The way I see it, if you’re a berserker (or any class really) who insists on focusing on interrupts and good CQC, you are now intentionally designing your build to counter reapers. That’s the reality of a competitive game with a big emphasis on RPG mechanics, a sort of soft version of rock paper scissors.

If you want to survive the berserker, put some range in your build, stick to base necro, or equip blighter’s boon and buy a guardian slave (or form a team if you’re the reasonable type).

On the issue of stun breakers, with both the staff and off-hand dagger equipped, you may have enough condi cleanse to get away with switching suffer with you’re all weaklings.

Anyways, here is my idea of a great sword variant, it’s basically Nemesis’ old hybrid necromancer build with some changes to traits (obviously) and skills.
http://gw2skills.net/editor/?vRAQNBhWD7kGRodTscTwzGgeTsUMYx7wh4SkqJMFuVRBgvVBA-TliEABefQAO4IAA3+Dto+DwaG6+CAAoSQAeAAYp8bDdAAA-w

I’m not that good at deciding optimal sigils and runes myself, so I just placed ones that are fun to use. (fact: sigil of mischief works with chilling darkness, it’s like the sigil was made for us!)
Warhorn is just a personal preference, off-hand dagger will be just fine.
I think with hybrid builds, reaper’s onslaught would work better once they get it working properly while deathly chill is best for pure condis. However, in group fights, we shouldn’t rule out blighter’s boon regardless of the build.

I feel that the great sword AA would work better if it had some sort of back up plan like the guardian hammer AA does. Despite having the same weakness, guardian AA has symbol of protection to back up its easy to miss strike.

Perhaps instead of the burst of chill, the 3rd skill in the great sword’s AA chain could leave behind a small field (no bigger than symbol of protection) that does short but constant chill applications (think about how burning is applied when you step into lava).

This means that if your opponent insists on going toe to toe, they will be perma chilled no matter how many condi removals they have. As soon as they step out of that field, the chill will not last much longer.

This further reinforces the idea that the reaper with a great sword is meant to be kited while still strengthening the great sword’s utility

DISCLAIMER! The gear stats in this build are not recommended, it’s just what I had at the time: http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-30;3kHVB004BIkJ0;9;4A79;0148136258;4K-X4V;9;0FSVHP7Q

The other night, I literally just mishmashed these skills together to try and make a build that could carry a 4 person story dungeon with the gear I have. The idea was to have some good weakness up time so my friends who haven’t gotten too into dodge rolling at the right time wouldn’t go down so fast.

What I noticed from this set up is that you seem to be able to just pile conditions no matter what weapon set up you have on you. It’s a high variety of conditions too, which means that if I had a scepter equipped, skill 3 should hit like a truck.

Blood magic is only there because I was in a 4 person group, it was TA story mode, and one person was 3 levels below the recommended. If you are alone or with a more composed group, I recommend spite over blood magic.

Again, this is just something I cobbled together last minute to attempt to be a support person for my friends new(ish) to the game. I would not recommend taking it as I have shared it now, but totally try it out with different gear stats and maybe replace staff with scepter+dagger.

How I see it is that MMOs are some of the most expensive games to develop and maintain, so $50 for an expansion does not seem too unreasonable base game or not, especially when they are relying on nether a subscription fee or an aggressive cash shop. Including the base game in their price tag indirectly helps veteran players as the new users are on a similar page as us, so we are not completely separated. As soon as they are 80, they can jump into the new content and we can teach them the ropes, helping us out.

There is no denying that it is more economically sensible to wait out as long as you can to get the best deal, but does someone really want to waste possibly several years waiting for the ideal opportunity when they can be enjoying the very thing they want now?

I agree, if we get yet another city attacked shortly (like in the same year) after LA just got done rebuilding, it would seem as canned as those “shocking moments” Call of Duty does ever since Modern Warfare. I would say however that if it can be presented in a way that is appropriate, it would be a good way to introduce us to the second expansion.

So yeah….purchasing gw2 actually works out economically to be exponentially more beneficial to the consumer the longer they don’t purchase it.

If you were to take this path, then would you even end up ever playing the game? I feel like the more we dig in to this situation, the more we lose sight of what we actually want.

Yes we can see this model as being anti veteran and yes, there is no doubt that the longer you’re playing this, the more we are paying as opposed to a newbie. But also understand that this model is a small price to pay for playing a premium MMO, using up real resources used to keep the game running. Also, consider that this more new user friendly model is putting us on the same page as them.

I mean, if you find a new friend who did not hear about this game or was on the fence because they didn’t know anyone else who played it (a HUGE incentive when considering a social game), you don’t have to tell them to buy two separate products just so you two can play the same content.

ahem
OMGOMGOMGOMG!!!!!!!!!!!!!! First post to necro forums got me a dev response and them a post about my post got a dev response WEEEE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!EE!!!!!!!!!!!!!!

ON TOPIC!

Clarification: the only thing that was changed was that you can’t use “Spectral Walk” in air. You can still use “Spectral Recall” which is the skill that returns you to your original location. This means you can still use Spectral Walk, jump off a cliff and teleport back.

What you can’t do is jump off a cliff, double tap Spectral Walk (and then Spectral Recall) just before hitting the ground to nullify falling damage.

Thank you for this clarification. As soon as it was mentioned that HoT maps had a more vertical focus and required gliders, I was concerned that this use of spectral walk would make gliding 1/2 useless and just make me look like a cheeky jerk (although I will miss showing off to friends when I lead them down a murder fall only to revive them).

I do however appreciate that I will still be able to use this trick partially to confuse them hammer types who knock me off a murder fall only to come back up and fear them off >:)

Whining people into giving you what you want is a terrible thing.
The necro forums are probobly the most negative proffession forums on here and I dont think it is because necromancer is so bad now but because early on necros had alot of bugs that did not get fixed for a long time so that created a very toxic enviorment.
The necro forums are probobly the least looked at by the balancers because of how extreamly unreasonable most people here seem to be.

Honestly I didn’t start playing necro or coming to this forum until recently. Nothing here looks unreasonable at all. TBH the most unreasonable things are some of these patch notes. If necro has a rep for being the most negative forum, I would say it probably isn’t the fault of the necro community.

I posted a thread about maybe a year ago about spectral walk. It was about us being able to survive any drop with the skill and whether or not it was an exploit that could get me banned and if I should report it. Got a friendly dev response saying it is not an exploit.

Dev got immediately attacked by other posters because of a previous patch that fixed a bug where necros would survive any drop if they used death shroud.

I’d say we’re at least some of the fault.

Consider this, this is the first time Arena up right demanded money for content for years and it is the same price as WoW did for its first expansion minus a subscription.

Also, if you want to push sales for newcomers, imagine trying to sell your product by saying, “Hey! Come buy this new and exciting thing we are selling! BTW, you’ll have to fork over another $50 for this as well though.”

I see this as less of ripping off existing consumers and more about convenience for new players. $50 for an MMO expansion is nothing new or unreasonable.

Getting a better deal by waiting is also a recent practice that is common with the countless GOTY and “definitive” editions of games releasing years after initial release and GW2’s own anniversary sales.

You act like they couldn’t have done pleased both markets ?

You already own the game great the cost is discounted at the end of purchase.

You dont, well you pay the listed price.

It’s not a hard concept for them to implement. Or heck how about a second functioning base game key for those that already have the game…..

But everyone is jumping to the conclusion that the expansion isn’t worth $50. They want you to pay $50, the base copy is just a freebee for congratulating new players for their new interest and making said purchasing easier. We already got our reward, that is being 1-3 years ahead of them.

Tested the other heals in a couple PvP matches, they just plain suck. Necro has no healing skill anymore. How far are they willing to go, to cripple a class…

I’m talking about what the other heals will be.

Well of Blood is meant for backline necromancers who stay in a safe spot in the first place. Its about supporting your allies as much as supporting yourself. With the new vampiric rituals trait, this becomes more evident. You gain extra healing while your allies gain protection.

Blood fiend is for minion masters. From what I have seen, they aren’t that useless already and some old minion traits are becoming baseline.

Signet of vampirism’s active effect will heal in shroud. In death shroud, a fear + transfusion should give you plenty of opportunity to land some hits during this time, as well as allies. (remember, this game isn’t balanced around 1v1, the only thing necromancer is good at this moment in sPvP) With reaper shroud, well… reaper’s onslaught.

Your soul is mine + siphon in death shroud sounds awesome!

Those quick mentions to the traits at the end of my post was to signify that we are getting more defensive and offensive options for removing conditions across multiple trait lines, making us more options when we are immobalized + low on health. Currently, consume conditions and putrid mark(clunky) are the only things most necromancers bring to that situation.

In defense of the consume conditions nerf

in Necromancer

Posted by: Coffietire.2783

Coffietire.2783

I always thought that the current state of consume conditions was actually what was holding us back. As potent as it is, it made us extremely predictable in pvp, if you didn’t have that floating sack of guts hanging around, chances are, you had consume conditions. They could have just done a straight forward nerf that lessened how much each condition healed or only apply to damaging conditions, but they didn’t!

Now consume conditions is as potent as we like it, but with a nerf that is less about straight number changes and more about demanding player skill. Between this, the changes to vampiric wells, and the buff to signet of vampirism, we now have four heals meant for distinct builds.

Condi classes have tons of opportunities to transfer conditions, so this vulnerability nerf is a minor set back at best and damaging to unskilled players at worst. If you spec for corruptions anyways, this could be considered a buff.

Well of blood is now the go to for WvW well bombers. I feel that not many people appreciated how much the new vampiric wells trait + targeted wells being baseline made this skill so much more viable! Good well bombers have always been the ones to stay away from danger in the first place, so consume conditions was more of a safety net anyways.

For my fellow power death shroud necromancers, signet of vampirism or “your soul is mine” is now our go to heals! I’m thinking of so many possibilities with our new and improved skill that was once useless! Will we combine it with unholy sanctuary to focus more on passive heals plus that sexy new double the power in death shroud trait? Or will we combine it with blood magic to focus more on active healing while striking as well as all those new support traits?

other things you should pay attention to regarding defense against conditions
-our new spiteful renewal
-plague sending
-our new shrouded removal (combine this with the new speed of shadows!)
-necromatic corruption
-corruptors fervor
-relentless pursuit!!

I think with an extra 5 seconds and some vulnerability, consume conditioners will be fine!

It’s unacceptable how hard countered necromancer is against any good ranged character. We should have some sort of counter move in our toolkit. Something, anything, doesn’t even have to bee good, just has to exist.

With well targeting becoming baseline, we can now have a free spot for chilling darkness. Cast well of darkness over a pew pew ranger and they will have to waste something or become content with being a sitting duck.

The two blank slots for utilities will be for “You are all weaklings” and “suffer” while the blank weapon slot is for a berserker great sword. The reason I went against staff is because I figure I needed a quicker ranged weapon to offset reaper shroud and the great sword, plus feast of corruption hits like a truck even with minimal power investment. The idea behind well of darkness is that with chilling darkness and the warhorn, I can cast locust swarm and wod in quick succession to stack up might while chill also deals damage. I feel that with our new found chill abilities, rune of Grenth provides perfect synergy with our condi builds.

The only thing I struggled with in building this is the gear stats. If anyone has any suggestions on those, I would love it if you gave some feedback.

No, the point of taking Blood Magic is for well CD reduction and Protection to allies on cast. The siphons are an irrelevant bonus. That’s also why you go for Ritual of Life: synergy with Vampiric Rituals (more Protection and healing for your zerg).

Why Transfusion instead of Vampiric Precision? I don’t know, how about the fact that Transfusion doesn’t suck horribly and is actually good team support?

Ritual of Life: not that usefull because, how often will you revive somebody in the middle of combat? Unless you already won the fight and are rezzing the dead, but in this case you wont’t be the only one rezzing. Or doing a mass rez on somebody near combat, which doesn’t happen that often, in my expierience.

Transfusion: its a nice trait, it’s just that I personally think it’s not that viable. I mean, the base healing is not that good in my opinion. And for it to be viable as a heal, you have to take gear with Healing Power, in which you will be sacrificing too much DPS for a single skill to be kind of viable.

I get that he went into Blood Magic for the grandmaster well trait, which is really good! Its just that the rest of the trait line is so …. meh. I can see that he’s taking the more usefull traints in the line, but in my opinion going into blood magic just for the grandmaster is a bit too much of waste, because the other trait lines offer better options, imho.

You got me here. That new grand master trait is a whopping 3 old traits merged into one. I figured since we are forced to go all the way into our traits, I may as well put them grand masters into higher consideration. Since targeted wells are now baseline (for now) and traits no longer grant stat bonuses, I figured that curses are no longer relevant in the well build and death magic might be more useful. With unholy sanctuary plus vampiric rituals, you are now regenerating a little bit of health weather you drop wells in death shroud or not. There is also deadly strength which now doubles your power when in death shroud, synergizing well with death perception and buffing our well+death shroud burst.

I can understand your need for reapers precision, but I figured that, in a zerg battle, you’re gaining tons of life force from bodies whether you are winning or losing not to mention NPCs getting in the cross fire (rip bunnies).

I figure that now that we must fully commit to three trait lines over mixing things up, we all got to revisit our old builds and how these new rules change how they operate.

So let’s pretend for a moment that while a necromancer with that fancy new great sword and elite specializations are all fine and dandy, but for those who don’t own the expansion, or maybe because there is still a demand for it, they want to fall back on our good old wellomancer WvW build. Let’s also assume that the current information on the new trait reworkings is at least similar to the final release.

With the rework on traits and ground targeted wells being baseline, here is the best I could come up with recreating the wellomancer. I must say, the result is a much more versatile build

What is everyone’s opinions on what I’ve managed to make? Any changes that you would make to this? What other traditional builds can be seen as drastically improved/unimproved that you can think of?

Edit: Url is being a tad funny, you have to copy and paste the whole url to see what was made.

We will gain a new minion, the flesh cannon! A minion consisting of a cannon shaped head, little tiny legs, and big strong arms able to carry even a norn effortlessly, all with a texture similar to the flesh wurm or flesh golem.
On it’s own, the flesh cannon shoots spooky looking rocks that explode, damaging foes and granting might to nearby allies.
When activated, the flesh cannon grabs the necromancer that summoned it, loads her/him into it’s cannon-like mouth and launches it across the entire map, evading all attacks and reflecting all projectiles along the way.
For good measure, you also gain stability and vigor upon landing.
There! I just fixed everything wrong with the necromancer with one skill while still keeping the necro theme alive!

I’m going to nongendersracecreedspecificcot it. I don’t want to leave anyone out of my cotting.

Why does cotting sound like something that would get you in trouble for saying in grade school?

and if you DON’T want to level the boring way by clicking a bunch of books while your character stares at the poor banker with dead eyes, this might be a rare case where a condi build might be your best option for killing in the open world. Then again, we have to see weather or not the revenant will have a good power melee weapon.

While it’s safe to assume that most of the meta events will be all war torn and stuff, the idea of the adventures being more peaceful and featuring a story of sort is not totally out of the question.

Necro vs Every class?

Ok, power necromancers are a different beast than condition necromancers, which are a different beast than minion masters.

Condition Necromancers beat: Other condition classes, zerker , elementalists

Condition necromancers lose to: Pew Pew Rangers, Warriors, turret & grenade engineers, PU mesmers, condition removing guardians, all big team fights,.

Power Necromancers beat: turret engineers, non-hammer warriors, elementalists

Power Necromancers lose to: Rangers, grenade engineers, Thiefs, any big team fights, mesmers, hammer or berzerker warriors, anybody with a lot of stuns (and lich is useless against anybody with a ready boon strip)

Minion masters lose to: Anybody with AoE (and almost everybody has AoE)

For your statement on power necros vs rangers and thieves, I agree when you’re out IF. Otherwise, both AOE DS skills counter stealth and spectral armor/walk = a clunky endure pain alternative for rapid attacking foes.

As for OPs concern about CC, yes it is harder to counter compared to most classes, it all comes down to what you should dodge. I’m learning this class by class and for now, I know that if you can dodge a hambow’s opening strike, you can pretty much win.

dear Revenants, stay out of Maguuma

What I read was:

Please instant level to 20 then use 60 tomes of knowledge to instantly level to 80, have no equipment or gear prepared up, and head on out to Maguuma instantly and sit around and let others do the hard work for me.

pssh! forget that! just go in at level 10 with full precise gear. Enemies may be a little challenging at first, but wp costs will be cheap at that level.

Sadly necro may not be my main ;(

While I am sure the revenant will have more weapons that solve these problems, the fact remains that having a ether a slow long range power weapon or a short range condition weapon THAT YOU CAN’T SWAP plus mid level hp means that both condi and power necros should be able to eat the class alive once we know what to dodge.
