While people may pretend to understand it, no one accepts it. An expansion is a must to fill the void caused by terribly executed living story idea.

Wow, a nice thread for players to announce their leaving. No trollers or flamers:) I like this.
Now I’m also gonna say goodbye:) Left the game a couple of months ago(logging in to see the daily challenges, doing 1 or 2 and then leave because I can’t force myself to do it isn’t what I call playing the game), but I was still active on the forums. So now I’m also gonna say goodbye to that. I will go on these forums once a month or so to see if anything has happened that I like, but that will be it:)
I wish all the players that still love to play this a game happy gaming hours! I had a blast for 1.5 years, I hope you will too, and maybe longer:)

And for the players asking for alternative MMO’s: I started FF14 2 months ago and I absolutely love it. The patch that comes out in 2 weeks introduces personal housing, and around nov we will get a new class. So if you are searching for alternatives MMO’s, that would be my recommendation:) Do with it as you please^^

Goodbye:)

I’m in the same shoes. Haven’t played it in months, I’ve recently logged in only to see what changed but that’s it. I do read the forums, though.

I wish I had more time to play other games, I may try ArcheAge, I’ll definitely try FF14 if you recommend it, but kitten , I’m starting my Master of Laws course in 2 weeks time – goodbye social ( & gaming ) life.:P

I’ll see you somewhere else sometime in the future I guess, Ill! Farewell!

Goodbye all to those that are leaving. I’ve never played with you guys but I am pretty sure you guys contributed into making gw2 the best MMORPG in the world until Anet decided to botch it.
Take good care and comeback once in a while. I won’t be joining you guys soon but of course future is uncertain ;(

Well, it’s definitely behind Lineage, Lineage 2, Guild Wars and WoW ( all of them at their very beginnings ). But yeah, it was one of the better ones I played in a long time.

This accusation gets tossed around a lot – that certain people who post such high praise for Anet’s decisions might be rewarded in some way. I haven’t reached a decision on this yet, so I thought the best approach is just to come right out and ask.

Will someone at ANet please tell the rest of us if you reward certain people for their forum comments? If you could just issue a flat out denial then that might diminish the number of accusations, especially right now.

If it were to be serious, I’d guess Vayne, but let’s face it – it would be below any level of decency for any company to do that.

If you think that corporations don’t use dirty tactics, then you are just a little naïve. And of course they won’t fess up unless they get caught.

It’s really not that unusual. TBH I’ve done very similar things in connection with political campaigns.

So you know why I put my last sentence precisely as my last sentence. Just to highlight the gravity of the “dirty tactics” if it were the case with this game.

Heh, better put my glasses on.

Am now actively looking for an alternative to GW2. Sad, really.

Archeage is a question mark, ESO is abysmal, Wildstar I won’t touch…and I’ll never go back to WoW.

Anyone have any suggestions?

ArcheAge feels like Lineage 2 and Guild Wars 1 ( not yet dumbed down like GW2, billions of builds ), but I don’t think its fighting mechanics will be liked. Wouldn’t have hopes for it, tbh, nevertheless I’m trying it out when it comes out next week – just like anyone who plays MMOs I guess.
Otherwise, the biggest and most anticipated MMO in years is most likely Black Desert Online, but it’s going to be out next year. Plus, Bless looks just epic.

Hyped for incoming VIP status in Gem Store!

Corpus Christi.2057

Well, the reason they won’t ( I hope ) and can’t ( it’s obvious ) introduce a VIP status that grants you a precursor after a year of “subscritpion” is because it would become a p2w game. In games like this where itemisation and, generally speaking, looks are the endgame content ( if you think that these few dungeons/fractals, pathetic and neglected PvP and WvW are endgame content, then, well… won’t say anything so as not to get reported by the White Knights ), this is precisely what the definition of “pay to win” is.

ANet, the reason you have no player retention

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Corpus Christi.2057

Let’s be blunt: while the Living Story idea was great on paper and quite an innovative approach, its execution and translation from paper to reality made it arguably one of the worst aspects of the game.

I did admire it at first, ANet, but I think it’s high time you, just like the vast majority of playerbase and magazines/websites/blogs did, realise that a traditional expansion pack is a must if you want to fill the void that the LS created and retain the remainder of the “old players” as well as invite some new ones.

I think the big issue is that for a lot of veteran players, they don’t want the level-gated nonsense. They want to have everything available to them on alternate characters so that they can just go out and explore.

I don’t think that’s a wrong sentiment to have.

“The point, supposedly, is to make it easier for new players. I’m not sure withholding the game’s most tactical combat options is the best way to do so—especially when the increasing number of account bound systems would suggest a desire to encourage existing players to create alternate characters.”

Complaints from the community are one thing. Bad reviews from large commercial entities can be a death sentence for getting new players interested.

I’m reading more and more negatives from the magazines/websites/blogs that once reviewed the game positively at its premiere.

What if Anet is right(new leveling system)

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Corpus Christi.2057

Corpus Christi.2057

If anyone didn’t know, a huge percentage of GW2 players never made to level80, they barely played a few hours.

The problem is not typical to just GW2, but many MMO’s face the same problem. It seemed the first few hours is what decided for new players if they want to continue playing the game.

Anet said they did extensive testing about the new system. I presume they found that with the new system, they are more able to retain players.

What if Anet actually did the right thing? Maybe with the new system, they were able to increase their retention rate by 10-15%? So maybe pushing back skills/utilities actually helps new players to continue playing because they aren’t overwhelmed by so many information. And it makes leveling more rewarding so they actually continue playing instead of quitting.

I personally hate the change. I think if they want to make the changes, they should consider giving veterans the option to be not included in to.

That being said, I think Anet also need to consider the number of vets that will actually quit or not level new characters because they made the change.

That’s most likely the most ridiculous argument/opinion regarding the new system I’ve read.

i have been reading all these thread complan about how suck it is to lvl a alt except no one mentioned about anet increased exp u get from doing low lvl events that makes u lvl much faster now but this is not what i m gonna talking about.
if u truely gonna quit gw2 fine just do it,u can just enjoy real life and all, but if u want play another mmo stuff.i dont think u have much choice there.look how ESO and Wild Star works on market.they are dead already,FF14 probably have a descent player base but thats more like a game for ur son and daughter.and WoW?thats for ur old man. so u probably now downloading archeage?fine give a shot for like a month I m sure U will be back then. thats a game sucks than ESO.
but I do hope we have a better choice.
saddly we dont.

Haven’t you heard? ArcheAge premieres in 4 days time. It totally feels like Lineage 2 and GuildWars 1 times. Our guild ( de facto, what’s left of it in GW2 ) will definitely check it out. Otherwise, we will be enjoying our lives until an expansion comes out or GW3 is announced. GW2’s becoming a total ruin ( my personal opinion, you may disagree with it ), completely dumbed down to a level of 10-year-olds. I do still hope, however, that this will change. Hope’s the last thing to die, right?

1. They tested it in China. Works great for them.
2. Do NOT place your knowledge base/experience on others in shoddy “Everyone Knows” science.
3. ANet has more metrics and more information than you ever will about the over-all feeling of the start of the early game.
4. I am sorry you don’t like this change/idea but its already coming, adapt or move on is all I can tell ya.

Any single one of those points can be easily destroyed by the fact ANet hasn’t actually improved anything, but with each and every single change they make, more and more players are leaving the game. Evidence? See the financial reports.

Seriously, though. All the recent changes, dumbing down process and so on make me feel like ANet realised they wouldn’t bother satisfying veteran players but rather invite newcomers so they could earn something and sustain the life of the game.

The gameplay is nice but you’ll get bored of it after a while.

The community is toxic because the developers don’t update the game, and they only release “feature packs” which not only do not solve the many bugs (some are even 2 year old) but also don’t add important features.

This game has nowhere near the content other games have received in a 2 year timespan. So enjoy it while you can, but as soon as you reach the endgame, there won’t be much to do.

Best regards!

Exactly, anyone defending those changes based on “there are more people who can’t than those who can, hence simplification”, can’t possibly be serious. I mean, honestly, have our society become so kittened since the times of Lineage 1 and Lineage 2 that we have to introduce such changes? I mean, honestly, the highest grossing product of NCSoft ( Lineage ) is 10 x more difficult than this and has more people playing it. So it can’t possibly be a reason “to cater the masses”.
Meh… No time to waste on it anymore… GW3, please, come ASAP and be more like GW1.

Why I left GW2

Corpus Christi.2057

These blasted threads. Every time I see a variant on “why I left GW2?” I mentally answer "quite frankly my dear I don’t give a kitten "

I can see why you think that, but they keep popping up more and more. That’s a serious indication this game is losing a lot of players. People that actually care enough about the game and go to the forums to post things. Now they even care enough that they are posting that they are leaving.
It isn’t good advertising for new players either. Usually, when I’m going to play a new MMO, I first check a couple of things, including their forums. If you look in here, those potentional new players see alot of players complaining(whether the complaints are well argumented or just QQ doens’t matter in this case), and they see lots of players leaving. That’s bad publicity for this game. It’s not like no new player will come, but I’m almost certain a couple of players who wheren’t convinced to buy and play this game or not, didn’t do it after all because of what they saw on the forums.

So indeed, it’s easy to say I don’t give a kitten, I don’t think alot of us do(you could put it in another way though:p), but it’s something that really needs to be taken seriously.

At least, in my opinion that is…..

You mean like three a week? It was just as bad a couple of years ago. That’s not more and more. I’ve had more people who left come back to the game in the last week than there have been leaving posts on these forums and that’s just one little guild.

My guild had 167 members, only 21 are left. 8 came back and now 7 are gone. Out of those 28 now, 13 started playing AA and have gone inactive in GW2. Quite the opposite to you. And honestly, I don’t think even a major update of the expansion-pack size would bring even 20 people back. It’s a missed opportunity, I think. But who knows, if GW3 comes out, we will all be back again! ( I hope! )

I THINK, that if gw3 folows some gw1 rules instead of 2, a lot more people would come back yes. At least, thats what everyone around me says. If gw3 is going to be a polished gw2 with the same ‘business plan’ etc., they wont return.

Pretty much what all my friends say, lol. GW1 in GW2 skin would be the best MMO evah.

9th Profession Theme ideas?

in Guild Wars 2 Discussion

Posted by: Corpus Christi.2057

Corpus Christi.2057

I know this will probably never happen but what theme if there were to ever be a 9th profession would you like to see? (Maybe in the next 2-3 years?) I personally would like to see a Chronomancer Magic/Ranged and Melee/Bruiser focused less on flat DPS and more on CC and control of the battle field. I just think of really strange weapons to use like Duo-Shield and have access to Pistols, Torches, Staves, Foci, Scepters, Mace, and Horns. I still don’t like the fact that there is such a small skill pool to choose from and so I personally wish GW2 Devs. would add skills and or add professions. Honestly it’s been like 2 years now there have been the same skills and classes so i’m pretty sure the current “meta” is is what is. The professions are what they are and at this point they aren’t going to change. I would just leave them where they are and just add more. Do what LoL does, they add a champ every couple months and then slowly but surely nerf/buff them. I don’t know and im not going to pretend like i know the answer. I stopped playing like 6 months ago and enjoyed the game when i played but slowly i just kind of felt the repeated trends. Who knows maybe i missed the game changing stuff. But from my POV you can add all the content in game as you want but if you don’t add new ways for me to physically play the game diffrently it means nothing. Just my feelings on the matter because I really want to get into this game. Oh well, back too on topic what theme would you like to see on a new Profession?

Well, a 9th class is a must for this game if it is to survive for another one or two years.

With that in mind, definitely a lacking, 3rd heavy armour class. People are right about something as lancer or the equivalent to Diablo III’s new class from the expansion.

Would be interesting to see it!!!

The game is declining and will continue to do so.

So far we don’t have too much in the way of evidence (beyond the anecdotal) for this. I guess based on the opinions voiced on the forums, personally not sure how reliable it is (although this discussion has been had more than once).

I’m used to forums being all armchair designers, but now they’re all armchair buisness development specialists too?

Jip. We’re master designers, developers, marketing gurus, captains of industries and world level intelligences :P

Secondly, while pve is getting a story, the rest of the game is practically still where it was two years ago. The dungeon system needs updating (too many currencies, not very rewarding), karma needs a new purpose, and spvp needs a new mode.

WvW has at least gotten some map updates, orb mechanic brought back in a new way, seasons, updated achieves and rewards, a new (though fail) map, but the core issue of points and organizing (albeit getting COLORS now, but no improved functionality) still remains.

Well I will agree that some parts of the game have been somewhat neglected. Although in the case of WvW the solution is a bit more tricky, adding more maps would only disadvantage smaller servers who barely have the player base to fight WvW on four fronts. Adding more things to capture to present maps provides the same issue of disadvantaging smaller servers.
The fix some of the issues with WvW isn’t as simply has adding a new map or tweaking a few things here and there.

Dungeons however could do with a few more tweaks (no more stacking! no more stacking!).

We have evidence, you just fail to acknowledge it.

Just google financial reports for NCSoft company for 2013 and 2014. You will see that the revenue of GW2 in the West ( EU + NA ) is steadily declining. There was even a period when the revenue for EU fell for over 40%.

Stop denying the fact, people, that GW2 indeed has got some major trouble in the EU and NA.

China is a separate thing.

Write here revenues of all quarters since GW2 released and THEN you might have the case, or not.

China is completely separate thing. But what it DOES is ADDING unknown amount of money to reported revenues.

The burden of proof rests on the disproving party, i.e. you.

I won’t be digging it up for people who willingly deny something that has been posted on these forums on numerous occasions, which is the very reason why the majority writes what the person above stated, i.e. that the game has troubles.

PS As I am a kind person, I decided to google something for you. As you can see, the decline of GW2 is stronger in EU than it is in NA. http://www.gamesindustry.biz/articles/2014-02-14-guild-wars-2-in-steep-decline-in-weak-q4-for-ncsoft

That entire article doesn’t revolve around GW2. EU sales for NCSOFT as a whole was down. Sure the bulk of that was due to GW2 moving to it’s “subscription-free model” and the decline was greater percentage wise in the EU than NA but that’s more to do with NCSOFT’s EU’s reported income being just GW and GW2 for that quarter. They’ve licensed both AION and Lineage 2 in EU to third parties long before then and their income is booked as royalties. In NA, NCSOFT still runs AION and Lineage 2 themselves so GW2 isn’t as big of a piece of pie as it is in the EU.

Of course it doesn’t, it is clearly stated in the article itself.

If the Living Story is all they can actually work into and where majority of the resources are going to, then, oh Lord…

GW2 income in millions of South Korean Won.

3Q12 – 45,841
4Q12 – 119,013
1Q13 – 36,382
2Q13 – 28,899
3Q13 – 24,481
4Q13 – 33,555
1Q14 – 25,142
2Q14 – 22,214

Note that changes in income may not be as bad if converted to USD. The exchange rate to KrW has fluctuated 15.9% during that time.

Are the earnings going down? Yes.

Is it at a point that they are terrible? No. Still #3 at NCSOFT after Lineage and WildStar.

Do we have any idea how much income ANet is getting from China for GW2? No.

Am I surprised this is hitting the fan 3+ weeks since those numbers came out and first talked about here? Yep.

If this game was a subscription based game then the $20.96 – $22.21 million USD for 2Q14 would be equivalent to 465,000 to 493,000 monthly subscribers at $15 a month which is not shabby with the exception of comparing it to WoW. And it won’t have the numbers of a true F2P because of the up front cost, even in China where B2P was unheard of until GW2.

In 2013 the game earned roughly $113 million USD. If it was a subscription based game that would put us at #5 between SWTOR and LOTRO. That’s not shabby at all.

Thank you for posting these numbers.

I hope that the guy who asked for them above is satisfied with them.

Precisely, the revenue is on a positive scale because of the China release. Otherwise, as we could see from various data published by ANet prior to release, the revenue was going dramatically down in the EU and NA. That’s a fact.

China lives on its own, i.e. what we had here 2 years ago – which was a bliss. Now, it’s quite on the opposite, but we will see. If the game “develops” the way it does atm, I don’t think it would be profitable by the end of the next year. I’m just speculating, the time will tell.

Similarities between GW2 and GW1

I hope you realize that Eye of the North was supposed to be the prequel to GW2. Primordus was introduced to show what you would be doing in GW2 = hunting the Elder Dragons. That was not stealing, it was paving the way as an introduction to GW2. Get your facts straight.

Actually, the sole reason why it all stopped on EoTN and GW2 came out is because it turned out that there were so many changes that ANet wanted to introduce ( including new graphic design ) that they just decided to go on with a sequel.

So many people I talk to are convinced the 350+ people over at Anet are just screwing around and lazy. Others tell me it takes that many people to do the Living Story (which seems a unbelievable considering how little content is actually produced) However, I’ve only ever heard the idea that they are actually working on an expansion online. The arguments I’ve seen for it all sound too familiar and until Anet specifically says they are working on an expansion I will not believe it, give them hype, or get too passionate about this game.

It’s a good game. It is a solid B to C player in my “what to play” list but I only spend money on games I’m real passionate about. GW2 has just fallen out of that bracket for me.

If the world doesn’t grow neither does my passion for the game.

Exactly my hopes. I don’t see how all those 350 would be working through those 2 years and produce just what we got so far. That would be unthinkable, to say the least ( and stay polite ). Expansion is a must in the near future.

almost every single post here is about how no 1 likes Anet,
you payed once! and played for 2 years and all you do is complain, you dont have rights to complain!
new pvp rewards
class balance (so u wont cry that warrior is op)
more “traits” for wvw
commander color, not a big change but can have a big effect if used right
megaserver maybe this time it will be right, if no the heck so ull miss tequatl or just need to be ready 20 min ahead
u dont get kicked from dungeon wen the leader leaves
a small but nice improvment for crafting + new back pieces
fresh start, eaither a new member or a 2 years members starts a new class and will have easier life lvling
finishers and minis im not fan of that but i know alot of people who are
new collection achivment, more ap more loot, even if u dont get profit for it, its an extra goal.
Anet i paid once for the game but you keep adding staff every now and then, even if its a mere dagger or gs skin
Thank you! 2 years and im still enjoying

We “don’t have rights to complain”? Yet another piece of evidence which suggests that the die-hard defenders ( known here on the forums as “White Knights” ) are worse than haters.

Seriously, “no right to complain”? Just wow.

Don’t bother asking for a worthy end game content for GW2. Why?

1) GW2 does not seem to grasp the concept

2) The White Knights, who, no matter what, will always blindfoldedly say everything is fine

Give it a lil bit more time, otherwise AA starts in a weeks time, and two other games start early next year. It’s not like you are locked into something you honestly dislike or lost faith in.

Cheer up.

Maybe we should be happy everything they have described so far is completely trivial. After the April 15th destruction of the trait system I am not sure ANET is capable of making a change for the better. Nothing they have presented for “new” characters comes close to making me want to create a new character. I love making alts and I tried several since the trait change. When they got to 80 they didn’t have any traits except for ones obtained by accident. I bought the ones I wanted and those characters will never try alternate builds until if ever the trait system changes.

Let the GW1 team step in and this game’s going to be bonkers! /dreams

I hope that they are working ( “secretly” ) on a huge permanent addition this game desperately needs, i.e. a gigantic expansion/campaign ( in the style of old GW1 additions ), which would mean 10x more content that we got throughout 2 years of GW2’s existence.

The most ironic thing is that, while ANet highlights on any occasion that their focus has been and will be living story, it is most likely the worst part of this game – dialogues, characters, storyline are so cheap and cheesy, and immature that “it’s like having a dagger in my eye”.
