he’s confusing kites from wvw players and bags.
wvw players drop both bags and kites, not kites from bags.
They drop from bags. (Not sure if they even drop from the players themselves)
I’d love to see Rifles for Thieves. A off-hand torch might be interesting too.
She might have a chance. While I think people here on the forums might favor Evon, I think the overall populace will favor Kiel.
I use the waypoints to teleport back to Lion’s Arch anyway. Heck, I use waypoints to teleport just 10 feet at times. A reduction in cost means a lot to me since I already use waypoints pretty extensively.
Evon is offering cheaper keys, which is something that I absolutely have no interest in. Now that’s something I have little use for that I have lived without.
It matters, but we all pretty much know exactly what happened at the Mouth of Torment.
Nobody knows what happened at Thaumanova…yet.
Exactly.
And while a god may seem like a big deal, we already know how they work. No one has figured out how reality has basically torn itself apart at the reactor.
It’s been getting pretty crazy over on SoR, but that’s probably because we’re one of the bigger servers. Seems like I’m usually tossed into an overflow server if I happen to go to Queensdale.
It’s probably a good thing that a couple of the catchers are a bit more subdued. I’ve been running the Wind Catcher for the last day, and while it was neat at first, I’m starting to feel a bit visually fatigued.
Hmm.
What if it was free waypoint use?
If Colin says to vote for Evon, I have to suspect some ulterior motive.
Keil knows what the common people need. Evon only knows what he can take.
Oh. I like the rucksack….though it’s a bit bulky….
Because it needs to be done.
I would really like to know what happened at the Reactor. Especially because a few conversations by the inquest sounds like they really don’t know either.
I’ve done the supply event 3 times in a row and no aetherblades have attacked.
You have to hang around for about 10 minutes after that event completes. It doesn’t trigger right after.
Yeah….
I’m not a fan of crab toss. Isn’t there some other game we could choose?
I don’t think it actually started triggering until the second or third day. It’s based off of finishing that one supply event, and that was basically impossible to complete at first.
There’s nothing to say they couldn’t make other powerups affect people behind you. Some of the “AOE” attacks affect all the racers.
Gust/Gale by the way actually can be pretty powerful because it’s stronger version has an immediate knockdown, and that will affect someone lightning jumping too. Best of all, it’s completely unpredictable, as it just hits immediately without warning.
FYI: The LightSpeed/Checkpoint ability is a defensive/buff powerup, so I don’t really count it in this.
What I hate are the traps placed in areas that are guaranteed to knock you off and set you back, sometimes a lot. I don’t use the traps against other players. I know they are in the game by design but personally I see them as the cheap way to win. When I run a race and there are few or no traps, I enjoy the race no matter where I place. When I run a race and there is trap after trap set to knock you off a platform, I want to slap someone and I feel very hostile towards the rest of the players. I don’t say anything but it reminds me of the competitive jerks that hit people in the throat with their elbow when the ref isn’t looking.
Traps are, just like in Mario Kart and similiar games, only useful for extending your lead. And yes, there are brutally mean places to put them. But that is the game and how it is played.
Remember that you still can see the false power-ups and you can activate your Grounded skill to avoid getting affected by them. Which you should. And it is easy to tell the false ones. They’re the ones that are in odd places.
Yes and no?
Getting a fake powerup in Mario Kart is a bit more rare, since there’s shells and other things to get as well. In the Sprint, 1-3 place all get fake powerups. Fake powerups in Mario Kart aren’t usually as bad either, since they can rarely be placed where the player has to repeat large sections of the race.
They can be seen, but it can be difficult when moving quickly across the race. And in some places they can’t be avoided at all before you’re right on top of them (Lighting Jumps). Or if someone puts it right next to you while racing, since they become active immediately. Grounded is the best way to deal with them in my experience, but you do have to keep going out of your way to pick that up. And it’s possible to use up one grounded on a bomb, and then find another bomb before you get another.
They’re just a little too strong to give to the 1st place player every single powerup. Remove the knockdown, replace it with an immobilize, and remove the powerup removal. And then mix in some blinds for the 1st – 3rd places to pick up.
Well, I did just forfeit a win to someone else, and they were extremely grateful. (Almost too grateful!). They had got every achievement so far but first, which says to me that they’ve put in a lot of time into the race. If someone is going to run 25 races, I figure they’ve more than earned the title. Especially in the case where if I hadn’t been there, they may have indeed won 1st without any help. (I suppose I do make things a little easier for them by not spamming bombs everywhere, like some people do.)
But it is nice that some people appreciate others giving them a turn.
Interesting. If I had known, I probably would have bought some gems. But I didn’t know, so I didn’t. And I don’t think I will on the chance that I just might get a free gift in the future. If I buy gems, it will be for something I really want.
That said, the kites are pretty awesome, and I might look into getting one.
Players: “So if they didn’t want us to use food in Belcher’s Bluff then why are the belcher kits sold in taverns, right next to the food?”
ANet: “Dudes. This was obviously not intended. We have a history of forgetting this sort of thing when implementing mini-games. No more food buffs for you.”
Players: “Oh, okay. We should probably remember this next time.”
Pretty much how I view it. There’s been enough of these oversights in the past that something like this could easily be viewed as another oversight.
However, the description of what the OP presented WOULD make me want to follow “Ser Whiner” guy around the track and screw him over at every chance possible.
Or you know….you could just ignore him. A little bit of whining isn’t really a call for being a kitten back to them.
Just jump over them. After you do the race twice you can pretty much tell which are real and which are fake. Just jump over them with your #1 skill (or as others have mentioned, if you have ‘Grounded’ use that).
Still really annoying. Jumping over them can be tricky, as can dodging them. Or they can be in a blind spot or just after a jump.
It’s just interesting how the bomb powerup is much more effective for keeping first place than the gusts, lightning, and blinds are for taking first place.
It’s actually kind of funny though. In some ways I prefer not coming in first because of the rewards. That is, the karma and bag of coins from 1st place don’t stack with the other rewards. So much easier on my inventory to just give up 1st and save myself two inventory slots.
Two things would probably help.
1. No item damage on death.
2. More room for small scale encounters to make a difference. (Talking 4-6 people)
It’s just a lot of zerg vs zerg, and that’s the only real way to take and defend the keeps. Supply camps and caravans could be protected by a small group, but there’s really nothing to do if a huge zerg sweeps though. A small group might be able to hold out in a tower, but that mostly depends on the tower being fully upgraded and stocked.
Beyond that. shrug It’s a fun diversion, but I do get bored of the back and forth after a while. Something more permanent to obtain might be interesting.
It’s the same thing. Sorry to disappoint you.
Though how will I know I’m not buying what she’s selling if she doesn’t tell me what it is. Maybe her and Carden should hook up.
I do wish there had been a couple more choices. Neither one really fits my current look for my main character, though I suppose I could adapt it. Would have be nice if we could dye them.
It probably won’t really help the lag issues, but if you’re really having issues doing the sprint, it may help turning your settings to best performance.
The main thing that catches my eye and only because of my imagination being a buggy little thing is the possibility of players having a visable influence within the world.
The smartest idea in my opinion is to HAVE EACH SERVER HAVE IT’S OWN WINNER OF THE ELECTION if only to reinforce that the mists connect to alternate worlds and that each server is it’s own reality.
I know it’d take alot of resources to work for both possible outcomes but it’d be the truest sense of a living story.
That might be interesting, since with guesting, players could then take advantage of both.
I don’t think that will really happen though, because it would mean there will be twice the work for every update that deal with Evon or Keil.
Change the knockback to a knockdown (1-2 seconds) and remove the “you lose all powerups” part and I wouldn’t mind them being placed in unavoidable spots that much.
But right now being the 2nd is a nightmare if the 1st knows what he has to do.
Seriously. 3rd place can be pretty bad too if 2nd avoids 1st’s bombs and sets his own too.
I do keep forgetting that bombs also remove any current powerups. None of the other offensive powerups do that as far as I’m aware. It’s funny that they basically gave 1st place the best tool available for staying in first, short of something really absurd.
I was looking for a thread about maybe why the materials/tiers are inconsistent?
Is it just because the devs realize that the market for certain things are saturated and they’re trying to artificially regulate the prices? Also did not realize that the only thing in these are recipes and quartz, that’s hardly going to regulate kitten.
Not really regulate. Just drain off excess supply. Similar to the boxes near launch that created the mystic forge conduits.
It seems they still haven’t figured out how to add a permanent sink for these items yet.
Not sure if they really need a permanent sink. That will just make these kind of things expensive all the time. Or the sink will just become obsolete all the time. Temporary sinks work just fine really.
I do have to say that the time I do have a bad connection, running the race is really frustrating. I go from a solid 1st/2nd place, and then meet a jump that’s just not cooperating with me. It’s pretty annoying to be trying to make jumps and they keep failing due to your connection rather than skill. This one race, I was simply trying to jump across a gap. At first it appears I made the jump okay, then I teleport to underneath the platform, then I teleport back on top of the platform, then back underneath it to fall to my death. And that happened 4 times in a row.
If someone has that kind issue in every race, they really will never win first.
I just won my first place.
All i can tell you is that 90% (if not 100%) of the time i was in lead, i was getting fake powerups from those “bags”. That number was significantly smaller during races in which i was 2nd or lower.
That’s because all the offensive powerups give you when you’re in first is bombs. So someone in first can be dropping them constantly. People in 2nd and 3rd place also mostly get bombs, but that doesn’t really help them catch the guy in first.
Dragon coffers were at least really plentiful. These fortunes are just incredibly rare trying to farm them normally. Kite baskets barely drop any. It’s funny that I get more fortunes just killing the mobs on the way to the kite baskets than I do from the kite baskets themselves.
It would be nice to race against some really competitive people (every once in a while). After all, I get a reward at the end, so I don’t care too much if I lose. And it might be interesting to watch others and see what they do.
Though really, most of the “competitive” people just abuse the heck out of the Fake Powerups, which doesn’t really take much skill at all. Not sure if I want to run a race where everyone is placing those in every unavoidable gap…
Always use pistol whip!
At least, that’s what I do while just doing PVE stuff. It has a nice stun, which can interrupt as well, and it gives you a short duratoin dodge, which is pretty useful if there’s other things attacking you. I do particularly like it because of the multiple attacks and how well they stack with Signet of Malice.
Beyond that, I guess just use it when you have initiative to spare or you want to play it safe for a while. Spamming pistol whip against a mob usually keeps you pretty safe in small encounters.
I agree that all the other objects on the track should have the same range…and they certainly do not appear to .
What other offensive power up could the leader use (besides the one that checkpoint jump….that would be completely unfair)?
The Light Speed checkpoint is a defensive powerup actually.
I think giving the leader that powerup that slows people down would be fine. That can at least be managed and doesn’t usually cause any issues in actually racing.
The leading person should only be getting the blind, since it’s pretty useless.
Doesn’t Blind daze though? I swore I used blind and watched a dude get stunned mid-jump and fall to his death (and I laughed). I think it’s more useful than lightning since you don’t see blind coming.
On topic: Yes, one of the things I raged the hardest the most about SS was the FLIPPING RANGE OF FAKE POWERUPS!!! it’s at least 180 and very hard to avoid – I even tried to 1-jump over it and STILL got hit! Now whenever I see a powerup I just use Grounded… or just avoid powerups all together.
Only lightning dazes/stuns I believe. Blind will cancel out a channeled skill, but that only applies to the light dash. Wind can knock back on it’s high tier too, and that hits suddenly.
So the problem is people joining mid-race.
And people leaving mid-race.
Besides, unless you have “God walking amongst mere mortals” or any of that title track personally, your not impressing anyone with your “elite status”.
Well, even that title doesn’t impress me much.
Regarding teaching people to fish, and giving people fish. I just don’t think that situation really applies here. It’s not a life or death thing. Being good/lucky enough to finish first in this minigame isn’t going to really change anything for them. In all likelyhood, once this event is over, we won’t see a similar event for another year.
Sure, there will be the occasional person who will keep hammering themselves against the race to get better and win. Those people are going to do that anyway, regardless of what you’re doing. Someone gave me a win, and I kept playing anyway just to get better and win on my own terms. (And then I wait at the line to hand that win to someone else).
Thing is, not everyone is like that. Not everyone who plays GW2 will have enough spare time to get good enough at the game. Or get good enough to overcome other problems like latency or bad luck. Fact of the matter is, some people will just not be very good at fishing. They may never get good at fishing, no matter how much you try to “teach” them. (You are actually trying to teach them, right? Just coming in first doesn’t really teach them anything. If you offer advice how to beat you, then that would count as teaching.)
Really though, we live in a society. And in that society, some people are good at fishing, and some are good at hunting. And usually those two groups help each other out. Just because it’s called a PVP zone, doesn’t necessarily mean the competition can’t be a bit more light-hearted and mutually beneficial.
I tend to get first in most of my races and I don’t think I’ve ever given away the lead intentionally to give someone a title. I’ve been called a myriad of filthy names, someone went as far as to call me a fat lipped baboon (lol?) because I had won four consecutive times against him. Each where I was ticking at the end and it would be 10-20 seconds before he showed up. The fact I beat him by that margin is enough for me to decide he doesn’t deserve the title if he’s shooting for the title while I’m in the game.
The issue is that the GW2 community IS helpful, but at the same time it’s also starting to get some of the WoW players it seems who believe everyone should take turns so everybody gets what they want.
I personally like the fact I earned mine through a few failures, it keeps me thinking like Farzo linked, failure leads to success. It’s just some people are better at handling failure and the perception of it. And it made me better at the racing course because of it, in order to get first I had to learn a few tricks, like listening for the oncoming lightning strikes and using a guard.
People need to grow up and realize they should have to earn things, especially on a game where you have unlimited resources at your disposal, like google and youtube. And you can’t say generation crap because I’m 19 and I’ve figured this life fact already and have known it since I was 12 and progressing through AQ40 on WoW with a guild that knew my age and kept me around because they knew I was willing to fail with them until we reached that point of success.
Didn’t deserve the title, because you were in the race. So…he would deserve the title if you weren’t in that race. Kind of a strange bit of logic, isn’t it?
It is a bit funny seeing someone with a Brony name saying that he won’t give someone a win. So much for friendship and magic.
Doesn’t give any points that I see. So I think it’s infinitely repeatable. Afterall, 15 runs for 1 rare is a pretty turnaround compared to running the daily group events.
A kite mini would be neat. But who knows. Maybe there is a kite mini coming later in this update?
I agree that all the other objects on the track should have the same range…and they certainly do not appear to .

Okay, find the words to be offensive. But remember that if you play how you so choose then so can others. And if others choose to team up to try and stop someone they feel is raining on their parade then so be it. You are not a victim of some great injustice. A couple people used questionable language and one person suggested to team up against you.
There’s absolutely no context to the OP. For all I can tell, people are getting kitten ed at OP because other people ahead of him are yielding to let others win, but he just runs past them to take 1st.
There is no context in which it is acceptable to curse and conspire against another player.
So you too think that a personal attack is a viable tactic when someone does not play by your rules? I’ll say it again, it is NEVER okay to say nasty words in the chat to someone for any reason.
I see you’re trying to take some moral high ground, but all you’re really doing is trying to cover up the real discussion by pointing at a few people who said some not so nice things. It’s not really propelling the discussion forward in any regard.
And this screenshot is lacking a lot of context. What was said before this? What happened before this? Was there some build up?
Well. If you want to keep winning, you do have to pay the consequences of people getting upset with you for winning. Not sure why you feel the need to keep making these topics.
I assume you’re heavily using the Bad Powerups when you race? That will annoy people a lot more than simply winning without them.
Exactly. I played three games and figured out the game and now place anywhere from first to third in 7+ player races. The mini game isn’t hard at all sadly no reason people can’t earn it. This isn’t World of Warcraft. Earn your stuff by trying instead of having it given.
It’s not easy for everyone. In some cases, not easy purely due to factors outside of their control like latency.
I don’t think it was meant to be easy for everyone, that’s why it’s not required for the meta event. That being said, I can certainly understand the frustration of not being able to get an achievement point. I personally am having trouble with some of the kite ones. But I will continue to try and work at it, and everyone should try and work at the things they struggle with so they can get better at it. What’s the point of playing the game if you just get everything handed to you?
I say there’s a bit of a difference between a jumping puzzle and the sanctum sprint. A jumping puzzle can usually be completed with enough time and patience.
Sanctum Sprint however can have people like yourself that consistently place 1st, preventing others from getting the title. That can be even more frustrating.

Yeah, it’s too powerful. It’s actually easier to hit the fake powerup than it is to run over the real ones. Plus it knocks down and removes any buffs the player might have been saving. And it can be placed in completely unavoidable places with blind spots.
Kind of funny one of the more powerful attack powerups is given to the leaders.
@LunaticChaos
Now I see the problem. The race is just a giant timed jumping puzzle with some specific mechanics, for me, and that’s why I can’t see how letting someone else win would be any different from giving portals in any other jumping puzzle. You obviusly do not think like that, and that’s why we can not get to an agreement other than being rude to the person that is winning is a bad thing (and I said that already).
That’s a good way of putting it.
It’s basically Mad King’s Clock Tower, except only the first person to the end gets a title.
