FIVE MINUTE HYPE!
Just hopping in here to say that in Tyria, magic isn’t just some flashy stuff old men with long beards conjure up for birthday parties. Magic infuses everyone and everything, so you can’t be an edgy “I ESCHEW MAGIC TO KILL MY ENEMIES” Warrior because, whether you like it or not, the techniques and abilities you use are infused with some level of magic. Do you really think your shouts and pieces of cloth on wooden frames are so powerful because they’re cool? No, there’s magic involved.
I appreciated the gesture, but I would’ve liked a few days’ notice so that people could make a reasonable effort to log in and claim the thing. This thread makes me realize why the gift was so… meager: if it was something juicy, then everyone who missed it would be up in arms about it.
Let me just say that if Elonians had accents in GW1, they should still have them now. However, “this area is Middle Eastern, so the people there should have Middle Eastern accents” is a pretty lazy line of reasoning.
Accents happen when someone speaks a language different than the one they’ve been speaking since birth, or when a strong local dialect has saturated their speech. In either case, you’d have to ask why an Elonian would sound like an African or Middle Eastern person. Do they speak Arabic in Elona? If not, then what does the Elonian language sound like? Is it similar enough to “common speech” that someone speaking the common tongue wouldn’t have much of an accent? What kind of dialect exists in Elona so that they should sound like Arabic people? These are questions that are probably too complex and unnecessary for an MMO: “desert = desert people!” works just fine. However, they’re interesting to think about if you want to go for a deep dive into fantasy world creation.
Is it “Elonian” or “Elonan”? Bah.
- a level boost for my new character (because I’m keeping Elite 1 and want Elite 2)
Off-topic, but don’t you think it’s really a bad thing that, in order to experience a new Elite specialization without excessive annoyance, you feel as if you have to create a new character? Can ANet PLEASE give us even a half-measure solution to this?! Yes, I’m speaking of build templates.
On-topic: I’m fine with it. I was a bit salty when HoT was announced and it seemed like veterans would get, well, not much of anything, despite feeling like they paid for the game twice. But it’s important to remember that when we coughed up $60 for Guild Wars 2 at launch, we got to experience that Core Tyria content for 3 years. Having to pay for expansions should have been expected, given how straightforward the B2P model is.
When it comes to Revenant specifically, it would have looked very bad to sell the Renegade Elite spec with PoF while selling the class that is required to use it with HoT. Honestly, I’d be fine with the Revenant being made available to F2P players. The only hiccup with that is, lorewise, they didn’t appear until the events in the Maguuma jungle, but hey; anachronisms exist in every MMO.
“As for possessing objects of not asura origin or created…’”
Wouldn’t this be “as for possessing objects not of asuran origin”? Well, just a typo I’m sure, not an intentionally incorrect usage.
At least asura have a proper possessive adjective. The other four races don’t. Human ruins, sylvari clothing, norn weapons, charr catnip… I’m not sure how I feel about it, personally. Traditional fantasy has elven (or elvish) archers and dwarven/dwarfen warriors. Even orcish hordes (and goblin whelps, I suppose). Being in no way an expert when it comes to grammar, I’m both okay and not okay with it. At this point, I think it’s up to the Rule of Cool when deciding which direction you should go with it.
Edit: I’m, like, 99.9% sure “krewes” is grammatically correct and acknowledged as grammatically correct by the game. If it’s not, that would be… odd…
I agree. Instead of some horrid rabbit abomination, we should be able to ride those cool gazelle-centaurs that were supposedly in GW1.
There’s more to an MMO than running around actually playing the game. Want to show off your sylvari bioluminescence or charr fur patterns? Stand in a city for a few hours naked. No one will bat an eye. You might even get some… like-minded individuals to join in. Then, when you’re done with that, strap on that body-conforming, oppressively sexist full plate set and smash some heads.
Just a quick note on why ANet would put cool lore or story progression in raids: because they deserve it. If raids are envisioned as the most challenging content in the game, then, lore-wise, the characters and beings that pose that challenge have to possess enough power to be challenging. Like someone posted above, sure, ANet could say Cthulhu found Tyria through the Mists and decided to invade, but that would be far less interesting and meaningful to a Guild Wars (2) player than the White Mantle or Saul D’Alessio being involved. If a raider doesn’t care about the lore, that’s fine. You can’t make something based on what people don’t care about; you have to make it based on what you care about. ANet cares about creating a fantasy world, and so they’re not going to (intentionally) ignore the lore in the playable content they create.
I doubt it will happen. I think that this is more complicated to implement than we imagine. But even if it is dead simple, they stated with the leg armor release that they want to give each armor weight a distinct profile. And part of mediums profile is trenchcoats. So ANet wants medium armor to have trenchcoats for some reason :/
Those are all excuses from ANet, as you can wear an outfit that will completely cover your visual profession identity in PvP and everywhere.
Frankly, I have a feeling that some designer at ANet is getting a kick out of angering us with trenchcoats, because they know a majority of players hate them.
Look at the ranger profession in GW1 and then tell me that trenchcoats are a necessity to identify that profession. It’s a shameless lie.
Where’d you get profession from? Ori said armor weights, not professions. They’re right. ANet’s art style says Light armor is typically some combination of graceful, flowing, or elegant; Medium armor is rugged, durable, or versatile; and Heavy armor is solid, bulky, or intimidating. There are exceptions and other adjectives for each weight, of course, but those are the first attributes that come to mind.
Trenchcoats, as ugly as they may be sometimes, are definitely rugged, durable, or versatile. Buttcapes specifically serve as a half-measure replacement for actual capes, which can’t be added because clipping or some other technical reason.
My fashion pet peeve is asymmetrical armor – typically with pauldrons, but honestly with any part of an outfit (see the new Tyrian outfit’s half-skirt for a good example). If ANet makes trenchcoats/buttcapes toggleable, I hope they do the same for asymmetry.
Discord is better for communities that are actual communities outside of whatever they’re using voice comms to do. For instance, a raiding guild that uses Discord voice during raids, but that wants to be a group of friends and do content other than raids. Also, they want a place to post dank memes. WvW isn’t like that. You hop on, get organized, get rewards, and get out. Not saying you can’t make friends while doing it, but WvW doesn’t need Discord to accomplish what it wants to accomplish.
The main thing Discord replaces for me is actually not a VoIP program, but a forum. You can have separate text channels, sticky posts, moderate, and add (emote) reactions. The only real difference is that the nature of the program means people are more likely to write succinct messages instead of wall-of-text monstrosities, which might actually be a better thing if you think about it.

Never played GW1, but I support any weapon designs that are more realistic than the toy weapons we sometimes get.
Not like this isn’t the millionth thread on “how to fix raids” and “why raids are evil things that are ANet’s biggest regret!”, but, well, this is the first one I’ve seen today, so I might as well post here. Since there are several conversation points, I’ll knock ’em out checklist-style.
Are raids bad? No. They’re content that requires teamwork and/or skill to complete, which means not everyone will be able to complete them. Saying this is wrong is rather silly, since PvP and WvW are also content that require teamwork and/or skill to complete. The only content that doesn’t require teamwork and/or some modicum of skill to complete is Core Tyria’s open world. When looking at it in comparison to all of the aforementioned content, Core Tyria’s open world isn’t as overwhelming a percentage as you might expect.
Should raids have different difficulties? Yes, actually. This is a tough debate with good points on both sides. The way I see it, you’ve got one of the most casual MMOs in history, and the vast majority of GW2 players are intimidated by raids or ignorant on how raiding actually works. They need to be hand-held across stepping stones if they’re ever going to get into it. World of Warcraft saw fit to modify its difficulties into, basically, four tiers: LFR, for people who do not want to be organized whatsoever; Normal, for the average family & friends guild group that just wants to play together sometimes; Heroic, for the average raiding guild that has raiding as its primary focus; and Mythic, for the high-end raiding guilds. To compare them to GW2, LFR is zerging a World Boss, Normal is a high-end Fractal, and actual raids are somewhere between Normal and Heroic.
When designing difficulties, the mechanics should stay the same but the damage/punishment should be different. Also, harder modes should have more mechanics. GW2 only needs two modes, as others here have suggested: a “story” mode and a normal mode, or a normal mode with a (more extensive) Challenge Mode. I’d prefer the latter, for a more distinct separation (no one would expect something with “challenge” in its name to be easy). GW2 doesn’t need LFR or Mythic.
For GW2’s Normal, I’d expect all the mechanics in each fight to be present, but kill timers would be more generous. I’d expect one-shot mechanics to instead deal a percentage of health as damage (e.g., 75%). I’d expect any mechanics that require people to perform certain duties to be present, but more lenient (like they have more time to get to a certain spot, run away from the group, or to kill an add). For the Challenge Mode, I’d expect what we have now, with an additional mechanic – one that emphasizes teamwork and communication – for each boss.
Obviously, implementing all of that will require a lot of work, so I don’t expect to see it. Ultimately, I hope the general GW2 community stops being scared of raiding and gives it a shot; if they can’t or are unwilling to put forth the effort and practice required to get better, then they won’t be successful. Thing is, they may find that it requires less effort and practice than they fear, but they’ll never know unless they try. More people than I’d certainly ever expect seem to raid, which means ANet didn’t make them as hard as they could have.
Is PUGing raids stupid? Yes. Find or make a guild. It’s the better option in any MMO with raiding.
I agree that there should be some alternative way to obtain HoT stat combos. While getting a crafting profession to 400 isn’t hard or costly (depending on how fast you want it), it can certainly be boring and monotonous. If someone prefers to spend their game time doing open world PvE, why not let them work their way towards obtaining HoT stat combos while they’re at it?
If you’re going to throw them on a vendor, I’d say make that vendor fairly exclusive. HoT stat combos are meant to perform better at their intended role than CT ones (e.g., Viper’s is supposed to be better for offensive Condi damage than anything CT offers), or to provide a bit of flexibility where there was none before (e.g., Marauder’s being decently offensive while padding that health orb). Allowing people to buy them from the first NPC they find in Verdant Brink wouldn’t be appropriate. Lock the vendor behind Masteries, achievements, or zone-specific currency. Maybe tokens as well, like how Chak Eggs are required to buy Chak weapons.
Alternatively, remove the account-bound restriction and allow people to put HoT stat items on the TP. Of course, put a note in the tooltip (or, even better, an automatic search filter) that says, “You must own the Heart of Thorns expansion to use this item”.
On a separate but related note, I’d love if tooltips included the prefix name (even on trinkets) just below the rarity.

I’m pretty indifferent to S3, both liking and disliking many of its aspects for different reasons. Overall, I agree with the sentiment that it was rushed and would have benefited from an extra chapter or two. ANet felt, rightfully so, like they had to simultaneously explain the consequences of killing two Elder Dragons and set up the next major conflict in the saga of Tyria. I’m fine with that conflict NOT being against another Elder Dragon, at least initially, but introducing Balthazar so early might have been unwise.
I’d have started the same way: reintroduce the White Mantle and the apparent resurrection of Lazarus. Allow Caudecus to develop as the antagonist while exploring the effects of Zhaitan and Mordremoth’s deaths on both the world and other dragon minions. Continue to cast doubt about Lazarus and his true purpose as Caudecus makes his move against Divinity’s Reach and fails. Then, allow Taimi to make her revelation about how to deal with the remaining Elder Dragons.
The major changes would be that Jormag and Primordus don’t suddenly “become more active”, or however they worded it in the story since both have been awake for decades. Yes, a massive surplus of magic would logically cause them to do, well, something, but it didn’t have to be so soon. It could have been tackled in Season 4, with plenty of hints and foreboding being sprinkled throughout S3. Additionally, Balthazar’s identity would not be revealed until the very last chapter, giving us a reason to go to the Crystal Desert but without shoehorning in the real Lazarus. Kerida could have tracked Balthazar as Lazarus, thinking he might be the real deal, so she could still be in the story. Then, PoF would deal with Balthazar as the main antagonist, Palawa Joko as a minor one, and Kralkatorrik as the looming threat to be dealt with in Season 4.
If I had to say the most disappointing thing about S3, it’d be how easily we, by way of the Terrific Taimi and her Miracle Machine, dispatched two EDs at the same time. What a letdown.
I’m still waiting for a double Shield-wielding spec.
I do wish Holosmith could use an off-hand Sword. Engi off-hand weapons aren’t very good for Power damage unless Shield is secretly amazing.
(edited by Corax.7381)
GW2 PTR. Awwww yeeeaaaah.
People will buy PoF when LS4 is announced if they care about LS only. They’ll buy PoF when a new raid is announced if they care about raiding only. They’ll already have PoF if they care about the things the average player cares about: new content, gameplay systems, and elite specs. No revenue is being lost unless the expansion sucks so much that no one buys it, for any reason, after 9/22.
We need SOMETHING. Whatever is easiest for ANet. I’ll take a kitten feature that only swaps traits and utility skills over a fully functional everything-swapper that might not ever exist. It’s not THAT hard to swap gear, just annoying.
If they’re going to insist on giving me build choices, they should make it much less aggravating to switch between those options regularly. I like to adapt to whatever content fits my fancy at a particular moment.
Instead of all those, I’d like an “all but one” right-click option for depositing or withdrawing items from the bank. Alt-dragging and entering a number is annoying when transferring dozens of stacks of champ/gear bags to a lower level alt for salvaging. The alternative, of course, is to deposit all and have a messy, disorganized inventory every time I run SW or HoT map metas. Not very appealing.
Haven’t played it myself (duh), but I wonder if Spellbreaker will have any tanking potential. As others have said here, GW2 tanks aren’t picked for their survivability so much as what additional group utility they provide; you only have 10 spots, after all. Warrior obviously provides group utility, but if they simply DPS better than they tank, or if Chronos DPS worse than they tank, then there’s not much sense in swapping them. I mention it only because Spellbreaker seems to be a defensive/counterattack-focused spec that would fit the traditional tank functionality: “absorb or mitigate incoming damage”.
Maybe one day, we’ll have a traditional heavy armor, sword-n-board tank out there. But I somehow doubt it. ANet loves being different.
Because, Raine, sometimes “balance” patches are an opportunity for the developer to change how a spec functions at a core level. It seems that, in your perfect world, every spec is 100% functional, smooth, and fun, and all that needs to be adjusted are simple percentages. Sadly, this is not reality. If a spec does not play well in the eyes of most players, the developer is obligated to change it. If a spec does not fit the developer’s design philosophy, either current or future, and they wish to change it – regardless of what players think – then that’s also their right. Ultimately, you’re playing their game, not yours.
The Berserker Power change was meant to encourage a different gameplay style for Warrior. ANet wants Warriors feeling better about using bursts at less than 3 Adrenaline, for whatever reason – perhaps because of Spellbreaker, or perhaps because they just felt like having 3 Adrenaline bars was pointless when only 3 (or 1, during Berserk) were ever used. Was the change less then ideal for current balance? Of course. Should ANet change Primal Bursts so that they give the bonus of 3 bars, not 1? Obviously. But the change itself had nothing to do with balance – yet it was done anyways. Ask yourself why. No, the answer isn’t “to drive away customers!”.
As a side note, Blizzard was notoriously bad at balancing during Cataclysm.
The kitty tag isn’t some weird apple thing or a differently colored dorito. The kitty tag is a cat. People love cats… to a stupid degree sometimes. Stupid enough to put on their kitty tag while having their pet cat out and spamming “neko neko” in /map. Who knows?! I certainly hope the novelty will wear off at some point, but you can’t compare cats to fruit or wavelengths of light.
What’s Balthazar’s opinion of zealotry? I ask because some random merc chatter in Draconis Mons seems to suggest that Balth discarded the White Mantle because of their fanaticism. True, those mercs could have been referring to the Mantle’s devotion to the mursaat, specifically, and not the human gods, which is why Balth got rid of them. But what if Balthazar disdains zealotry as a whole, even in his name? What if he no longer wishes to be worshipped, at least until he can accomplish his goal of regaining his power? It might explain why he didn’t go to Divinity’s Reach.
Woo! You’re da real MVP.
How are the animations on a male sylvari? I made a new Thief because of Daredevil, so it’s not too late to delete it and start over if necessary.
Gathering tools are still a thing, yeah? This guy should just delete all of his logging axes forever.
I want to roleplay as a Transformer in Tyria and the heavy Legendary armor finally lets me do that. You can take your unsavory negativity elsewhere, bro.
But no, really. If you wanted “realistic” armor sets, you came to the wrong game.
What the kitten is a doggie move?
It’d be pure evil if it didn’t have checkpoints. As it is, it’s annoying, not evil.
A… Practice Mode? Bleh.
To me, it sounds like ANet could take steps to reduce the basic difficulty of these fights while also introducing optional hardmodes. Activating a switch, leaving a mob alive, choosing a different path; some way to alter a boss fight with new mechanics and better rewards, including Achievements, titles, and unique skins. In all likelihood, it’s too late to do this for the first raid, but perhaps in the next one.
I agree with the overall sentiment that people who don’t want to raid won’t raid under any circumstances. People who want to raid but who are intimidated by them need a support channel to help them out; in every successful MMO, this has been provided by guilds. It has to be the same in GW2. Let them attempt the “real” raids, but with a helpful and positive group of people. Not kitten PUGs.
I judge people based purely on their appearances. Meaning if they have ugly armor or weapon skins, I don’t associate with them at all. I might even be a jerk about it.
Are you going to ask for a way to hide your appearances to thwart people like me?
No, you’re going to tell me I’m an idiot because my opinion doesn’t equal fact. It’s the same exact thing with Mastery Points, AP, or anything else in this casual game. GW2 is not based around numbers and gear; therefore, a metric like item level – which lets you judge whether people can perform at a glance – is not needed. There’s no way to know whether someone can play their class or execute fight mechanics at a glance; you must see them in action. At best, low MP/AP serves as a “warning signal”, but as long as you have any Masteries required for a fight, you’re fine.
You’re asking for the option, but as others have said, it doesn’t solve the problem you’re having. An option that doesn’t solve anything is a useless option.
I didn’t really mind the single tab until I hit 80 (with multiple characters). Now, I think providing more immediately rewarding methods of consumption for excess Dragonite Ore, Bloodstone Dust, and Empyreal Fragments would free up (greaterthanorequalto)40% of bank space for 99.99% of players.
Engineer. It’s slightly frustrating for beginners when you’re trying to learn the super-mega-optimal DPS rotation, but you can do a less complex rotation while sacrificing only a little bit of damage, and you’ll still be a top 3 damage dealer. The key thing that made me suggest Engi was “… has a certain skill cap and stuff you can get better at”.
I’d also suggest Ele, but it’s the most OP class. Warrior deals decent damage and has good group buffing utility, but is very simple and, to some, boring to play.
Really, Thief would seem to be your best choice. Why dismiss it right away?
Plus one!!
<.< Message Body length must at least be 15. >.>
Having this new thread without any actual information on what the new system will bring just invites the recreation of the last one, with the same posts and conversations and complaints as the last one.
Here’s the situation, as Gaile pointed out above.
The old thread was redundant, non-constructive, and, ultimately, irrelevant, because Colin posted saying that ANet is working on a new Trait system and that some player feedback had been taken into account when developing that system. Therefore, there was absolutely nothing of value that could be added to that thread, which is why Gaile said she should’ve closed it right when Colin posted.
However, imagine the rage at the travesty of closing that thread WITHOUT opening another thread focused on Traits feedback. Why, the forums would explode! Players would launch their own personal vendettas against ANet, or further embellish the ones they’ve already begun.
So, Gaile opened this new thread. Yes, there aren’t any new facts or concrete details we can discuss – right now. Which is why she suggested to step away from the entire topic for a while, instead of going through the same cycle as the first thread. But people can’t do that, I predict, so it’s a lose-lose situation for everyone.
You can switch instantly out of combat.
Yeah, I just came back to the game after a long break and I don’t get it. Anet doesn’t want a whole bunch of people at the Fort Mariner WP? For…uh…what reason? There’s a whole bunch of people at the Mystic Dump, so why not disable that WP? Why disable any WP? Sigh.
Probable thread:
“OMG ANET my FPS drops to -420 whenever I go to Fort Marriner! SO MANY PEOPLE! TOO MANY PEOPLE! Pls fix ty ty <3”
I mean, would you be surprised by such a thread? I wouldn’t. But I agree, it seems odd to simply disable the WP and NOT remove any of the reasons why Fort Mariner is so heavily populated.
1) It’s good except in large-scale combat situations. It depends on your hardware, of course, and there are some settings you can tweak to have acceptable FPS in zergs, but you’ll definitely experience at least SOME stuttering when there’s more than about 30 players on screen. Besides that, the only crashes I’ve had were at Tequatl.
2) There is no endgame. The journey is the game. That has not and will not change. Better than Mastery Levels, though, right?
3) WvW can’t be balanced, but if you mean is it competitive, well, it depends on which server you’re on. For the most part, I think it’s still fun and active, though some worlds (cough BG cough) don’t seem to show up unless it’s a tournament.
4) No, but the upcoming expansion, Heart of Thorns, is supposed to add more difficult group PvE content. No one’s calling them “raids” yet, but hopefully that’s the kind of thing we’re getting (without the gear treadmill part of it).
5) It sells items that give you in-game bonuses, but they’re marginal at best. Then there are the items that provide massive convenience, like everlasting gathering tools and the Copper Salvage-O-Matic, but since you can pay for Gems with in-game Gold, it’s not outrageous.
6) The game is fun, it’s still aimed towards casuals, and you’d probably enjoy it most if you play it for a while but take breaks and don’t focus on it like a hardcore MMO. Heart of Thorns sounds like it’s bringing a lot of things the game needs, but there’s no release date or price yet (though it’s confirmed that you’ll have to buy it).
(edited by Corax.7381)
That sounds like it sucks, but you have some of the coolest Tier 3 Cultural Heavy Armor (behind Norn), so it’s not so bad. Really.
Dem Revenants are gonna be OP. I can already smell it.
But not those gloves… those arms look seriously messed up. :[
Asura, because academic work is all about stealing!
Also, they’re short and even harder to notice than the other races.
and GS afaik is the most mobile weapon in the warrior’s kitten nal
Did the forum really filter “a place of storage or a magazine containing arms and military equipment for land or naval service”? Lol.
I don’t understand these posts. A class in heavy armor and the highest amount of health SHOULD be doing less damage with a class in light armor low health.
I don’t really think anyone’s saying Warrior should be doing more DPS than an Elementalist. But, as the meta goes, we’re ranked higher than Mesmer and (far above) Necro in terms of damage dealing, and that’s why I think it’s in a good spot. A caution, though: You could argue Necro deserves to be low because it actually has the highest amount of health (with light armor) when the reason why it’s #8 is because of how ineffective conditions can be most of the time (in PvE). If its Specialization trades condi damage for more direct damage, who knows where it’ll place.
I know it’s easy to support the “live longer = deal less damage” philosophy, but how much “longer” is also has to be taken into account. Because of GW2’s combat, Warriors might survive… what, one extra hit from the boss? Maybe 2? We still have to dodge and we still have to pay attention to our surroundings, just like any other class. We’re not tanks who can sit there for 10 minutes (with a healer), laughing off all the damage the boss deals. However, that’s why I think the differences in the meta DPS ranking aren’t THAT substantial, at least for #3-7. We know Ele is clearly #1, Thief is clearly #2, and Necro is clearly #8. Everything inbetween can fluctuate.
Then the difficulty in dealing optimal DPS is considered. Engi has to swap kits and use a complex rotation, while remembering to survive, and Ranger has to deal with his sword’s “Time to die!” #1 autoattack. Warrior has an absurdly simple DPS rotation while also having the survivability you mentioned, PLUS group support. So we’re really not in that bad a position. Yes, we aren’t what we were pre-2014, and I think ANet can buff our damage a little bit and still keep us in this balanced spot, but we’ll see.
While HoT will only have one Spec for each Prof, and it looks like Engi’s getting the “Demolisher” – explosion-hammer + flying drones, which is awesome – they can add Specs with content updates or future expansions, so here’s what would be cool for Spec #2.
Demolitionist, rather?
I don’t really see a hammer-swinging madman as a “demolitionist”. A demolitionist is, to me, someone who uses strategically placed explosives to quickly and efficiently take down a structure. A demolisher destroys things with more force and… gusto. So I think Demolisher would fit better.
While things like the longbow arcing arrow 15%, and 100b+whirlwind 5% nerf is bad I wouldn’t say that puts the warrior in the sh_ _ter. According to DnT warrior is still at 5th place in dps and the difference between 3rd and 5th is trivial at best considering the amount of keys an engineer has to present to stay in 3rd and the sword aa management a ranger has to do with bosses like alpha in CoE.
Additionally, warriors have not lost their place in the meta regardless of the nerfs so I think it’s safe to say warriors at the moment are generally balanced.
However there are some things that should be changed like the time at which adrenaline starts to deplete after a fight, effectiveness of healing skills besides signet needs to be reworked, and as in the thread @Purple Miku.7032 pointed out the bug with berserker power not applying to burst skills because the adrenaline drains before the actual damage calculation.
After reading the list and catching up on things, I share the same sentiments.
Well the list of weapons that could be added to the warrior’s list is quite short. If we forget silliness like scepters and mainhand shields, the remaining options would be
Staff
Pistol
Focus
Torch
ShortbowOf those, I would think Pistol and Torch are the top contenders. Maybe a melee staff if the Revenant gets one, too. Hopefully they’ll add a bunch of more melee-like skins for the staffs.
Forgot Dagger, which could be a cool close-range knife-fighter type brawler. Heck, most daggers look more like shortswords anyways. I’d think Staff and Focus are right up there with Scepter in the silliness factor (Warriors using magic? HA!). The trailer shows Rytlock with a sorta-Staff, sorta-Mace weapon… but that’s just the art team trying to be cool. Colin even warned them not to put that in, because it’d be misleading, but they did it anyways.
While HoT will only have one Spec for each Prof, and it looks like Engi’s getting the “Demolisher” – explosion-hammer + flying drones, which is awesome – they can add Specs with content updates or future expansions, so here’s what would be cool for Spec #2.
Well, golems. Yeah. But not an AI golem, because no one likes Rangers (or their pets) and that’d be a horrible option for Engineer. Instead, PILOTED golems! Or some kind of charrified golem contraption that you can climb into and kill things with. Couldn’t make it too much tougher than a regular player, but instead of fast, spammable attacks, it could have powerful, slow attacks (which means it’d probably be used far more in PvE/WvW zergs than in PvP, but not every Spec has to be capable in every game mode). What would be hard would be coming up with a name, though… “Pilot” is too boring.
