While I don’t really agree with the numbers, I do agree the rewards need to be better.
Heck, it’s getting really frustrating running Tequatl repeatedly, and not getting him down to even 75% for any reward.
If beating him is only a handful of greens and a rare, it’s really not worth the time and effort beyond the initial achievement points.
It’s not the fact that some JPs give more than others…..
It’s which JP’s give more. ….3 of the ones in Caledon give 6-9 while none of the ones in Orr give that many. Very inconsistent “what the heck?!?” headshaking there.
Yep. It’s very strange how they were balanced. Very difficult to get to chests only give a handful (or none at all), while easy jumping puzzles give almost a dozen.
And yes, these hard to get. Even dungeon runners get Fragments slower than someone gathering up Bloodstone Dust or Dragonite Ore. I’m not sure what Arenanet was thinking about this.
Were you actually pulling people into one on purpose? Or did it just randomly succeed?
So far the overflows I’ve been in, I think the majority of players were dead on the floor. Not kidding about it being the majority, either. Arriving in overflow is like a perfect storm of fail – a combination of people who were all trying to get somewhere else, never heard of each other, and need levels of co-operation that require 3rd party software to work. If any of them win it without organized groups showing up there intentionally I’d be very surprised.
Agreed.
The only way I think an overflow would win is if people are just hijacking the overflow to get an already organized group together.
Most overflows I’ve been in (only got on my home server twice) tend to only get him down to 90%. A couple times it’s been almost 75%, but apparently not quite. That’s usually followed or proceeded by a bunch of people complaining about people being dead, afkers, bad players, bad turrets, and all manner of other things for why we failed. Usually followed that up with another set of players saying how they love the event, glad it can’t be facerolled by people pressing 1, and how we should all just L2P.
As for the OP. Screenshot or it didn’t happen.
so people can get the daily achievement without having to wait 6hours to get into the main instance?
Except the daily is just to do any world boss (or attempt Tequatl).
Though, I do get the point of trying to get the other achievements. That said, the boss ones will be around for a while and the ones obtainable by failing overflows will be obtainable by failing main maps in the future. The rest of the Boss Week achievements do not even require fighting Tequatl.
At this point, it’s very unlikely that any overflow server is going to get organized enough to defeat Tequatl. It’s actually unlikely that an overflow will break 75% health, due to lack of organization and numbers
So, if people are just beating their heads against a wall trying to beat this on an overflow, why should the event even start on an overflow?
Grats guys!
Shame I was stuck in overflow for the last few hours.
vabbi did it too now, put some more effort into teamwork. You can do it.
+1 @sirsquishy
fyi … organized guilds are starting to guest at low pop servers to avoid the overflow issue brought on from scrub randoms who play alone by themselves in dark corners.
Vabi also did it through big guilds guesting over there to avoid the overflows (as you said), and by having VOIP, which seems to be a common trend so far.
So much this ^
Hopefully only the most hardcore of players will stay. There will be guilds that coordinate together to do Tequatl just as there are guilds that do Karka Queen together.
I don’t get this mentality. Why is it a good thing to have a major content release that only hardcore guilds will only very rarely complete? Why is there this desire for content that people hope chases away the majority of players?
Karka Queen and Southsun Cove is basically a ghost town most of the time. At least Orr has been getting some attention now that temples are a bit more worth running.
Honestly, more waves would be good, but less poison fields. The problem with those poison fields is that they are difficult to see (Liadri anyone?), and they can stack on top of each and quickly down a player. Waves are the one thing that actually gives players enough time to react, as well as disrupts a zerg from stacking.
More risen being around would be fine, as well as more fingers. In return, a few more cannons would be great, or some other method for players to remove scale stacks without needing the cannon.
But now we get to the question… what WOULD be “worth it” in terms of rewards?
Guaranteed Exotic, at least 20s and 2-4 Champion Loot Bags… that’s my MINIMUM
I’m pretty much in the same road.
Minimum of 1 exotic + other stuff considering it’s current difficulty.
As it is, I can spend that 15+ minutes just doing champ farming and end up better off.
I think you’re right about that. They did make Tequatl into a boss that can fail, and fail often. Now whether that’s a good thing, I’m not convinced of that.
I see the mechanics. And they are a bit interesting. Cannons to buff the group and keep them clean of poison. Group to protect the cannons and the people on them. It’s all very compelling. But does it really belong in a big open world boss fight with 100 people that you can’t coordinate?
(edited by Coldin.2840)
It is a little strange. It might make more sense if players were actually winning and he was like “Oh no you don’t! I’m outta here!”, but most times he’s completely killing everyone. When the time runs out, he just destroys the laser and leaves, despite us never once firing it on him.
Great. The same people that said Liadri was great, while ignoring the flaws in the fight that artificially inflated the difficulty.
What I am wondering is, why no one has brought up the issue of scaling as of now. i mean, it is entirely possible, that with a smaller, well organized group of say 20 players, Tequatl would be scaled down and be more easily done? Instead of a large and heavily unorganised group.
If that would be the case, that would be great. I always disliked the current world bosses, where you just spammed attacks uncoordinated and the mass was enough to win the fight. Now there will be actually need of tactics, a player who wants in on the success needs to understand the event and participate in it – AND THAT IS GREAT. I am all for challenging, near-to-impossible content depending entirly on your frigging skill and teamwork.
Actually, I’m not sure if it scales like that. From what I remember, the fight was designed to be played by 80+ people. Having less than that just might mean you never have enough DPS to do anything to him.
Well, to be honest, you don’t need genius-level intellect to come to the conclusion Atrabelos did. You only need to remember Karka Queen in Southsun. Even without the level of difficulty posed from Teq, the Queen could be farmed.
But, for the most part, there’s no interest due to the lack of rewards.
You don’t need time travel . . . just common sense.
Basically this.
Karka Queen admittedly does still get run occasionally, but mostly by big guilds rallying people to do it. Even still, I’m not sure if the rewards are really worth the effort. It’s also unfortunate that most of Southsun is pretty much unusable to the solo player due to the encampments being impossible to clear by one player.
Tequatl suffers from the same problem. Right now, players get nothing if they don’t get past 75%, which is discouraging. The rewards for under 75% are mostly uninspiring from what I’ve heard so far, with the only decent rewards coming from the kill itself. Even those are mostly relying on RNG to be worth that extreme level of communication that simply won’t be possible a month down the line.
It’s a worrying state right now, to say the least.
Precision and Crit Damage were left out of this one too, since Teq can’t be crit.
The current “best” gear for this happens to be PTV. Which is still power, and still a bit annoying.
it’s a wave
a wave of tears from the spam 1 world boss farmers
What do you think it took BG to zerg down Teq? Sitting in 1 spot using all your damage skills over and over while the turrets buff you till each of the 25%, 50%, 75% phases pop up? Anyone who thinks this is much different is blind.
Very true.
There is more to it obviously. Those people have to know to dodge out of the way of the waves, and not stick too long in a poison puddle. And the groups on turrets need to be well coordinated to keep up those buffs and poison removals.
But after that, it’s basically just boss DPS 101. Stack and spam attacks.
People will get discouraged. Especially when they aren’t even getting past the first phase and not getting any rewards.
Players like to see progress. So far, I have yet to see any real progress for any of five tequatl fights. Sure, a few percentages lower here and there, but it’s still mostly just craziness and getting everyone organized is going to be very difficult.
I think until players start seeing him regularly go down to 75% health, you’re going to see more and more people simply giving up.
Kind of interesting that the story takes in the fact that players have been constantly beating him back over and over again. I always wondered if story-wise we’re just beating these things once, and subsequent times are just non-canon.
Still. I’m wondering where this really fits in the timeline for beating Zhaitan.
Anyway, the story mostly involves the Pact/Vigil trying to research how to kill Tequatl, and Rox trying to earn her way into Rytlock’s warband.
This is what we asked for.
I never asked for this.
transmutation stones FTW
You mean Crystals, which are basically gem stone only. I think it’s been ages since I’ve seen a Transmutation Crystal from a daily or chest or anywhere else.
People thought that dungeons like AC and CoF were too hard at one point…
Honestly, I would still say they are too hard. People just know how to “do the fights” that most of the difficulty is mitigated. You throw a new group of people into AC and they will have issues.
Yeah. I’m a little disappointed on that stat spread. The skin is pretty neat, but it feels a bit silly to get the skin and not like the stats.
Valkyrie stats would have been nicer I think.
No one knows exactly what the rewards are yet for a full kill. Should know soon though (and Ill laugh if its just some champ chests and daily rare).
Seriously.
Heck, even it’s a few champion chests and two daily exotics, I’m not sure if it will be worth failing over and over again.
That can’t be Caithe. Looks way too human.
I think it only fires during the phase changes (75% health, 50% health). Though it would be nice if it fired just once during the first phase too.
A home server MIGHT get this, simply because they have enough people. I’m really not sure if an overflow will ever get this since so far I haven’t seen it even break 25%.
I’m feeling like why it may not be impossible, it’s certainly very improbable that people will beat him. Simply too much health, and too hard to herd 100+ cats, I mean players, to beat him.
More Challenging:Yes
More fun:Yes
More rewarding;Yes
More team play: Yes
Big mindless zerg friendly:NoAwesome stuff keep it up Anet!!!!
Hmm…
More Challenging: Certainly
More Rewarding: Only if you beat him, and we still don’t know the extent of rewards.
More team play: Yes, but no way to coordinate those teams so far.
Big Mindless Zerg Friendly: No, but the mindless zerg still exists and is likely needed for DPS
I see groups making a bit of progress in each overflow, but it’s minor. I’m wondering if we’ll see this become regularly beaten, or if after the initial rush it will be forgotten due to how difficult it is to beat him.
Nothing good, 1 green and 2.5k karma. We finished at about 55% hp, the lasers helped a lot.
Ouch. That’s it? Hopefully beating him has something better.
So, has anyone managed to get this yet? And if so, what did you get and how much time did you have remaining?
I’ve personally done this fight twice now, and we only managed to get him down about 15%. Actually killing him is going to require a lot of damage…
Actually, I believe it was stated that they did not beat him in testing, and that they were leaving it up the players to beat him.
Ok then that guy trolled ha ha. So how long is that boss? Can this fail early(like if something gets destroyed you need to defend)? Or is it a fixed time after which it fails? (like scarlet invasion is on 45 minutes)
Fixed time. You have 15 minutes to beat him down. If you don’t at least get him down by 25%, you won’t get anything.
It was pretty tough doing it with only a dozen people. It got a bit easier once we learned how to dodge the electricity, but even then it can be a bit difficult to completely avoid.
For the level 80 exotics, I suggest selling them rather than salvaging. You won’t get many materials back, and you’ll probably rather have the money to buy more materials first.
Depends how much you saved up. But honestly, that 40G would probably only be enough to get you through 450-500, not 0-500.
That said, if you have a fair stash of ingredients already and a crafting booster, the 1-400 part should be “relatively” easy. Most of those materials are fairly common and cheap on the TP (besides the rare ingredients).
But yeah…it’s going to cost you a bit if you’re trying to do it entirely through gold.
Already beat World Two
Yeah…I’m not a fan of dungeons. Maybe I’ll step back into them with the new Group Finder thing, but I still doubt I’ll enjoy them much.
Also, easy doesn’t really seem like the right term. It’s 20 per path, and some of those paths can take quite a long period of time.
Yeah…but you never crossed the finish line backwards in Mario Kart by taking a shortcut.
I’d say it’s unintended at best. Someone put down all 3 powerups at the end, and just made the end area open instead of with fences.
Considering Sanctum Sprint isn’t where most people spend their time, there’s no reason for them to “fix it”. Especially since players can’t agree on whether it’s an exploit or not.
Anyway, most races are won/lost way before that shortcut, so it’s not a big deal for that either.
I’ve gotten a bit better at dodge jumping myself over the last week, but it’s still a bit iffy if I’ll get it.
You really just have to hit jump and dodge at near the same time, which jump just slightly before.
Personally, I just wish they would remove it and let us jump a bit longer/higher normally.
I have no clue what you’re saying….
Get rid of chore achieves in the future

The secret door achievements are nice, but I do have to agree that the “Collect all baubles” are a bit of a chore. This is especially because there’s no easy way to track how many you already have, and you won’t know if you missed one until it’s too late.
At first I thought it was “Black Powder” is now a blast finisher, which would have been kind of awesome if it comboed into it’s own field. But I guess that would have been pretty crazy…
Most of the strategies around obtaining Empyreal Fragments tends to revolve around “If you have a lot of alts”, which is kind of frustrating.
That said, the fastest way to get the fragements does appear to be either running dungeons, or doing open world chests. Also make sure you hit the LA jumping puzzles, as those tend to give 10+ fragements total as well.
The only reason it was changed to 4 because there was a ton of it in the early days of GW2. Now that there’s a lot less people playing in the lower levels, soft wood has become rare again.
Also, you learn to value wood a lot more if you’re trying to level up Huntsman. So many recipes all require wood. At least the leather is dirt cheap.
There’s one easy explanation for why SAB wasn’’t as popular this time around. It’s simply not new. The patch in April came as a big surprise, and everyone was really enjoying the cute throwback to retro games and the April Fools joke that brought it out.
Even if SAB World 2 had been perfect and everyone loved it, it’s likely there would still be less of a turnout this time around. Being released at the same time when everyone is heading back to school and college and work probably didn’t do it any favors either. There’s also the Ascended Crafting which while it probably brought people in, it also made some people leave. (I do wish we could have some dev discussion about whether Ascended Crafting is reaching their goals or not)
Anyway, I wouldn’t want stuff like this to hurt a dev professionally. I think they’re under enough pressure already.
The only problem I had with Josh were the first couple posts where he seemed to be dismissing the issues. But the communication after that showed that he did genuinely want players to enjoy World 2 and wanted to make sure the complaints were justified. The communication was great and one of the main reasons I decided to stick with SAB even after getting frustrated. I don’t see why he should be put on moderated status when the majority of his posts were very good at isolating the issues and responding to concerns. Frankly, it’s something I’d love to see more among developers.
Edit: I actually wouldn’t say SAB is dying. In fact, I see a ton more people running around with SAB weapons over the last week. So I’d say all the communication and changes did some good.

Is it too hard? Respect the awesome work

So, I’m not sure if Josh is still reading this thread, but that patch a week ago really fixed up most of the issues I had with World 2. The rapids are a lot more friendly. I’m earning baubles for defeating tough monsters and feeling rewarded for it. Some of the jumping is a lot more friendly. And now I can much more appreciate just how much hidden stuff there was in World 2.
Frogs and Bananas are still pretty aggravating, but at least they aren’t just outright killing me now. There’s still some jumps which I would say are too hard. The dart traps are pretty annoying and difficult to see, but the gong puzzle isn’t nearly as frustrating now. So, while I think there are still improvements that could be made in the future, all in all, it’s an awesome update to SAB.
I’m a bit sad that the communication dropped off from Josh after the patch, so hopefully he’s at least still reading some of the positive feedback here. I have to say the besides that initial post, the rest of the posts really highlighted some great communication with players to isolate the issues and difficulty spikes. Without that, I don’t think we would have gotten the fixes we needed.
So, thanks to Josh and the rest of the Arenanet team.
I’ve gotten more than that 2500 shards since ascended weapons were released with no actual grind o-o
I just do what i want and it flows in quicker than i can keep track of it, and i don’t even WANT an ascended item, they all look pretty horrible to me. Quit complaining and learn that it’s not going to take a single day to get it, we already have enough of these cry-baby threads on the forums.
2500 shards. Yeah….call me skeptical. Are you playing 10+ hours a day. What are you doing to obtain that many?
Maybe you should say that, or is this really just a troll post to call people cry babies?
TL/DR: yes, the farming speed is better than originally expected, but the nonfarming, casual gameplay speed is beyond horrible.
Yeah. Everyone was all worried about the time-gating on the recipes, but that’s honestly the easiest part about ascended weapons. (Though gathering up soft wood logs is a bit annoying)
The real time-gate is the darn materials to make the crystal. I was considering making a few ascended weapons. Two for my main, one or two for an alt, but I don’t know if I’ll really want to keep up that farming for that long.
