It’ll probably be moved to the Lore subforum, yeah. But it’s still pretty cool.
However, I dislike universes that have the same name for both a continent – especially the main continent you play on – and the planet. It’s not horribly confusing, but it’s enough to cause some annoyance. Even TES, with its spheres-within-spheres concept of the universe, was nice enough to separate Nirn and Tamriel.
I want to hear “Retreat!” so i know when to leg it
Given that it grants Swiftness, it should be called “Charge!”. The reason why I assume “retreat” was chosen was because of Aegis, but really, it makes the most sense to use a +speed and +1 free block skill when running TOWARDS the enemy.
As for shouts being audible, I think it makes more sense for Guardian shouts (a Support class) to be audible to all. Warriors are cool and stuff, but +3 Might or 1 free condi cleanse isn’t as important as +Stability or +Protection.
Base the whole thread on one picture and that a group downed another group?
Not just downed but annihilated. On top of that, we’ve deduced from the image that there’s a lot of arrows falling on the bodies… coincidence? or OP long bow.. you decide.
I saw the arrows, but is there any clue, that this arrows came from Rangers?
They can can also comes by a lot of arrow carts. This picture gives no answers about the number of players, or their classes, in both teams.
Maybe they get down by 1 ranger and 50 LB Warriors with Arcing Arrow or 5 Rangers and 100 stealthed thieves or by 4 players + a lot of Npcs with Barrage.
I can’t say it. You?PS: Also if all these people are downed by rangers is this no argument for the "OP"ness of rangers, only for mass aoe spikes.
Every group of people – not important which class – can be deadly for a group, if everyone use aoes.
Ele, Engis, Warrior, Guardians, Mesmer, Necros, Ranger or Thieves, there is no different.
Hey guys, I need a sense of humor and/or a Sarcasm Detector for my buddy, Black Teagan. The poor guy thinks someone seriously claimed Rangers were OP!
There’s way too much logic for him to be sarcastic, though.
Since the Greatsword’s Burst skill is useless, Adrenaline is clearly broken. True Warrs use GS.
Hmm, yeah, taking the condi approach; I’ll try that. For Humble Victor against Deadeye, I can dodge his Headshot, but then his volley usually gets me down, so I’ll try your gear/build. Thanks for the tips.
Why do people seem to think nothing permanent was added in S1? Because TA Aetherpath is hard/annoying and no one runs it, so it wasn’t actually added? That wasn’t all that was added. You don’t need a whole new zone (though it seems like we’re getting at least one with S2) to add more Dynamic Events/Renown Hearts, Jumping Puzzles, etc, which ANet did in S1. I saw enough changes upon my return – like kittening Lion’s Arch being completely destroyed, the new Events/ruins of the Nightmare Tower in Kessex Hills, the Aetherblade JP – to know that, hey, something happened in the time I was gone. I didn’t need a whole new zone to understand that ANet had actually updated their game.
On the topic of temporary content though, I like that they’re bringing at least some of it back (Festival of the Four Winds, maybe Dragon Bash) so that I can get those achievements I missed. They should continue in this way, so long as it makes sense story-wise.
Even if the story part of S2 is temporary, ANet may increase the time you have to experience this content. 2 weeks is a bit short, but a month is better. The question is, will people get bored of it or will it offer enough rewards to keep them interested for all that time? Hopefully.
This was posted on a “nerf Teq omg too hard” thread right here in the forums. It expresses my opinion perfectly. Props, Azhure!
Personally I like the buff. Tequatl is a bloody DRAGON. It should be as hard as it possibly can be. I’d be for buffs on the other dragons.
Its not very gratifying to attack a dragon’s foot, taking no damage, and kill said dragon in 5 minutes. Looking at you Shatterer!
Yeah, it’s kind of weird that they are absent. But I’d rather they add new emotes.
Something I’ve been pondering: This might just be the case for Festival of the Four Winds, since it’s a gap that ANet needs to get S2 content ready. Or, it 1 month could be the standard length for all S2 content, which would seemingly be a lesson learned from S1 (in addition to permanent content that remains after the LS episodes, which has already been confirmed).
We’ll have to wait and see.
Solution: All male charr outfits can be used for females, too. They’re not that different anatomically besides their faces. In fact, I can’t tell the average female charr from a male one if I can’t see her face.
I +1’d the OP because he made me laugh so much. Is that how it works?
I don’t mind old content coming back to let others have a chance at completing it. What I do wish, however, is that ANet would add a completion date for achievements and make them linkable, so you could say, “Yeah, I did Liadri last year, before she got nerfed” (assuming she had gotten nerfed; purely hypothetical situation). Then, your status would still be intact because there’d be a way to show your skill.
OP: I agree, people being told… DONT HELP, NO ONE ELSE COME TO (what ever boss), Etc. Then later on we get the. More mindless people coming to X it’s a fail, and it just get’s worse from that point.
I tried to help in a organized run; we did fine with me and 7 others at boom. The next try we had 4 new people insist on doing boom; all the other bosses had 12 or so (the max our current self appointed map leader wanted per boss) so I ended up sitting out to “help”. I suppose it’s team work of a sort, but I don’t think many people log in to work together with others by sitting out, and being told to sit at the center pad and wait.
It’s a question of inclusive play or exclusive play, I thought GW2 was aiming for inclusive, the boss blitz on the other hand…
Tell that self appointed leader to sit out if he feels it’s that important. Watch him say no. Then ignore him and go help wherever you can, ideally whoever is shortest on people. Each boss can handle at least 15 easily. Like I posted earlier, we were getting shurakk down in 2-3mins with 15 a few times last night. 3-4 hours last night, full map the whole time, 18 golds in a row, never had issues where people were told to GTFO, told to move from one boss to another sure, but there was always somewhere where people could go.
In my experience, 15 is the limit for minimum headaches/scaling. Aiming for 10-15 is much better, depending on how full the map is.
@Miku: That map leader wanted 12 – better safe than sorry – but again, you can go up to 15. You may be told to sit in the center if there’s a round in progress, but generally before the next one starts, you can pick which boss you’d like to do; there’ll only be a problem if there’s too many people for that boss. Then, they won’t single you out and say “MOVE!” unless you’re a Mesmer/Guardian and Pyro doesn’t have enough reflects, or you’re a Necro/Engi and Boom has no poisoners; they’ll just say, “Can 1-2 to go X boss?” and you can volunteer, or let others do it.
I don’t know if you were including this part, but being asked to stay in the center after you’ve finished your boss is not ridiculous, exclusive, etc. at all. I hope you agree with that part. Boss Blitz, much like Teq/Great Jungle Wurm, is an event where if you listen to someone organizing (who knows what he’s doing) and play your part, you’ll get tons of loot. It’s as simple as that.
OMG WORLD BOSSES/CHAMP TRAINS ARE JUST ZERGFESTS = rage
OMG ZERG DOESN’T WORK IN BOSS BLITZ = rage
I see.
Yep, bout ready to throw my comp out the window.
Has any Warrior managed to complete these? If so, which bosses did you use? I’ve gotten close multiple times on High Stakes Gambler, using the no dodge, on fire, take more damage, crippled, and SURPRISE QUAGGAN ENEMY gambits on Subject 7. I get the ooze down to about 5% health, but seem to die just then.
is basically what I’m trying to replicate.
As for Humble Victor, maybe if I can do High Stakes Gambler, I can do that as well. But I was more wondering which boss would be optimal to try.
Edit: Nevermind (sorta); got High Stakes Gambler after trying it a few more times. I recommend that YouTube vid!
Humble Victor is still tough, because you do less DPS… so, still looking for tips on that one.

Must’ve been a secret Longbow buff, because everyone knows Ranger Longbow is the most useless, weak, and terribad weapon in the game, in every situation and for every possible reason except “Well, it looks cool and Rangers should use bows.”
That’s why the best MMOs only have humans, or cat-humans, or dog-humans, or rock-humans, or robot-humans, or cow-humans, or pointy-eared humans, all of which are close in proportions. Completely eliminates problems like this.
The only exception is WoW’s gnomes because they are so puntable, and they have afros.
Maybe they should give us a bar which lets us sprint for a set amount of time
WildStar has this, and – you guessed it – people complain. Why? “I don’t want to have to hold down the Sprint key to go faster ;______;111!11! My finger hurts!11!11!!” To be fair, people feel like they have to sprint because WS’s mounts are SLOW (I hope Carbine has patched this). But mounts have sprint, too, so the issue isn’t really resolved.
GW2 is doing it the right way in terms of passive speed buffs + instant teleportation.
Edit: Yes, part of me wants to ride a dolyak or a (giant) quaggan. But y’know what? Not enough for me to complain that I CAN’T ride a dolyak or a (giant) quaggan. I understand the issues mounts would introduce unless ANet went ahead and revamped their entire movement system, which is far less important than some other things that are in need of a revamp (or, at least, major changes).

OH GOD NO I CAN’T BE PRO IF THERE’S NEW GEAR WITH 3-5% STAT INCREASE THAT I DON’T HAVE
runs around in circles whilst raising my pitchfork and rallying the poor townspeople
If the stat gap is similar to Exotic -> Legendary/Ascended, I won’t mind one bit. The biggest complaint will be that it’s “pointless”, but for those who want it, it’ll be there. My concern is how difficult it’ll be to get this new gear, because the current PvE isn’t really difficult enough to warrant better rewards and I don’t know if we want more grinding/crafting methods of progression.
Also, this wasn’t “announced”, “confirmed”, or anything else. This was one dev saying something in-game.
There’s an easy solution. Since “noob” is very versatile and can be applied to a lot of different contexts, go by these rules of thumb:
1) If you’re saying you’re new at something, use “newb” or “newbie”, as it is the original form of the word.
2) If you’re using noob jokingly, please put a smiley or “jk!” afterwards.
3) If you’re really calling someone bad, call them bad. Idiot, kitten, scrub, baddie, Stink McStankmaster, etc.; use something more direct so they know you’re not kidding.
Obviously, the only reportable scenario would be #3.
Give me super-heavy armor which is basically like an exo-suit, while you’re at it. “Heavy” is not heavy enough.
Haha, the name. I must listen to this podcast… for Great Justice.
And why is this posted in the Profession Balance section
https://forum-en.gw2archive.eu/forum/professions/warrior/The-YOLO-Frenzy-Troll-Build/
In some games this may mean a long journey of questing, crafting, and hardcore raiding was done to obtain them. In gw2 it means you literally farmed your thumbprints off, collecting mats as far as the eye can see. Legendaries are cool but the way to obtain them has always put me off and I think made the items more of a tier than an actual feat.
Even if he had gone on a long journey of questing, crafting, and hardcore raiding, I’m sure there’d still be the “Nope just attention grabbing” and “lol nerd go outside” posts. The fact is, he has all the Legendaries, and I don’t, so I’m going to congratulate him on such a feat.
Grats!
It’s cool that they’re doing some type of update right after the China launch, even if it’s reintroducing old content. I wasn’t here the first time it was released, so I’m more than happy to play it now. I’m also interested in any other changes/fixes coming with the patch… I hope ANet releases some with every update.
So how can you say that “zerker” isn’t a build when it’s clearly PART of a build?
Didn’t you just answer your own question?
It comes across a bit more clearly in the example I provided. Again, in a post that may or may not be serious, I was trying to defend the close association Berserker gear has with the max DPS/speedclear meta builds, and how are those defined? By the numerical Trait distribution. Yet Traits are only one part of a build, just like gear, so if they can be associated with a particular build, why can’t the gear? If I have zerker gear, I’m going with a DPS build. If I have PVT gear, I’m going with a different kind of build. So on, so forth. Everyone knows what you mean when you say “zerker build”.
This is completely doable in a pug group Jeff. It’s not easy. It is by no means a stand and spam 1 boss, but it can be done. This event does not need dumbing down, it simply takes knowledge and coordination.
Honestly, I hope a few more of the World Bosses get a ‘Tequatl’ like revamp…
THIS. All of this. At the very least, it’d be cool to see all dragons on-par with Tequatl, because they’re supposed to be the lieutenants of the most kitten threats to Tyria in the history of history. Only Tequatl, and possibly the Claw of Jormag if you stand in the blue ice, feel that way.
Excuse me, but isn’t a build a COMBINATION of your gear, traits, maybe even consumables?? So how can you say that “zerker” isn’t a build when it’s clearly PART of a build?
Let’s look at it this way. Take any of the dungeon speedclearing metas and subtract Berserker gear. Do they work? Of course not. Well, people can’t keep saying 0/1/2/3/4/5 or 50/106/140/2340/5190?? or PX/90/E=MC2 when talking about these meta builds. So they call them, collectively, “zerker.” What’s wrong with that?
I blame ANet’s lack of tools to bundle builds into convenient packages that can be easily named. Call it “TEH SMASHWRECKER” and link to gw2skills.net, which has all the parts of the build (including gear).
This post may or may not be serious. Hail Berserker.
If you could send an invite my way, I’d appreciate it! I recently returned and while I’ve run through Story Mode in each dungeon, I’m way behind on the Explorable paths and Fractals.
Edit: Forgot to put which region. NA!
(edited by Corax.7381)
1 level 80. 1 character with 100% completion. I like to keep it simple!
Because apparently, Rangers have (ultra-useful, super-amazing) pets, which means their weapons can’t do as much straight up damage as other classes. Still, I agree there should be a bit more utility included with Longbow abilities. It needs more usefulness than “sniping”, which it’s not even amazing at.
Empty PvE zones, bad. Empty cities? Even worse. There was always going to be a transition period, because GW2 didn’t start off with its MegaServer system. I think there’s still opportunity to have communities and different things – in fact, you’ll have a lot more people to include – but it’ll take some effort to adjust. If the MegaServer tries to group players by guild membership and such, it should reliably place you with the people you were used to seeing. If it doesn’t, it just means it still needs to be tweaked, which ANet made clear.
As for the server identity thing, well, it’s not really there outside of WvW (and that’s where it matters the most, so I’m fine with that).
How about cloaks!?
I am having a hard time deciding on what back skin to use on my new asura warrior. I’m using full vigil armor, and I think a cloak would go perfectly with it, but for now I just have the back item hidden.
I don’t really get… Why do you care about armour if 90% of your char’s body will always be hidden by cloaks/capes for 90% of your game time?
1. If anything, it’s more like 50% (or 40%, if you wear a helmet).
2. You can turn the camera to see the full package of how your armor matches with your cape/cloak.
I’ve seen only one armor (so far) that had some type of cape built in – I think it was norn cultural armor – and it was awesome. My Warrior has his Draconic legs, and that’s sort of a half-cape. I understand why ANet doesn’t want to put in capes, but they’ve shown they’re able to integrate some back items made of cloth in a smooth fashion. I also don’t think we need more wings; lots of people running around with the mechanical/holographic ones, which don’t look that out of place.
Yeah, I hadn’t gotten one since returning but now that MegaServer is fully operational, they come pretty frequently. What’s sad is they’re not even normal bot names; they’re legible names, which means some people were pretty silly with their account security.
Im heterosexual, and my MMO characters are almost always females.
Females usually have the sexiest looking armor and tbh,
if i am going to spend long hours looking at a character’s behind,
it might as well be a female’s behind.I’ve heard this argument with some frequency, and part of me dies every time.
Me too, but probably not for the same reasons as you. I can just imagine…
Player dies in PvE
“Sorry, distracted by my character’s bum.”
Player dies in PvP
“Sorry, distracted by my character’s bum.”
Player says the game is ugly with no beautiful environments
“Sorry, distracted by my character’s bum.”
That’s what I imagine whenever I hear the argument. There are so many things to look at besides your character’s bum, at least when you’re actively playing the game. Standing around in a city, I can understand.
Can I use a pig and call my build “hambow”? So I can pretend I’m a Warrior?
Anyone have a link to this CDI thing? I just started a new Ranger and I’m interested in all the discussions and opinions on the class, as well as what might be in store in the future.
Eh, only the norn males look uglier than the females to me (both in terms of physical models and armor). Just fix their shoulders/necks, ANet… it’s not supposed to be triangular.
I agree with the points TheDaiBish and Pleurodesed bring up. If DPS is the only thing that matters, fights get boring fast. With GW2’s combat system, I don’t know if they can make a significant change so that there’s more involved than just burning down the health bar. They could certainly make it so that Control/Support/Utility (non-damage) Conditions have more of a place in fights. But I would personally like to see different mechanics for some dungeons, such as the turrets in Tequatl or the environmental tools in Great Jungle Wurm.
After the megaserver implementation, those two fights have >90% fail rate because they require more than just DPS. Yet they’re not impossible, since organized groups can regularly succeed. Of course, not every dungeon can be modified to be like Teq/GJW and in the end, there’s going to be easier ones. So rate those dungeons lower (in terms of difficulty) and nerf their rewards. Make tougher, more involved dungeons better for gold, drops, and tokens. Ultimately, the community will do their calculations and decide whether or not completing an easy dungeon multiple times is more efficient than doing a harder one a few times. ANet would have to make sure that it’s not.
I don’t know anything besides “content’s on hold until the China release is done.”
Pre-order players will start in 3 days on May 1st and the game opens on May 15th. Almost there!
Thanks for the update! I didn’t know what the status of that was.
Hasn’t happened to me yet, kills take between 2-3 minutes. But that’s obviously crazy (and bugged).
I don’t know anything besides “content’s on hold until the China release is done.”
being able to wear costumes in combat
swimsuit
YEAH MAN GONNA KEEL DIS BAWSS IN MAH SPEEDO
Well, I’m not opposed to having a swimsuit available, but why’d you have to point out the (horrid) possibility of seeing it in combat?
There’s little reason NOT to add something like this in, but WHEN it’ll come is a different question. I hope soon (after the China release), since ANet made respeccing free and convenient.
I’m not gonna comment too much on this, since I recently returned and I don’t know nearly enough about the topic. From what I’ve read, my only thought is why condi-removal abilities don’t also apply a brief immunity. Even something like 3 seconds seems like it’d help, if the problem is that conditions get spammed so easily that they’re right back on you (in bulk) right away. Perhaps it would only protect against damaging conditions, and not utility ones like Blind, Weakness, etc., since those seem less prevalent anyways.
Killed Tequatl with 0:00 left; only kill I’ve gotten after the Megaserver patch :P.
Found a new helm for my war.:P
It works because the charr probably killed and skinned that hat.
:D
I hope the merchant sells some to me ;_;
These are all good suggestions, and I’d like to see most of them in the game at some point, but I don’t think they should come in a single patch. Even if it were possible, it would result in some very plausible outcomes:
1) The time that it’d take to develop would cause a bunch of unrest about the lack of new content.
2) The bugs introduced would likely not outweigh the progress made, but would still be noticeable enough to complain about.
I don’t know if ANet is doing this already, or if small QoL improvements were consistently pushed out with LS1 updates (the most noticeable thing I saw upon my return was the change to how Renown Heart rewards are delivered), but that’s how they should approach it: With each content patch, you also fix bugs and you do a batch of these smaller, yet highly appreciated, tweaks. Another studio calls them “ninja fixes”.
