Also I’’m not sure what some of you guys are on about. The devs communicate with us rather well, and the game is more balanced than it has been in the past. Maybe i’m just a fan boi, but I enjoy the game, and I think it has evolved nicely since beta. You can’t expect dramatic changes with the snap of a finger.

So what do you do in your employment at arenanet?

No the devs don’t communicate with us well, its called not at all, zero zip.
Dramatic changes at a snap of the fingers? the video is over a year old.

Will it take 4-5 years to give the warrior on par survivability? 7-8? 100? we dont know as we have heard zero, zip, nothing post patch.

I swing my sword (and wait for the broken animation), I swing my sword again (and wait for the broken animation), guess what? thats not fun.

I like the game despite its faults, if they fix the bad game play I might even be able to get my guild to come back. Something is wrong when highend hardcore pvp/rvr guilds just laugh and leave.

Perhaps you’ve been living under a rock so I will enlighten you. Every month we get a video stream hosted by a community member named Grouch. It’s called “State of the Game” which features at least 1 dev. They answer all types of questions, probably even some questions that you would like answered. I’ve only played a hand full of MMOs and some other games, but I have never seen developers actually communicate with the community as well as Arena Net does. Maybe what they talk about is not what you want to hear, but it’s communication nonetheless. They also let us know that they see our suggestions and complaints on the forums, and care about what we have to say. They just recently announced their team will be working on content patches with turn around times of 2 weeks. What am I missing here?

I’m aware that video is over a year old. There have been many patches and balance changes since this video. Yes it has it taken some time to get Warrior into a competitive place, but Warrior is in a very good spot now. I’m confident we will see real viability shortly. They know our #1 problem is sustainability. In the last State of the Game they mentioned some ways they will help u with this issue.

I don’t know which high-end PvP guilds are laughing and leaving the game. You might not know this, but the community plays almost equally important part as the developers do in growing and maintaining a strong community. These high-end players sound very low-class. Yes there are bugs in the game, and some quirks during combat, but I have faith they’ll be ironed out. Nothing worth throwing a fit over.

You said you are the second highest rank in your party at rank 11? Sounds like you guys are still very green. I’d get more time under your belt playing 5 v 5s and dueling. I didn’t start doing tournies until I was almost rank 20. By that time I had a better understanding of strategy and other classes mechanics.

Almost 2k damage from axe auto attack swings, and 11k Evis. There really is no reason damage should be that high, and i’m glad it’s not like that right now. If anything this video shows how little value armor has. The Guardians were taking the highest hits lol.

I agree Spiked Armor is lack luster, but it’s not awful. Unfortunately Defy pain does seem to out shine it. It’s only good on builds with medium-high survivability.

Warrior has very good damage, CC, and mobility. Very few classes can run away like a Warrior can.

All 3 heals have their place. Consume Conditions is just the best for most Necros. Blood Fiend is only usable with full Minion builds, and WoB is the best choice for bunker Necro. WoB is also a great choice for PvE.

If you guys are using #2 to pull your enemies for no reason, then you’re doing it wrong. If they’re finishing you off from a distance, don’t pull them unless your bomb is ready, or if you’re trying to peel for a teammate. Engineer downed state is not that bad, at the very least you have 2 interrupts, and by the time they get up from the bomb, you’ll have your #2 ready again. I personally think Necro has it the worst because their #3 is only a poison field.

That’s because power isn’t viable anymore. What the heck, how can people even think that doing direct damage and getting countered by weakness, protection and the fact direct damage on ranged weapons is always weak so all the anti melee effects like laying fields of AoE death at your feat, cripples, disengages etc…

And on the other side you get necro and engineer that can AoE apply at 1200 range conditions that deal easily as much damage that melee power builds can reach. And for sure a LOT more than ranged power builds.

Even funnier, you got necros that nearly completely ignore block, in a 1200 ranged AoE package while melees have to always deal with that pesky guardian or engineer block block block block block block …

Edit : forgot blind too. Sure blind affects both melee and ranged skills but ranged users have a much easier time getting rid of it and not getting the condition on them in the first place.

You’re right. There seems to be more ways to mitigate direct damage, and not enough ways to mitigate condition damage. Right now we have more conditions than boons, which means we could really use a new boon that helps deal with condition damage.

Every MMO that i’ve ever played has required different traits, different stats, and different play styles for PvE and PvP. That is an absurd reason not to PvP. I consider WvW in between PvE and PvP. Most classes require that you change at least a few traits and utilities to be successful in WvW compared to say running dungeons. I’ve only been doing PvP the last few months, and the only problem for me is that I don’t get to make any gold, and the rewards in PvP are poop. I started PvP because I liked the titles.

About the stat Allocation. I used to play Disc Priest in WoW. Dungeons, Raids, Battlegrounds, and Arena ALL required me to have different talents. This reasoning is absurd. They obviously do not know what they want.

Dhuumfire or Close to Death for hybrid build?

Running 30/0/10/0/30 with Dhuumfire instead of CtD. I typically get 5 ticks of burning, which is about 1700 damage over 5 seconds. For me it is very hard to decide between CtD and Dhuumfire. Running Golem instead of Lich and picking up Training of the Master (30% damage), the burst damage is extremely high.

I’m with you Loper. We spent the last 9 months hoping and praying for viability, viability that we now have. Please Arena Net, do not take this from us. The Necro community has struggled, protested, and fought for a chance to be made equal. I understand balance is going to be never ending, but stay true to your philosophy Arena Net, and don’t whack us back to the bottom of the hierarchy.

1. Why were the Warrior healing change proposals nixed? Warrior heals definitely need some tweaking.

2. What was the reasoning for Dhuum Fire being placed in the Necromancer Power trait line? Close to Death is still a better choice for Powermancers, but every Conditionmancer wants burning, so now everyone is running a build with massive condition damage.

3. Any ETA on better PvP rewards/incentives, and more ways to spend Glory? I’m sure you’re well aware, Glory has no importance right now. There is almost no incentive in PvP currently.

With the 20% reduction of daggers, and Tainted Shackles, you can keep players in your wells better than ever. DS 1 gives you a very viable ranged attack, and Dagger 5 / Weakening Shroud increases your survivability.Spectral Skills now work in DS. SA has a 60 second cd untraited. Wells lower CD and easier access to ground targetting. Powermancer more viable than ever.

I think that is a big change, whether you claim it or not.

Screw this build. It’s insane damage because it’s all out offensive. It may work right now, but people know how squishy the Necro is running this ridiculous build. I refuse to run it. There is no denying that it is powerful, and actually extremely respectable burst for a condition build. The only reason it’s so powerful is because Fear works as an amazing Offensive AND Defensive ability. Something is wrong when Condi burst is as good as Power burst.

It actually does put 4 stacks over time. It puts 2 stacks on initially, then after a few seconds it will get up to 4 stacks. If you Rip the sword back out too soon, you won’t get the extra stacks of bleed.

My favorite weapon is a 2H Axe. Since we don’t have that, I’ll have to go with Longbro.

-1000 Range, allows me to be a threat without being in melee.
-Burning. Need I say more?
-Blind. PvP, Blind is about as good as Aegis. Bet you didn’t think of it like that!
-Immobilize. Great for setting up burst with Arcing Arrow, Evis, 100b, Final Thrust, or Earth Shaker.
-Combo Field Fire. I love Combo Fields, and I love Fire.

I also love a traditional Sword/Board. Since the Sword buff and Shield trait change, I recently started using this setup with Longbro, and it’s a lot of fun. But Longbro is the backbone of most of my builds.

No. You need stable, continuous, strong condition removal.

For instance, warriors need 20 points in defense for cleansing Ire. And that may not be enough. Stuff like signet of stamina is useless. Even shout cleansing, probably.

How is SoS useless? It was good before, and now it’s even more valuable with the amount of condi pressure going around. The passive and the active are both extremely beneficial. It supplements Cleansing Ire nicely when you get decked out in condis A-Z Berserker Stance is also nice, but too long of a CD to be useful right now.. On top of these you should be using Melandru or Hoelbrak runes. Also any Warrior running Berserker ammy right now is nuts.

Necro and Warrior main here. I played Necro almost exclusively before this patch, but I got bored of it and picked Warrior back up and tried to make it work. I was actually having some success with a build I created. Now after the patch, my new build that I loved so much, which actually got buffed with the new changes, is now struggling to keep up with other classes. I could easily start playing Necro again, but I can just tell how powerful it is now, faceroll even, and that is not fun to me. I like to be challenged. So here I am, tweaking my Warrior to survive in this meta. I must say Warrior is in a better spot, but the changes were not drastic enough. I’m having a lot of fun, and I can hold my own, especially in 1v1, but when I run into very good players, I just feel completely out matched.

I have yet to play a tourny with my Warrior since the patch, so that will probably change my opinion when that happens. Warrior is very close to being on par with other classes, but just isn’t there yet! I know Arena is aware of the difficulties we have as a class, and I have faith we will get to shine eventually.

It was quite obvious to me, with the addition of Torment, Weakness being buffed, Necro getting Burning, Blind getting “buffed”, and other classes getting new viable builds, that it would be suicidal to not pack your build with as much condi removal as possible. When the dust settles in a month, we will see if this Necro panic sticks around. I would not say Necro damage is out of control, but conditions in general are too strong at the moment. I would even go as far to say as conditions are much stronger than boons right now.

The leg specialist nerf is unreasonable because it’s only a 1 second immobil. It was good with GS Bladetrail because it immobilized the target twice. Now you can land 1 swing if you’re lucky. It’s simply not worth picking up anymore. Other than that I think the patch has been great for Warriors. I would have liked the heal changes, but I will live without it. Fellow Warriors you need to stop being so negative, because we have new interesting mechanics to play around with.

I honestly did not realize swinging into air removed blind, so this doesn’t change anything for me. I just normally “wasted” an auto attack on target to clear the blind, or use a dodge roll as a Warrior.

I notice this with Thief and Warrior mostly. Thief game play is very fast paced, but sometimes the game cannot keep up with your actions. You end up missing a key stroke because of after cast, and it throws off your rhythm. Now play a Hammer Warrior, and you will see how the flaws in the fluidity of this game. It feels counter intuitive to have to slow down your reaction time in order to perform actions quickly.

Build I’m using

Longbow GS, Soldiers Rune with Rampager jewel. Tanky, uses Disc Banner for precision, crit, regen, and extra mobility. Replace Last Stand with Cleansing Ire, for some reason it’s not updated completely and Cleansing Ire is not listed. Good condi removal, good mobility, good damage, good survivability.

30% reduction on burst for 30 points sounds very nice. I like this suggestion. I agree with Dolan on bursts having no cooldown, but I would take the % reduction

It’s simply not worth it to solo q unless you’re a masochist. It’s nearly impossible to win when you’re down a man. How awesome does it feel knowing you’re going to lose even before the match starts? It’s not awesome, and it’s driving people away. Solo Q needs to have priority over new content.

no. because they aren’t kittens.

size matters more in a game that requires skill and aim than it does in a game where you can hit TAB and target whatever you need to.

You can not even compare the 2 games. GW2 combat has so much more depth than TF2 could ever have. It is much more complicated than target and shoot. The issue with Asura is not about targeting them, it’s about seeing their animations and their actions.

I really hope these are not what we are getting, because i’m extremely disappointed with the Warrior changes. Removing “Embrace the Pain”. I don’t understand this, this trait is actually not bad. Revamp to “Vigorous Return”, and guess what? IT’S STILL BAD! Why would anyone pick up a trait that relies on you having to be downed and then rallied? The answer is THEY WOULDN’T!!! Replace this crap trait instead of “Embrace the Pain”.

Burning Arrows: This trait now reduces the recharge of longbow abilities by 20% in addition to dealing 10% bonus damage against burning foes. – This was the best change on the list, and it’s gone.

Distracting Strikes: This trait now applies 4 stacks of confusion for 8 seconds upon interrupting an enemy. Turns a bad trait into a good one, but according to the updated list, this is gone. Very sad.

This list better be fake, because the Burning Arrows change was sexual.

Defense Grandmaster Trait: Indomitable.

I didn’t want it to be the same as those. There is no reason the warrior should have easy access to vigor/aegis.

Warrior has several ways to get Vigor, and a signet that increases endurance regen. I think Vigor is way under appreciated among fellow Warriors.

If offhand axe reflected projectiles I would probably use it, but it’s just more damage, and low damage at that.

That it doesn’t fit in your build doesn’t mean it is useless, there are plenty of ranger warriors out there that like to keep their distance. .

.. you’d think people would understand that not everything works for every build. But that’s what you get on the warrior forums, ignorant 1 build warriors that haven’t tried anything outside of a build used on the first forum thread they checked.

If it’s not full offensive zerker GS/X, Bulls Charge, Frenzy, X, then you’re not helping your team! Right?! Wrong! I use GS/Longbow, but I don’t rely on Bulls Charge to Frenzy to land burst and expecting to kill someone with that burst. That just does not work any more unless you catch someone off guard. I don’t know why people still hold onto that type of build, because it’s so easy to counter. I guess for some people it’s either do tons of damage, or do nothing at all?

i once played regen bunker type, with banner regen, healing signet, and rune. i pretty much have 3 regen ticking per sec and have banner of tactic and toughness, so it would be two heal too, guess what…cant compare with a guardian or any good bunker profs.sure when a not dps not bunker hit you, its like nothing, but when its burst or two or.more people..and..that active healing signet heals so littel its like none on a high hp build.

but dropping banner for everyone to have perma regen in group fight is actually really nice

I take Disc Banner for my banner healing (no extra healing power) build. I take Healing Signet and Adrenal Health too. You’re right there is no burst heal, because Banner o’ Tactics burst heal is absolutely horrendous, and of course Signet burst heal is crapola. These traits and skills work for a Soldiers type build, but sadly fail for bunkers. If Tactics had a nice 3k burst heal then things would be different, but unfortunately half of the heal is dedicated to more regen : \

You will have to mix and match with a jewel, for what little boost they provide, they still provide something. Knights amulet with Shaman or Soldiers jewel. You will have to think about what stats you’re picking up in your trait lines. This is a silly reason not to play pvp.

I always use Disc banner. The the amount of precision and crit % it provides is amazing. Also for Swiftness moving between pulls.

Necro focus #4 and #5 and offhand dagger #4 are the worst offenders in regards to cast fail. What helped me was increasing my mouse look speed a bit. The problem I had was turning around quick and pressing my ability only to have it fail because my camera didn’t make the full turn yet.

I agree that Frenzy is an amazing ability. If you use Longbow, you can do without Bulls Charge, it’s so predictable, and Pin Down is just as effective for landing burst.

I’ll have to agree with the others here. I love my Necro, but Engineer just provides much better team support for Warrior. Engineer running Teldo’s build for example. You get combo fields, immobilizes, epic peals, aoe healing, rez/condi removal field.

I tried quite a few variations of Longbow + Sword/Warhorn and I couldn’t make it work. I found that I was working quite hard to keep up in combat for very little reward. Maybe it’s just me, but the game feels too clunky while using this setup. I’m having tons of success with Longbow/GS. Sadly GS is just too good to not use.

I hope you’ll be able to spend your adrenaline with a burst ability without actually having to do damage. I guess we’ll find out in a few days if this change is real, and how it’s implemented. All I know is we’re going to want as much condi removal as we can get with Torment + Weakness change. Guarantee there will be lots of folks running condi specs.

To all of the people thinking these are nerfs to our damage because of Heightened Focus and Berserker’s Power, you need to let go of the incredibly weak GS/X straight damage Bulls Charge, Frenzy, X archetype. There are substantial buffs here, and you can actually do incredible damage without Bulls Charge + Frenzy with full adrenaline wearing Zerker ammy. It’s a gimmick build and it needs to die.

I’m hoping the healing changes are real. I really like Healing Signet with my build, and I don’t think it’s as bad as everyone thinks it is. It’s still not great, but it supplements my build nicely. Soldiers amulet using Disc banner for regen + Adrenal Reserves and you have decent sustain without dipping into healing power. Signet works well with runes that decrease conditions applied to you. Even though I make Signet work, I do believe the passive should get a slight boost to make it on par with the other heals. Otherwise, Mending is looking pretty sexy.

The problem is that Greatsword is basically a MUST HAVE in PvE, WvW, and PvP. Mobility in GW2 is too important to pass up. 100b is great if you can land most of it.

After playing GW2 pvp, I can’t stand other MMO pvp modes. Yes GW2 is not perfect, there are still bugs and tweaks that need to be made, but there is no denying the combat is fun as hell. I wish we had healers though, I miss healing.

It’s still good in pvp in its current form against immobilized targets, and rezzers. Sometimes you have to precast 100b when you anticipate someone is going to be in melee range. Thief for example. They shadow step out, chances are they’re going to shadow step back in melee, just in time to catch the last few hits of your 100b.

Here are 2 similar builds I’m playing around with for 1v1 situations. I think i’m on to something here.

First Build

Second Build

The first build is more damage and the second is more survivability. Both builds use Soldiers Amulet and rely on Fury and Might for increased damage. You have good sustainable health through banner regen, and Healing Signet. I know Healing Signet sucks, but so do the other 2 heals. You only really need to use the on use heal if your health is low enough to get bursted, or you have condis ticking. You want to grab your banner and try to kite your opponent until your heal comes back up in that situation. With these builds you also have good condition removal.

Pros
High Armor/Vit, Mobility, Condi Removal, Regen, Longbow range, Respectable damage, 2 immobilizes, No Bulls Charge + Frenzy bull dookie. Decent Endurance.

Cons
No Stability, No Invuln, Adrenaline and Damage ramp up time, Banner baby sitting. Healing Signet.

I encourage everyone to try this build, and improve on it if possible. After watching Teldos videos and cringing at the Warrior dueling videos, I decided to make something that could survive and still do damage.
