Gotta say I really enjoy this. I decided to give sPvP a second chance after not liking it much at first since release. I’m currently rank 7 but I definitely have en easier time then when I was GS + x/shield. I noticed right away that players can’t read me as easily with a LB as they did with GS + x/shield. It felt like other players knew exactly what I was going to do as a Warrior, but that’s not the case anymore. Pin down to 100b is my new favorite combo!

Edit: Defektive if you get a chance, you or someone else should upload some longer footage of this build. I’d really like to see how someone with more experience does it.

Hey Defektive. There was a video on State of The Game # 3, and one of the top NA players (Java) mentioned his team played against a team with a couple longbow Warriors and thought they were very strong. Hearing that made me really want to try this build.

I think you meant “phased out”. I’d really like to see more build and weapon combinations dominating out there, but sadly that’s not happening.I think sword and shield really need to get some love, as well as hammer’s number 4 ability. Hopefully a-net will better balance some classes in the next major patch. A lot of professions have the same problem of being limited to only a couple viable weapons and trait combinations.

Most classes need their traited healing abilities buffed to the level of Guardians AH. Other classes need to be able to apply protection as well. Necromancer has some good life leach traits, but they’re just so dang weak! Warrior has heal shouts, that are too weak, and they can’t provide protection. Thief has the same problem with venoms. They sound fun with Venomous Aura, but in practice they’re weak and severely range limited. If healing power was more attractive (buffed), then maybe more people will think about healing in groups. Until then, healing power is the biggest wasted stat next to magic find. If they removed it from the game, nobody would care.

Some classes are better than others at certain things. A Warrior can take a lot of hits, but can also dish out some serious pain. If you’re staying alive and doing the most damage you can, then you’re doing a great service to your team. I tried the tankier route, and I tried heal support, but I feel like I’m the weakest link if I’m not doing the most damage that I can on my Warrior. Both my Guardian and Warrior I go healing with shouts, but my Guardian is definitely more support orientated, and can get out of sticky situations easier with shouts like “Save Yourselves”, “Stand Your Ground”, and “Hold the Line”. There is nothing wrong with doing tons of damage on your Warrior. Besides… someones gotta do it : P

Priest/Monk (Prayers and Smites)
Druid ( Nature)

I think ritualist, shaman, and assassin would be redundant with classes we have.

I wasted almost 300g in the mystic toilet, using rares and selling exotics. I did not come away with a precursor, and I lost 300g. I wasted almost 1000 hours and 300g to come away empty handed. How is it almost free again?

Sorry but we really don’t have any boons to offer in a group setting. Our specialty is manipulating conditions. We can convert conditions to boons with well of power, and we can grant protection with Spectral Wall or 3 seconds of protection from wells if traited, but that’s really about it. It’s sad really.

I “tank” (And by tank I mean use everything I have to my advantage) better with my Necromancer in GREENS better than any Guardian I’ve ever seen. Guardians always think they are a “tank” which makes me roflmao while I stand still for 1 second and see them rush in only to lose 50% of their HP instantly, or some idiot tells me to “stop! let me pull!” with his 600 range scepter or some dumb kitten. Or, you know, I could pull with my actual pulling skill or my 1500 range staff.

I am usually carrying my team on my Necromancer… although I’ve only played with pubs so far. I don’t find Guardians necessary at all for dungeons. I wish more would play a Necromancer (skillfully) because the amount of support they provide is huge.

I have never met another player in the entire game who is smart enough to you know… drop a blind well before ressing so you don’t die? Or Shroud-res by pressing keys quickly. Or plague-ressing.

My main is a Necro and I also have a Guardian. Necro is definitely tanky, but the Guardian offers better group survival and utility. The problem with some dungeons and high level fractals are the threat of ranged mobs.

Guardian offers protection from ranged mobs with Wall of Reflection and Sanctuary. Necro doesn’t have anything like that. Guardian has multiple ways to give Protection. Necro can give protection for 3 seconds with wells, which are on ~40 second cooldown, and you have to be standing inside of them. Necro also has Spectral Wall, but again you have to walk through it. Gaurdian has aoe condition removal through shouts. Necro has Well of Power, Putrid Mark, and Plague Signet. I consider them equal in that regard. Necro offers very little in aoe healing, and no group stability. Gaurdian also gives group Might through Empowering Might, Necro doesn’t buff allies. Sorry but Necro doesn’t bring anything that a Guardian cannot. Except for aoe blind through Plague form.

P.S. Guardian scepter range is 1200. Necro is 900. Also yes, Necro does have a ranged pull, and its great…when it works.

Soldier stats are probably the best for the Guardian. I second what Grazingcattle said. AH shout build with Soldier stats will take you far. Go to guildwars2guru and look up Strife025’s Guardian builds.

Perhaps your expectations are too high.

Conditions: not underwhelming. Perhaps you’re doing it wrong.
Tanky/damage: no problem here either, 2nd or 3rd tankiest class in the game.
Vampiric: Could be better but definitely not underwhelming.

Post video or all what you are saying is simply pathetic. Perhaps you are doing something wrong with other classes when you say necro is in the top tank class.

Conditions: I can put more and quicker conditions with a ranger/warrior than a necro.
Tanky: any other class can beat this crap. Engi/warrior/guardian/D.D ele/ranger.
Vampiric: LOL, not going to even comment on that.

The class is simply bad, it needs a revamp. I tried all the other classes and it is far much better in terms of balance than the necro (i do enjoy the necro/mesmer the most though).

Oh and p.s – Engi also have the right to complain, they are on the same boat as us. But at least they got a good bunker build.

What I say is pathetic because you did a couple hot joins and got your kitten pushed in. You should start with using your key binds instead of clicking. I have an 80 Thief, Warrior, Guardian, Necro, and 40 Engi. When you say you try other classes, you should do more than play around in the mists at level 2.

Why not make more dungeons and like raids or sort of?

Axe auto attack is bad. Very bad. If you want to do damage as a power necro, use dagger main hand. The only reason anyone would use axe is for the #2 ability as a finisher or the #3 ability at the start of a fight when you have multiple opponents (the retaliation stacks its duration per target hit). Never stay in axe long enough to use its auto attack. Its extremely bad.

LOL, also note how many invulnerability stacks the necro screenshot has. Its so sad that several autoattacks are stronger then our actual “burst” skill.

Wasted 100g on that build . ANet i want a refund

I know that feel, i have around 4 or 5 necro builds in PVE, complete with armor, weapons, trinkets, trying to find something the necro excels at – but there is nothing.

- Burst: underwhelming
- Conditions: underwhelming
- Tanky/support/heal: underwhelming
- Tanky/damage: underwhelming
- Minions: underwhelming
- Vampiric: underwhelming

We simply don’t burst, and minion builds are so-so when the AI cooperates. Never tried support heals. Perhaps Necromancer is not for you.

Thanks for the great guide Lopez. You’re not the Lopez from arenajunkies are ya? Anyway i’ve been playing a power Necro focusing on a Might build for a while now, and I feel like I wasn’t using the Necro to it’s full potential. I used to run Well of Blood exclusively but had recently made the switch to Consume Conditions and found it easier to keep my health up. In dungeons/fractals do you use Well of Blood (w/ reduced cd + protection) more often than Consume Conditions? I’m assuming it mostly depends on the encounter, and whether it has loads of conditions going out or not.

I share these sentiments. Going into a dungeon with all toughness using a mace/shield I feel completely useless because I still get vaporized as easily as anyone else. Also shouts healing for a little over 1k health with no healing is peanuts when you’re taking 6-8k a hit. Toughness, healing, and vitality need to be looked at, because compared to precision, crit, and condition damage, the offensive stats offer much more. My cannon Necro can easily survive longer than my warrior who is set up defensively.

Well of Suffering will rip a new hole in your target. I’m using Well of Suffering, Epidemic, and BiP going 10/30/30/0/0 using dagger/dagger and staff. You’re not going to have many sources of might besides BiP until higher levels, but Might increases all of your damage and you can’t go wrong with those utilities.

Dang, I like Spectral Walk because it also has a stun break. I guess i’ll just use Sig of Locust for pve roaming and Walk for dungeons. Or heck i’ll equip both for those times I need to skip over half a dungeons worth of mobs.

I’d like to add that this trait not working correctly is one of the most annoying bugs to deal with. I get the 5 second out of combat cool down more often than not.

I do this dungeon daily, runs take about 40 mins for the fastest path ( P 3) and longer for the others. The problem is (I feel) not so much that people struggle to do it, but that the rewards are not better than any other dungeon. Why spend 40 mins + in Arah when you can spend like 20 in CoF for the same reward just different set of tokens.

Now the argument is that well the Arah token set of gear is more prestigious. People see you wearing that and go ‘wow that must be a good player.’ To be honest though, for those who are capable of running it smoothly I just don’t see it that way, I don’t mind the skin but it doesn’t mean anymore to me than when I see someone wearing the full COF set. And it’s just not enough of a motivator.

Factor in the fact that you may have to take some pugs who have no idea wtf is going on and you take the risk of making that run even longer when you could easily just do another dungeon and if a pug doesn’t know whats going on it doesn’t matter so much/is easier to explain to them what to do.

For me I do it at the end of my day, when my other dungeons are on DR and my guildies wanna go in for a quick run and get it done. My motivation is that Lupicus is a fun boss, I make it a personal challenge each day not to get downed once, sometimes I manage, sometimes I don’t but it’s all in good fun and the tokens I just use to reskin my ugly AC gear lol.

On my server I don’t think it’s so hard to find people, it’s just harder to find people who know what to do. I have noticed over the past few days that the Halloween event has alot of people preoccupied on my server which makes it take a bit longer to find 1 or 2 to fill in my last slots.

Hey Swiftpaw I think I ran a TA with you once on Isle of Janthir, but I could be mistaken. To the OP it must be your server, because IoJ has plenty of Arah runs daily.

Guarantee if they doubled the amount of keys they gave you for the same price, then more people would buy them. I have 120 chests sitting in my bank. The keys are a waste of gems currently.

dropped 200 more rare staves in the forge this morning. 400 total so far. I got 3 named exotics almost in a row, then I bought 60 more staves and got 0 exotics. I’m getting discouraged but i’ve gotta get one soon o.O

Edit bought 80 more and got a few exotics. No Legend. Also i’m running with 230% magic find. Magic find does jack kitten. The Legend is up to 400g. By the time I get 400g it will cost 999,999g.

Out of my 80 Thief, 80 Warrior, and 80 Necro, I find my Necro is my favorite for dungeons. I have a lot more survivability and group utilitiy. I run power Dagger/Warhorn, Staff with wells.

This quest is bugged on Isle of Janthir. Dead loggers, no ghostly minions, displaced spirits don’t lead me anywhere, and the world event right next to this heart is bugged.

Yes it has been worth it. I have 3 level 80s at about 500 hours played. I just started working again 40 hours a week so I wont have much time to play. If I didn’t start work i’d probably be bored in the coming weeks. The problem I have with Orr is the temple karma rewards have horrible stats and aren’t really worth going for. WvW is great but I’ve been taking a break from that to get my exploration finished. The leveling in this game is fantastic, but max level events need some work. I’d really like to see something like a 10 man dungeon/raid. There needs to be something that encourages guilds to work together in PvE, just like there is in PvP with WvW.

P.S. people that say the graphics aren’t good are kidding themselves.

Get another alt. I have 3 80s and all I have to do is log over to use whatever profession I want. 3 80s also makes farming Orichalcum, Ancients, and jumping puzzles, very lucrative. Once I get a legendary i’ll level a 4th to get the last of the crafting covered.

I thought the Bifrost was so awesome that I started thinking about getting a legendary. Today I dropped 10g into the forge to no avail. There are also 0 The Legend of Rage on the trading post. Even if there was one, it would be selling for 200g. Depressing.

I find health siphoning abilities to be really fun on the Necro. Healing through wellls, life siphon, siphon on crits, minions healing you, and other healing traits wet my whistle. It’s a shame they’re so underpowered that they’re not worth focusing on.

Getting away from a survivability and/or condition build was the best thing i ever did. I went for straight damage stats and I now use rifle/hammer. I pump out great damage and I still have 20k HP and 1400 toughness. I’m sure i’d more more damage still with Signets, Axes, and Greatsword, but I like the control that Hammer brings me, and I still get amazing single target damage with a Rifle.

As a power Necro I might actually use this now. 350 power and 350 condition damage is not bad, especially with a lot of abilities that seem to be a hybrid of power/condition.

The only gripe I have is that a Thief’s dagger auto attack does damage/damage/poison. Thief also has Backstab, which hits like a truck. Necro has damage/damage/damage. That makes no sense to me, why not apply a condition? Also I know we’re not a stealthy class like a Thief, but we have a lot of blinds that could put to use a skill similar to Backstab.

For the topic at hand I think Dagger is correct to be limited to one target.

Funny, when I first played this morning it appeared CD and ET were ganging up on IoJ. Glad to see other people observe the same. But it makes sense because we’re ahead of CD on rankings. Also seen a CD warrior teleporting on a couple occasions. I just hope CD keeps up the pressure so ET doesn’t pull ahead too far.

Come on OP, it didn’t happen in the first GW, so it isnt gonna happen here.

On another note, the class is broken as you should be able to raise an infinite amount of pets that totally demolish everything in sight… this needs to be fixed asap

PLEASE! dont dumb down the game any more than you did in beta 3 Anet. it takes less than 2 seconds to recall your pets as a necro they dont need healing skills at all.

Necro is the single toughest class in the game, able to tank/PBAOE grind 10 mobs of even con at once an chain said mobs. With no downtime. Specking for aoe (wells)(marks) an pet survivbility makes the Necro the single toughest class in the game.

There is nothing wrong with pets at all.

PS as for pet damage LOL, they are not meant to do ALL YOUR DAMAGE, my flesh golem hits for 700 on crit. I am specked proply to take advantage of my pets toughness an lay down nearly 30k aoe dps every time.

If you are finding your pets are useless, then spec correctly to use them.I just remembered too, there is an in combat heal that can keep your pets alive for a very long time, if you know what your doing. mine ticks for 309 per tic.

You know this thread is about minions not healing outside of combat? Why are you going on a tangent about damage. How does giving minions out of combat regen make Necros any easier? It’s a quality of life issue. When I first started Necro I was very surprised to learn my Blood Fiend did not regenerate health. I don’t see the logic in it. Making this change wouldn’t “dumb down” the game. We regain health out of combat, so why don’t our minions?

Lack of Direck damage and burst

Necro’s burst is going to come from Wells, and Lich Form.

Double well + immobilize + dagger autos = extreme dmg

I’ve done a power Staff/well glass cannon build that just does ridiculous aoe dmg.

There’s the bone minions you can detonate for a bit more burst.

Other than that it’s just, Axe/Focus vuln stacking and jumping in and out of Death Shroud Life Blasting and weaving your hard hitting attacks (spectral claws/life blasts) for decent DPS.

At times it does feel like Necro’s are lacking a weapon. Another 2 handed weapon that could either be a Minion based weapon, or just a straight up Direct Dmg nuker weapon.

Being able to dump life force for a massive burst of dmg (that looks impressive to boot) would be cool, or maybe Axe turned into more of a bursty weapon than a sustained DPS weapon. The spectral claws skill could combine with Unholy Feast (the aoe will put a spectral claws Dot on everyone) and the #2 skill could be some spike skill.

I like your suggestions. Necro has too many weapon abilities that do anything but damage. Dagger auto attack is nice but why can’t we get poisons or bleeds like Thief auto attack? Theirs is much more potent. Scepter Feast of Corruption should do about 5x the damage it currently does. Stack conditions and using Feast as a burst ability would be perfect, except hit hits like a sock. Off hand weapons are also lacking in damage, except Enfeebling Blood. Or main hand weapons low damage makes it feel that way.

I like my Necro downed state abilities. The life drain does a good bit of damage and keeps me alive a little bit longer. The fear is useful when being stomped but it’s way too short. Just like every other necro fear.

Sadly MH Axe and OH Dagger gives me the most burst. I haven’t decided if I like the Staff all that much yet, but i’m only level 50. Doing quests that require killing of supplies or siege can be boring if you don’t have an Axe or Dagger. Arena Net is aware how players feel about the Necro right now, and I have faith that they’ll spin us in the right direction.

I think Death Shroud 1 and 2 abilities need some changes, or add another ability. While leveling my Necro there are many times I don’t even care to use it. On my Thief and on my Warrior I used my burst ability constantly. Necro I only use it under certain conditions.

Night Capping is still a thing

Same story everyday on my server, Devona’s Rest. Server resets and we start out winning for about 8 hours. I go to bed, come back, and some other server has everything capped and all of the orbs. The server is almost completely void of players from 3am to 3 pm. My guild started out on HoD, then moved to ET, and now we’re here. If we had a strong oceanic showing i’m sure we would prosper.

I completed this quest today on my second try. The first attempt I let some researchers die as I was working my way up the cave. When I had gotten to the escort section the NPCs didn’t follow me. Upon restarting the mission I made sure to keep all of the researchers alive and I was able to complete the quest. The Risen Grubs are also buggy in this zone. They shift back and forth frantically.
