Some good ideas are Howler, Flames of War, Twilight, or Nevermore.

My advice though, I don’t recommend you do what I did and go for a legendary that only benefits one of your characters, I got Howler as my first (and currently only) legendary but my necro is the only class I have that can use it DX.

Scourge Support (I have my fingers crosed)

Coffietire.2783

Well, let’s see. Scourge offers:

Barrier – not wanted
Strength – heavily contested
Healing – lol.

One thing to remember is that there will be people with PoF but not HoT, which means that there will be players who don’t have druid, berserker, or chronomancer.

This means the raid developers would be wise to balance encounters based on the assumption that players don’t have access to HoT elite specs, or more interestingly, possibly counter some HoT elite specs.

Coffietire.2783

By simply my observation as someone who never played support in this game, it seems like firebrand would be the safest option. My reason being that scourge grants allies might while firebrand grants allies quickness and the new ashes of the just buff, which I can see being more desirable from a support stand point. However, we will never know how certain skills will synergize with certain encounters until we get some new raids.

For now, I’d say your best bet is to hoard crafting materials (most importantly, lumps of mithrillium, globs of elder spirit residue, and spools of thick elonian cord) so that you can be ready to gear up any character. Hoarding the living world season 3 currencies for ascended trinkets wont hurt ether.

I chuckled because in his recap of the elite specs, Wooden Potatoes mentioned that scourge will probably need toned down. Meanwhile, that same video contains footage of him dropping a sand shade down on a player trying to resurrect their teammate and does nothing about it.

However, I can see the need of better visual cues for the sand shade skills, particularly with sand shroud. If you wear a reapers hood and dye your entire armor black, it can really do some unintended mind games with your opponent when it comes to figuring out if you’re in sand shroud or not, essentially weaponizing Fashion Wars 2.

I reeeeally like the new epidemic for one big reason.

The conditions that spread on targets is determined by the conditions on the parent target at the time the projectiles hit, not when the skill is finished casting.

This means that now, you can cast epidemic in anticipation for a condition bomb instead of when the conditions are already on the parent target. This means that if used well, the change actually solves the age old problem of epidemic, enemies getting condition bombed and dieing before epidemic is done casting.

Banners and PS simply need nerfing. They’re way too good a boost for how little investment they require.

why do they need nerfing?
do you want to make warriors absolete?
are you trying to make enemies here?

While banners are fine, PS really needs the nerf. So long as PS is the way it is, all attempts to grant might sharing to other specs will become null.

Don’t worry, you could change PS to “granting yourself might grants sugar rush to nearby allies” and warrior would still be meta.

Any group that isn’t 100% utterly and irredeemably terribly awful at the game doesn’t do greens on VG nor updrafts on Gors. No one should get hit by teleports on Cairn either.

I never beat Cairn, but I have been in multiple scenarios where my group would constantly fail at trying the “no updraft” method on Gorseval only to try updrafts once and beat it no sweat.

Coffietire.2783

To address your life force concerns, I can see condi dps scourge using the staff with soul marks (we want dhumfire so why not?). The idea is that you use mark of blood and chilibans to get some life force, work your corruption magic, cast putrid mark, quickly swap to scepter and use feast of corruption. You should have enough life force at this point to do what you need to do, but if not, we have dessicate, which just says, “Have some life force and give your allies might.”

As for the in shroud traits, remember that a good necromancer never camped in shroud anyways. Yeah it’s now on a 20 second cooldown, but now it comes with a devastating pulsing attack that inflicts torment (burning).

Stating the obvious? Let me put it another way.

Standard POF $49.99 + Free GW2

New & Returning Players Get: (Non-HOT Purchasers)
*New Class
*Level Boost

Standard POF $49.99
Standard HOT $49.99
Standard GW2 $59.99
$159.97 5yr Investment. (Excluding deluxe & Gem purchase)

Veteran Players Get:
*Level Boost (By now some of may have 9 or more Characters at 80) Useless.

You can always use the boost with a level 80 character to get alternative benefits.

And when you say 5 year investment, I hope you mean investment on Anet’s part as they allow a broke kitten like me who only buys $20 USD in gems maybe once or twice a year to enjoy their great resource intensive online game at a fraction of what other nerds pay for their inferior MMO of choice :P

Back when the whole “every class can do every role” hype was strong, I decided that my main, a necromancer, would be a healer.

  • I picked traits that seemed healer-like (Trait investment used to have a fee attached to it)
  • I went for gear that had healing power
  • I picked runes and sigils that complemented healing power
  • My first full exotic set was all magi
All of this was a result of work spanning from the game launch until LW Season 1.

Then one day, I decided to switch to berserker gear and finally realized why everyone was complaining about the game being too easy.

Considering there are still HP trains being organized in HoT maps 2 years later, I don’t see expensive unlocking as a problem.

Is this considered a macro?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Coffietire.2783

First off, I would like to point out that until Guild Wars 2, I’ve never really gotten involved with high level play in an MMO, so I will admit that I don’t fully understand the definition of a macro. I just know that they are not allowed in Guild Wars 2.

With that out of the way

I’ve been enjoying playing Guild Wars 2 with the Steam Controller since last December, it can be really comfortable once you get a button configuration that works for you. While I made a configuration that works great for me, there is one thing bothering me about it.

You see, the Steam Controller has a special function with it’s trigger buttons, you can have a soft pull and a hard pull do two different things. So I made the soft pull my weapon skill 1 and a hard pull my weapon skill 2. I am just wondering if this is technically a macro and if I am breaking the rules.

Further more, during the PoF beta, we get a new hotkey, which means another thing I should assign to the controller. Normally I have the esc menu assigned to the start button, and for the demo, I set the start button to mount if I hold it down for a few seconds. I’m wondering if that is also considered a macro.

I can see axe + dagger working with scepter + torch.

You start the fight with axe with ghastly claws to work up some life force (and a few bleeds with barbed precision), followed by your corruptions + deathly swarm combo.

You immediately switch to scepter and use feast of corruption to build up more life force and you’re now ready to work your shade magic.

When you’ve used your life force a bit and your corruptions are off cooldown, switch back to axe and do it all over again.

While I don’t quite understand your concern with weakening shroud (we’re getting a lot more ways to corrupt boons) I can understand death perception and foot in the grave not working really well.

However, I think that’s the point, the Scourge doesn’t look like a spec intended to be a bruiser or power dps. Life force is now essentially mana, giving us a more traditional mage glass cannon with some unconventional support.

Much like how Dragon Hunters have a harder time exploiting absolute resolution, I think we are going to have to come to terms with the fact that not every trait works well with every spec.

Luckily, switching traits hasn’t been a chore since mid 2014.

Coffietire.2783

As a Guild wars 1 player…. When I joined GW2… I LOATHED Death shroud. I Despised it. I hated what it represented, I wished it would be removed and their mechanic would be worked into something not so horrible. Especially since it was a shadow of its former self compared to the Beta at the time.

I have since learned to like it but only after reaper came out and even then I’m still fairly lukewarm to the mechanic since I still can’t have utility in shroud. But now with Scourge, it seems they’re going into a direction with this elite that I’ve always wanted it to be. And that Scares me…

If I hated shroud so much why should it scare me? Because there is evidence that they wont balance it properly. That Desert shroud will be were all of the shroud abilities will be dumped on which would be horrible and kill the elite spec for me. My hope is that they shift the focus from “In shroud” to “Spending life force” to give it a dual function with turtling in shroud and the bursty effect of the Scourge’s life force spending. This is my hope as shifting focus from shroud turtling to life force spending opens up a tone of doors for future elite specs while simultaneously having no negative effect on the core profession and Reaper.

On the flip side, with desert shroud getting most (probably not all) of those effects, you’re now getting them while still having access to your weapons, heal, condi cleanse, stun breakers, the works. With all shade skills activating a second attack, it’s safe to assume that reapers might and dhumfire will trigger with every skill you use. It’s also safe to assume that path of corruption will be assigned to the second skill, essentially turning it into a more aggresive version of mesmer’s null field.

Life Force stays, but Shroud does not. The new F2-F5 skills cost Life Force to use.

F5 actually is a sand shroud you enter for 7s and that will trigger all shroud traits that rely on entering/being in shroud. You dont use life force as hp though

Except its on a 20s cd, which kinda guts the “on entering shroud” traits -.-

It lasts for 6 seconds, and these days, I usually don’t stay in shroud for more than 10 unless I’m focused hard. The fact that you keep your utilities, weapon skills, and access to healing in sand shroud, I feel it’s a good trade off.

Is Scourge worth losing shroud?

in Necromancer

Posted by: Coffietire.2783

Coffietire.2783

Keep in mind all regular skills (except greatsword and shouts) should be available outside of shroud for counterplay.

Scourge might still be very dependant on stacking with a dedicated healer and boon-sharer. I have a hard time imagining a raid slot in Shaman equipment with Curses, Blood Magic, and Scourge.

Celestial would also be a decent stat for Scourge, if you build around it with runes and food, you can still hit 1500 condi damage no worries with 26k health and 650 Healing Power. Plus the other stats like 1700 power, 2600 armor and 35% crit, thrown in for good measure.

You do realize that Burning is the highest damage condition in the game right? Bleeding, the next strongest, deals just slightly more than 1/3 the damage per tick of burning. So a 3sec ICD on an effect that applies burning makes perfect sense when compared to a similar effect that has no ICD and applies Bleeding.

Not to mention, this trait will also increase torment by 33%.

I did some math and with this trait, at base condition damage, on a stationary target, torment will do ~21 damage persecond, just shy of bleed’s base damage. Remember, torment’s damage DOUBLES when the target is moving.

So for those that don’t know, Deathly Chill will be nerfed upon the release of PoF but Reaper will be buffed significantly. So we will basically be getting Scourge as our condi/support spec, and Reaper as our power spec.

So, as a condi Reaper who spent a lot of time/gold getting full ascended Viper stats it’s a big FU…got it.

So glad I didn’t preorder…

Two things you can do
1) Convert your ascended viper gear to power gear
2) Power through high level fractals and/or WvW like a crazy person to get both power and condi gear

Trust me when I say your first full ascended set will be your hardest, it gets easier from there.

Edit: I doubt the nerf will make deathly chill useless. The sheer fact that you can use two skills to stack tons of chill, bleed, and poison at once is what makes it so OP.

+1 to leveling up your first character the old fashioned way.

If you use your 80 boost now, you’ll get overwhelmed with a ton of features and UI elements that become slowly relevant if you level up the normal way.

Not to mention, you get a reward chest for every level up, which you can only open one at a time and contains stuff relevant to that level. If you use it now, you’ll have to go through the process 80 times and your inventory space will clog up fast.
