Trinity or not, nothing is viable in PvE except for damage. This was a huge issue for players that liked to play support/healing/tank roles in other games. There is almost no strategy involved at all. This is why I quit playing. I did not see the need to improve my personal skill when the game was so face roll. This balance needs to happen.
I haven’t played in 7 months and this is still the meta? Stun Warriors? I’d really like to play GW2 again but not if it pvp hasn’t changed since I last left it. Come now ANET. We need something good.
IMO the biggest problem this game has is the lack of real direct competition.
1.- No duels.
2.- No clan wars.
3.- Not hard reach top lvl. (maybe add 10 lvl with new good skills but a lot harder to get)
4.- Not real raid bosses with very long spawns (once at week but very hard with guarantee drop)I use to love Lineage 2 because there was a lot competition everywhere.
-Siege were between guilds and allies for castles that gives stuff to the clan.
-Dueling was everywhere, people motivates to improve their gaming not only spamming 1 skill.
- Crafting was a big deal, unique items like boss jewels game unique bonuses that you could not find anywhere else.I’ not saying lineage 2 is a better game, i’m just saying that if they were merged the result will be the perfect MMO.
. . . just an my opinion.
You’re right. the competition is lacking. I realized that a few months ago and decided to quit. I was farming everyday to complete my legendary…and for what? To show it off in some dungeons or LA? I didn’t need the extra stats for face roll content.
Also still waiting for that condition overhaul for PvE.
I hope ANET will give us something big to compete with all of the new MMOs coming out. PvP really needs new game modes. This game is perfect for 2 v 2 or 3 v 3 arenas. I don’t understand why we don’t have this. Wildstar will have arenas right out of the gate. I know pvpers from WoW, SWTOR, and GW 2 are dying for some exciting and intense PvP.
PvE needs new zones to explore. New dungeons, and of course all new gear. An expansions worth fo content is needed.
I don’t know if this has been asked but I’d really like to hear a response to this question. What big plans does GW 2 have for PvP to compete with the likes of Wildstar? Wildstar has a very promising PvP scene right out of the gate, and players are HUNGRY for some intense and competitive PvP. I really enjoyed GW 2 for a year but it is overdue for something big.
The Holy Trinity? (DPS/Tank/Heal)
Or the new trinity? (DPS/DPS/DPS)In GW 2 PvE there is no need for control, support, or anything else besides damage. You will find more roles than just DPS in SPvP or WvW. The Holy Trinity was supposed to be replaced by DPS/Control/Support , but the implementation went wrong somewhere. I think AI mechanics need to be far more advanced to make Control and Support type play styles viable. There is no need when you have AI as dumb as every other MMO that has the Holy Trinity.
Yeah. If I would have to chose, I’d pick DPS/HEAL/TANK over DPS/DPS/DPS.
Even modern FPS games like Battlefield 4 have roles.
Funny you mention that. I’ve been playing BF 4 instead of GW 2, and I notice it as well. Even though the mechanics are much simpler, the strategy is very real, and every role can be extremely important. Especially in a semi-competitive scene. I really want to come back to GW 2 but I feel there is no reason until they make other roles viable, or until sPvP grows some more.

I hope GW2 is fixable because I’ve enjoyed it a lot up until recently. I quit PvP (r40) because there was no reason to play outside of titles. Its a shame because I love PvP because its dynamic and you will almost never see the same thing twice. In other games I would PvP when I was not doing dungeons or raids.
On the PvE side I was working towards my second legendary and I just became burnt out. I have the “end of expansion blues” right now. I can’t get myself to log in because I’ve already done everything 100s of times, and I stopped having fun. GW2 has evolved into Champion and world boss farming. I got my Ascended weapon, and then I asked myself “what the heck do I even need this for?” Until we get an expansions worth of content, I don’t think I’ll be logging back in. After killing Tequatl I somehow lost interest in the game. I guess i’ll be playing BF3 until BF4 comes out.
I’ve enjoyed GW2 since launch, but recently have become bored with current content.
I can’t grind out dungeons for the umpteenth time.
I’m burned out on gathering resources for ascended weapons and gold.
I see no point in leveling my fractals. I feel we should have more fractals by now.
I’m about 100g from crafting my 2nd legendary, and I could care less.
Most people have resorted to champ farming all day. This is what GW2 has become?
PvP was fun for a while but there is no prestige. PvP needs a lot of work.
WvW is not for me. I burned out on WvW a month into the game.
I enjoyed the gauntlet, and I enjoyed Tequatl for a bit, but right now there is nothing I have interest in. I have 5 80s and can’t stomach leveling another right now. I guess its a good time for a break. Sadly I can’t find another game to be interested in for the time being.
I agree GW2 had a lot of potential, but for a multitude of reasons, competitive PvP is nearly dead.
I personally just don’t play PvP anymore because there is no reason to play. The reward system needs to be reworked completely, and tournament/lebo rating gear needs to be introduced to resurrect any competitive play. I wish there was a game similar to GW2 that had better GW2, but I don’t know of any. I’m not a fan of MOBA games, and the other MMOs out right now are not as good as GW2. Frankly i’m bored as hell with GW2 because of the PvP situation, so i’ve been going outside.
I enjoy PvP, but it’s simply not worth my time right now. I’m working towards my legendary, so any time I spend in the mists is counter productive towards my goals. There is also no point in playing pvp because the rewards are mediocre and can only be seen by the other 9-10 people standing in the mists. I liked having my Avenger title, but now people can grind to r50 in 2 weeks so it’s meaningless. There is no prestige in GW2 PvP.
I’d like 2 15s thumpin on my Thumper Turret.
Officially you need 80, but you’d be hard pressed to get a kill with less than cap. It can be done with less, but you’re counting on all 100+ players to have optimal gear and utilities, food, and potions. In reality only half will be fully prepared to get a kill, while everyone else is running whatever spec and gear they feel like, with no food or other buffs.
Even with a capped server, ice bows and greatswords, fire elemental powder, and awesome turret gunners, you can still fail.
Greatsword or Hammer.
1.Necro really needs a melee weapon that cleaves.
2. There are Necro NPCs that wield GS and Hammer.
I don’t miss the trinity. But I was and still am dissapointed by how useful healing support is.
I’ll probably run 30/20/0/0/20. The only reason i went 30/0/0/10/30 was for Empower allies. I like having the cd reduction on Wirlwhind. It might not be the most “optimal” for dps, but its still a solid build.
As others have said. IF he is using GS / S + WH then the Warrior most likely won’t be doing much of anything except running away. It’s good for getting around a map quickly, but not much else.
You’re just going to have to do dungeons. You get 20 per run. For some reason it doesn’t say that on the wiki page. I don’t know if some dungeons give more than that or not. I’ve been running CoF P1, P1, P2, P1, and getting 20 each time. That doesn’t even take an hour for 80 frags.
Depends on the off-hand weapon.
If Sword, then condition.
If anything else, then power.
Basically this. Sword off hand brings Torment. So run condis if you run OH sword. Works very nice with LB as well.
Otherwise I’d run power.
What’s better. 4 gambit Deadeye, or 5 gambit Ragemaw? Ragemaw takes me about 10 seconds longer. I get cores instead of lodestones. No weapon skins yet.
Im doing Ragemaw as a Warrior with 5 gambits. It’s pretty easy, not as easy as Thief on Deadmaw though. But you can do it in 30-45 seconds as a condi Warrior. Using Sword/Sword + Longbow. Using every gambit except exhausted. Just get Torment on him, and kite him through your fire field. Dodge his leap. Use reflect for additional luls.
(edited by Copenhagen.7015)
Good thing condi Warriors aren’t getting attention yet. Combustive Shot aoe fire field can do 8k damage and its aoe. How to kill a Warrior? Kite him. But kill yourself in the process when you’ve got torment constantly being reapplied. If it stacks up to 5 and you keep moving. It will do a cool 6k damage. Dont mind the quickest application of bleeds of any class either. That’s not a problem. I’ll kite him. Even though i’ll be immoblized in a fire field with bleeds and torment taking chunks of my health similar to how a burst class would take your health down. Borderline overpowerd Condi Warriors and the other classes take the limelight. Fine with me!
Condi Warrior not viable in s/tPvP
Eh that’s just your opinion. Sorry it don’t have any stuns.
Don’t need stuns to be viable, need consistent pressure to be viable.
Condi Warrior takes to long to make a full impact. Unlike Necros or Engis who can front-load conditions immediately for spike, Warriors have to get into the thick of battle to provide their highest Condi spike (Bleed).
That means you’re taking considerable AoE cleave to provide a spike of 1 condition. Compared to other condi classes who can AoE condition from a range to avoid spike, and apply 3+ at once.
Condi Warrior doesn’t work in tPvP mi amor. Atleast, not at a high level.
Longbow isn’t range aoe? With a fire field that’s larger than a capture point? I don’t jump into the middle of a point and try to land my bleeds, that’s just suicide. It might not be the most efficient against the top 5 teams that constantly play each other, but it works for me currently. It’s more viable than a lot of specs/classes currently. Just because it’s not as viable as a condi Necro or condi Engineer doesn’t mean I should give up on it. When I get to that point where it feels like i’m bringing down my team, then i’ll consider what you said. Right now they can count on my mobility, longbow support, and ability to 1v1 spirit rangers siting on far point.
Just curious, what do you get for focusing the pet? Its not like the spirit ranger is specced for BM so couldnt we just ignore the pet?
You focus the big Spirit pet because it rezzes the Ranger when he goes down. I believe its called Spirit of Nature. Some say focus Sun Spirit first. It inflicts burning, but I think there is some bug associated with it. I haven’t figured out what it is. I just kill the Spirit of Nature first. All of the spirits die very quickly, but the buffs they provide mean they need to be removed quickly.
Looks like syncing. But it could just be something wrong with match making and they’re able to get the same team again. I find it strange all of those high level well known players end up on the same team together. Too many coincidences.

Eh that’s just your opinion. Sorry it don’t have any stuns.
I personally didn’t start playing tournies until rank 20. I wanted some time and knowledge under my belt when fighting tougher opponents. I would never tournie que at rank 1. They must realize they are going to be a detriment to their team?

If you can’t play at night, asumming you’re in the US, join an Aussie guild. That’s what I did. I can only play in the mornings, which is night time for them.
Use this template to link your build. http://intothemists.com/calc/?build=-s;9;9;9;9;9IJV4;2JF04JF048ZA
Jackals is pretty much right. It’s really a matter of experience. There is no way you’re going to know what to look for until you face against it over and over, or have the time/patience to play other classes yourself. There is no way around putting in the time to experience everything. So go out there and lose! YAY!
Playing against a good condition longbow s/s warrior with the torment / bleed stacking , great condition removal in hoelbrak/melandru and 2k toughness and now with much better condition removal in the class itself you’ll find yourself having a VERY hard time no matter what ranger build you throw at it. It actually is quite powerful and pretty anti-ranger with the reflection , aoe fields (fire dmg) and multiple torment and bleed stacking and the immoblization as well (pin down, etc) . It hasn’t surfaced yet much but it will once more and more warriors catch on. It’s easily the toughest warrior build I’ve ever faced and a warrior in our guild is very kitten good with it and kills most people you throw at it save for some very sneaky phant mesmers who usually end the duel with 10% hp themselves if not less. This is sPvP not wvw , not sure how it even pans in WvW.
Also keep in mind, with the aoes, and condi transfer of bleeds / burns and now torment which your pet will automatically take 150% dmg of because you can’t stop a pet ever even if you wanted to, it mutilates pets , it’s kind of crazy how fast they die even in full BM.
Yea condi Warriors are a force to be reckoned with. Reflection, Fire Field + Immoblize, quick condi removal, good self regen, and mobility can ruin a Ranger’s day if he’s not aware. I run this on my Warrior and don’t have much problem with any class. In fact I love fighting Rangers just so I can reflect everything they have. It’s a little OP. Thankfully there is not much of it going around. All of the attention is on stun Warriors.
Do not transfer to a server just to be with more people in the mists. I learned the hard way and wasted money because I wanted to be more serious about PvP. If you want to look for a team just guest. If you ever feel like doing WvW or something with your current guild on your current server, you won’t be able to if you transfer. If you transfer to Anvil Rock you will be dissapointed if you want to enjoy any other area of the game.
Post your Ele build. Have you made any trait, utility, amulet, rune, or sigil changes since encountering stun Warriors?
Do you use Tempest Defense, Final Shielding or Earth’s Embrace?

@Wolfpaq: What should the highest HPS skill in the game be? There has to be one or more that sit at the top. What should they be?
I don’t care which class has it or what skill it is as long as it requires an active use.
This matters for several reasons. You actively have to choose when to heal. This requires skill. This requires a break from DPSing. Maybe you timed it with stability so you wouldn’t be interrupted. This requires TRADE OFF.
This also comes with risk & a possibility for opponents to counter you. You are vulnerable for that 1 second cast time during which any number of things could happen. You could be poisoned. You could be CC’d. You could be interrupted.
Furthermore, even if you get the heal off successfully, it is now on a cool down. This means that an opponent knows how roughly how long he has during which time you have no heal skill access. A smart opponent knows exactly how long that window is and can coordinate his move set to be executed in that window.
You see what I’m getting at I hope. Knowing when to heal is a HUGE part of skilled pvp play. A signet passive has zero counter play and requires no risk. You can’t daze it, you can’t poison it unless you are capable of perma poison (which against a smart warrior is pretty much impossible), and it has no cooldown. You can’t interrupt it with CC. It is completely uncounterable and requires zero skill. Put on bar, gain best HPS in game.
Don’t forget Healing Signet still has an active. You will almost never use it because of how small the heal is. There is still a trade off here, but your health will usually be very low when decision making time comes. If you have 2k health and a Thief can stealth open you, what do you do? Pop your heal and have 5.5k hp to avoid being killed with one hit? Or do you kite and hope you can get him to miss while you regen?
I would not be surprised to see Healing Signet passive brought down slightly in favor of a higher active. It went from the weakest heal in the game to one of the best, but it’s not overpowered. If every Warrior started taking Healing Signet no matter what build they ran, then yes, it would be a problem. Right now it’s only viable with certain builds. Builds with high toughness, and builds that take your opponent out of the fight(stuns) to allow regen.
I would not expect to see a change to this anytime soon. Warriors were in a very bad spot in pvp for a very very long time. Right now we have something that works, and the Devs will be very cautious about what changes they make. Wolfpaq you make some good observations, but I would not expect many people to agree with you. Warriors may finally have their chance in the spotlight. If Warrior forums were Detroit, you would be shot for holding a brotha down.
Kind of dissapointed everyone is rerolling Necro. Why not stick a Warrior on an enemy Necro instead of having everyone reroll?
i’ve come to accept that my zrrkrr won’t be useful outside pve
That’s because you’re facing against players that think and adapt. Warrior is pretty balanced in PvP right now. You should try something else besides “zrrkrr”.
Yeah it was most likely a glancing blow. Weakness affects critical damage as of about a month ago.
You really just need to wait for that skull crack and weapon swap. He’s doing very low damage otherwise. Not to mention the Warrior will be on the defensive if you have stability.
I don’t run this build on my Warrior but i’ve played against it and I don’t consider it OP. I usually just sit in the stuns and wait for the Skull Crack and pop either Stability or Endure Pain and pressure them hard as they 100b the wind or me for 0 damage. You really can’t run all offensive utility/traits and expect to survive this kind of combo.
I’m pleased that Warriors are considered strong and even over powered. But it’s really just a L2Play or L2Adapt issue, because it’s not over powered.
Mending really needs to just remove all conditions, similar to Necromancers Consume Conditions. Or at least 5 as a compromise. It obviously cannot be exactly the same as Consume Conditions, which increases healing for every extra condition. It would be nice for it to remove conditions and give 1 or 2 seconds of Retaliation for each condition removed. Anything would be better than what it is now. It just doesn’t heal for enough for the utility that offers.
I have to pick certain utilities and traits to deal with certain classes. There is no reason other classes shouldn’t have to do that too. As was said many times in this thread. You cannot expect to go full damage and beat everything. You simply won’t be prepared for the odd CC Warrior that probably makes up 2% of all warriors right now.
I like downed state, but it’s definitely not balanced. I don’t know why the classes with the best stomp prevention also have the best abilities to secure stomps.
Ele can mist form and run away to buy time. They can also mist form when alive and secure a stomp while invulnerable.
Thief can shadow butt-step and stealth. They can also black powder to blind, or stealth to stomp.
Mesmer can stealth and create a clone, they can also go invulnerable to secure a stomp.
On the flip side we have Necromancer. 30pt trait for stability, 1 tick of blind, or plague form on a 120 second cd to secure a stomp. Downed state? Single target fear. Not balanced.
Thank you Jon and Allie for responding to this. It’s definitely a good thing the particle spam is being reduced, but as Steb said, Asura size is a separate issue. I think Aaron is on to so something in regards to defaulting Asura to their maximum size for PvP. Any larger and they will probably look horribly unaesthetic.
Or there is Zoose’s suggestion. Have Asura take more damage. J/K !
I used the makeover kit to shrink my Human male Warrior. I can see more of my screen, and my abilities are less telegraphed. Absolutely Asura gives you a huge advantage. You cannot see what they’re doing unless you zoom in, and you’re just screwing yourself by doing that. Their size should be limited in PvP, or their animations need to be much more obvious. Their is a reason everyone runs Asura in professional tournaments. I agree, it’s extremely bad from a viewer standpoint. This should be a high priority issue if Arena wants to succeed in the eSport scene. It’s gotten out of hand.
When using Riposte and Missile Deflection trait, you can reflect projectiles for 4+ seconds when canceling the Riposte cast. I thought nothing of it for a few weeks, but it is indeed extremely overpowered.
I’ve reported my findings in game, as well as on the forums in the past. I believe this should be fixed as soon as possible.
While we’re at it. Canceling Riposte gives the ability Adrenaline Rush. Adrenaline Rush gives adrenaline when you cancel Riposte. It only gives 3% adrenaline. This might not be working as intended.
I think Riposte/Adrenaline Rush is broken.
Canceling Riposte gives me about 3% Adrenaline, which is very close to nothing. It’s funny to see your adrenaline bar barely move.
Also if I cancel Riposte, I can keep reflecting projectiles for much longer than 2 seconds. Sometimes as much as 6 seconds. With Missile Deflection trait.
Rip does ok damage, but 1 second cast is very long. Riposte direct damage is less than auto attack. But I guess that is to be expected with almost 20 seconds of bleeding.
I love landing Final Thrust, just wish the range was slightly larger. The animation has you lunging forward, so it would make sense.
I agree with Defektive, it will take some practice to get up to standard. Warrior is in a good spot right now in PvP. It used to be down right frustrating to play. Every class is brain dead in PvE, there is no challenge there, in my opinion.
Ignore Fenrir. He thinks Warrior is still terrible, when in fact he just needs to L2P. Warrior are not free kills. I win most 1 v 1s, and I can escape if things get rough. Usually if I die or didn’t help my team as well as i could have, it’s because of how i played, not the class.
Unfortunately shout Warriors and shout Guardians are not needed with the current design of PvE encounters. Most people seem to favoring full damage or damage + some extra sustain mixed in, only sacrificing as little damage as they can. Most incoming damage from dungeons and fractals is going to come in big spike damage, so it doesn’t matter what you trait/gear for, as long as you can dodge, or at least survive one hit so you can get out.
I’d like it if encounters required at least a little bit of party healing. They got rid of the holy trinity so you wouldn’t have to rely on healers and tanks, but created a new problem. You need to do a lot of damage and keep yourself alive to be useful. Suppot, tanks, healers? Not needed.
Dhuumfire should be moved to Master tier. Powermancers won’t take it over Close to Death, and Condimancers don’t want to go that far up Spite for a Master trait in a Grandmaster slot.
People farmed Giant because it was an alternative to Fractals and dungeon running to make gold. People will always find the best way to farm for gold. It was actually good to see people in cursed shore again.
