encounter in wing 3 and eventually, we finished it! It was no speed run, and we didn’t move on to other encounters in the wing, but it felt good to beat the escort and I met a lot of people along the way. If it wasn’t so late at night, we could’ve probably tried our hand at Keep Construct.

We didn’t clear the wing, but I don’t think that’s the point of raids when you’re just starting out.

I guess the point of my rambling is that I hope you all who are intimidated by raids can learn to approach it with an open mind. For the longest time, I was in the same camp as the rest of the casual player base, writing off raids as something for this exclusive club of teenagers and young adults with a lot of time on their hands and feeling left out when I learned that a good story was a part of raids.
Being a very shy person by default, making myself known in a random aerodome instance was a big deal for me and really took me out of my comfort zone. Despite my initial discomfort, I ended up having a lot of fun, even though my group really didn’t make it far. I will probably start spending more of my free time practicing raids while gearing up the rest of my characters.

In general, they really need to stop worrying about how many pieces might clip with other sets and start experimenting with entirely different base set ups with their armor ideas, I mean, we don’t even have a true wizard robe yet!(hint: make a cloth trench coat)

Also, to those MRAs getting triggered, calm your sacks! OP clearly stated they didn’t want to redesign existing armor. We already have plenty of armors in game to make your baby girl look like she’s in a fantasy themed porno because for some reason you take joy in others taking one look at you and think, “Yup, that’s a lonely/desperate person.”

Here’s my 2 cents as someone who has never raided but would totally do it if it we’re easier for someone who doesn’t have a lot of time to do start learning the ropes.

The Lion Guard makes a deal with Taimi and her crewe, the Lion Guard at the raid lobby are able to utilize her discovery of the simulation room in Rata Novus to present an approximation on how raid bosses are like. This means that you and 9 others can practice how a boss plays out as many times as you want without the hassle of spending hours organizing.

Because this is only a simulation and an approximation, the encounter will not include any achievements, mastery unlocks, or exclusive loot. This also means that enrage timers and certain attacks might not be present. This simulation is only a means to help players easily practice the basic mechanics of an encounter.

In order to hype up players into facing the actual encounters, I propose some extra restrictions.

  • You don’t actually get to see the boss in it’s full glory, just a wire frame only detailed enough to make out the shape and animations
  • Environments are also lacking in detail, think of something like in Tyria 3D
  • This may be pushing it, but how about the simulations for bosses in a specific wing are only unlocked after the real wing has been cleared a certain number of times in your server’s region

Curious why more people don't PvP or WvW

I don’t pvp as much because I made the horrible decision to making my main a necro, whose really fun in fractials but not so much in pvp. My second character is a guardian whom I guess I can play pvp as, but then I’d feel like a tryhard scrub.

Can we raise Aurene to be evil?

When all the Elder Dragons are dead, 1/2 the magic will be consumed by Aurene and the other 1/2 will be consumed by another egg that houses Tequatil’s legacy. The commander now takes on the role of a concerned parent whose young adult daughter, being formerly obedient and good natured, is now coying over the new bad boy in town. You yell at Aurene, scolding her for considering companionship with such rebellious youth over the nice and hard working jungle wurm next door you’ve been trying to hook her up with since her junior year in high school.

Alas, your attempts only push her further away from you and closer to her new boyfriend. She leaves home without notice and travels across the content with Teq. Jr. with nothing but a run down dragon truck and the young ley energy coursing through their… whatevers.

Several years go by and you wave your fist in anger as that jungle wurm from earlier graduates to become a successful consortium ambassador for the Caledon Forest region while that drop out Teq. Jr. seriously thinks he can support Aurene and their two kids (they’re not even married!) with a tattoo parlor he started in the new norn settlements in The Far Shiverpeaks.

The Wintersday that year is awkward, as you agreed to have it at their place, the first time you’ve seen Aurene since that day she walked out. You’re initially disgusted at run down property, the budget food being served for dinner, and the fact that your grand kids only got refurbished Ventari plushies for gifts. You think to yourself, “How can Aurene possibly be happy with this!? She was raised in a city made out of kittening gold!”

After dinner, Aurene asks if she can talk to you while Teq. Jr. plays with the kids. “Look, I know this isn’t what you were expecting I would be at when you pampered me in Tarir all those years,” she says in a slightly guilt ridden tone. “You were expecting me to grow up to be some sort of savior of Tyria that the entire world looks up to and will remember for eternity. That I would live up to and surpass the expectations my biological mother set before me, but this just feels so right.” She turns away to face the living room where Teq. Jr. and the kids are laughing and playing, “I know this doesn’t look perfect to you and definitely not to those stuck up exalted, but I am genuinely happy here.”

Swallowing your pride, you begin to understand. All those years you thought you we’re training Aurene to be Tyria’s hope, to make a peaceful golden age in one fell swoop. Instead she only came to better understand the precious value of everyday life, warts and all, and dreamed of being able to being joy one step at a time to others and herself. To be one of many of us who watch out for each other as a community and as a family. You cannot speak a single word with out struggling to hold back tears, but you don’t have to, because Aurene can read your mind. You both simply walk out to the living room to join the rest of the family, with you as now a better more understanding person.

Yo Anet, this one’s on me, but let me know if you want to hire me for future LS.
